“There’s a fine line between love and hate. A very fine line.” Dark Star Pictures has unveiled the official US trailer for the French crime comedy film called Plastic Guns, which originally premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival last year in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar there. It’s finally getting released in the US this year, after already opening in French cinemas more than a year ago. Inspired by two controversial cases in French criminal history, this searing tragi-comedy exposes the abuses the police can commit in their pursuit of notorious criminals. A Frenchman traveling in Denmark is arrested, accused of being a multiple murderer on the run named Paul Bernardin. Although he maintains his innocence, two rookie detectives are convinced that he’s guilty. Meanwhile, in Argentina, another Frenchman celebrates his wedding; he is the same age and has a very mysterious past. The film stars Delphine Baril, Charlotte Laemmel, Laurent Stocker, Gaëtan Peau, and Anthony Paliotti. One review states: “Plastic Guns is one of those movies that require complicity, giving into delirium and not asking for too much coherence, plausibility, or depth.” Ha… If you’re a fan of oddball, peculiar, off-beat French comedies – this is a good one to seek out and enjoy.

Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Jean-Christophe Meurisse’s film Plastic Guns, from YouTube:

Michel Uzès (Gaëtan Peau), a man in his forties, is arrested during his trip to Denmark. He is suspected by the police to be Paul Bernardin, a wanted murderer accused of killing his wife and three children a few years ago. While Uzès maintains that he is innocent, two amateur detectives – Léa and Christine, set out to conduct their own investigation. They know the whole affair inside out and feel certain that he is the wanted murderer. Meanwhile, in Argentina, a Frenchman in his forties with a mysterious past celebrates his wedding with his pretty, young fiancée… Plastic Guns, originally known as Les Pistolets en Plastique in French, is directed by French genre filmmaker Jean-Christophe Meurisse, director of the films One of Us, Apnée, and Bloody Oranges previously. The screenplay is written by Jean-Christophe Meurisse, collab with Amélie Philippe. Produced by Marine Bergere, Antoine Blesson, Romain Daubeach, Nicolas Descalles. This initially premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight last year. Dark Star Pics will debut Meurisse’s Plastic Guns in select US theaters + on VOD this fall. Fascinating Doc Film ‘Pistachio Wars’ Trailer About California’s Water

“Why does no one talk about it?” Watermelon Pics is releasing this fascinating, upsetting new documentary film titled Pistachio Wars, a remarkable true story about the billionaires behind the California pistachio farms. Made by investigative journalists who spent years looking into the truth behind what’s going on. They follow a trickle of information upstream, leading to disgusting revelations about California’s water and the people hoarding it to build their own agricultural empire. As Los Angeles burns, everyone wants to know… why do cities in California often seem to constantly go up in flames? Journalist Yasha Levine and filmmaker Rowan Wernham take a road trip into the dark heart of the California Dream. They look at the system and the people that have allowed unchecked development to rage across the state, destroying the environment and creating mega-cities and mega-farms. Right at the center of their story is Stewart & Lynda Resnick. They’re billionaires who live in Beverly Hills. And they have a monopoly on the pistachio trade. Of course they do! It’s always some greedy bastards like this ruining everything just to hold onto their piles of money. I wish everyone could enjoy delicious, health pistachios without this kind of terrible environmental damage.

Official trailer for Yasha Levine & Rowan Wernham’s doc film Pistachio Wars, direct from YouTube:

“Plays like a Chinatown for the age of global warming — complete with mystery, political corruption and at the center of it, the question we’ve confronted since civilization began: who gets the water?” –Filmmaker Adam McKay

Pistachio Wars Doc Poster

Journalist Yasha Levine follows a lead about a water sale between a farmer and a small desert town—and discovers a hidden side to California’s healthy snack industry. At the very center of the story are a couple named Stewart & Lynda Resnick. They’re billionaires. They live in the flashiest mansion in Beverly Hills and have a monopoly on the pistachio trade. They’ve taken control of California’s water—draining rivers, building plantations in the middle of a desert, leaving a trail of environmental collapse. Towns ravaged by drought, farms built on oil fields, mass extinction, a water heist straight from the plot of Chinatown, and… war with Iran? It’s a road trip into the dark heart of the American Dream. Pistachio Wars is co-directed by journalists / filmmakers Yasha Levine and Rowan Wernham, both making their feature directorial debut. Produced by Rowan Wernham; executive produced by Thierry Jutel and Adam McKay. This initially premiered at the 2024 Doc Edge Festival in NZ last year. Watermelon Pictures has debuted Pistachio Wars direct-to-VOD on October 7th, 2025 this fall. It’s available to watch now – head to the film’s official site.

