Freaky Teaser Trailer for Horror Film ‘Dolly’ About a Monstrous Figure

“Whatchu think – you can just do whatever you want now?!” Blue Finch Films has unveiled the first look teaser trailer for a scary, unsettling new horror film playing at genre festivals this year. From director Rod Blackhurst (of Blood for Dust), Dolly is a freaky horror film about a “monstrous figure” that is screening at both Fantastic Fest & the Sitges Film Festival this fall. A young woman, Macy, fights for survival after being abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise Macy as their child. A daring blend of New French Extremity and 1970s American horror. This “chilling folk-horor tale” features Fabianne Therese, Seann William Scott, Ethan Suplee, Kate Cobb, and the “transmasc wrestler” Max the Impaler. FF adds this juicy tidbit: “Nothing is ever quite as it seems, except of course for the absolutely goopy practical effects in this lo-fi throwback to the isolated murder families of The Hills Have Eyes and the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Director Rod Blackhurst combines his clear inspiration with a uniquely demented point of view, building on his previous work.” Sounds gnarly! And the footage is just as frightening & weird.

Here’s the first teaser trailer for Rod Blackhurst’s horror film Dolly, direct from YouTube:

Dolly Horror Teaser

Dolly Horror Teaser

From Fantastic Fest: “Chase and Macy drop off Chase’s daughter, Evy, and then hike to a nearby overlook where he plans to propose. Those plans are soon forgotten when they discover a weird ‘art installation’ of many dirty, broken dolls. Unfortunately the dolls are actually more of an altar to the victims of Dolly—a violent, hulking, child-like person in a tattered dress and a porcelain doll mask—who arrives to bury the decapitated corpse of their latest plaything. While they have little interest in Chase outside of violence, Macy catches their eye and is taken home to become their newest doll. With the help of a voice in the walls, Macy quickly realizes she must navigate her captor’s delusions and family trauma to have any hope of surviving the nightmare and the filthy house she finds herself in. Of course that means playing her role of a doll—including diaper changes and feedings—until she can find the right moment to make her move.” 🎀

Dolly is directed by American filmmaker Rod Blackhurst, director of the films Here Alone, Amanda Knox, Blood for Dust, and The Tennessee 11 previously, plus many short films & other projects. The screenplay is written by Brandon Weavil and Rod Blackhurst. Produced by Joseph C. Grano, Noah Lang, Bryce McGuire, Ross O’Connor, Esteban Sanchez, Isaiah Smallman, Betty Tong, and Rod Blackhurst. The film is premiering soon at Fantastic Fest 2025 in Austin, TX later this month and also at the Sitges Film Festival after that. No other release dates are set yet – stay tuned for more updates on this movie. Who wants to watch this horror?

“What exactly do you do for a living?” He makes movies! Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced that they’re releasing a brand new Blu-ray box set this fall. It’s called the Luc Besson 9-Film Collection, featuring for HD copies of the first 9 movies made by French filmmaker Luc Besson. All nine are on Blu-ray though only 6 of the films are 4K Ultra HD. Many of these are bonafide classics – The Fifth Element is one of my all-time favorites! Though I have to say, after these first nine I think his filmmaking took a downward turn and he hasn’t made anything as incredible on this level again since 2005. The 9-film collection includes Luc Besson’s: Le Dernier Combat, Subway, The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita, Atlantis, Léon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, and Angel-A. Many of his movies from this era were either sci-fi or fantastical or over-the-top with an action thriller premise. “Be one of the first to bring home this one-of-a-kind gift set honoring the visionary French filmmaker, Luc Besson. Including 9 of his most celebrated works, don’t miss out on this must-own collection.” Sony also cut a trailer feature footage from these 9 movies and you know what – it is an thrilling recap. Take a look below.

