Weight loss coach reveals 5 things to do immediately after waking up for women to lose their belly fat

Belly fat is one hardest regions to lose weight and slim down. But sometimes, the process of dropping belly fat can become easier based on what you do after waking up. Small morning habits support your system, regulate your hormones and improve metabolism for the rest of the day. Weight loss coach Akanni Salako shared in a September 26 Instagram post on 5 things women can do after waking up to ease up belly weight loss process.

Here are the 5 habits he suggested:

1. Drinking water with psyllium husk

First up, he suggested ‘restoring gut health’ early in the morning. Akanni shared, “Every morning, 8 ounces of water, some psyllium husk and apple cider vinegar. This helps reduce bloating and support digestion before food hits your system.” A healthy gut is essential in kickstarting your metabolism for the day.

2. Eat a GLP-1 boosting breakfast

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, making it crucial to eat foods that help with satiety, suppress appetite, and regulate blood sugar, to avoid crashes later in the day.

He suggested, “This can look like eggs, avocados and berries in the morning. This keeps you full longer and then supports the hormones that regulate your appetite and your blood sugar.”

3. Avoid high insulin foods

Deciding what to eat for breakfast is vital as it sets the mood and energy for the day. The weight loss coach cautioned against foods that may spike insulin, such as the classic breakfast staples, such as cereals, toast, and sugary lattes.

4. Don’t drink coffee immediately

The idea of bed tea or bed coffee may seem tempting, a cosy way to sip and begin the day in bed, but the weight loss coach instead emphasised delaying the coffee in the morning.

Rather, according to him, the correct order should be, “I need you to have water first, then your protein and then have your coffee. This balances your cortisol levels so we don’t have stress spikes right away.”

5. Walk for a while

Morning routine may seem hectic, grabbing some coffee and commuting to work and then sitting down to remain immobile and inactive in a chair for long hours. Akanni instead urged to walk for a minimum of 10 minutes to get some sunlight. As per him, it benefits the internal body’s clock. He said, “This boosts your mood, increases your metabolism and helps regulate your circadian rhythm, which is what is going to help you sleep better at night.” So how you begin your day impacts how you end it!

Fat loss coach warns this is why your joints hurt every time you work out: ‘It’s not just age’

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

As you are exercising, when your knees ache, you may often blame it on your age. But joint pain does not always originate from age. In many cases, it’s rooted in hormonal changes. Isaiah Fergusson, a sustainable fat loss coach, revealed in a June 18 Instagram post that the knee pain is a wake-up call for you to start training your body in tandem with the body’s functioning, not against it.

Knee pain is common when exercising. (PC: Freepik)

ALSO READ: Poor knee health in older adults: 5 exercises to improve joint strength

Hormonal causes

Estrogen’s fluctuation causes this. As the coach noted that when the estrogen levels fall, the body takes longer to recover from a workout. Now the tendons and ligaments of the knee lose their resilience and become more susceptible to strain.

Along with this, there are also risks of inflammation, causing more chances of injuries. Isaiah said, “Lower estrogen levels lead to a longer recovery period, your tendons will not bounce back the way they used to, estrogen has an impact on your tendon health, on your ligament health as well. Your body is also more inflamed than it has ever been in your life, so injuries will happen a lot easier and they will stick around for a lot longer.”

How to prevent?

So how do you prevent your ligaments and tendons from straining? According to Isaiah, the solution is to train the body in a way that supports it. He emphasised prioritising recovery time, along with adding anti-inflammatory foods to the diet, because inflammation around the knee may also cause pain.

He said, “So instead of training harder start training smarter, work on your mobility, work on getting stronger and recovering better, when you pair this with eating more anti-inflammatory foods, you will have less pain and more mobility in your joints.”

So, in other words, joint pain doesn’t mean you halt your workout. Instead, focus on smarter training, ensure you recover well, and choose a better diet.

