Luke Wilson Joins Will Ferrell Netflix Golf Comedy

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

The Wilsons are halfway to a regular foursome.

Luke Wilson is joining Will Ferrell’s untitled Netflix golf comedy series, the streamer revealed on Friday. Wilson will play a pro golfer who has beaten Ferrell’s character for the tour championship twice.

Why does (most of) that sentence sound so familiar? Oh, right: Owen Wilson currently stars in a streaming comedy series, Apple TV+ show Stick, as a former pro golfer. Owen Wilson is Luke Wilson’s (three-years-older) big brother.

The Netflix series stars Ferrell as a fictional golf legend. Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro and Fortune Feimster have been previously announced as co-stars — not much more is known than that.

Perhaps surprisingly, the 10-episode Netflix golf comedy marks Ferrell’s first TV comedy series — you know, other than one very famous and long-running TV sketch-comedy series. The coming series marks the latest collaboration between former Saturday Night Live cast mates Shannon and Ferrell.

Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor executive produce the Netflix series for Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rian Johnson (the Knives Out movies), Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue are executive producers for T-Street. Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green and Andrew Guest also executive produce.

Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, who were credited as co-creators and executive producers when Netflix picked up the series in May 2024, have since departed over creative differences. Andy Campagna of Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy production company also departed.

Owen Wilson’s Stick has been renewed for a second season; the news was likely received to just mild golf claps among the online golfing community. Though Stick has received a generally warm welcome from critics, including The Hollywood Reporter’s Angie Han, it is less popular among those who actually play the game. Stick season one featured some basic errors that jumped off the screen to golfers.

The Apple TV+ show also features a character, Zero (Lilli Kay), who seems to grate on viewers — that almost certainly rings truer with older viewers.

“Zero, with their fluid pronouns and haughtily declared stances against meat and capitalism, never totally stops feeling like a Gen Z caricature,” Han wrote in her review.

Luke Wilson has a lot more game than Owen, who learned how to play just for Stick.

Luke Wilson is repped by WME.

Thamma Trailer Out! ‘Alok’ Ayushmann Khurrana Fights ‘Yakshasan’ Nawazuddin Siddiqui For His Love ‘Taraka’ Rashmika Mandanna Amid Bloodshed And Comedy- Watch

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

The trailer for Maddock Films’ magnum opus, Thamma, plunges us straight into a BLOODY world where love bleeds, legends awaken, and humour turns too relatable. Rashmika Mandanna’s Tadaka revives a thousand-year-old legend, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Yakshaashan makes a bone-chilling declaration, and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Alok finds himself with bloodshot eyes, no pulse, sunlight burning his skin. From there, the trailer explodes into a never-before-seen spectacle with VFX that can only be called LEGENDARY: beasts unleashed, moments of action and horror seamlessly balanced with Maddock Films’ signature comic timing. And at its heart lies a love story – bloody, wild, and unforgettable – making Thamma a complete entertainer that families can enjoy together this festive season.

Thamma Trailer Out

In addition to the trailer, Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films also revealed the visual identity of Maddock’s Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), giving fans their first look at the evolving cinematic world that began with Stree and now expands in a bigger, bloodier way with Thamma. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, Thamma blends horror, action, comedy, and romance into a cinematic experience unlike anything before.

With an ensemble cast including Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Faisal Malik, and Geeta Agrawal, the film promises a Diwali spectacle of epic proportions.

Dinesh Vijan On Thamma

Dinesh Vijan, founder of Maddock Films and producer of Thamma, says, “The Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe began with Stree and has grown with Bhediya and Munjya. With Thamma, we aimed to take the universe to its next stage – not just in terms of story, but also in terms of scale, ambition, and technology. For us, the goal has always been to draw inspiration from Indian folklore for our characters. It’s a forgotten Indian story we have revived. Today, with the reveal of the visual identity of the MHCU, we are committing to a long-term vision of telling Indian stories for Indian and global audiences.”

