Beloved comedian and actor Satish Shah, known for his iconic performances in films and television, passed away on October 25 in Mumbai, leaving the entertainment industry and his fans in deep mourning. Initially, several reports attributed his demise to kidney failure, but his Sarabhai vs Sarabhai co-star Rajesh Kumar, who played Rosesh Sarabhai, has now clarified the true cause of death.

Talking to Bollywood Hungama, Rajesh told that Satish Shah experienced an sudden cardiac arrest when he was eating lunch at home. “I can’t explain to you how emotional these past 24–25 hours have been. It’s very hard to even put into words. But I want to clear a few things about Satishji’s death,” Rajesh stated. “Yes, he did have a kidney problem, but he really died of a heart attack. He was home, eating lunch, and then he just… died.”

Rajesh went on to clarify that the kidney failure reports were not correct, informing, “The kidney problem had already been tackled; it was in control. Sadly, it was a sudden cardiac arrest that led him away.” His emotional utterance has shed light for co-workers and fans left perplexed by conflicting news.

Prior to this, Satish Shah’s manager Ramesh Kadatala had also revealed the actor’s last moments. He disclosed that the senior actor collapsed while having lunch between 2 pm and 2:45 pm. “Kal lunch karte samaye hua tha. Woh khana khaate khaate ek niwala khaye, phir collapse hua,” he explained. Ramesh said it took around half an hour for the ambulance to reach the location, and when Satish Shah was taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

The neighbor of the actor, Anup, who was at home when the emergency broke out, remembered the hectic and poignant moments that ensued. “The moment Ramesh called me, I rushed there. Satish kaka ke liye madad chalu kiya… hum koshish karte rahe unko sahi karne ke liye,” he explained. Recalling the actor fondly, he added, “He was such a good person — an artist with a big heart.”. If your sleep is not as smooth-sailing as you would like, instead of blaming the ticking clock in your room or the inability to find the right side of pillow (the envied cold side), consider backing up a bit and evaluating the journey leading up to bedtime.

Upon a closer look, it may feel like an obstacle course: doomscrolling on social media, resisting the urge to start a new series and playing devil’s advocate about whether to heat the frozen pizza or make ramen from scratch.

One of the primary sleep disturbances is the food you eat leading up to bedtime. A study published in 2020 in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health revealed that meal timing is a key determinant for frequent awakenings at night and poor sleep quality. Meal timing here refers to how close your dinner is to bedtime. The researchers reiterated the value of the gap between meals and bedtime. They called it ‘a widely accepted sleep hygiene practice.’

Eating heavily before bed sets off a chain reaction. When you eat close to bedtime, you are likely to face sleep problems because of a bloated belly. You end up tossing and turning, and before you know your alarm is already ringing to ‘wake’ you up.

A more recent study from this year, in October, highlighted that if you sleep late, your brain ages faster, inviting dangers like neurodegenerative disorders, such as dementia.

So, when exactly should you eat dinner then? To find out the answer to this question, HT Lifestyle reached out to Dr Haresh Mehta, consultant, cardiology at PD Hinduja Hospital and MRC, Khar. The rough time frame, he suggested, “Try finishing your dinner at least 2 hours before bedtime.”

If you are one of the few to eat dinner late at night, whether because of work pressures or simply habit, it’s worth knowing how it hurts your body, for an eye-opener moment.

“When you eat a heavy dinner late at night, your body keeps working instead of resting. It can lead to acidity, poor sleep, and higher sugar and cholesterol levels. Over time, that puts pressure on your heart,” the cardiologist shared.

Even after dinner, sometimes the cravings stay, the urge to cleanse your palate or munch on something sweet/spicy to call it a day. Instead of reaching for usuals like chips or noodles, Dr Haresh Mehta shared with us these four healthy options and highlighted the benefits for each:

1. Chamomile tea

  • Swap with: Instead of tea or coffee, try a warm cup of chamomile tea.
  • Health value: It helps blood pressure stay under control and relaxes blood vessels.
  • Sleep value: People who drink it often tell me they sleep more deeply and wake up fresher.
  • How to have it: Avoid adding sugar. A few drops of honey are fine.

2. Turmeric water

  • Health value: Turmeric has a natural compound called curcumin. It helps reduce swelling inside your blood vessels, controls cholesterol, and improves blood flow. It keeps arteries clean and heart relaxed.
  • Sleep value: Those who drink it feel lighter, sleep better, and wake up without that heavy feeling.
  • How to have it: Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm water. Can add a few drops of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of honey for taste. Drink it warm, not hot, about one hour after dinner.

