50 Years of Rocky Horror

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

There was a stretch in 1990 when our Saturdays belonged to midnight showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. My friends and I would don our best bondage gear and join the long queue outside the Nuart Theatre in West Los Angeles, waiting in “anticipation” to belt out the cult musical’s songs while performing the perfectly choreographed moves passed down by generations of devotees. We shouted insults at the screen in unison with the rest of the audience. We left the theater buzzing, a little feral, and more than a little in love with Tim Curry’s Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Decades later, when a classmate in my library graduate program called me Magenta, I felt an instant kinship. That’s how it always is with Rocky Horror shadow casters.

This year marks The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s 50th anniversary, or “Transylversary,” and the film feels more culturally alive than ever. Celebrations are taking place worldwide, from special screenings to conventions featuring members of the original cast. Among the most coveted commemorations is Mick Rock Rocky Horror: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Cult Classic.

Mick Rock, in a still taken from SHOT! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra Of Rock, directed by Barnaby Clay.

The late Mick Rock, known as “the man who shot the ’70s,” immortalized David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and countless others with his lens, shaping their iconic images. Over his career, he published 20 books, hosted Ovation’s On the Record with Mick Rock, and was the subject of the 2016 documentary Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock.

Rock’s widely recognized talent went beyond the music world. Director Jim Sharman invited him to the Rocky Horror set, where he not only captured key moments but also photographed the cast in intimate, impromptu shoots. Those sessions, according to some actors, even helped them discover aspects of their characters. Just as Rock revealed the ineffable essence of his musician subjects, he did the same for the extraordinary individuals who made Rocky Horror timeless.

Those photos are collected in Mick Rock Rocky Horror, meticulously assembled by Rock’s widow, Pati, his partner of more than 40 years. “When you’re with an artist, especially a photographer, I’ve been a model, a costume designer, I’ve done the makeup on some guy in a band, I built his first website,” Pati says. “Mick was a lone ranger in a lot of ways. He had all that experience. He had an amazing eye. When he did a book, he had a vision for not just the photos but he could write. We collaborated on a lot of things over our relationship. I’ve been by his side for almost 20 books.”

The 258-page coffee table Mick Rock Rocky Horror has contents are so vibrant, it feels like they’re three-dimensional. There are posed shots, candid shots, playful ones that are clearly just between the characters and Rock, Curry’s images, in particular, seduce right off the page. There are also Polaroids, contact sheets—which Pati says are her favorite parts—and behind-the-scenes images that no matter how many times you see the film, you would never be able to imagine.

“Mick could be a little flippant—just a little bit—but he appreciated his time on the set,” says Pati. “I understand he grabbed people when he could and pulled them aside to take his special pictures of them that had nothing to do with a shot from the film. He would get Nell and Patricia together. He would get Tim and Nell just goofing around. He was paid nothing, but he would say, ‘Pati, I own the film. I own the pictures.’ He was very happy to be part of that. I think he was just thrilled to be there.”

These images first emerged in the 2005 German publication, Rocky Horror, which also included a poetic foreword by Richard O’Brien (he wrote the Rocky Horror musical stage show in 1973 and co-wrote the screenplay), and Rock’s own reflections, which take you into the heart of his experience of that time. These are interspersed with portraits of Queen, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, and Bowie.

What sets Mick Rock Rocky Horror apart are the sections devoted to each cast member, as well as director Jim Sharman, producers Lou Adler and Michael White, costume designer Sue Blane, and makeup artist Pierre La Roche. Exclusive 2024 interviews bring new insight, with Curry’s vivid recollections standing out. “Everyone was very generous,” says Pati, crediting writer Tim Mohr for contributing his own essay and compiling both new and archival interviews with Patricia Quinn (Magenta), Little Nell Campbell (Columbia), and Adler. “It was very special that they did that for me.”

The book also sprinkles in reflections from artists deeply influenced by Rocky Horror: Shepard Fairey, Peaches, Joan Jett, Courtney Love, and Billy Corgan—who notes, “Mick’s photography made beautiful work of the lost people, the set asides, and those who’d never have been models or on the covers of magazines; except when presented as freaks and nothing more”—and fashion designer John Varvatos, who observes, “It married theatricality to the danger of rock ’n roll. At the same time, it felt authentic throughout the story and wardrobe.”

