Weezer Bassist’s Wife Gets Mental Health Diversion in Shooting Case

by jummy84 September 25, 2025

Jillian Lauren, the bestselling author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Thursday and was granted the right to enter a two-year mental health diversion program.

If she completes the program as ordered, a judge is expected to dismiss the two felony charges filed against her in connection with the wild exchange of gunfire with LAPD officers that left her wounded in her own backyard on April 8. Officials say she fired first.

“We think this was the right resolution,” Lauren’s lawyer, Hilary Lee Potashner, tells Rolling Stone. The attorney and her co-counsel, Georgina Wakefield, said Thursday they’re both “very pleased” that Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Susan J. De Witt found Lauren eligible for the opportunity to have the case dismissed.

According to court sources, the program will require that Lauren participate in regular counseling and submit to random drug and alcohol testing. She also cannot possess any firearms.

Lauren, 52, previously pleaded not guilty to charges she willfully fired at several police officers who were shouting at her over a fence while searching for hit-and-run suspects allegedly attempting to hide in neighboring backyards in her Eagle Rock neighborhood. No officers were hit, but several fired their own weapons during the chaotic scene captured on video.

According to the LAPD, Lauren racked her gun and fired it during the alleged standoff with officers who were on the other side of a fence, searching for the hit-and-run suspects. Body-worn camera and home-surveillance video released by the LAPD on YouTube showed the minutes leading up to the shooting.

In the nearly 22-minute compilation, multiple officers are heard repeatedly yelling at a woman, instructing her to drop her gun. The woman is not seen or heard in the video recorded by the officers. The fence was too high for the height of the officers’ body-worn cameras, and the scene appeared hectic, with the loud drone of a police helicopter overhead. Toward the end of the exchange, one officer identifies himself as “police” while another shouts that he’s with the California Highway Patrol. It’s not clear if the officers’ uniforms could be seen over the fence.

Editor’s picks

A separate video from Lauren’s home-surveillance system, also released by the LAPD, gives a different perspective. It shows Lauren exiting her house holding a black handgun and walking around the perimeter. The video appears to show Lauren manipulating and firing the gun, but it’s recorded from a distance and has no sound. After appearing to slightly recoil, Lauren walks away, looking relatively calm.

According to the police footage, as soon as an officer warned, “Oh, she racked it,” police opened fire, unloading a barrage of ear-splitting shots. Oddly, in her home-surveillance video, Lauren does not appear to react to the volley of shots or exhibit any injury in the seconds after she allegedly fired.

About an hour after the shooting, Lauren exited her home and was arrested without incident. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to her arm. She was later booked on suspicion of attempted murder and released on $1 million bail. Prosecutors ultimately charged her with firing a gun with gross negligence and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

In a 911 call also released by police, someone inside Lauren’s home can be heard telling an operator that Lauren was apparently shot by one of the suspects of the manhunt. Lauren is heard talking in the background, explaining what happened. “I had my gun, and he said, ‘Put down that gun. Put down that gun.’ I said, ‘Put down your fucking gun.’ And then he shot me,” Lauren says in the call released by the LAPD. “There are three men out at the other side of this fence here.”

Trending Stories

According to police, investigators recovered a 9mm Glock handgun and a spent shell casing from Lauren’s residence.

Lauren, who has not commented publicly on the shooting, released her first memoir, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, in 2010, and her second, Everything You Ever Wanted, in May 2015. A few days after the incident, Shriner performed with Weezer at Coachella.

Jacqueline Fernandez Seeks SC Relief In Rs 215 Cr Money Laundering Case; Hearing Tomorrow- Deets Inside

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Jacqueline Fernandez has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief in a Rs 215-crore money laundering case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The actress is contesting the Delhi High Court’s decision not to annul the case against her, which was filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The case involves allegations of money laundering amounting to over Rs 200 crore, with Fernandez named as a co-accused.

Jacqueline Fernandez Approaches SC Seeking Relief In Rs 215 Cr Money Laundering Case

A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih is scheduled to hear her petition on Monday, September 22. The ED’s chargesheet, filed on August 17, 2022, claims Fernandez continued to accept lavish gifts from Chandrasekhar despite being aware of his criminal activities.

The agency alleged that she concealed receipts related to the crime and even used wiped-out data from her phone to hide evidence. The ED stated, “Fernandez admitted it after confrontation,” highlighting their suspicions about her involvement.

