“The box is demanding things, and it gets more and more voracious…” Paramount+ has debuted a quick 2-minute making of featurette for the new horror creation called Vicious, the latest from filmmaker Bryan Bertino, creator of The Strangers franchise and director of a few other indie horror films as well. Vicious recently premiered at Fantastic Fest 2025 and will be streaming on Paramount+ to watch soon in October – starting tomorrow if anyone is ready to dive in. A woman spends the night fighting for her own existence as she slips down a rabbit hole contained inside a gift from a late-night visitor – some kind of mysteriously evil box. It comes with simple instructions if she wants to live – place three things inside: something you need, something you hate, and something you love. Starring Dakota Fanning as Polly and a creepy Kathryn Hunter, along with Mary McCormack, Rachel Blanchard, Devyn Nekoda, Klea Scott, and Emily Mitchell. This looks quite good, I dig the concept, looks freaky. It’s weird they’re not letting this play in theaters & leaving it to debut streaming? Either way – I’m definitely planning to watch the film once it’s out.

Here’s the behind-the-scenes promo for Bryan Bertino’s horror thriller Vicious, direct from YouTube:

You can watch the full official trailer for Bryan Bertino’s Vicious horror film right here for more footage.

When Polly (Dakota Fanning) receives a mysterious Box from an unexpected late-night visitor (Kathryn Hunter), it comes with a simple instruction: place three things inside: something you need, something you hate, and something you love. What begins as a strange ritual quickly unravels into a waking nightmare. Trapped in a terrifying world where reality bends and memory betrays, Polly must navigate a series of impossible choices. As time slips away, she’s forced to confront the darkness not just around her, but also within her—before it consumes everything and everyone she’s ever known. Vicious is written and directed by acclaimed American genre filmmaker Bryan Bertino, creator of The Strangers franchise, and a director of the films Mockingbird, The Monster, and The Dark and the Wicked previously. It’s produced by Richard Suckle. This is premiering at Fantastic Fest 2025 this month. Paramount will then debut Bertino’s Vicious movie streaming on Paramount+ starting October 10th, 2025 during the spooky season. Who’s intrigued?

Kylie Jenner is officially stepping into the world of acting with her first major film role. The beauty mogul and reality TV star has joined the cast of The Moment, an upcoming A24 film based on an original idea by pop singer Charli XCX. Kylie confirmed the news on October 9 by reposting a Deadline article via Instagram Stories, along with a behind-the-scenes photo with Charli, adorned with green heart emojis — a nod to Charli’s Brat aesthetic.

Directed by Aidan Zamiri and co-written by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes, The Moment is set to release in 2026 and promises a bold, pop-centric narrative. The story follows a rising pop star navigating the pressures of fame and the demands of preparing for her first arena tour — a fitting theme given Kylie’s own experience with public life and the entertainment industry.

This marks Kylie Jenner’s first scripted acting role outside of her reality TV fame in Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Kardashians. Though she had a brief cameo as herself in the 2018 heist-comedy Ocean’s 8, The Moment is her first significant acting venture.

Kylie joins a star-studded ensemble cast including Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, and Charli XCX herself. The supporting cast features Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Hailey Benton Gates, Trew Mullen, and Shygirl, among others. A.G. Cook, Charli’s longtime collaborator, will be working on the film’s music.

Produced by Charli XCX’s Studio365 and 2AM’s David Hinojosa, with executive producers Brandon Creed, Mikey Schwartz-Wright, and Zach Nutman, The Moment is already generating buzz for its unique blend of music, fashion, and fame.

Charli announced the film with a teaser video set to her 2013 hit I Love It (with Icona Pop), captioned: “Based on an original idea by Charli XCX. The Moment. Coming 2026.”

“Your guilt must fall below the 92% threshold or you will be executed in precisely 90 minutes.” Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for a sci-fi movie called Mercy, one of many upcoming artificial intelligence thrillers being made by Hollywood. This one is about an “A.I. Judge”, very similar in many ways to Minority Report but with a different spin on our tech future. Mercy (not to be confused with Just Mercy from a few years ago) is directed by sci-fi / Screenlife filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, his latest feature directed for Hollywood since making Profile in 2018. 90 minutes to prove your innocence or face execution. Chris Pratt & Rebecca Ferguson star in this cautionary tech tale. In the near future, a detective stands on trial accused of murdering his wife. He now has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to the advanced A.I. Judge he once championed, before it determines his fate. Starring Chris Pratt, with Rebecca Ferguson as A.I. Judge Maddox, Kali Reis, Annabelle Wallis, Chris Sullivan, and Kylie Rogers. Yep it looks like a January movie! Opens in IMAX and 3D at the end of January 2026 if anyone wants to find out if he’s guilty or not?

Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Timur Bekmambetov’s sci-fi movie Mercy, from YouTube:

“The future of criminal justice is Artificial Intelligence.” In the near future, a detective (Chris Pratt) stands on trial accused of murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to the advanced Artificial Intelligence Judge (Rebecca Ferguson) he once championed, before it determines his fate once and for all and sends him to execution. Mercy is directed by visionary Kazakh-Russian producer / filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, director of The Arena, Night Watch & Day Watch, Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Ben-Hur, Yolki 5, Profile, V2 Escape from Hell, plus a producer on movies including “Screenlife” films like Searching, Profile, LifeHack, War of the Worlds. The screenplay is by Marco van Belle. Produced by Charles Roven, Robert Amidon, Timur Bekmambetov, & Majd Nassif. Lionsgate debuts Bekmambetov’s Mercy movie in theaters nationwide (including in 3D) starting on January 23rd, 2026 next year. Guilty?

Kaley Cuoco Thriller ‘Vanished’ Coming to MGM+

by jummy84 October 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Kaley Cuoco’s next TV series has found a U.S. home.

Cable and streaming outlet MGM+ has picked up rights to Vanished, a four-episode thriller starring Cuoco (The Flight Attendant, The Big Bang Theory) and Sam Claflin (Peaky Blinders). MGM+ has also landed rights to the show, produced by AGC Television, in Spain, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands and Latin America; it will stream on Prime Video in other parts of the world (both are owned by Amazon).

The series is set to premiere in February 2026 on MGM+.

“We are thrilled to make MGM+ the home for Vanished in the U.S.,” said MGM+ head Michael Wright said in a statement. “This exciting and surprising mystery thriller features an exceptional cast, led by Kaley Cuoco and Sam Claflin, and unfolds against the stunning, cinematic backdrop of France. Vanished is a perfect fit with the MGM+ brand that showcases classic Hollywood storytelling for a modern audience.”

AGC Television launched sales of the project at Series Mania earlier this year. Vanished, created by David Hilton and Preston Thompson and written by Thompson, follows a couple’s trip to France that takes a dark turn. “With the sudden disappearance of her boyfriend Tom (Claflin) aboard a train to the south of France, Alice (Cuoco) is plunged into a web of intrigue and danger, uncovering shocking secrets about the man she thought she knew,” the logline reads. Karin Viard, Matthias Schweighöfer, Simon Abkarian and Dar Zuzovsky also star.

Cuoco’s most recent live-action series was Peacock’s Based on a True Story; she also stars in and executive produces HBO Max’s animated show Harley Quinn.

The executive producers of Vanished are James Clayton of Slow Burn Entertainment, David Kosse of Rockwood Pictures, director Barnaby Thompson (via Fragile Films), Preston Thompson, Cuoco and AGC’s Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz and Miguel A. Palos Jr.

“We’ll never win this war. Their lives depend on this sh&!” Roadside Attractions + Saban Films revealed an official trailer for a crime thriller titled King Ivory, currently scheduled for release starting in November. Set for a wide release in theaters – yet another new movie about fentanyl and the opioid drug crisis. This acutally premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival last year in the “Orizzonti Extra” section, and it also played at Rotterdam and the Newport Beach Film Festival earlier this year. Based upon extensive research with law enforcement, gangs, inmates, migrants, addicts – an exposé on fentanyl trafficking, and its effect on all walks of life. Set in Tulsa, it’s about a cop whose son becomes addicted, sending him deep into the underbelly of the drug world. King Ivory features an ensemble including James Badge Dale, Ben Foster, Michael Mando, Rory Cochrane, Ritchie Coster, George Carroll, Sam Quartin, newcomer Jasper Jones, Academy Award-nominee Graham Greene, and Academy Award-winner Melissa Leo. Despite all the hype, this looks like another generic, cliche action thriller with nothing new that we haven’t seen before.