“All you have to fight your detractors is the art of Kabuki.” GKids has unveiled the official US trailer for an acclaimed Japanese film titled Kokuho, made by filmmaker Sang-il Lee. The title Kokuho means “national treasure” and is inspired by a true story. This first premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in Directors’ Fortnight, and it next plays at AFI Fest in LA this fall before opening in limited US theaters in November. Previously announced as Japan’s entry for Best International Feature at the Academy Awards, the smash-hit live action feature is directed by Sang-il Lee (of “Pachinko” Season 2, Hula Girls, Rage), and stars Ryo Yoshizawa, Ryusei Yokohama, and Ken Watanabe. The film marks a breakthrough performance for lead actor Ryo Yoshizawa, who trained 18 months in the art and history of Kabuki theater, to embody the role of Kikuo, an actor pursuing greatness at all costs, in a story of glory and heartbreak that spans decades. In post-war Japan’s economic boom, gangster family-born Kikuo finds himself adopted by a kabuki actor. Despite life’s challenges, he develops into a gifted performer. Featuring awe-inspiring scope and beauty, it’s a monument to the artists who would sacrifice everything in the pursuit of the ultimate performance. Enjoy.

Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Sang-il Lee’s film Kokuho, direct from GKids’ YouTube:

This Is When Ram Charan Would Commence Director Sukumar’s Film

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

The shooting of Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi is progressing briskly. While the unit commenced a new schedule in Pune, filming scenes on Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, we have got an interesting scoop. Apparently, the RRR star is likely to commence shooting for his next film, under director Sukumar, from February. With Peddi, scheduled to release on March 27, 2026, Charan is likely to commence shooting for the Sukumar directorial just before a month.

Sukumar’s film delayed

When the film (Peddi) was launched in March last year, the idea was to wrap up by mid-2025 so that it gives enough time for Ram Charan to take a breather and prepare for Sukumar’s film. But Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, has been delayed due to production snags and logistic issues. This in turn further delayed Sukumar’s film. Charan spent more than three years on Game Changer (2025) and the result too was poor. On the other hand, Charan’s fans too wanted to see their favourite star in action on screen at least once every year. It was then the actor took a decision not to spend too much time on one film.

Sukumar director

A source in the know informs, “Peddi shooting will be wrapped up by the year-end or January. Ram Charan wants to give enough time for post-production works and movie promotions. Soon, he will turn his focus to Sukumar’s film which is likely to go on floors in February.” Ram Charan and Sukumar earlier collaborated for Rangasthalam (2018). The rustic thriller went on to become the biggest blockbuster in the actor’s career. The actor-director wanted to recreate the magic in their second collaboration. Buzz is that Mythri Movies that earlier bankrolled films like Pushpa series and Rangasthalam are likely to produce the new film. Meanwhile, Sukumar is working on the script and will keep it ready by the time the film goes on floors.

Rajamouli to Lock This Title for Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Film?

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Rajamouli’s upcoming film SSMB29 (working title) is in the news again. With fresh speculation about the film’s title doing the rounds, the buzz surrounding the action adventure refuses to die down. According to the reports, Rajamouli is considering Varanasi as the title for the Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas-starrer.

Story has Ramayana connection

While the film’s shooting is progressing briskly, there have been reports about Rajamouli considering locking Varanasi as the film’s title. We have earlier reported that SSMB29 has a Ramayana connection, and the story also traverses across African nations. Adding to the buzz, Rajamouli has recreated the Varanasi set in Ramoji Film City. The set has reportedly cost around Rs 50 crore, and according to the reports, the set is not just a prop but given its magnificence and arc, it is a character in the film. Moreover, Mahesh Babu’s role carries shades of Lord Rama prompting Rajamouli to root for the title Varanasi.