Jacqueline On Sukesh’s Criminal Background

Fernandez, however, has denied the allegations, asserting she had no knowledge of Chandrasekhar’s criminal background. “I had no idea about his criminal activities,” she has maintained over the years. Despite her protests, the controversy surrounding her and Chandrasekhar remains intense, with their viral pictures from 2022 fueling widespread speculation. Even while Chandrasekhar remains in jail, reports suggest he continues to send her lavish gifts and love letters.

The ED’s statement further details, “Sukesh Chandrasekhar had given various gifts worth Rs 5.71 crore to Jacqueline Fernandez from the proceeds of criminal activities including extortion. Chandrasekhar used his long-time associate and co-accused Pinky Irani to deliver these gifts to her.”

Fernandez has been questioned multiple times by the ED, as well as by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing, and was named in a supplementary charge sheet filed by the authorities.

‘Was Offered Private Jet, Fly To Mumbai’: Shah Rukh Khan’s Lawyer Reveals On Aryan Khan Drug Case

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan left no stone unturned after his son, Aryan Khan, was arrested in an alleged drug case in 2021. While Aryan received a clean chit in 2022, the period he spent in prison was incredibly taxing for Shah Rukh, who relentlessly tried to secure bail for his son. In a new interview, Aryan’s lawyer, Mukul Rohatgi, shared the extraordinary lengths Shah Rukh went to, including convincing his wife to talk him into flying back from a holiday to take the case.

In a chat with Republic TV, Mukul Rohatgi, the former Attorney-General of India, revealed the inside story of the high-profile case. For him, it was a “regular bail matter” that only became a national spectacle due to Shah Rukh Khan’s association. “According to me, it was a regular bail matter, as far as I am concerned and I have done thousands of them. It just happened that the personality is important. And therefore, you know, everybody is looking at it. But in short, I was in the UK on a holiday and these were Covid times,” he shared.

Rohatgi, initially hesitant, was convinced by Shah Rukh Khan’s determination. Shah Rukh even offered him a private jet to fly back to Mumbai. Rohatgi, however, declined the offer, explaining his preference for larger aircraft. The actor had already checked into the same hotel where Rohatgi typically stays, the Trident in Nariman Point, demonstrating his readiness to act swiftly.

An Intelligent Client and a Fateful Hearing

Rohatgi found his client to be far more prepared than he expected. “I found him to be quite keen and intelligent,” he said, revealing that Shah Rukh had made his own detailed notes and points for the case. Shah Rukh discussed these meticulously prepared notes with his legal team before the court hearings began. “He discussed it with me, and then we argued it. It was argued for two half days or three half days or something like that, and finally, the bail was granted,” Rohatgi shared. After the successful bail hearing, Rohatgi promptly returned to England to finish his holiday, bringing a close to the intense chapter.

The incident began in October 2021 when the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided a rave party on a Goa-bound cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. The high-profile bust quickly became the center of national headlines after Aryan Khan, his friend Arbaaz Merchant, and several others were detained and subsequently arrested. Aryan spent nearly a month in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, a period marked by a constant media circus and public scrutiny. Throughout this ordeal, Shah Rukh Khan remained committed to fighting for his son, a tireless effort that paid off when Aryan was eventually granted bail.

A New Beginning and an Artistic Reflection

Following his release, Aryan received a clean chit from the NCB in 2022, citing a lack of evidence. The entire episode brought unprecedented stress to the Khan family, but it appears they have turned the page and are moving forward.

This traumatic experience has now become a source of creative expression for Aryan Khan. In his directorial debut, The Bads of Bollywood, which recently premiered on Netflix, he directly referenced the incident. In the show, he used his own experience to make a lighthearted jab, implying his arrest happened for no reason. This choice reflects a new chapter for the star kid, who is now carving his own path in the entertainment industry as a writer and director. He transforms a difficult personal ordeal into a moment of artistic commentary, proving his resilience and moving beyond the headlines that once defined his public image. The show marks a new beginning for Aryan and a subtle, yet powerful, statement about his past.

Instagram, Facebook Slam Case Over Song Use

by jummy84 September 19, 2025

Meta says there’s no basis for Eminem’s music publisher to claim that “Lose Yourself” and other iconic tracks were made available to billions of users without permission, urging a federal judge to dismiss the lawsuit that seeks an “eye-popping” $110 million in damages.

