The Grabber Returns for Grisly Horror Sequel

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Scott Derrickson has made millions on the unnerving emptiness between fragments of film grain. The horror films the director has made with screenwriter C. Robert Cargill — “Sinister” and “The Black Phone” in particular — have used the aesthetics of Super 8 film to create a suggestive aura of supernatural menace. “The Black Phone 2” is no exception, with grain so dense in certain sequences that the actors are reduced to ghostly silhouettes. It’s an effective technique, which is probably why Derrickson keeps using it.

The Super 8 (and modified Super 16) sequences in “The Black Phone 2” provide the film with its most horrific imagery: fragmented shots of red feathers littering the snow around a child’s abandoned parka and thick, viscous blood oozing from a tree stump in the frozen woods. These are all echoes — some prophetic, others from the past — that recur in the dreams experienced by Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), younger sister of Finney (Mason Thames), the siblings that were also at the center of the original “The Black Phone.”

'A House of Dynamite'

Finney triumphed at the end of that film, dispatching child-snatching serial killer the Grabber (Ethan Hawke) with help from the ghosts of his previous victims and one of Gwen’s psychic visions. But that doesn’t matter in a horror movie, particularly a supernatural one. And so the Grabber is back, calling from beyond the grave to threaten Finney with not only his own demise, but that of his little sister as well. Hawke returns too, grumbling and growling behind a rubber mask (and, eventually, some grisly prosthetics). And thank goodness, because there are some thick blocks of dialogue to get through here, and only an actor of Hawke’s caliber could make them work.

Part of the charm of the “Black Phone” movies is that their threat is anachronistic. The number of pay phones in the United States has fallen sharply since the mobile revolution, making it next to impossible for a disembodied malevolent spirit to terrorize any misfit kids through phone booths today. “The Black Phone 2” takes place in 1981, a fact that’s nearly impossible to forget with the repeated, winking era-specific references and lines about a character being “deader than disco.”

The plot of both films also depends on their teenage characters being relatively unsupervised, an equally anachronistic touch that “The Black Phone 2” shares with its most obvious inspiration: the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. Specifically, Gwen takes on a leading role in this film that’s very similar to Patricia Arquette’s character in “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors,” but with the staff of a snowed-in Christian summer camp at her back rather than the patients at a youth psychiatric hospital.

These include Ernesto (Miguel Mora), the younger brother of a character from the previous film (also played by Mora) and Gwen’s innocent puppy-love suitor; camp supervisor Armando (Demián Bichir), who provides a living link to macabre events that occurred there decades earlier; and Mercedes (Arianna Rivas), Armando’s equestrian niece. Attempts to add a bit of Latinx flair to the dialogue largely fizzle. But, like Hawke, Bichir does a heroic job carrying the burden of explaining the film’s lore — an essential function in a backstory-heavy effort like this one.

Most of the flaws in “The Black Phone 2” can be traced back to its screenplay, from some of the more cringeworthy dialogue to the unwieldy chunks of exposition and a thematic thread that affirms the existence of Heaven and Hell, and, therefore, the validity of Christian belief. This is not an unusual message for a horror film — the entire possession subgenre is built on Catholic dogma, as is the “Conjuring” series. What makes it worthy of critique here is the inconsistent way in which it’s applied, setting up a more thoughtful take on the hypocrisy of organized religion only to abandon it when it’s time to send the Grabber back to Hell.

Derrickson acquits himself more admirably, adding blood-soaked flair not only to the film’s analog sequences but also the digital ones. A scene where Gwen is terrified by the appearance of three boys who were murdered on the campgrounds back in 1957 is a masterclass in creative gore effects, slicing one boy’s head in half diagonally on a windowpane, watching it slither to the ground, and leaving it to sputter and twitch as blood pools around what’s left of his face. The film also builds on a famous effect from “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” spinning bodies and flinging them around like marionettes whose puppeteer is having a seizure as the characters battle the invisible foe in Gwen’s dreams.