3. Small and handful of nuts (walnuts or almonds)

  • Swap with: Instead of chips or biscuits, eat healthy nuts if one feels like munching.
  • Health value: They have good fats that lower bad cholesterol and keep your arteries clean.
  • Portion: Nuts are healthy, but high in calories. Eat only about five to seven soaked almonds or two walnuts

4. Lemon and ginger tea

  • Health value: Great option after dinner, reduces bloating. It also improves blood flow, reduces inflammation.
  • Sleep value: Sleep quality is better if digestion is smooth. This tea helps with digestion.

Heart-healthy habits begin one step at a time. Late-night dinners take a toll on your heart functions. So when can you start seeing the results? The cardiologist revealed that within two weeks itself you start to see changes in your sleep patterns. “Small changes matter. If you replace late-night snacks with these simple drinks or foods for even two weeks, you’ll start feeling lighter, sleeping better, and your heart will thank you,” he elaborated.

I asked BMC to make a grave. Every year on her death anniversary, I just cry,” she shared. In her heart-wrenching confession, Rakhi said that despite her fame, she has faced betrayal and financial loss multiple times.

Rakhi praised Farah Khan for helping her rebuild her life, revealing that the filmmaker is building her a new house after her old one got destroyed. “Farah Ma’am is my life. When I came back after three and a half years, my house was ruined. She’s building it again for me. She gave me Diwali gifts, utensils, a cooker, and a washing machine. She’s my sugar mummy,” Rakhi said. She also expressed deep gratitude to Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, calling them her godfathers, and credited Bollywood for supporting her when no one else did. Speaking of her time shooting with Ektaa R Kapoor’s Naagin and if she was given any liberty while performing, Surbhi Chandna said, “Naagin ke dauraan mera sabse bada dukh yeh tha ki main apni manifestation mein likh chuki thi ki mujhe Balaji aur Ekta ma’am ke saath kaam karna hai. Aur tab tha saala COVID! Aur maine yeh bhi suna tha ki Ekta ma’am baith ke apni conference room mein sab narrations deti hain, and she is so passionate about her narration. We have heard all this while we have done shows and worked with other producers.”

She continued, “And I knew that ek din main Balaji ki heroine banungi. And it came in the form of Naagin 5. Mera narration hua tha vanity van mein with a laptop on Zoom Meet, and Ekta ma’am baithi thi, sab apne gharon ya apne spaces mein baithe hue the. And she narrated how her Naagin is supposed to be, how her performance is supposed to be. Aur mujhe uss show mein kabhi koi problem, complaint, ya demand nahi thi because it was a dream come true.”

Surbhi On Playing Naagin As Lead

Surbhi was shocked at getting the lead role. She said, “Of course, I wasn’t expecting it in the form of Naagin because it’s a very big responsibility. We have seen the best Naagins on television. Aur mujhe lagta tha shayad main justify nahi kar paungi. And I’m very real to myself, agar main nahi kar paungi, toh main nahi kar paungi. Mere yeh doubts the. But they were very confident. The season did okay, decently well. But of course, Sharad and my chemistry became a rage, and people loved us together. Toh aisa kabhi laga nahi.”

Concluding, the actress said, “But coming back to your question, jinke saath bhi maine kaam kiya, mujhe har show mein liberty mili hai. Producers have been kind enough to understand your viewpoint, even performance-wise and all that kyunki woh bhi jaante hain ki after a point, actor starts living the character on set. Aap 14 ghante uss character ko de rahe ho. Woh bhi ek thought leke aaye hain, hum bhi ek thought leke aaye hain.”

Sachin Pilgaonkar shared that his wife, actor Supriya Pilgaonkar, met Satish Shah at his home three days before his death.

Actor Sachin Pilgaonkar has opened up about his late friend Satish Shah and his personal life. Speaking with News18, Sachin revealed that Satish underwent a kidney transplant “as he wanted to extend his life” so that he could take care of his Madhu Shah, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Sachin shared that he got a text message from Satish just hours before his death.

Sachin also said that Satish was on dialysis. “Unfortunately, even Madhu isn’t well. She has Alzheimer’s. This year, Satish got his kidney transplanted. He wanted to extend his wife so that he could take care of Madhu. He was on dialysis. Earlier, he underwent a bypass surgery, which was successful,” he said.

Sachin shared that his wife, Supriya Pilgaonkar, met Satish at his home three days before his death. He said that he and Satish would keep exchanging texts. “In fact, I received a message from him at 12:56 pm today, which means that he was absolutely fine even at that time. That I’m in shock is an understatement. Industry ka loss toh hua hi aur woh baat alag hai (It’s not only industry’s loss), it’s a very, very big personal loss to me,” he also said.

About Satish’s death and career

Satish Shah, whose very presence in films such as Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron and Main Hoon Na and sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai elicited smiles and many a laugh, died on Saturday at 74. He died at his residence in Bandra East in the afternoon. Ramesh Kadatala, his trusted aide and personal assistant for over 30 years, told news agency PTI.

