Mastodon Honors Brent Hinds at First Show Since Guitarist’s Death

by jummy84 August 23, 2025

Mastodon is honoring the memory of their late bandmate and co-founder Brent Hinds.

On Friday (Aug. 22), the heavy metal band paid tribute to the guitarist during a performance at the Alaska State Fair, part of the ConocoPhillips Alaska Concert Series at the Borealis Theatre in Palmer, Alaska.

At the end of the set, drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor stepped to the front of the stage to deliver a heartfelt message about Hinds, who died earlier in the week following a motorcycle accident in Atlanta. He was 51.

“We lost somebody very special to us yesterday,” Dailor told the crowd. Brent Hinds, 25 years with us as our guitar player, one of the most creative, beautiful people that we’ve ever come across in this world, tragically left us. Very, very unfortunate. We loved him so, so, so very much.”

“We had the ups and downs of a 25-year relationship. You know what I mean? It’s not always perfect, it’s not always amazing, but we were brothers to the end. And we really loved each other and we made a lot, a lot of very beautiful music together. And I think that that’s gonna stand the test of time, evidenced by you people here tonight.”

Dailor aslo reflected on the band’s decades-long journey with Hinds. “So we will continue to play Brent’s beautiful, beautiful music that he helped us make, that we formed this band together and traveled the world together, slept in a van together, laid our heads down on beds of f—king kitty litter, got way too drunk to remember anything the next day about a thousand, million times over and over again with the love that we shared and the beauty, all the audiences that we played, for all the stages we stepped on,” he said.

He concluded, “I don’t know. We’re just at a loss for words. We’re absolutely devastated and crushed to lose him and to be able to never have him back again. But you guys made it okay for us to come on stage and do this tonight. So that was for f—king Brent, okay? Thank you guys so much. We will see you real soon.”

Hinds co-founded Mastodon in 2000 in Atlanta alongside bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher and Dailor. Over a 25-year career, the band released nine albums that charted on the Billboard 200, including The Hunter (2011), Once More ’Round the Sun (2014), and Emperor of Sand (2017) — the latter two peaking at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart. In 2018, Mastodon won a Grammy for best metal performance for “Sultan’s Curse.”

In March, Mastodon announced that Hinds would be stepping away from the lineup. The band initially claimed the decision was mutual, but Hinds later said he was “kicked out” of the group.

Following his passing on Wednesday (Aug. 21), Mastodon shared a statement on Instagram.

“We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief… Last night, Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident,” they wrote. “We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. Our hearts are with Brent’s family, friends, and fans. At this time, we kindly ask that you respect everyone’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Regina King Opens Up About How Son’s Death Changed Her Outlook On Life

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Regina King is opening up about how the death of her son Ian has transformed her perspective on life. The acclaimed actress says the event has led her to be more present and even inspired a meaningful entrepreneurial venture.

In her new Haute Living cover story, the Shirely actress said,

“I think in life, it’s harder and harder to have those meaningful moments. And that’s why, when I have them now, they feel even more special. We have them less and less as time goes on, and we have to work harder to have them.” When speaking about how she lives differently now while carrying grief, she said, “I one thousand percent live in the moment more. I don’t know if that’s something that just comes with time, or with pain, or with the pandemic — probably all of it. But I feel it.”

Her son Ian died by suicide in January 2022 at the age of 26. He was her only child and she shared him with her ex-husband, Ian Alexander Sr..

The Oscar-winning actress is focused on keeping her son’s memory alive in her life, most recently in the form of an orange wine. Her newly launched brand is named MianU — short for “me and you” — and was inspired by the wine Ian introduced her to.

“It was kind of an epiphany I had that came from a place of continuing to create memories in Ian’s spirit. I’m still here, on this plane, separate from him, and I’m surrounded by people talking about their children — engagements, weddings, new chapters — [while mine is gone],” she told the outlet. “I still love talking about Ian: I just don’t have the chance to create new memories in the way they do. But I’m not focused on that. This is my way of creating something new, together.”

