Lizzo Calls Out Airlines Charging ‘Bigger Bodied’ People For Extra Seats, Shares Support For Weight Loss Dr*gs & Tells Body Shamers ‘STFU’

Lizzo has a message about minding your own body.

In a recent TikTok video, the Grammy-winning singer spoke out against airlines charging plus-size passengers for extra seats, calling the move a “fascism indicator.” Her comment comes just days after Southwest Airlines announced they would be implementing a policy requiring larger passengers to purchase additional seating.

Lizzo, who’s been a longtime advocate for body acceptance, also addressed the backlash surrounding weight loss dr*gs. She slammed critics who call the use of medication “cheating,” calling that label both “unnecessary” and “a lie.”

Ultimately, Lizzo urged people to stop commenting on other people’s health or weight journeys, signing off with a blunt message:

“How about we all mind our own bodies. STFU.”

Actor Anne Hathaway, who recently slipped and fell while shooting for The Devil Wears Prada sequel in New York City, shared an old video of herself falling down. Taking to Instagram recently, Anne shared an edited video, made by a fan, from her recent fall and a scene from The Princess Diaries.

Anne Hathaway also fell down while shooting for The Princess Diaries.

Anne Hathaway shares old clip of her falling down on The Princess Diaries set

The video began with Anne’s character, Mia Thermopolis, in The Princess Diaries, slipping and falling on the school bleachers. The move was unscripted but perfectly fitting for the film. The words in the clip read, “How it started.”

The video next showed her slipping and falling on the stairs in the midst of the shoot. The actor, however, bounced back, holding a bagel in her hand. “How’s it going. Witnessing the queen herself take a tumble like a champ,” the text read. Sharing the video, Anne captioned her post: “Twenty years later, still falling for you…”

In the video, Anne, dressed in a knee-length skirt, a top, strappy heels and shades, walked down the stairs when she fell down. The actor landed on her bottom, with one leg behind her, as her hair fell over her face. She got back up on her feet quickly, laughed and said, “I’m fine.”

In 2020, during an interview in The Happy Days of Garry Marshall, Anne had said that her fall on the bleachers in The Princess Diaries scene was totally unplanned. “I turned really fast, slipped on a puddle, and just I mean fell. I mean, just absolutely fell, and burst out laughing and kept going with the scene. Never thought about it again. All of a sudden, like six months later, it’s in the trailer … He kept it because it was a charming moment,” she said.

Tamannaah Bhatia maintains amazing fitness with her perfectly toned body. The 35-year-old actor swears by a disciplined routine and healthy eating to keep her figure in top shape. In an August 23 conversation with her fitness coach, whom she has known for 10–12 years, Tamannaah revealed that she is an early riser and shared the secrets that keep her motivated. (Also read: Karan Kundrra lost 12 kg in 1 month without any dieting, says ‘ghee and fasting’ were the secrets behind his weight loss )

What’s Tamannaah Bhatia’s fitness mantra

Fitness coach Siddhartha Singh shared a candid video of his conversation with Tamannaah on Instagram, captioning it, “Wakes up at 4:30 am for a workout and straight to a 12-hour shooting shift! Sustainable fitness with consistency is what people at elite levels swear by! And I thought I was busy.”

In the video, Siddhartha jokingly asked Tamannaah, “You wake up at 4:30 for training, are you going to sleep the whole day?” The actor laughed and replied, “No, I am going to work the whole day,” adding that her busy schedule can stretch anywhere from 8 to 12 hours.

Sharing what motivates her to rise so early, the actor said, “Workout in the morning, and you feel more awake. It sets the tone for the entire day.” She also opened up about how she maintains her consistency, revealing her fitness mantra: “There’s no other way to do it. Diet, of course, needs to be controlled, but you can’t substitute anything for workouts. You have to train and I enjoy it.”

In an earlier interview with Hindustan Times, Tamannaah shared details of her fitness routine, “My fitness regime consists of weights, abs, crunches, cardio, and a series of free-hand exercises. I spend at least an hour in the gym, apart from doing yoga or swimming in the morning. Sometimes I also do Pilates and aerobics.”

Benefits of early morning workout

According to a 2020 study published in the Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews, establishing a regular morning exercise routine may be more effective than irregular or evening workouts in not only promoting sustained physical activity but also supporting long-term adherence to a fitness regimen, improving overall metabolic health, and helping individuals achieve their weight loss and wellness goals more efficiently.

