Are you eating sprouts the wrong way? Nutritionist explains how common mistakes can make this healthy snack unhealthy

Sprouts are often hailed as a superfood – tossed into salads or chaats, blended into smoothies, or eaten raw for their crunch and “clean” health appeal. Many believe that eating them uncooked preserves nutrients and boosts digestion. But is this popular health habit really as beneficial as it seems? Turns out, not quite!

Khushi Chhabra, a holistic health nutritionist and diabetes educator, explained why eating raw sprouts might not be as healthy as it seems – and why they’re best consumed cooked. In an Instagram video posted on October 4, the nutritionist breaks down why the craze for eating raw sprouts is more fad than fact, how it can impact your gut and digestion, and shares healthier ways to enjoy sprouts for maximum nutritional benefit.

How eating raw sprouts can be unhealthy

According to Khushi, “Sprouts are one of the most nutrient-dense foods because they have protein, fibre, and vitamins. But a lot of people get bloating, constipation, and gas when they eat raw sprouts.” She further mentions that sprouts are rich in fibre, enzymes, antioxidants, vitamin C, folate, and around three to four grams of protein per 100 grams. However, they are higher in carbohydrates than proteins – about 60 – 65% – hence, overeating is not ideal. She also explains, “Raw sprouts can cause bloating, gas, and even constipation because they’re hard to digest and may carry bacteria when eaten uncooked.”

What’s the right ways to eat sprouts

Khushi recommends steaming or lightly sauteing sprouts before eating them, as this breaks down tough fibres that are harder to digest. She suggests, “Add heating spices like ginger, black pepper, cumin, and rock salt as they help in digestion and keep your gut happy.” According to the nutritionist, practising portion control is key – about half to one cup is sufficient for most people to reap the benefits without overdoing it. Lastly, she advises pairing sprouts with pure protein sources like paneer, curd, or eggs to balance the meal.

Show Boss Explains Sarah’s Decision to Join ‘The Dark Side’ (Exclusive)

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The following post contains MAJOR spoilers for The Rainmaker Episode 8.]

Sarah Plankmore (Madison Iseman) had a choice to make on Friday’s (October 3) new episode of The Rainmaker. After being confronted with the truth about what her client did — covering up the murder of multiple patients by a nurse — Keeley (Hugh Quarshie) offered her an off-ramp from the case, and she steered right away from it. Instead, she embraced her place as the zealous advocate for the client, no matter how problematic he is or how consequential his ills, painting a new narrative for what he did.

Show creator Michael Seitzman calls their exchange one of his “favorite scenes of the whole season.”

“It’s incredibly dynamic. I mean, it’s her last temptation, right? Every step of the way, Sarah has been offered these offerings… Rudy offers her another one. He says, ‘You haven’t done anything illegal yet. Do the right thing.’ She keeps getting offered a way out. And so each one of these moments is a character-defining moment for her. What decision is she gonna make? And I think, for me, the character has to have those moments because she has to make a decision. She can’t be forced into anything. She can be cajoled and nudged and seduced, but she can’t be forced into it,” Seitzman told TV Insider.

“She has to be given these moments where she’s really offered a way out. And that scene with Keeley, what I love about it is that he’s all conscious in that scene. Here’s a guy who’s made some really big mistakes, but in that scene, you get a view of his real conscience, the man he would have been had he not made these decisions, the man he was. She sees it, too,” he continued. “And when he says, ‘I’m going to offer you something that nobody offered me,’ she doesn’t take it.. The scene ends as he says, ‘Are you going to be there?’ She says, ‘Of course, I’m your lawyer.’ Well, that’s as big a declaration as any she has in the whole season. She’s not just saying, ‘I am your lawyer.’ What she’s saying is, ‘I know what I’m doing right now, and what I’m doing is making a conscious choice to cross over the dark side.’”

Sarah isn’t the only one who had to make a big decision in the episode, either. Jackie Lemanczyk (Gemma-Leah Devereux) was also sprung from her storage facility prison by the private investigator hired by Leo Drummond (John Slattery) and had to decide whether to trust Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan) enough to testify in Dot Black’s court case and put herself back into public view after being imprisoned by Melvin Pritcher (Dan Fogler) for so long.