The wine is deeply meaningful to her because it reminds her of her son constantly, with each and every moment. “Every time a cork opens, or every time I’m pouring a glass, I’m thinking of Ian. I’m thinking of him 24/7 anyway, but always in this moment, I can see his face. And for people who never got the chance to dance with Ian, maybe they’ll be curious. Maybe they’ll ask. His name is right there, in the middle of it all. He’ll never be forgotten… If you see me, you see Ian,” she said.

Another way the Boondocks talent also aims to keep her son with her at all times is by intentionally speaking “about him in the present, because he’s always with me,” and remembering “the joy and happiness that he gave all of us.”

Bonjour, Emily in Paris fans! The hit Netflix series is officially returning for season 5, and filming began earlier this summer on the next chapter of Emily Cooper’s adventures. Main cast members Lily Collins, Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Lucas Bravo and more are reprising their roles, but production paused in late August when Assistant Director Diego Borella suddenly died while working on set. Local Italian news outlets reported that he collapsed from a “sudden heart attack” while preparing to film a final scene at the Hotel Danieli in Venice, Italy.

Filming has been suspended following Borella’s tragic death, according to Il Messaggero.

Hollywood Life has rounded up everything we know so far about the upcoming season of Emily in Paris.

When Does Season 5 of Emily in Paris Come Out?

Netflix announced that season 5 of Emily in Paris will premiere on December 18, 2025.

After the success of Season 4, which ranked No. 1 on Netflix during its premiere, production for the upcoming season is scheduled to begin in May 2025.

Will Emily in Paris Take Place In Rome?

Season 5 officially began production in Rome this May, with filming continuing in Italy over the summer before the cast and crew return to Paris later in the season.

At the end of Season 4, Emily relocates to Rome to help open a new Agence Grateau office and spend time with her new love interest, Marcello (played by Eugenio Franceschini). Still, series creator Darren Star confirmed that the show’s title isn’t changing. “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome… It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris,” he told Tudum by Netflix.

Collins echoed the excitement during a Good Morning America interview on September 16, 2024, saying, “We got to explore Rome, and I’m really hoping that in season five, we get to explore more of Italy.” She added, “We had the best time. The whole cast felt a little bit like Emily did in season one, running around the city wide-eyed, with everything feeling so exciting.”

Emily in Paris Season 5 Cast

Season 5 of Emily in Paris will bring back many fan favorites, with a few notable changes. Collins returns as Emily Cooper, alongside Park (Mindy), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine), and Laviscount (Alfie).

Franceschini, who played Marcello in Season 4, has been promoted to a recurring role. Meanwhile, Camille Razat (Camille) will not return as a series regular, as her character’s storyline wrapped up in Season 4.

Aubrey Plaza describes grief over husband Jeff Baena’s death: An ‘ocean of awfulness’ – National

Aubrey Plaza has described her grief over husband Jeff Baena’s death, likening it to “a giant ocean of awfulness.”

The actor spoke on the podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, telling her former Parks and Recreation costar in her most detailed public remarks to date that it’s been a daily struggle to overcome her grief. Writer-director Baena’s January death at age 47 was ruled a suicide.

“Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning,” Plaza tells Poehler at the outset of their interview after being asked how she is coping. “I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m OK. But it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”

She likens her grief to an image from an Apple TV+ horror movie starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.

“Did you see that movie The Gorge?” Plaza asks Poehler. “In the movie, there’s a cliff on one side and then there’s a cliff on the other side, and there’s a gorge in between, and its filled with all these monster people trying to get them,” Plaza says. “And I swear when I watched it I was like, ‘That feels like what my grief is like,’ or what grief could be like … where it’s like at all times, there’s a giant ocean of awfulness that’s right there and I can see it.”

Plaza adds: “And sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just be in it, and sometimes I just look at it. And then sometimes I try to get away from it. But it’s just always there, and the monster people are trying to get me, like Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.”

Baena was a writer and director who frequently collaborated with Plaza. He cowrote David O. Russell’s 2004 film I Heart Huckabees and wrote and directed five of his own films. Plaza starred in his 2014 directorial debut, the zombie comedy Life After Beth.