Ayushmann Khurrana On Thamma

Ayushmann Khurrana says, “Becoming a part of Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock horror-comedy universe is a thrilling step in my journey as an actor. This genre has always fascinated me because it pushes boundaries – it makes you laugh, scares you, and yet touches your heart. In Thamma, I play Alok – a man who never asked for the extraordinary, but is forced to confront it. He’s flawed, vulnerable, and ambitious, and suddenly, he’s carrying the weight of powers he doesn’t fully understand.”

He added, “What excites me most is that this film is an entertainer, one that families across generations can watch and enjoy together this Diwali. Under Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik’s vision, Aditya Sarpotdar’s storytelling, and with the brilliant energies of Rashmika, Nawaz bhai, and Paresh ji, we’ve built something that I believe will define the next chapter of Indian cinema’s horror-comedy space. And trust me, this trailer is just a glimpse of the madness you are going to see on screen. The universe is only getting bigger from here.”

Amar Kaushik On Thamma

Co-producer Amar Kaushik adds, “What excites me most about the MHCU is how we, in every film, add something new while staying rooted in India’s cultural DNA. Thamma is the first love story we have created in this universe, and who doesn’t love a love story? When audiences watch Thamma, they will see it has the right amount of horror, humour, and heart. Something that we at Maddock have always stood for. It is a total family entertainer that I am sure families will love watching this Diwali.”

Rashmika Mandanna On Thamma

Rashmika Mandanna, who has worked with Maddock Films before but, for the first time, will be seen as part of the MHCU. She said, “Thamma is a very special film for me because it brings together horror, comedy, folklore, and even a love story rooted in India. Playing Tadaka has been both challenging and exciting, as she’s an age-old legend brought to life anew. I’m thankful to Maddock Films for giving me this opportunity once again, and I’m really looking forward to everyone experiencing Thamma.”

Aditya Sarpotdar On Thamma

Aditya Sarpotdar, director, added, “With Munjya, we tapped into folklore to create a horror-comedy that felt rooted yet entertaining. Thamma takes the universe forward in an unexpected way – it’s scarier, funnier, and at its heart, a twisted love story. Being part of the MHCU is exciting because each film adds a new layer, and with Thamma, audiences will see just how wild this universe can get.”

The Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe already includes blockbusters like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya, and with Thamma, the universe grows bigger, bloodier, and bolder. With the new visual identity now revealed, fans can expect many more exciting chapters to come. So this October 21, watch Thamma in cinemas- Maddock Films’ most ambitious Horror-Comedy crossover yet.

Saoirse Ronan in a Very Dark Classroom Comedy

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Children learn some things at school, sure, but others they just collectively know from the moment they set foot in class — and one of them is how to immediately size up a teacher as friend or foe, authority or pushover. Sweetly earnest young Maria Spencer (Saoirse Ronan) is one of those unfortunate educators who, through no real fault of her own, has been placed in the latter column by her perceptive pre-teen students: She’s kind, dedicated and full of ideas, but can barely speak over the room, much less command it. A daringly discomfiting black comedy from Swedish director Jonatan Etzler, “Bad Apples” initially appears to be that rare classroom movie that courts more sympathy for adult than child — at least until Maria discovers her unlikely inner disciplinarian, and our allegiances ricochet all over the shop.

A Toronto premiere that has since opened San Sebastian’s New Directors competition (and will also compete at next month’s London Film Festival), “Bad Apples” has been picked up for release by Paramount’s indie-oriented Republic Pictures label, though it’s a trickier commercial proposition than outward appearances might suggest. Films that visit harm upon underage characters are never the surest of sells with general audiences; that goes double for films that invite us to wonder, at least fleetingly, if the kids had it coming. Still, at least one scene of malicious child endangerment in “Bad Apples” was met with raucous audience applause at its San Sebastian premiere — as good a sign as any that Etzler’s warped, needling and sometimes bitterly funny second feature (following his Swedish-language, Netflix-distributed 2023 debut “One More Time”) will find its own cult.

