Miley Cyrus Takes the Plunge Into Power Suiting

by jummy84 October 26, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s no wonder Cyrus finds kinship in the vision of Mugler’s creative director Miguel Castro Freitas: the spring 2026 show saw Freitas articulate his own take on the house’s precise, exacting lexicon. There were those iconic hourglass silhouettes and va-va-voom corsets, but also pin sharp pants and couture-level draping, and some quite fabulous feather and jewel moments. Cyrus opted for the more simple—but still powerfully chic—look 15 from the collection.

The Miley Cyrus compendium for personal style is maximalist but refined, with ’70s inflected aesthetics and modern, sexy twists by way of strong-shouldered Saint Laurent jackets and suiting, Alaïa gowns, and lots of leather. There is an enduring punk rock persona too, with some more subversive, feminine details. She spans that darker, nipped in femme fatale that Mugler does so well, while also looking to more avant-garde looks of Alexander McQueen. Cyrus can’t resist exploring the Mugler archives too, especially for onstage outfits.

Power suiting, of course, continues to be a defining fall trend, enjoyed by everyone from Demi Moore in Saint Laurent and tailored Thom Browne to Julia Roberts in Versace and Victoria Beckham in her own designs. Not brave enough for the power suit plunge a la Miley? There’s plenty of other options to incorporate into your fall wardrobe.

Carmen Staaf’s New LP Takes on Williams and Monk » PopMatters

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

Pianist Carmen Staaf came galloping onto the jazz scene through her work with drummer Allison Miller in their Science Fair (2018) and in a set of duets, Nearness (2022). If you are playing a percussion instrument (which the piano is, after all) and keeping up with Allison Miller, you are exceptional. Staaf‘s new album is both an interesting thinkpiece and a lovely jazz recording. It is subtitled “Conversations on the Music of Mary Lou Williams and Thelonious Monk” and was inspired by the friendship of these two composers and pianists.

Due to the longstanding sexism in jazz, we tend to think of Monk as more important and influential than Williams, but this is untrue. She was a well-formed jazz musician before Monk came up in the 1940s, and she was a mentor to him and to other young beboppers. It is well documented that the main melodic element of Monk’s “Hackensack” actually came from Williams, that he shared his early music with her at salons she hosted for him and other up-and-coming players like Bud Powell, and that she acted as an advocate for Monk’s art. Monk casts a long shadow in the art form, but a good part of that shadow belongs to Mary Lou Williams.

Particularly, Williams was one of the links connecting Monk back to the early stride and swing pianists. His innovations may have been a factor in her continued growth as a writer and player well into her 60s. It was a complex friendship.

Carmen Staaf’s Sounding Line makes some interesting sonic arguments about this relationship. She presents three Mary Lou Williams tunes and two Monk tunes in alternation, followed by two originals. Five performances are duets, and two feature a quartet consisting of a trumpet/clarinet front line backed by her piano and drummer Hamir Atwal. All the recordings, made without a bass player, are more transparent or even “naked” than typical mainstream jazz. The compositions are laid bare to a significant extent.

I love how Staaf has juxtaposed Williams’ “Libra” with Monk’s “Monk’s Mood”. “Libra” is a duet with clarinetist Ben Goldberg, a searching, slow-midtempo melody that is both melancholy and stately. The pair plays it with languor, showing off the unusual harmonic structure and letting the clarinet take only a brief solo before the theme returns, lazily, subtly. The Monk tune that follows—a duet with vibraphonist Dillon Vado—also sneaks up on us.

For a couple of minutes, the musicians play a moody introduction: Vado uses his instrument’s rarely explored ability to play for a long time. These sustained notes make it sound like a synthesizer, while Staaf abstracts Monk’s harmonies into blue patterns and arpeggios. When the familiar melody finally arrives, we realize they have been teasing it all along, but in shades and slivers. Together, the performances suggest that both composers were drawn to mysterious harmonic patterns that strayed from the Tin Pan Alley norm and unique melodies.

The Williams tune “Scorpio” runs into Monk’s “Bye-Ya” in a similar way. The former finds Staaf playing a craggy, interval-leaping left-hand bass figure as trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire brings in melody. The two musicians percolate against each other, improvising, before a more particular melody joins them in careful counterpoint. In a third “movement” of the performance, Staaf’s left hand suggests an old cowboy song, a sad shade to underlie the trumpeter’s expressive playing. The Monk tune is a duet with percussionist John Santos on bongos, with another leaping bass part essential as the drums tap dance and play counterpoint to a melody that is a symphony for wild intervals.

