Is Hollow Knight: Silksong a sequel or prequel?

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

We all know the name like the back of our hands by now, but is Hollow Knight: Silksong a sequel or a prequel?

The long-awaited follow-up to Team Cherry’s hit 2017 metroidvania is out this month. If you’re wondering whether you need to play Hollow Knight first, it might be helpful to know which game comes first in their shared world’s chronology.

So, is Silksong a sequel? Is Silksong a prequel? Let’s get into it!

Is Hollow Knight: Silksong a sequel or prequel?

According to Team Cherry developers, Hollow Knight: Silksong is a sequel that takes place after the events of Hollow Knight.

While there has been quite a lot of speculation about this, information has been surprisingly scant online. The answer actually comes from a since-deleted blog post from Team Cherry.

In fact, the blog post was the very one in which the team first revealed Silksong to the public. It stated: “Hollow Knight: Silksong is the second game by Team Cherry (that’s us!) and the full-scale sequel to Hollow Knight.”

By entering your details you are agreeing to our terms and conditions and privacy policy. You can unsubscribe at any time.

This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

It goes on to confirm that Silksong originally started life as a DLC, but “it quickly became too large and too unique to stay as a DLC”, prompting the decision to turn it into its own standalone game.

Incidentally, this is one of the many reasons why Silksong took so long to make.

So, there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. While we know that Silksong is a sequel to Hollow Knight, what we don’t know is how directly the two will be linked.

Whether Silksong directly picks up where Hollow Knight left off or chooses to tell a separate story, building upon the events of the first game remains to be seen.

We’ll just have to wait and see what Team Cherry has planned when the game finally launches this week.

“We gave them minds. We gave them bodies. We gave them the power to destroy us… or protect us.” Get ready for Tron mania this fall! Disney has debuted yet another new 60 second teaser trailer for Tron: Ares, the sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy continuing the story about A.I. programs taking over. From Norwegian director Joachim Rønning, this spectacular sci-fi tech movie follows highly sophisticated Program Ares, who’s sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first real encounter with A.I. beings. Greta Lee plays Eve Kim, the human lead in this – a tech genius, analytical and observant. She’s one of the world’s best programmers: reclusive, anti social, and an important renegade in stopping the rogue programs. Tron: Ares stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, + Jeff Bridges back as the OG Kevin Flynn. The full official trailer from one month ago is still the best – this movie is actually looking like it might be totally awesome. Have a look at more footage below.

Here’s the “Soldier” teaser trailer for Joachim Rønning’s sci-fi sequel Tron: Ares, direct from YouTube:

by jummy84 August 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmfare sat with the cast of Vash Level 2 for a candid conversation on the movie. The actors, Janki Bodiwala, Hitu Kanodia, Hiten Kumar and Monal Gajjar spoke to us about the sequel being much intense than the first movie. They also delved into the camaraderie they share on set, spooky moments, researching on black magic and more. When asked about the sequel, Hiten Kumar shared that it has its own extreme scenes that may make the audience uncomfortable. Janki agreed, stating that she is creeped out by her promotional poster of the movie. She also shared about taking her character to the next level in this movie. Hitu Kanodia quipped that his role as the father has earned him immense praises and his scenes in the new movie would be appreciated more. Monal, who is a new face in the cast, opened up about her thoughts on the new movie. She spoke about her character and applauded the many young actors who played school students in the film. She shared that the scenes with the students might be the highlights of the film. The others agreed, stating that the ensemble cast has done a superb job in elevating the intensity.

Hiten Kumar lauded Hitu and Janki for their portrayal of the troubled and daughter. When asked if Janki feels overburdened and emotional after intense scenes, she stated that her cast members make sure that she is alright. Hiten, on the other hand, shared that he understands how to switch off from the character after playing it for hours. However, it wasn’t an easy feat to achieve before. He shared being bothered by severely traumatic scenes but had to learn a way to deal with his emotions.

