Blood of My Blood’ Stars on Triple-Childbirth Episode 6

by jummy84 September 6, 2025
written by jummy84

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers from “Birthright,” Episode 6  of “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” now streaming on Starz.

“Outlander” has always been a baptism by fire kind of experience for its actors. More than a decade into the franchise, the sweeping romanticism of author Diana Gabaldon’s story is matched only by a constantly evolving definition of trauma, leaving each character –– and the audience –– to brace for the brutality of life and whatever fresh hell awaits them around every corner.

Julia (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) rounded that proverbial corner in the sixth episode of Starz’s prequel series “Outlander: Blood of My Blood.” In the span of the hour, Corfield gives birth not once but twice on screen, while Irvine plays out Henry’s mental collapse in real time. But before you worry too much for the actors, being handed that defining traumatic moment to chew on is kind of a rite of passage in the world of “Outlander.”

“I think that’s the thing with the show,” Irvine tells Variety. “It’s an epic, epic story, and everyone will have their time, I’m sure.”

Rite of passage or not, it was still a heavy lift for Corfield to perform two birthing scenes back to back, an experience she’s kind of hazy on more than a year later.

“I think it was a week of birthing, actually,” Corfield says of how the scenes were filmed. “If I’m remembering correctly, I think that was why it was so intense because I realized I was doing a whole week of this. [For the main birthing scene], we were in that room filming for three or four days.”

Since inadvertently time traveling back to 1714 Scotland, Julia and Henry have endured enormous hurdles to survive as people out of time. She has been forced into servitude in the home of the cruel, relentless Lord Lovat (Tony Curran), whom she slept with to cover up that she is carrying Henry’s baby. She feared Lovat would get rid of the baby if it wasn’t his, and a seer prophecy that the child will grow up to be king has now made her even more valuable to him. Henry, meanwhile, has been conscripted as an accountant for Isaac Grant (Brian McCardie), a treacherous position that promises the opportunity to search for Julia if only he can navigate the politics of the time.

Julia’s tenuous circumstances at Castle Leathers reach a breaking point in Episode 6 when she goes into labor, leading to a frenzied birthing scene where she is assisted and then berated by a gaggle of howdies (Scottish midwives) who come to support her until her fellow housemaid Davina (Sarah Vickers) begins to question the legitimacy of the pregnancy. When she claims Julia seduced Lovat, the howdies become venomous, leaving the expectant mother writhing on the straw-strewn floor to defend the paternity between contractions. She’s lying, of course. Henry is the father. But in this moment, she vehemently stands her ground as if it were the truth because for her baby to survive, it has to be.

“I think she must die a little bit inside every time she has to lie and say Lovat is the father,” Corfield says.

The actor says she loaded up on energy drinks to get multiple days of shooting the birth, much of which required her to fend off the threats of the howdies and a furious Davina.

Courtesy of Sanne Gault/Starz

“I wanted to map out the intensity of the contractions, as well as the intensity of the women for this moment because it kind of goes hand in hand,” she says. “They both get more and more wild as the scene goes on. But the main thing for Julia is she is just in absolute animal instinct mode. She’s purely trying to protect this child, and that’s her only intention. The howdies were having to grab onto me and I was being sort of manhandled all day every day. So it was really quite easy to do, because I didn’t have to pretend to be exhausted. I was absolutely exhausted fighting for my life!”

This scene is intercut with a comparatively calm flashback to when Julia gave birth to Claire (the character played by Caitriona Balfe in the flagship series). Then, she was standing in a crouched position, grabbing onto the metal bars of her and Henry’s bed in their flat back in London. Meanwhile, he’s fumbling around trying to find something to comfort her in an impossibly uncomfortable moment. It’s become an increasingly rare sight, seeing these two together and happy.

“There’s an elation there, and it feels like young love epitomized,” Corfield says. “It’s in total opposition to what we see in the other scene, which felt like a totally different experience. In the castle, she’s on her knees a lot. She’s crawling around. [The howdies] are circling her. She tends to be sort of below all of them for quite a lot of it, and there’s that sensation of them closing in on her.”

