French biochemist reveals how movement helps balance glucose spikes after meals, shares 4 tips: ‘Household chores like…’

Sitting down and relaxing immediately after meals can spike glucose levels. Instead, Jesse Inchauspé recommends 4 daily activities to help balance spikes.

Glucose-rich meals can cause sharp spikes in blood sugar, leaving the body struggling to bring levels back to balance. While many people instinctively sit down or relax after eating, this habit can actually worsen the problem. Simple physical movement – even light daily chores – can make a significant difference in curbing these spikes and supporting healthier glucose control.

Jessie Inchauspé, a French biochemist, NYT bestselling author, and health activist popularly known as the Glucose Goddess on social media, highlights why moving after glucose-rich meals is key to balancing out blood sugar spikes. In an Instagram video posted on October 2, she explains how physical activity impacts blood glucose levels, recommending simple movements – even everyday household chores – that can help lower both glucose and insulin levels.

Why moving helps balance glucose spikes

According to Jesse, your muscles contract due to movement, and this helps them absorb glucose faster. She explains, “When your muscles contract, for example, if you’re walking, you’re squatting, you’re cleaning your apartment, after you eat something high in glucose, your muscles will uptake the glucose from that meal without needing insulin.” She stresses that it is important to keep your insulin levels low in order to prevent spikes. “So, just 10 minutes of movement after a meal can help you reduce your glucose spike of the meal without increasing your insulin levels, which is two birds, one stone,” Jesse adds.

Recommended movements

Glucose and insulin spikes can be avoided by performing simple movements, and even daily household chores can help. Besides chores, activities like walking and performing air squats are effective in lowering glucose spikes. Jesse recommends the following:

  • Walking for 10 minutes.
  • Calf raises (also known as soleus push-ups).
  • Household chores like vacuuming, folding laundry, washing dishes, cleaning the bathroom.
  • Air squats.

Henry Cavill Shares Photos Of Leg Rehab: “In Enduring, Grow Strong”

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Henry Cavill seems to be on the mend – or at least in the gym – as evidenced by a series of Instagram photos posted by the star of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists Highlander reboot.

Last month, Cavill suffered a leg injury while training for the film – as first reported by Deadline – prompting a production delay on the Chad Stahelski directed reboot until after the first of the year.

In the new series of photos, which show a fit-looking Cavill’s left leg in a brace below the knee, the actor is seen working out at the gym – definitely a leg day – and, in one pic, having his ankle taped and with what could be muscle stimulators attached to his calf.

See the photos below.

The series of photos is captioned, “Endure. In enduring, grow strong,” a quote from the character Dak’kon from the video game Planescape: Torment.

On September 19, Cavill posted an Instagram pic of his leg propped up on a table with what appears to be a heavy bandage or possibly even a cast around his ankle. For that caption, he used the 1888 poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley (the one with “I am the master of my fate/I am the captain of my soul.”)

The upcoming Highlander movie is written by Michael Finch and also stars Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista and Max Zhang.

AIIMS-trained doctor shares ‘8 snacks to have instead of Coke and Pepsi to avoid liver damage’

When you go out, do you always end up ordering carbonated soft drinks that are full of sugar? If yes, you may not be making the best choice for your overall health. Several studies have proven that consuming sugar-sweetened drinks can lead to health complications like weight gain, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, diabetes, tooth decay, and more.

But what is the alternative? Dr Saurabh Sethi, MD, MPH, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford Universities, revealed eight snacks that he recommends to his patients as alternatives to carbonated soft drinks, such as Coke and Pepsi.

8 better snacks to choose instead of sugar-sweetened drinks

Sharing the 8 snacks/drinks he recommends to his patients instead of Coke and Pepsi, Dr Sethi warned, “Sodas damage your gut and liver over time.” Let’s find out what other drinks you can have without harming your health:

1. Sparkling water with lime/lemon

Dr Sethi recommends sparkling water with lime/lemon as it has the same fizz that sugar carbonated drinks offer without the sugar or artificial sweeteners to damage your gut or liver.

2. Unsweetened iced tea

Polyphenols present in teas support gut and liver health without the sugar crash, per the gastroenterologist.

3. Infused water (with cucumber, mint, or berries, and more)

According to Dr Sethi, drinking infused water in place of soft drinks not only boosts hydration and provides antioxidants, but it is also a refreshing and natural alternative.

4. Kombucha (low-sugar variant)

Dr Sethi recommends kombucha because it contains fermented probiotics that support the gut microbiome.

5. Coconut water (no added sugar)

“Electrolytes + hydration[in coconut water] make it a natural alternative to soda,” the gastroenterologist wrote, as he recommended coconut water.

6. Green or black tea

Dr Sethi suggests having green or black tea with or without a splash of milk (dairy or plant-based) as the polyphenols and gentle caffeine present in them support gut and liver health.

