Fans around the world have been concerned about the health of legendary Indian actor Dharmendra, who has now reportedly been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Several Bollywood stars, including Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Govinda, and Abhay Deol, were spotted visiting him to check on the veteran actor’s condition.

Known for unforgettable performances in classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Haqeeqat, Seeta Aur Geeta, and The Burning Train, Dharmendra’s filmography is filled with iconic roles. However, few know that he was also considered for a major role in Shaan (1980), the star-studded action thriller directed by Sholay director Ramesh Sippy.

Released five years after Sholay and written by Salim-Javed, Shaan featured Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Sunil Dutt, and Shatrughan Sinha, but Dharmendra was almost part of this ensemble. Here’s the interesting story behind which role he was offered and why he couldn’t be in the film.

Why Did Dharmendra Turn Down Shaan?

Although filmmaker Ramesh Sippy initially planned to reunite with the Sholay cast for his next big project, Shaan, fate had other plans. As per a report by News18, Ramesh Sippy wanted to cast Dharmendra, Hema Malini, and Sanjeev Kumar in key roles. However, Dharmendra decided not to be part of the film due to some differences with the director. Following his exit, Hema Malini also chose to step away, and eventually, Sanjeev Kumar too opted out, leading the filmmaker to rework the cast.

Which Actor Replaced Dharmendra in Shaan?

After Dharmendra’s exit from Shaan, there were big shoes to fill. The role eventually went to Shashi Kapoor, who had recently shared the screen with Amitabh Bachchan in Yash Chopra’s 1979 action-drama Kaala Patthar. His effortless charm and strong on-screen chemistry with Amitabh Bachchan made him a fitting addition to Ramesh Sippy’s ensemble.

What Is Shaan All About?

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, this action drama follows brothers Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor), carefree conmen whose lives take a dark turn after their honest brother, Inspector Shiv Kumar (Sunil Dutt), is killed by the ruthless crime lord Shakaal (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Teaming up with a skilled marksman (Shatrughan Sinha), they set out to infiltrate Shakaal’s island fortress to avenge their brother’s death.

Where to Watch Shaan?

Shana is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and MX Player digital platforms in India.

“Are you the one they’re looking for?” “Do you think I am?” Who is who in this mystery thriller? Take a look at the official trailer for an indie suspense thriller called Death Among the Pines, latest from filmmaker / actor Nathan Shepka – who both stars in and directs this film. From the same team behind this year’s other gothic chiller The Baby in the Basket comes a new Hitchcock-inspired mystery thriller called Death Among the Pines. One night during a heavy rainstorm, a stranded stranger knocks on the door of Angela’s country cottage, claiming his car has broken down. Angela allows him in to shelter but soon a police officer arrives, asking questions, amid conducting a manhunt for an escaped criminal. The trailer starts a bit slow but builds up to some real fascinating intrigue.

This six-part psychological thriller series will premiere all episodes starting in December. When perfect stay-at-home Jess rushes her baby to the ER with a head injury, she’s treated by one of her closest friends, Liz. Alarmed by Jess’ behavior, Liz calls social services, triggering an major chain of events – that ripples, fractures and nearly destroys not only their families but also their entire friendship group. Directed by BAFTA nominee Eva Sigurðardóttir (Good Night, Rainbow Party), the series pairs realism and suspense to create an intimate yet unnerving portrait of modern motherhood. Anchored by Diane Kruger, the ensemble cast also includes Jo Joyner, Shelley Conn, Emily Taaffe, JJ Feild, Ben Bailey Smith, Patrick Baladi, & Stephen Campbell Moore. “I want you to feel safe here. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” Lionsgate has debuted a second trailer for the sneaky thriller movie titled The Housemaid, the second feature arriving this year made by director filmmaker Paul Feig (following Another Simple Favor in the summer). This one hits theaters in December – as counter-programming opening opposite of Avatar: Fire and Ash. A bit of holiday debauchery. Based on the first book in the novel series written by Freida McFadden. The Housemaid stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a young woman with a troubled past who takes on a job as a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family, however, their seemingly perfect life unravels when she discovers their household hides dark secrets beneath the surface. Also stars Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, & Elizabeth Perkins. Watching this trailer it seems pretty obvious what is going on, the beef between these two, just not sure how it’ll all play out. What a twisted trailer! This will definitely get some people’s attention. Watch out.