Connected to the book’s publishing are two exhibitions in New York and in Los Angeles later this year. Says Pati, “You really develop an understanding, a real perspective, on the whole history of this movie that flopped and then was resurrected by a generation, and became this incredible cultural thing.”

Paul McCartney Performs “Help!” For the First Time in 35 Years: Watch

Sir Paul McCartney officially kicked off his first North American tour in three years with a pair of shows in California over the last few days. His Friday night gig at the Santa Barbra Bowl served as a warm-up of sorts, as he played an abbreviated setlist to a relatively intimate crowd. The tour — featuring its full 35-song setlist — continued on Monday night at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California. At both shows, McCartney kicked off the night by performing “Help!” — marking the first time he has played The Beatles song live in 35 years. He also appeared to play the song using the Höfner bass he was recently reunited with after 50 years.

Because McCartney’s Santa Barbara Bowl concert enforced a no-phone policy, the first live footage of “Help!” comes instead from his Acrisure Arena show. Watch the fan-shot video below, along with more highlights from the night and the full setlist.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Separate After 19 Years of Marriage

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are separating after 19 years of marriage, People reports.

The outlet confirmed the news on September 29, shortly after TMZ first reported the separation. TMZ also claims that the couple has been living apart since the beginning of the summer.

According to People’s source, the decision to split was not a mutual one. “[Nicole] didn’t want this,” the source said. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”

The same source added that Kidman’s sister, Antonia, “has been a rock and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another.”

Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, appeared to be one of the most solid couples in Hollywood, often showing up to support each other at awards ceremonies for their respective industries. Most recently, on May 8, Kidman attended the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards alongside Urban, who was honored with the ACM Triple Crown Award. While accepting the prestigious award on stage, Urban gave Kidman a sweet shout out: “My wife Nicole is here tonight, I love you, baby.”

A few weeks later, on June 20, they were spotted at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville, Tennessee. Then, on June 25, Kidman toasted the couple’s anniversary on social media. “Happy Anniversary Baby,” she wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of the two snuggling close. The pose is a familiar one, as they’re often photographed entwined. These two are not afraid of a little PDA.

Unlike many celebrity couples, they’ve also been incredibly frank about their intimate life. In a 2013 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, for example, Urban said he and Kidman mostly communicate via phone calls, save for a “maybe one cool kind of, you know, a year. One of those kinds of texts, yes, one of those ones with the accompanying photo,” he said. When pressed by DeGeneres, he clarified, “Nice sex texting.”

Cardiologist shares how he overcame years of knee pain with yoga, says he ‘can’t even remember which knee used to hurt’

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Whether caused by long commutes, poor posture, weight issues or sports injuries, knee pain has become an increasingly common complaint across all age groups. The discomfort can linger for years and affect quality of life. Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, cardiologist and founder of Narayana Health India, recently shared in a September 29 podcast with MyGov how yoga helped him overcome knee pain. (Also read: Cardiologist shares fastest way to burn dangerous visceral fat, reveals what happens in just 12 hours if you fast )

Dr Prasad shares how yoga alleviated his knee pain after years of discomfort. (Freepik)

How yoga helped Dr Prasad overcome knee pain

Explaining how it all began, Dr Prasad says, “I think about 55 or so I started getting knee pain and my wife kept telling me that you know I should start yoga. I’m not exaggerating. Maybe 2, 3 months of yoga, the pain completely disappeared.”

Reflecting on his recovery, he adds, “Today, if you ask me whether it was my right knee or left knee, I have forgotten. And after that, every alternative day, I do yoga. And I can tell you that today when I operate, sometimes we stand for a long time. I can see my assistants, who are my children’s age, they are taking a break, and I can continuously stand like a horse. So it’s a very, very powerful tool.”

Dr Prasad also recalls his younger days, saying, “As a young man, as a medical student, I used to be a bodybuilder, martial artist.” Despite his earlier fitness, knee pain still crept in later in life, but yoga proved to be the simple, effective solution he needed.