Still, a complaint that’s also common to contemporary horror films nags at “The Black Phone 2,” in that all of the best things about this movie come from other movies, whether they be the creative team’s previous efforts or iconic titles from decades past. (It’s not just “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” either; the majority of the action takes place as the characters are snowed in at an isolated location, making comparisons to “The Shining” equally inescapable.) These elements are enjoyable, which is precisely why they’re recycled here. And maybe that’s good enough for a horror sequel. But good enough will never be more than just that.

Grade: B-

“The Black Phone 2” premiered at Fantastic Fest 2025. Universal Pictures will release it in theaters on Friday, October 17.

After Exiting Kalki 2989 AD Sequel, Deepika Padukone Reunites With Shah Rukh Khan For King ‘We’re Back…’ Deets Inside!

written by jummy84

The makers of Kalki 2898 AD recently confirmed that Deepika Padukone, who was part of the 2024 cast, will not be returning for the film’s sequel, surprising fans and sparking conversations online. 2024 marked a special year for Deepika, as she welcomed her daughter, Dua. While fans eagerly await her comeback on the big screen, her professional journey has faced a few hurdles. Earlier this year, her exit from Prabhas’s Spirit caused a major stir. Though she had announced a project with Atlee, her departure from Kalki 2898 AD made headlines. Yet, the actress remains unfazed, recently revealing her collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan for King.

Deepika Padukone to Reunite with Shah Rukh Khan for King

Deepika Padukone’s exit from two major projects has sparked questions about her work ethic, especially after a list of her alleged demands surfaced following her departure from Spirit. While nothing has been officially confirmed, the reports affected her image. Amid the speculation, Deepika shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, holding hands with Shah Rukh Khan to announce her role in King. In the caption, she reflected on how King Khan, her first co-star in Om Shanti Om, taught her valuable lessons, while subtly hinting at her exciting next chapter, writing:

Deepika and SRK photo

“The very first lesson he taught me almost 18 years ago, while filming Om Shaanti Om, was that the experience of making a movie, and the people you make it with, matter far more than its success. I couldn’t agree more and have applied that learning to every decision I have made. And that’s probably why we’re back, making our 6th movie together?”

Deepika Padukone has shared the screen with Shah Rukh Khan in several films since her debut, including Happy New Year, Chennai Express, Pathaan, Jawan, and more. Most of their projects have been massive box office hits, establishing them as one of today’s most successful on-screen pairings. Excited by the big announcement, Deepika’s husband, Ranveer Singh, couldn’t contain his excitement and highlighted their special bond while commenting: “Bestest Besties”

Deepika Padukone is set to reunite with her Pathaan director, Siddharth Anand, and Shah Rukh Khan for King, raising fans’ excitement even higher. A Pinkvilla report earlier confirmed that she is officially on board and was scheduled to start shooting in May 2025. While her post includes the hashtag “Day 1,” it’s unclear whether it refers to a past moment or a recent update. The report also noted that Deepika was initially unavailable, taking time off to focus on her newborn and fitness, but a delay in King’s schedule eventually aligned perfectly with her timeline.

King is an upcoming action thriller featuring Shah Rukh Khan, marking his first film alongside his daughter, Suhana Khan. Initially directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the project was later taken over by Siddharth Anand after Ghosh’s exit. The film’s ensemble cast reportedly includes Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Fahim Fazil, Jaideep Ahlawat, and several others.

“The closer they look, the less they’ll actually see…” 🎩 Lionsgate has unveiled the second official trailer for Now You See Me: Now You Don’t – originally called Now You See Me 3. This is the third movie in the magician heist series that kicked off with Now You See Me in 2013 and continued with Now You See Me 2 in 2016. It’s opening in theaters nationwide in November this fall – if anyone wnats to watch it? Here’s the only brief synopsis for this sequel: The Four Horsemen return along with a new generation of illusionists performing mind-melding twists, turns, surprises, and magic unlike anything ever captured on film. I hope the tricks are more realistic this time! Now You Don’t stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt, with Rosamund Pike, and Morgan Freeman. Director Ruben Fleischer “has delivered all of the twists and turns and sleight-of-hand that audiences expect from this franchise while upping the stakes and scale in every way. We can’t wait for audiences to discover what he’s done.” This is slightly better than the first trailer but it still looks like one gigantic, CGI-filled mess without any actual legitimate magic tricks in it. And the jokes are extra cringe, too.

