“This has been shambles after shambles.” Vertigo Releasing in the UK has debuted the full official trailer for a film titled Saipan, ready for release in January in the UK. This Irish film made by filmmakers Lisa Barros D’Sa & Glenn Leyburn tells a very Irish story about an epic sports rivalry back in 2002. Not everyone will be so familiar this story over the in US, but the film still looks like a worthwhile watch anyway. On the eve of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the Irish soccer/football team captain Roy Keane forfeits his place in the squad at the team’s base in Saipan, after a heated disagreement with the Irish manager Mick McCarthy. This is the thrilling story of their infamous confrontation and what happened next. The upcoming movie stars Éanna Hardwicke as Roy and Steve Coogan as Mick, with Alice Lowe, Jamie Beamish, Alex Murphy, and Harriet Cains. This looks damn good! Reminds me of Next Goal Wins, but much more serious and with way more creativity & ingenuity in the filmmaking. Some very cool shots in here. A little rivalry representing so many other issues. Yep I really want to watch this even though I don’t know much about this rivalry at all.

Here’s the official trailer for Lisa Barros D’Sa & Glenn Leyburn’s film Saipan, from Vertigo’s YouTube:

You can rewatch the teaser trailer for this Saipan football rivalry film right here for the first look again.

“Choose your side.” 🇮🇪 The thrilling story of the infamous confrontation between iconic Republic of Ireland football captain Roy Keane (Éanna Hardwicke) and his national team manager Mick McCarthy (Steve Coogan) during the Irish team’s preparations for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The intense rivalry between these two personalities transcended the game, gripping an entire nation in addition to the sporting world as a whole. On the surface, the feud was all about standards, but deep down it was an incredible story of two men whose rivalry and contempt surpassed the sport they loved. This is the definitive account of one of the most fractious falling-outs in the history of sport. Saipan is co-directed by Irish filmmaking duo Lisa Barros D’Sa & Glenn Leyburn, directors of the films Cherrybomb, Good Vibrations, and Ordinary Love previously, plus episodes of the series “Obsession”. The screenplay is written by Paul Fraser. Produced by Trevor Birney, Oliver Butler, Macdara Kelleher, John Keville. Vertigo Releasing will debut Saipan in Ireland first starting on January 1st, 2026 and also in UK cinemas on January 23rd early next year. Look good?

Dude box office collection day 2: Ranganathan, Mamitha Baiju film witnesses slight dip, collects over ₹7 crore

Dude box office collection day 2: Director Keerthiswaran’s debut film Dude, starring Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles, released in theatres this Friday. After enjoying a strong opening, the film witnessed a slight dip in its box office collections on the second day.

Dude box office collection day 2: The film is directed by Keerthiswaran.

Dude box office collection

According to the trade website Sacnilk, the film registered business of ₹7.66 crore on day two, taking the total to ₹17.41 crore. There was a slight dip from the opening day numbers; however, the film is expected to pick up momentum over the weekend amid the Diwali festivities.

When it comes to occupancy, Dude had an overall 51.18 per cent occupancy in Tamil on Saturday.

The film opened at ₹9.75 crore (Tamil ₹6.5 crore and Telugu ₹3.25 crore) on Friday. After witnessing a strong start, Dude has already surpassed the opening of Pradeep Ranganathan’s Love Today, which had collected ₹2.45 crore, and also overtaken his previous film Dragon, which opened at ₹6.5 crore.

On the other hand, Mamitha’s Premalu opened with ₹90 lakh, with both films expected to see growth in collections depending on word of mouth. Dude earned ₹3.89 crore from advance bookings.

The Tamil romantic comedy saw mixed reactions on social media after its release. While some people praised the film’s youthful energy and performances, others felt it failed to maintain its charm beyond the first half.

About Dude

Dude is directed by Keerthiswaran and stars Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles, alongside Sarathkumar, Sai Abhyankkar, and Hridhu Haroon in supporting parts. Billed as a coming-of-age rom-com for the digital generation, the film follows a spirited youngster navigating love, friendship, and self-discovery in modern-day Chennai. With Sai Abhyankkar’s music and a youth-centric premise, Dude tries to capture the essence of Gen-Z romance.

As per Hindustan Times review, “The drawback, Dude suffers from, is when the first half quickly unpacks everything there is to be, and you wonder what other curveballs are left to tackle. Without giving much away, the lead characters confront a very timely and real-world issue that has been addressed differently in other films. And while Keerthiswaran eventually finds a way to tackle it, the lead-up to it gets repetitive and begins to feel like a pile-on after a while. He excels at comedy but struggles with emotion, which can sometimes border on melodrama. The final twist of the film, too, doesn’t land as intended.”