We’ll have to wait until next week’s episode to find out what’s next for Jackie, but if you’re wondering whether she would’ve died in Pritcher’s custody without her unexpected rescue, according to Seitzman, the answer is no.

“I thought about it a lot when we were working on it. I thought, ‘Why doesn’t he kill Jackie?’ And the answer is… in Episode 3, when he says, ‘I always admired you.’ There was something about it, that there’s something about that moment, both on the page and also the way Dan Fogler delivers it that felt so real,” he explained. “He liked her, and he admired her, and he’s trying to avoid killing her. You even see it in the moment in five when he’s interrogating her in the cabin before she escapes… When she says that she was on the tissue committee, and he says, ‘You were on the tissue committee?’ There’s something so innocent in the way he says it, like he’s both impressed and jealous at the same time.”

“I think the thing about Melvin is, he’s clearly a bad guy who does really bad things, but he doesn’t think he’s doing bad things,” Seitzman continued. “He thinks of himself as heroic. As twisted as it is, he thinks of himself as heroic. So you have these moments with him that are incredibly earnest. We never wanted the character to be mustache-twirly. We never wanted him to be a cold or overtly psychopathic killer. We wanted him to be the guy next door who’s the killer. The one who you see at the mailbox and say hello to, but little do you know, he’s done really terrible things.”

For what it’s worth, the actor portraying the character does think Jackie would’ve been a goner if not for her timely rescue. “Yeah, I think that he was tying up loose ends. I think that. But you know what? A little secret. I think he maybe had a thing for her. That’s why she lasted so long,” Fogler said. “It’s like he couldn’t bring himself to really hurt her.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Bruiser (Lana Parrilla) welcomed home her father, only to have him reclaim his seat at her throne — er, desk — and demand that they settle the case with Leo for $1 million. Instead, though, Rudy quit the firm and signed the client over to his solo care, and Bruiser sent Deck (P.J. Byrne) packing right alongside him. We also learned more about the woman who died in her dad’s care — or how Prince (Tommie Earl Jenkins) is involved — but the scenes of her leaning on Bruiser for help were heartrending to say the least.

Orthopaedic surgeon explains hidden link between sugar and knee pain for osteoarthritis patients

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

While sugar is widely known to have negative effects on overall health – from weight gain to increased risk of chronic diseases – its impact can be particularly severe for individuals with osteoarthritis. Excess sugar not only contributes to systemic inflammation but also directly worsens joint pain and stiffness, making everyday movement more difficult for patients.

Sugar consumption causes inflammation in the knees, making osteoarthritis pain even worse.(Pixabay)

Dr Mayank Daral, an orthopaedic surgeon and sports injury specialist, working as an assistant professor at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, is starting a conversation about the dangers of sugar consumption for patients of osteoarthritis and why cutting it down is essential.

In a conversation with Revant Himatsingka, popularly known as Food Pharmer on social media, in Episode 17 of Rethink India Podcast, the surgeon explains why sugar is extremely harmful, its role in aggravating pain and discomfort for individuals with osteoarthritis, and suggests healthier alternatives that can aid in joint formation.

Sugar aggravates joint pain

For individuals living with osteoarthritis, diet plays a vital role in managing symptoms and slowing the progression of the disease. Dr Mayank compares sugar consumption to pouring ghee in a fire – “sugar acts like ghee in a fire” – for osteoarthritis patients and significantly worsens the condition. He explains, “Sugar increases inflammation of the knees. And if someone eats sugar, it causes an insulin spike. So, no doubt, sugar should be avoided.” Knees are one of the most affected areas for osteoarthritis patients, and more inflammation due to sugar consumption, along with insulin spikes, further increases discomfort.

Alternatives for sugar

Instead of consuming sugary foods, Dr Mayank recommends switching to dry fruits. He emphasises the importance of adding dry fruits to your diet due to the presence of certain micronutrients that aid in joint formation.

He explains, “One should focus on dry fruits…because they contain many such micronutrients that help in joint formation – such as chondroitin, glucosamine, rosehip.”