Here’s the second official trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, via YouTube:

The screenplay is written by Eric Warren Singer, Seth Grahame-Smith, Michael Lesslie; from characters and a story created by Ed Solomon. Produced by Bobby Cohen, Alex Kurtzman, and Gergö Balika. “Be the first one to find God, and you can rewrite your fate.” CMC Pictures in China has revealed the main official trailer for a big action fantasy sequel called A Writer’s Odyssey 2, the follow-up to the hit movie A Writer’s Odyssey from 2021. “Reality is being overwritten by fiction…” Can he stop it? The writer is back again for another epic story. “Before you step into the theater, make sure you’re not his next character. The story isn’t finished yet… but the NPCs are already off-script! Plot is spiraling out of control—return to reality while you still can.” Struggling novelist Lu Kongwen gives in to a powerful temptation, plunging himself and his fictional characters into an inescapable crisis. Through rediscovering his purpose, he joins forces with his creations to heroically resolve the dual-world catastrophe. The movie stars Deng Chao, Dong Zijian, Lei Jiayin, Wang Shengdi, and Ding Chengxin. Just like the first movie, this looks like a crazy action-packed, CGI-filled adventure with tons of creatures and characters and fights and everything else. Have fun.

Here’s the official trailer (+ posters) for Yang Lu’s action sequel A Writer’s Odyssey 2, from YouTube:

Robin Wright Reveals Why She Left the U.S. & Moved to England

Robin Wright thinks a sequel to The Princess Bride would be inconceivable.

And while the actress and her costars from the 1987 classic—including Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal, Chris Sarandon and Christopher Guest—have often been asked about a sequel to the Rob Reiner–directed film, they’re not ready to storm the castle again.

“Sometime after we hit the 30-year mark, the cast did a Zoom call,” Robin shared in an interview with AARP published Sept. 18. “A couple of actors were like, ‘We’ve been asked if we’ll do a sequel.’”

As the 59-year-old recalled jokingly telling them, “‘Well, a lot of us are going to be in a wheelchair.’ So no, no, that will never happen.”

Still, Robin—who shares kids Dylan Frances Penn, 34, and Hopper Jack Penn, 32, with ex husband Sean Penn—has only fond memories of filming.

“We laughed so hard making that movie,” she shared. “We’d have to cut camera and start over again because it was such a giggle-fest.”

Production House Vyjayanthi Movies Confirmed Deepika Padukone Being Replaced In The Sequel of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’

A shocking update has been revealed about the highly anticipated sequel to “Kalki 2898 AD”, as the leading lady of the film, Deepika Padukone, will not be a part of the film. The makers of the blockbuster epic confirmed her exit through an official announcement, leaving fans surprised and disappointed. Social media is now buzzing with questions about what led to her departure and who will step into the lead role opposite Prabhas in the sequel.

Deepika Padukone

The production house Vyjayanthi Movies, which backed director Nag Ashwin’s futuristic drama, revealed the news in a statement on X. The post read, “We officially announce that Deepika Padukone will not be part of the sequel to ‘Kalki 2898 AD.’ After much deliberation, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we could not continue our partnership. A project like ‘Kalki’ demands unwavering commitment, and we wish Deepika the very best for her future endeavors.”

Let us tell you that Deepika’s chemistry with Prabhas in the first installment was widely appreciated, and fans were eagerly waiting to see the duo reunite on screen. Her sudden exit has now raised curiosity about the film’s new female lead and the future direction of the franchise. Interestingly, this is not the first major project Deepika has walked away from in 2024. Earlier this year, she also exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s “Spirit” after reporting creative differences.