How not to consume chia seeds? From eating them dry to excessive quantity, a nutritionist shares 5 warnings | Health

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Chia seeds are widely known for their weight loss benefits, loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, protein, and antioxidants. They are easy to mix into smoothies, yogurt, or overnight oats, making them a quick option. But while they offer impressive health benefits, there is a right and wrong way to eat them. If you are not careful, chia seeds can cause bloating, constipation, or even choking, especially when eaten dry or in large quantities. Certain health conditions may also make them risky. Wondering how not to consume chia seeds? Dietician Gauri Anand shares certain important warnings to keep in mind. From how much to eat to how to prepare chia seeds safely, here is what you should avoid to get the most out of this tiny yet powerful seed.

How not to consume chia seeds?

Here are 5 ways to avoid eating chia seeds, otherwise, they can lead to health risks:

1. Eating chia seeds dry or without soaking

One of the most common mistakes people make with chia seeds is eating them dry. These seeds are incredibly absorbent and can soak up 10–12 times their weight in water.

“When consumed without soaking or adequate fluid, they start absorbing moisture inside your body and may expand in the throat or stomach, leading to choking risk or discomfort,” explains dietician and lifestyle coach Gauri Anand to Health Shots. This is one of the most dangerous chia seed side effects you should be careful of.

Risk of choking and blockage: There have been cases of chia seeds causing blockages in the esophagus when they expand after coming into contact with water post-swallowing. This is especially dangerous for individuals with swallowing difficulties.

Digestive problems: From digestion also dry chia can also be problematic. The outer shell of chia seeds is tough to break down. A 2020 study published in the Journal of Foods found that consuming dry chia can lead to bloating, constipation, or cramping, especially when there is not enough liquid to support the high fibre content.

What to do instead: Soak them! A good ratio is 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to 1/2 to 1 cup of liquid (water, coconut water, almond milk, etc.). Let them soak for at least 2-3 hours, overnight is even better. You can also blend them directly into healthy smoothies or stir them into wet foods like yoghurt, oatmeal, or soup. If the food already contains moisture, soaking separately is not necessary.

2. Consuming too much at once

Yes, chia is healthy, but that does not mean more is better. Gauri Anand warns, “Overeating chia (more than 2 tbsp/25–30 g in one go) can cause constipation, gas, or abdominal pain due to their high fibre.” If your gut is not used to a high-fibre diet, loading up suddenly can cause a lot of discomfort. It is best to start small, just 1 teaspoon.

3. Without enough water

Even if you are not eating chia seeds dry, you still need to drink plenty of fluids. Because of their fibre and absorbent nature, chia seeds draw water from their surroundings, including from your digestive tract.

“To stay safe, chia seeds should always be soaked in water or added to liquid foods like smoothies, yoghurt, or overnight oats, and paired with adequate daily water intake,” advises Gauri. Skipping it can cause bloating, cramping, or even constipation instead of aiding digestion.

4. Eating them just before bedtime

Timing matters! While chia seeds offer slow-digesting energy and beneficial fats, eating them right before sleep may cause problems. Their fibre content can slow digestion, leading to gas, heaviness, or even nighttime trips to the bathroom due to the gel-like mass they form when hydrated. Therefore, it is better to enjoy your chia earlier in the day, for breakfast or a midday snack.

5. If you have certain health conditions

Chia seeds are not for everyone. If you are taking blood thinners or blood pressure medication, be cautious. “Since chia has natural blood-thinning properties, it may increase bleeding risk if you are on anticoagulant or blood pressure medications,” explains Gauri.

They can also lower blood sugar levels, which may interfere with diabetes medications. Plus, individuals with digestive conditions like IBS or swallowing disorders may find chia seeds aggravating rather than helpful due to their high fibre and expanding properties.

In such cases, chia should only be consumed in moderation and ideally after a doctor’s advice.

Can breastfeeding protect your baby from diseases? Lactation expert shares 8 powerful benefits of breast milk | Health

by jummy84 August 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Breast milk isn’t just the first source of nutrition for your baby—it’s a powerhouse of immunity and strength. Packed with essential nutrients and protective properties, it helps shield infants from infections and lowers the risk of lifestyle diseases. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Shacchee Baweja, principal consultant, lactation, BLK – Max Super Specialty Hospital shared how breastfeeding can protect the baby from various diseases.