These compounds have anti-inflammatory properties and provide relief from degenerative damage, and hence are used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, according to a study published on Mediators of Inflammation. The orthopaedist adds, “All these (nutrients) will really help a lot in joint health.”

Dermatologist explains why simply cutting out junk food does not cure acne, busts 5 common acne myths

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Acne is often thought of as a teenage problem, but the truth is more complex. Adult acne is increasingly common, and myths around what causes – or cures – it can make managing breakouts confusing.

According to Dr Waraich, acne is not just a teenage concern.(Unsplash)

Also Read | Dermatologist shares 5 harsh must-know truths about skincare and haircare: ‘Anti-ageing creams can’t lift sagging skin’

Dr Gurveen Waraich, a certified dermatologist specialising in clinical and cosmetic dermatology and skin care, is setting the record straight by debunking five common myths about acne. In an Instagram video posted on September 10, she unpacks common acne myths, highlighting its prevalence in adulthood and clarifying real triggers – such as makeup and diet – and what doesn’t cause breakouts.

Adults don’t get acne

According to Dr Waraich, acne is not just a teenage concern – many people encounter it for the first time in adulthood, even if their adolescent years were blemish-free. Many of her clients experience the onset of acne after 25, and she explains – “I am 35 years old. I never had acne in my teen years. Why am I getting it now? What you are suffering from is something called as adult onset acne which is actually seen post 25 years of age.”

Acne does not occur in dry skin

It is often believed that only people with oily skin experience acne breakouts. However, the dermatologist highlights that even though acne is more common in oily skin, it is not exclusive to it. She elaborates, “In fact, adult onset acne is seen in equal frequency for both oily and dry skin types.”

Eating clean cures acne

The dermatologist explains that cutting out junk food will not necessarily clear up your acne. She mentions that while some components in your diet like sugar or dairy might aggravate your breakouts – these are not the causative agents. Dr Waraich says, “What you eat is not the cause of your acne. Yes, it could be an aggravating factor like sugar and dairy, but not causative.”

Makeup cause acne

Makeup is often blamed as the culprit behind acne flare-ups. But Dr Waraich clarifies that makeup itself isn’t the cause – it’s failing to remove it properly that can worsen breakouts.

Acne is normal in teenage years

The dermatologist highlights that while acne is quite common in teenage years, it should not be treated as a norm and requires appropriate treatment. She advises, “No, acne is common in teenage, not normal. You must treat it to prevent permanent scarring.”

Is Donna Murphy Leaving ‘Brilliant Minds’? Boss Explains Muriel’s Decision, Talks Wolf and Josh Romance (Exclusive)

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 2 “The Contestant.”]

Brilliant Minds isn’t about to say goodbye to Donna Murphy, right?! Especially not so soon after Wolf’s (Zachary Quinto) father left? Muriel does step down as CMO in the latest episode, but she and Wolf also discuss that now she’ll just be his mom, not his boss. That should make for some good television since those two are so great in scenes together.

Also in “The Contestant,” Carol (Tamberla Perry) successfully fights for her job, helped by Muriel, saying she told her to keep treating Alison, the woman with whom her husband was having the affair. Plus, it looks like Wolf and Josh (Teddy Sears) will be getting back on track when they go out for drinks, but then the latter pulls away when the former kisses him. He can be his friend, but that’s it, for now. And a new flashforward reveals that Carol is at Wolf’s side when he signs himself into Amelia’s (Bellamy Young) Hudson Oaks psychiatric facility.

Below, showrunner Michael Grassi breaks down this episode, reveals if Donna Murphy is going anywhere, talks Wolf and Josh’s moment, offers more information about the flashforwards, and much more.

Muriel steps down as CMO. Is Donna still a series regular?

Michael Grassi: Donna is still very much a part of the show, and we’ll be seeing more of her very soon.

I feel like that means we’ll be getting a lot more of the mother-son relationship. But can she step away from the hospital when her son works there as much as she should?

