‘Stranger Things’ Skirted Controversy & History At Season 5 Premiere

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

The world premiere of Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season Thursday night was a largely joyous affair for everyone involved (save for the time close to 1,000 invited guests had to spend cooped up in the Chinese Theatre with their phones locked as the screening started an hour late.)

The cast and creators smiled and posed for photos on the red carpet as they appeared to be enjoying each other’s company. That included stars Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour who hugged and shared a laugh in front of photographers.

The two were closely watched at the premiere, their every movement and word scrutinized, as their reunion came days after a Nov. 1 Daily Mail report that claimed that the British actress, who plays girl with supernatural abilities Eleven on the show, had filed a harassment and bullying complaint against Harbour, who portrays her adoptive father Jim.

The controversy, fueled by the silence by all parties involved and Harbour’s ex-wife Lily Allen’s recently released “revenge album,” threatened to overshadow the premiere. It didn’t happen, with the cast and creators presenting united front, Brown and Harbour arriving together, Netflix releasing video of them and Brown posting a joint photo on social.

Nobody addressed the accusations directly, with Brown and Harbour praising each other in separate interviews and co-creator Ross Duffer telling THR that “nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.”

According to sources, there was a tiff between Brown and Harbour, and she did complain about his behavior, however it may not have been as recent as the report suggested but earlier in the series’ run. It was dealt with, and there hadn’t been issues since, sources said.

After posing on the red carpet, Brown, Harbour and the rest of the cast took the stage inside the Chinese Theatre, introduced by the series’ creators, Matt and Ross Duffer.

The Duffer brothers, the series director/executive producer Shawn Levy and Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos and Chief Creative Officer Bela Bajaria spoke before the screening of the Season 5 premiere episode, all becoming emotional as they did.

“I was in a magical place 10 years ago when Stranger Things was pitched to Netflix,” Sarandos said, noting that while House of Cards put the streamer on the original series map, “our real moment was when we put on Stranger Things,” a show that “moved the culture.”

Stranger Things was the first hit produced and fully owned by Netflix (earlier standouts like House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black came from outside studios), and its massive popularity turned it into a lucrative brand and merchandizing bonanza for the tech company.

The Duffer brothers thanked the people they considered to have played a crucial role in Stranger Things‘ success, including Dan Cohen, the former executive at Shawn Levy’s company who was the first to champion their script after many rejections, Levy who embraced it, Sarandos, who got it on the platform, and the fans who helped to make it into a world phenomenon. They also acknowledged Bajaria for her support of the show over its last two seasons.

The speeches made it seem like Sarandos was the one who took the Stranger Things pitch and greenlighted the series. As Chief Creative Officer at the time, Sarandos did have ultimate greenlight authority, and his role in Stranger Things‘ success is undeniable. There were others, too.

Several years ago, the Duffers presented a different version in an essay for Time Magazine about Cindy Holland, Netflix’s former head of English-language scripted originals under Sarandos.

“When we pitched Stranger Things to Netflix, we were told Cindy Holland was the key,” they wrote in 2018. “As it turns out, she’s also extremely difficult to read in a room. We left the pitch certain of only one thing: Cindy hated it. One day later, she greenlighted our show, and our lives changed.”

There was no mention of Holland in any of the on-stage remarks at the premiere. That is not unusual — it is standard Hollywood practice for executives to be erased once replaced. Still, an occasion such as the end of an extraordinary successful show could call for an exception.

Another detail from the on-stage remarks was not lost on the attendees. The Netflix executives made a point to introduce the Duffer brothers — who are set to leave the streamer in April for a film and TV deal at Paramount that will allow them to make theatrical features and reunite with Holland and another former Netflix exec involved in Stranger Things‘ ascend, Matt Thunell — as being “a big part of the Netflix family.”

Season 5 of Stranger Things premieres Nov. 26 with Part 1, followed by Part 2 on Dec. 25 and the finale on Dec. 31.

Parker Schnabel Stuns Kevin Beets With Shocking Move in Season 16 Premiere

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

What To Know

  • Season 16 of Gold Rush begins with Parker Schnabel, Tony Beets, and Rick Ness returning to the Yukon, each aiming for ambitious gold totals amid record-high gold prices.
  • Parker faces early equipment and staffing challenges but secures a strong first weigh-in, while Tony’s crew narrowly avoids disaster with a truck accident and achieves a lucrative early gold haul.
  • Rick Ness struggles with permit issues at Duncan Creek, considers alternative sites, and ultimately decides to pursue mining at Lightning Creek after advice from Parker and Tony.

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for Gold Rush Season 16.]

Our favorite miners are back in the Yukon for Season 16 of Gold Rush on Discovery Channel. With the price of gold continuing to surge to upwards of $3,500 an ounce, Parker Schnabel, Rick Ness, and Tony Beets look to cash in a big way. The two-hour season premiere on Friday, November 7 kicked off with a quick interaction between Tony and Parker.