Teyana Taylor & Leonardo DiCaprio’s Film ‘One Battle After Another’ Faces Massive $100 Million Box Office Loss Despite Critical Praise

Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor’s new film “One Battle After Another” is being hailed by viewers but it’s struggling to make its money back.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the Warner Bros. drama reportedly cost around $130 million to produce and another $70 million to promote. So far, it’s earned about $140 million worldwide, falling short of what’s needed to turn a profit.

“These prestige-type movies have failed to create a sense of FOMO among audiences,” says Fandango box office analyst Shawn Robbins in a statement to Variety. Warner Bros. pushed back on reports of a $100 million loss, saying, “Films across the studio’s slate, including ‘One Battle After Another,’ have achieved financial reward in 2025 with more than $4 billion earned to date.”

Despite the numbers, “One Battle After Another” is generating major Oscar buzz for its emotional storytelling and standout performances by DiCaprio and Taylor.

How To Survive A Warzone’ Film

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

The BBC will be forced to broadcast a statement live on television after UK media regulator Ofcom ruled that Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone was “materially misleading.”

The BBC has already acknowledged that it was a serious editorial failing that the documentary, which premiered on February 17, was narrated by the child of a Hamas minister, without this fact being declared to audiences. Now Ofcom has determined that it broke UK broadcasting rules.

In a ruling on Friday, the regulator concluded: “Trust is at the heart of the relationship between a broadcaster and its audience, particularly for a public service broadcaster such as the BBC. This failing had the potential to erode the significantly high levels of trust that audiences would have placed in a BBC factual programme about the Israel-Gaza war. ”

In its ruling, Ofcom added: “Breaches of the [broadcasting] code that have resulted in the audience being materially misled have always been considered by Ofcom to be among the most serious that can be committed by a broadcaster.”

The BBC will be required to air a statement of Ofcom’s findings on BBC Two in the primetime 9PM slot. A date for the statement is yet to be determined by Ofcom.

How to Survive a Warzone was produced by Hoyo Films, an independent production company run by Emmy and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Jamie Roberts. Overseeing the film for the BBC were Joanna Carr, head of current affairs, and commissioning editors Gian Quaglieni and Sarah Waldron.

The BBC’s internal review of the film, led by complaints chief Peter Johnston, concluded that it misled audiences by failing to declare English-speaking narrator Abdullah Al-Yazouri’s Hamas links, but said there was no evidence that the proscribed terror group “inappropriately impacted on the programme.”

Al-Yazouri’s connection was not declared to the BBC prior to the film screening, even though Hoyo was aware for eight months about Al-Yazouri’s family. After examining 5,000 documents and 150 hours of raw footage, Johnston “does not consider” that Hoyo “intentionally misled” the BBC during the production process, but said the company “bears most responsibility for this failure.”

Notably, the report said three members of Hoyo “did not at any stage prior to the broadcast of the programme” share Al-Yazouri’s Hamas links. This was despite a BBC editorial policy advisor questioning Hoyo, weeks before broadcast, about whether “due diligence” had been done on the 13-year-old boy’s Hamas connections. “Critics may raise something,” the note said.

Hoyo acknowledged that this question, posed on January 12, should have been answered. The production company told Johnston’s review that it struggled to keep up with the “bombardment” of requests and emails from the BBC, and the note from January 12 slipped through the net unintentionally.

Furthermore, Hoyo’s position was that the Hamas minister was responsible for agriculture and, therefore, did not hold a “political or military position” within the group that would make him a target for Israel.

British Composers Unite to End Ghostwriting in Film, TV and Game Music

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

A number of leading British composers have joined The Ivors Academy’s call to “End Ghostwriting” in a campaign to ensure media composers are credited and compensated fairly for their work.

Calling for an end to the practice of ghostwriting in music for film, TV and video games – the activity of contributing creatively to a soundtrack, without a writing credit being disclosed – the academy is encouraging composers to commit to changing industry practice by signing a pledge.

Ghostwriters in these sectors often receive no screen or IMDb credit, and therefore are excluded from cue sheets, meaning they lose the royalties they are legally entitled to.

According to the academy, the three pillars of the End Ghostwriting pledge are: To be fully transparent with productions about who will compose the music; To ensure that all contributing composers are credited on cue sheets, on screen where possible, and on IMDb; To accurately submit work for awards consideration that fairly credits everyone involved in the composition.