After largely remaining silent since Baena’s death, Plaza is now promoting her new film, Honey Don’t! The dark comedy from director Ethan Coen has Margaret Qualley as a private investigator looking into nefarious goings-on in Bakersfield, California.

Todd Chrisley Gets Emotional Over Nic Kerdiles’ Death and Wishing Savannah Married Him

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Nearly two years after Nic Kerdiles was killed in a motorcycle crash, Todd Chrisley is speaking about the tragedy for the first time. The late former hockey player was engaged to Todd’s daughter Savannah Chrisley before they split in 2021, and Todd formed a close relationship with him during the pair’s time together.

“Out of respect for the love that we have for him, I will tell you, it was the hardest thing that I have ever dealt with in my life,” Todd admitted on the Chrisley Confessions 2.0 podcast. “For those of you who don’t know, Nic Kerdiles was one of the finest, funniest, kindest young men, and I so wanted he and Savannah to be married. I wanted grandchildren, and that didn’t come to pass.”

Savannah was visiting her father in prison when she learned that Nic had died in September 2023. Although almost two years have passed, Todd said his heart is still “not healed.” He also told listeners that he’s “never talking about” this topic again and gave some insight into the relationship he maintained with Nic, even after his split from Savannah.

“Even when they broke up, I still had lunch with Nic,” Todd shared. “I still talked to Nic every day.” Julie Chrisley noted that Nic supported the family amid Todd and Julie’s legal issues, and Todd added, “He and Savannah were no longer together, but he was still there for us.”

Todd and Julie began their prison sentences for tax evasion and bank and wire fraud in January 2023. They were released in May after being fully pardoned by Donald Trump.

“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of [Nic],” Todd said. “I think I still grieve what could have been because I had always hoped that they would find their way back.”

Hernandez Govan On Trial For Young Dolph’s Death (UPDATES)

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

The trial against Hernandez Govan is on day two after Monday’s start. Govan is charged with organizing the daytime ambush killing of Young Dolph at a Memphis bakery in November 2021. The 45-year-old faces charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and attempted murder. While prosecutors aren’t arguing that Hernandez Govan pulled the trigger, they do claim he set up the whole play for the two shooters who did.

RELATED: Prosecutor Claims Yo Gotti’s Late Brother Big Jook Put A $100,000 Hit On Young Dolph (UPDATE)

Young Dolph, whose legal name is Adolph Thornton Jr., was a rapper, independent label owner, and producer who grew up in Memphis. Aside from the music, the city also cherished him for his charitable works. When the ambush happened, the 36-year-old was in his hometown to hand out Thanksgiving turkeys to families. He had stopped to visit his favorite cookie shop. Then, that turned into an attack that shocked the entertainment world.

One Of Young Dolph’s Shooters Spilled It All

Memphis prosecutors have portrayed the killing as part of an effort by Anthony ‘Big Jook’ Mims to get revenge on Young Dolph for tracks dissing Big Jook and the record label he helped run for his brother, Yo Gotti.

Cornelius Smith Jr., who admitted to being one of the shooters who killed Young Dolph, has been helping them build that case. He’s flipped on everyone involved, including his co-shooter, Justin Johnson. He testified that Big Jook put out a $100,000 hit on Young Dolph. Additionally, Jook allegedly had smaller bounties on all the artists at Young Dolph’s record label, Paper Route Empire. Big Jook was shot and killed outside a restaurant earlier this year.

Smith kept the same energy at Hernandez Govan‘s trial on Monday. He testified: “I didn’t know anything about Paper Route having no hits,” before Govan told him about them, per the Associated Press. He said Govan hired him to “do the hits” and was going to take $10,000 as his cut. Cornelius Smith Jr. also said Govan was who told him and Justin Johnson that Young Dolph would be in Memphis for the volunteer event. He called it their “opportunity,” per Smith.

Hernandez Govan’s Lawyer Calls Out Main Witness Testimony

Govan’s defense attorney, Manny Arora, tried to paint Cornelius Smith as an unreliable witness who would say anything to get a lighter sentence. Arora pointed to previous testimony in which Smith recalled a chance encounter with Big Jook. At the time, Smith implied that Big Jook was the person who hired him. After Smith was arrested, his attorney called Big Jook’s attorney and received somewhere between $38,000 and $50,000 in cash. Smith said on Monday that he did not know who had provided the money.

