1. Diet

Dr. Sethi explains that what you eat can play a huge role in bloating. “The biggest culprits are lactose, fructose, fructans, sorbitol, and other carbohydrates that your gut does not fully absorb. Even healthy foods can ferment in the digestive tract and trigger symptoms if you are sensitive,” he says. He emphasises that it’s not just “junk” foods, sometimes foods considered healthy can also lead to gas and discomfort depending on an individual’s gut sensitivity.

2. IBS or Functional Dyspepsia

According to Dr. Sethi, conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or functional dyspepsia mean your gut is more sensitive than usual. “The movement of your intestines is disordered, which can lead to gas getting trapped, belly distention, and bloating,” he explains. He also points out that these issues are often linked to changes in gut bacteria, meaning your digestive system may react more strongly to foods or stress than usual.

3. Constipation

Slow-moving bowels can also be a major factor in bloating. Dr. Sethi says, “Even if you are going once a day, if your colon moves slowly, food sits longer, leading to more fermentation, gas buildup, and bloating.” He adds that constipation can make the gut overly sensitive, contributing to the same problems seen in IBS, including gas trapping, belly distention, and alterations in gut bacteria.

Cancer continues to be a major public health challenge in India, with cases steadily increasing across both urban and rural areas. Lifestyle changes, environmental factors, and early detection gaps are contributing to a growing cancer burden nationwide.

An August 20 study by the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) National Cancer Registry Programme, which analysed data from 43 population-based cancer registries across India between 2015 and 2019, sheds light on the regional patterns and trends of cancer incidences and mortalities. Bengaluru women among top for breast, cervical and oral cancer

According to the analysis, Bengaluru ranks among the top three cities for breast cancer and women here are also in the top 10 for cervical and oral cancer incidences. Among men, lung cancer emerges as the most frequently diagnosed in southern India and metropolitan cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, and Thiruvananthapuram.

Nationally, India reported an estimated 15.62 lakh cancer cases in 2024, with over 8.74 lakh deaths, marking an increase from 14.6 lakh cases in 2022. In Bengaluru, the incidence of cancer among women is around 140 per 100,000, while men report approximately 125 per 100,000, placing the city sixth in female cancer incidences nationwide.

Regional disparities and common cancer types

The study also highlighted regional disparities: cities in the Northeast, including Aizawl, East Khasi Hills, and Kamrup Urban, reported the highest cancer incidence rates, with oesophageal cancer being most prevalent. Other high-burden regions include Kerala and Kashmir.

Among males, oral, lung, and prostate cancers are most common, while among females, breast and cervical cancers top the list. Oral cancer showed significant increases in several registries, with Ahmedabad recording the steepest rise.

“The study highlights the increasing cancer burden and the need for targeted strategies to improve prevention, early detection, and care across India,” the researchers noted in JAMA Network Open.

India currently ranks second in Asia and third globally in cancer cases, with a lifetime risk of 11%. The Global Cancer Observatory projects that by 2045, the number of new cancer cases in India could rise to approximately 25 lakh annually.

Zach Top: Ain’t in It for My Health Album Review

The idea behind Alan Jackson’s 2008 hit “Good Time” is pretty simple: work sucks, thank God it’s Friday, let’s go shut down a honky tonk. Seventeen years later, Zach Top has the same impulse. On “Country Boy Blues,” he polishes his truck, puts on his Sunday best, and hits the town—Lower Broadway in Nashville. But Top, unlike Jackson, ends the night in solemn disbelief: He walks through Music City’s epicenter without hearing a single country tune.

I imagine the strip was full of rap, EDM, and cover bands playing “Mr. Brightside.” While country music is reaching new heights commercially, the age-old debate about real country music is as heated as ever. (See: mudslinger Gavin Adcock’s recent beef with outlaw torchbearer Charley Crockett.) For Zach Top, a young traditionalist inspired by smooth stars of the 1990s like George Strait and Randy Travis, it seems that conversations around the genre’s purity aren’t so much angering as they are befuddling. Today’s country regularly strays from its roots to incorporate production from other genres, yet there isn’t a hint of modernity in Top’s sound. His dedication to a bygone era of country radio serves as a form of subtle resistance, and his emergence as a breakout star tells another story: Country fans like country music. Who would’ve thought?

His new album, Ain’t In It for My Health, is good, clean country fun, full of clear-eyed comedic writing and tight arrangements. There’s a sweetness in its simplicity: No mind-bending metaphors to be found, just crisp verses that fit smack in the middle of the beer-drinking, heart-aching, forgive-me-for-my-ramblin’-ways Venn diagram. In these songs, Top professes his first love (“Guitar”), giddily does his best Jimmy Buffet impression (“Flip Flop”), takes his girlfriend to his favorite secluded spot (“I Know a Place”), and knocks back a few too many shots of whiskey (“Honky Tonk Till It Hurts”).

