AIIMS gastroenterologist shares Japanese walking technique with ‘more benefits than 10000 steps’: Better blood pressure

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Walking 10,000 steps every day has been linked to several health benefits, including a reduced risk of developing dementia, cancer and heart and circulatory diseases, as well as having mental health benefits. However, what if we told you that there is another walking technique with more benefits and requires much less time?

The Japanese walking technique has more benefits than the traditional 10,000 steps, and it is called interval walking. (Unsplash)

In an Instagram post shared on September 7, Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at the AIIMS, Harvard and Stanford Universities, talked about this walking technique. According to him, it was discovered by the Japanese. Let’s find out how to do it and how it is more beneficial than 10,000 steps.

Japanese walking technique better than 10,000 steps?

According to the gastroenterologist, the Japanese-discovered walking technique has more benefits than the traditional 10,000 steps, and it is called interval walking. It involves alternating 3 minutes of slow walking with 3 minutes of brisk walking, as if you are rushing to an important meeting.

How to do it?

The gastroenterologist suggested doing the interval walking for 30 minutes daily. “To start, walk at a comfortable pace for 3-5 minutes, then alternate between slow and brisk walking. Finish with a 3-5 minute cool down,” he explained.

The benefits

According to him, if you do this, the results will be impressive, including:

  • better blood pressure
  • reduced stroke risk
  • improved mood
  • boosted immunity
  • better sleep quality

“It is joint-friendly, time-efficient, and very effective. Share this widely and follow for more,” he added.

Study supports the benefits of interval walking

According to Dr Sethi, studies also show that this method can significantly improve cardiovascular health and fitness. A July 2007 study published in the PubMed journal examined whether high-intensity interval walking training increased thigh muscle strength and peak aerobic capacity and reduced blood pressure more than moderate-intensity continuous walking training.

The study found that high-intensity interval walking may protect against age-associated increases in blood pressure and decreases in thigh muscle strength and peak aerobic capacity.

Woman shares she ‘lost all her belly fat in 1 month by cutting out these 5 foods’: ‘You don’t need magic pills’

by jummy84 September 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Nutritionist and health coach Ruchi Sharmma took to Instagram on July 18 to share how she toned up by avoiding certain foods. She said, “I lost close to 5 kg and got a flatter stomach in a month. You don’t need magic pills. You need to know what to stop eating first. These 5 food types were silently holding me back.” Also read | French biochemist shares simple hack for enjoying fast food with fewer blood sugar spikes

In her post, titled, ‘I lost all my belly fat in a month by cutting out these 5 foods’, Ruchi shared foods you can avoid or limit if you want a flat belly like her:

1. Refined seed oils (Sunflower, soybean)

She said, “Found in namkeens, fried food, biscuits, restaurant meals, you name it, these oils mess with your hormones, gut, and digestion.” What I did: switched to ghee and cold-pressed coconut oil. My bloating reduced, energy improved, and mood stabilised.”

2. Bread, noodles, pasta and grains on their own

Ruchi added, “Eating carbs alone can spike your blood sugar and keep you in fat-storing mode. But carbs aren’t the villain, they just need balance. What I did: I started pairing carbs with protein and fibre, like adding paneer to my dosa or tofu with rice and sabzi. Energy = stable. Hunger = gone.”

3. Tea-time snacking: biscuits, rusks, diet namkeen, makhana

Ruchi said, “These sneaky snacks seem ‘lightl but keep your insulin constantly high. Mindless snacking between meals = constant fat gain. What I did: moved to 2-3 proper meals and 1 intentional snack if needed. No grazing. No distractions. Just real food.”

4. Hidden sugars in ‘healthy’ foods

“Protein bars, health drinks, flavoured yoghurts, granola – all sold as ‘healthy’ but packed with sugar, gums, and low-quality ingredients. What I did: focused on whole, clean protein like eggs, tofu, Greek yoghurt, protein powders, paneer, chicken, and fish. Cravings vanished, and skin cleared up, too,” she said.

5. Flavoured coffees, nut milks and ‘healthy’ smoothies

Ruchi shared, “These are loaded with additives, sugar, and artificial ingredients, even when they claim to be dairy-free or plant-based. What I did: switched to black coffee, plain milk or herbal chai. Less sugar = better gut = clearer mind.”