He was a prominent figure in Indian cinema and television. His career spanned several decades, during which he earned acclaim for his comedic timing in movies such as Maalamaal, Hero Hiralal and Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Paresh Rawal Reveals Turning Down Drishyam 3: ‘Script Is Good, But Maza Nahin Aaya’

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal, known for his impeccable comic timing and versatile performances, recently revealed that he declined an offer to be part of Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited thriller Drishyam 3. The actor, who was reportedly approached for a significant role in the upcoming installment of the hit franchise, said that although the script was well-written, it failed to excite him enough to come on board.

In a recent interview, Paresh Rawal spoke candidly about his decision, sharing that he appreciated the storyline and the effort that went into the film but did not feel the same thrill he usually seeks before signing a project. “They offered me a role in Drishyam 3, and I read the script. It’s good, but maza nahi aaya (it didn’t excite me). I need to feel something new or challenging in every role I do. This one didn’t give me that spark,” he explained.

The Drishyam franchise, led by Ajay Devgn, has become one of Bollywood’s most successful thriller series, known for its gripping narrative and emotional depth. The first film, released in 2015, was an official remake of the Malayalam hit of the same name starring Mohanlal. Its sequel, Drishyam 2 (2022), continued the story with new twists and was equally lauded for its tight screenplay and performances. The third part, directed by Abhishek Pathak, is expected to conclude the saga, further exploring the aftermath of Vijay Salgaonkar’s actions and the moral dilemmas surrounding his family.

While the film’s cast is still being finalised, reports suggest that Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Shriya Saran will reprise their roles, with Akshaye Khanna also likely returning. Paresh Rawal’s decision to opt out came as a surprise to fans, many of whom had hoped to see him bring a fresh dimension to the tense psychological world of Drishyam.

Paresh Rawal clarified: ‘Drishyam a great brand’

Paresh Rawal, however, clarified that his decision had nothing to do with the team or the film’s quality. “It’s not about the people or the franchise. Drishyam is a great brand, and Ajay is fantastic. But as an actor, I have to be driven by something deeper than just a good story. It’s about excitement — when I read a script and feel restless to do it, that’s when I say yes,” he said.

The actor, who has delivered iconic performances in films such as Hera Pheri, Oh My God!, Andaz Apna Apna, and Sardar, said that he is currently more selective with his projects, preferring roles that allow him to experiment and surprise his audience. “At this stage of my career, I don’t want to repeat myself. I’ve done the loud, funny, serious, and villainous parts. Now I look for something that challenges me in an unexpected way,” he noted.

Paresh Rawal also commented on the changing landscape of Hindi cinema, praising the rise of realistic storytelling but warning against formula-driven filmmaking. “Audiences are smart now. They can’t be fooled with glamour or big names alone. Every film has to connect emotionally. Sometimes, filmmakers forget that, and that’s when even big projects fail,” he said.

As for Drishyam 3, production is reportedly in advanced stages, and the film is slated for a 2025 release. Director Abhishek Pathak has teased that the final installment will “tie up all loose ends” and offer closure to fans who have followed the series since its inception.

Meanwhile, Paresh Rawal continues to stay busy with a range of projects across film and theatre. He will next be seen in Welcome to the Jungle, the third film in the Welcome comedy series, alongside Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, and Suniel Shetty. The actor also hinted that he is developing a personal project for stage — a dramatic performance that will explore political satire in contemporary India.

“I’ve always believed that art should reflect life,” he said. “And right now, India is full of stories waiting to be told — funny, tragic, and inspiring all at once. My next challenge is to bring those stories alive.”

Before Mariska Hargitay ended up as “America’s sweetheart sex cop,” as she aptly described herself on her Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast appearance, the veteran TV actor thought she would be a comedian and tested for Friends “many times.”

Discussing her affinity for comedy with the Parks and Recreation alumna, Hargitay said “all I wanted to be was you,” reflecting on having come up through The Groundlings, the famed Saturday Night Live pipeline improv school and sketch comedy troupe.

“I did a lot of [comedy auditions],” Hargitay told Poehler about going out for comedic roles at the beginning of her career. “I did Seinfeld, and I did Single Guy, and I tested for Friends so many times.”

When asked which part she auditioned for, Hargitay said, “I think it’s Monica — so long ago, again. But I always thought that I would end up being on a sitcom or doing comedy, that’s what I thought.”

However, a chance encounter with a psychic, who had come highly recommended by her friends, revealed to her a different destiny.

At the time, the My Mom Jayne documentarian had just wrapped her time as Cynthia Hooper on ER and was a “struggling actor.” Via her development deal at DreamWorks, she was then working on a dramedy in the vein of Ally McBeal. But while on a routine trip to New York City, she visited a psychic in Long Island at her friends’ behest, who “started saying all this amazing stuff to me.”

