Woman who lost 70+ kgs shares 7 things she’ll never do again for weight loss: ‘No more strict diet rules, just food…’

Losing weight can be a challenging journey, filled with trial and error, fad diets, and sometimes unhealthy shortcuts. Many people learn important lessons only after facing setbacks or unexpected results. A woman named Kate Daniel, who successfully lost over 70 kgs, shares in her Instagram post 7 things she will never do again for weight loss, offering valuable insights for anyone trying to shed pounds safely and sustainably. (Also read: Woman who lost 70+ kgs shares 5 daily habits that helped her lose weight and keep it off: ‘The real challenge was…’ )

Kate shares 7 things she’ll never so again on her weight loss journey.(Instagram/@bariatric_chic)

Kate opens up about her long struggle with weight loss. “I spent years stuck in the same cycle, starting a new diet every Monday, telling myself this time would be different, only to end up right back where I started. I tried everything, every diet, tracking every calorie, punishing myself with workouts, obsessing over the scale, and none of it worked long term,” she says.

She adds, “It wasn’t just about eating less, it was about relearning how to think about food, movement, and my body. Here are 7 things I’ll never do again and why it changed everything.”

Let’s take a look at her recommendations:

1. Stopped the ‘start over Monday’ mentality

Kate says, “One off meal doesn’t erase progress. Every choice is a chance to move forward, not a reason to restart. Letting go of all-or-nothing thinking changed everything.”

2. Ate to fuel, not deprive

She shares, “After bariatric surgery, it’s about giving my body what it needs, not punishing it. No more strict diet rules, just food that makes me feel good.”

3. Moved for strength, not punishment

According to Kate, “Movement became something I get to do, not have to do. It’s about feeling strong, energised, and capable, not just burning calories.”

4. Freed myself from scale

She explains, “The number doesn’t define me. I measure progress through energy, confidence, and how I feel in my body, not a fluctuating number.”

5. Trusted hunger and fullness cues

Kate adds, “I stopped ignoring my body. No more eating because it’s ‘time’ or stopping because an app says so. I trust my own hunger and fullness signals.”

6. Took action despite overthinking

She says, “I used to wait for the perfect moment. Now, I act even when it’s messy and progress beats perfection every time.”

7. Embraced lifelong learning

Kate explains, “Weight loss isn’t a finish line. My body, mind, and needs keep evolving. Thriving means staying open, learning, and growing constantly.”

Couple therapist shares the biggest sign of healthy relationship: ‘It’s not about how much you love your partner’

Love is often seen as the foundation of any romantic relationship, yet it’s not the only factor that determines whether a partnership thrives. Baya Voce, a relationship expert and couples therapist, shares in one of her Instagram posts the biggest sign that shows a relationship is genuinely healthy.

A couple therapist shares the key sign that shows a relationship is genuinely healthy and resilient.(Pixabay)

What’s the true sign of a healthy relationship

Baya explains that the biggest sign of a healthy relationship isn’t how much you love each other, how often you have sex, or whether you fight. “It’s how you make up. That’s the difference,” she says.

According to her, in healthy relationships, conflict doesn’t feel like the end of the world. “It feels like Tuesday. You get off track, and you both know how to come back. The biggest sign of relational health is that you can rupture and recover without one person turning into a courtroom lawyer and the other person climbing out of the bathroom window,” Baya explains.

She adds, “It means you can say, ‘That hurt me,’ without your partner saying, ‘Well, maybe you’re just too sensitive.’ It means you can be mad without making it unsafe, and you can disagree without it becoming a character assassination.”

How do healthy couples navigate conflict

Healthy couples, she points out, don’t avoid disconnection they expect it. “They know how to move through it. They trust each other to make their way back together so that when inevitable ruptures happen, you’re not constantly worried about whether or not you’re going to be able to feel heard or understood or get what you need. You actually know you will. It might just take some time,” Baya says.

She advises, “So if you’re asking, ‘Is this relationship healthy?’ don’t just look at the good days. Look at what happens after a fight, a misstep, after someone totally blows it. Do they come back and repair it with accountability, willingness, and some version of, ‘Okay, that was a hot mess, let’s try again.’ That’s the sign. Not perfection, not performance, just two people who are committed to finding their way back to each other over and over and over again.”

Harvard gastroenterologist shares 3 foods to avoid that cause fatty liver: ‘Sodas and juices are liquid poison…’

written by jummy84

Cases of fatty liver are on the rise, largely fueled by poor dietary habits and processed foods. While the condition can have serious long-term consequences, simple changes to what you eat can significantly reduce fat accumulation in the liver and lower the risk of liver disease.