7. Coffee

“Black or with a splash of milk (dairy or plant-based) → antioxidants linked to lower liver disease risk,” he recommended.

8. Plain water

Lastly, Dr Sethi pointed out that above all the other drinks, plain water is still the best drink for gut, liver, and metabolic health.

Cult fit founder shares 4 exercises to do for strong knees if your parents are struggling to walk now

by jummy84 October 1, 2025

As our parents or grandparents grow older, their ability to perform certain daily activities also depletes. For women, their bones grow weak, especially if they don’t work out regularly or do strength training. According to Mayo Clinic, loss of estrogen in women due to menopause and lower testosterone levels in men increases bone loss and can also lead to the development of osteoporosis.

Training your knees isn’t just for the gym—it’s for everyday life. This is how you move better, without pain holding you back.

Diving straight into strength training may not be a plausible route for many. In a September 22 Instagram video, Rishabh Telang, co-founder of Cult Fit, shared 4 exercises that he makes his 63-year-old mother do to build stronger knees. So, even if you are going to the gym or just starting out, these exercises could help you move better.

4 exercises for stronger knees

Sharing the videos featuring the 4 exercises, the Cult Fit founder wrote, “You shouldn’t have to think twice before taking the stairs, kneeling on the floor, or walking longer distances. Training your knees isn’t just for the gym—it’s for everyday life. This is how you move better, without pain holding you back.”

1. Hip thrusts

In this assisted form of hip thrust exercise, lie down on the floor near an elevated surface like a sofa, and keep your heels on the edge of the sofa. Now, with your palms resting on the floor, lift your hips off the floor and thrust them up in the air. Repeat this motion to do the exercise.

2. Leg raises

This is another form of assisted exercise, where you can ask your parents to sit on the edge of the sofa or a chair, with a straight spine, thighs parallel to the ground, and feet firmly placed. Now, raise your legs in the air, parallel to the ground, and repeat the motion for each leg.

3. Calf raises

To do this exercise, stand in front of an armchair, and using it for balance, do the calf raises by lifting your heel off the ground and balancing your body on your toes. You feel the pull in your calves. Keep your spine straight for the routine.

4. Feet raises

Sit on a chair or a sofa. Now, while keeping your spine straight, raise your toes off the ground with your heels placed on the floor.

When Allu Arjun described his upcoming film (working title A22XA6) with director Atlee as, ‘very international presentation with total Indian sensibilities,’ few could envision what he meant. The latest is that Japanese-British breakdancer and choreographer Hokuto Konishi is also part of the project. He shared several BTS pictures from the film sets, and fans couldn’t stop raving about the magnitude of the project.

Allu Arjun’s film has been progressing briskly in Mumbai over the last three months. Although members of the cast and crew have taken frequent breaks and have paused the work, we have learnt that the schedule is still on. The spotlight has once again turned on the film with Hokuto Konishi revealing that he has been working on the A22XA6 project for over a month. He has always been so curious about the Indian film industry, and so this was definitely the best dive right into the deep end. Although Hokuto is not at liberty to talk about the project, he promises that the film is going to be ‘insanely massive.’ Hokuto shares that his experience of delving deep into a new film industry and understanding different cultures is liberating.

Mumbai schedule, a long haul

According to sources close to the unit, director Atlee intends to complete major sequences involving international technicians and actors in Mumbai. He feels that logistically, Mumbai is a comfortable place for production and to work with the global crew. As such, the shooting schedule in Mumbai has been a long haul. “Several technicians and stuntmen are presently in Mumbai working on the film at a specially built VFX set. Allu Arjun has been taking frequent breaks and travelling to Hyderabad and other places while Mumbai continues to be his workplace.”

Cardiologist shares how he overcame years of knee pain with yoga, says he ‘can’t even remember which knee used to hurt’

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Whether caused by long commutes, poor posture, weight issues or sports injuries, knee pain has become an increasingly common complaint across all age groups. The discomfort can linger for years and affect quality of life. Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, cardiologist and founder of Narayana Health India, recently shared in a September 29 podcast with MyGov how yoga helped him overcome knee pain. (Also read: Cardiologist shares fastest way to burn dangerous visceral fat, reveals what happens in just 12 hours if you fast )

Dr Prasad shares how yoga alleviated his knee pain after years of discomfort. (Freepik)

How yoga helped Dr Prasad overcome knee pain

Explaining how it all began, Dr Prasad says, “I think about 55 or so I started getting knee pain and my wife kept telling me that you know I should start yoga. I’m not exaggerating. Maybe 2, 3 months of yoga, the pain completely disappeared.”

