Teyana Taylor & Leonardo DiCaprio’s Film ‘One Battle After Another’ Faces Massive $100 Million Box Office Loss Despite Critical Praise

Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor’s new film “One Battle After Another” is being hailed by viewers but it’s struggling to make its money back.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the Warner Bros. drama reportedly cost around $130 million to produce and another $70 million to promote. So far, it’s earned about $140 million worldwide, falling short of what’s needed to turn a profit.

“These prestige-type movies have failed to create a sense of FOMO among audiences,” says Fandango box office analyst Shawn Robbins in a statement to Variety. Warner Bros. pushed back on reports of a $100 million loss, saying, “Films across the studio’s slate, including ‘One Battle After Another,’ have achieved financial reward in 2025 with more than $4 billion earned to date.”

Despite the numbers, “One Battle After Another” is generating major Oscar buzz for its emotional storytelling and standout performances by DiCaprio and Taylor.

Charlie Kaplan Wrings a Masterpiece Out of Love, Pain, and Loss » PopMatters

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

The title of Charlie Kaplan’s latest album stems from an episode involving his father, who was being visited in the hospital by a longtime friend. When his friend laid his baseball cap on Charlie‘s father’s bed, the usually polite–but–superstitious elder Kaplan was abruptly shocked. “In old cowboy movies,” he said, in a story recounted by Charlie himself in the press notes, “a hat on the bed is an omen, a premonition that someone will die”.

Indeed, A Hat Upon the Bed is a tribute to Kaplan’s father, who passed away in 2013, as well as to his son, born in 2025. This “fatherless decade” between those two events was a source of love and pain, which Kaplan has used as inspiration for this, perhaps his most personal and brutally honest work. The record’s core band consists of Winston Cook-Wilson (Kaplan’s bandmate in Office Culture) on keyboards, Andrew Daly Frank on lead guitar, Julian Cubillos on bass, and Jason Burger on drums. These are longtime friends and collaborators of Kaplan’s and can navigate his eclectic songs with ease.

A Hat Upon the Bed is, according to Kaplan, about “the line between the knowable and unknowable; truth and superstition; science and magic; natural and supernatural; life and death”. Kaplan may not have the answers, but he enjoys pondering them, and the unknowingness of death and the unshakable bonds of love result in some beautiful, open-ended music. The record begins and ends with brief instrumental tracks: “Seaside” on acoustic guitar and “Sandy” on piano. These songs are small sonic morsels that beautifully bookend the LP.

The title track begins the album proper as an airy, ethereal folk piece on love and loss, supported by Zosha Warpeha on five-string viola and Kristen Drymala on cello, players who appear on several songs and are arranged sublimely by Cook-Wilson. “Begging forgiveness from no one,” Kaplan sings. “And slipping away / Down leafy street corners / There’s always more we can say.” One of Kaplan’s many strengths as a songwriter and arranger is his innate ability to seamlessly transition between different subgenres, making it seem effortless.

“Halley”, inspired by Kaplan’s father’s habit of gazing at the stars on their front stoop, is a gauzy slab of melodic shoegaze, while “Fear of Choking” is a low-key baroque pop gem that brings to mind the sophisticated songcraft of Paul McCartney. The piano-driven “Leading Man” sounds like an earworm straight out of a 1970s AM radio. “Transmission,” meanwhile, amps up the surrealism, with an open-ended, rudderless feel that you want to get lost in long past its five-and-a-half-minute run time.

Kaplan makes numerous excellent choices, often venturing into unique territory. Much like “Mescarole”, on his 2024 album Eternal Repeater, the straightforward “I’m In Love with You” is based around a very brief lyric couplet (“It’s true, I’m in love with you / What am I gonna do?”) as the band swirls around him in an intoxicating Wall of Sound production style. Kaplan is obviously a fan of rock and roll in its purest form. You can almost hear Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers loping their way through the easy groove of “No More Mistakes”, which features more of those irresistible strings.