Fitness coach says ‘walking is the most underrated fat loss tool’; shares 7 cheat codes to help you burn more calories

Walking is something most of us do every day, whether for fitness, commuting, or just clearing our heads. But what if this simple activity could actually help you burn more fat and even add years to your life? Fitness coach Dan Go shares in his September 16 Instagram post 7 cheat codes to make your walks smarter and more effective. (Also read: Fitness coach says ‘walk like your life depends on it’, shares 10 rules to melt belly fat and get lean by New Year )

Simple walking routines can significantly improve fat loss and energy levels. (Pexels)

Let’s take a look at his recommendations:

1. Japanese interval walking

Alternate 3 minutes fast with 3 minutes slow for 30 minutes. Studies show this burns more fat, lowers blood pressure, and improves VO2 max better than steady walking.

2. Incline walking

A 5% grade can boost calorie burn by nearly 50%, while a 10% grade can double it. Plus, walking uphill puts less stress on the knees since your hips and glutes take more load.

3. Walk after meals

Just 2–5 minutes of walking after eating can blunt glucose spikes by around 30%. This means fewer cravings, steadier energy, and less fat storage.

4. Fasted morning walk

Walking before breakfast, when insulin is low, encourages your body to tap into fat for fuel. Doing it outside also helps set your circadian rhythm and energises you for the day.

5. Under-the-desk treadmill

Perfect for busy schedules, pair a standing desk with an under-the-desk treadmill to sneak in steps while working. Walking meetings or voice-to-text apps can make multitasking easy.

6. Pyramid walking intervals

Burn fat while building endurance: Warm up for 5 minutes easy, then increase speed and incline slightly every 10 minutes. Finish with 4 minutes at your toughest pace, then cool down.

7. Rucking

Add 5–10% of your body weight to a backpack during your walk. This increases calorie burn and strengthens your legs, core, and bones at the same time.

“Walking is the most underrated fat-loss tool, where small tweaks can equal massive results,” says Dan.

Fat loss coach reveals the fitness industry’s best kept weight loss secret for women over 40

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

For many women over 40, hours of punishing workouts, endless cardio sessions, and strict calorie cuts often lead to little or no progress on the scale. In fact, this approach can leave the body more stressed, drained, and resistant to fat loss.

Sustainable fat loss expert Isaiah Fergusson has revealed the fitness industry’s best kept secret to burning fat for women in this age group – walking. In an Instagram video posted on August 27, the weight loss coach explains that pushing the body with high-intensity training, endless cardio, and severe calorie cuts can actually backfire after 40, as the body begins to play by different rules. Instead, he highlights walking as a powerful yet underrated tool for fat loss – one that burns more calories than most people realise, while supporting the body without exhausting it.

Walking for weight loss

According to Isaiah, walking is the most overlooked fat loss method in women over 40. For years, the fitness industry has promoted intense cardio, boot camps, and HIIT sessions as the ultimate fat loss solution. But for women over 40, these workouts may actually backfire – raising stress hormones, spiking blood sugar, and making weight loss harder.

Walking is simple, free and sustainable, hence it is overlooked by the fitness industry and considered not hard enough. “For decades, you’ve probably been told that the answer to getting results is to sweat harder, push more, train more, work out more, burn more calories. But after 40, you have to play by a different set of rules,” says Isaiah, and continues, “There’s more stress, more cortisol, more blood sugar swings, and all of this grinding it out and trying to white knuckle your weight through training sessions – it only makes things worse.”

Also Read | Men’s fitness coach shares top 5 things to do if you ‘want to get shredded quickly in your 40s’: Don’t cut carbs

Benefits of walking

According to the fitness coach, walking lowers stress and cortisol levels as well as blood sugar levels, while also improving mental health, and he also adds that walking burns more calories than you realise, without taking a toll on your body. He explains, “Walking is considered non-exercise activity thermogenesis, which accounts for at least 30% of the calories that we burn on a daily basis.”

Isaiah points out that the key to sustainable fat loss after 40 is to stop working against your body. Instead of punishing workouts and strict calorie cuts, adopting daily walking can create long-term results without exhausting your system.