It is no surprise, then, when Staaf’s first original, “Boiling Point”, uses a left-hand piano bass line that jumps around with lively energy. It seems to flow nicely from the prior track, Williams’ “KoolBonga”, a blues arranged with the bass line itself (played by bass clarinet and muted trumpet) being the melody. Goldberg’s clarinet and trumpeter Darren Johnston outline the “Boiling Point” melody, harmonizing it with sassy originality, and the improvisations spit, spin, and curl above the pattern without sounding like any other tune.

Staaf saves the best for last. “The Water Wheel”, the second duet with Akinmusire’s trumpet, closes the album with a summation of the other six tracks. The opening flows in a manner that suggests the title: a genuine conversation between the musicians—the conversation that took place in the 1940s-1960s between Monk and Williams, if you like. Staaf and Akinmusire improvise together, truly, interpolating her melody, mixing and matching the form, until, voila!, she begins a rolling bass line beneath the trumpet’s last set of variations. It isn’t exactly the line from the album’s first (Williams) composition, but the callback reminds us that Staaf’s artistry also flows from Williams as mentor and teacher.

Throughout Sounding Line, there is relatively little show-offery from Carmen Staaf. As a pianist, she exemplifies taste and balance—the kind of playing that makes her a superb bandmate and duet partner throughout. Her own improvisations are logical and artful, flowing out of and amplifying the beauty or daring of the composed pieces. In a sense, it is easy to “merely” enjoy an album like this because it doesn’t surge dramatically or overheat, but neither did Thelonious Monk nor Mary Lou Williams. For this recording, that is part of the point. They came together and raised jazz to a new level, and the music follows suit.

Bruce Springsteen Takes Us Back With ‘Nebraska 82: Expanded Edition’

The Boss flicks the switch on the time machine, taking us back to a moment when E.T. was flying high at the box office, Michael Jackson’s Thriller was hot, and Ronald Reagan had the top job.

At the stroke of midnight, Bruce Springsteen shared Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition (via Sony Music), a treasure chest stuffed with previously unseen and unheard cuts. It’s the stuff of fans’ dreams.

Released both digitally and as a five-disc box set, Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition gathers solo outtakes from back in the day, and the fabled “Electric Nebraska” sessions; a newly-shot performance film of Nebraska in its entirety; a recently-released version of “Born in the U.S.A.”, recorded back in April 1982 with Springsteen backed by Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent; plus a 2025 remaster of the original album.

“We threw out the keyboards and played basically as a three-piece,” Springsteen reflects of the unearthed “Born in the U.S.A.” cut, a song penned during the Nebraska era. “It was kinda like punk rockabilly. We were trying to bring ‘Nebraska’ into the electric world.”

In a separate promo video accompanying the release, Springsteen admits he’s often asked about “Electric Nebraska,” which features Tallent, Weinberg, Danny Federici, Roy Bittan and Stevie Van Zandt. “There is no ‘Electric Nebraska’. It doesn’t exist,” he says, thinking out loud.

Wrong.

He checked, revisited the vault. “There it was,” he remarks. “And radically different than anything I’d remembered.”

The album was pushed back a week to coincide with the cinematic rollout of Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. Directed by Scott Cooper and released through 20th Century Studios, the biopic chronicles the making of Springsteen’s Nebraska, and served as the opening film at AFI Fest in Hollywood on Wednesday.

Springsteen was on hand for a brief performance inside the TCL Chinese Theater after the screening, according to The Hollywood Reporter, where he thanked guests for “supporting our movie” and quipped “this is my last night in the movie business, I’m sticking to music.”

The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame-inducted artist used the opportunity speak out once more against Donald Trump, offering up a “prayer” for “no kings” in his speech. “I’ve spent 50 years traveling as kind of a musical ambassador for America and I’ve seen firsthand all the love and admiration that folks around the world have had for the America of our highest ideals. Despite how terribly damaging America has been recently, that country and those ideals remain worth fighting for. I want to send this out as a prayer for America, for our unity. No kings,” he remarked, before hitting a rendition of “Land of Hope and Dreams.”

Jeremy Allen White stars as Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere, which is in cinemas from today. Stream Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition below.

Chandigarh, People in droves celebrated Diwali with gaiety and enthusiasm across Punjab and Haryana on Monday, with devotees queuing up in front of temples and gurdwaras, and citizens thronging market places for last-minute shopping across the two states and their twin capital Chandigarh.

Festive spirit takes over Punjab, Haryana on Diwali

Candles, ‘diyas’ and electric lights dotted houses as people exchanged sweets and gifts to ring in the festival of lights.

People thronged the market places for last-minute shopping as a festive spirit pervaded the two states and their joint capital Chandigarh.

Security was tightened across the region, especially in and around the vital installations, markets and places of worship, officials said.