Rumors suggested that Deepika requested an eight-hour work shift and other scheduling accommodations, which the director allegedly found unprofessional. Similar reports had circulated about “Kalki 2898 AD 2,” claiming that Deepika had asked for reduced working hours, a demand said to be a key reason behind her decision to quit the sequel. With Deepika officially stepping away, the spotlight is now on Vyjayanthi Movies to reveal who will replace her and how the film will maintain the momentum of its record-breaking first part.

Marco sequel in the works? Makers register Lord Marco as title without Unni Mukundan

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Updated on: Sept 17, 2025 09:01 pm IST

Unni Mukundan’s Marco was a huge success at the box office when it released in 2024. The actor has since shared that he will not be part of the sequel.

Marco, released in 2024, became a huge box office hit and earned ₹100 crore worldwide. Starring Unni Mukundan in the lead, the film stirred controversy for its violence. Many touted it as India’s most violent film ever, and there were reports of viewers throwing up in theatres due to the gore.

Unni Mukundan had earlier said there will be no sequel to Marco.

Marco sequel registered

On Wednesday, trade analyst AB George shared a picture on X (formerly Twitter), which revealed that a sequel to Marco is in the works. The picture was that of the official papers where the makers- Cubes Entertainment, registered the name of the sequel of the film as ‘Lord Marco.’

The name of Haneef Adeni was also seen in the official paper but there was no mention of lead star Unni Mukundan. There has been no official announcement regarding the same.

That might come as no surprise to fans as Unni had previously shared that he won’t be interested in doing a sequel. In June, Unni had shared a video showing his weight loss transformation. In the comments section, a fan asked him about Marco 2, to which he replied, “Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers.”

Directed by Haneef Adeni and produced by Shareef Muhammed under his Cubes Entertainments banner, Marco was a revenge saga that also starred Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, and Kabir Duhan Singh.

Unni’s next project

Interestingly, on Wednesday, it was also announced that Unni would play the lead role in Maa Vande, a biopic tracing PM Modi’s life journey. Sharing the announcement about starring in Modi’s biopic, Unni wrote on his X account, “A man’s story that rises beyond battles… to become a revolution for the ages. #MaaVande it is. Wishing the Honourable Prime Minister @Narendramodi Ji a very Happy Birthday. May glory be revived and brighter things await.”

Spinal Tap II Review: A Legacy Sequel Worthy of This Band’s Legacy
Music

Rob Reiner Directs a Worthy Sequel

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

In the 41 years since This Is Spinal Tap was released, David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) have experienced no shortage of career highs and lows, playing major festivals before splitting up, seemingly for good, over a decade ago. However, the music industry loves a comeback story. So director Marty DiBergi (played by actual director Rob Reiner) is back to document the boys with Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, a movie covering the preparations for an epic reunion concert — one that could maybe heal the festering wounds that led to the band’s split in the first place.

Spinal Tap II is not exactly a movie you would describe as being plot-heavy. To say it has much in the way of forward momentum would be inaccurate — despite the countdown to their big show looming, there’s not much tension about whether they’ll make it to the stage or be a success. And yet it still stands out as a deeply enjoyable viewing experience, and a singular one: It’s a movie about older men looking back at their lives and the relationships that have defined them, in a way that’s only possible after at least five decades of real-life friendship.

That aforementioned lack of momentum doesn’t end up being too big an issue, largely because Spinal Tap II clocks in at 83 minutes (just a minute longer than the original). It’s just the right length, allowing us to leisurely enjoy the process of Marty visiting all three of the original band members: Since the band broke up, David’s developed a talent for writing and composing hold music, Derek got mixed up in some bad crypto business, and Nigel’s developed a real passion for cheese, opening his own cheese and guitars shop. (You can trade cheese for a guitar, or a guitar for some cheese. Nigel’s got a whole system for figuring it out.)