Here’s the second official trailer (+ posters) for Paul Feig’s movie The Housemaid, direct from YouTube:

But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous – a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end. The Housemaid directed by American filmmaker Paul Feig, director of the films I Am David, Unaccompanied Minors, Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, Ghostbusters,, Last Christmas, The School for Good and Evil, Jackpot!, plus A Simple Favor and Another Simple Favor previously. The screenplay is written by Rebecca Sonnenshine; adapted from the novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. “Do you understand what kind of mess this girl is in? You don’t want to mess with these people.” “Oh I’m planning on it.” Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed an official trailer for a film called Hunting Season, a survival thriller from filmmaker Raja Collins. This is being dropped directly on VOD to watch starting in December if anyone is curious. When a reclusive survivalist and his daughter rescue a mysterious, wounded woman from a river, they become entangled in a deadly web of violence & revenge, forcing them to confront a brutal criminal to survive. Both the feisty girl who discovers her and the overprotective father are forever changed by the arrival of this mysterious stranger, and by the ruthless drug lord who will stop at nothing to kill her once and for all. The film stars Mel Gibson, Shelley Hennig, Sofia Hublitz, and Jordi Molla. Yet another bland, schlocky action thriller that most will never watch. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

“Do you not believe your own visions?” Magnolia Pictures has revealed the second trailer for the intriguing experimental film The Carpenter’s Son, described as a dark, mysterious, horror spin on the story of Jesus (here’s the first trailer). From the same director behind the films 12 O’Clock Boys and Harka. This new film is based on the apocryphal gospel, known as the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. A remote village in Roman-era Egypt explodes into spiritual warfare when a carpenter & his son Jesus are targeted by supernatural forces. A boy, known only as “The Boy”, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child (clearly it’s Satan in human form) and rebels against his guardian, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural & divine. The film stars Nicolas Cage as The Carpenter, FKA Twigs as The Mother, Noah Jupe as The Boy, with Souheila Yacoub and Isla Johnston. Ready for release in theaters this November if anyone is curious to watch it. Director Lotfy Nathan, inspired by his Coptic Christian background, delivers a meticulously crafted, genre-bending supernatural thriller packed with unshakeable images. It looks crazy! Gotta appreciate the vision.

Here’s the second trailer (+ new poster) for Lotfy Nathan’s film The Carpenter’s Son, from YouTube:

The Carpenter's Son Poster

You can watch the first official trailer for Lotfy Nathan’s The Carpenter’s Son right here for more footage.

A remote village in Roman-era Egypt explodes into spiritual warfare when a carpenter, his wife and their child are targeted by supernatural forces. Joseph (Cage), Mary (FKA Twigs) and their teenage son Jesus (Jupe) have lived for years under threat, clinging to their faith and traditions. But a stopover in a small settlement unleashes growing chaos when a mysterious stranger (Isla Johnston) tries to entice Jesus to abandon his devout father’s rules. With every pull of temptation, the boy is lured into a forbidden world, as a terrified Joseph realizes that a demonic power is at work. Violent, unnatural events inexplicably follow Jesus, and he begins to experience nightmarish visions of the future. Finally, he learns the fearsome truth about his new playmate, as well as the child’s real name: Satan. The Carpenter’s Son is written and directed by British-American visionary filmmaker Lotfy Nathan, director of the films 12 O’Clock Boys and Harka previously, plus a few other shorts. Inspired by the classic “Infancy Gospel of Thomas“. Produced by Brahim Chioua, Eva Diederix, Alex Hughes, Yiannis Iakovidis, Eugene Kotlyarenko, Riccardo Maddalosso, Vincent Maraval, Solène Michel, Julie Viez, and Nicolas Cage. This hasn’t premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Magnolia Pictures will debut Lofty Nathan’s The Carpenter’s Son film in select US theaters starting November 14th, 2025 coming up soon this month. Anyone planning to watch this?