The latter eyed an aggressive 10,000 ounces this year and years to come. Tony was looking to build on momentum from last season. “I’m glad you’re doing well,” Parker said. Tony said the same to him. Parker replied, “Hopefully, the wars are behind us.” We’ll see if things will stay cordial between the prodigy and the “King of the Klondike.”

Parker Schnabel

The 31-year-old sunk a ton of money into his monstrous Dominion Creek claim. He counted on four wash plants to deliver better results than last year, which brought some disappointment. Parker sat down with his two foreman Mitch Blaschke and Tyson Lee before the work got underway. The mine boss didn’t sugarcoat things by warning them, “It’s going to be a stressful year for you two.” Mitch was assigned to finish up at Sulphur Creek over the 10 weeks Parker had a water license for it. Tyson had the pressure of running Dominion. A strong finish could mean Parker and his crew bring in $35 million.

Before Tyson could hit any paydirt at Dominion, the crew had to deal with the water that flooded the cut over the winter. Pay was buried with three feet of solid ice. Parker wanted to get wash plant Bob sluicing over the week. Adding more issues, the feed chain system on the prewash conveyer was down. Mechanics worked feverishly to repair it, which gave them three days to sluice.

Brennan Ruault/Discovery Channel

Mitch felt under the gun alone on the job at Sulphur. The good news is it wasn’t for long as in an unexpected turn of events Parker poached Brennan Ruault from Kevin Beets in a shocking move. Brennan had previously walked out on Parker after disagreements and reappeared working for Tony Beets’ son. Now after five years, he came back to Parker’s operation after breaking the news to a stunned Kevin and his partner Faith Teng. “Christmas came early,” said Mitch, as he reflected on the shocking switch.

There was some disagreement between Mitch and Parker. Mitch wanted to focus on the ditch to dig to get rid of water, which went against Parker who wanted immediate panning. Parker laid down the law, “you have two options: find some virgin ground or else you can leave.”  They finally drained the cut and exposed what could be their first hidden pay pocket. Parker panned and found encouraging gold. The Parker crew get together to meet up for their first weigh. Tyson’s result at the Bridge Cut ultimately brought in 125.80 ounces worth more than $440,000. A nice start, but Parker grounded the team, “we have long ways to go.”

Tony Beets

Tony Beets

Tony and family had already started sluicing two weeks into the season. He hoped for a quick score at the Early Bird Cut. There was already a weigh-in with 417.56 ounces from Indian River worth $1.5 million. Tony aimed for 6,500 ounces worth $22 million this season. His son Mike was directed to run Paradise Hill while Monica oversaw the gold room cleaning what would be coming in. Mike had the deadline to hit pay dirt by the end of the week. This was a proving opportunity. Mike worked to strip more ground and extend the cut. He had six new trucks to use. One of those $750,000 pieces of equipment flipped over with the driver Graham stuck inside. The truck hung on the edge of what could have been a 200-foot drop. The crew broke the top of the window so Graham could get outside. A dozer got the truck upright with the excavator used to keep it from falling off the cliff. Tony decided not to fire the crew member, but Mike was now down a truck. They do hit pay at Paradise Hill and could get sluicing.

Kevin Beets

Kevin Beets

Kevin Beets/Discovery Channel

At Scribner Creek, Kevin has started round 2 in his journey as a mine boss. He had a nice start sluicing early as well. Kevin poured his life savings into jumpstarting this operation last year. He hoped to double his return this time around with a goal of 2,000 ounces. Kevin and Faith were floored, losing Brennan. “I think we should go poaching too,” Kevin said. Despite the setback, he moved forward and depended more on others of his team. Kevin’s parents paid a visit as they were leasing the ground with a 10 percent cut. They weighed from one week of pay and came up at 57.04 ounces worth $200,000. It added up to being $60,000 more than the same amount was worth last year. Now it was about hiring another foreman.

Rick Ness

Rick Ness

The underdog sat on a pile of gold at his Duncan Creek claim worth more than a million dollars. That’s because he still didn’t have a water license. He can’t mine there until that goes through. Rick explored the idea of venturing to a different piece of land while things get worked out. He headed to Lightning Creek to prospect if there was gold to mine. The claim was owned by his old landlord Troy Taylor. It was the man who sold him the Duncan Creek claim. Troy felt bad about the water license and hoped offering this opportunity would be a makegood.

Rick questioned if he could trust him. Rick ran a spot check to see if the juice was worth the squeeze. He and the team weighed the small sample and wished to get a gram on the two-yard run. It came in at .525, just half of what Rick was hoping for. Rick doesn’t think it’s worth it. “We’re screwed,” he declared.

Rick joined Parker and Tony in Dawson City where a local union has been working with miners without a no water license. Rick thought it was a waste of time. Rick, Tony, and Parker met for a drink and to reminisce. Parker and Tony thought he should reconsider the Lightning Cut. Based on their insight, Rick decided to make a run at Lightning Creek after all.

