From blue light to UVA rays: Dermatologist shares 6 reasons you shouldn’t skip sunscreen indoors | Health

Sunscreen is often seen as an outdoor essential, but did you know your skin needs its protection even when you’re indoors? In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Ruben Bhasin Passi, consultant, dermatologist, CK Birla Hospital Gurugram said, “Very few people understand that even when indoors, their skin requires protection. Sunscreen is not only meant for the beach or sunny weather; it’s an everyday item, wherever you go.” Also read | Is your sunscreen safe or ageing your skin faster? Watch out for these hidden irritants linked to skin damage

1. UV rays can travel through windows

Glass will filter out UVB rays, but UVA rays, which travel deeper into the skin, will penetrate. Indoor exposure to UVA can also lead to premature ageing, wrinkles, and pigmentation. Sitting near a sunny window at work or driving can add immensely to your UVA exposure.

2. Blue light from screens affects skin

We sit for hours in front of laptops, smartphones, and tablets. These output high-energy visible (HEV) blue light, which can cause skin damage, pigmentation, and premature aging over the long term. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with built-in blue light protection can assist.

3. Cumulative sun damage adds up

Sun damage isn’t just about the occasional sunburn, it’s the steady build-up of daily exposure that contributes to skin problems down the line. Putting on sunscreen indoors guarantees even protection, keeping damage from silently piling up over time.

4. Indoor lighting can cause skin damage

Some halogen and fluorescent lights produce minor levels of UV radiation. Although less strong than sunlight, repeated exposure in home or office settings can still have an effect on skin health, particularly in individuals who are susceptible to pigmentation. 5. Prevention is easier than repair

Treating sun damage, whether it’s fine lines, dark spots, or uneven skin tone, often requires expensive and time-consuming procedures. Daily sunscreen use is a simple, cost-effective preventive measure that protects your skin’s health and appearance.

6. It supports skin treatments

If you’re undergoing skin treatments like chemical peels, laser therapy, or acne management, sunscreen is crucial, even indoors. Without it, the results can be compromised, and post-treatment pigmentation can occur. “Select a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater, put it on as the final step of your morning skin care routine, and reapply every 2–3 hours if you are in front of windows or using devices for extended periods of time. Your skin will appreciate it in the years ahead,” Dr. Ruben Bhasin Passi added.

Audra McDonald Shares Fan Followed Her Home After Final ‘Gypsy’ Show

Broadway legend Audra McDonald recently issued a PSA to fans after being followed home by an entitled stranger.

On Sunday (Aug. 17), the actress recounted the terrifying event in an Instagram video captioned, “Some thoughts on boundaries.”

Following her final performance as Mama Rose in Gypsy, McDonald shared, “Last night, someone—I don’t even know if they did the stage door or not—but they snuck around and found me the way I had exited from the theatre.” She explained that the fan followed her to where she was staying, “came into the building, and was uncomfortably close.”

She was able to get help from security, but the fan responded, “‘Well, hey, I’ve come all the way,’” she recalled. “They named some town, some city that they’ve come all the way from. They wanted an autograph and felt that they deserved an autograph.”

McDonald admits that she doesn’t always hang around post-show to preserve her vocal health, “whatever energy I have,” and to get home to her young daughter. For other actors, she cited anxiety, health concerns, exhaustion, and more as one of the reasons why they may not greet fans after a show. However, the 55-year-old acknowledged that this restricted access is a boundary that needs to be respected.

“That is crossing a big old boundary,” she emphasized. “I just want to call that out, that’s a big no-no. That’s now messing with my safety. It’s not right.”

As a message to other fans, she urged, “When you see an actor leave the stage door, if they don’t stop, leave them alone. There is a reason that they’re not stopping, and it has nothing to do with you. It’s them protecting their space and peace, whatever that may be.”

After her final performance, McDonald shared, “Saying goodbye to Rose and to my incredible @gypsybway family. I couldn’t have wished for a more brilliant, fierce, joyous, kind and loving group of souls with which to travel this road. I don’t even have the words to express how much I love them all. My head is full of gorgeous memories, my body is tired, and my heart is full of nothing but gratitude and love.”

Having chronic eye pain? Eye surgeon shares 6 red flags of glaucoma to never overlook | Health

Glaucoma, often called the silent thief of sight, is an optic disorder that can cause irreversible vision loss. What makes it especially dangerous is that it develops quietly, without noticeable symptoms in the early stages.