“He said to me, Amy, ‘You see that face you’re doing right now? You see that face?’ … I said, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘You’re gonna be famous for that face. You’re moving to New York, and you’re gonna be famous for that face,’” she recalled. “And I said, ‘Uh, no, I live in L.A., and I’m gonna be a comedian because I’m funny, and I’m pretty, and that is a deadly combination.’ And he looks at me — and this is my favorite moment in my life — and he goes like this, ‘I don’t give a rat’s ass what you say.’”

She concluded, “Six months later, swear to God, I got SVU.”

Hargitay has portrayed no-nonsense and fiercely protective New York Police Department officer-turned-captain Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU since 1999. The Dick Wolf-created NBC mainstay is currently airing its 27th season.

Four years after she was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Christiane Amanpour is optimistic about her latest bout with the disease.

After being off the air for the past month, the CNN anchor recently revealed the return of her cancer in a “fairly rare” form, encouraging other women to “listen to your body” and get checked out.

“I have it again, but it’s being very well-managed, and this is one of the whole things that people have to understand about some cancers,” she said on the Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story podcast.

“I decided when I got back in front of the camera after four weeks — which included the surgery and a couple of weeks of recuperation before I started chemotherapy — I decided to say something because I actually wanted to do a service,” added Amanpour. “Not just to my viewers, but also to those who might be in a similar situation. And I wanted to say what had happened to me. And I wanted to say listen to your body because part of the reason I got such quick care was because I listened to my body and went straight to the doctors.”

Accompanied by gynecology oncology consultant Dr. Angela George, Amanpour explained that her current cancer has been diagnosed as “stage 1/2,” meaning it’s in its first stage but had “adhered to my pelvis.”

“Angela told me what it was and why I was potentially lucky because there were actually pain symptoms,” explained Amanpour. “There’s often no symptoms so many women don’t know, so I feel that I was lucky.”

Amanpour’s health update comes after she was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, noting at the time that she had undergone successful surgery to remove it, followed by several months of chemotherapy.

“As a gut health specialist and surgeon who lives the fitness journey every day, I often get questions about what helps with performance and longevity: prebiotics, probiotics, or protein shakes. The answer is that it’s not about choosing one over the others. It is about finding a good balance among them,” Dr Arpit Bansal, Gut Health and Longevity Specialist, tells Health Shots. He explains some common misunderstandings about these supplements:

Protein shakes

Protein shakes are made of protein powder. When you choose shakes without added sugars or preservatives, they can be a great source of amino acids. These amino acids help with muscle repair, recovery, and stamina, which is important for someone like me who works out, runs, and stays active. “I use protein shakes to help my nutrition, but they are not a substitute for whole foods”, he explains.

Prebiotics and probiotics

“Fitness is often linked to muscle health, but gut health is just as important. I like to think of the gut as a thriving internal rainforest that needs a variety of plants to stay healthy,” says Dr Bansal.

  • Probiotics are good live bacteria found in foods like yoghurt, kefir, and other fermented foods. They add helpful strains to your gut microbiome and support a healthy digestive system.
  • Prebiotics are foods that help good bacteria in your gut grow. They are found in fibre-rich foods like garlic, onions, bananas, asparagus, and oats. Eating these foods ensures that beneficial bacteria in your gut thrive.

When your gut microbiome is balanced and diverse, it helps you in many ways beyond just better digestion. A healthy microbiome improves how you absorb nutrients, speeds up recovery, reduces inflammation, and even boosts brain function. This balance distinguishes between just training hard and actually feeling energised and strong.

Doctor shares his daily habits for gut health

  • Post-workout nutrition: “After my workouts, I usually have a protein shake, sometimes adding fibre or seeds. This helps my muscles recover and gives extra nutrition to my gut,” shares Dr Bansal.
  • Fermented foods: “Every day, I make an effort to include different fermented foods in my meals. Foods like yoghurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut are important staples that add helpful probiotics to my diet”, he notes.
  • Fruits and vegetable: “I eat a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables that are high in prebiotic fibres. This variety gives my gut different types of nourishment, which helps keep my gut bacteria healthy and diverse,” he explains.

Besides this, he underlines the importance of listening to one’s body. Symptoms like bloating, fatigue, or discomfort are signs that I need to pay attention to my health. I often adjust my diet or routine based on these signals,” he adds.

Dr Bansal also does not ignore the connection between muscles, microbes, and mind. He sums up: “Protein shakes help me recover after workouts. They replace what I lose and give me the energy I need for intense exercise. Probiotics and prebiotics are important for my gut health. They help improve my overall well-being and support my mental clarity.”