“Do you understand what kind of mess this girl is in? You don’t want to mess with these people.” “Oh I’m planning on it.” Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed an official trailer for a film called Hunting Season, a survival thriller from filmmaker Raja Collins. This is being dropped directly on VOD to watch starting in December if anyone is curious. When a reclusive survivalist and his daughter rescue a mysterious, wounded woman from a river, they become entangled in a deadly web of violence & revenge, forcing them to confront a brutal criminal to survive. Both the feisty girl who discovers her and the overprotective father are forever changed by the arrival of this mysterious stranger, and by the ruthless drug lord who will stop at nothing to kill her once and for all. The film stars Mel Gibson, Shelley Hennig, Sofia Hublitz, and Jordi Molla. Yet another bland, schlocky action thriller that most will never watch. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Raja Collins’ film Hunting Season, direct from YouTube:

Hunting Season Poster

When a mysterious young woman washes up on the bank of a local river, both the feisty twelve-year-old girl who discovers her and the overprotective father are forever changed by the arrival of this mysterious stranger into their home, and by the ruthless drug lord who will stop at nothing to kill her once and for all. Hunting Season is directed by indie producer / filmmaker Raja Collins (aka RJ Collins), director of the films American Sicario, Don’t Suck, and Crescent City previously. The screenplay is from Adam Hampton. Produced by Eduard Osipov, Eric Brenner, Vince Jolivette, David McCalib Jr, Dan Katzman, Al Bravo, Luke Wyckoff. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Goldwyn Films debuts Collins’ Hunting Season thriller in select US theaters + on VOD starting December 5th, 2025. Any good?

‘Ghosts’ Thanksgiving Episode Welcomes Ben Feldman Back to Woodstone in New Season 5 Photos

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Ghosts may have just welcomed back Trevor’s (Asher Grodman) daughter, Abby (Gideon Adlon), but the show is set to bring back another familiar face for its Thanksgiving-timed installment, “Planes, Shanes and Automobiles,” featuring Ben Feldman‘s Kyle.

As viewers will recall, Kyle was introduced in Season 4 as another living with the ability to see spirits, like Sam (Rose McIver). Fans may recall that he attempted to hit on Sam, but that didn’t work out too well. In that case, why is Kyle back? As the episode’s title hints, there will be a Planes, Trains and Automobiles angle to the storyline, but that’s not exactly where Kyle comes into play; instead, that’s Sam and Pete (Richie Moriarty).

The logline for the installment teases, “Unsatisfied with Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) ability to tend to their needs while Sam is away, the ghosts bring in a better babysitter, Kyle.” The logline goes on to reveal, “Sam and Pete get on each other’s nerves during a book tour road trip, and things reach a breaking point when an airline strike threatens their ability to get home in time for Thanksgiving.”

The quandary that Sam and Pete will face is certainly one that many holiday travelers can relate to, but as annoyed as they may get with one another, we’re sure they’ll bring laughs to viewers at home. And although Sam and Pete may be on the road, it appears most of the spirits of Woodstone will be staying put (as they can’t cross the ghost boundary). As seen in all-new images below, Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), Sasappis (Román Zaragoza), Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long), and Trevor are all on board for whatever Kyle has in store.

Check out the images below, and stay tuned for more on Ghosts in the weeks ahead as Season 5 continues on CBS.

The exhilarating, high-stakes spy action-thriller series created by the powerhouse duo Raj & DK under their banner—D2R Films, marks the return of the iconic spy, Srikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee), who now finds himself on the run along with his family from not only formidable new adversaries—Rukma (Jaideep Ahlawat) and Meera (Nimrat Kaur), but also from TASC, his own intelligence unit. With the tables turned and his life unravelling, the hunter has now become the hunted.

Family Man Season 3 Trailer Out

The explosive trailer draws audiences into the dangerous world of spies and espionage, as Srikant’s life spirals out of control while he faces nemeses unlike any before. Season 3 is replete with all the signature elements fans have come to love and expect from the series—witty dialogues, high-octane action, thrilling chases, and blurred lines between Srikant’s personal and undercover professional life. Torn between duty, emotions, and responsibilities, Srikant is racing against time, as he must protect not only himself and his family but also the nation from an imminent threat.

Raj & DK On Family Man Season 3

Creators, directors, and writers Raj & DK said, “Season 3 of The Family Man turns Srikant’s covert professional and fragile personal life upside down. He is forced to go on the run with his family while facing an even more alarming threat in Rukma and Meera. Both Jaideep and Nimrat are the perfect choice, as actors and personalities to embody these dynamic and menacing foes, testing not only Srikant’s grit and resolve but also his commitment to his family and his nation. Taking the story several notches higher the new season will grip audiences with its edge-of-the-seat tension and nail-biting moments as they witness their favourite spy navigating uncharted territories and peril.”

Manoj Bajpayee On Family Man Season 3

“For the past four years, fans have hounded me with the question, ‘Kab aa raha hai Srikant Tiwari?’ And we finally have the answer with a new season that’s not only bigger, bolder, and more exciting but also raises the stakes higher than ever for Srikant, as he finds himself cornered with no respite in sight,” said Manoj Bajpayee.