“We have to lure them out of the woods.” Apple TV has revealed their official trailer for a gripping French thriller series titled The Hunt, also known as Traqués in French, made by famous production company Gaumont in France. Not to be confused with either the Danish film called The Hunt with Mads Mikkelsen or the controversial American film The Hunt from a few years ago. But just as unsettling as those films. Franck and his buddies enjoy going on hunting trips. One day, they encounter another hunting group who strangely targets them. In self-defense, Franck’s group injures one of the attackers. But paranoia sets in as they return home and try to forget the incident – but the start to feel hunted by now vengeful enemies after them. “The most dangerous enemy is the one you can’t see.” Starring Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Laurent, pluds Damien Bonnard, Manuel Guillot, Cédric Appietto, Angelyna Danabe-Mignot, Sarah Pachoud, Yann Goven, Paul Beaurepaire, and Patrick De Vallette. This reminds me of that Netflix series “Beef” where a random occurrence turns into something bigger that destroys everyone’s lives. Looks just as crazy.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Cédric Anger’s thriller series The Hunt, direct from YouTube:

The Hunt Series

The Hunt Poster

Franck (Benoît Magimel) and his longtime friends enjoy spending their weekends hunting together, but one Sunday, they come across another group of hunters who start targeting them without explanation. When one of their party is shot, Franck’s friends strike back, sending an attacker to the ground. Barely managing to escape, they keep the event a secret. Franck tries to go back to his life as usual alongside his wife Krystel (Mélanie Laurent), but in the next few days, he starts to feel like he and his friends are being watched, or worse, tracked by hunters who are now hell-bent on revenge. The Hunt, also titled Traqués (meaning Hunted) in French, is a series created & written & directed entirely by French writer / filmmaker Cédric Anger, director of the films The Killer, The Counsel, Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart, and Paris Pigalle previously. Produced by Isabelle Degeorges; made by the studio Gaumont. Executive produced by Sidonie Dumas, Isabelle Degeorges, Clémentine Vaudaux, and Alexis Barqueiro at Gaumont. Apple releases Anger’s The Hunt series streaming on Apple TV+ starting December 3rd, 2025 coming soon. Interested?

“This is the brain on cinema!” Shudder has revealed the official US trailer for a wild and, avant garde film from France titled Reflection in a Dead Diamond, the latest from filmmaking duo Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani. It’s finally out to watch in the US soon – streaming on Shudder starting in December after a short theatrical run this fall. When the mysterious woman in the room next door disappears, a debonair 70-year-old ex-spy living in a luxury hotel is confronted by the demons & darlings of a lurid past in which moviemaking, memories and madness collide. Filmed on the Côte d’Azur in France, a retired spy suspects his former adversaries have resurfaced when his intriguing neighbor vanishes. It’s a peculiar, twisted, heady film featuring all kinds of things going on – mysterious women clad in all black leather, diamond thieves, lots of beautiful shots of the Mediterranean, a woman brandishing a wicked sword. Starring Fabio Testi, Yannick Renier, Koen De Bouw, Maria de Medeiros, & Thi Mai. Reviews explain that it’s not about making any sense of this kooky story, it’s “an homage to and a deconstruction of genre, layering its self-reflexive and meta-textual dimensions to examine the fluidity of identity, memory, and sanity.” So have fun.

Here’s the official US trailer for Cattet & Forzani’s film Reflection in a Dead Diamond, from YouTube:

Reflection in a Dead Diamond Film

Reflection in a Dead Diamond Poster

You can rewatch the first look promo trailer for Reflection in a Dead Diamond right here for more footage.

Original synopsis via Berlinale: “John is 70 years old and lives in solitary luxury in a grand hotel on the Côte d’Azur. He becomes intrigued by the woman in the room next door who reminds him of his wild years on the Riviera in the 1960s, back when he was a debonair international spy in a world brimming with peril and promise. But when the woman mysteriously disappears, John is beset by flashbacks – or perhaps fantasies – of his glamorous and grotesque past, and the alluring women and dastardly villains who lived and died there. With imagery that pays affectionate homage to the 1960s Eurospy genre and is tinged with playful gore, John’s reality becomes fragmented as he seeks to unravel the puzzle of his past. Memory, madness and moviemaking become increasingly difficult to separate. Are his old enemies back to wreak havoc on his idyllic life? Are there yet more conspiracies and treacheries waiting to be unmasked? Or has he simply been bewitched by the beautiful and dangerous lure of escapist cinema itself?” What a question…

Reflection in a Dead Diamond, originally known as Reflet dans un diamant mort in French, is written and directed by the French artists / indie filmmaking duo Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani, both directors of the films Amer, The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears, and Let the Corpses Tan previously, plus lots of short films and other projects. Produced by Pierre Foulon. This recently premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year playing in the Main Competition there. And it already opened in theaters in France during the summer. Shudder debuts the Reflection in a Dead Diamond film streaming on Shudder starting on December 5th, 2025 – along with a run in limited US theaters on November 21st this fall. Intrigued?