According to Dr. Saurabh Sethi, sugary drinks and processed foods are detrimental to liver health.(Unsplash)

Gastroenterologist Dr Saurabh Sethi, trained at AIIMS, Harvard and Stanford universities, is breaking down the role of unhealthy nutrition choices that contribute to the accumulation of fat in the liver. In an Instagram video posted on September 9, the gut doctor revealed three common food choices that are detrimental to your liver health and should be avoided in order to protect your liver, stressing that simple dietary changes make a big difference.

Sugary drinks

According to Dr Sethi, sugary drinks like sodas and juices “are loaded with empty calories and can severely damage your liver, contributing to fatty liver disease.” Sugary drinks, especially those containing high-fructose corn syrup, contribute to insulin resistance and liver fat accumulation by overwhelming the liver’s ability to process fructose, leading to fat buildup and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, according to a study published in Hepatology Communications.

The gastroenterologist dubs soft drinks as “liquid poison” and recommends sticking to water, sparkling water, tea or coffee, as they are much healthier choices.

Deep-fried foods

Second on Dr Sethi’s list are deep-fried foods. He states, “deep-fried foods, especially those cooked in unhealthy oils, should be avoided,” to reduce liver fat because they are high in unhealthy trans fats and saturated fats, which lead to fat accumulation, inflammation, obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, according to Chennai Liver Foundation.

Ultra-processed foods

Lastly, Dr Sethi explains, “Items like chips, candies, sugary cereals, hot dogs, and instant noodles are highly processed and detrimental to liver health.” Ultra-processed foods are high in unhealthy fats, added sugars, and artificial additives that strain the liver, as per Hepatitis NSW, and can contribute to liver inflammation and disruption of the gut microbiome.

Bollywood’s Khiladi, Akshay Kumar, turned 58 on August 10, and while the industry poured in wishes from stars like Kareena Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, and Ajay Devgn, all eyes were on what Twinkle Khanna would post. As always, she didn’t disappoint, adding her trademark wit and a dash of quirk to Akshay’s big day.

Twinkle Khanna’s birthday wish for Akshay Kumar

On Wednesday, Twinkle took to Instagram and shared a picture from the celebration where the couple turned the party into a laugh riot. Twinkle dressed in red, sporting a Joker nose and holding up a giant Joker card cut-out, while Akshay stunned in black with funky card-themed shades. Posing cheek-to-cheek, the duo looked every bit the playful pair fans adore.

Alongside the photo, Twinkle penned, “Birthday celebrations that started at 7 a.m. and ended with cards and karaoke in the evening. The birthday boy is known for always winning. I wonder if it’s because he has a certain joker by his side, if not in his hand. :)”

Fans couldn’t get enough of their banter. Comments poured in with, “the pic of the day,” “haha this is so cute,” and “this man is Iron Man and ma’am you are magnetic. Couple goals.” One follower summed it up perfectly: “idk how you come up with such witty captions everytime.”

Akshay also celebrated his birthday with his fans at a fan fest where he interacted with them and asked them to keep him in their prayers. Twinkle also accompanied him and during the event, she asked if Akshay loves her or his fans more, to which Akshay said fans. Sharing the video, he wrote, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to each and every one of you… Those who came and those who couldn’t come send their love from a distance. This day would not be so special without all of you. It wasn’t just my birthday, it was a celebration of all of us ❤️ Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love. Big love always, my Akkians.”

Even friends from the industry joined the celebrations virtually. Suniel Shetty shared a throwback moment with Akshay, writing, “Akkiiii…from madness to memories, from hustle to hugs, we have seen it all together. Here’s to many more laughs and crazy times ahead. Wishing you a happy happy birthday.” Ajay Devgn also dropped a nostalgic picture, while Kareena Kapoor called him her “favourite” in a sweet wish.

Akshay and Twinkle first met during a Filmfare magazine photoshoot in the 1990s and later reconnected on the sets of International Khiladi. Sparks flew quickly, and the couple tied the knot on 17 January 2001 in an intimate ceremony with close family and friends. Parents to Aarav and Nitara, they are loved for their playful banter and steady bond that only grows stronger with time.

Beauty from within! Par Olive founder Olivia Boyd-Smith gave ET an inside look at her celeb-approved wellness rituals while celebrating the launch of her Marine Collagen Superpowders on FWRD.