Throughout the writhing and the screaming, Julia’s fortitude wears down a defiant Davina, whose history with Lovat feeds the moment. Further flashbacks show when Davina was first raped by Lovat and the resulting birth of her own son, Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), aka the father of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). If you’re counting at home, that’s the third birthing scene in this one episode. But it’s revealed she also rejected the howdies’ scorn for how she got pregnant, just as Julia is doing now. Davina eventually casts out the howdies on Julia’s behalf, and even banishes Lovat when he barges in with a priest trying to marry Julia before the baby is born so it won’t arrive out of wedlock — something that will likely come at her own peril.

“It’s a really lovely moment, because Julia appeals to Davina as a mother,” Corfield says. “She’s saying that the way you shaped your son is down to you. Please let me shape my son. Don’t let me die, and don’t leave me in the hands of Lovat. At that moment, they become a team.”

The impact these three births have on the “Outlander” canon is massive. Fans will undoubtedly be thrilled to see the literal origins of Claire and Brian, both of whom are essential for bringing the original series story to pass. But it’s the new as-yet-named baby boy who remains a question mark. Gabaldon has always told fans Claire’s parents died when she was five years old, making their survival in the past and the arrival of her little brother a new wrinkle in the story. Let the wild theorizing of who he will grow up to be commence!

Courtesy of Sanne Gault/Starz

As for the boy’s father, Henry does not get to share in the joy of his son’s birth. His desperate search to find Julia has angered his boss Grant, who concocts a plan to end the perceived distraction once and for all by paying a local midwife to tell the poor guy that his wife died in childbirth nearby. The sudden loss of his anchor and purpose completely shatters Henry’s fragile grip on reality, triggering a PTSD-induced episode in which he runs off screaming and dry heaving –– he has that in common with Julia’s storyline. Then, all of a sudden, a switch is flipped, and he retracts back to a joyous memory of racing home to tell Julia that WWI was over. The creatively shot scene shows him running through the Scottish woods as vestiges of the 20th century dot his path, cementing his break with reality.

“It’s something I put a lot of thought into,” Irvine says. “We’ve seen why they’re in love when we’ve seen them together. We’ve seen how happy it makes them. So now we need to see that Henry cannot face the facts. When she dies, he dies. We need to see that visceral reaction, and how unsettling would it be to see him have this mental breakdown with the absolute limits of despair and grief, and then that turns into elation and laughter? I thought that would be quite unsettling to watch. This is someone who is incredibly damaged, and who might be so broken at this point that we’re not sure what he’s going to do next.”

Audiences at least know where he’s headed in the immediate future as he runs off into his 1910s fantasy world. While Henry thinks he’s falling into the arms of Julia in his memory, he actually races straight to a sex worker whose advances he’d denied –– until now. In the fog of his mental break, he believes she is Julia and has sex with her, adding yet another line item to the list of things the Beauchamps have to catch up on.

Corfield and Irvine are currently filming Season 2 of the series in Scotland, so they are bound to secrecy on what’s to come. But they both agree this is the moment that will make or break their once-happy couple. “It’s kind of putting unconditional love to the test, I suppose,” he says.

Julia has been with Lovat out of pure survival instincts, so Henry isn’t the only one in bed with another. But Corfield admits this particular twist is different.

“It’s a hard pill to swallow for me and for Julia,” she says. “I was heartbroken when I read it. Their love is so deep, but that’s not to say that something like this would be easily forgotten. It’s something they will definitely have to talk through when they meet again.”

James Gunn, Stars on That Rick Reveal, What It Means for Harcourt (Exclusive)

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 3, “Another Rick Up My Sleeve.”]

Peacemaker delivers a massive twist in Season 2’s third installment, “Another Rick Up My Sleeve,” as Joel Kinnaman reprises his role as Rick Flag Jr. in two forms, one the version fans met in The Suicide Squad and the other the “jarhead” hinted at in Peacemaker‘s alternate dimension.