What makes glaucoma more dangerous is the absence of early prominent symptoms.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Vineet Sehgal, senior glaucoma specialist, Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals said, “Most of the times, the patient might not be knowing that he is having glaucoma. Glaucoma significantly affects the optic nerve, and when the symptoms become pronounced, it indicates permanent damage.” Also read | Doctors call glaucoma the ‘silent thief of sight’: Here’s how to stop it and save your eyes from permanent blindness

Dr. Vineet Sehgal further listed the red flags of glaucoma to watch out for, to address it immediately.

1. Frequent change of power of near glasses:

Frequent change of power of near glasses might be suggestive of glaucoma.

2. Halos around the lights:

Rainbow rings or halos can be experienced by patients having high eye pressure.

3. Eye pain or headache:

Patients with acute onset glaucoma may present with headache, stony eyeball, redness, and nausea.

4. Loss of peripheral vision:

The patient may complain that he is not able to see the objects/vehicles coming from the side. Also read | Why early detection is crucial for glaucoma? Doctor explains warning signs to watch out for

5. Family history of glaucoma:

While there are no symptoms, being a close relative of someone with glaucoma increases your risk. In such cases, regular eye check-ups should be one’s priority, even if there are no symptoms.

6. History of diabetes, eye injury and drugs:

History of injury to the eye, high power of glasses, Diabetes, use of steroids, and drugs like antidepressants are risk factors which warrant regular eye pressure monitoring and check-up.

“Early detection is the best defense against glaucoma. It is recommended to have a comprehensive eye exam every year after the age of 40, or earlier if you have a family history or other risk factors. Don’t ignore the small changes in your vision; your body is always giving you signs that something is wrong,” said Dr. Vineet Sehgal. Brandon Blackstock’s daughter, Savannah Blackstock Lee, wrote a touching tribute to her father on Tuesday. Brandon died on Aug. 7 at the age of 48 following a three-year battle with cancer.

“My daddy never fell short of making my dreams come true. No matter how high or how far, he made a way. Not only did he make my dreams come true, he chased them with me,” Savannah wrote on Instagram. “Worldwide he was there, my biggest cheerleader. He is my best friend, my voice of reason, and my favorite phone call every day.”

Savannah opened up about her faith, sharing that over “the past 6 months my dad gifted me a new avenue of our relationship, and that was a relationship centered in Jesus.” She continued, “He always loved the Lord, but 6 months ago he sought the Lord.” Savannah wrote that 12 days ago her father “blessed me the most valuable gift I could’ve asked for,” adding, “The gift of knowing where he is today, in Heaven with our Savior.”

She ended her tribute on a heartfelt note, writing, “I lost a piece of my heart and my favorite Cowboy, but Heaven gained an angel. I’m so thankful for the time I did have and I can’t wait for eternity. I love you daddy and I will miss you indefinitely. Enjoy your ranch up there, God designed it with your heart’s desires in mind.”

In her post, Savannah also included a carousel of photos with her father, including images of Brandon at her wedding and with her son, Lake, and husband, Quentin Lee. A month before her father’s death, Savannah shared that she is expecting another child with Quentin.

Woman shares how she healed her gut after 10 years of struggle with this simple hack, calls it ‘best-kept secret’ | Health

by jummy84 August 20, 2025

From better immunity to balanced hormones, gut health influences so much more than just digestion. But when it’s out of balance, the struggle can feel never-ending. After battling with her gut health for a decade, a woman named Kelci Cundiff found an unexpectedly simple solution that worked when nothing else did.

Check out simple steps to heal leaky gut and boost health. (Shutterstock)

What’s the root cause of gut issues?

In her July 28 Instagram post, Kelci shared, “This changed my gut health so fast I was in shock! I waited to share it because I honestly couldn’t believe it, but now I feel like I’m sitting on the best-kept secret to gut health!”

Explaining further, she said, “To heal your gut, you must focus on healing leaky gut, which, unfortunately, most of us struggle with today due to seed oils, chemicals, medications, stress, and environmental toxins. If you’re dealing with gut issues, it’s a good idea to identify which of these stressors might be your main trigger.”

According to Kelci, leaky gut is often responsible for a wide range of health concerns: “food intolerances, allergies, hormone imbalances, inflammation, mood dysregulation, blood sugar issues, the list goes on.”

How can you heal leaky gut?

She also shared the simple steps that worked for her to heal leaky gut:

1. Improve mobility (how fast food moves through your gut)

“Inulin fibre is my favourite. I take about a tablespoon every day, it not only keeps me regular but also feeds the best bacteria in my gut,” says Kelci.

2. Repair the gut lining

She adds, “Do this by strengthening the gut’s mucosal lining with herbs like marshmallow root, liquorice root, and slippery elm (these are SO effective!). Also, take a high-quality collagen supplement, it provides the building blocks needed to restore your gut lining.”