“Thanks to Raj and DK’s vision and masterful storytelling. And the continued support of Prime Video, The Family Man has become one of the most-loved Indian series. I, too, couldn’t wait for the show to return and step back into Srikant’s shoes for the third time, making it a true homecoming. I’m confident that audiences will enjoy the new season and continue to shower their love on the show and its unforgettable characters.”

Jaideep Ahlawat On Family Man Season 3

“I have always admired Raj and DK for their creative abilities and for bringing to life a series like The Family Man. It has become one of the most-watched and loved Indian series all over the world. And I am thrilled to be a part of the latest season. Prime Video and I have had an extremely successful and creatively enriching collaboration with Paatal Lok. I am excited for the audience to watch me in the new season of The Family Man. Without giving away much about my character, I am certain that everyone will be surprised to see me portraying this role,” said Jaideep Ahlawat.

Nimrat Kaur On Family Man Season 3

“Like the rest of the country, I’ve been a fan of The Family Man since season 1 and joining the series for Season 3. Especially as a formidable new force has truly been a dream come true,” remarked Nimrat Kaur.

“Playing Meera was both thrilling and challenging. As I had to match the caliber and performative brilliance of Manoj and Jaideep. And the way Raj, DK, and Suman have crafted the story with its rich characters and unpredictable twists, I believe audiences will want to binge the new season in one go.”

How ‘Elsbeth’ Season 3 Episode 5 Just Set up Recurring Arc for ‘The Good Fight’s Sarah Steele

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

What To Know

  • Elsbeth Season 3 Episode 5 introduces a new recurring arc with The Good Fight‘s Marissa Gold (Sarah Steele) running a mayoral campaign.
  • After sparks flew between Elsbeth and the candidate, Marissa hatched a scheme.
  • The episode features a murder case involving a poetry journal head (William Jackson Harper) who kills his donor.

[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Elsbeth Season 3 Episode 5, “Poetic Justice.”]

Elsbeth has great timing. The same week New York City elected Zohran Mamdani as its next mayor, the NYC-set CBS procedural introduced its own charismatic mayoral candidate — one whom Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) is now unwittingly connected to, thanks to a political scheme hatched by The Good Fight‘s Marissa Gold (Sarah Steele), who’s now following in her father, Eli Gold’s (Alan Cumming), footsteps with a career pivot into politics.

Elsbeth Season 3 Episode 5, “Poetic Justice,” starred William Jackson Harper as the killer of the week. He played Gary Pidgeon, the head of a prestigious poetry journal that was desperately struggling for funds (“The arts are under attack!” Harper’s Gary kept repeating). He killed his biggest donor to ensure that she didn’t rewrite her will to divert funds away from his journal and towards another. He likely would have gotten away with it had it not been for his sharing oddly specific details about the gas tank explosion during his chance first meeting with Elsbeth, who was attending a fundraising event for unhoused people with her friend, Dr. Yablonsky (Daniel Davis). Yablonsky served on Pidgeon Print’s board.

Before the run-in with the soon-to-be-revealed murderer, Elsbeth ran into her old pal, Sarah. She’s now running the mayoral campaign for Alec Bloom (Ivan Hernandez). Elsbeth and Alec shared a cute rapport that made Marissa ask, “Am I crazy, or am I sensing a vibe here?” They denied it, but the spark was there. Later, Marissa came to Elsbeth’s precinct to pitch an idea.

“I think Alec may have a woman problem, electorally speaking,” she said. “I think you two should have dinner.” She wanted to set up a date for publicity to make Alec seem more appealing to women voters. That, and, as Marissa described, “Your consent decree is kind of a magic bullet to position him well on policing for the electorate. He wants to see how the system can be changed from within.” With that, the date was set.

Michael Parmelee / CBS

The three of them met for a drink later on in the episode, and Elsbeth was moved by Alec’s story about being unhoused when he was younger and how it motivates him to want to take care of New Yorkers through public office. They shared a lot of interests as well, such as a love of musical theater and NYC tourist attractions.

Word got out to the press that Alec was seen on what looked like a date with a “mysterious redhead,” and the story went wide. When the three of them met up again, Elsbeth asked Alec and Marissa to inform the press that they weren’t an item because she didn’t want to feel like a “pawn” in their campaign, for personal reasons and because she has “serious work to do” in New York, so being painted as just a pretty love interest in the press isn’t a desirable look for her. Marissa agreed she would kill the story, but she didn’t.

The episode ended with Marissa back at the precinct and revealed that she “won’t let” Alec issue a statement saying that he and “the mysterious redhead” are just friends.

“Don’t tell Alec, but I’m the one who leaked the photos in the first place,” she revealed. “I said I didn’t want to be that person. Turns out, I am that person. I need you to listen to me carefully. It’s super important that you don’t make any moves or talk to anyone about this unless I tell you to. Elsbeth Tascioni, the future of New York is in your hands.” No pressure!

This tees up Marissa and Alec’s returns in Elsbeth Season 3 Episode 7, airing on Thursday, November 20. In the episode, Teddy (Elsbeth’s son, played by Ben Levi Ross) digs into Alec’s past for a feature he is working on. How will this be impacted by Elsbeth’s PR relationship with the mayoral candidate? Or will it help his chances? And could a real romance bloom out of this PR stunt? However it shakes down, Marissa is going to be pulling the strings.