What research reveals

According to a 2018 study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychiatry, one-week integrated approach of yoga therapy (IAYT) significantly improved various physical and functional outcomes in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. Participants in the yoga group showed notable reductions in the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test time, improved handgrip strength, and enhanced knee flexion and extension, compared to the control group.

These findings suggest that yoga can be an effective, accessible, and cost-effective intervention for managing knee osteoarthritis symptoms.

Triptii Dimri Opens Up About Laila Majnu’s Box Office During Its Initial Release; Says, “Avinash Tiwary Had Been Here For 14 Years…”

written by jummy84

Triptii Dimri had made her lead debut with the now-cult classic Laila Majnu, a romantic saga that had a decent run during its initial theatrical release in 2018. Also, starring Avinash Tiwary as the male lead, the Sajid Ali directorial had received positive reviews; however, it performed decently at the box office.

Triptii Dimri On Laila Majnu’s Box Office Failure

Recently, the Bulbbul actress recalled the phase and expressed concern over co-star Avinash Tiwary, who had been in the industry longer than she had. “Laila Majnu will always remain a very special film for me. At that time we were not even famous, so there was no pressure. We would go to the homes of locals and eat there, and I felt deeply attached to Kashmir,” Triptii expresses.

She adds, “When the film did not do well, I felt very disappointed because we were back to zero. I had been around for at least two years, but Avinash Tiwary had been here for 14 years. Then we started giving auditions again.”

Despite its initial box office performance, Laila Majnu gained huge following, attracting cult status. In 2024, it witnessed a re-release and surpassed the lifetime collections of its original run. “I knew it would receive appreciation, because even today, eight years after its release, people still talk about it,” Dimri says.

Even today, Laila Majnu continues to be the top choice among romantic film lovers, especially for its tragic romantic plot, engaging narrative, impactful performances and deeply-moving soundtrack.

Keanu Reeves is still one of Hollywood’s most iconic leading men, and in 2025, he continues to surprise fans both on screen and off. After years of quietly dating artist Alexandra Grant, the two remain a steady presence together — and their rare red-carpet outings often spark interest. Recently, budding wedding rumors have followed the couple, though they’ve clarified they are not married.

This year, the Bill & Ted Face The Music star makes his Broadway debut in the revival of Waiting for Godot, starring opposite longtime friend Alex Winter. On the film front, he’s also appearing in the John Wick universe spin-off Ballerina and the upcoming supernatural comedy Good Fortune.

Onscreen, Keanu has paired up with some of the most gorgeous leading ladies in the industry, like Sandra Bullock, twice, in Speed and The Lake House, Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give, and Ali Wong in Always Be My Maybe. Offscreen, his track record is just as enviable. Take a look at the actor’s romantic history and the famous beauties he’s been linked to over the years below.

Keanu and Alexandra went public with their relationship in November 2019. The couple, who run a publishing house called X Artists’ Books together, have been close friends for decades, and have actually been dating “for years,” her friend, actress Jennifer Tilly, revealed in February 2020. Alexandra told British Vogue in March that “every single person I knew” called her when they saw her walk a red carpet with Keanu for the first time. Since then, they’ve hit plenty of events together, and she’s even traveled with him to Berlin while he films The Matrix 4.

Claire Forlani

Keanu and Meet Joe Black star Claire Forlani were linked from 2004 to 2006, and rumors even swirled that the two were engaged. Keanu, according to one report, popped the question to Claire by getting down on one knee in the middle of Wolfgang Puck’s Hollywood restaurant Cut. Unfortunately for shippers, that wasn’t true. He laughed off the engagement — and even romance — speculation in a 2006 interview with The New York Daily News, saying that he and Claire were “good friends.” Claire ended up marrying Scottish actor Dougray Scott and starting a family, as seen on her Instagram.

Jennifer Syme

Keanu began dating Lost Highway actress Jennifer Syme in 1998. The couple announced they were expecting their first child together the following year. Tragically, their daughter, Ava Reeves, was stillborn at eight months in January 2020, and they unfortunately ended their relationship after not being able to withstand the grief of losing their child. They remained on good terms, though. Shockingly, Jennifer died in April 2001 at the age of 28 after losing control of her car. She and Keanu had met up for lunch just one day prior.