Good question. So, we’ll definitely be seeing more of Muriel in the first half of the season and even later, but I think that relationship is going to shift a little. But I think we’ve seen so much growth in the Wolf-Muriel relationship, and I love Zach and Donna on screen together so much. Some of my favorite scenes are them. We’ve seen them grow, and we’ve seen Wolf appreciate everything his mother did and even though it might’ve been hard for him growing up the way his mother was, sometimes I think he sees that she was really trying to protect him and that it wasn’t even that she wanted to keep what dad did a secret, but it was what dad wanted and she was just trying to protect him in so many ways. And I think Wolf really sees that for the first time, and we see their relationship evolve, and you’re so right that post 202, we’re going to see a bit of a shift. It’s like, what does it look like when Muriel isn’t at Bronx General and when she catches up with her son? That new dynamic of just mother and not boss is something we haven’t gotten to see yet really on the show since he was a kid in the flashback. So, it’s going to be really fun.

When you said seeing the growth, I just thought about when he checked on her after hearing the end of her phone conversation. A moment like that at the beginning of the series almost would’ve been impossible to imagine.

Yeah, and I have to say, too, I love Tamberla and Donna together as well. That’s one of my favorite scenes in 202. I love it. It is just so good, and I love the mutual respect they have, and they have so much in common, but also, Wolf is their main thing in common. They also just love him so much, and he’s such a big part of their lives, so it’s just nice to see that connective tissue between them.

Yeah, then Muriel has that line that Wolf is going to need Carol, and the flashforward in this episode shows he does, with Carol by his side. So, are the flash forwards going to be a bit disjointed like that, where that one clearly took place before the premieres? Should we expect that, and then it’s going to be piecing it all together?

Correct. I think it’s going to be a bit of a puzzle that the audience is going to be putting together for sure. We’re going to see different parts of what those flashforwards are, jumping in time a little bit.

With these first two episodes, it’s easier to tell, but will there be moments where it’s questionable when something took place?

I don’t want to spoil it too much. You’ll see.

What can you say about the new CMO and that person’s dynamic with Oliver? He’s adjusting to someone who’s going to be his boss, who’s not his mom?

Yeah, I would say stay tuned.

The good news is Carol is back. First of all, thank you so much for the Carol and Josh scenes in this episode. They were great,

They’re so good together.

Pief Weyman/NBC

But there is now the question of who reported her, since it appears it wasn’t Alison. Can you confirm it wasn’t Alison? Because she could have reported her and still decided to speak up on her behalf.

I can confirm it wasn’t Alison. She went in and she told them that Carol saved her life and she meant it.

How is Carol going to go about trying to get that answer?

I think Carol’s going to be torn about the ethics of getting that answer. And is it something that she even should do because whoever reported her, was it their right to report her? So, I think we’re going to see Carol be tested a little bit throughout the season, and that question will loom and it will weigh on her. She has to be at work, and somebody around her reported her for this. We’re going to see how Dr. Carol Pierce navigates something like that as a psychiatrist, which is going to be great.

Is she going to be changing her approach to work at all because of what she just went through?

That’s something we’re going to continue to explore in Episode 203, which I’m so excited for you to see.

Oliver kisses Josh, trying to just get things back to where they were before Noah showed up. But I can’t help but think about Oliver not returning his “I’m falling for you” and you telling me that he would in his own unique way, which he hasn’t yet. So, does that play into where Oliver is when it comes to being ready to resume that relationship?

I think when Wolf kisses Josh in 202, it’s a bit of a moment where he’s trying to reset, but it’s also that he’s doing it in the wrong way because it’s like, “We haven’t even had the conversation, and you’re kissing me at drinks.” And Josh literally thought, “Oh, he’s asking me to drinks to be like, ‘Hey, I have to talk to you. My dad left again. It’s messed up.’” It’s just a little bit cart before the horse, and I think it’s just part of Wolf trying to cope with what happened, and it’s Josh being like, “Oh, this is messy.” And I think it further complicates things to be honest.

Josh says he can be his friend. Why did you want to slow them down, and what can you say about any hope for their romance after 202?