No one’s reservations about the film are likely to include Ronan, an actor still less than a decade away from her own days of playing thorny, complicated children — and who, on the heels of her gutsy turn in last year’s “The Outrun,” keeps demonstrating an impressive aversion to easy adult material. “Bad Apples” depends heavily on her naturally sympathetic sincerity as a performer: Any more resistible a screen presence wouldn’t carry us far through the list of eminently questionable decisions made by Maria in the course of a brazenly credibility-testing script by first-time feature writer Jess O’Kane, adapting a novel by Swedish writer Rasmus Lindgren.

Between that source and Etzler’s cool, jaundiced directorial eye, you can detect a certain deadpan Scandi sangfroid in proceedings, even if they’ve been relocated to a drab rural village in English cider country. There, surrounding apple orchards and clumps of fallen, rotting fruit furnish the film with a rather literal visual metaphor, to which Etzler returns a bit too often. Yet the real bad apple, or so it initially seems, is Danny (riveting newcomer Eddie Waller), a violent, near-feral 10-year-old whose loud, foul language and physical attacks on adults and children alike have made Maria’s class just about unmanageable. The school’s harried principal (Rakie Ayola) offers little support, while Danny’s single father Josh (Robert Emms) has more or less given up on him.

That leaves Maria to take matters into her own hands when the boy’s latest outburst lands meek would-be teacher’s pet Pauline (Nia Brown, another gifted first-timer) with a broken arm. Yet just as “Bad Apples” seems to shaping up as a tart satire of dysfunctional public education, Maria’s next move pulls focus away from the systemic and toward her own individual pathology — no one else is to blame, after all, for her first abducting Danny, then chaining him in her cellar, then saying nothing as the ensuing missing-person case drags on for months.

For those who don’t part ways with “Bad Apples” at this crucial point, the film has a good deal of acrid comic juice left, as Danny’s sudden victimization leaves room for other villains to emerge: Maria, for one, but also a fiercely self-interested PTA, and perhaps even Pauline, quite brilliantly played by Brown as equal parts Little Miss Sunshine and very bad seed.

When “Bad Apples” is centered on Maria and her increasingly panicked negotiations with these two small but complex antagonists — one perhaps less vicious than he appears, the other far more so — it’s queasily tense and unpredictable, with a whiff of real danger as to what they might do to each other, minus any real authority figure in the room. Ronan’s young co-stars meet her gradually emerging guile with artful about-faces of their own: It’s a testament to Waller’s genuinely unnerving presence that his later moments of calm always feel tautly conditional.

When in the realm of the grownups, however, “Bad Apples” plays broader, safer and altogether less believably, albeit not without stabs of cynical truth. Less honest and more suggestible than their children, adults tend to plump not for the fairest solution to a dilemma but the one that inconveniences the fewest among them — so the film ultimately says, though it requires an almighty number of procedural blind spots to reach that conclusion. Ultimately, this odd, wicked little amorality tale winds up siding with no one: The children are indeed the future, we’re left to conclude, but will they make it any better than the present?

“I’m fired?!” “You’re human… Uh oh, he’s going to learn some lessons… Lionsgate has debuted another new trailer for the comedy Good Fortune, written and directed by Aziz Ansari, directing his first film after eps of “Master of None”. This is hitting theaters in October soon if anyone wants to watch. A well-meaning but rather inept angel named “Gabriel” meddles with the lives of a struggling gig worker and a wealthy VC. He takes a liking to a simple gig worker named Arj who sometimes does tasks for the very wealthy Jeff. He makes them trade places to understand money won’t solve problems, but when it does solve Arj’s problems, he loses his wings and must join them down on Earth as their roommate. There’s likely a few third act twists where it’s not all okay, but you have to watch to find out. Keanu Reeves stars as the angel Gabriel, along with Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari, plus Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Stephen McKinley Henderson, too. This premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival – all of these quotes comes from reviews at the fest. So far, so good. This seems like it should be a fun comedy with this great cast making us laugh for a few hours.