Related Video

Then, the trio eventually (and awkwardly) reunite in New Orleans to prepare for the big show, which involves finding a new keyboardist (C. J. Vanston, a longtime real-life collaborator of Guest’s) — and of course, a new drummer. That’s the band’s toughest challenge in the early stages, given how we learn early on in the movie that Spinal Tap’s grand total of deceased drummers now goes to 11 (seriously!).

This leads to a Zoom-powered merry-go-round moment where Questlove, Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lars Ulrich all pass on the gig (all three men demonstrating some solid chops when it comes to deadpan delivery), followed by the discovery of Didi Crockett (Valerie Franco), who fucking slays, frankly — thanks to both her incredible drumming skills and her positive attitude.

Franco’s not given a lot of heavy-duty comedy to perform, but as Didi, she brings such joy and energy to the screen, while also bashing the drums like they were responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade. Her credits in real life include performing with artists like Halsey and Kylie Minogue and doing a week-long fill-in gig for Fred Armisen on The Late Show with Seth Meyers. In a just world, Spinal Tap II will break her out in a huge way.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues (Bleeker Street)

There have been enough legacy sequels like this for us all to be familiar with their traps and pitfalls, which Spinal Tap II largely manages to avoid. The biggest potential concern I had as a viewer was watching the movie attempt to get anywhere close to recapturing the iconic, culture-shifting magic of “This one goes to 11,” a mountain the movie thankfully does not try to summit.

That being said, there is an intimate interview sequence between Nigel and Marty with a deeply silly reveal that had me giggling for many minutes. No catchphrases emerge from it, but that doesn’t negate the power of two legendary comedic talents reminding us all how skilled they are at playing a moment. It’s one of many delightful beats played out for just the right amount of time, escalated with laser-sharp precision.

The music still rocks, too, with new tracks like “Rockin’ In the Urn” proving as catchy as they are funny. Okay, “Hell Toupee” might fall more into the category of silliness, but “Let’s Just Rock Again,” “The Devil’s Just Not Getting Old,” and even little improvised ditties like “NOLA House Song” reaffirm that Guest, McKean, and Shearer’s musical talents have not faded with age.

As for the real-life musicians who appear as themselves in the movie, Spinal Tap II proves the power of quality over quantity. Rather than share the screen (and pad the screen time) with countless appearances from famous folk who would undoubtedly be honored to make a cameo, the movie gives us a glorious extended sequence in which Paul McCartney sits in on a studio session with the lads — much to David’s annoyance — even jamming on “Cups and Cakes” with them. (“Cups and Cakes” being one of two songs from the original This Is Spinal Tap album to not be featured in the first movie.)

Spinal Tap 2 Review The End Continues

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues (Bleeker Street)

Also, no spoilers for what happens with him, but Elton John’s role in the film is also larger than anticipated. Most importantly, he proves exceptionally game for committing fully to the concept of Spinal Tap being a real band, one he’s honored to play with.

It all builds to a point, towards the later half of the movie, where it all started to feel so overwhelmingly real. Without question, McKean, Shearer, and Guest are all playing fictional characters in a fictional band — but when they’re improvising both musically and comedically in character with real-life rock stars, after decades of playing together as these characters… It almost feels like slipping into another universe.

It’s a feeling enhanced by the way that Reiner leans hard into documentary technique for a lot of the filming, especially during the climatic concert: You can see the many cameras on stage capturing the performances from different angles, with band members occasionally looking directly into the lens as they wail on guitar, just like they did in the 1984 film. Maybe it’s the fact that when the band’s music is that good, it makes the band itself feel genuine. The magic Pinocchio was looking for the whole time.

But another factor could be that Spinal Tap II holds onto the real sense that these men, despite everything they’ve been through, have loved each other almost their entire lives. Guest and McKean in particular met in college in the late 1960s, and they’ve been playing music together ever since; there’s something beautiful about the fact that they’ve found their way to this moment, after so many decades — one where the only laughter they care about is each other’s. The audience laughing as well? That’s just a bonus. It’s also happily guaranteed.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues rocks its way into theaters on September 12th. Check out the trailer below.