While the episode opens with a flashback scene revealing that Rick Jr. and Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) were having an affair, it goes on to reveal that alternate dimension Harcourt is also involved with the Rick from her universe amid Christopher Smith’s (John Cena) attempt to woo her when he wakes up in that world at the start of this episode following his boozy night with the 11th Street Kids.

The revelation of Harcourt’s bond with Rick Jr. explains a lot when it comes to her initial hatred towards Peacemaker in Season 1; after all, Chris killed Rick Jr. during their mission in Corto Maltese. When it came to Kinnaman’s return and incorporation into this storyline, series creator and DC Comics co-head James Gunn tells TV Insider that was part of the plan “since before we shot Season 1, that Harcourt and Rick Flag had had an affair and were having an affair when he got killed… but beyond that they were also friends, and Economos is friends with him too.”

“That’s the reason they’re so negative towards Peacemaker when he comes on board at the beginning,” Gunn explains, “even though morally, obviously, Harcourt is as fluid as Peacemaker is throughout Season 1.”

As for having Kinnaman step into the alternate dimension as “jarhead” Rick Flag, Gunn was excited to allow the actor to have some more comedic moments as he nervously tiptoes around Chris. “Joel and I are good friends, so I asked him to do me a favor, but I also wanted to give him an opportunity to do something that’s purely comedic, because he’s a really funny guy,” Gunn explains.

“He’s never been in a comedy his entire life, so being able to show him doing this sort of namby-pamby version of Rick Flag Jr. … every time I watch those scenes, I laugh out loud,” Gunn admits.

While the alternate dimension allowed for a Peacemaker-Rick reunion of sorts, it also opened Chris’s eyes to the reality of this new world, in which Harcourt is less jagged around the edges and he’s a beloved hero. See what Holland has to say about embracing that other side of Harcourt in the alternate dimension, David Denman talk about donning Keith’s super suit, and Steve Agee talk about Economos’s reunion with Judomaster in the full video interview above.

The three-day event, which kicks off in New York City on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and runs through Thursday, Sept. 18, will give U.S.-based women and non-binary filmmakers a chance to experience creative support, funding, and career-launching opportunities.

Participants will refine their ideas with script development, music composition, and costume design insights from Sarah Paulson, Kerry Washington, and Jane Fonda, in between enjoying candid conversations with Lucy Liu, Olivia Wilde, Tessa Thompson, and more industry leaders.

The workshop ends with a live pitch session, where finalists will present their projects to a jury that includes Fahy and Rae, plus Jenny Slate, Allison Janney, and Kaitlyn Dever. One team is then granted full financing to make their short film with support from Tribeca Studios, while the four additional teams will walk away with development grants.

“Through Her Lens isn’t just a program — it’s a community Tribeca and CHANEL have built with purpose,” Jane Rosenthal, Co-Founder and CEO of Tribeca Enterprises, said in a press release.

“Throughout these ten years, we’ve created a space where women filmmakers champion each other’s work, alumni open doors for one another, and belonging to this network truly means something in our industry. In partnership with CHANEL, we’ve been steadfast in our commitment to amplify voices that have always been here but too often go unheard,” she added.

“Through Her Lens is about consistency, perseverance, and meaningful change — the kind that shifts the very fabric of our culture at a moment when it’s needed most,” Rosenthal said.

Saturday Night Live went through a cast shakeup two months ahead of its season 51 premiere, and while some departures are shocking, the NBC sketch comedy series cycles through different comedians every year. So, who’s actually returning for SNL in 2025, and who’s part of the new cast?

Following SNL50 and the show’s season 50 finale, the show’s longest-running cast member, Kenan Thompson, teased to Page Six that “bittersweet” changes were imminent.

“Especially this year where it feels like there’s maybe, possibly, a lot of change next year,” the Nickelodeon alum said. “You want everyone to stay forever, knowing that people may be making decisions this summer. It’s always like you want your kids to stay young.”

Hollywood Life has the latest updates on who’s in the SNL season 51 cast and who’s leaving.

Was SNL Canceled?

No, season 51 of SNL will still air on October 4, 2025. The show has not been canceled.