Hot Air Balloon Survival Thriller ‘Turbulence’ Trailer with Jeremy Irvine

by Alex Billington

“You’re not getting away with this…” Lionsgate has debute their trailer for a movie called Turbulence, an intense action thriller survival movie from Swiss filmmaker Claudio Fäh. He’s known for making schlocky direct-to-video action movies and this definitely looks direct-to-VOD quality. Young married couple Zach & Emmy decide to take a hot air balloon trip across the Italian Dolomites to rekindle their relationship. When they and pilot Harry are joined by a third passenger, Julia, events unfold in ways in which they could never imagine 5000 meters (or ~16,400 feet) in the air. In this high-octane action thriller, what should have been the trip of a lifetime turns to disaster as the dark secrets harbored by the passengers are revealed & the wrath of nature is unleashed. With Hera Hilmar, Jeremy Irvine, Kelsey Grammer, Olga Kurylenko. Any guesses on what the “dark secret” will be? How will they get out of this safely? I love “99 Red Balloons” but the song clips they use in this trailer are so bad. The whole film looks way too cheap & cheesy to watch.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Claudio Fäh’s thriller movie Turbulence, direct from YouTube:

Turbulence Poster

Zach & Emmy’s (Jeremy Irvine & Hera Hilmar) romantic retreat on a hot air balloon takes a terrifying turn when they are hijacked by a sinister third passenger with a link to Zach’s past. As the mystery of their secret relationship is revealed, their spectacular ride becomes a brutal mental chess match and a lethal battle high in the sky. Kelsey Grammer leads a brilliant cast in this psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very last moment. Turbulence is directed by Swiss filmmaker Claudio Fäh, director of the movies Coronado, Hollow Man II, Sniper: Reloaded, Northmen: A Viking Saga, Beyond Valkyrie, Sniper: Ultimate Kill, No Way Up, and also the series “Wilder”. The screenplay is written by Andy Mayson. Produced by Richard J. Berthy, Amanda Bowers, Molly Conners, Andy Mayson. Lionsgate will debut Fäh’s Turbulence movie in select US theaters + on VOD starting December 12th, 2025 coming up. Look scary?

Tom Blyth Stars in ‘High Finance’ Thriller Film ‘Bull Run’ Official Trailer

“I was thinking we could do some number-crunching tonight – if you’re free.” Vertical has revealed their official trailer for a financial thriller film called Bull Run, made by filmmaker Alfredo Barrios Jr. as his feature directorial debut. It premiered at a film festival last year and will be out to watch on VOD later this month. In banking terms, a “bull run” is a period of sustained upward price movement in a market, such as stocks or cryptocurrencies, driven by investor confidence and optimism. The film follows a young former hockey player turned “high finance” banker working in NYC. In the wilds of Wall Street, one junior banker discovers that the only thing more dangerous than billion-dollar deals are the men signing them. Starring Tom Blyth with Chris Diamantopoulos, Jay Mohr, Zach Villa, Jordyn Denning, Ashwin Gore, Helena Mattson, Trevor Gretzky, Troy Garity, Sam Daly, and Alyshia Ochse. This film looks okay, but I’d rather recommend the excellent Fair Play film instead, also set in the cut-throat Wall Street offices.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Alfredo Barrios Jr.’s film Bull Run, direct from Vertical’s YouTube:

Bull Run Poster

“Greed has its limits.” Bobby Sanders (Tom Blyth), a hustling, fast-talking ex-pro-hockey-player-turned-junior-banker, navigates the quirky and somewhat surreal world of high finance as he confronts life’s meaning within his gilded cage. Bull Run is directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Alfredo Barrios Jr., making his feature film directorial debut after working on some TV series and a few short films previously. The screenplay is written by Alfredo Barrios Jr and Bill Keenan. Produced by Bill Keenan, Doug Ellin, Karen Baldwin, Howard Baldwin, Andrew Sugerman, Bill Immerman. This first premiered at the 2024 Newport Beach Film Festival last year but didn’t show up anywhere else. Vertical will release Barrios Jr’s Bull Run movie in select US theaters + on VOD starting November 14th, 2025 this fall. Anyone interested in this?