Here’s the main official trailer (+ poster) for John Swab’s crime thriller King Ivory, direct from YouTube:

King Ivory Trailer

King Ivory Poster

Based upon extensive research with law enforcement, gangs, inmates, migrants, and addicts, all walks of life intersect in this fentanyl exposé. With potency 100 times that of heroin and nearly undetectable at the border, fentanyl has flooded the market, triggering a tidal wave of overdoses, crime, and addiction. Work hits too close to home for Tulsa drug cop, Layne West, when his son, Jack, also becomes an addict. In conjunction with his partner, Ty, and FBI counterpart, Beatty, West makes it his mission to take down those responsible, including the Mexican cartel’s local shot-caller, Ramón Garza, Indian Brotherhood War Chief, Holt Lightfeather, who controls state-wide trafficking from inside the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at McAlester a.k.a. “Big Mac,” and the local Irish Mob family outfit, led by George “Smiley” Greene, along with his mother, Ginger, and uncle, Mickey. As Holt educates West: “The cartels want your kids, the next generation, who want what is new, and fentanyl is new.” King Ivory is written and directed by American filmmaker John Swab, director of the movies Let Me Make You a Martyr, Run with the Hunted, Body Brokers, Ida Red, Candy Land, Little Dixie, One Day as a Lion, Lone Gone Heroes previously. Produced by Jeremy M. Rosen. This initially premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival last year. Roadside + Saban will debut Swab’s King Ivory movie in theaters nationwide starting November 14th, 2025 this fall. Any good?

Bugonia (2025): Yorgos Lanthimos And Emma Stone Reunite For A Genre-Bending Sci-Fi Thriller | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Focus Features’ Bugonia arrives in theaters on October 31, 2025, bringing together an extraordinary creative team led by director Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Favourite) and Academy Award® winner Emma Stone. The film also stars Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone, in a screenplay penned by Will Tracy (The Menu).

According to the official production notes, Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap a powerful corporate CEO, convinced she is an alien plotting humanity’s destruction. What begins as an unhinged act of paranoia evolves into a darkly comedic, unsettling examination of control, fear, and belief in a world where truth feels increasingly elusive.

Produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko, Bugonia unites some of contemporary cinema’s boldest storytellers. Lanthimos’ trademark surrealism and Tracy’s razor-sharp writing promise a film that defies conventional boundaries, blending tension with absurdist humor and speculative mystery.

While plot specifics remain closely guarded, Bugonia continues Lanthimos’ exploration of human behavior through extreme scenarios. The collaboration with Focus Features signals another ambitious theatrical release designed for audiences seeking smart, unconventional storytelling.

Nora Arnezeder in Thriller ‘Hell in Paradise’ Trailer Set in the Maldives

“Stay away from these people…” Yes! They seem very dangerous! EuropaCorp has revealed the first official French trailer for a film titled Hell in Paradise, a thriller from filmmaker Leïla Sy, directed of the Street Flow movies and Yo Mama previously. It’s shot mainly in English (they speak Dhivehi in Maldives), hence why we’re featuring this first trailer. The film is set for a release in French cinemas starting in November – but no idea on a US date. Nina from Marseilles decides to take a fancy hotel job in the Maldives (a beautiful island nation in the Indian Ocean), but her paradise turns nightmarish after an incident. Falsely accused, she must evade traps to escape her unjust life sentence. Nina is thrown right into a horrible spiral of lies and manipulation and must outwit them all to escape this paradise turned hell… Starring Nora Arnezeder as Nina, as well as Alyy Khan, Shubham Saraf, Ranjit Krishnamma, Sartaj Garewal, Louka Meliava, Joséphine de la Baume, and Maria Bello. Another frightening story about how powerful people try to pass on their crimes to others without any power. Sad and upsetting – but I hope she will fight back and win.

Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Leïla Sy’s thriller Hell in Paradise, direct from YouTube:

Hoping for a better life, Nina (starring Nora Arnezeder) leaves Marseille for a job as a receptionist in a luxury hotel in the Indian Ocean in the Maldives. But when tragedy strikes the hotel, Nina is thrown into a nightmarish spiral of lies and manipulation. Wrongly accused and facing life in prison, she must fight and outwit the traps to escape this paradise turned hell… Hell in Paradise is directed by the French-Senegalese filmmaker Leïla Sy, director of the movies Street Flow 1 & 2 and Yo Mama previously, plus tons of other music videos as well. The screenplay is written by Karine Silla. Produced by Virginie Besson-Silla. Made by Luc Besson’s company EuropaCorp. This hasn’t premiered at any film festivals or anywhere else, as far as we know. EuropaCorp will debut Leïla Sy’s Hell in Paradise film in French cinemas starting November 26th, 2025 this fall. No US release date is set yet – stay tuned for more updates. Looking good? Who’s interested?

“Lies!” “Truth!” “What’s the difference…?” Scary! Don’t skip this one. Focus Features has unveiled a second trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’ funky new film titled Bugonia, a sort of sci-fi conspiracy thriller set for release at the end of October. The film premiered at the 2025 Venice & Telluride Film Festivals to mostly positive reviews (here’s mine) – many are quoted in this trailer below. This is Yorgos’ next enticing follow-up to Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness, re-teaming with Emma and Jesse. Two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major pharmaceutical company, convinced that she is really an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. Maybe she actually is? What will happen if they find out? This is a remake of the Korean film titled Save the Green Planet!, which not many people have seen yet. The cast in Bugonia includes Emma Stone as Michelle, CEO of a pharma corporation, plus Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. I’m a fan of this one! It’s not the best of the year, but it’s just the right dose of kooky & shocking & entertaining – as only Yorgos can pull off. Emma Stone phone home. 👽

Here’s the second & final trailer (+ poster) for Yorgos Lanthimos’ sci-fi thriller Bugonia, from YouTube:

Bugonia is directed by the acclaimed, award-winning Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, director of My Best Friend, Kinetta, Dogtooth, Alps, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness, plus other shorts and music videos. The screenplay is written by Will Tracy. Based on the original 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!. Produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee, & Jerry Kyoungboum Ko. The film already premiered at all the fall festivals including Venice, Telluride, London. Eran Riklis on His Thriller Series Co-Penned by “Fauda'”s Moshe Zonder

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Prominent Israeli filmmaker Eran Riklis, known for his Middle-East set humanistic films “Lemon Tree,” “The Syrian Bride” and most recently “Reading Lolita in Tehran” feels angry and frustrated over the political leadership in Israel that has led nearly 4,000 entertainment industry names to boycott Israeli film institutions, viewed as “complicit in war crimes” in Gaza.

Riklis has been selected for the Tallinn’s TV Beats, Co-Financing Market (Nov. 7-8) with his upcoming TV drama “The Abduction of Yossele Schumacher,” commissioned by Israel commercial channel Keshet 12.

The filmmaker is eager to find European partners in Tallinn for his six-part drama thriller. But he alsohopes that anti-Israel sentiments from some parts of the global industry won’t impact his dream to bring to the screen yet another work building bridges between people.

“Israel is not in the best [political] position and I hope that nothing political will stand between me and making the series,” he tells Variety in a video call from his home in Tel-Aviv. Similarly, Riklis feels sorry for the controversy over Israel’s Oscar entry “The Sea” featuring a young Palestinian boy, risking his life to go to the beach in Tel Aviv, and subsequent threat from Israel’s culture minister Miki Zohar to axe funding to the Israeli Film Academy.

“I mentored ‘The Sea’s’ director Shai Carmeli Pollak when he attended the Sam Spiegel International Script Lab with the project. I loved the story and gave Shai confidence to direct it. I then saw the film at the Jerusalem Film Festival and cried for an hour and a half. It’s a simple yet complex story and absolutely beautiful.

The fact that the Israeli Film Academy voted for it [as Oscar entry] was a surprise, but it’s the best film that represents Israel right now. It’s good to join the [Oscar] race with this kind of story,” notes the filmmaker, a firm believer that art transcends political boundaries and that storytelling can open people’s hearts and minds.

“As a filmmaker, I want to remain optimistic,” says Riklis who was a 19-year old Israeli soldier during the Yom Kippur War in 1973 and lost many close friends. “I faced the Egyptian army for months. It was a horrible war. But then, who would have imagined that a few years later, in 1979, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat would sign a peace agreement [the Camp David Accords] with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, who had very right-wing views. So I always try to remember these events,” insists Riklis. “There are always people trying to make changes and succeeding; we need to have hope.”