Truthfully, there’s not much delineation from his last album, 2024’s Cold Beer & Country Music—which featured a song called “Sounds Like the Radio”—but there doesn’t need to be. He’s not trying to reinvent the wheel; quite the opposite. While the added emphasis on pianos and vocal harmonies makes this album’s production more elaborate, Top, with the help of producer Carson Chamberlain (a former bandleader for Keith Whitley), knows what he’s doing. He came up in the bluegrass scene, joining a family band at age 7, which helps explain his technical proficiency and consistency as a songwriter. This isn’t an album of highs and lows—Top is too grounded and set in his sound to fluctuate. It’s more of a relaxing tube ride down a creek.

To his credit, certain moments on the record demonstrate real growth as a songwriter. “South of Sanity” is particularly touching, as Top grapples with the sacrifices that come with success: “I’m somewhere outside of Missoula/They just called my name from the stage/When we hung up she was talkin’ leavin’/Now how am I supposed to sing and play?” Then there’s the fiddle-led “Livin’ a Lie”—a nod to his biggest hit to date, “I Never Lie”—where he admits that his tendency to laugh things off conceals a deep displeasure in life.

There is nothing surprising about Ain’t In It for My Health: no crossover features, drum machines, or overarching statements about what the genre is or shouldn’t be. It’s nice to have an emerging star who keeps his head down and honors the strain of country music he first fell in love with. More important, it’s exactly the type of music Zach Top wishes he’d heard on that disappointing Friday night in Nashville. One can only hope they have the sense to play it.

ChatGPT, the AI (artificial intelligence) chatbot, has become a go-to for many seeking answers to their problems, be it personal or professional. However, recently, it has been piloted to draft responses to patient questions, too, but their credibility is still up for debate.

However, in a unique case, a patient, who was being misdiagnosed by medical professionals, got his life back on track after ChatGPT helped him know the real cause behind his ailments.

Misdiagnosed by doctors, ChatGPT helps a Reddit user

In a post shared on June 14, 2025, on the subreddit r/HPylori – titled ‘Misdiagnosed by doctors for months, ChatGPT solved it in minutes’ –, a user revealed how the AI chatbot helped him recover from H. Pylori, or Helicobacter pylori, a type of bacteria that infects the stomach.

Sharing their predicament, the Reddit user revealed that they had stomach problems for over a year, feeling full too quickly after a meal, and sometimes had chest pressure, bloating, and mild pain after eating. “I did an endoscopy and even a barium x-ray. One doctor said it might be gastroparesis. Another thought it was achalasia. But none of them tested for H. pylori. They all said it didn’t seem necessary,” the user added.

However, when there seemed to be no end to their ailments, they eventually turned to ChatGPT out of desperation. “It suggested H. pylori could still be involved. I decided to get tested privately. The result came back positive. (Positive 220),” the Reddit user wrote.

Once the problem was diagnosed, the Reddit user started triple therapy, and “I already feel better than I have in months. It’s crazy that something so basic was missed. I feel like I finally have a shot at getting my life back.”

How did the internet react?

Reddit users were flabbergasted by the lack of knowledge of the doctors who were doing the treatment. One user commented, “It’s so crazy to me that some doctors are so stupid they miss maybe the most common infection on that planet that up to 50 percent of people across the globe will get.”

Someone wrote, “They are not stupid; they have to follow health insurance requirements. You have to tell all the symptoms possible with h pylori. The doctor I know said that without stomach pain, they will not do the H. pylori test.”

Another commented under the post, “It’s not that they are stupid. Their ego is so big that they don’t care to have curiosity about their patients; they look at you and believe that they already know your problems and solutions.”

What is H. Pylori?

Per the Johns Hopkins Medicine organisation, H. Pylori can damage the tissue in your stomach and the first part of your small intestine (the duodenum), causing pain and inflammation. Per the Cleveland Clinic, the bacteria can also cause peptic ulcers and gastritis.

Dr Ritu Choudhary, Lead Consultant, Obs and Gyn, Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Apollo Cradle and Children’s Hospital, Bangalore-Electronic City, told HT Lifestyle that safety is essential, from maintaining hydration to eating clean foods. She said, “With some pro-activeness in choosing the right mode of transport, keeping oneself hydrated, eating clean food, and prioritising safety, expectant mothers can ensure a safe and pleasant journey in monsoons. ” Further, she cautioned that if the conditions worsen, then visit a doctor.

Dr Ritu Choudhary shared eight tips, including essentials ranging from what types of clothes to wear to the preferred seat type on transport:

1. Ask a doctor first

  • Always consult the gynaecologist before arranging any travel, especially during the first or third trimester of pregnancy.
  • Travel may be prohibited during high-risk pregnancy or at certain stages, depending on individual health conditions.
  • Always carry reports and documents of medical history and emergency contact numbers.

2. Selecting proper transportation

  • Trains and private vehicles are usually more comfortable and safer than buses or two-wheelers during the monsoon; thus, always prefer those if possible.
  • When travelling via flight, always check the airline policies for pregnant women and avoid air travel after 36 weeks of pregnancy.

3. Check the weather and road conditions

  • Always check the weather before and look at a weather app or website to get a clearer view of whether to venture out.
  • Avoid going out when it is pouring rain, or there are storms or other warnings.
  • Long road trips should be further considered by the prospect of wet roads, water pooling, and poor visibility.