Here’s the third official trailer for Aziz Ansari’s comedy Good Fortune, from Lionsgate’s YouTube:

Good Fortune Trailer

You can rewatch the teaser for Aziz Ansari’s comedy Good Fortune right here and the full trailer here.

Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) is a “budget guardian angel” named Gabriel. One day, he notices a man down on his luck (Aziz Ansari), who does odd jobs for a wealthy socialite named Jeff (Seth Rogen) who is a Venture Capitalist. Once the man falls asleep sitting in a booth at a Denny’s, he hits rock-bottom after subsequently having his car towed from their parking lot. Intervening in his plight, Gabriel tries to convince the man that being wealthy like Jeff would not solve his problems by swapping the two men’s lives. Failing at this demonstration as the man’s problems are solved by Jeff’s wealth, Gabriel loses his wings and is sent down to Earth to live among humans, while the man takes over Jeff’s body and livelihood. Gabriel then becomes roommates with the displaced Jeff, as all the good work he did as an angel begins to unravel around them.

Good Fortune is written and directed by Indian-American actor / comedian / producer / filmmaker Aziz Ansari, making his feature directorial debut with this, after directing episodes of his own series “Master of None” previously; he also wrote episodes of “Master of None” and the TV movie Dangerously Delicious, plus other comedy writing over the years. It’s produced by Aziz Ansari, Brady Fujikawa, Jon Humphrey, Anthony Katagas, David Koplan, and Alan Yang. Lionsgate will debut Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune movie in theaters nationwide starting on October 17th, 2025 later this fall. First impression? Look funny enough?

Steve Martin has been forced to cancel two dates of his comedy tour after contracting Covid hours before he was due on stage.

Steve Martin has been forced to cancel two dates of his comedy tour after contracting Covid hours before he was due on stage

The comedian, 80, and his long-time collaborator Martin Short, 75, had been scheduled to perform in Virginia Beach and Richmond over the weekend as part of their The Dukes of Funnytown! tour but Steve announced the cancellations in an Instagram post.

He said online: “Dear Virginia Beach and Richmond. Sadly, I have come down with Covid. I can’t possibly do the shows that you deserve.

“So Marty and I must cancel tonight and tomorrow.

“But we will return under better circumstances.”

The post was accompanied by a photo of a dog wearing Mickey Mouse ears.

Hours later, Steve shared another image – a test strip showing a positive Covid result alongside a negative flu result – with the caption: “Hey! No flu!”

Ticket holders will receive refunds for the cancelled performances, according to promoters.

Fans sent well wishes in the comments of Steve’s posts.

One wrote: “I hope you feel better very soon, Steve. Take extra care of you.”

Another said: “Please come back when you feel better. I’ve wanted to see you in person for over 40 years.”

Steve and Martin are next due to appear in Florida on 4 October – a rescheduled date from January, when Martin himself tested positive for Covid.

The tour is expected to continue with stops in Las Vegas, Boston, Pittsburgh and Austin, before concluding in Cleveland in April 2026.

Steve and Martin attended the Emmy Awards last Sunday with their Only Murders in the Building co-star Selena Gomez.

Now in its fifth season, the Hulu series continues to release weekly episodes.

The show received seven nominations at this year’s ceremony, including an acting nod for Martin, but did not win any awards.

Since its debut, it has been nominated 56 times, winning seven trophies.

The comedy features Steve, Martin and Selena as New York neighbours Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora – all amateur sleuths drawn into a succession of grisly murder investigations.

Season five introduces new guest stars Renée Zellweger, Keegan-Michael Key, Christoph Waltz and Logan Lerman.

The first three episodes premiered on 9 September, with subsequent instalments released every Tuesday.

Steve Martin Cancels Comedy Shows After Contracting COVID

Steve Martin has canceled two comedy tour stops over the weekend after contracting COVID, the Only Murders in the Building star shared on Instagram. He and co-star Martin Short were set to continue The Dukes of Funnytown! Tour.

“Dear Virginia Beach and Richmond. Sadly, I have come down with Covid. I can’t possibly do the shows that you deserve. So Marty and I must cancel tonight & tomorrow. But we will return under better circumstances.😔,” Martin wrote on Instagram yesterday alongside a photo of his pup looking weary.