“The title Varanasi is still under consideration, and the social media is already going crazy – it indicates the craze of the project,” says an exhibitor, adding that the project will have the widest release ever for an Indian film. Vijayendra Prasad (Rajamouli’s father) is reportedly inspired by the writings of author Addison Smith and wrote a brand-new version of what he envisioned.

Priyanka Chopra varanasi

Title reveals in November

Rajamouli had earlier revealed that the title and glimpse of the film would be unveiled in November. And speculations are rife that Hollywood director James Cameron would visit India to promote Avatar: Fire And Ash and potentially unveil the first look of Mahesh Babu’s film. Cameron is a noted admirer of Rajamouli’s films like RRR and Baahubali franchise. During RRR’s Oscar Award pre-show, Cameron lauded Rajamouli’s filmmaking as ‘spectacular’ and ‘muscular.’ He was particularly impressed by RRR’s ability to showcase Indian cinema on a global stage.

The Moment is directed by Aidan Zamiri, who is making his feature debut after previously working with Charli xcx on such videos as “Guess” and “360” and helping steer the overall look of her BRAT campaign. Charli XCX’s new A24 film ‘The Moment’ shares new teaser clip

by jummy84 October 9, 2025

The first teaser for Charli XCX’s upcoming new A24 film teaser, The Moment, has been shared today (October 9). Check it out below.

  • READ MORE: Charli XCX – ‘Brat’ review: pop pioneer fully embraces the dancefloor

Back in August, Charli seemingly closed the door on her ‘Brat’ era while also teasing her appearance in the upcoming new A24 film.

Now, a new teaser of the film has been shared which was posted alongside the caption, ‘based on an original idea by Charli XCX’. The music for the project has been made by Charli’s long term producer, A.G. Cook.

Written by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes, Charli star in the film, which, as per the official synopsis, will follow “a rising pop star navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut.”

The teaser also revealed more of the cast list, which includes Kylie Jenner and Rachel Sennett as well as Rish Shah, who appeared in Ms. Marvel, Isaac Cole Powell, who starred in Armando Iannucci’s HBO series The Franchise, Kate Berlant, who starred alongside Nicolas Cage in 2023 movie Dream Scenario and Stath Lets Flats’ Jamie Demetriou.

Previously-announced cast members include Alexander Skarsgård (Succession), Rosanna Arquette and Trew Mullen (Blink Twice).

In the comments of the teaser’s post on Instagram, director and co-writer of the project Aidan Zamiri, also hinted that the film would follow an unusual structure, writing: “Just checking – a movie is just like a really long video right? or is more like a blog post with pictures?”

You can watch the teaser, which features a re-mix of Icona Pop’s ‘I Don’t Care’, which Charli featured on in 2012, below:

In other news, Charli XCX recently shared studio footage, as her collaborator revealed she’s working on a “really different and fresh” new album.

Following its release last year, ‘Brat’ quickly evolved into a cultural phenomenon, with the concept of ‘Brat’ summer even working its way into Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign.

Last week (October 5), Charli took to X to share a five-second clip from the studio. The audio features some horror soundtrack-esque strings building to a sharp crescendo before coming to a sudden halt.

It’s not clear if this is for the album, but the clip does come after Finn Keane, a producer who worked on ‘Brat’, gave an update on the record’s progress last Monday (September 29). Speaking to Music News at the BMI London Awards, he said: “We’re kinda deep in it now, and I think it’s gonna be really amazing… It feels really different and fresh at the moment.”

Back in May, Charli hinted that she’s expecting her next album to go in a completely different direction, which could result in a “flop”, saying: “You can never really do the same thing twice and my next record will probably be a flop which I’m down for to be honest.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve been told about what her next album could look like. In February, her producers A.G. Cook, Finn Keane and George Daniel – who is also Charli’s husband – teased that the follow-up is shaping up to be “anti-Brat”: “Some of the conversations we’re having and music we’ve been playing around with the last couple of months have been completely the opposite.”

‘Brat’ was named as the Album of the Year by NME, and awarded a four-star review that read: “It all paints a picture of who XCX is in 2024. Growing pains, grief and aching doubts come alongside self-confidence, celebration and the knowledge of the place XCX holds in the musical landscape – indeed, she kicks off ‘360’ with the knowing: “I went my own way and I made it / I’m your favourite reference baby”.