The Australian entrepreneur set out to find a simple solution for glowing skin, strong nails, and glossy hair — and teamed up with a dermatologist to create her own.

Par Olive

“I wanted a collagen that was wild-caught and single origin (never farmed), blended with Vitamin C for absorption, and pearl powder for luminosity,” she explains.

From there, the creative director began to see the outcome she desired.

“When women see results they can actually see and feel, it becomes a mainstay in their beauty ritual,” Smith notes.

Among those loyal fans? Victoria Beckham and Martha Stewart. “It holds the same standards they demand from everything else in their routine,” she adds.

As for her own regimen, Smith gravitates toward practices that feel both indulgent and restorative.

Her morning must-have: “I always start my day with what I call my skin bowl, which includes sprouted granola, walnuts, goji berries, and two teaspoons of our Unflavoured Marine Collagen Superpowder.”

From there, Smith is off to enjoy her broader wellness lineup, filled with infrared sauna sessions, lymphatic drainage massages, LED light therapy, regular facials at Contrapposto in Los Angeles, California, and Pilates workouts.

Still, finding time for balance is just as important. “I try to lean away from following trends and more into taking moments to tune back into myself. … I’m a believer in relishing time with friends and loved ones. I love dinners out, a beautiful glass of wine, pizza, and gelato.”

Jasmine.4.t shares new single ‘I Can’t Believe I Did This Without You’

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Jasmine.4.t has shared a new single called ‘I Can’t Believe I Did This Without You’. Listen below.

The song will feature on the deluxe edition of the Manchester singer-songwriter’s debut album ‘You Are The Morning’, which arrives this Friday (September 12) via Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records.

It’ll appear alongside four more new tracks: ‘Please Can We Hold Each Other Yesterday’, ‘Find Ur Ppl’, ‘I Don’t Think Anyone Else Could Hold The Same Place In My Heart’ and ‘Did U No’.

“‘I Can’t Believe I Did This Without You’ and ‘I Don’t Think Anyone Else Could Hold The Same Place In My Heart’ are two new songs on this release that I wrote during the LA recording sessions for the album, up on the roof of Sound City Studio between takes,” explained Jasmine.4.t (real name Jasmine Cruickshank).

“I recorded five songs as demos and sent them as a thank you to my bandmates and producers after returning home to Manchester from LA. It’s nice to have more polished versions of these two.”

Cruickshank described ‘Please Can We Hold Each Other Yesterday’ as “a more recent ode to lost time with loved ones”. She added: “I demoed this track on my phone and Steph Marziano (the awesome producer of these new tracks) liked it so much, as it was, that she suggested we didn’t re-record it and release it as is.”

‘Find Ur Ppl’ is about meeting political prisoner Yulia Trot (aka YBT) – who “this deluxe version of my record is dedicated to”.

“I met Yulia at the first queer event I ever attended,” Cruickshank said. “It was six months after I had come out, and I was still living in Bristol but staying with friends in Manchester.”

She added: “‘Find Ur Ppl’ is a song about meeting Yulia and the Manchester community, which feels vitally important given how many young trans people are in danger, isolated and in need of the safe haven of queer camaraderie.”

‘Did U No’, meanwhile, is YBT’s “favourite”. Jasmine.4.t recalled: “I visited Yulia in prison during the recording session for this track, and I remember crying, screaming, and channelling my rage at the state into the vocals when I returned to the studio that evening.

“We had planned to record “Did U No” for the album originally, as it was also a favourite of Phoebe’s, but sadly we ran out of time in LA. It is such a joy, now, to be able to finally get it down.”

She continued: “I love how these tracks have turned out, with the help of Steph and the incredible band line-up that I have been playing live with this summer – Phoenix Rousiamanis on violin and keys, Maeve Westall on drums, and Emily Abbott on bass.

“Now when I sing these songs, I am singing them to my best friend, my mother, my sister, my daughter – the political prisoner Yulia Trot. Of all the things that I have lived through, nothing has felt as big as losing her. I hope that one day she will be able to hear these recordings. I hope that one day she, all of her co-defendants, and all of Palestine, will be free.”