First Teaser for Rian Johnson’s ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ Whodunit Sequel

“It is time to discover what this flock of wicked wolves is hiding…” Netflix has finally unveiled the gorgeous first teaser for Rian Johnson’s next whodunit mystery titled Wake Up Dead Man, also known as Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The film just premiered this past weekend screening at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival to rave reviews, as expected, a much darker and more serious thriller this time around. This is Johnson’s follow-up to Knives Out (2019) and Glass Onion (2022) continuing with Daniel Craig returning as Benoit Blanc in what is called “his most dangerous case yet.” He’s investigating a murder at a church – the murder is setup in this teaser, described as an “impossible” crime to solve. So it’s a religious horror mystery thriller? How exciting. The lack of an obvious suspect prompts the police chief Geraldine Scott to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic… The superb ensemble cast includes Josh O’Connor & Josh Brolin as priests, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, with Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church. Couldn’t be a more exciting cast than this, can there? I’m all for this – looks like it might be the best one yet.

Here’s the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Rian Johnson’s sequel Wake Up Dead Man, from YouTube:

Wake Up Dead Man Teaser Trailer

Wake Up Dead Man Teaser Trailer

Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns for his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery opus. When young priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), it’s clear that all is not well in the pews. A continuation of the whodunit mystery comedy series that started with Knives Out (2019) and continued with Glass Onion (2022) on a Greek island. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, a sequel to Knives Out (2019), is once again both written and directed by the acclaimed American filmmaker Rian Johnson, director of the films Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Looper, Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, Knives Out, and Glass Onion previously, as well as the “Poker Face” series. Produced by Ram Bergman and Rian Johnson. With music from Nathan Johnson. Netflix debuts Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery sequel in select US theaters first on November 26th, 2025, during Thanksgiving week. It will be streaming on Netflix later starting December 12th, 2025 just before the end of this year. Ready to watch?

Very Scary Trailer #2 for Ethan Hawke’s ‘Black Phone 2’ Horror Sequel

“It took me a long time… but you of all people know ‘dead’ is just a word.” Universal has unveiled the scary second trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Black Phone 2, the horror follow-up to C. Robert Cargill & Scott Derrickson’s film The Black Phone which opened 2022. This one will land in theaters starting in this middle of October during the spooky season. The story of the masked man ain’t over yet. 4 years ago, 13-year-old Finn killed his abductor & escaped, now the sole survivor of The Grabber. But true evil transcends death… and the phone is ringing again. Will you answer? Following the blockbuster success of Blumhouse’s 2022 horror hit, which earned more than $160M worldwide and global acclaim, Universal announces the launch of a sinister new franchise with the release of Black Phone 2. “The Grabber” has big plans? Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora all return for this sequel, again directed by Scott Derrickson. Damn this looks crazy! They’re definitely riffing on A Nightmare on Elm Street with a dash of Dream Warriors thrown in. I really dig the snowy cold setting for this sequel.

Here’s the second official trailer for Scott Derrickson’s horror sequel Black Phone 2, direct from YouTube:

You can watch the first trailer for Derrickson’s Black Phone 2 horror movie right here for a bit more footage.

Ethan Hawke is returning to the most sinister role of his career as The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by menacing Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw). As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone & seeing disturbing visions of 3 boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death & even more significant to them than either could imagine.

Black Phone 2, originally known as The Black Phone 2, is once again directed by acclaimed American genre filmmaker Scott Derrickson, director of the films The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Sinister, Deliver Us from Evil, Marvel’s Doctor Strange, The Black Phone, and The Gorge previously, plus an ep of “Snowpiercer” and a short in V/H/S/85. The screenplay is again written by C. Robert Cargill & Scott Derrickson. It’s produced by Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson, & C. Robert Cargill. Made by Blumhouse. Universal sends Derrickson’s Black Phone 2 in theaters nationwide starting October 17th, 2025 this fall.