Before Episode 7, Tony Hale, Dianne Wiest (as a nun!), and Henny Russell will guest star in Episode 6 (airing on Thursday, November 13). Russell plays Judge Milton Crawford’s (Michael Emerson) widow. Her meeting with Elsbeth is bound to cause a stir, according to Preston herself.

Maharani Season 4 REVIEW: ‘Rani Bharti’ Huma Qureshi Returns Strong But Fails Due To Weak Narrative In Dirty Politics

by jummy84 November 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Film:
Maharani Season 4

Bubble Rating:
2.0 stars

Director: Puneet Prakash

Writers: Subhash Kapoor, Nandan Singh, Uma Shankar Singh

Cast: Huma Qureshi, Kani Kusruti, Amit Sial, Pramod Pathak, Shweta Basu Prasad, Vineet Kumar, Shardul Bharadwaj, Vipin Sharma

Platform: SonyLIV

Runtime: 39 mins to 57 mins each episode

Maharani Season 4 Review

As rightly compared previously, Politics is just like a game of chess. Huma Qureshi, who portrays Rani Bharti, returns as the CM of Bihar. The opening scene highlights that Navin (Amit Sial) is visited by Murad Patel in jail from the PM Sudhakar Sriniwas Joshi’s (Vipin Sharma) office. He questions how to trouple Rani’s sarkaar and doesn’t leave a stone unturned to find out how. What Rani has to face now is either to trust her own instincts or close people in this game of dirty politics. This season raises questions of whether Rani will become the next PM, challenging Joshi and his alliance. Will Rani be able to keep her alliance close and enemies away? To find out what happens, read our review of Maharani Season 4.

What Works

Huma Qureshi, Shweta Basu Prasad, Shardul Bhardwaj, and other cast members play strong roles. Their accent and body language show every actor’s adaptability for their craft. The plot is good, however could have been carried out better. Dialogue writing and delivery are commendable.

What Doesn’t Work

Most scenes have been dragged. The plot twists are quite predictable and don’t carry enough weight for a political drama.

Technical Analysis

Direction

The direction in Maharani season 4 feels uninspired and lacks the precision needed for a compelling political drama. Although the premise holds promise, the storytelling often loses focus, with pacing issues and stretched-out sequences. The energy and urgency that once defined Rani’s political journey are notably absent, replaced by clichés and predictable moments.

Writing & Screenplay

The writing disappoints with its repetitive tone and lack of emotional grip. What could have been a sharp exploration of power and politics turns into a routine narrative filled with weak dialogue and forced melodrama. The screenplay struggles to weave together the political tension and personal dilemmas, leaving the overall story feeling scattered and inconsistent.

Star Performances

Huma Qureshi remains the show’s saving grace, bringing sincerity and conviction to her role. However, her efforts are weighed down by an uneven script and an underutilised supporting cast. Performances that could have added layers to the story instead feel flat and disconnected.

Conclusion

Maharani season 4 sadly fails to recreate the spark, intensity, and layered storytelling that once made the series compelling. The direction feels uninspired, with inconsistent pacing and scenes that lack dramatic tension. The writing, once sharp and politically charged, now feels diluted by repetitive dialogue and underdeveloped subplots.

Even the lead actors’ sincere effort can’t lift the show from its sluggish execution and emotional flatness. Supporting performances add little depth, leaving the narrative feeling hollow. Overall, the new season struggles to maintain its political intrigue or emotional resonance, making it a disappointing and forgettable continuation.

We hope our review of Maharani Season 4 will help you decide to watch it.

Korean skincare routine: 10 steps to get glass-like glowing skin in every season

by jummy84 November 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Korean Beauty, or K-Beauty as we know it, has been taking the global skincare by storm. Known for giving users a ‘glass skin’ look, the Korean skincare routine emphasises on hydration, nourishment, and consistency rather than quick fixes. If you’ve ever wondered how Koreans maintain their glowing, youthful skin, the secret lies in their 10-step skincare routine.

10 step Korean skincare routine for glowing skin(Freepik)

Korean skincare routine

While it may seem lengthy, each step serves a purpose in transforming dull skin into a luminous masterpiece. Let’s dive into this world of self-care and discover the 10 essential steps to glass-like glow.

1. Use an oil-based cleanser that melts away impurities

The first step in the Korean skincare routine is double cleansing, beginning with an oil-based cleanser. This step removes makeup, sunscreen, excess sebum, and oil-based impurities that water alone cannot dissolve.

Massage the cleanser gently onto your skin in circular motions to lift dirt and grime. Then rinse with lukewarm water. Popular choices include cleansing balms or micellar oils infused with ingredients like green tea, rice bran, or camellia oil.

Why it matters: It ensures a clean slate without stripping the skin’s natural moisture barrier, preparing it for deeper cleansing.