The full tracklist for Jasmine.4.t’s ‘You Are The Morning (YBT Deluxe)’ is:

1. ‘Kitchen’

2. ‘Skin On Skin’
3. ‘Highfield’
4. ‘Breaking In Reverse’
5. ‘You Are The Morning’
6. ‘Best Friend’s House’
7. ‘Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation’
8. ‘Tall Girl’
9. ‘New Shoes’
10. ‘Roan’
11. ‘Elephant’
12. ‘Transition’
13. ‘Woman’
14. ‘Please Can We Hold Each Other Yesterday’
15. ‘Find Ur Ppl’
16. ‘I Can’t Believe I Did This Without You’
17. ‘I Don’t Think Anyone Else Could Hold The Same Place In My Heart’
18. ‘Did U No’

The original version of ‘You Are The Morning’ was produced by Bridgers and her Boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.

Yulia Trot previously toured with Jasmine.4.t as a roadie/security. “One evening in November 2024, while we were recording a live session for 6 Music, we heard news that Yulia had been arrested that day in a violent raid on her home,” Cruickshank remembered.

“She is one of the Filton 24, arrestees alleged to be connected with a group of actionists entering the UK headquarters of Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit systems in August 2024, where £1million worth of damage was said to be caused. This included killer Israeli drones that have been reported to target Palestinian children in Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”

She went on: “Our beloved Yulia was initially arrested under terrorism law in a gross misuse of legislation that allowed heavy-handed police powers. She was then charged with the non-terror offences of burglary and trespass, but transferred as a political prisoner to a maximum security private prison on the other side of the country, away from her family and friends, where she will be held on remand for a total of two years until her trial.”

Jasmine.4.t is calling on fans to support Trot’s friends and family with visit costs. You can read more at freeyulia.com and follow @freethefilton24 on Instagram.

Speaking to NME earlier this year, Cruickshank said: “What more could you want as a queer musician? To be signed to Saddest Factory is a dream come true.

“Phoebe has fought my corner and has gotten me so many opportunities. It comes from a place of friendship but also a place of solidarity. I feel like those guys really get how shit is for trans women, especially in this country. I think they are kind of unsung heroes.”

Since releasing her debut album, Jasmine.4.t has supported Lucy Dacus and made appearances at festivals such as Green Man, Reading & Leeds and End Of The Road.

She’ll soon embark on a run of headline shows in North America, Europe, Australia and the UK. See the full list of UK/Ireland dates below, and find any remaining tickets here.

NOVEMBER 2025
11 – Scala, London
12 – Thekla, Bristol
13 – The Art School, Glasgow
15 – Academy 2, Dublin
16 – Gorilla, Manchester

In a review of Jasmine.4.t’s Reading 2025 slot, NME said it was “the latest in a long line of completely deserved highlights” for the artist. The round-up also praised the “searing, joyous and moving set that did everything from encouraging community and care, to reminding us to use our voices against the injustices in the world”.

Cardiologist warns of high heart attack risks after menopause; shares 5 signs: Neck pain, irregular heartbeats and more

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Menopause is one of the major health milestones in a woman’s life, a significant transition. It involves a lot of hormonal fluctuation as periods stop, bringing symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings that many are familiar with. But these hormonal shifts also tend to pose a more fatal risk, too: a heart attack.

Heart attack tendencies increase in women after menopause. (Shutterstock)

ALSO READ: Gynaecologist shares 5 tips to manage menopause symptoms: Eat flax seeds, exercise 150 minutes per week and more

To understand why menopausal women become vulnerable to heart attacks, HT Lifestyle spoke to Dr Anand R Shenoy, consultant- interventional cardiology, Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, who revealed that the sharp decrease in estrogen after menopause is one of the culprits. Estrogen is a vital hormone that helps support heart health.

Explaining more about how estrogen’s dip plays a role in surging the risks, the cardiologist said, ”Estrogen helps keep blood vessels relaxed, increases blood flow, and lowers bad cholesterol levels. As estrogen levels fall dramatically, blood pressure rises, cholesterol levels shift, and fat increases around the heart, all of which lead to a greater risk of heart attack. Menopause-related symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats have been associated with cardiac disease.”

To add to this, heart attacks in women are stealthy and tricky. According to Dr Shenoy, women have a ‘lower perception of the risks.’ This is alarming as it leads to underdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis. Primarily because the symptoms are not always traditional, they are a bit different and may even overlap with other health conditions.

The cardiologist further added how women can be more aware,
“To help avoid cardiovascular event possibilities, women should track their blood pressure weekly; participate in annual comprehensive cardiac screenings; recognise the signs and symptoms of a heart attack; and follow advice with proactive lifestyle changes. Tracking of signs and symptoms can provide early intervention and heart attack prevention during these vulnerable periods.”

So, as a menopausal woman, what should you do? Be aware of the red-flag signs and follow a healthy lifestyle.