I think they had a bit of a quick start. I think they shot out of the can a little bit. I think they had that amazing kiss in Episode 107 last season, but it might’ve been premature. And I think ever since that kiss, they’ve been trying to navigate, “Who are we to each other? We clearly have feelings for each other. We also work together and disagree in a lot of stuff. And that’s really complicated.” And then Wolf did what he did in 113 because he was dealing with personal stuff and I think they have a lot to figure out and it’s going to be a ride between them. But I really do think that there’s love there and mutual respect, and I think we see that on screen between the two of them. I think Zach and Teddy are so good, and those are some of my favorite scenes. Their dynamic is going to shift in a big way very soon.

Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf, Teddy Sears as Dr. Josh Nichols — 'Brilliant Minds' Season 2 Episode 2 "The Contestant"

Pief Weyman/NBC

I might be getting a bit dark with this question, but Ericka (Ashleigh LaThrop) sleeps through her phone going off about the patient and Charlie (Brian Altemus) has that comment about taking it easy on the benzos. Did he dose her or is it just that he knows that she’s taking pills?

He knows that she’s taking pills. He saw her take pills.

So it was just that, we shouldn’t be wondering how far this guy’s going to go?

No, no, no, no, no. I love that you asked that though. That’s a whole other show. Maybe Season 3, maybe Season 3.

Are there any episodes coming up like the building collapse from Season 1?

We have some really dramatic cases this season. I’ll tease Episode 203 has an opening sequence that is one of my worst nightmares, and I think a lot of people’s worst nightmares. So I’m excited for people to see that. And we will have some bigger episodes this season for sure. And some unexpected events happen.

Young Thug Explains Why He Can’t Be Around Gunna After Jail

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Young Thug and Gunna have remained distanced since both reached plea deals in the YSL RICO case. Thug joined the It’s Up There Podcast on Monday (Sept. 29), where he explained why he can’t have Gunna around him anymore, while he wishes him the best in his career.

See latest videos, charts and news

“I’m not gonna be able to look at [Gunna] the same no matter what,” he said. “We can go get a trillion dollars together. I’m not gonna be able to look at you the way I looked at you before we went to jail. I love you to death. I know you love me. We love each other to death, but we just going our own ways.”

Thug continued: “I ain’t gonna be able to look at you the same, I’d feel like a fake n—a just having you around me because… I already look at you a certain type of way. And I got a right to. For the sake of your heart and your mind and the thought process you having now, go get your money, man, take care of your family and do what you need to do.”

Gunna reached an Alford plea in December 2022 to secure his release from jail, which saw him admit that YSL is a gang.

Thugger remained behind bars until reaching a plea deal in October 2024, and he hasn’t been in contact with his YSL protégé since coming home.

“It ain’t even no sense for you to try to be back cool with me because we gonna be around each other and it’s gonna be weird,” he said. “The dap-up gonna be different, everythin gon’ be different because I already look at it like a different situation. People think I’m bitter because I don’t want to be friends.”

Thug added: “I’ma be sitting around you and I’ma just cry. I’ma feel a certain type of way sitting around you because I know how I felt about you. I know what I did with you and for you. You know all the times we shared. We done cried together before… I’ma be around you in the future and be crying every God damn day… I’m over it.”

In the future, if Thug and Gunna happen to be in the same place, fans shouldn’t expect any sort of friendly embrace between the former collaborators, but there won’t be any disrespect either.

“If I be around [you] and be happy and pretend, I’mma just feel like a f— n—a,” he said. “I’mma feel like not a real person. I gotta be real, bruh.”

There’s no hard feelings for Thug with Gunna or anyone else who was arrested as part of the YSL RICO trial. “I still want you to eat, just not at my table,” Thug continued.

Young Thug explained how he never looked at his relationship with Gunna as a business deal since he was signed to YSL. “The only reason why I’m looking at it like some bullsh– is because you my brother,” he said. “On top of that, you my man, you my best friend.”

He took Gunna’s Alford plea as a betrayal and as if Gunna was putting his career ahead of their relationship outside of business.

Thug returned to the music scene with his UY SCUTI album on Friday (Sept. 26), which features assists from Future, Cardi B, Travis Scott, Mariah the Scientist, T.I., Ken Carson, Sexyy Red, Lil Baby and former foe YFN Lucci.

Listen to the full Thugger interview below. Talk about Gunna starts around the 19-minute mark.

