Sinclair to Resume Airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! After Pointless Nine-Day Suspension

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Sinclair says it will resume airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its local affiliate stations beginning Friday, ending a nine-day suspension of the show.

The conservative media group, which owns 38 local TV stations across the country, initially pulled Kimmel’s late-night show off the air last Wednesday following comments he made about the murder of Charlie Kirk. The action taken by Sinclair, along with fellow affiliate group Nexstar—widely believed to have been in response to pressure from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr—prompted ABC to temporarily suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

When Kimmel returned to the air this past Tuesday night, Sinclair still refused to air the show, demanding that Kimmel issue an apology and make “a meaningful personal donation” to both Kirk’s family and his political group, Turning Point USA. They also demanded “formal discussions” with ABC regarding the network’s “commitment to professionalism and accountability.”

While Kimmel was certainly contrite during his first monologue back, he never issued a full-throated apology for his comments, nor is there any evidence that he made a donation to Kirk’s family or Turning Point USA. And in its statement announcing Kimmel’s return on Friday, Sinclair admitted that its proposals suggested to ABC and Disney had not been adopted.

Related Video

Nevertheless, Sinclair has reversed course and says it will no longer preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! come Friday evening.

Sinclair’s statement in full:

“Our objective throughout this process has been to ensure that programming remains accurate and engaging for the widest possible audience. We take seriously our responsibility as local broadcasters to provide programming that serves the interests of our communities, while also honoring our obligations to air national network programming.

Over the last week, we have received thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and community leaders representing a wide range of perspectives. We have also witnessed troubling acts of violence, including the despicable incident of a shooting at an ABC affiliate station in Sacramento. These events underscore why responsible broadcasting matters and why respectful dialogue between differing voices remains so important.

In our ongoing and constructive discussions with ABC, Sinclair proposed measures to strengthen accountability, viewer feedback, and community dialogue, including a network-wide independent ombudsman. These proposals were suggested as collaborative efforts between the ABC affiliates and the ABC network. While ABC and Disney have not yet adopted these measures, and Sinclair respects their right to make those decisions under our network affiliate agreements, we believe such measures could strengthen trust and accountability.

Our decision to preempt this program was independent of any government interaction or influence. Free speech provides broadcasters with the right to exercise judgment as to the content on their local stations. While we understand that not everyone will agree with our decisions about programming, it is simply inconsistent to champion free speech while demanding that broadcasters air specific content.

As a company rooted in local stations, Sinclair remains committed to serving our communities with programming that reflects their priorities, earns their trust, and promotes constructive dialogue. We look forward to continuing to work with ABC to deliver content that serves a broad spectrum of our communities.”

The hosts are yet to really hit their straps this season and are still adapting to life without star striker Alexander Isak but will hope that Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over Bradford City in the Carabao Cup can help them kick on.

They will have to raise their game another level against the visitors, however, as Arsenal have been hugely impressive in the early weeks of the season.

Mikel Arteta’s side only earned a point against Man City last weekend but will take plenty of confidence from what was a dominant display at the Emirates.

‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Viewership TK After Suspension

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Just as Jimmy Kimmel jokingly predicted, his late-night show saw quite an audience boost upon his return to ABC Tuesday night after the network “indefinitely” preempted him last week.

Jimmy Kimmel Live drew 6.26M viewers on Tuesday night, per early live + same-day Nielsen data.

Consider that JKL averaged about 1.77M viewers in live + seven-day data in the second quarter of 2025, illustrating just how much the week-long debacle over Kimmel’s comments last week about Charlie Kirk’s shooter drew national interest. The early data also doesn’t include streaming, so the total audience for Tuesday’s episode will likely increase once all is said and done.

It’s also worth noting that, given Nexstar and Sinclair are still preempting Kimmel, the episode was not even available in many major markets representing about 23% of U.S. households.