“They’re saying I lit a fire in you… I will put it out.” Here we go! Sony Pictures has revealed the action-packed badass trailer for Sisu 2, which is officially titled Sisu: Road to Revenge in full. Those who know already know about the totally awesome Finnish action movie Sisu from 2022 (read my review), directed by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, starring the action hero Jorma Tommila who never speaks a line of dialogue the entire film. They made a surprise sequel! And it’s already ready to hit theaters this November! A man returns to dismantle his family’s house after World War II, where they were killed during the war, then rebuild it elsewhere. When the killer, a Red Army commander, tracks him down, a brutal cross-country pursuit begins. Jorma Tommila returns to stars as the most badass Finnish to ever exist – Aatami Korpi. This time he’s facing off against Stephen Lang and Richard Brake, along with tons of Soviet soldiers. And his dog is back! Yep – this looks as gnarly and as intense as I was hoping, with so much brutal action to behold. The final 30 seconds of this trailer had me cackling with joy, it’s so awesome. Bring on the mayhem.

Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jalmari Helander’s Sisu: Road to Revenge, from YouTube:

Sisu 2: Road to Revenge Trailer

Sisu 2: Road to Revenge Trailer

Sisu 2: Road to Revenge Poster

Sisu 2: Road to Revenge is a wall-to-wall cinematic action event, a sequel to the original sleeper hit Sisu from 2022. Returning to the house where his family was brutally murdered during the war, “the man who refuses to die” (starring Jorma Tommila) dismantles it, loads it on a truck, and is determined to rebuild it somewhere safe in their honor. When the Red Army commander who killed his family (Stephen Lang from Don’t Breathe) comes back hellbent on finishing the job once and for all, a relentless, eye-popping cross-country chase ensues – a fight to the death, full of clever, unbelievable action set pieces. Sisu 2: Road to Revenge is once again written and directed by Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, director of the first Sisu (trailer here), along with Rare Exports, Big Game, and the series “Wingman” previously. It’s produced by Petri Jokiranta and Mike Goodridge. Sony Pictures will drop Helander’s Sisu 2: Road to Revenge action sequel in theaters nationwide starting on November 21st, 2025 this fall. 🇫🇮 Who’s planning to watch it?

‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ Author Clarifies Sequel Update

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Two years later, fans of Red, White & Royal Blue might be in for a happy ending soon.

After saying at a recent event that “pencils are kind of down for now” on the sequel, the literary source material’s author Casey McQuiston clarified the phrase on social media to put fans’ minds at ease.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ‘pencils down’ is a figure of speech that refers to when you’re taking the SAT or something and it’s time to put your pencil down bc the section of the test is done,” wrote McQuiston on their Instagram Story, according to DNA. “I’ve used this expression, like 100,000 times to describe the feeling of turning in a manuscript, it’s not that deep!”

Last May, Amazon MGM Studios announced they greenlighted development on the sequel after the first became Prime Video’s No. 1 movie in its global debut weekend, holding the position for three weeks.

Noting that there is no sequel to McQuiston’s original 2019 on which to base his sequel, writer-director Matthew López previously told Deadline that the author will still factor into the movie.

Matthew Lopez, Casey McQuiston, Uma Thurman, Nicholas Galitzine, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Rachel Hilson, Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti at the Prime Experience Deadline Portrait Studio for ‘Red, White and Royal Blue’ at Nya Studiuos on May 8, 2024 in Los Angeles, California

Michael Buckner for Deadline

“When we were starting this process, I kept saying that we’ll have succeeded at this adaptation…if you feel the same way at the end of the film, as you felt finishing the book,” said López last year. “There’s no book to guide us, but what we have is Casey’s original thoughts and original ideas.”

Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine reunite for the sequel, which also sees López returning after making his feature debut with the original, penning the followup alongside McQuiston. Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will return to produce the film, joined by the banner’s Michael McGrath, as well as López. McQuiston will executive produce.