Ruchi further shared what she ate and did instead to achieve a flat belly:

⦿ Added good fats and fibre like mixed seeds and sabzi to every meal

⦿ Made every meal protein-rich including snacks

⦿ Didn’t give up carbs; instead, enjoyed balanced versions of pasta, dosa, paratha, and sandwiches

⦿ Focused on habits, not hacks

⦿ Walked daily, got sunlight, slept better

What is sustainable diet? Doctor shares 8 practical tips to stay healthy: Seasonal veggies, smart eating order and more

by jummy84 September 6, 2025

Updated on: Sept 06, 2025 09:15 pm IST

A sustainable diet is not restrictive, and instead supports long-term health by being realistic. Know how you can follow a sustainable diet.

There are a lot of diets trending lately that people are very quick to adopt. But one of the concerns with these quick-fix diets is the lack of longevity. Many get tired or give up midway because it feels too confining. Commonly, fad diets are too ambitious, cutting a number of different food groups, but the real solution lies in balance, moderation, and mindful choices that can be sustained in the long run. The way forward is adopting a diet which is enduring and, most importantly, realistic.

Dr Aparna Santhanam, dermatologist and holistic wellness coach, told HT Lifestyle that a sustainable diet helps to keep up with dieting for years as it’s not restrictive.

She explained, “A sustainable diet is not a short-lived food plan but a way of eating that you can enjoy and maintain for years. It focuses on balance, variety, and moderation, rather than rigid restrictions. The beauty of sustainable eating is that it not only protects long-term health but also makes daily meals more enjoyable, practical, and kind to the planet.”

Further, she highlighted how in the Indian food culture, where food is respected, sustainable eating is viewed as a way of building a natural habit to nourish the body.

Dr Santhanam shared 8 tips, demonstrating how to follow a sustainable diet:

1. Prioritise non-processed foods

Makhana is great for weight loss.(Pixabay)

  • Prioritise whole, minimally processed foods in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables, dals, and whole grains keep you fuller for longer.
  • For example, roasted chana or Makhana makes a far better snack swap nutritionally and sustainability-wise wise than a bag of store-bought potato chips.

2. Ensure smart eating order

Add darker greens to your salads. (Shutterstock)

  • Start meals with fibre-rich foods like salads or sautéed vegetables, then move to protein (dal, paneer, fish, eggs), and finish with carbs, which are largely grain-based in the Indian context.
  • This helps control sugar spikes, improves satiety, and keeps energy levels steady.

3. Adopt portion control

Serve your food in smaller plates. (Freepik)

  • Instead of cutting out favourite foods, enjoy them in smaller servings. Sharing a dessert at dinner is both healthier and more satisfying.
  • At home, use smaller plates and bowls that visually cue abundance.

4. Add more proteins

Tofu is a veg protein source. (Pexels)

• Add more plant-based proteins.

  • Mix in dals, sprouts, beans, and tofu regularly. This balances nutrition while reducing dependence on heavy meats.

5. Eat local and seasonal produce

  • Choose what’s naturally available, like mangoes in summer and carrots in winter, for freshness, better taste, and higher nutrition.
  • It is vital to stay attuned to nature’s seasonal rhythms.

6. Reduce food waste creatively

You can make rolls out of leftover sabzi.(Adobe stock)

  • Yesterday’s dal can become dal paratha, or extra sabzi can be rolled into a whole-wheat wrap, and leftover rice can be made into cutlets with vegetables.
  • It’s fun and nourishing.

7. Stay hydrated wisely

Herbal teas like Chamomile and ginger tea have low-calorie content.(Pexels)

  • Replace sugary sodas with plain water.
  • The other option is light herbal teas for long-term metabolic health.

8. Make your plates balanced

  • An ideal Indian meal could look like this: start with a bowl of kachumber salad (fibre), followed by a serving of dal (plant protein and fibre), one dry sabzi like beans or bhindi (fibre + micronutrients), and a small portion of brown rice or jowar roti (complex carbs with additional fibre).
  • This mix ensures satiety, steady energy release, and a full spectrum of nutrients.

Kate Beckinsale shares moments from late mother’s celebration of life

Kate Beckinsale found saying goodbye to her mother “the hardest thing” she has ever done.