Among adults 18-49, the episode earned a 0.87 rating, which is the highest for a regularly scheduled episode in more than 10 years.

Disney adds that, in addition to linear viewership, the opening monologue alone has garnered more than 26M views across YouTube and social platforms. Even this morning, just 12 hours after it aired, the monologue had already amassed more than 11M views, well on its way to becoming one of Kimmel’s most-watched monologues of all time.

On Wednesday, ABC indefinitely preempted Jimmy Kimmel Live! following a furor around Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s killer. The move came after FCC chairman Brendan Carr threatened ABC to “find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead” and said that the comedian’s comments were “some of the sickest conduct possible.” He also called on the local affiliates to take action as well.

On Monday Carr tried to deny that it was a threat to pull licenses of ABC stations, insisting that “did not happen in any way, shape or form.”

Hours after Carr’s initial comments, local station group Nexstar revealed that it would “preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future” as it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk.” It soon was followed by similar comments from rival station group Sinclair. Moments later, Disney made its own decision to pause the show.

Kimmel’s return Tuesday followed days of discussions between Disney and Kimmel as the noise around the suspension grew louder on both sides of the political aisle. Not only did Kimmel receive the support of his late-night peers, but celebrities from across the industry including Mark Ruffalo, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks spoke out against Disney’s decision.

Even some right-wing politicians such as Ted Cruz — the current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, the body that has oversight over the FCC — warned against the government curtailing free speech in response to the Kimmel situation.

His Monologue and More Live Updates

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is back on ABC following a six-day suspension. The talk show returned on Tuesday, September 23, after it was indefinitely suspended by the network over comments host Jimmy Kimmel made about Charlie Kirk.

Cities with ABC affiliate stations owned by Nexstar and Sinclair will continue to see the late-night show preempted for now, but everyone else across the country was seated as Kimmel returned with his first monologue in nearly a week.

Scroll down for live updates from Kimmel’s return to late-night television, and keep refreshing since we’ll be updating throughout the episode.

The show began with clips from various other media outlets discussing how highly-anticipated this show is, then cut to Kimmel and Guillermo dressed in silly costumes in their green room (they eventually decided they needed to change). Kimmel entered the stage to a massive round of applause and the crowd chanting his name before he began his monologue.

“I’m happy to be here tonight with you,” he said, after making a joke about preempting Celebrity Family Feud to be on the air. “I’m not sure who had a weirder 48 hours, me or the CEO of Tylenol. It’s been overwhelming. I’ve heard from a lot of people over the last six days. I’ve heard from all the people in the world over the last six days. Everyone I’ve ever met have reached out 10 or 11 times. The guy who fired me from my first radio job in Seattle, where we are not airing tonight, by the way, his name is Larry. In 1989 Larry tried to force me to do a bit called Jokes for Donuts, where people would call in and tell jokes for donuts, and I refused to do it and eventually Larry fired me and I had to move back in with my parents. Even he checked in. Thank you, Larry.”

He gave a special shout-out to his fellow talksshow hosts, including Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, Jay Leno, and many others, such as Howard Stern and Jay Leno. He noted that even late-night hosts from other countries reached out. “This country has become so authoritarian that even the Germans are like, ‘Come here!’”

Of course, he also gave a special message to his viewers who made sure their “voices were heard so mine could be heard.” Especially, though, he mentioned those who don’t share his beliefs, but stood up for his right to still be on the air, including Candace Owens and Ted Cruz. “I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but Ted Cruz is right,” Kimmel noted. “If Ted Cruz can’t speak freely, then he can’t cast spells on the Smurfs. Even though I don’t agree with many of those people on most subjects, some of the things they say make me want to throw up, it takes courage for them to speak out against this administration, and they did and they deserve credit for it. Telling your followers that your government cannot be allowed to control what we do.”