Amanda de Cadenet

Keanu was linked to Amanda de Cadenet in the late 1990s, but according to The Word host, it didn’t last long. Oh — and it was messy. In her memoir, It’s Messy: Essays on Boys, Boobs and Badass Women, Amanda wrote, “We met when I was two months pregnant, 19 years old, and married to another man [John Taylor of Duran Duran]. Within minutes of first laying eyes on [Keanu], I remember thinking, ‘I wonder how many pregnant women have affairs?’ I was surprised by my strong attraction to a man I had just met.” However, Keanu, “a man with hardcore ethics,” didn’t ask her out on a date until after her divorce in 1997. They’ve remained good friends since.

Sofia Coppola

Keanu’s relationship with then-burgeoning director Sofia Coppola was short, but sweet. The couple met when Keanu starred in her father, Francis Ford Coppola‘s film Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1991. They briefly dated before splitting up the following year. Sofia would go on to marry fellow director Spike Jonze. After their divorce, she later married Phoenix lead singer Thomas Mars.

Winona Ryder

Keanu and Winona Ryder never really dated — but they could technically be married! Winona told EW in 2018 that their characters in Bram Stoker’s Dracula were wed by an actual priest. “We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married,” she joked in a joint interview with Keanu while promoting their romcom Destination Wedding. The best part? They said their vows on Valentine’s Day!

Paul McCartney Launches North American Tour with First Performance of “Help!” in 35 Years

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Paul McCartney is officially back.

The Beatles legend kicked off his 2025 North American tour as the latest leg of his “Get Back” run on Friday Night night (Sept. 26th) at the relatively intimate Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, California. The 4,562-capacity venue was sold out and a phone-free event. It served as the launch of his first US tour since 2022.

From the opening of the show, McCartney thrilled the audience with a mix of iconic hits, including “Help!” which marked its first performance since 1990. He proceeded to perform classics like “Got to Get You Into My Life” and “Let Me Roll It,” showcasing his deep catalog of Beatles, Wings, and solo work. His rendition of “Getting Better” was followed by the soulful “Let ‘Em In,” while the tender “My Valentine” provided a softer moment in the set. The Wings anthem “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five” had the crowd singing along before McCartney brought out The Beatles’ infectious “I’ve Just Seen a Face” and the timeless “Love Me Do.”

A nod to his quieter, more reflective side came with the haunting “Blackbird,” followed by the moving “Now and Then.” McCartney made sure to keep the Beatles spirit alive with fan favorites like “Lady Madonna,” “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” and the crowd-pleasing “Get Back.” The evening reached a peak with the soaring “Let It Be,” the explosive “Live and Let Die, and finally, “Hey Jude.”

McCartney’s 2025 tour picks up next week in Palm Desert, followed by shows in Des Moines, Tulsa, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Montreal and more, before closing out with a two-night stand at Chicago’s United Center in late November. Performing with McCartney on this tour is his longtime band: Paul “Wix” Wickens on keyboards, Brian Ray on bass and guitar, Rusty Anderson on guitar and Abe Laboriel Jr. on drums.

Sir Paul was most recently seen with a cameo in mockumentary sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. He also shows up on the movie’s companion album, with his appearance on a new version of Spinal Tap’s “Cups and Cakes” scoring our Song of the Week earlier this month.

Kate Middleton Embraces Her Inner Cowgirl For the First Time in 14 Years

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

While this hat is not exactly authentic rodeo fare, it marks the first time Kate Middleton has publicly donned a cowboy hat in quite some time: over 14 years to be exact. The last time the princess embraced the Western aesthetic this hard was during a visit to Canada in July 2011, when she was still the Duchess of Cambridge.

For two days in a row, Middleton went full cowgirl in a white cowboy hat and chocolate suede cowboy boots by the London brand R.Soles, going all-out for the Calgary Stampede in bootcut denim and a Western-inspired belt buckle. Prince William was right there with her, pairing a matching hat with his own cowboy boots, jeans, and a plaid button-up shirt.

Funny enough, Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album and Bella Hadid’s rodeo romance pushed the Western aesthetic to the forefront of trend cycles in 2024, while bootcut jeans are making a strong comeback at this very moment. All this to say, everything Kate Middleton wore in 2011 is completely relevant today, especially her chocolate suede boots.