Breastfeeding can protect the baby from various diseases. (Freepik)

1. The early milk

Colostrum or the early milk is teeming with numerous immune cells, antibodies and many antimicrobial substances (Lactoferrin, Lysozyme, oligosaccharides, cytokines, antioxidants to name a few!). That’s why it’s also known as the first vaccination of the baby. Also read | Is there a right time to stop breastfeeding? Gynaecologist shares 8 things that new parents need to know

2. Promotes good bacteria

Breastmilk contains substances that promote the growth of certain kind of good bacteria in the baby’s gut(intestines) thus supporting the gut microbiome.

3. Provides ready-made immunity

The immune component of breastmilk keeps changing based on what the baby needs. Baby’s saliva coming in contact with mother’s breast, sends signals and mother’s breasts secrete immune substances accordingly in the milk, thus providing ready-made immunity to the baby.

4. Strengthens immune system

Breastfed babies have lower incidence of Diarrheal diseases, Respiratory illnesses, Ear infections and many other infections. Immune properties of breastmilk strengthen immunity, prevent from getting infected and have quick recovery if they catch infection.

5. Prevents attach by infectious organisms

Breastmilk acts locally too (by coating the insides and outsides with immune cells) thus preventing attack by the infectious organisms. When the baby is taking milk from the mother, there is very low chance of contamination and catching a bug transmitted via food. The robust microbiome also acts as a barrier against disease causing organisms.

6. Protection against obesity, diabetes, hypertension, allergies, asthma

Breastfeeding is responsive feeding i.e. baby asks to be fed and feeds only as much as he needs, there is no over feeding, thus setting a stage for mindful eating and lower chance of obesity, blood pressure etc. Breastmilk contains optimal amount of nutrients for baby’s body. Because breastmilk proteins are not foreign to baby’s body (as opposed to animal milk which contains animal protein), there is a lower risk of developing allergies, type 1 diabetes etc. Also read | Nutrition for new mothers: Expert shares 7 diet tips for breastfeeding moms

7. Protection against dental caries

Contrary to popular belief, the immune properties of breastmilk are protective against tooth decay. It’s the poor oral hygiene that causes tooth decay.

8. Protection against cancers

Breastmilk contains alpha lactalbumin which is found to have anti-cancer properties. Also there’s a strong correlation between breastfeeding and a lower incidence of breast and ovarian cancers in the mother.

French biochemist shares the ‘easiest way to reduce blood sugar spikes’: Do this simple 5–10 minute exercise after meals | Health

by jummy84 August 26, 2025

Managing blood sugar levels can be a daily challenge, especially for people with diabetes or those at risk. Jessie Inchauspé, French biochemist and New York Times bestselling author, shares in her August 25 Instagram post how simple techniques like ‘calf raises’ can help reduce blood sugar spikes and support better glucose control. (Also read: Fitness coach shares the best exercise to regulate blood sugar and lower diabetes risk: ‘Building muscle is key’ )

Simple calf raises help lower blood sugar spikes after meals, says Biochemist.

How to do calf raises to lower glucose

“Just eaten a donut or a big bowl of pasta? Try this: Feet on the ground, lift your heels up and down. This makes your soleus muscle (hiding in your calf) contract, helping soak up the glucose from your bloodstream. And boom, smaller glucose spike,” Jessie wrote in the caption.

In a video, Jessie explains, “The soluup pushup or the calf raise, imagine you’re at your desk, at work, or at school, wherever you’ve eaten something really high in carbs. Here is the easiest and most discreet way you can lower the glucose spike at that meal. You simply put your feet on the ground and go up and down, keeping your shoes on, for 5–10 minutes.”

Jessie shares the benefits of this exercise: “Your calves contain a muscle called the soleus, which studies have shown is especially good at soaking up glucose from the bloodstream after we eat.”

What are the benefits

Quoting the study, she explains, “The study, called ‘A Potent Physiological Method to Magnify and Sustain Cellulose Oxidative Metabolism Improves Glucose and Lipid Regulation,’ asked participants to do calf pushups or raises for five hours. That’s a lot, of course, but here’s what they found: five hours of calf raises reduced post-meal glucose spikes by 52% and lowered extra insulin levels by 60%.”