2. Water-based cleanser: Wash away sweat and residue

The second cleansing step in this skincare routine involves a foaming or gel cleanser to remove water-based impurities such as sweat and dirt. This ensures your pores are completely free of residue from the day.

Look for pH-balanced formulas that are gentle on the skin, avoiding harsh sulphates. Ingredients like centella asiatica, snail mucin, or tea tree extract can help soothe and purify the skin.

Why it matters: Double cleansing helps prevent breakouts and maintains skin clarity by ensuring no impurities linger.

3. Exfoliator: Polish away dead skin cells

Exfoliation is crucial but should be done only two to three times a week. This step helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, promoting a smoother and brighter texture. Choose between chemical exfoliants (like AHA, BHA, or PHA) for gentle resurfacing or physical exfoliants with fine particles for a mild scrub effect.

Why it matters: Regular exfoliation allows skincare products to penetrate more effectively, revealing fresh, glowing skin.

4. Toner: Balance and prep the skin

Toners in K-beauty are not harsh alcohol-based astringents, but hydrating preps that balance the skin’s pH and replenish moisture. They act as the first layer of hydration after cleansing and help the skin absorb the following products more efficiently. Use a hydrating toner with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, rose water, or bamboo extract.

Why it matters: A good toner restores balance and creates the perfect base for layering skincare.

5. Essence: The heart of Korean skincare

Essence is the soul of Korean beauty rituals. These combine the lightweight feel of a toner with the concentrated benefits of a serum. Packed with nourishing and hydrating ingredients, essences promote cell turnover and skin repair. Apply it by patting gently with your palms, not rubbing.

Why it matters: It provides deep hydration and enhances the overall glow, making skin plumper and more radiant.

6. Serum or ampoule: Target specific concerns

Serums and ampoules deliver highly concentrated active ingredients to address particular issues such as acne, pigmentation, dullness, or wrinkles. For glass-like skin, choose serums enriched with niacinamide, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, or snail mucin. These ingredients help brighten and smooth the complexion over time.

Why it matters: This step delivers the most potent nutrients directly into your skin cells for visible results.

7. Sheet mask – Indulge in intensive hydration

K-beauty’s iconic sheet masks are more than just a pampering treat, they are a hydration powerhouse. These single-use masks are soaked in nutrient-rich essence that penetrates deeply into the skin. Use it once a week, and leave it on for 15–20 minutes for maximum absorption.

Why it matters: Sheet masks flood the skin with moisture, leaving it supple, refreshed, and luminous.

8. Eye cream: Nourish the delicate under-eye area

The skin around the eyes is thin and prone to fine lines and puffiness. Applying a light yet nourishing eye cream keeps this area firm and hydrated. Look for ingredients like peptides, collagen, and caffeine to brighten dark circles and smooth wrinkles.

Why it matters: It prevents early signs of ageing and ensures your eyes look as radiant as the rest of your face.

9. Moisturiser: Lock in all the goodness

No skincare routine is complete without a moisturiser to seal in all the hydration and nutrients from previous steps. Choose a texture that suits your skin type, gel-based for oily skin, cream-based for dry skin, or emulsion-type for combination skin. Ingredients like ceramides, green tea, or squalene help strengthen the skin barrier.

Why it matters: Moisturiser locks everything in, ensuring long-lasting hydration and a smooth, soft finish.

10. Sunscreen: The ultimate protection

The final and most crucial step, sunscreen. Even the most luxurious skincare routine won’t matter if you skip this step. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, even on cloudy days or when indoors. Korean sunscreens are famous for being lightweight, non-greasy, and perfect for daily wear.

Why it matters: Sunscreen prevents premature ageing, pigmentation, and sun damage, maintaining your glass-like glow for the long term.

Final Thoughts

The 10-step Korean skincare routine isn’t just about layering products, it’s a ritual of self-love and consistency. While it might seem extensive, you don’t have to do all ten steps every day. The key is to listen to your skin and adjust accordingly.

One Piece has recruited Xolo Maridueña to play Portgas D. Ace in Season 3, Netflix announced on Wednesday. The 24-year-old is best known for his roles in Blue Beetle (2023) and Cobra Kai. Netflix’s One Piece live-action resumes production for Season 3 later this year in Cape Town, South Africa, the streaming giant said on Tudum. Meanwhile, the premiere date for Season 2 is set for March 10.

It follows protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, “on his quest to find the legendary fabled treasure, the One Piece, and become King of the Pirates,” according to the official logline.

Maridueña is among the latest cast members to join the show. The show recently announced that Broadway star Cole Escola will star as theatrical assassin Bon Clay in One Piece Season 3.

The Smurfs actor has worked with Netflix before, starring as Miguel Diaz in all six seasons of Cobra Kai, which is based on the Karate Kid franchise. During Geeked Week 2024, he served as a special correspondent alongside co-star Jacob Bertrand.

In Season 2, “Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line—a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies,” per the official logline.

The series stars Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

‘The Lowdown’ Creator Sterlin Harjo Explains Season 1 Fnale

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

[This story contains spoilers for “The Sensitive Kind,” the season finale of The Lowdown on FX.]