Thriller series based on true events

After “Reading Lolita in Tehran” which tackled women resisting the oppressive clerical regime in Iran, Ricklis’ next project, the TV show “The Abduction of Yossele Schumacher,” looks at a different religious extremism, closer to home for the filmmaker.

The story is based on the true case of the abduction in Israel of a seven-year-old Jewish boy, Yossele Schumacher, by his ultra-Orthodox grandfather in the early 1960s, to prevent him from being raised as a secular Jew by his parents. Following an intensive international search led by Israel’s secret services Mossad for nearly two years, the boy was eventually found in the U.S. and returned to his parents. According to the logline, the abduction “leads three women to clash over his fate and faith and to a fierce conflict between the Israeli Mossad and the impenetrable web of the orthodox community.”

Riklis, who was only six-to-seven years-old at the time of the events, has a vivid memory of the case that became a cause célèbre, dividing the Israeli society. “Overnight, from a small family dispute, the story became huge, opposing the secular and ultra-Orthodox population in Israel. Our Prime Minister at the time Ben Gurion was afraid the case would lead to a civil war, so he asked Mossad to intervene,” Riklis explains, before adding: “With no documentary made about the case, the Yossele Schumacher story felt like an old memory being lost, until three years and a half ago, when I spoke to someone who mentioned it. I contacted Yossele, found him and told him about my idea to bring his story to television. He said “yes and yes again. I’ve just been waiting for this to happen!”

Riklis then contacted seasoned screenwriter Moshe Zonder, known for “Fauda,” Apple TV+ spy thriller “Tehran” and the recent Series Mania winning show “The German.” The two had collaborated earlier on Riklis’ local hit “Zohat” (1993) and “Vulcan Junction” (1999). “I felt Moshe would be the perfect co-creator and co-writer of the series. He has a great skill in balancing drama and thriller, so I was thrilled when he agreed to board the project,” Riklis says.

Digging deeper into the plot and storyline, the filmmaker says “the main dramatic thread will be the search for the kid, but the series will contain three dramatic layers. Firstly, the core of the story will be about three equally flawed women. Madeleine Feraille, Yossele’s abductor, a former French resistance fighter who converted to Judaism after WWII. Then the boy’s mother, Ida Schumacher, and the Mossad agent Judith Avrahami. For various reasons, the three women are grieving a child. “That’s the emotional core of the series,” says Riklis.

The second layer will be the thriller, with the Mossad search for the boy between Israel, Italy, Germany, France, England and the U.S.. “You will be on the edge of your seat, like with a Liam Neeson thriller,” promises the filmmaker. Then the third element will be the complex socio-political context, “with themes about oppression, liberalism, fate versus religion, the Rule of Law vs the Rule of God, issues that are as topical today as 60 years ago.”

“Ultimately, it’s about pain, love, parenthood, loss, faith, fanaticism and about secrets and lies on so many levels,” adds the filmmaker who feels the project has “all the right ingredients to turn into exciting and profound must-see television for everyone.”

The project, with an estimated budget of around €1.5 million ($1.7 million) per episode, is being produced by Riklis’ own shingle Eran Riklis Production and Moshe Edery of United King Films, one of Israel’s most-established production and distribution outfits and a long-time partner to Riklis. Israel’s commercial channel Keshet 12, is on board.

“At Keshet, we are passionate about telling Israeli stories that reflect our unique culture while resonating with audiences everywhere,” says Keshet 12 head of drama and comedy Karni Ziv. “With Eran Riklis at the helm, this project promises to be a moving family drama with a strong, suspenseful edge, and we are excited about its potential to connect with viewers both in Israel and beyond.”

As one of eight projects selected for Tallinn’s TV Beats Co-Financing Market, part of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival’s Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, the series will vie for the coveted Council of Europe Series Co-Production Development Award worth €50,000 ($58,700).

“At Tallinn, I hope to find co-producers who love the project. I’m particularly looking for partners from traditional sources of financing – public funders, broadcasters, and also streamers,” says Riklis who hopes to go into production in November 2026.