The Luc Besson 9-Film Collection

Explore 9 of his films within the limited edition Luc Besson 9-Movie Collection (1983 – 2005). Each film is presented in high def, with six films also presented in full 4K resolution! The nine films in the Luc Besson Collection include Le Dernier Combat (1983), Subway (1985), The Big Blue 🐬 (1988), La Femme Nikita (1990), Atlantis (1991), Léon: The Professional (1994), The Fifth Element (1997), The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999), and Angel-A (2005)—with many films making their long-awaited high-def disc debut and including several new 4K restorations! Packaged within a coffee table-worthy sleek outer box that opens to showcase the films inside, the set also includes hours of in-depth looks behind the scenes, new cast and crew interviews and more!” Sony Pictures’ Luc Besson 9-Film Collection Blu-ray box set will be out on November 11th, 2025. Busan Competition Film ‘Spying Stars’ Debuts First Trailer

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

The first trailer for “Spying Stars,” the latest feature from acclaimed Sri Lankan filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara, has been unveiled ahead of its world premiere in competition at the 30th Busan International Film Festival.

The sci-fi drama, a France/India/Sri Lanka co-production, follows scientist Anandi as she visits Hanuman Island to perform last rites for her father. Set in a dystopian future plagued by “Illvibe” — a pandemic caused by machine dominance — Anandi finds herself quarantined in a remote hotel where a mysterious star begins following her. She eventually escapes and seeks refuge with a mother and her transgender daughter.

“I chose to construct ‘Illvibe,’ a disease of the future that finds its origins in technology and devices to narrate a film of loss and mourning, an existential common experience of all mankind of today and in future,” Jayasundara says in his director’s statement.

The film stars Indira Tiwari, Hidaayath Hazeer, Saumya Liyanage, Samanalee Fonseka, Shreepura Mithra, and Kaushalya Fernando. Eeshit Narain serves as director of photography, with music by Alokananda Dasgupta.

Jayasundara has established himself as a major voice in international cinema, notably winning the Caméra d’Or at Cannes for his debut feature “The Forsaken Land” (2004). His subsequent films including “Between Two Worlds” (2009) have screened at prestigious festivals including Cannes, Venice, Locarno, and Toronto.

“‘Spying Stars’ is a liberation film that is spiritual in nature,” the director explains. “It asks one question: in a time of pervasive voyeurism and technological control, how do we retain our humanity?”

The film is presented by House on Fire, Eleenora Images, and Film Council Production, with world sales handled by Bangkok-based Diversion. BIFF runs September 17-26.

Charlie Hunnam Is Nightmarish in Full Trailer

Charlie Hunnam Is Nightmarish in Full Trailer

by jummy84 September 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Charlie Hunnam has fully transformed into a monster in the full trailer for Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

Hunnam plays the haunting serial killer in the third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan‘s Netflix horror anthology series, and the official and full trailer (below) lives up to the streamer hyping this season as the most harrowing yet in the Monster franchise. All episodes release Oct. 3.

Gein’s horrific legacy inspired Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs, becoming the “blueprint for modern horror.” The first footage had explored Gein’s house-of-horrors home being investigated by police who were so disturbed, they could barely go through what they found, and ended with a haunting conversation between Gein and his mother, who is played by Laurie Metcalf.

The official trailer now exposes Gein’s nightmarish proclivities, as he is seen committing several murders and literally trying on (and dancing around in) the skins of his victims. Hunnam also reveals the mannerisms and voice he took on to play Gein, which he previously spoke about when discussing his research for the part.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story follows the first two Monster seasons, The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and the Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, respectively. Each cycle of the franchise tackles a different true-crime story, following the massive success of the series’ 2022 debut.

Gein is the serial murderer and body snatcher often referred to as “the Butcher of Plainfield” who gained notoriety in the 1950s for his crimes. The logline explains that “driven by isolation, psychosis and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades.”

The cast for Monster: The Ed Gein Story also includes Tom Hollander (as Alfred Hitchcock) and Suzanna Son, with Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill and Robin Weigert.

Executive producers include co-creators Murphy and Brennan, along with Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin and Hunnam. Brennan and Max Winkler are directors on the series.