Elsewhere, Kaplan seems to broach the subject of the climate crisis with the loping, tuneful “Is It Gonna Be Alright”, acknowledging specific fears in the verses, and expressing a quizzical tone in the chorus: “All of this is going away / But it’s alright now / Living for another day / But it’s alright now.” The directness of the hypnotic “No Way Am I” sparks an occasionally angry tone, as he sings “I know you go so far up your own ass / You didn’t know how I grew up so fast.”

One of the record’s emotional high points, however, is probably the sweet, heartfelt “Heaven”, performed by Kaplan on vocals on acoustic guitar. It’s a simple arrangement, but Kaplan’s emotions are elegant and heartfelt in the lyrics, where he acknowledges his deep love for his son, or perhaps his father, or both? “I could never tell you how much I loved you,” Kaplan sings. “Even if I had a million years / So it was just a matter of time before I lost you / If it was a needle in a haystack I’d die trying to find it / Give away all may days in pursuit / I won’t mind it.”

It’s no surprise that A Hat Upon the Bed is a double album. Charlie Kaplan has so much to unload that chronicles that “fatherless decade”. He’s always been a master of creating the perfect arrangement around his engaging, deeply felt compositions, but this time around, he’s at his absolute peak. A Hat Upon the Bed is a towering, emotionally honest work of art.

Ryan Seacrest Reacts After Contestant’s ‘Awkward’ $61,000 Loss

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

A Wheel of Fortune contestant had an “awkward” loss during the Bonus Round, which resulted in them not taking home $61,000. Host Ryan Seacrest reacted to what happened after they could only figure out one word.

Cherie Noisette, from Oak Lawn, Illinois, played against Kaycee Hallett, from Oak Harbor, Ohio, and Roger Hapka, from Carlsbad, California, on Wednesday, October 15. Noisette is a consummate hostess and a former motorcycle rider.

Noisette solved the first toss-up and Hapka, a man deemed “Mr. Fix It”, solved the second. Noisette took the lead when she solved the first puzzle, which was a crossword in the category “Miami.” She solved “Dolphins,” “Beaches,” and “Vice” for $12,350. She also solved the next puzzle — “Snuck Snacks Into a Movie Theater” — and obtained a Wild card and $17,350.

During the Prize Puzzle round, she landed on the Express Wedge and guessed a “D,” but since it wasn’t in the puzzle, she went Bankrupt and had to get rid of her Wild Card. Hapka solved “Top-Notch Fishing” and won a trip to Tampa Bay, Florida, giving him a total of $13,680.

Noisette solved two of the three triple toss-ups, giving her $4,000. Hapka solved the last one, giving him $2,000 more. Hallett, a comic book fan, finally got on the board when she solved the final puzzle — “Flamingos” — for $3,200.

“I’m so happy for you!” Seacrest said. “I was crossing my fingers.”

Hapka ended with $15,680. The big winner was Noisette with $21,350, and she advanced to the Bonus Round, where she picked “Phrase.” The game show contestant brought her aunt and two of her cousins with her.

After being given “R,S,T,L,N, and E,” Noisette chose “D,M,H, and A.” Her puzzle then looked like “_ _ND  _ _   A_ _ _ARD.”

As the clock counted down, she guessed “Something Awkward,” but couldn’t guess the beginning of it.

“Well, it’s ‘Kind of Awkward’,” Seacrest chuckled. “Nice try!” He showed her the $40,000 in the envelope, which would have given her a total of $61,350. “That’s alright!”

“That was… just like that awkward to lose out on the $40,000,” a YouTube user said.

“This has been going on since Thursday, and it’s a kind of awkward situation. The answer to today’s puzzle tells the story,” wrote another.

“Ugh, I had no idea also,” added a third.

Kate Middleton Supports Baby Loss Charity, a Cause Close to the Royal Family

On October 15, people around the world light “Wave of Light” candles to honor babies who have died. It is the second year that the Prince and Princess of Wales have contributed to the effort, and in 2024, Catherine penned a heartfelt message alongside a photograph of her candle. “Baby Loss Awareness Week is such an important moment to support those who have experienced the devastation of baby loss,’ she wrote. ”Sending love, strength and hope to anyone affected. #WaveofLight.” The note was signed off with a C, to indicate that Catherine herself had written it.

