The Pearl Jam frontman has been running his own California-based festival since 2016, and was joined by his backing band, The Earthlings, to headline the festival’s first night.

It marked the first time in two years that he and his Earthlings bandmates – who include The Frames‘ Glen Hansard, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and former RHCP guitarist (and current Pearl Jam touring member) Josh Klinghoffer, Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and guitarist Andrew Watt – have performed onstage together.

To mark the occasion, they delivered a cover-heavy set alongside some Pearl Jam classics, kicking off Friday night’s (September 26) gig with a cover of DEVO’s ‘Gut Feeling’ before launching into Pearl Jam’s ‘Corduroy’.

After storming through tracks like ‘Setting Forth’ and ‘No Ceiling’, both played for the first time in years, they covered The Who’s ‘I’m One’ and jammed to the intro of Led Zeppelin’s ‘The Song Remains the Same’ ahead of playing ‘Rearviewmirror’.

Eddie Vedder at Ohana Festival 2025 played:

‘Gut Feeling’ (DEVO cover)
‘Corduroy’ (Pearl Jam song)
‘I’ll Be Waiting’
‘Long Way’
‘The Dark’
‘Setting Forth’ (first time since 2017)
‘Far Behind’
‘No Ceiling’ (first time since 2019)
‘Brother the Cloud
‘I’m One’ (The Who cover)
‘Watch Outside’ (Mono Men cover)
‘Lukin’ (Pearl Jam song)
‘Chad-O’
‘Rose of Jericho’
‘Fallout Today’
‘Save It For Later’ (The Beat cover)
‘The Song Remains the Same’ (Led Zeppelin cover)
‘Rearviewmirror’ (Pearl Jam song)
‘Isn’t It A Pity’ (George Harrison cover)
‘Porch’
‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ (Neil Young cover)

Other covers of the night included The Beat’s ‘Save It For Later’, Mono Men’s ‘Watch Outside’ and George Harrison‘s 1970 track ‘Isn’t It A Pity’, with Vedder rounding things off with Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’, a longtime favourite of Vedder’s, which saw Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones and saxophonist King join him on stage.

As for Pearl Jam, they embarked on a US tour in support of their latest album, ‘Dark Matter’. The record scored a four-star review from NME last year, with Liberty Dunworth writing: “For those longing for the charismatic songwriting that first put the band on the map over three decades ago, ‘Dark Matter’ will come as a pleasant surprise.”

“Not only does it showcase Pearl Jam reclaiming the charm that first made them a force to be reckoned with back in 1991, it comes alongside some of their most impressive musicianship yet, as well as a determination to take risks after years of playing it safe.”

Tom Holland “Feeling Better” After ‘Spider-Man’ Set Injury

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

While on pause from filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day after suffering a concussion on the Glasgow set, Tom Holland has shared an update with fans.

The actor noted he’s “feeling better and on the mend” amid the week-long suspension from filming as he shared video from a recent gala for his parents’ nonprofit The Brothers Trust, which he attended with fiancée and co-star Zendaya last weekend after sustaining the injury on Friday.

“What a night! Another huge success,” Holland captioned the Instagram post in part. “The Brothers Trust means more to me than I could possibly say and I have to say a huge thank you to my Mum and her wonderful friends for putting on another incredible night. Raising money for fantastic causes and having fun doing it! I’m sorry I had to leave early but I’m feeling better and on the mend. A huge thanks to my Dad for taking over after I left. The show got considerably funnier.”

Tom Holland is seen on the set of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' on August 3, 2025 in Glasgow, Scotland.

On Sunday, Deadline reported that filming halted on Spider-Man: Brand New Day after Holland was treated for a mild concussion, reportedly during a stunt gone wrong, amid production on the Pinewood UK set of the Sony and Marvel Studios movie.

The actor was taken to the hospital and examined, but not admitted. No other cast or crew was affected during the incident.

Filming began in Scotland last month. In October, Sony added Spider-Man: Brand New Day to its summer 2026 schedule with a July 24 release date, later revealing the title in March at CinemaCon. Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s release date was then shifted to July 31.

New details have surfaced about Tom Holland’s on-set injury that halted filming of the latest Spider Man movie.

The 29-year-old actor was rushed to the hospital after a stunt went wrong at the UK’s Leavesden Studios, according to The Sun. Holland struck his head on the floor, leading to what doctors described as a mild concussion.

“The accident wasn’t as bad as people think,” an insider told the outlet.

The source explained that “a line snapped on a pull ring, and he got a bump on his [head]. Filming was supposed to start again in London on Thursday, but for now the production team have been told to stand down for two weeks.”

Tom Holland has been “taking it easy” during recovery

Another insider said Holland has been “taking it easy” during recovery and emphasized there is no rush for his return. “No one wants to push him back to set too quickly,” the source noted.