Fitness coach explains what to do if you want to live past age 90: ‘Train your legs like your life depends on it’

Having strong legs is crucial for overall health. But did you know your leg strength can help increase life expectancy? In a September 27 Instagram video, fitness coach Dan Go spoke about the crucial connection between leg strength and longevity, explaining that developing leg muscles is the single most important action for extending lifespan and preserving brain health. Also read | Start your day with these 5 yoga asanas for strong legs

Fitness coach Dan Go highlighted the importance of leg strength for longevity and overall health. (Representative picture: Shutterstock)

Why strong legs matter

According to Dan, the thigh muscle mass inversely correlates with mortality, meaning that greater muscle in the legs substantially reduces the risk of early death. In the video he posted, Dan said: “The stronger your legs are, the longer you live. The single most important thing you can do to preserve your brain health, extend lifespan, and improve the quality of your life is strengthening and also adding muscle to your legs. While most people think the secret to living longer is in fancy supplements or fancy treatments or some futuristic breakthrough, it’s actually about not skipping leg day.”

Dan shared that strong legs function as the body’s foundation, supporting balance, preventing falls, and maintaining healthy brain and cardiovascular systems through regular movement. He said, “Your thigh muscle mass inversely correlates with mortality. This means the more muscle you carry in your legs, the lower your risk of dying early. People with stronger, larger leg muscles live longer and maintain higher levels of independence, especially as they age. This makes absolute sense because your legs are the foundation for your entire body. Strong legs don’t just help you walk, sprint, run, and jump. They help you maintain balance, prevent falls, and keeps your brain and cardiovascular systems healthy through movement.”

Simple exercises for building leg strength

Dan encouraged people to focus on consistency in simple exercises like squats and lunges, rather than complex training regimens, as the key to a longer, more independent life. According to Dan, “You don’t need to train like a powerlifter or bodybuilder or a professional athlete. Getting stronger in simple movements like the squat, the step up, the lunge, Romanian deadlifts, or even just like walking uphill make a massive difference over time. The absolute key is just inconsistency. So if you care about living longer, keeping your brain healthy, and living a life of energy and independence, especially as you get older. Never skip leg day.”

He wrote in his caption, “Want to live past 90? Train your legs like your life depends on it. Because it does. Research shows that thigh muscle mass inversely correlates with dying early. Stronger legs mean a longer life. Weaker legs predict nursing homes, falls, and dependence. My 70-year-old clients who squat regularly outperform sedentary 40-year-olds. You don’t need fancy equipment. Just squats, lunges, step-ups. Even walking uphill builds the muscle that keeps you independent. Strong legs support your brain, heart, and balance. They’re your insurance policy against ageing. Never skip leg day. Your 80-year-old self is counting on it.”

Miley Cyrus still owns the dress she wore on her first date with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, describing it as one of several “beautiful moments” she’s chosen to preserve from their relationship.

Miley Cyrus still has the dress she wore from her first date with ex-spouse Liam Hemsworth

The 32-year-old singer first met the 35-year-old actor in 2009 while filming The Last Song. Their relationship spanned a decade, including an engagement in 2012, a breakup in 2013, and a reconciliation in 2016. They married in December 2018, shortly after losing their Malibu home in the Woolsey Fire. The couple separated less than a year later, finalising their divorce in early 2020.

Despite their split, the Flowers hitmaker still wants to hold onto the keepsakes from the cherished moments they shared during their relationship.

She told Vogue: “I literally have a dress that I had on when I met my ex-husband, and then I have my dress that I wore on our first date. Along with letters and things that I really, I want to savor these kind of beautiful moments of my life.”

Cyrus made the comments while discussing her fashion archive, which she’s been organising into what she calls a “legacy rack”— a curated collection of looks from each era of her life.

She explained: “Everything I do in my life is a little bit intense, but it has to be holistic. And that’s why my eras, they’re not a costume, they’re actually like a metamorphosis or a true evolution for me personally.”

The pop star acknowledged the challenge of deciding which personal items to share publicly, given the high-profile nature of her relationship with the Marvel star.

She said: “Because these intimate moments have also been public moments, it’s a little bit tough to decide what piece I want to share and what I would ever allow to be seen.”