In a separate joke post later, Martin shared an image of his COVID test results, saying, “Hey! No flu!”

The comedic duo and longtime collaborators’ next stop will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Florida Oct. 4, a rescheduled date from Jan. 11. Additional tour dates will occur in such locales as Las Vegas, Boston, Pittsburgh and Austin, concluding with a final stop in Cleveland in late April 2026.

Martin and Short were recently at the Emmys this past Sunday, after which they attended The Walt Disney Company’s Emmys bash, where they were pictured alongside Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden.

This is now the second time one of the veteran comics’ contraction of COVID has forced a tour cancellation or rescheduling. Earlier this year, it was Short who contracted COVID after attending the star-studded weekend-long celebration that was SNL50. “Maya [Rudolph] had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real,” Martin wrote on Instagram in February. As a result, The Dukes of Funnytown! moved its Tennessee and North Carolina stops to mid-October.

Martin and Short can currently be seen starring opposite Selena Gomez in Only Murders, the fifth season of which is currently releasing on Hulu weekly.

Vir Das Says Indian Comedy Faces Legal Threats, Not Just Online Backlash

Vir Das Says Indian Comedy Faces Legal Threats, Not Just Online Backlash

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor-comedian Vir Das is not one to mince words, especially when it comes to the contrasting realities of cancel culture in the West and in India. During a recent stand-up comedy performance, the outspoken comic offered a satirical, yet brutally honest take on how comedians are treated differently in each part of the world.

He shared a video snippet of this performance on his Instagram on Saturday, and it’s already getting people talking.

Vir Das on Cancel Culture: A Tale of Two Realities

From the moment Vir stepped on stage, he wasted no time in diving into the controversy. “Please don’t cancel me, I apologise! It would really interfere with my incarceration,” he joked to a laughing crowd. The irony wasn’t lost on anyone.

Referring to conversations with fellow comedians in the U.S., Vir mocked the typical Western outcry over cancel culture. He recounted a conversation with an American comic who dramatically lamented, “Vir, cancel culture is insane! The other day a mob came after me. A mob on Twitter!”

Das followed that up with a biting analogy, mocking the Western panic over online backlash compared to legal ramifications in India: “It’s like telling the freshly castrated that your balls itch.”

The audience roared with laughter, but Vir’s point was razor-sharp. He went on to critique an article he had read in a Western publication: “The most annoying article I ever read in the West is: Why doesn’t Indian comedy content push the envelope?” His response? “Really b**h? Because we looked inside the envelope! There are court cases inside the envelope. There is a court date on top of the envelope.”*

This wasn’t just hyperbole. For Das, the risks are not just about public opinion—they’re legal.

Legal Heat: The Cost of Pushing the Envelope in India

Vir Das is no stranger to controversy—or the courtroom. In 2021, he faced a police complaint and a wave of public outrage after a performance in the U.S. where he spoke about the “Two Indias” he comes from. The routine tackled hard-hitting issues such as women’s safety, Covid-19 mismanagement, environmental pollution, and the farmer protests. Critics accused him of insulting India, and legal trouble followed.

This wasn’t his first brush with legal challenges either. In 2020, his Netflix dark comedy series Hasmukh came under fire when a group of lawyers filed a legal notice against the show. Their claim? That episode four defamed and maligned the legal profession.

The message in his latest performance was clear: While Western comedians may fear social media outrage, Indian comics often face real, legal consequences for expressing dissent or satire.

And yet, Das continues to push boundaries.

His latest stand-up special, Fool Volume, was released on Netflix on July 18. The special has already garnered attention for its fearless take on politics, identity, and, of course, cancel culture. It’s a continuation of Vir’s brand—bold, unapologetic, and willing to take on the establishment, no matter the cost.

By drawing this East vs. West comparison, Vir isn’t just talking about comedy. He’s raising important questions about freedom of speech, censorship, and how societies deal with discomforting truths.