Smith also testified that he previously heard that Hernandez Govan might be working with the FBI. Arora asked why Smith would take a job from Govan if that were the case. Smith said that Govan was “innocent until proven guilty.”

What Were The Shooters Charged With?

Smith is charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He has pleaded not guilty and does not yet have a trial date.

Justin Johnson was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in September 2024. He was later sentenced for two other convictions from the trial: conspiracy to commit murder and being a felon in possession of a gun.

As mentioned, Smith previously was the main witness against Justin Johnson and named him as the second shooter. Johnson was convicted of first-degree murder last year. A judge sentenced him to life in prison with the possibility of parole in September 2024. He was later sentenced for two other convictions from the trial: conspiracy to commit murder and being a felon in possession of a gun.

I “Bawled My Eyes Out for Hours” Upon Learning of Ozzy Osbourne’s Death

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford was extremely saddened to learn of Ozzy Osbourne’s passing, revealing, “I just curled up in a ball and bawled my eyes out for hours.”

The singer spoke about his reaction to Ozzy’s death in a new interview with Detroit radio station WRIF (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), recalling, “Oh, man. I got a call the day [Ozzy’s death] happened. I just put the phone down in my hotel room in — I think I was in Leeds, in England, and I just curled up in a ball and bawled my eyes out for hours. I just couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it now. I’m still grieving, like so many people.”

He continued, “And then we had a show the next day. So, God, how do you process all of this tragedy, all of this love, because I’ve never seen such an outpouring of love. And we did the show and we came to the song that we’ll be playing when we come to see you guys — it’s called ‘Giants in the Sky,’ from the Invincible Shield album — and that song talks about people that we love in music that have moved on to this beautiful place. We reference Lemmy and Ronnie [James Dio] and Paul Di’Anno [of Iron Maiden] and Jill [Janus from] Huntress and Chris [Cornell] and all of these greats, Janis Joplin, Freddie Mercury. And then for that show we added Ozzy at the end.”

Halford added, “And I said to everybody, this just so much to try and comprehend and so tough, but Ozzy would say, ‘Let’s party. Let’s rock and roll. Let’s live it up. Let’s enjoy.’ That was in his heart, his soul, and his spirit.”

The Judas Priest singer further stated that it was important to preserve the legacies of artists like Ozzy and others. “”So it’s great that we are talking about him now and we should keep talking about him forever, like I always talk about Ronnie, I talk about Lemmy,” Halford said. “These are all friends of mine. And we have to celebrate — we have to celebrate. That’s the way of helping you through the grief. You think about the memories, you think about the joy, you think about the good times, and that’s what we will always do with Ozzy.”

Judas Priest were invited to take part in the “Back to the Beginning” concert featuring the final performances of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, but had already committed to playing Scorpions’ 60th anniversary show on that same day. In lieu of their absence at the historic event, the band recorded a cover of Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

“We used to text occasionally,” said Halford of his interactions with Ozzy. “‘Cause he’s another guy I was in awe of. I’m still in awe of Alice [Cooper]. [Laughs] ‘Oh my God. He’s Alice Cooper.’ And I used to feel the same whenever I was in Ozzy’s presence, because he had this larger-than-life personality. It’d been a while since we’ve been in touch. But, again, I just have the wonderful memories of the two opportunities I was able to sing for him with Sabbath. And then this recent opportunity to cover ‘War Pigs,’ which we still play at the start of our show, which is one of the greatest metal songs ever written. So that connection will never be severed in that respect.”

Halford famously stepped in to front Black Sabbath at a show on Ozzfest 2004 when Ozzy had bronchitis. He also fronted Sabbath for a couple shows in 1992 when then-Sabbath-singer Ronnie James Dio refused to open for Ozzy.

Judas Priest are set to embark on a co-headlining North American tour with Alice Cooper this fall, with tickets vailable here. Watch Rob Halford’s interview with WRIF below.