Eight Mile Style, a publishing company that owns 243 Eminem compositions, filed suit in May against the juggernaut owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Eight Mile alleged that all three Meta platforms were hosting unlicensed versions of its songs in their music libraries, which allow users to easily add their favorite tracks to the photos and videos they post.

Related

The publisher is seeking the maximum statutory damages of $150,000 per case of infringement, which, multiplied by 243 songs and three platforms, adds up to a whopping $109.4 million. But Meta said in a Thursday (Sept. 18) motion to dismiss the lawsuit that while Eight Mile’s complaint “is long on rhetoric, it is remarkably short on specifics.”

“Fanciful estimates are not a substitute for well-pleaded facts,” wrote Meta’s lawyers from the firm Mayer Brown. “Belying their extravagant claims, Eight Mile never identifies a single example of an allegedly infringing post or story across any of the three Meta services at issue.”

Meta says that Eight Mile’s failure to identify specific instances of alleged infringement should make the case dead on arrival, since the social media giant can’t be expected to adequately defend itself against such generalized claims.

Thursday’s motion also claims that, beyond these defects in meeting the pleading standards, Eight Mile’s lawsuit simply gets the facts wrong. Meta says it did, in fact, have permission to use Eminem’s songs, per a broader licensing agreement signed in 2020 with Audiam, a digital rights collection agency that supposedly negotiated the deal on behalf of Eight Mile.

Related

Eminem during day 1 of the NFL Draft on April 25, 2024 at Fox Theatre in Detroit, MI.

“Far from showing ‘actual knowledge’ of infringement, these allegations instead show that the Audiam licenses covered the compositions — or, at minimum, the parties’ good-faith understanding that the licenses did,” write the Meta attorneys.

Lawyers for Eight Mile Style did not immediately return requests for comment on the motion on Thursday. Eminem does not have any ownership interest in the publishing company and is not involved in the litigation.

Meta’s motion to dismiss argues that Eight Mile Style is “notoriously litigious,” and indeed, the publisher is no stranger to copyright litigation. The company spent years suing Spotify for allegedly failing to obtain proper licenses for its songs, but a federal judge threw out the case in a sharply critical ruling last year. Eight Mile Style is now appealing that decision.

Karan Johar Gets Relief From Delhi High Court in Personality Rights Case

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmmaker Karan Johar has secured significant relief from the Delhi High Court after raising concerns about the misuse of his image, voice, and name on social media without consent. The court affirmed that his personality rights would be protected and directed major tech companies, including Google, Meta, and X, to provide relevant information. Meanwhile, the e-commerce site Redbubble has been ordered to take down content deemed objectionable, with the court promising a detailed order at the next hearing.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora clarified that “Defendants 14, 15, and 16, which comprise the social networking companies Google, Meta, and X, will supply IT log records in addition to Basic Subscriber Information details.” The court also summoned other online platforms like Giphy and Pinterest (defendants 2-5 and 7-10) as part of Johar’s main lawsuit. Summons for the remaining defendants, including Redbubble and the social media giants, will be considered at the next hearing, as they were primarily impleaded for compliance purposes.

The court indicated during proceedings, “In the IA (interim relief application), I will pass a detailed order. Injunction to be granted.” Counsel for Redbubble confirmed they would begin removing infringing material within a week. At the previous hearing, the court had asked Johar to provide a precise list of URLs or posts that required action and to clarify the types of content, such as whether they were defamatory, obscene, or misleading.

Karan Johar

This development comes amid a series of recent decisions by the Delhi High Court protecting celebrity personality rights. Similar orders were recently passed in favour of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, where the court noted that the unauthorized use of their images, voices, and names through technologies like AI constitutes a violation of privacy. The Johar case reinforces the judiciary’s stance on safeguarding individuals against misuse of their digital persona.

Dharma Productions shared a statement, “Karan Johar gets relief from Delhi High Court in personality rights case. The court stated that Karan Johar’s personality rights will be protected – his picture, voice, and name cannot be used on social media without his permission.”

As reported by LiveLaw, the Delhi HC directed companies like Google, Meta, and X to provide details, while the website Redbubble has been asked to remove objectionable content. The court will announce its detailed order at the next hearing. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora said that Defendants 14, 15, and 16, which comprise the social networking companies Google, Meta, and X, will supply IT log records in addition to Basic Subscriber Information details.