She clarifies, “We don’t have to do this for 5 hours. Even doing 10 minutes can have a strong impact. In my own test, I compared a pain au chocolat with and without 10 minutes of calf raises. The glucose spike was much smaller with the exercise, and it’s very discreet. It’s very, very easy. I recommend you test this out.”

Oncologist says ‘don’t ignore mouth sores or patches’ as oral cancer rises in young adults; shares key prevention tips | Health

by jummy84 August 26, 2025

Oral cancer is emerging as a significant public health concern in India, with thousands of new cases diagnosed each year. Factors like tobacco chewing, smoking, alcohol consumption, and certain lifestyle habits contribute heavily to its rising prevalence.

Early detection of oral cancer can boost survival rates to 90% amid rising incidence. (Jerussa Paredes)

“Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is a major health concern in India, accounting for 26% of cancers in men and 8% in women. Among these, oral cancer is the most common type, with a particularly high incidence in the northeastern regions, where cases reach 31.8 per 100,000 males. Population-based cancer registry data further suggest that the nationwide incidence can be as high as 20 per 100,000 population,” says Dr. Minish Jain, Director of Medical Oncology at Ruby Hall Clinic. (Also read: 25 year old with stage 4 cancer shares why he never eats 3 hours before sleep: ‘Your body needs rest, not digestion’ )

Dr. Minish further shared with HT Lifestyle key symptoms to watch for, emerging trends in oral cancer, and the importance of early detection to improve survival rates and outcomes.

Changing trends in oral cancer

Traditionally, oral cancer in India has been strongly linked to tobacco and alcohol use. However, a recent study in Kochi revealed that 57% of oral cancer cases were diagnosed in individuals with no history of tobacco or alcohol use, indicating an alarming shift in disease patterns.

The age-adjusted incidence of oral cancer is highly variable across India, depending on study design, population groups, and geographic locations. Incidence rates increase with age but tend to decline after the age of 70, a trend consistent across multiple studies.

Advanced-stage diagnosis remains the norm

A major challenge in oral cancer management is late detection. Data reveal that 48% of oral cancer cases present in stages III and IV, by which time treatment outcomes are poor. When diagnosed early, oral cancer has a 5-year survival rate of above 80%. However, this drops drastically to 20–30% in advanced stages, despite multimodal therapy.

Oral cancer in India is rising, with tobacco as the main cause.(Karolina Grabowska)
Oral cancer in India is rising, with tobacco as the main cause.(Karolina Grabowska)

Symptoms to watch for

Common signs of oral cancer include:

  • Red or white patches inside the mouth
  • Ulcers or sores persisting beyond 14 days
  • A lump in the neck
  • Pain or bleeding in the mouth
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Persistent throat or ear pain
  • Speech problems

Awareness of these early symptoms is crucial for timely intervention.

Key risk factors

Tobacco remains the leading cause, accounting for nearly 80% of oral cancers, especially in men over 40. Worryingly, the incidence among women and younger adults has been rising, driven by smokeless tobacco products such as betel quid, khaini, gutka, zarda, mawa, and kharra. These mixtures, often commercially sold in sachets, are socially accepted and widely consumed, sometimes even kept overnight in the mouth. Alcohol use in combination with tobacco further increases the risk. National surveys estimate that 57% of men and 11% of women (15–49 years) consume some form of tobacco, making this a public health crisis.

The emerging role of HPV

In recent years, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV-16) has emerged as a significant risk factor for oral and oropharyngeal cancers, particularly among individuals without tobacco exposure. Two decades ago, fewer than 10% of oral cancers were HPV-related; today, this number is steadily rising. Interestingly, HPV-positive oral cancers tend to respond better to treatment than tobacco-related cancers.

Challenges unique to India

The biology of oral cancer in Indian patients tends to be more aggressive compared to Western populations. Additional challenges include:

  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Delayed diagnosis due to low awareness
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Low socioeconomic status

Why early detection matters

Early detection not only increases survival chances from 50% to 90%, but also reduces the cost of treatment significantly. Unfortunately, most patients in India seek medical attention only at advanced stages due to a lack of awareness and sociocultural acceptance of tobacco chewing.

“Oral cancer continues to be a preventable yet deadly disease in India. Stronger public awareness campaigns, stricter regulation of smokeless tobacco, HPV vaccination programs, and improved access to screening can dramatically reduce the burden. With lifestyle changes and timely medical attention, this disease can be caught early, transforming outcomes for thousands of patients each year,” concludes Dr. Minish.