Who Is Returning to the SNL Cast for Season 51?

At the time of publication, these names are presumably still part of SNL for its 51st season:

Who Are the New SNL Season 51 Cast Members?

The following were announced as new cast members of SNL season 51:

  • Tommy Brennan
  • Jeremy Culhane
  • Ben Marshall
  • Kam Patterson
  • Veronika Slowikowska

Since multiple cast members have left the show, this list can change at any point before season 51 airs in October 2025.

Who Is Leaving SNL? 2025 Cast Departures

The following cast members are leaving SNL ahead of season 51:

Why Is Heidi Gardner Leaving SNL?

Heidi has not publicly commented on her shocking exit from SNL at the time of publication. Her departure comes eight years after she made her debut, and the actress became the longest-running tenured female on the show.

Was Anyone Fired From SNL?

It’s unclear who was fired and who left on their own accord, but Devon and Emil seemingly hinted that they were released from SNL.

Devon was the first to comment on his departure, sharing a screenshot from a computer Text Edit note to his Instagram carousel post in August 2025.

“Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes, it was really cool,” Devon wrote in his statement. “Sometimes, it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f**ked up lil family.”

The top of Devon’s note was labeled, “wait..did he quit or did he get fired?”

As for Emil, the comedian also confirmed his exit via Instagram, implying that he was released upon receiving a phone call.

“I won’t be returning to SNL next year,” Emil confirmed via Instagram in late August 2025. “It was a gut punch of a call to get, but I’m so grateful for my time there.”

Why Female Pop Stars And Sexuality Still Spark Outrage In 2025? | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

The Blueprint: Madonna and Britney

Madonna set the standard in the early 1990s. With her album Erotica and the infamous Sex book, she pushed boundaries that had never been touched in mainstream pop. She was called vulgar, banned on TV, and branded a bad influence, yet she rewrote what pop stardom could look like.

Why Female Pop Stars And Sexuality Still Spark Outrage In 2025

A few years later, Britney Spears walked into the same trap. Her “…Baby One More Time” schoolgirl image turned her into America’s sweetheart and tabloid target all at once. As she grew bolder in her music and performances, the media turned on her, questioning whether she was “too provocative.” Britney’s career became a case study in how the industry builds women up only to tear them down when they dare to change.

The Rap Vanguard: Nicki and Cardi

By the 2010s, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B redefined how women could use sexuality in music. Nicki’s Anaconda video broke records and broke the internet, while Cardi B’s WAP became both a feminist anthem and a lightning rod for moral panic.

nicki and cardi
Why Female Pop Stars And Sexuality Still Spark Outrage In 2025? 4

What stood out was the hypocrisy. Male rappers had been bragging about sex for decades without scrutiny. When Nicki and Cardi flipped the script, critics accused them of “going too far.” Yet their success showed that audiences were ready for women to own the narrative, even if society wasn’t.

The New Era: Taylor and Sabrina

Fast forward to 2025. Taylor Swift, once the ultimate “girl next door,” is now experimenting with a showgirl persona. Album covers, bold photoshoots, and sultry lyrics have divided her fanbase. Some say it doesn’t match the Taylor they grew up with; others argue it’s simply an artist evolving on her own terms.

taylor and sabrina
Why Female Pop Stars And Sexuality Still Spark Outrage In 2025? 5

Sabrina Carpenter, meanwhile, has taken the spotlight as pop’s newest provocateur. Her album Man’s Best Friend sparked backlash before it even dropped. The cover image, showing her on her knees with a man pulling her hair, was called “degrading” by some and “satire” by others. The album itself turned out to be playful, cheeky, and far from shocking, but the controversy proved how easily female sexuality still rattles audiences.

The Real Issue:

The backlash these women face isn’t really about the music. It’s about control. When female pop stars decide how to present their sexuality, society struggles to accept it. Critics call it a bad influence, fans call it “out of character,” and commentators fall back on the same old labels.

Decades after Madonna was told she’d gone too far, nothing has really changed. Female sexuality in pop still feels “radical”, not because it is, but because society keeps refusing to move on.