Reflecting on his recovery, he adds, “Today, if you ask me whether it was my right knee or left knee, I have forgotten. And after that, every alternative day, I do yoga. And I can tell you that today when I operate, sometimes we stand for a long time. I can see my assistants, who are my children’s age, they are taking a break, and I can continuously stand like a horse. So it’s a very, very powerful tool.”

Dr Prasad also recalls his younger days, saying, “As a young man, as a medical student, I used to be a bodybuilder, martial artist.” Despite his earlier fitness, knee pain still crept in later in life, but yoga proved to be the simple, effective solution he needed.

What research reveals

According to a 2018 study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychiatry, one-week integrated approach of yoga therapy (IAYT) significantly improved various physical and functional outcomes in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. Participants in the yoga group showed notable reductions in the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test time, improved handgrip strength, and enhanced knee flexion and extension, compared to the control group.

These findings suggest that yoga can be an effective, accessible, and cost-effective intervention for managing knee osteoarthritis symptoms.

AIIMS gastroenterologist shares hack ‘to turn eggs into an anti-inflammatory powerhouse’: Check his full recipe

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Eggs are one of nature’s protein-packed gifts: they’re delicious, cheap, and versatile. If you love eggs, then there are a few things that could be better than a perfectly cooked egg, making them a healthy option for breakfast and beyond. But do you usually eat eggs plain, or do you try adding anti-inflammatory ingredients? Also read | AIIMS gastroenterologist ranks popular breakfasts for gut health on a scale of 1 to 10: Upma, overnight oats, granola

Incorporate anti-inflammatory ingredients into eggs to make them healthier. Here’s what Dr Saurabh Sethi suggested. (Freepik)

Gut-friendly, anti-inflammatory eggs recipe

In a September 28 Instagram post, Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford Universities, said, “Most people think eggs are just protein. But as a gastroenterologist, here is how I turned them into a gut-friendly, anti-inflammatory powerhouse in 5 steps.” He added, “Save this recipe, try it out, and don’t forget to share with your family and friends.”

Here’s what he recommends:

Step 1

Dr Sethi said, “First, crack in two whole eggs. For most people, up to two yolks a day is perfectly fine. The cholesterol scare around eggs is outdated science.”

Step 2

“Add a pinch of turmeric for anti-inflammatory power and black pepper to activate it. That combo is my secret gut-friendly hack,” Dr Sethi said.

Step 3

He added: “Don’t forget salt, but keep it light.”

Step 4

“Load your eggs with veggies. Tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and even olives. (0:41) This adds fibre, antioxidants, and healthy fats that your gut microbes love,” Dr Sethi said.

Step 5

He concluded, “Cook them gently. Scrambled, omelette, however you like. Avoid drowning them in oil. Let the ingredients shine.”

I carried you for 41 weeks with a lot on my shoulders. A lot of people laughed and joked about a special time in my life, while I stood tall for you against so many. I protected you while you formed inside me. You’re everything I thought you would be. I walked you down with nine pushes and my chin high, and you came out and didn’t cry. I was born again and blessed with a twin. I love you so much, girl. I’ll do it over and over again.”

AIIMS gastroenterologist warns against ‘having coffee on empty stomach’, shares 7 worst coffee habits to avoid for gut

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Coffee is one of the most loved beverages worldwide, with millions relying on it to kick-start their mornings or power through long days. But while that cup of coffee may feel like a saviour, certain everyday habits around it can quietly harm your health in the long run.

Avoid these coffee mistakes to protect your gut health and sleep quality. (Pixabay)

Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford Universities, in his September 28 Instagram post, breaks down the 7 worst coffee habits you need to avoid. Here is what he said:

1. Coffee on an empty stomach

Starting your day with coffee instead of food can increase stomach acid production, leading to reflux, nausea, bloating, and even gastritis if it becomes a daily routine.

2. Sugar, creamers and syrups

That flavoured latte may taste indulgent, but it often carries 30–50 grams of hidden sugar. Regular intake adds excess calories, promotes fatty liver, and raises the risk of diabetes.

3. More than four cups a day

Crossing 400 mg of caffeine daily (about four cups) can spike cortisol levels, irritate the gut lining, and cause palpitations, jitteriness, and anxiety.

4. Late-night coffee

Since caffeine has a half-life of 5–6 hours, an evening cup can interfere with deep sleep cycles. Poor sleep hampers the liver’s natural detox and repair processes.

5. Using coffee to mask fatigue

Relying on caffeine to power through exhaustion instead of addressing poor sleep worsens burnout. Over time, it contributes to brain fog, hormonal imbalance, and digestive stress.

6. Artificial sweeteners

“Zero calories” doesn’t mean safe. Sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame may disturb gut microbes, disrupt digestion, and impact long-term gut health.

7. Light roast doesn’t mean gentler

It’s a common myth that lighter roasts are easier on the stomach. In reality, dark roasts tend to be less acidic and may be better tolerated by those prone to reflux or GERD.