  • The risk of infections like UTIs and gastroenteritis is greater during the monsoon.

  • Minimise the use of public toilets. Drink clean potable water.

6. Follow a balanced diet

  • Pregnancy cravings are normal, but it’s advisable to avoid street food during the monsoon.
  • Eating fruits, salads, that are already cut and food that is left uncovered can be risky.
  • Oily, spicy, or very salty foods could also trigger heartburn or indigestion.
  • Consume freshly cooked food only prepared under hygienic conditions.

7. Ensure protection from mosquitoes

  • Dengue and malaria peak during the monsoon season so dress in long-sleeved shirts and apply pregnancy-safe insect repellents.
  • Stay away from stagnant water and sleep under a mosquito net on your travels

8. Take breaks during travel

  • Extended travel can cause leg cramps, back pain, or fatigue. Remember to take regular breaks from your travels to move and stretch.
  • If you are travelling by car, be sure to stop every 1.5–2 hours.
  • When booking a train ticket, it is best to book a lower berth for the convenience and safety of getting on and off the train.

Dermatologist shares 10 tips to protect skin from sweat, pollution and pimples: ‘Sunscreen 365 days a year’ | Health

Weather changes and pollution can take a serious toll on your skin, triggering pimples, acne, and flare-ups. The good news? With the right protection strategies, you can shield your skin from pollutants, sweat, and breakouts effectively. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Ameesha Mahajan, cosmetic dermatologist and founder, Eden Skin Clinic shared a few tips to protect your skin daily. 1. Face cleansing twice a day

Cleanser used should be gentle and have a balanced pH. Use it twice a day and if you sweat profusely, such as after workouts. After sweating or exposure to environmental pollutants, cleansing must remove the bacteria.

2. Regular and gentle skin exfoliation

Skin exfoliation should be practiced with gentle exfoliants once or twice a week to unclog the skin pores. Harsh scrubs are a big no as they damage the skin’s protective barrier and cause more acne flare ups.

3. Anti-pollution care

Use an antioxidant loaded serum on your face as it helps to fight free radicals such as vitamin C and niacinamide. These ingredients are helpful to fight premature aging and dull skin.

4. Daily skin moisturisation, irrespective of skin type

Even oily skin needs hydration. Choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser. Moisturisers protect the skin barrier, keeping dirt and pollutants from penetrating.

5. Sunscreen 365 days a year

6. Managing stress

Pat sweat off instead of rubbing to prevent irritation and clogged pores. Use breathable fabrics and avoid heavy creams that trap sweat.

7. Refrain from touching face with dirty hands

Hands carry bacteria and pollutants. Touching your face increases the risk of pimples. Keep phones, masks, and glasses clean to prevent skin transfer.

8. Lifestyle modifications

Stay hydrated to flush out toxins. Include a diet rich in antioxidants, fruits, and vegetables to support skin health. Get 7–8 hours of sleep to allow skin repair overnight.

9. Acne management

On the acne spots, consider applying salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or niacinamide based serums or other skincare products. 10. Regular skin check-ins

See the changes your skin shows with changing weather or after sweating. Shift your skincare products as per the season and consult a dermatologist in case of repeated acne flare-ups.

A man’s decision to trust ChatGPT over going to the doctor to get a proper diagnosis has cost him his life. Warren Tierney, a 37-year-old man from Killarney, County Kerry, in Ireland, felt unwell earlier this year. He depended on using ChatGPT, the AI software, in his downtime to discuss his symptoms. However, when things got serious, he went to the emergency department, where he was diagnosed with stage-four throat cancer.

ChatGPT convinces a man it’s not cancer, turns out it was!

According to a report by The Mirror, the AI chatbot reassured him that cancer was highly unlikely, but doctors have since confirmed he has adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus. Earlier this year, Warren was unable to swallow fluids and felt unwell. However, instead of visiting his physician, he concentrated on taking care of his kids and wife.

Warren turned to ChatGPT for advice. When he shared his symptoms, the AI chatbot told him, “Nothing you’ve described strongly points to cancer”. However, after a while, when his symptoms worsened, he again sought advice from the AI software. “I will walk with you through every result that comes. If this is cancer — we’ll face it. If it’s not — we’ll breathe again,” it said.

However, a few days ago, his symptoms didn’t seem to be improving, and a quick checkup by the doctors when he admitted himself to the emergency department found that he had a stage-four adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus, a cancer with an average five-year survival rate of just five to 10 percent.

‘It cost me a couple of months…’

Warren now advocates for people not to rely on AI too much. He told The Mirror, “I think it ended up really being a real problem, because ChatGPT probably delayed me getting serious attention. The AI model is trying to appeal to what you want it to say in order to keep you engaged.”

He added, “I know that probably cost me a couple of months. And that’s where we have to be super careful when using AI. If we are using it as an intermediary to say we’re not feeling great, then we need to be aware. I’m a living example of it now, and I’m in big trouble because I may have relied on it too much.”

Meanwhile, ChatGPT has responded to the man’s case by saying that the software is “not intended for use in the treatment of any health condition, and is not a substitute for professional advice.”