Kate Beckinsale found it hard to say goodbye to her mother

The 51-year-old actress’ mom Judy Loe passed away in July after battling stage four cancer, and the Shooting Fish actress has taken to Instagram to share photos from the “celebration of life” she organised in honour of her beloved parent and praised the outpouring of love shown on the day.

Kate – who has 26-year-old daughter Lily with former partner Michael Sheen – wrote on Instagram: “Dearest Mama, The fact that you have had to have a funeral at all is wrong and ludicrous . You are the biggest lover of life, the most energetic, the most vital , the most joyous.

“The only mandate you gave me over the years was that you wanted a celebration of your life and that no one was to wear black so no one did.

“What I did not anticipate, particularly the night before the funeral where I got two hours sleep on a hard sofa and very much considered not being able to attend because I was afraid I couldn’t handle it ,was that someone would be able to have a funeral that was so full of love and happiness and joy, which is all because of you and who you are and what you brought.

“You are a bridge builder, a hoarder of love, an archiver of precious history ,of respect for years of friendship and my God that showed..

“I think the hardest thing I have ever had to do was say goodbye to you and I haven’t managed it yet, I still reach for my phone in the early hours of the morning to text you and then realise that I won’t get a response.

“The funeral and the party which I will not call a wake afterwards, and which I very much feel you attended in some vaporous way blew the f****** roof off Chiswick House. Everybody danced -from the age of 3 to their mid 80s. Your school friends attended, my school friends attended, Lily‘s school friends attended. The love you inspired ,quietly and generously was awe-inspiring and still is.

“I will never get over the lump of cement in my stomach that I have instead of you. Hopefully, I will learn to carry it better than I am currently carrying it which is clumsily and not well.

“But what you left me was a coterie of extraordinarily brilliant people who, if and when I am ever up to it, I know will provide me a soft place to land.

“At the moment I am so blindsided and devastated that it is safer for me to be on my own but I know from your funeral that the relationships you nurtured so carefully over the years are there for me too and that is another part of your generosity that will live on.

“I love you, Mama. You are in my blood. You are in my bones ,you are in my heart ,broken or not you are there. I love you so much.”

Kate previously announced her mom’s death in Instagram and admitted she was “paralysed” by her loss.

She wrote on Instagram: “I don’t want to post this. I am only posting this because I have had to register my mother‘s death certificate and it will soon become public record.

“She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering. I have not picked all the best photos, nor the best videos, because I cannot bear to go through my camera roll yet.

“I deeply apologise to any of her friends who are finding out this way or through the press, but I cannot go through her phone. I am paralysed.”

Nutritionist shares 5 hydration hacks beyond plain water: Coconut water to buttermilk

by jummy84 September 6, 2025

There’s a popular notion that we only need 8 glasses of water in a day to stay hydrated. However, that’s not true. Hydration is not a one-size-fits-all. In fact, the amount of hydration that the body needs depend on several factors such as age, activity level, climate, and even life stages like pregnancy or breastfeeding. Coconut water is one of the best natural drinks for hydration.(Photo: Adobe Stock)

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Nausheen Shaikh, nutritionist and diet consultant at Alyve Health said, “When you don’t get enough fluids, dehydration can sneak up on you. The good news? Staying hydrated doesn’t have to be boring. Beyond plain water, there are natural, nutrient-rich drinks that not only quench your thirst but also replenish electrolytes, support digestion, and cool your body from within.”

The nutritionist further suggested 5 drinks that help you hydrate better:

1. Coconut water

It is one of the best natural drinks for hydration. Packed with electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and magnesium, it helps replenish lost fluids and keeps your body refreshed. Unlike sugary sports drinks, coconut water is low in calories and free from artificial additives, making it a healthy choice for staying hydrated.

2. Infused water

If plain water tastes boring to you, you can consume infused water with flavour of fresh fruits like apple slices, mint leaves, kiwi slices. You may also add 1 tsp basil seeds to it for cooling effect.

3. Lemon water

The combination of water and fresh lemon juice helps detoxify the body, improve digestion, and maintain hydration levels. Adding a pinch of salt or honey enhances its benefits, making it a perfect drink for hot days. Also read | How to hydrate your skin the right way? Dermatologists share essential tips

4. Buttermilk

Made by mixing curd with water and adding spices like cumin and mint, buttermilk is packed with probiotics that promote gut health while keeping you hydrated and refreshed.