Even with the delay, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains scheduled for a July 2026 release. It will be Holland’s fourth appearance as Peter Parker.

Tom Holland was in public over the weekend

Though not filming, Holland was in public over the weekend. On September 20, he joined his parents, Dominic and Nikki, his brothers Sam, Harry, and Paddy, and Zendaya at the annual Brother’s Trust Gala in London, according to Parade report.

The charity, founded in 2017 by Dominic and Nikki, aims to “help charities who struggle to be heard in the noisy not-for-profit sector.”

Holland previously shared his excitement for reprising the role in a Sony video when filming began in Glasgow last month. “It’s day one, my fourth ever day one on Spider-Man. It’s funny, putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow,” he said.

He added, “It’s also the first time we ever had fans on set day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them. We’ve got some familiar faces on set. I’m just going to do my best, hopefully get it right, no pressure.”

‘Gavagai’ Director on Rewriting Euripides for the Film Industry Set

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

In Ulrich Köhler’s New York Film Festival world premiere “Gavagai,” a filmmaker and her star are taken to task for making a reverse-engineered “Medea” in Senegal.

The Euripides play, about a woman who murders her own children as a tribute to the man she loves and is obsessed with, is here recast as a story of a white woman (Maren Eggert, playing the actress in the film within the film) ostracized by a Black African community — and in a movie-within-the-movie directed by a filmmaker (Nathalie Richard) who looks curiously like Claire Denis. (The director said, in a conversation with IndieWire, that this is pure coincidence.) Meanwhile, at that film’s Berlin Film Festival premiere, its star Nourou (Jean-Christophe Folly) is in freefall after a racially troubling run-in with a Polish hotel security heavy.

Köhler is a filmmaker whose partner, in real life, is Maren Ade, the writer/director of films including the Oscar-nominated screwball classic “Toni Erdmann” and the breakup drama “Everyone Else.” As Köhler explained to IndieWire, the two collaborate and give feedback on each other’s films. “Gavagai” is not quite a comedy, not quite a drama, not quite an industry satire, with a tone that is ever-shifting from the comedic to the privilege-interrogating serious. It’s one of a handful of world premieres at the New York Film Festival, and a movie that will delight insiders and festival-goers for its sharp critique of how movies are delivered into the world: Köhler shot the film during the actual Berlin Film Festival, and uses its headquarters as grounds for an inquiry into the charged landscape of who-gets-to-direct-what filmmaking questions in 2025.

“It’s about something very serious at the base, but its protagonists are all privileged people, so the fallout from what happens is psychologically tough, but they will not end up in the street,” Köhler said. “In this setting, with actors and a director as the main protagonists, I felt I could do what I did.”

Köhler previously directed the film “Sleeping Sickness,” which he shot in Cameroon, and experiences from that movie shooting in Africa led to this one. “The central scene in Berlin, the racial-profiling scene, is something that really happened during the premiere of ‘Sleeping Sickness,’” Köhler said of “Gavagai,” referring to an incident that happened with that film’s star (and this one’s), Jean-Christophe Folly. “The white savior who went over the top out of guilt was me,” the director said, whereas in “Gavagai,” Maren Eggert’s character, the film-within-the-film’s lead, rushes to Nourou’s aid once a Polish security detail asks him for his ID but no one else’s.

“The security guy who started the whole thing was a Polish guy who didn’t speak German very well, and with whom Jean-Christophe and later me got into a fight,” Köhler said. “The one who suffered most by this was obviously Jean-Christophe because his festival experience, and the fact that this was his first feature film with a major role that was playing in an a festival in competition, he didn’t really get to enjoy that because that guy and the hotel politics destroyed his experience. But then, also, I added to that, thinking I would help him.”

Gavagai
‘Gavagai’NYFF

As for the director Caroline Lescot’s (Nathalie Richard) likeness to Claire Denis — herself a filmmaker who has interrogated colonialism throughout her career, from “White Material” to “35 Shots of Rum” — Köhler said it was “not intentional. I found it more interesting to have a female director than a male. For me, she’s an alter-ego. But I found it more interesting than just having the usual old white man behaving badly. It seemed like a more complex [situation]. Especially with ‘Medea’ as the film within the film. For me, you could say that Caroline is really taking it on from a feminist perspective, and kind of not really thinking through the racial issues involved in turning around history, and having a white Medea rejected by African people.”

There’s a scene in the film in which Caroline is grilled at a press conference about her implications in rewriting the Euripides text, and she quotes James Baldwin, which isn’t helpful for the demanding press corps. “She references Baldwin’s text about being the first Black person in a Swiss village, and he explains pretty well why it’s not the same as when a white person, from a position of power and privilege, arrives in an African village that hasn’t seen any white person before, it’s a very different situation from a Black man arriving in a village in Europe,” Köhler said.