Kimmel then got emotional as he said, “You understand it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it. I posted a message on Instagram on the day he was killed asking compassion for his family, and I meant it. I still do. Nor did I mean to blame any specific group for the actions of a specific individual. That was actually the opposite of the point I was trying to make. For those who think I did point a finger, I get why you’re upset. If the situation were reversed, there’s a good chance I would’ve felt the same way.”

He continued, “I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone. This is a sick person who thinks violence is a solution, and it isn’t ever. Also, selfishly, I am a person who get a lot of threats. I get many ugly and scary threats against my life, my wife, my kids, my coworkers, because of what I choose to say. And I know those threats don’t come from the people on the right who I know and love. And I don’t want to make this about me. This show is not important. What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.”

Kimmel then spoke candidly about how it’s “not legal” and it’s “un-American” to force affiliates to take his show off the air. He specifically referenced FCC chair Brendan Carr’s comments about wanting to pull his show. “Brendan Carr is the most embarrassing car Republicans have embraced since this one,” he said, as a photo of a Tesla Cybertruck spray painted with Trump’s name showed on the screen.

Kimmel also pointed to past comments Carr made about free speech and shared an old clip of Donald Trump talking about how important it is for there to be free speech in this country. “That was also in 2022. How did that guy turn into this guy?” he continued, before showing a recent clip of Trump calling him a “wack job” and claiming he got “no ratings” for his show. Kimmel then smirked and added, “Well, I do tonight!”

“He did his best to cancel me. Instead, he forced millions of people to watch the show,” Kimmel joked. “That backfired bigly. He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now.”

He then joked, “Disney has asked me to read the following statement and I have agreed to do it. Here we go: To reactivate your Disney+ and Hulu account, open the Disney+ app on your smart TV or connected device.” The audience cracked up.

Kimmel made sure to thank Disney for bringing him back on the air, even though they “didn’t have to,” he noted. “I was not happy when they pulled me off the air,” he said. “I did not agree with that decision and I told them that. We talked it through and in the end, even though they didn’t have to, they really didn’t have to, this is a giant company, we have short attention spans, and I am a tiny part of the Disney corporation, but they welcomed me back on the air, and I thank them for that.”

He also told his viewers that they should support Seth Meyers, Fallon, and any other late-night hosts who Trump has threatened to pull off the air if they’re put in similar situations in the future.

Kimmel went on to list a lot of things that “most Americans support,” regardless of where they stand politically, and urged viewers to “stop letting politicians tell us what they want and tell them what we want.”

To conclude his monologue, Kimmel referenced Kirk’s widow Erika’s remarks at his funeral. “Erika Kirk forgave the man who shot her husband. That is an example we should follow,” Kimmel insisted. “If you believe in the teachings of Jesus as I do, there it was. That’s it. A selfless act of grace, forgiveness from a grieving widow, it touched me deeply. If there’s anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, I hope it can be that, and not this.”

Kimmel joked that Guillermo offered to sell his Labubus to raise money for him when they were out of a job. Guillermo then took the floor to praise Kimmel as a “great man and a great father.” He also told his boss, “I love you and I stand with you all the way, brother.”

In the second segment of the show, Kimmel said he had the chairman of the FCC on the phone, and it ended up being Robert DeNiro on a video call. “It seems like the FCC is using mob tactics to suppress free speech,” Kimmel wondered. “What the f**k did you say to me?” DeNiro, pretending to be the new chair of the FCC, retaliated. “Speech, it ain’t free no more. We’re charging by the word now.”

The two went back and forth in a hilarious bit, which ended with DeNiro pretending to take a call from the president and joking, “I gotta go. A couple of cases of Tylenol fell off a truck and I gotta figure out how to put autism in them.”

Kimmel was back to his regular self at this point, poking fun at Trump for having to walk up an escalator that broke during his visit to the United Nations. “When you think about uniting nations, no one does it better than Don,” Kimmel joked, cutting to a clip of Trump saying, “I’m really good at this stuff. These countries are going to hell.” He also cracked jokes about Melania Trump.