In Johar’s main lawsuit, the court additionally summoned defendant entities 2-5 and 7-10, which are online platforms like Giphy, Pinterest, etc. The court said, “Summonses are not being issued to the remaining defendants 11-16 as they are being impleaded for compliances and the issuance of summons will be considered on the next date of hearing.” The court further verbally said, “In the IA (interim relief application), I will pass a detailed order. Injunction to be granted”.

What Happened Earlier?

Other platforms like Giphy, Pinterest (Defendants 2-5 and 7-10) were summoned. Counsel for Redbubble (Defendant 11) informed the court that they would initiate the process of removing the infringing content within a week. Defendants 11-16 were not summoned at this time but will be considered at the next hearing. At the last hearing, the court requested Karan Johar to provide a clear list of social media posts or URLs against which action was sought. The court also asked for clarification on the categories of content, such as defamatory, obscene, or misleading.

Michael Jordan’s Son Marcus Cuts Deal To Settle DUI Case, Must Write 250-Word Apology Letter To Arresting Officer

An apology can go a long way.

#MarcusJordan, son of NBA legend #MichaelJordan, has entered a pretrial diversion program in Orange County, Florida, to resolve his DUI case stemming from a February arrest. Per the agreement, signed on Sept. 12, he must complete 50 hours of community service, install an interlock device on his vehicle, submit to random drug testing, give a $1,000 charitable donation, and write a 250-word apology letter to the arresting officer

If Marcus fulfills these requirements within 12 months, prosecutors have agreed to dismiss charges of DUI, ketamine possession, and resisting arrest without violence. The case originated from an incident where Marcus’ Lamborghini SUV became stuck on train tracks while he was allegedly under the influence. Jordan has since publicly stated that he is sober and committed to making amends.

dEUS will play their classic albums ‘Worst Case Scenario’ and ‘In A Bar, Under The Sea’ in full on a UK and European tour next year to celebrate their 30th anniversaries.

The influential Belgian rockers will celebrate their early years on the 19-date tour across the continent, though they will “not necessarily” be playing the two albums – released in 1994 and 1996 respectively – front to back.

The tour will kick off in Lille, France on March 12 before taking in cities including Paris, Brussels and Berlin. There is only one UK date on the tour, taking place at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on March 17. They will then sign off in Oslo on April 11.

Tickets are on sale now – you can buy yours here and see the full list of dates below.

dEUS’ ‘Worst Case Vs In A Bar’ UK and European tour dates are:

MARCH
12 – Lille, FR, L’Aeronef
13 – Paris, FR, L’Olympia
15 – Dijon, FR, La Vapeur
17 – London, UK, O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire
19 – Brussels, BE, Forest National
21 – Nijmegen, NL, De Vereeniging
24 – Cologne, DE, Burgerhaus Stollwerck
25 – Berlin, DE, Metropol
27 – Frankfurt, DE, Batschknapp
28 – Fribourg, CH, Fri-Son
29 – Milan, IT, Magazzini Generali
31 – Vienna, AT, Arena

APRIL

3 – Amsterdam, NL, Paradiso
6 – Groningen, NL, De Oosterpoort
7 – Hamburg, DE, Markthalle
9 – Copenhagen, DK, Amager Bio
10 – Stockholm, SE, Debaser
11 – Oslo, NO, Rockefeller

Breaking out in the early ’90s, dEUS eluded definition with their experimental style of rock music, blending elements of folk and jazz. They also became notably more prolific than many other acts from their home country of Belgium.

They have remained active since, other than a hiatus in the early 2000s. They released their first album for 10 years, ‘How To Replace It’, in 2023.

The band last toured in 2019 to mark the 20th anniversary of their cult album ‘The Ideal Crash’.

Judge Urges A$AP Relli to Consider Dropping A$AP Rocky Defamation Case

Judge Urges A$AP Relli to Consider Dropping A$AP Rocky Defamation Case

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

A California judge suggested Monday that A$AP Relli should consider dropping his defamation lawsuit against A$AP Rocky before an upcoming ruling that could leave him on the hook for Rocky’s substantial legal fees.

“I would urge you to contact the other side and see if a deal can be made,” Los Angeles County Judge Randolph M. Hammock said at a morning hearing in downtown L.A. “Maybe in exchange for dismissing the lawsuit, they’ll drop their claim for fees. … Maybe it’s time to cut your losses.”

Hammock warned that if Rocky prevails with his pending motion to dismiss the case on free speech grounds – something he signaled was likely – Relli could be facing upwards of $50,000 in fees owed to Rocky and the rapper’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina. “I’m not talking chump change here. It would be tens of thousands, easily,” he cautioned.