Governors and chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana extended their warm greetings to the people on the occasion.

Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator, Gulab Chand Kataria, greeted people on Diwali, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also extended his warm wishes to the citizens.

Kataria said the festival of lights symbolises the victory of peace over conflict, good over evil, and light over darkness, and appealed to people to celebrate Diwali in an environment-friendly manner.

Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh said, “I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Haryana and the nation as a whole. May this festival of lights illuminate everyone’s life with courage, vigour, sagacity and enduring good health!”

Ghosh also said that as the nation celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, “let us work harder to drive India towards a future rooted in harmony, inclusiveness and compassion”.

The governor expressed hope that the festival would inspire citizens to strengthen the bonds of unity, fraternity and goodwill, and to contribute meaningfully to the progress and prosperity of the state and the nation.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said Diwali symbolises prosperity, harmony, and enlightenment, as he appealed to the citizens to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly manner, and fulfil their responsibility towards cleanliness.

Earlier in the day, Saini extended Diwali greetings to Governor Ghosh and his wife Mitra Ghosh, and exchanged sweets with them.

“It is a matter of great joy and pride that under the guidance of the Honourable Governor, the state is moving forward with new momentum and energy in its development,” Saini said in a post on X.

Haryana Police, meanwhile, took up the task of spreading happiness on Diwali, with many of its personnel visiting orphanages, old-age homes, slums, and the homeless.

Under a special initiative, police officers across the state selected areas in their respective jurisdictions, lit lamps with children and the elderly, and distributed sweets among them.

This Diwali is not just about lights, but also about human compassion and shared smiles, a statement issued by the police department said.

In Palwal, SP Varun Singla and his family celebrated Diwali with orphans and the destitute, lighting lamps, singing songs, and distributing sweets among the children.

“A true Diwali is when we can bring light into the lives of those in need. Sharing happiness with the underprivileged sections of society is the true meaning of this festival,” Singla said.

Stradivarius violin takes spotlight at Brussels concert

BRUSSELS -A 300-year-old Stradivari violin valued at around $16 million will take centre stage on Friday at a concert in Brussels performed by Armenian Sergey Khachatryan with the Belgian National Orchestra.

The violin, renowned for its extraordinary tonal range and historical importance, was made around 1724 by Italian craftsman Antonio Stradivari in his hometown Cremona, and was recently bought by a benefactor of the philanthropic Stretton Society, which loans out exceptional instruments.

“It is a huge joy to be able to create that relationship between me as an artist and the instrument … such an incredible instrument with such a beautiful sound and complexity,” said Khachatryan, who is entrusted with the Stradivarius for the next 10 years.

At the Brussels Palais des Beaux-Arts on Friday, he will interpret the technically demanding Brahms Violin Concerto.

“Brahms’ music is such a reflection of beauty, in nature and also in human feelings,” Khachatryan told Reuters. “If you have such an incredible violin, you can show that.”

The instrument is among the highest valued of several hundred remaining Stradivari violins, which can sell for millions of dollars, with the most sought-after coming from Stradivari’s 1700-1720 “Golden Period”.

Known as the “Kiesewetter” – after 19th-century German violinist Christoph Gottfried Kiesewetter – it has been played by leading violinists, including Augustin Hadelich and Maxim Vengerov, who used it at the Grammy Awards ceremony in 1996.

“There’s actually a very beautiful photo with Maxim Vengerov, Sting and Elton John next to the instrument,” said Stephan Jansen, co-founder of the Stretton Society.

Caterina Scorsone Takes A Break; Will Amelia Return?

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

SPOILER ALERT: The story includes details about Episode 2202, “We Built This City,” of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

EXCLUSIVE: The deadly explosion in the Season 21 finale of Grey’s Anatomy left all of the doctors at Grey Sloan reeling. No one felt the impact more than Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), whose patient Dylan’s mother was responsible for the blast. Not able to cope despite an intervention by Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary), Amelia announced at the end of tonight’s episode that she is taking a sabbatical. (You can read Deadline’s recap here.)

That sets a lengthy hiatus for longtime Grey’s Anatomy series regular cast member Scorsone. According to sources, it will span the next eight episodes, with the actress returning in 2026.

As Deadline has reported, starting in 2024-25, Grey’s Anatomy reduced the minimum guarantees for its veteran cast members to 14 out of the show’s 18 episodes per season, a cost-saving measure employed by a number of long-running series, including the Dick Wolf dramas. It resulted in Grey’s long-tenured cast members not appearing in four episodes each, usually sprinkled throughout the season.

That again is the case for 2025-26, I hear, with the veterans doing 14 out of 18 episodes except for Scorsone who will be doing 10 out of 18. The reduction was built into Amelia’s storyline as she goes on sabbatical, with the off episodes believed to be consecutive.