5. Watermelon juice

Watermelon juice helps maintain electrolyte balance, supports digestion, and provides a dose of antioxidants that protect the body from heat and stress. Adding a squeeze of lime or a pinch of black salt enhances its flavour and cooling effects.

“Hydration doesn’t have to feel like a chore; it can be refreshing, flavourful, and nourishing. Swapping a few glasses of plain water with these natural options can help you stay cool, energised, and ready to take on the day,” added Nausheen Shaikh. Erin Bates’ Husband Shares Worrying Update on ‘Bringing Up Bates’ Star After ‘Severe Seizure’

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

After the birth of her seventh baby with husband Chad Paine on August 25, Erin Bates developed a severe UTI and kidney infection, which sent her into septic shock. In the latest update from Paine, he revealed how things have recently taken a turn for the worse.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday (September 4), Paine shared how Erin “suffered a lengthy and severe seizure” on Wednesday night (September 3), leaving her “extremely weak” and “only half conscious.” He noted that his wife is currently in the ICU and “doctors are running scans and tests to determine the cause.”

“Up to this point, Erin’s infection was getting better, but we found ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears,” he wrote in an emotional post alongside photos of himself by his wife’s bedside. “As her husband, it is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced — to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering.”

He went on to say he “can’t even imagine life without my best friend,” adding, “We hold on to faith that healing is coming, even in the midst of the unknown. Your prayers are felt and we are forever grateful.”

Erin, who now shares seven children with Paine, was one of the stars of the reality series Bringing Up Bates, the Up TV series that centered on the daily lives of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, their 19 children, and their extended family. The show ran for ten seasons between 2015 and 2021.

Previously, Paine announced the arrival of baby number seven, Henry Blythe, born on August 25th after “a long and emotional labor,” according to his August 27 Instagram post. “Henry is doing wonderful, but we would so appreciate your prayers for Erin as she continues to recover from some complications,” Paine wrote at the time.

Fans, friends, and family jumped into the comments of Paine’s latest post to share their prayers and well-wishes.

“We are continuing to pray every day for a miraculous healing. Love you all,” wrote Erin’s brother, Lawson Bates.

Lawson’s wife, former Nickelodeon star Tiffany Espensen, added, “Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with you Paine Family ❤️ We love y’all so much!”

“Sweet Erin 😭💔 Praying right now for her complete healing, and will continue!” wrote another.

“Chad, we are upholding you all in prayer daily 🙏🏻,” said one commenter.

Another added, “Thank you so much for taking time to update us. I know this has to be unimaginably hard.”

“This is so hard to read. I’m praying for Erin,” added one user.

Woman lost 14 kg using ChatGPT, shares the exact prompts that helped her lose weight: ‘I wasn’t ready to hit the gym’

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Losing weight is a goal that many people struggle with, often bouncing between fad diets, workout challenges, and endless advice online. The process can feel overwhelming and inconsistent, making it hard to stay motivated. But for one woman named Shilpa Sunil, the key to shedding 14 kg didn’t come from a trainer or a strict plan, it came from ChatGPT. (Also read: Woman who went from 78 kg to 65 kg in 6 months shares her weight loss secrets: ‘Low-intensity walking burns calories’ )

Woman uses ChatGPT to successfully shed 14 kg by tracking daily calorie intake. (Freepik)

How woman lost weight with ChatGPT

In her July 12 Instagram post, she shared the exact prompts she relied on to make her transformation possible.

She explains in her video, “I wasn’t ready to hit the gym, so the only way forward for me was to control my food habits and lifestyle. What I did was turn to ChatGPT. I gave it a prompt with my current weight, the desired weight, the timeline in months, and what I usually eat in a day. On the very first day, I started by calculating the amount of food on my plate, for example, how many spoons of rice or vegetables I was eating and then asked how many calories I should consume daily to achieve my goal.”

Click here to see the video.

What’s the exact prompt she used

Prompt:

Hi ChatGPT, my current weight is [your current weight] kg and my desired weight is [your desired weight] kg. I want to reduce this within [number of months]. My age is [your age]. Please tell me how many calories I should have daily to reach this goal. Also, from today onwards, I will be sharing my daily meal details with approximate quantities like 6 spoons of rice, 6 spoons of vegetables, or 6 spoons of salad. Calculate and tell me the total calorie intake for each day and guide me accordingly to achieve my goal effectively.