Featuring puppets and creatures galore, it’s considered a favorite with many movie geeks who grew up in the 80s. This screening is part of The Jim Henson Company’s 70th Anniversary celebration and features an introduction from Brian Henson, Jim Henson’s son & Chairman of the Board of The Henson Company. The Dark Crystal originally opened in 1982 and celebrated its 40th Anniversary back in 2022 (it’s out on 4K Blu-ray). Jen and Kira, surviving members of the Gelfling tribe, set out to find the crystal’s missing shard and begin a dangerous journey that will bring them face to face with evil Skeksis and mysterious creatures at every turn. Jen and Kira will not back down as they race the clock to save their planet in this masterful live-action fantasy starring some of the most imaginative creatures ever put on film. Starring Stephen Garlick, Lisa Maxwell, Billie Whitelaw, & Percy Edwards. After waiting decades, they finally made a new legacy sequel The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance which is also available on Netflix now. The OG 1982 classic will be back in theaters for two nights only this October – take the kids! Have fun.

Another world, another time… in the age of Wonder. From genius filmmaker Jim Henson comes The Dark Crystal, a masterful live-action fantasy starring some of the most imaginative creatures ever put on film. Many years ago, the mysterious “Crystal” was cracked and an age of chaos began, led by the evil race of Skeksis who rule over the land of Thra. Meanwhile, raised in solitude by a gentle race of creatures called the Mystics, the Gelfling orphan Jen is sent on a quest to find the missing shard that will heal the Crystal and restore balance to the universe. The Dark Crystal is co-directed by two Henson Company filmmakers Jim Henson & Frank Oz, their third feature film at the time following The Muppet Movie (1979) and The Great Muppet Caper (1981). The screenplay is written by David Odell; from a story by Henson. Produced by Jim Henson & Gary Kurtz. Originally released by Universal Pictures in US theaters starting in December 1982 – earning just about $40M in its original run. Fathom Entertainment will re-release The Dark Crystal back in US theaters for two nights only: on October 12th & 13th, 2025 coming up this fall. Who’s going?

Scary Full Trailer for ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ with Charlie Hunnam

“You’re the one who can’t look away…” Netflix has revealed the full official trailer for the scary new horror series titled Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s ongoing “Monster” series for Netflix. This time they’re focusing on the infamous, iconic serial killer known as Ed Gein, the basis for Hitchcock’s Psycho and Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre (and many other horror stories). This is a fictionalized version of his real story, embellished to make into a Netflix series, not a true crime doc – starring Charlie Hunnam as Eddie Gein. Hunnam adds: “This is going to be the really human, tender, unflinching, no-holds-barred exploration of who Ed was and what he did. But who he was being at the center of it, rather than what he did.” Murphy adds: “The thesis of every season is: are monsters born or are they made? I think in Ed’s case, it’s probably a little of both.” Monster: The Ed Gein Story tells the story of how one simple man in Plainfield, WI became history’s most singular ghoul. He revealed to the world the most horrific truth of all: monsters aren’t born, they’re made… by us. Also stars Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, & Suzanna Son. Plus: Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, Robin Weigert. This looks freaky! Hunnam looks quite scary…

Here’s the two trailers (+ posters) for Netflix’s horror series Monster: The Ed Gein Story, via YouTube:

Monster: The Ed Gein Story Poster

Monster: The Ed Gein Story Poster

“You’re the one that can’t look away.” Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 50s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein (starring Charlie Hunnam) lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare. Driven by isolation, psychosis & an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Ed’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades. From Psycho to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre — he became the blueprint for modern horror. Monster: The Ed Gein Story (and the on-going “Monster” series) is created by storytellers Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan (“Glee”, “Scream Queens”, “Hollywood”, “The Politician”, “Ratched”, “The Watcher”). With episodes written and directed by Ian Brennan; and other episodes directed by filmmaker Max Winkler. Exec produced by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin, Charlie Hunnam. Netflix will debut Monster: The Ed Gein Story series streaming on Netflix starting on October 3rd, 2025 coming up.