Dr Shenoy shared a brief guide, covering 5 signs to help detect early and 5 prevention tips:

5 warning signs menopausal women should know

Dizziness is one of the symptoms of a heart attack among women. (Shutterstock)
Dizziness is one of the symptoms of a heart attack among women. (Shutterstock)
  1. Chest pain or discomfort: Instead of the regular crushing pain, females tend to experience more of a typical chest discomfort in addition to pain in the back, neck, jaw, or arms.
  2. Shortness of breath: Breathing difficulty while engaging in light physical activity.
  3. Palpitations: Irregular heartbeats or feeling skipped heartbeats.
  4. Dizziness or light-headedness: Feeling faint and unsteady.
  5. Fatigue: Unusual tiredness or weakness.

Prevention and management tips

Ensure you are exercising at least 150 minutes every week.(Shutterstock)
Ensure you are exercising at least 150 minutes every week.(Shutterstock)

1. Exercise:

  • The aim is to be at the ideal body weight, BMI

2. Diet:

  • Have a balanced diet containing fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein.
  • Minimise consumption of saturated fat, sugars and sodium.

3. Stress:

  • Use stress-relieving techniques such as meditation, yoga, and deep breathing.

4. Sleep:

  • Good quality sleep will help manage stress and cardiovascular health.
  • It is essential to get good quality sleep (ideally 7-8 hours) each night.

5. Quit smoking

  • Giving up smoking will decrease your chances of heart disease and improve your overall health.

This risk factor is applicable to both peri and post-menopausal women, as the cardiologist said, “To decrease the risk of heart disease during menopause, all peri and post-menopausal women should be assessed for risk factors and educated on heart-healthy lifestyle interventions to attempt to have optimum cardiovascular health.”

For the uninformed, post-menopause means when a woman hasn’t had any periods for 12 consecutive months, while perimenopause is the stage leading up to menopause, when typical symptoms like hot flashes and irregular periods start to show up. This phase can span the last few years of a woman’s menstruating years. So, the risk factors extend not only to women who have stopped menstruating and already reached menopause but also to those who are about to reach it.

As per the Cleveland Clinic‘s report, the perimenopause stage begins 10 years prior to final menopause, narrowing down the age to around mid-forties, with the average period being from four to eight years. So for better precautions, women late 30s onwards need to embrace heart-healthy habits and also seek medical attention if they spot any worrisome signs.

Yasmin Williams Shares Statement on Decision to Perform at Trump-Led Kennedy Center

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Last week, Yasmin Williams announced a free show at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC on September 18. Now the Virginian composer and guitarist—who posted screenshots of a heated email exchange with Kennedy Center president Richard Grenell in April, and later elaborated on the experience in an interview with Pitchfork—has shared a statement explaining her decision.

According to Williams, her upcoming performance was planned prior to President Donald J. Trump’s overhaul of the Kennedy Center board of trustees. “I’m doing the show for all the Kennedy Center staff who formed their own union and are still working there, fighting to maintain the institution’s integrity,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m doing it for the folks who were unjustifiably fired. I’m doing it for the elderly ushers who were told to not wear masks publicly while working, even facing backlash from higher ups if they wore one.” Read Williams’ full message below.

In February, President Trump was elected chairman of the Kennedy Center. He named Grenell as interim executive director and dismissed all 18 Democratic appointees from the traditionally bipartisan board of trustees. This led Ben Folds to step down from his role as artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra. Dozens of artists, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rhiannon Giddens, and Issa Rae, subsequently cancelled their scheduled performances.

Williams emailed Grenell directly to inquire whether the Kennedy Center’s “hiring practices, performance booking, and staffing” would be meaningfully impacted following the shakeup. In the ensuing back-and-forth, Grenell accused artists of cancelling shows “because they couldn’t be in the presence of republicans.” “I remember saying that I didn’t think that was the right thing to do,” Williams told Pitchfork at the time. “I thought that artists should continue to play there, mainly because I know a lot of people who work there and their incomes were being really, really negatively impacted from artists canceling shows.”

Williams shared her latest album, Acadia, in 2024. Last month, President Trump announced the first class of Kennedy Center honorees since he took over as chair. Gloria Gaynor, Kiss, George Strait, Sylvester Stallone, and British actor Michael Crawford will be recognized at the annual Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in December.

Yasmin Williams:

I recently announced that I’m playing at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on September 18th. Some folks seem confused with this decision, so I’ll explain why I decided to go through with the show.