The campaign has been backed by a series of renowned media composers and members of The Ivors Academy, including Sheridan Tongue (Silent Witness, Wonders of the Universe), David Arnold (Casino Royale, Sherlock), Aisling Brouwer (The Buccaneers, White Riot) and more.

Other names involved include Ben Foster (Happy Valley, Torchwood), Daisy Coole and Tom Nettleship (The Pay Day, The Wives), Jessica Jones (The Tinder Swindler, Our Universe), and Sofia degli Alessandri-Hultquist (Dickinson, Red, White and Royal Blue), along with Jenna Fentimen, head of agency at Manners Faber, among others.

In a press release, Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy, said: “We’re calling time on ghostwriting, where talented media composers can work on high-profile productions without ever being acknowledged. Thanks to our Media Council of composers, we’re bringing transparency, integrity and fairness back to the heart of audio-visual music. We must give composers credit where credit is due.”

David Arnold, fellow and board member of The Ivors Academy, added: “Our Industry is changing rapidly. Budgets and schedules are becoming more compressed and workloads are becoming more complicated to manage. So sometimes we need help. This campaign is here to ensure that help doesn’t go unrecognised and unrewarded. It’s only decent and it’s only fair.”

The Ivors Academy also runs the Ivor Novello Awards, which recognize excellence in songwriting and composing. The End Ghostwriting campaign will impact the 2026 edition of the event, as entrants will now also be asked to confirm that cue sheets list all composers who wrote a cue from scratch or made a significant new creative contribution. Entries that do not include all qualifying writers will be ineligible for consideration.

Elsewhere, earlier this month (Oct. 2), RAYE received an Ivors Academy Honour in recognition of her songwriting advocacy, led by a campaign that resulted in U.K. major labels committing to cover expenses for songwriters attending their studio sessions.

Upon accepting the award at an event in London, she said: “Being a songwriter is also one of the greatest privileges, and I think it’s something that should be about grafting and talent, not about how rich you are, or to be in a good situation financially to be a songwriter. It shouldn’t be about that.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

In a chat with HT City, he tells us he is just glad that this will be the first film that his children- daughter Shora and son Yani, will be able to watch him in! “Mujhe Thamma ke liye excitement isiliye bhi hai kyunki voh world jahaan pe humne shoot kiya hai, voh sirf humne dant kathaaon mein pehle padha tha. And plus, the kind of films I do, kids can’t watch them. Yeh pehli film hai jo mere bachche dekh paayenge!,” laughs the 51-year-old.

Thamma is another installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) created by Dinesh Vijan. Springsteen film strips away the myth to depict ‘Bruce, the man’

LONDON, – U.S. rock star Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance on the London Film Festival red carpet on Wednesday, lending his support to the cast and makers of a new biographical movie about his life.

“Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” stars “The Bear” actor Jeremy Allen White as the multiple Grammy winner. But instead of focusing on his high-flying career, it offers a raw portrayal of the person behind the music.

Directed and co-written by Scott Cooper, the film is based on the book of the same name by Warren Zanes. It follows a young Springsteen, on the cusp of hitting the big time, struggling with his inner demons and childhood trauma while writing the stark 1982 album “Nebraska”.

White said the drama, which also delves into Springsteen’s fraught relationship with his father, played by Stephen Graham, shows a difficult but decisive period in the rocker’s life.

“I think at the core of it so much is about that longing for familial connection and the relationship between him and his father,” said White. “I think he made decisions during this period in his life that allowed him to live the life that he wanted to live.”

The film also features “Succession” star Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s supportive, longtime manager Jon Landau.

“It’s a film obviously about Bruce and about the making of ‘Nebraska’, but it’s about repairing trauma through art and confronting depression and mental health issues,” said Strong.

“I think it’s an incredibly courageous story to tell about someone as mythologised as Bruce, to tell the story of Bruce, the man,” Strong said.

The movie marks the first time the musician’s life has been depicted on the big screen. Springsteen, 76, was closely involved in the production.

“Very early on, he listened to me singing his songs. He said, ‘you sing very well. You sound like me, not just like me. You’re making the songs your own and I want the whole process to feel that way,'” White recalled. “Without that sort of blessing, I don’t think I would have been able to do what I did.

“He’s been very generous in every way. He gave me the guitar I learned to play on. I still have it,” White said.

The film begins its global cinematic rollout on October 22.