Jeff Baena and wife Aubrey Plaza were spouses and creative partners for a decade before his life tragically ended on January 3, 2025. The filmmaker, whose credits include Plaza’s Life After Beth and I Heart Huckabees, was just 47 years old when he died by suicide.

On January 6, 2025, Plaza released a statement to People, calling her late husband’s death an “unimaginable tragedy.”

Baena and Plaza had one of Hollywood’s longest and most private romances, which eventually led to their secret wedding. In a December 2021 interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, she shared that they broke tradition by wearing tie-dye pajamas—made by Baena—for their wedding.

Here’s what you should know about the relationship between The White Lotus actress and her late husband.

When Did Aubrey Plaza & Jeff Baena Meet?

According to People, Baena and Plaza met back in 2011, though little is known about their early relationship. A 2022 GQ profile of Plaza revealed some sweet details—they met over a game of Balderdash. In 2021, they appeared together for the last time on social media, with Plaza’s Instagram caption showcasing how proud she was of her accomplished husband. “So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that take us to Italia to cause some more trouble,” she wrote at the time.

How Long Were Aubrey Plaza & Jeff Baena Married?

According to GQ, the two tied the knot in a “quickie ceremony” in 2020, so the duo had been married almost five years and were together for 13 years. Her rep confirmed to People after her May 2021 social media post referring to him as her “husband,” that she and Baena had married. “It’s so great, it’s so complicated,” she told host Drew Barrymore during a 2021 episode of her eponymous talk show. “It’s, like, extreme highs and extreme, you know, complications. It’s a really hard thing to navigate, but we’ve been together for 11 years. We just muscle our way through it.”

She also spoke of their time together during the COVID-19 pandemic, remembering it with warmth. “We were quarantined for months and months like everybody else,” she recalled to People, also in 2021. “And we did enjoy it. I think it was, obviously other than all of the catastrophic things happening in the world, just on a personal level, relationship level, was kind of nice to just be forced to be in one place for that long.”

In her discussion with GQ, she reflected on the “peaks and valleys” of a longtime romance. “I’ve been with my husband for 12 years,” she told the outlet. “I relate to being in a relationship that has peaks and valleys, and going through a rough patch and comparing yourself to another couple that seems perfect.”

In March 2025, it was revealed that Baena had been separated from Plaza since September 2024, according to a report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner. A month later, Plaza reportedly received concerning messages from him, which led her to request a welfare check. Following the welfare check in October 2024, Baena began attending therapy. Plaza received her last text message from him on the day of his death, at 10:36 a.m. ET.

What Happened to Jeff Baena?

According to TMZ, Baena was found after police and fire personnel responded to a call from an assistant around 10:30 a.m. Reports indicate that Baena’s body was discovered by his dog walker, who entered the residence and found him. The assistant had reportedly discovered Baena’s body before police and fire arrived to conduct a death investigation. Law enforcement later confirmed that he died by suicide.

What Did Jeff Baena Do For a Living?

Baena was an accomplished filmmaker, screenwriter, and director. Educated at New York University Tisch School of the Arts, he later relocated to Los Angeles to launch his career. He worked alongside Robert Zemeckis and David O. Russell, ultimately collaborating with Russell on I Heart Huckabees and Meet the Fockers in 2004. His filmmaking debut came a decade later with Life After Beth, which starred Plaza. The Little Hours and Horse Girl followed, and Spin Me Round would be his final film in 2022.

Additionally, a toxicology test included in the report stated that there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol above the legal limit in David’s system at the time.

No foul play is suspected, and the Hawaii Police Department told People Aug. 19 that the investigation into David’s death has now been completed.

David’s family first shared the heartbreaking news of his passing on June 16, when his sister Jalene Kanani Bell shared a moving tribute to the late actor.

“It is with a heavy heart I share that my sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant and handsome little brother David H. K. Bell will spend today in the company of our Heavenly Father,” she wrote on Facebook at the time. “I’ve been waiting for the words and mindset to properly express the joy of a human, and Prince of a Man he was, but fate pushed my hand this morning by a pre-scheduled Father’s Day newsletter honoring the men in our lives.”