We all know the Princess of Wales is a sustainable queen, so perhaps it’s time for her to dig these pieces out of her archives.

Yogurt Shop Murders Solved After 34 Years Thanks To DNA Testing

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Investigators believe they have finally solved the infamous and gruesome 1991 killings of four teenage girls an Austin frozen yogurt shop, known as “The Yogurt Shop Murders,” after 34 years.

On Friday, the Austin Police Department announced that it has identified suspect Robert Eugene Brashers through “a wide range of DNA testing.” Brashers, who has previously been linked to three other murders throughout the 1990s as well as the rape of a 14-year-old girl in 1997, died by suicide after a standoff with police over a separate alleged crime in 1999.

“Our team never gave up working this case. For almost 34 years they have worked tirelessly and remained committed to solving this case for the families of Jennifer Harbison, Sarah Harbison, Eliza Thomas, and Amy Ayers, all innocent lives taken senselessly and far too soon,” the police department wrote in its statement Friday, adding: “This remains an open and ongoing investigation.”

This is quite a breakthrough in the case, which gripped the nation and traumatized the city of Austin. The news comes just about a month after HBO rolled out a four-part docuseries shining a renewed light on the murders.

Over the course of four episodes, director Margaret Brown simultaneously unwound all the twists and turns of the 34-year-old cold case while also primarily focusing on the lasting trauma felt by the surviving family members who have tried to make peace with such an unimaginable loss.

In the documentary, and in an interview with Deadline in August, Austin detective Dan Jackson indicated that the police department may be on the path to a breakthrough thanks to advancements in DNA technology.

The lead involved a very small sample of DNA from a vaginal swab of one of the victims, which had remained unidentified until now. Y-STR tests performed on that small amount of DNA were instrumental in overturning the convictions against the prior suspects and did not match anyone known to have been at the crime scene, including investigators.

DNA testing technology has rapidly advanced since 1991, and Jackson alluded that he believed it could soon be possible to build a much more vivid DNA profile with the amount that they have left from that swab. At the time of the murders, that would not have even been fathomable.

“We’re cautiously optimistic about what we can do,” Jackson told Deadline at the time.

Manhattan Theater Club Names First New Artistic Director in 53 Years

by jummy84 September 25, 2025
written by jummy84

New York’s venerable Manhattan Theatre Club has selected Associate Artistic Director Nicki Hunter to take over as Artistic Director when Lynne Meadow steps aside on December 1. Meadow has held the position of Artistic Director at the nonprofit theater for 53 years.

Hunter’s appointment was announced Thursday by MTC’s Board of Directors. Meadow, as previously announced, will assume a new role as Artistic Advisor.

Hunter first joined MTC in 2009 as an intern. In the 16 years since, she has held several key positions, including Artistic Associate, Line Producer and Artistic Producer before being promoted to Associate Artistic Director.

“I’m elated and deeply honored to be stepping into the role of Artistic Director of MTC,” said Hunter. “I’m inspired by the unparalleled body of work Lynne Meadow has created for the last 53 years as Artistic Director. She is a titan in our industry. I look forward to building on the theatre’s legacy to see it through to a successful and bold new era, working together with Chris Jennings, our Board of Directors and the theatre’s dedicated staff.”

During her five-decade tenure at MTC, Meadow has guided acclaimed shows by such playwrights as Christopher Durang, John Guare, Beth Henley, Terrence McNally, Eureka Day‘s Jonathan Spector and many others. MTC produces both Broadway and Off Broadway productions. The company’s current Broadway staging is Punch by James Graham, in previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater.

“I am thrilled that Nicki Hunter has been chosen to be my successor,” said Meadow. “I believe that she has the skills, talent and vision to lead us into an exciting new era and to create a vibrant repertoire for our three theatres. I have treasured 16 years of working closely with her and have been consistently impressed by her ability to identify talent, by her gifted producing instincts, and by her passion for new ideas.”

The search for MTC’s new Artistic Director was conducted by Diane Carlyle Executive Search, a firm specializing in nonprofit arts leadership.