Conclusion:

From Madonna to Sabrina Carpenter, the cycle repeats: outrage, debate, judgment. The music evolves, the aesthetics shift, but the conversation remains stuck. Until society stops policing how women choose to express themselves, every new era will look like the old one, just dressed in a different costume.

‘SNL’ Stars Bowen Yang, Marcello Hernández, More React to Cast Exodus

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Amid the cast shake-up at Saturday Night Live, current and former stars are sharing their reactions to the news ahead of season 51.

Last week, it was revealed that Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker and Emil Wakim have exited the long-running NBC sketch comedy series — the most departures since 2022, when eight people left SNL ahead of season 48.

Some of those leaving took to their respective social media accounts to announce their departures, leading other current and former SNL stars to react in the comments.

Longfellow shared on Instagram that he’s leaving after three seasons. Bowen Yang responded to his post, writing, “Jesus WAS Chinese. I love you Michael.” The Wicked actor was referencing Longfellow’s claim during one of his previous Weekend Update segments.

Marcello Hernández also shared, “Love bro, thank you for letting me cfb whenever, my roommate,” to which Longfellow replied, “the ps5, shes yours now brother.”

Wakim added, “Yellow room forever u can play as many bones songs as u want.”

Molly Shannon, who was a castmember on SNL from 1995 to 2001 and returned to host in 2007 and 2023, also commented on Longfellow’s post, “You RULE michael. So honored and happy to have gotten to meet you and work with you. Congratulations on an excellent run on SNL! love talking to you when I was there. Wishing you so much continued success.”

As for Walker, who is also departing the NBC comedy show after three seasons, Chloe Fineman wrote under his post on Instagram, “I’ll miss being your pregnant wife all the time!!!!!” Gardner also commented, “I love you.”

Shannon added, “So nice meeting you Devon! Wishing you so much continued success.”

Wakim, who is exiting SNL after one season, previously shared on social media that it wasn’t his choice to exit the show. Former castmember Punkie Johnson, who left the show last year, responded, “Omg at first glance I thought this was a birthday post…this is really truly surprising…I’m glad you are focusing on the good and are proud of yourself and the work you put in not many people can say they were on SNL and for the 50th in legendary… You a legend baby… Outside ain’t bad. Welcome back.”

Fineman also commented, “Your such a stat and ill miss sitting next to the best dressed man at table read!!!”

Gardner, who was a castmember on SNL for eight seasons, has yet to comment on her departure on social media.

Executive producer Lorne Michaels and castmember Kenan Thompson previously teased that cast changes were likely. It’s unclear if more people are expected to leave the show ahead of the season 51 premiere on Oct. 4.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Siblings Derek and Julianne Hough on Growing Up Together on the Hit Series (Exclusive)

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

With hundreds of episodes of Dancing With the Stars between them, siblings Derek and Julianne Hough quick-stepped their way into America’s hearts. We caught up with the Emmy-winning choreographers — Derek is now a judge and Julianne a cohost on the show — to chat about their favorite memories and what keeps them coming back to the ballroom.

What does 20 years of Dancing With the Stars mean to you?

Julianne Hough: I don’t know where to begin. The show has been in the homes of families year after year. There’s something so beautiful about the fact that people come on [the dance floor] being vulnerable and grow right in front of our eyes. We see it through rhinestones and fringe, but it’s really this transformational journey.

Derek Hough : It’s incredible to be a part of something that has had this excitement around it for 20 years. Every single thing I’ve experienced on this show has been life-changing. I’ve learned so many different lessons. I’ve grown up on this show.

Yeah, you definitely have!

Derek: I have facial hair now! When I started it [in 2007], I didn’t. I’m a full little man now, kind of. [Laughs]

Who’s gone through that growth process with you on the show that really stands out in your memory?

Julianne: [Olympic speed skater] Apolo Ohno, my first partner, had these big trunk legs, and to watch him figure out how to move his body in a new way and the dedication that he put into it…he transformed in front of our eyes. [Para-snowboarder] Amy Purdy [in Season 18] found this feminine side to her that she said she hadn’t felt since she lost her legs.