Nutritionist explains why skin becomes saggy after weight loss, suggests 3 hacks to prevent it

by jummy84 September 13, 2025

Updated on: Sept 13, 2025 05:40 pm IST

After weight loss, the areas that stored excess fat, like belly or arms, can develop wrinkled skin. Nutritionist Dr Shikha Singh shares how you can prevent it.

Reaching your desired weight goal is a major achievement, especially for those who have been working to lose weight for a long time. But weight loss, particularly for obese individuals, can come with the side effect of loose and saggy skin. The skin loses its firmness and may appear creased, wrinkled, or jiggly due to increased softness.

But, this side effect can be minimised by following some key habits that support skin elasticity and improve firmness.

Dr Shikha Singh, a clinical nutritionist who often shares insights on fitness, revealed in an August 12 Instagram post why skin sags after weight loss and how one can avoid it.

Why does skin sag after weight loss?

Dr Singh drew an interesting analogy to explain why skin sags. She took two balloons, one in a normal deflated state, and the other that she inflated and then released all the air from. The balloon that had been inflated appeared wrinkled compared to the one that was not filled. According to Dr Singh, the same principle applies to our fat cells.

She explained in Hindi, “This is what happens with our fat cells. When we gain weight, fat fills up in our fat cells and they expand. When we lose weight, the fat leaves, and the fat cells shrink, but they don’t return to their original shape. Fat cells stay ready so that if we gain weight again, they can quickly store fat again.”

How to avoid loose skin?

To maintain skin firmness after losing weight, Dr Singh recommended adding protein to every meal. Second, she suggested drinking three litres of water throughout the day to stay well hydrated. And lastly, she advised staying active by doing 30-45 minutes of brisk walking daily and including strength training after weight loss.

HEALTH Channel Anger and Fear on “ORDINARY LOSS”

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Heavy Song of the Week is a feature on Heavy Consequence breaking down the top metal, punk, and hard rock tracks you need to hear every Friday. This week, No. 1 goes to HEALTH’s new single “ORDINARY LOSS.”

HEALTH have described their new album as one of “anger, fear, and catharsis,” and the band’s decision to announce it amidst this week’s news cycle — on September 11th of all days — seems calculated to some degree. Singer Jacob Duzsik pretty much sums it up in his album-announce quote, one of the more eye-opening press release quotes we’ve encountered in some time:

“The future is shit and the phone you are reading this on is making it worse, but please don’t put it down.”

The misanthropy extends to the music itself, as heard on the opening track and lead single “ORDINARY LOSS.” Electro-industrial percussion pounds away through a claustrophobic mix, the only concession to melody being Duzsik’s unmistakable, clean-sung coos. But even those are used to transport some grim phrases (“All that’s left is sadness” … “The dead are blessed with no dreams”). Harsh music for harsher times.

Honorable Mentions:

AFI – “Holy Visions”

“Holy Visions” is another fine example of AFI‘s current sonic direction, which is basically full-blown ’80s gothic new-wave worship. If there’s one knock on this track versus the previous single — a HSOTW selection — it’s that AFI get a little too ’80s trope-y here, whereas “Behind the Clock” saw the band exploring an open-ended arrangement that was more distinct in character. Still, this is topshelf stuff if you’re in the market for goth new wave in 2025.

Bad Omens – “Impose”

Bad Omens continue to subvert expectations, ditching metal and metalcore entirely on the R&B-tinged “Impose.” The use of breakbeats and electronic textures results in a melodic cascade that rises and falls in volume. Singer Noah Sebastian follows suit, his emotive vocals remaining steady and unwavering, never quite rising to a scream. The band wear this style well — maybe too well, at least for the contingency of fans who prefer when Bad Omens keep it more metalcore.

Coheed and Cambria – “Key Entity Extraction VII: Yuko the Trivial”

If you don’t keep up with Coheed and Cambria‘s ongoing world-building concept albums — the band has its own saga of sci-fi lore at this point — approaching a song titled “Key Entity Extraction VII: Yuko the Trivial” might seem like jumping into the proverbial deep end. Thankfully, you don’t need to know much about the band’s “entities” or storylines to enjoy their latest single. This four-minute pop rocker is as accessible as anything in the band’s canon, and even if the lyrics are informed by a narrative, they’re universal enough to stand on their own.