“Songwriting’s a funny thing… it’s about searching for something, something that’s gonna give you life a little bit of meaning.” 🎸 20th Century Studios has unveiled the second trailer for the movie Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, a look back at the early days of rock superstar Bruce Springsteen in the 1980s. This highly anticipated rock ‘n roll musical biopic celebration will hit theaters nationwide starting in October. It just premiered at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival to mostly positive reviews so far. Inspired by the book of the same name, it follows Bruce Springsteen’s journey in creating and recording his 1982 album “Nebraska” in his Jersey bedroom, which emerged just as he was recording “Born in the USA” with the E Street Band. The film stars Jeremy Allen White as “The Boss”, Mr. Springsteen, and is written & directed by Scott Cooper. Also with Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s long-time confidant & manager, Jon Landau; Paul Walter Hauser as guitar tech Mike Batlan; Stephen Graham as Bruce’s father, Doug; Odessa Young as his love interest, Faye; Gaby Hoffman as Springsteen’s mom, Adele; Marc Maron as Chuck Plotkin; and David Krumholtz as record exec Al Teller. He’s not going to look & sound exactly like the real Bruce. I think the quote at the end sums it up nicely: “Don’t need to be perfect… I just want it to feel right.”

Here’s the second trailer for Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, from YouTube:

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere Trailer

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere Trailer

You can rewatch the first trailer for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere right here for more footage.

Made by 20th Century Studios, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 “Nebraska” album when he was a young musician on the cusp of global superstardom (starring Jeremy Allen White as The Boss), struggling to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past. Taped on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom, the album marked a pivotal time in his life & is considered one of his most enduring works—a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe. Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Scott Cooper, director of the films Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace, Black Mass, Hostiles, Antlers, and The Pale Blue Eye previously. The screenplay is also written by Scott Cooper, based on the book “Deliver Me from Nowhere” by Warren Zanes. It’s produced by Cooper, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Eric Robinson and Scott Stuber. 20th Century Studios will release Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere film in theaters nationwide starting on October 24th, 2025 this fall. Tender New Trailer for ‘Jimpa’ LGBTQ+ Film Featuring John Lithgow

by Alex Billington

“I understand the need to find yourself, find your family… I simply said: Frances, this is your grandpa, Jim. But he thought grandpa sounded too old so he gave himself a new name: Jimpa.” Kismet down in Australia has unveiled the first official trailer for a lovely film about family called Jimpa, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It’s the newest film made by the Australian filmmaker Sophie Hyde (following Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) and has no US release set yet. Jimpa will have its Australian premiere as the Opening Night film at this year’s Adelaide Film Festival in October. Hannah and her non-binary teenager Frances visits her gay grandfather Jimpa living in Amsterdam. Frances expresses a desire to stay with their grandfather for a year, challenging Hannah’s parenting beliefs and forcing her to confront past issues. Starring John Lithgow as Jimpa, Olivia Colman as Hannah, Aud Mason-Hyde as Frances, with Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Kate Box, and Daniel Henshall. “With warmth, humour and joy, Jimpa reminds us that, in every family, there are stories that don’t add up.” I’m very happy to be quoted in this trailer from my Sundance review. I still think it is a wonderfully warm, tender, worthwhile film… Enjoy.

Here’s the first official Australian trailer for Sophie Hyde’s film Jimpa, direct from Kismet’s YouTube:

Jimpa Trailer

Jimpa Trailer

Jimpa is an uplifting multi-generational family story starring favourites Olivia Colman & John Lithgow. Hannah (Colman) travels to vibrant Amsterdam with her non-binary teen, Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde), to reconnect with her politically-engaged, gay father—affectionately known as “Jimpa” (Lithgow). Frances is besotted with Jimpa and announces they wish to stay with him for a year – to Hannah’s apprehension. Jimpa is fiercely independent, so it is a shock when his declining health is revealed, upending Frances’ plans and bringing Hannah’s sister in from the UK. As the siblings negotiate what happens next, Hannah must confront her past & stories she has told about her family. Jimpa is directed by acclaimed Australian filmmaker Sophie Hyde, director of the films 52 Tuesdays, Animals, and Good Luck to You, Leo Grande previously, plus many other short films. The screenplay is written by Sophie Hyde and Matthew Cormack. Produced by Liam Heyen, Bryan Mason, Marleen Slot, Sophie Hyde. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (read our review). The film opens first in Australia coming up after playing at the 2025 Adelaide Film Festival. No US release is set – expected in early 2026. Who’s interested?