Relli, born Terell Ephron, appeared by phone at the hearing, representing himself. He told the court that his team of high-powered lawyers stopped representing him after a criminal court jury found Rocky not guilty of shooting him with a semiautomatic gun during a dispute on a Los Angeles street in 2021.

“I’ve already invested over $500,000. I paid [my prior law firm] Sheppard Mullin, and they left me at the last minute. So now, I’m stuck on my own. I’m just fighting for my rights here,” Ephron told Judge Hammock.

Speaking slowly and deliberately, the judge repeatedly tried to break down the legal issues behind Rocky’s pending anti-SLAPP motion. He said the law is so “harsh” that Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, and Tacopina could still seek fees, even if Ephron dismissed his case immediately.

“Mr. Ephron, listen to me carefully, OK? This is a very, highly technical motion. It has to do with the First Amendment,” Judge Hammock said. “They have to [show] this is a matter of public interest. They probably will show that. I’m pretty sure they will. I think your case has gotten some press, okay? And I know that Mr. Mayers was recently acquitted. … Maybe you can reflect upon this case and what you want to do.” The judge said it was still possible he might rule in Ephron’s favor, but again he warned that Ephron was the underdog. He said Ephron might be throwing “good money” after “bad” if he persists.

Editor’s picks

California’s anti-SLAPP statute was designed to give defendants a way to mount early challenges to frivolous lawsuits seeking to chill their free speech. Defendants bringing the motion must first convince the court that their speech was a matter of public concern. If they can, plaintiffs must then step in and convince the court that they already have ample admissible evidence proving they were defamed, even before any discovery in the case. It’s a high bar, the judge said.

Ephron filed his defamation lawsuit against Mayers and Tacopina in 2023. He claimed the men unfairly branded him a liar and extortionist who was trying to shake down the “Sundress” rapper with the shooting claims. Mayers vehemently denied assaulting Ephron.

During Mayers’ three-week criminal trial, an eyewitness testified that Rocky only had a prop gun firing blanks the night of the confrontation. Jurors also heard a recording in which Ephron told an associate in 2022 that he was willing to “walk away” and hide from prosecutors on an island if Mayers paid him. They also heard Ephron demanded $30 million.

On Monday, Judge Hammock set an Oct. 23 hearing for the anti-SLAPP motion in the defamation case. He said Ephron had to file an opposition before then, whether he finds a new lawyer or not. Ephron also is suing Mayers for civil assault related to the 2021 confrontation. A trial in that case is set for January.

Related Content

“Rocky has done nothing wrong, and we’re looking forward to a decision,” Mayers’ civil lawyer James Sargent told Rolling Stone after the Monday hearing. He declined to say whether Mayers would be willing to strike a deal with Ephron to waive his right to attorneys fees in the defamation case.

In a filing last month, Mayers’ lawyers wrote that there’s “no question that the alleged statements made by [Tacopina] were done so in a public forum about an issue of public interest.”

“Mr. Mayers is a world-renowned artist who also happens to be in a romantic relationship with one of the most famous women in the world, Rihanna. There is an incredible public interest in Mr. Mayers. This point is underscored by the fact that numerous media publications sought out comments from Mr. Mayers, through Mr. Tacopina, upon both the initiation of criminal charges against him and the subsequent civil lawsuits filed by Plaintiff Terell Ephron,” the civil defense lawyers said. “The general public was incredibly interested in the allegations against Mr. Mayers and his opinion regarding their validity, or lack thereof. The interviews and statements given by Mr. Tacopina on behalf of Mr. Mayers, and himself, absolutely fall under the protection of the anti-SLAPP statute. As such, the defamation claims should be dismissed in their entirety.”

Mayers has long maintained his innocence in the face of Ephron’s claims. He did not testify in his own defense, but two other A$AP Mob members testified that his prop gun came from the set of the “D.M.B.” music video he shot with Rihanna in July 2021. The friends said the prop gun only fired blanks.

Trending Stories

When the jury returned its verdict, handing Mayers a resounding victory in his criminal case, the rapper and actor dove over a waist-high courtroom barrier to embrace Rihanna, who was seated in the front row. He then hugged Tacopina and addressed the jurors as they left the courtroom. “Thank you all for saving my life. Thank you. Thank you for making the right decision,” he said.