“I hope I haven’t behaved all that badly, but I think the pressure situation that filmmakers, authors are under is quite tough with the economic restraints and also with always having to justify yourself because maybe you’re not making movies that make a lot of money, but you’re still asking for a lot,” Köhler said. “I don’t think you will find many directors who would say they are not capable of that kind of behavior.”

As for Köhler’s collaboration with Ade, who is the first person to see a rough cut of his films, he said, “When we didn’t have children, it was much more intense. Now it’s about really finding time to do it.”

Find out in October… Shudder has revealed the full official trialer for the next horror anthology offering in this series – it’s titled V/H/S/Halloween with freaky Halloween-themed stories this time. Another six horror film segments are included in this one, which will be streaming in early October. “It’s a spook-tacular anthology the whole family can enjoy…” This is the 8th V/H/S movie, which launched in 2012 and most recently included V/H/S/Beyond just last year. Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam All Set For Its Digital Debut

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Fans of Mohanlal who couldn’t make it to theatres this Onam have reason to celebrate. Hridayapoorvam, directed by the evergreen Sathyan Anthikad, is making its way to Jio Hotstar on September 26, 2025. The platform will premiere the film in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada, making it accessible to viewers across regions.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas, the movie originally opened in theatres on August 28 as an Onam release. With its star-power, festive timing, and Anthikad’s signature slice-of-life touch, the film struck a chord with family audiences.

Plot, Cast and Reception

The film follows Sandeep (played by Mohanlal), a heart transplant survivor who travels to Pune to attend the engagement of his donor’s daughter. When unexpected circumstances force him to extend his stay, the trip unravels into an emotional journey about family, memory, and belonging.

Joining Mohanlal on screen are Malavika Mohanan, Sangeeth Prathap, and Sangita Madhavan Nair, among others. The ensemble brings both humour and poignancy, creating the kind of warmth that has long defined Sathyan Anthikad’s cinema.

Audiences and critics alike responded positively to the film’s mix of gentle comedy and heartfelt drama. At the same time, a few medical professionals in Kerala voiced concern over the accuracy of the transplant-related details portrayed, arguing that certain aspects did not align with medical realities. Still, Hridayapoorvam largely succeeded in delivering a feel-good narrative that resonated with its festive release window.

Reaching out to a Bigger Fanbase

The arrival of Hridayapoorvam on streaming ensures that its reach extends far beyond theatres. For long-time admirers of the Mohanlal–Anthikad partnership, the digital release is a chance to revisit their magic. For newer audiences, it’s an opportunity to experience one of Malayalam cinema’s most reliable actor-director duos in a contemporary setting.

Official Trailer for ‘Game’ UK Survival Thriller Set in 90s Rave Scene

by Alex Billington
September 19, 2025

What do we have here? Invada Films has debuted an official UK trailer for a survival thriller indie film titled Game, made by filmmaker John Minton as his feature directorial debut. Not to be confused with the Gerard Butler video game action movie Gamer from 2009. Game is a thriller set during the ’90s British rave scene, where two men, one a thief and one a poacher, must use their wits to survive after a car crash in the woods. It’s produced by Geoff Barrow of the band Portishead, trying out something new. Starring Marc Bessant & Jason Williamson. The official UK premiere will be on October 16th at the opening night of Mayhem Film Festival in Nottingham, before the film hits UK theaters in November. Though still no US release set yet for this one. The film looks like some funky experimental indie horror creation, mixing nature and raves and psychological mania and more. What’s going on with these blokes in the forest? Keep an eye out for it…

Here’s the official UK trailer (+ poster) for John Minton’s film Game, from YouTube (via Live for Films):

Game Film Trailer

Game Film Poster

Late summer 1993. After stealing a stash of money and drugs, aging raver David (Marc Bessant) crashes his car deep in the woods – trapped in the wreckage, injured and helpless, he hangs suspended between life & death. When a mysterious poacher (Jason Williamson) discovers him, no rescue comes, only a watchful, unsettling presence that seems intent on letting nature finish the job. As the hours stretch and the elements close in, a tense and claustrophobic battle of wills, and wits, unfolds – where survival hinges on outlasting both the wilderness and the predator at its edge. Game is directed by British filmmaker John Minton, making his feature directorial debut with this new project. The screenplay is co-written by Geoff Barrow, Marc Bessant, John Minton, and Rob Williams. It’s produced by Geoff Barrow & Deborah Rawlings. This is premiering at a few small festivals before it hits theaters. Invada Films will debut Minton’s Game film in UK cinemas starting November 21st, 2025 this fall. No US release date is set yet – stay tuned. Who’s curious?