Gynaecologist shares 10 red flags of hormonal imbalance to watch out for: Weight gain, mood swings, hair loss and more

by jummy84 September 11, 2025

Hormones are chemical messengers responsible for proper functioning of the body. From menstrual cycle to metabolism to mood regulation, hormones play a significant role in each of these processes. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Aruna Kalra, director, obstetrics and gynecology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram said, “When hormone levels get too high or too low, changes in your health become obvious. Identifying these early on can lead you to get timely medical attention and avoid complications.” Also read | Doctor shares 7 facts about hormonal imbalance: ‘Eating less and moving more won’t fix you’

Dr Aruna Kalra further shared 10 signs of hormonal imbalance that we should know:

1. Irregular or skipped periods

Abnormal changes in your menstrual pattern, like heavier or lighter than usual bleeding, skipped periods, or erratic timing, can indicate conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disease, or perimenopause.

2. Unexplained weight changes

Weight gain or loss that occurs without shifts in your diet or exercise habits can signal imbalances in hormones like insulin, cortisol, or thyroid hormone.

3. Persistent fatigue

Chronic exhaustion in spite of proper rest may be associated with hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue, or hormonal shifts in reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progesterone.

4. Mood changes and anxiety

Sudden irritability, mood swings, or heightened anxiety can be seen when levels of estrogen and progesterone change, particularly at PMS, perimenopause, or postpartum.

5. Skin problems

Adult acne, excess oiliness, or dryness can be caused by elevated androgen levels or decreased estrogen, both of which can influence oil production and skin health. Also read | Nutritionist reveals 6 daily habits that impact your hormonal health, affect PCOD symptoms

6. Hair loss or excess hair growth

Scalp hair loss or excessive facial and body hair can be a sign of hormonal conditions such as PCOS or thyroid disorders.

7. Hot flashes and night sweats

Sudden spells of heat or sweating, especially at night, are commonly associated with low estrogen levels during perimenopause and menopause.

8. Sleep disturbances

Sleeping or falling asleep might become a challenge when progesterone or estrogen levels decrease.

9. Decreased sex drive

Loss of sex drive may result from low levels of estrogen, testosterone, or thyroid hormones.

10. Digestive problems

Bloating, constipation, or diarrhea occurring in sync with your menstrual cycle can also be caused by hormone changes. Also read | Hormonal imbalance and mental health: Doctor shares 5 ways how hormones can affect your mood

Kathy Bates has defiant response to critics claiming weight loss is all down to Ozempic

by jummy84 September 11, 2025

11 September 2025

Kathy Bates has fired back at critics claiming her weight loss was all down to Ozempic.

Kathy Bates has reflected on her weight loss

The 77-year-old actress – who has lost around 100lbs since being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017 – insisted while she eventually turned to the weight loss drug, she put in years of effort to get to where she wants to be.

She told Variety: “People say, ‘Well, it was the Ozempic.’ F*** you, it was the Ozempic! It took me years to do this.

“I got this diagnosis about diabetes — my father died of it; his mother died of it; one of my sisters is in peril.

“When they said ’diabetes,’ I figured out what to do to slowly, over years, to lose the weight.

“And then when Ozempic came along, I was able to lose the last 15 to 20 pounds and keep it off.”

The Matlock star – who is healthy after battling ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2012 – explained that she “finally” feels like herself.

She added: “I finally feel like I’m who I am. I’ve fought my way through the rapids. I feel this is the best time of my life. I’m glad I stuck around for it!”

However, the aftermath of her weightless can still be overwhelming as she tries to get used to her new figure and lifestyle.

She said: “[My stylist] had a beautiful dress for me to try. I looked at it on the hanger, and I thought, ‘That’s not gonna fit.’

“I put it on, and it fit, and I just melted down. I just started crying and crying. I’m still figuring out what it’s like to be without all of that weight.

“What was it for? What was I hiding myself from? What are the emotions that are pouring out because I don’t have that armor? It just really surprised me, really shocked me.”