In Red, White & Royal Blue, President Ellen Claremont’s (Uma Thurman) son Alex (Zakhar Perez) has an embarrassing encounter with Prince Henry (Galatzine), threatening US/UK relations and his mother’s reelection campaign. While attempting to clean up the bad press, the pair is forced to pretend to be best friends, during which the unlikely pair secretly falls in love.

Rowdy Rathore 2 Officially DEAD? Akshay Kumar And Sonakshi Sinha’s Sequel Faces Unexpected Twist! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

In 2012, Akshay Kumar’s iconic performance as the larger-than-life cop in Rowdy Rathore swept Bollywood off its feet. The movie, featuring Sonakshi Sinha, went on to become a blockbuster hit, standing out for its action-packed sequences, memorable dialogues, and a mix of comedy and drama. The people were buzzing when rumors of a sequel began doing the rounds, but the much-awaited Rowdy Rathore 2 has now been put on the backburner forever.

Disney and Intellectual Property Issues: The Roadblock

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, producers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shabinaa Khan had been developing the sequel for almost three years. Disney India, however, with partial intellectual property rights to the original Rowdy Rathore, has been reluctant to own the project, thus it was shelved. While the fans were keen on seeing the action universe return, it appears that the legal issues regarding the rights of the movie have dashed those hopes.

Rowdy Rathore 2 Officially Dead? Akshay Kumar And Sonakshi Sinha’s Sequel Faces Unexpected Twist! 2

Rewriting the Script: A New Cop Drama

Instead of canceling the sequel altogether, the creators have chosen to rewrite the script as a fresh new standalone cop drama. Directed by acclaimed scriptwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad, who has written blockbuster hits such as Baahubali and RRR, the new film will mirror the same mass popularity and energy that audiences enjoyed in Rowdy Rathore, but without the branding name. This has had fans speculating whether this is the end of the Rowdy Rathore franchise, or if it will transition into a new, reimagined series.

A New Director and Lead Actor

Helmed by Tamil director P.S. Mithran, who had directed movies such as Irumbu Thirai, Hero, and Sardar, the upcoming venture will go on floors in early 2026. Interestingly, actor Sidharth Malhotra, who was initially being looked at to essay the leading role in Rowdy Rathore 2, is no longer a part of the movie. The cast is currently looking for a younger actor to star as a fearless, larger-than-life policeman. This casting change suggests a possible generational change for the new film.

The Legacy of Rowdy Rathore

The original Rowdy Rathore was a Hindi remake of the 2006 Telugu movie Vikramarkudu, which was directed by S.S. Rajamouli. Akshay Kumar’s double act in playing an upright cop and a petty conman was much liked, and the movie became a huge box-office hit. Although Rowdy Rathore 2 has been shelved, the question is—would this new movie be able to carry on from where its first part left off or embark on an entirely different track? Until further announcements are made, the future of this once-celebrated action universe remains uncertain.

The love for Scream reached new heights after the release of Scream VI. In its opening weekend, Scream VI broke the franchise record by making $67 million at the box office and was the second film featuring a new generation of stars, including Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

In November 2023, Melissa was removed from the cast of Scream VII. The actress was fired from the film over her comments regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. One day later, it was revealed that Jenna would not be returning for Scream 7 because she left the project.

That month, the original final girl, Neve Campbell, confirmed that she will be starring in the next film, reprising her role as Sidney Prescott.

So what does all of this mean for Scream 7? Hollywood Life is breaking down everything we know about the sequel below.

Is There Going To Be A Seventh ‘Scream’ Movie?

Yes, Scream VII is officially on. The fifth Scream movie was released in January 2022. After it became a box office success, Scream 6 quickly got the green light. The sixth Scream movie filmed quickly took place from June to August 2022. Scream 7 was delayed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023.

Does ‘Scream 7’ Have a Release Date Yet?

Yes, Scream VII is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.

Who Is in ‘Scream 7’ Cast?

Following Scream VI‘s success, everyone assumed Scream 7 would feature the return of Scream’s “Core Four,” which includes Jenna as Tara, Melissa as Sam, Mason as Chad, and Jasmin as Mindy. They all managed to survive their latest round with Ghostface.