The subsequent remix album, ‘Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat‘, received five stars from NME, with Aneesa Ahmed writing: “In some ways, ‘Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat’ is a home run for its creator, letting her finish the game on her own terms.

“She has perfected the art of remixing, keeping the songs moving by giving them a brand new lease of life rather than letting them exist statically in their original form.”

Charli has provided the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights and, outside of music, has taken on various acting projects lately. She’s starring in 100 Nights Of Hero, adapted from a graphic novel by Isabel Greenberg, the adventure-comedy Sacrifice alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans, Pete Ohs’ Erupcja, and the upcoming erotic thriller I Want Your Sex alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman.

In other news, a new Taylor Swift track, ‘Actually Romantic’, is widely rumoured to be a diss track directed at Charli.

Buzz: Tabu to Share Screen With Nagarjuna Akkineni for His 100th Film?

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Nagarjuna Akkineni’s 100th film is the hottest topic in the tinsel town. When everyone was waiting for a grand announcement to be made, the project went on floors silently, much to the fans’ surprise. And now, there’s another interesting buzz that’s doing the rounds about the most-anticipated project. According to industry sources, actress Tabu is on board for the milestone film.

Directed by Ra Karthik, Nagarjuna’s 100th film has already commenced shooting in Hyderabad. But the leading lady has always been a constant source of speculation. Although none of the names popped up, the filmmakers have been constantly on the lookout. Apparently, it was the director who suggested Tabu’s name. When he pitched it to Nag, the actor too endorsed it. Tabu is generally very selective in choosing her characters and takes up only if she finds it to be substantial. Since, the leading lady in Nagarjuna’s 100th film isn’t a quintessential running around the trees, but a meaty role, the director wanted to bring Tabu on board. And for now, rumour mongers had it saying that Tabu has joined the film’s cast. Interestingly, the project would be Tabu’s second film as she had recently signed Vijay Sethupathi’s film under director Puri Jagannadh.

Nagarjuna Akkineni

Nagarjuna and Tabu magic

Nagarjuna and Tabu have been paired in films like Ninne Pelladutha (1996) and Aavida Maa Aavide (1998). While the former was a blockbuster and an industry hit, the latter was an average fare. But what’s common between the two films was Nag and Tabu’s sizzling onscreen chemistry which the audiences appreciated. And Ra Karthik wanted to recreate their magic for Nag’s milestone film. And contrary to their earlier films, Tabu won’t play Nag’s love interest in the film, but she’ll be seen in a significant role. And Nagarjuna, apart from headlining the film, is also producing the film.

Liv Ullmann to Receive Career Award From European Film Academy

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Liv Ullmann will be honored during the upcoming European Film Awards with a career award celebrating her body of work as an actress, director and screenwriter.

Ullmann has been an international star since Ingmar Bergman’s 1966 arthouse hit “Persona.” Indeed, she is best-known for her collaborations with Bergman, acting in 10 of his films and directing two of his screenplays. Bergman was also the father of her daughter, author Lin Ullmann.

Ullmann is also known for her work with Swedish director Jan Troell in “The New Land” (1972) and “The Emigrants,” for which she was nominated for an Oscar, and with Italy’s Mauro Bolognini in “Farewell Moscow,” for which she won a David di Donatello award.

Ullmann’s first film as a director was ” Sofie” (1992), about the life of a Jewish woman in Copenhagen from 1886 to 1907, starring Karen-Lise Mynster, Erland Josephson and Ghita Nørby. That drama was followed by an adaptation of Nobel laureate Sigrid Undset’s great historical epic “Kristin Lavransdatter” (1995) set in 14th-century Norway, and “Private Confessions” (1996), written by Bergman and starring Pernilla August and Max von Sydow. Her film “Faithless” (2000), starring Lena Endre and Erland Josephson, premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival and her most recent directorial effort is “Miss Julie” with Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain.

“Liv Ullmann has helped to shape our understanding of European film,” the European Film Academy said in a statement.

The 38th edition of the European Film Awards will take place on Jan. 17, 2026, in Athens.