The move is said to be specific to this season. Scorsone remains a series regular, and Amelia, first introduced in Season 7 of Grey’s after making her debut on spinoff Private Practice, remains a fan favorite character and one deeply rooted in the show’s mythology as the sister of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and sister-in-law to Meredith.

ABC’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ stars Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd.

Disney/Nino Muñoz

In an interview after the Season 21 finale, Deadline asked Grey’s Anatomy executive producer/showrunner Meg Marinis about the Season 22 plans for Amelia who is overdue for a strong arc after she was not given a lot to do last season.

“She was very medical this season,” Marinis said at the time. “We’ll see if her strive and desire to keep taking on medical cases, we’ll see if that continues after what happens to Dylan. I think that’s a moment of hubris for her. She took on something that, there’s a possibility she shouldn’t have operated on that girl to begin with.”

The last line has been at the heart of Amelia’s emotional struggles as she blames her decision to take on Dylan’s case for everything that happened, including the death of her friend, Dr. Monica Beltran. Compounding her grief is the fact that, as Amelia revealed in tonight’s episode, after two surgeries, Dylan remains locked in awake in her body, can’t blink and is looking at spending her life in a longterm care facility.

She will hopefully improve later this season, before or after Amelia makes her return.

Shots fired at Kapil Sharma’s restaurant In Canada 3rd time in four months; Bishnoi gang takes responsibility

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey, Canada, was attacked for the third time on Thursday when unidentified gunmen fired multiple shots at the restaurant. Kulvir Sidhu, reportedly linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s network, claimed responsibility in a viral social media post, warning the “general public” to stay away.

Kapil Sharma

According to City News Vancouver, the Surrey Police Service is investigating reports of gunfire at Kap’s Café, located on 85 Avenue and 120 Street, around 3:45 am. Videos circulating online showed multiple bullets hitting the cafe’s walls and windows. A clip reportedly shot from inside a vehicle captured a man sticking his arm out of the window and firing at least half-a-dozen shots from a handgun. Staff were reportedly inside the café during the shooting, but no one was injured.

Kapil Sharma and his team have not yet issued a statement. Kap’s Café was previously targeted on July 9 and August 7. Shortly after Thursday’s shooting, a post attributed to Goldy Dhillon surfaced, stating, “Today’s firing at Kap’s Cafe, Surrey, was carried out by me, Kulvir Sidhu, and Goldy Dhillon. We hold no grudge against the general public. Those who owe us or cheat us will be warned. Bollywood individuals who speak against our religion should also be prepared, bullets can come from anywhere.”

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has reportedly targeted celebrities over the years, including actor Salman Khan, with attacks on his Galaxy Apartment last year. Kap’s Café is located in a mixed-use building in Surrey’s Newton area, with retail outlets on the ground floor and residential apartments above. Police cordoned off the site while collecting evidence, even as children played nearby at a local daycare, highlighting the danger posed to families and the public.

Paresh Rawal Takes A Stand For Truth In The Taj Story Trailer – You Won’t Want To Miss This! | Glamsham.com

written by jummy84

The trailer for The Taj Story, a bold courtroom drama starring veteran actor Paresh Rawal, has officially been unveiled, offering a provocative glimpse into what promises to be one of the most thought-provoking films of the year. Slated for theatrical release on October 31, 2025, the film challenges long-held narratives surrounding the Taj Mahal and invites viewers to question history with a critical eye.

Written and directed by Tushar Amrish Goel and produced by Warnim Global Services Pvt. Ltd. along with CA Suresh Jha, the film explores themes of truth, belief, and intellectual freedom. Creative producer Vikas Radhesham ensures that the film strikes a balance between compelling drama and philosophical depth.

In The Taj Story, Paresh Rawal plays Vishnu Das, a passionate guide determined to uncover the “real” story behind India’s most iconic monument. His quest for truth brings him face to face with powerful ideological forces, leading to fierce courtroom battles. Zakir Hussain plays a key opposing counsel, and their intense legal face-offs form the core of the narrative.

The trailer features sharp visuals, hard-hitting dialogues, and a storyline that promises more than just entertainment. “Vishnu Das is rooted in conviction,” Rawal shared. “This film doesn’t shy away from asking uncomfortable questions and encourages audiences to reflect honestly on history.”

Director Goel added, “The Taj Story is more than a film — it’s a cinematic debate. We hope it sparks meaningful dialogue.”

The cast also includes Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das in pivotal roles. Music is composed by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dev Nath. Positioned as a fearless social drama, The Taj Story dares to ask: “Even after 79 years of Independence, are we still slaves of intellectual terrorism?”