Shilpa’s note on the process:

“I used ChatGPT to plan my weight loss. First, I entered my current weight, desired weight, timeline, and age to know my daily calorie intake. Then for the next 3–4 weeks, I logged my meals, like 6 spoons of rice, vegetables, or salad and tracked everything here. This helped me stay within my calorie goal, understand my meals better, and reach my target in a structured way,” she says.

Drake Shares New Songs Featuring Yeat and Cash Cobain

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

As promised, the third installment of Drake‘s Iceman series, which has been streamed live on YouTube, premiered tonight, offering more hints about his upcoming album, Iceman. The stream follows the first two in the series, where Drake unveiled singles “What Did I Miss?” and “Which One.” Tonight, he shared “Somebody Eats Me,” featuring Cash Cobain, who famously contributed to For All The Dogs on “Calling For You.” This new song finds Drake in his Slizzy bag, and Cobain, who recently contributed to Justin Bieber’s album Swag, in prime form, sampling “Somebody Who Loves Me,” from Drake and PartyNextDoor’s collaborative project $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. Drake also premiered a new song with Yeat featuring the singer Julia Wolf.

During the stream, which opened with audio of the Italian easy listening song “Parole Parole” by Mina (almost certainly a cryptic easter egg as the song’s chorus is all about “empty words”), Drizzy saunters through an ominous-looking Italian locale before picking up the phone to call Yeat, who appears in a split frame. Yeat then joins him in another room, handing over what appears to be a file or document. Drake then heads outside into a car where he begins playing a snippet of a new song. The track finds Drake in a familiar register, still clearly fuming over the past year’s beef. “All those summers of slappers you owe me,” he raps before a sped-up beat switch finds him musing on how “they been talkin since 2008.” From the car, Drake then plays a second track that appears to be a freestyle featuring a moody, lo-fi jerk-inspired beat, where we hear him lament how he “aint even know how bad they wanna see me go.”

The stream transitions to an instrumental, where “Parole Parole” is sampled in quintessential Drake fashion, featuring stuttering drums and glittery hi-hats before it’s silent, and we’re in an Italian restaurant, watching a man and woman eat dinner. Four Pinocchio characters enter the room — continuing a motif from Episode 1, where Drake was being chased by Pinocchio — and take their seats at an adjacent table as the instrumental plays louder. A server comes in and places a cube of ice on each of their plates. A tray of red paint is left at the edge of the table, and one of the Pinnochios writes the word “Legacy” on the white tablecloth, before they each toss their ice cubes onto the table and leave their seats, and the server comes in and dumps a whole bucket of ice on the scrawled letters.

Editor’s picks

In the next scene, a young woman appears in a room and gives Drake a hug, before he launches into snippets of new upbeat, club-ready songs, before returning to the car and playing his new song featuring Cash Cobain. Drake was infamously slated to perform at Cash Cobain’s Slizzy Fest in New York last year, before overwhelming crowds caused the show to get shut down. Speaking to Rolling Stone about his collaboration with Bieber, Cobain said he had “some shit that was going to pop out” for the festival and that he “never got over that.” So, it’s good to see him back in tune with The Boy for this new single.

After the Cash Cobain snippet, we see Drake in what appears to be an Italian courtroom, surrounded by spectators, before a Pinocchio figure appears. Drake quickly scrambles out of the room and heads to the club, where new songs featuring Yeat and pop singer Julia Wolf are playing. At the end of the stream, Drake confronts three Pinocchio figures before the screen cuts to the title page with an inscripted tribute to the late designer Giorgio Armani, who passed away earlier today.

The stream caps off a week where Drake returned to podcast host Bobbi Althoff’s new show Not This Again, where he offered little in terms of details about new music but, as some fans pointed out online, might have alluded to episode 3 of Iceman.

Iceman is set to be Drake’s first solo release since his widely publicized feud with Kendrick Lamar (as well as a sizeable portion of the mainstream rap world) that culminated with Lamar’s now infamous diss track “Not Like Us,” which, among other things, alleges that Drake “Likes them young” and is a “certified pedophile.” The track is at the center of Drake’s current lawsuit against UMG, in which he claims the label heavily promoted the track despite knowing it contained defamatory material. The lawsuit is currently in the discovery phase, with the possibility of a trial in summer 2026 in the event that both sides can’t reach a settlement.
