“Selena was bigger than what she thought she was.” Netflix has revealed the trailer for a documentary film titled Selena y Los Dinos, made by filmmaker Isabel Castro as her second feature after Mija. This doc first premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and played at SXSW, Hot Docs, AFI Fest, and will be out to watch in November. Selena y Los Dinos celebrates the life and legacy of the Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla, who along with her family performed, triumphed, and redefined genres, captured in never-before-seen footage from the family’s personal archive. It’s also the tragic true story of what happened to her – she was shot and killed at the age of 23 by her friend and the former manager of her Selena Etc. boutiques. Her story has been told before: in 1997, Warner Bros made Selena starring a then-unknown Jennifer Lopez; and in 2020, Netflix released Selena: The Series starring Christian Serratos. This doc celebrates her life and successes above all. “Whether a lifelong fan or just discovering Selena, Castro offers an intimate new lens to experience Selena’s legacy and a reason to want to belt out ‘Como la Flor.'” Definitely looks like a good one.

Selena Quintanilla — best known as the “Queen of Tejano Music” — and her family band, Selena y Los Dinos, rose from performing at quinceañeras to selling out stadium tours. The celebration of her life and legacy is chronicled through never-before-seen footage found in the family’s personal archive. A heartfelt tribute to Selena Quintanilla that deftly captures the singer’s exuberance, humility, and the profound bond she shared with her family. Interviews with those close to her reveal the heart and sacrifice behind her rise to fame, while nostalgic home videos transport us back to the 1990s, offering never-before-seen glimpses into their lives on tour. The warmth of the home videos is like sitting with the Quintanillas and reliving their journey firsthand. Selena y Los Dinos is a documentary film directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Isabel Castro, director of Mija previously, and a few short films and other projects. Produced by Simran Singh, Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements, J. Daniel Torres, David Blackman. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Netflix will debut Isabel Castro’s Selena y Los Dinos doc film streaming on Netflix worldwide starting November 17th, 2025 coming soon. Anyone want to watch?