Derek: Amy was extraordinary. Dancing with [conservationist] Bindi Irwin [on Season 21] was really special.

Adam Taylor / Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Images

Now Bindi’s younger brother Robert is coming on the show for Season 34.

Derek: I’m going to be so hard on Robert! I’m just kidding. [Laughs] It is really amazing to see the full-circle moment — dancing with Bindi 10 years ago, and here Robert is.

Did you two ever think you’d be working together like this?

Derek: No. Our parents actually said, “Hey, you should dance with your sister.” And I’m like, “No, no, you’re defeating the whole purpose of why I started to dance!” I wanted to dance with girls.

Julianne: I am a girl.

Derek: Well, you know what I’m saying. But it’s actually amazing to see our careers have run on these beautiful parallel lines.

Julianne: That pathway of being a dancer and then a judge — it’s kind of crazy.

Derek: Let’s be honest, Julianne was first on Dancing With the Stars.

Julianne: Did you just give me credit?

Derek: I did! [Aside] But she only won twice.

Is there a childhood dynamic that still kicks in when you’re together?

Julianne: Clearly, there’s sibling rivalry. We’re just really playful with each other.

Derek: We’re just goofs.

Julianne: What I love is that every week we’re in different areas on set, but we get our little moments where we get to hang out in the commercial breaks. It’s cool.

Do you have a dream celebrity cast member?

Julianne: Keke Palmer would be so fun to have on, because her personality is so big and she’s so authentic. Kelly Ripa would be amazing. Chris Hemsworth should come back since he did the Australian version and placed sixth. But there’s nothing like the American version.

Derek, you’ve won the Mirrorball trophy six times! How did you celebrate?

Derek: The initial moment was just unbelievable. Weirdly enough, [as a pro] the celebration was short-lived. The next day is like, “All right, got to think about the next season.” But now, I get to look back at those moments with Bindi or Nicole Scherzinger or Jennifer Grey and celebrate.

What’s your favorite role on the show — dancer, judge, or host?

Julianne: They all come with something different. As a dancer, you’re competing, and as a judge, you want to give your expertise to help [the contestants] grow. As a host, my job is to [make sure] everyone else feels like they have the space to shine and connect with the audience.

Derek: The hardest part about being a judge is that you’ve got 15 seconds to say something, whereas as a dancer, you have several hours to work and nitpick at things. But I love being in that room. When you walk into the ballroom, it is really sacred ground. The stories that have unfolded, the triumphs, the failures, the heartbreaks. There’s so much that has happened in that room, and every time I walk in there, every season, it’s a brand-new feeling.

Alan Ritchson Stars, Jack White Was Musical Director

Jack White has revealed the trailer for Potsy Ponciroli’s nearly silent action film, Motor City, for which the Detroit rocker served as musical director. Watch it below.

Led by Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, Motor City is set in 1970s Detroit and only features four or five lines of dialogue, depending on whether you go by Ponciroli or co-star Ben Foster’s count. The trailer, soundtracked by Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” shows Ritchson’s John Miller being arrested after being set up by local gangster Reynolds (Foster).

“A working class romantic is framed by a ruthless gangster after falling for his girlfriend,” reads the official synopsis. “After years in prison, he returns with only one mission: revenge.”

Directed by Ponciroli from a script by Chad St. John, Motor City also stars Shailene Woodley as Sophia, who is caught in a love triangle between Miller and Reynolds. The cast is rounded out by Pablo Schreiber, Ben McKenzie, Lionel Boyce, Amar Chadha-Patel, and more.

Motor City premiered at the Venice Film Festival this weekend, but it currently doesn’t have a theatrical release date.

In other Jack White news, he recently got the attention of the White House after blasting the “disgusting” Oval Office decorations. In response to being called a “has-been loser,” White hit back with a lengthy Instagram post, saying that Trump is “masquerading” as a Christian, a leader, and a businessman. He also went after “professional liar toadies” like White House communications director Steven Cheung and press secretary Karoline Leavitt, for “covering up and masking his fascism as patriotism.”