He once again referenced Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.‘s claims that pregnant women taking Tylenol causes autism in children. “Follow the advice of Donald Trump and you too can look liked a glazed ham with thrombosis,” he said. The audience cracked up as a montage of Trump saying, “Don’t take Tylenol,” dozens of times played.

The first guest of the night was Glen Powell. Kimmel apologized for dragging him “into the middle” of his mess. “I’m honored,” Powell confirmed. “I’m just so happy you’re back.”

More to come …

Massive Attack correct “outright lies” of reports on facial recognition at live shows

by jummy84 September 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Massive Attack have addressed reports regarding facial recognition at their live shows, denying that the technology was in use.

Last week, reports about the trip-hop icons using the technology at their shows began to circulate online, leading them to explain that the live effects at their shows – comprising a face-detection effect and a fictional, randomly assigned ‘database’ – are satirical.

In a statement titled ‘It Isn’t What It Isn’t”, shared on social media this evening, they began: “Last week, a number of platforms including ‘Somewhere.Media’, ‘Hidden’ and others ran stories relating to our live show & the apparent use of live facial recognition technology.

“Via the brainless duplication chambers of Al-generated IG accounts, the ‘story’ snowballed, & between entertainment platforms and Al clonethink, nobody and nothing bothered to factcheck. Inaccuracies and outright lies proliferated in tandem with likes & shares. ‘Somewhere Media’ went nowhere near any basic reporting standard, stating that show material was ‘pulled from public databases.’”

They explained that “no Massive Attack live show has ever recorded or stored personal data,” adding, “Only government departments, relevant authorities & approved contractors can access public databases in the UK, & doing so in multiple cities/countries would be impossible.”

Massive Attack continued by highlighting the use of public facial recognition in the UK, writing that the government are “overreaching almost all other western democracies with their use of public facial recognition … while there is no specific legislation regulating police use of these systems.”

The slideshow with their statement included then finishes with an image of their live show’s fake facial recognition server.

Their announcement comes days after they introduced Kneecap to the stage for their huge show at the OVO Wembley Arena, describing them as a band “who refused to be silenced for their solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

Massive Attack have been consistent in their support for Palestine, among myriad progressive causes, recently vowing to boycott Spotify in response to reports that the platform’s CEO Daniel Ek has made significant investments “in a company producing military munition drones and AI technology integrated into fighter aircraft.”

And speaking to NME in December 2024 ahead of their headline set at the Act 1.5 “climate action accelerator” event in Liverpool, frontman Robert Del Naja, or 3D, said: “When I look at modern history, most of the solutions I love the most that’ve created social change come from science and the arts – seldom have come from centres of political power or civic bodies. It comes from people who slice things in a different way.”

He added: “We’ve got to find ways of unification through storytelling – leading by example and bringing that together through the creative industries. You’re looking at trying to find a standardisation within our own behaviour that we voluntarily accept. Otherwise, you’re looking at it all having to be regulated. Then it’s about control of power and sovereignty of the self. And then you’re dealing straight into the middle of the cultural battle about self-sovereignty and the role of The State and taxation – the whole fucking Elon Musk gig.

“I mean, it’s all a big joke for those guys. Fiscal anarchy is great for them because they’ve got so much money to move around the world, but the rest of us are fucked. That sovereign self bullshit is the thing I hate the most. Because really we have to work together. The human race doesn’t work as a species of individuals. Not many species on the planet do. Maybe a snow leopard does? Fucking great. But how many of those are out there?”

Also in the interview, he said they had plans to release new music in 2025. “We do have some new music which we’ve been sitting on for four years… dispute at the label – that’s a different article altogether,” he explained.

“I hate sitting on stuff for too long because I’m the first person to get bored of it. I deliberately don’t play it for months so that I can maintain some enthusiasm for it. It’s good – I’m looking forward to it!”