Amy Poehler Slams Oscars for Rejecting Comedy Movies

Amy Poehler Slams Oscars for Rejecting Comedy Movies

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Amy Poehler called out the Oscars on her “Good Hang” podcast for always ignoring comedy movies when it comes time to giving out awards. Poehler’s latest episode featured Olivia Colman as a guest as part of the latter’s press tour for the Searchlight Pictures comedy “The Roses.” Colman stars opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, who called in to the “Good Hang” episode to chat briefly with Poehler.

“If you can do comedy, you can do anything. I really do believe that,” Cumberbatch proclaimed.

“Of course. You don’t have to tell me, babe!” replied Poehler, who is a bonafide comedy icon thanks to “SNL,” “Parks and Recreation,” her stints hosting the Golden Globes with Tina Fey and more.

“Every single year at the Oscars, everybody [in comedy] gets blanked and all the serious people get up and accept and accept,” Poehler said. “It’s some hot bullshit! Because comedy is not easy. And I got to tell you, both you and Olivia can do both.”

While the Oscars have certainly been embracing more movies with comedic elements over the years, including best picture winners such as “Anora” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” it usually snubs traditional comedies that don’t have a dramatic bent to them. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” was a recent rare exception with eight nominations, but it did not win best picture and both Gerwig and star Margot Robbie were shockingly shut out of the best director and best actress races. Rian Johnson’s comedic “Knives Out” movies only got screenplay nominations, as did “Bridesmaids” all the way back at the 2012 Oscars.

As far as comedies in the upcoming 2025 Oscar race, the more dramatic-leaning ones such as Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia” and Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly” are once again dominating the early Oscar buzz conversations. Traditional comedies such as “Friendship,” “Good Fortune” and “The Naked Gun” all earned strong reviews but are most likely long shots. Johnson is back with his third “Knives Out” movie, “Wake Up Dead Man,” but whether this franchise can break out into major categories like best picture or acting races remains to be seen.

Watch Colman’s full appearance on the “Good Hang” podcast in the video below.

Why Is ‘The Bear’ Considered a Comedy? Its Emmys Category Explained – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

The Bear has invited countless viewers into the world of running a restaurant. For better or worse, each character of the show goes through their own emotional rides in their personal and work lives. So, why would such a dramatic series be considered a comedy at the Emmy Awards and other awards shows?

Hollywood Life breaks down the reason behind The Bear’s category, below.

Why Is ‘The Bear’ Considered a Comedy?

The show encompasses a wide variety of categories, as it’s widely considered to be a psychological comedy-drama. However, the show focuses on dark humor. Even with difficult topics such as mental health, breakups, abusive bosses, and more dramatic situations, The Bear implements enough dark humor to elicit some uncomfortable laughs out of its audience.

Take the season 1 finale, for example. Viewers have wondered how on earth that wild — and aggressive — scene could be considered funny. Ayo Edebiri‘s Sydney stabs Ebon Moss-Bachrach‘s Richie with a kitchen knife, and they get into a tense altercation. Meanwhile, Jeremy Allen White‘s Carmy screams over the cacophony of kitchen chaos while struggling to hold down the fort. Then, to make matters worse, Sydney quits.

By seasons 2 and 3, viewers have more backstories to unpack, from Carmy’s trauma to Sydney’s anxiety. However, the show manages to inject enough sarcasm, wit and irony to make it funny.

After fans watched Carmy unknowingly break his girlfriend Claire’s heart, the aftermath still has its humorous moments. Toward the end of season 3, Carmy is asked whether or not he thinks about Claire anymore, to which he nonchalantly responds that he thinks of her every day.

Come season 4 is even more drama! Between Carmy and Claire’s argument to his mother’s admission of abuse, viewers learned how much pain he’s been living with.

Who Is in ‘The Bear’ Cast?

Apart from Ayo, Jeremy and Ebon, the rest of The Bear cast includes Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliot, Matty Matheson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Edwin Lee Gibson, Oliver Platt. Molly Gordon and several others.