Designed as a collaboration between Plum & Ashby, Tommy’s, and author Elle Wright, the candles have been created especially for the Wave of Light project. The candle comes packaged with a “remembering card,” allowing the owner to write down and reflect upon “precious names, dates, or words of love” as they pay tribute.

In 2022, both Kate Middleton and Prince William took to their official social media accounts to share a message of support and a list of resources for those who had suffered the tragedy of losing a baby.

The Princess of Wales, pictured in 2023, has been a long-time supporter of the charity Tommy’s, and on 15 October paid a touching tribute to those who have experienced miscarriages and stillbirths

“Taking a moment this Baby Loss Awareness Week to think about all those who’ve been affected by pregnancy and baby loss,” wrote the couple on their Instagram stories, before directing followers to support services like Child Bereavement UK, the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, Sands Charity, and Tommy’s.

“Please do reach out if you feel it could help you or someone you know,” they wrote.

Weight loss coach shares 5 carbs for easy fat loss, saying, ‘Carbs are not the enemy…’

Carbs often take up a fair share of the blame for weight gain. Carbs, despite being an essential macronutrient, are usually villainised to the point of being completely eliminated from the diet. But the reality is much more nuanced, and you don’t need to impose a blanket ban on carbs.

Melissa, a weight loss coach, shared in a September 9 post, debunking the misconception of carbs being the enemy. She explained, “Carbs are not the enemy. I have a client who’s 75 lbs down and eats carbs daily because she’s in a calorie deficit.”

She drew attention to complex carbs’ ability to keep you full for a long time, reducing the chances of derailing calorie-deficit plans by giving in to hunger pangs.

Melissa shared these 6 carbs which help you with weight loss:

1. Oats

First up is oats. The weight loss coach highlighted it’s a good source of soluble fibre, which in turn slows digestion and keeps you full for longer. This also helps to lower hunger pangs, control appetite and reduce snacking urges.

Melissa too, has this carb in her diet. She added, “I make overnight oats or add protein powder to my quick oatmeal in the morning!”

2. Whole-grain bread

Bread is a common source of carbs, but which one you have makes a big difference. Melissa recommended whole-grain bread as it is high in fibre and contains vitamins, iron, magnesium and antioxidants. Often, other types of breads may not have these nutrients. The weight loss coach shared that she often included whole-grain bread in her diet, either as toast with eggs or in her lunch sandwich

3. Non-starchy vegetables

Veggies may not often pop up in mind when you think of calories, but vegetables also contain carbs. According to Melissa, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, kale, zucchini, bell peppers, and asparagus are some of the options which are low in calories but high in fibre and water. She added, “They fill you up! Also, helps regulate blood sugar and reduce cravings.” For the weight loss coach, half of the plate is occupied by non-starchy veggies.

4. Fruit

Fruits also contain carbs. Melissa revealed that they are naturally sweet, rich in fibre and contain antioxidants. She eats fruit as a snack or with nut butter or Greek yoghurt.

5. Sweet potatoes

The sweeter counterpart of potatoes is on this list, as Melissa highlighted its high fibre content, which keeps hunger at bay. She called it versatile, as it can easily fit in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

6. Brown, basmati or jasmine rice

Instead of cutting out rice completely, the weight loss coach recommended healthier alternatives like brown, basmati, or jasmine rice, as they are gluten-free and provide a steady source of glucose. For meal planning, she shared that she often mixes rice with cauliflower to create a satisfying, filling meal.

Trolls Called Her Weight Loss ‘Unnatural,’ But Alia Bhatt’s Response Will Shut Them Down! | Glamsham.com

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt made a frank visit on the second episode of Amazon Prime’s chat show Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle. In an open chat with hosts Kajol and Twinkle Khanna, 32-year-old Alia shared about her postpartum experience after giving birth to her daughter, Raha, in November 2022.

Alia disclosed that she put on a lot of weight when she was pregnant, as is the case for many new mothers. But she also disclosed that her body lost the excess kilos much quicker than anticipated. “Post-delivery, after giving birth to Raha, actually I gained quite a lot of weight. I was lactating, and lactation burns a lot of calories, and I was also consuming clean.”. So I lost a lot of the weight really fast,” she explained.