However, the Core Four is now the “Core Two” after Melissa was fired and Jenna left the project. Only Jasmin and Mason are returning after Scream VI.

Melissa was fired a month before the news broke after she shared social media posts regarding the war in Gaza. Prior to her firing, her deal to return for Scream VII had reportedly been finalized.

“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,” Spyglass, the production company behind Scream, said in a statement regarding Melissa’s removal.

Scream 6

Spyglass boss Gary Barber supposedly doesn’t believe that “stars nor large salaries are essential” for the success of the Scream franchise. “He didn’t need Neve, he doesn’t need Jenna,” an insider told THR. Scream 7 was reportedly going to be the “end of a rumored trilogy focused on the two Carpenter sisters.” While some insiders believe the future of the franchise is in “shambles” and “very raw,” a full-scale reboot could be on the horizon.

Hayden Panettiere’s long-awaited return as Kirby Reed paved the way for more of the beloved character in the future. She was stabbed again by Ghostface, but she survived. She told Tara and Sam to call her if they “ever” needed anything. Kirby was the perfect bridge between the original legacy characters and the newbies. So, fans are hoping Hayden will reprise her role in the seventh installment.

Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers also survived another brutal attack by Ghostface. Courteney is the only original Scream character to have appeared in all six films so far, and she’s in the seventh movie.

Matthew Lillard eventually revealed that he’s finally reprising his role as Stu Macher in Scream 7! In March 2025, news broke that David Arquette, known for his role as Deputy Dewey Riley, who died in the fifth film, would be reprising his role.

As with all previous Scream films, a new batch of supporting characters would be introduced in Scream 7.

Newcomers in the seventh movie include McKenna Grace and Anna Camp.

Will Neve Campbell Return For ‘Scream 7’?

Following her absence from the sixth movie, Neve announced that she signed on to reprise her role as Sidney for Scream VII.

“Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!” she wrote in an Instagram post in March 2024. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the ‘Scream’ movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

She continued, “While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Elisabeth McGowan Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now, it’s happening. Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7! This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson.”

The Scream world was shocked in June 2022 when Neve revealed that she would not be returning as Sidney Prescott in Scream VI.

“Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film,” Neve said in a statement. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

Neve’s absence was felt in Scream 6. She was mentioned briefly after the latest set of Ghostface attacks. Gale revealed that Sidney wouldn’t be coming to New York. Sidney and Mark took their kids to a safe spot to hide out from Ghostface.

Is Stu Macher Alive?

That’s the million-dollar question. OG killer Stu was seemingly killed in the first Scream movie after being stabbed and electrocuted when a television falls on his head. However, a legion of Scream fans are holding out hope that Stu somehow survived and has been living in hiding for all this time.

Scream 5 featured Stu’s nephew briefly, but he was killed quickly by Ghostface. The big showdown went down at Stu Macher’s old house just like in the original.

Scream 6 directly referenced Stu Macher. At the Ghostface shrine warehouse, the Core Four and others came face-to-face with key items from past killings, including the TV that supposedly killed Stu. When Kirby brings up the TV that killed Stu, Mindy quipped, “If you believe he’s dead.”

Scream’s original screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, has said that Stu is dead dead. “No, he’s dead. I think that started because of the college scene, the frat party scene because he’s standing in the background. He just came to visit set that night,” he told Collider.

The latest Scream team isn’t so concrete about Stu’s fate. “There’s no good answer, so I will never confirm or deny stuff like that,” James Vanderbilt told Variety. Producer William Sherak added, “Anything’s possible.” Producer Paul Neinstein also said, “Characters can come in and out! There’s different ways to do it. It’s such a part of all of their lives; they have an affinity for Scream.”

Even if Stu is dead, he could come back as Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis, who has appeared in the latest two films in Sam’s head. If Stu somehow is still alive, that would be the ultimate twist. Scream 7 could follow the theme of Scream 3: the past can always comes back to bite you.

With Matthew’s return though, it is up in the air how these roles will be dealt with.