A lot of dark things have happened over the course of The Lowdown, including a host of murders; a man being literally tarred and feathered by a white supremacist cabal; and the death of an elderly Native man (played by Graham Greene) that series protagonist Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke) inadvertently caused. That’s all in keeping with the kinds of noir stories that influenced creator Sterlin Harjo.

The season finale of the FX series, however, breaks from the often despairing endings of many noir tales by giving the good guys some victories — albeit at a cost. After doggedly investigating the shady dealings of Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate Donald Washberg (Kyle MacLachlan) and the death of Donald’s brother Dale (TIm Blake Nelson), Lee prepares one final exposé about how Dale really died.

But after laying out the tale to Donald, he pivots, making a deal with Donald to return some Washberg family land — which Donald, through a group of business leaders, was set to sell to the aforementioned white supremacists known as One Well — to an Indigenous nation within Oklahoma. Lee, in turn, publishes not a damning takedown of the Washbergs (though he doesn’t pull punches) but a tribute to Dale that he titles “The Sensitive Kind” (which is also the name of the finale and was a working title for the series before it became The Lowdown). It even closes with a wedding, as Lee attends the marriage of his ex-wife Samantha (Kaniehtiio Horn) and her fiancé Johnny (Rafael Casal) and tries to explain to his daughter (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) why she’ll be better off living with Samantha and Johny full-time.

“I’m very proud of the finale,” Harjo, who directed and co-wrote the finale with Liz Blood, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it encapsulates everything that I like about doing this show. We were trying our best to land the plane, and I think that we did it.”

Harjo talked with THR about why he chose to move away from a bleaker ending, why Donald Washberg isn’t really a bad guy, his thoughts about possible future seasons — and how a conversation with rock legend Robert Plant inspired one of the funniest scenes in the episode.

One of the things that really struck me about the finale is that it ends on a more upbeat note than a lot of noir stories do. I’m curious why you chose that way to go for rather than the “Forget it, Jake” route.

It’s obviously not as grim as Chinatown is. But I think that there is a conflict at the end that we have to recognize, which is everything that Lee has said that he believes in as a truthstorian, he kind of has to go against by writing this article and not writing [a version of it] that he claims is going to get the Pulitzer Prize.

It’s a measure of, are you a good man? That’s something Betty Jo [Jeanne Tripplehorn] says early on the pilot, she’s talking about Dale like “He was a good man. He was good man.” Then we cut to Lee, and the question is superimposed over him as well. That’s, in the end, what he has to figure out. Is it worth bruising your ego and not writing this amazing article? Is that more important? Is that good? Is what’s righteous more important than that? There’s that conflict.

I don’t like happy endings, per se. I like them sliding right in the middle. I feel like it could have been happier, but it could definitely have been a lot more bleak. But also, it’s a show, and I feel like after taking people on this ride, I want to give them something [positive].

People have been saying to Lee throughout the show that his self-perception is not the way he comes off to other people, but after Chutto [Mato Wayuhi] throws the brick through his window and they have their conversation about how Lee caused Chutto’s grandfather’s death, it seems to be the moment where it finally sinks in that his crusade is not uniformly making the world a better place.

I think there’s a question of, as journalists, who are you writing for? Because [Lee] is not listening to the people around him that he supposedly cares about. Chutto has told him this is only going to cause problems, and he didn’t listen, and he got somebody killed. So who is truly writing for? Where does his passion lie? Is it really just to make a name for himself, or is it to tell the truth and to try to be as pure as you can in your endeavors. He kind of committed the worst sin as a journalist, because he was getting involved, and it got somebody killed. I mean, that’s one of the more bleak things. Yes, he has some personal triumphs and the show ends on an upbeat note, but man, there’s a dude dead because of him. That’s gonna weigh on you, and it’s going to probably make you question your line of work and what you’re doing, which I think had an effect on what he chose to do next, and why he chose to write the article about Dale.

Once Lee lays out the whole story of Dale’s death for Donald, he seems to really recoil from everything going on with One Well and says he didn’t really know the details. He just wanted the money. How much of that is genuinely true and how much of that is calculated on Donald’s part?

Oh, it’s politics, baby.

He does say that to one of his backers, but he seems to stride the line between genuinely being upset at learning about how involved his benefactor Frank [Tracy Letts] and Betty Jo were in Dale’s death and also a calculation that will help his election chances.

Without batting an eye, Donald can pivot and use this to help his endeavors to become governor. But I also think he does care about his brother and the truth, but what’s caring if you can’t also use it to better yourself and your family? I think that’s how Donald feels about life in general. He can walk away from Betty Jo easily for his career. And there were obviously feelings there, and I hope that it comes across that he probably has some real tears in there, and he’s inherently good, I think, but he’s not above using it for political gain.

You cast several people who are from Tulsa or other parts of Oklahoma — Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson and Tracy Letts most prominently — and I’m assuming that was not a coincidence. Why did you want to have some folks with ties to your location in the series?