Breastfeeding, which is known to speed up calorie burning, contributed heavily to her weight loss. Coupled with a healthy and clean diet, Alia’s body underwent natural change to the new regime. But her rapid change after pregnancy was not ignored or uncriticized.

Alia addressed the trolling she encountered online after her photo went viral, in which she was pictured with her clearly skinnier body. Far from being showered with compliments or merely left undisturbed, she was subjected to unnecessary suspicion and criticism. “I recall there was this picture that came out and they were like ‘Oh my god,’ there were trolls, claiming she has done this through unnatural process.”. ‘Why did she lose weight so fast? It’s okay, relax, Alia.’ This I saw and I was like ‘Oh no, things happened this way naturally.’

She complained about being judged for something she could not control, stating that each woman’s postpartum recovery process is unique. The actress clarified that although others might take a while to get their pre-pregnancy figures back, others such as herself might make the transition faster because of personal reasons.

Alia’s words highlight the stresses put on new mothers, particularly in the public spotlight. Her candor not only dispels myths surrounding postpartum weight loss but also evokes sympathy and empathy for women journeying through motherhood in their own time.

HGTV’s Jenny Marrs Can’t Sleep, Addresses Grief After Heartbreaking Loss

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Jenny Marrs shared a heartfelt post on social media on Wednesday (October 1), opening up about dealing with grief and the “deep heartache” she has been feeling in recent weeks.

The HGTV star recently lost her mother-in-law, Donna, the mother of her husband and Fixer to Fabulous co-star, Dave Marrs. Last month, both Jenny and Dave posted tributes, with Jenny writing on Instagram, “[Donna] taught me how to be the kind of mother-in-law and the kind of grandmother who I can’t even begin to imagine this earth without.”

On Wednesday, Jenny returned to Instagram to reveal she hasn’t “slept well the last two weeks,” admitting, “Grief seeps in at night most acutely, once I slow down from the day’s activity.”

“Each day is a disorienting experience – life continues to move forward as I am simply trying to reconcile my deep heartache with the sunshine out the window and the pressing demands on my time,” she added.

However, she has been finding solace in words from her own book, Trust God, Love People, which is scheduled for release on October 7.

“This morning, I was sorting through emails for next week’s book launch and happened across a handful of audio files from the audio book I recorded,” Jenny shared. “I opened this one from the “Lessons from the Farm” chapter and I felt my own words speak life to my heart… Maybe someone else needed them today too.”

In the accompanying audio clip, Jenny says, “Farm life can be both beautiful and brutal. That day was certainly one of the hardest days. While we’ve witnessed hundreds of joy-filled miracles here on this little patch of land, we’ve also experienced deep grief.”

It’s unclear from the clip which death Jenny is speaking about specifically, but the designer has been open in recent months about several devastating losses. Earlier this year, she revealed the passing of her beloved neighbor Bob, and then, four months later, they lost Bob’s wife, Jill.

In July, Jenny and Dave also posted about losing their long-time pet dog, Dolly, who had been in the family for over a decade.

Sharing her friend’s words of advice in the audio clip, Jenny said, “Being His means holding all of it, the miracles and the pain. And still raising our hands and saying, ‘I don’t understand this and I wanted a different ending to this chapter, but I can still trust that you are good… Despite the hard, God is always only good.”

TikTokers Matt Howard and Abby Howard Face Backlash for Leaving Toddlers in Cruise Ship Cabin

Matt Howard and Abby Howard are in mourning.

The TikTok couple—who are known for documenting their family life on the platform—revealed that they lost their third baby, a little girl, at 17 weeks.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we share about the loss of our baby girl born far too soon,” the duo wrote on their Sept. 28 Instagram post, which featured a photo of them holding hands while in the hospital. “At a routine pregnancy appointment, our doctor could not find a heartbeat. Shortly after, they sent us in for an ultrasound where the technician said words we will never forget, ‘I am so sorry, I do not have good news.’”

Matt and Abby, 27, shared that their daughter “had a genetic condition that took her life around 17 weeks gestation,” a tragic revelation they “never hoped” to hear.