I knew that they would be passionate about it, and I knew that they would understand the world. I think that when people watch the show, it feels like a very unique world to some people from the outside. You’ve got Native bodyguards that are guarding the store that just got out of prison, who are interacting with the guy that has the vinyl shop and the lawyer. You’ve got Cyrus, who’s got this quote-unquote booty rag — all of these people, and that’s very Oklahoma. It’s a very working-class state, and everyone that came here was in a bad situation, whether it was the Trail of Tears, freed slaves, an outlaw trying to find oil. Most of us come from people who were having to fight their way for survival. There is an ease and there is a sort of level playing field here, that I think people who are from here could understand. We all grew up together. Not that there aren’t problems, and not that there’s not division, but I feel like people from here understand the dynamics.

Also, I just wanted to celebrate them. They inspired me as a young filmmaker. I never left here, really. I’m from rural Oklahoma, and I was always really excited to see that people from here could be artists, and people from here could be in movies. I wanted to celebrate that and sort of reclaim them a bit and say, “Yeah, you’re ours” and give them that respect, because they’ve been out there doing things for so long. It was like, what if we do something at home? How would you feel about that? Everyone was really excited.

Ethan Hawke and Keith David in ‘The Lowdown.’

Shane Brown/FX

The finale has one of the funnier scenes I’ve seen in a while when Marty [Keith David] either gets grazed by a bullet or cut by broken glass as they’re leaving One Well and he’s screaming at Lee about the cow pills Lee gives him to dull the pain. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Keith David go that over the top funny before.

It was so fun. I’ll tell you where that came from — it’s a crazy story. The musician who does the score for the show, JD McPherson, he also plays guitar for Robert Plant and Alison Krauss and tours with them. One day he calls me up and says, “Sterlin, how would you feel about driving Robert Plant to the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve and going to see some free-range buffalo?” It’s up in Osage country. So I was like, of course, are you kidding me? I’ll drive Robert Plant anywhere. So I end up driving him to the Tallgrass Prairie with JD in the back. He’s the loveliest guy. He’s telling stories, and we’re just talking, chatting the whole time. I was really nervous about what music I would play while he’s in the car, and that was a nerve-wracking thing. I decided to play kind of old country, which he’s into.

We’re driving up there, and he starts telling this story about bovine vagina relaxant pills and how someone in [Led Zeppelin] — I’m not going to say the name, but do the math — someone in the band got into some of these one time. They were tuning up before the show, and they heard what was coming out of the person’s instrument, and Robert said, “I looked at Jimmy [Page], and I said, Jimmy, this is going to be an acoustic set.” Apparently, they’re very strong. He told me this story, and it just stuck with me. I was like, I’ve got to find a way to get that in there.

Then I thought, I haven’t seen Keith David go wild like that, and I want to see it, so I wrote it. Filming it was so funny. I couldn’t hold it together. There’s just something about Keith David frustrated and cursing. That is some of the funniest things. He’s got the best line readings of anyone when he’s cursing, I believe. It was one of my favorite days of shooting.

When Marty brings Donald to meet with Lee at Cyrus’ [Mike “Killer Mike” Render] place, I thought it was a really nice echo of the cop blowout in episode five — I assume that was intentional as well?

It was definitely an exact mirror, like a smaller, more intimate mirror of that scene. Lee probably told Cyrus about it, and, Lee’s like, “Man, I’m gonna fuck with this guy too. I’m gonna give it back to him.” It was so fun shooting that, because everyone was so excited. I went in and talked to everyone that was in the scene. I had cousins in the scene and stuff. I said, “Look, here’s who Donald Washergn is. This is what we’re doing. Feel free to give them attitude.” We’re mirroring this scene where they took [Lee] to a cop party, and it was very intimidating. I was like, “I want you all to intimidate the shit out of [Donald]. Do what you need to do.” [laughs] It was supposed to mirror that and not be just a cute coincidence. But also, it represents Cyrus and his neighborhood, and it’s a place where Donald’s really out of his comfort zone, because he’s not politicking. I think that it really shows his vulnerability — and Donald’s not a bad guy, you know? Earlier [in episode seven], when the Native protesters come to him when he’s doing the land grab [re-enactment], I made sure in the script that he addresses the protester as Irene. He knows her, and he knows her so well, it’s a first-name basis. I don’t think he’s a bad guy. He’s probably talked to her, he’s dealt with her, and he knows who she is. He’s not an inherently racist guy, but he’s also, without even knowing it, participating in something that is systemically racist. Those nuances were really important for me to tell.

FX hasn’t made the call on a second season yet, but where would you want to see the show go from here?

I mean, I’ve thought about many seasons of this show. I’ve thought about other projects — there was always an idea of going deeper into Oklahoma and some of these relationships that Lee has made in the first season. And you look at your show and see how people are responding. People love Waylon [Cody Lightning], so I wonder what [there is to explore with him]. And Cyrus — Killer Mike is amazing. Sometimes that stuff guides it. I have ideas. I was telling somebody, The Rockford Files did it every episode. We could do every season.
