Taylor Swift Donates $100,000 to Swiftie Battling Brain Cancer

Earlier this month, a woman named Katelynn Smoot shared a heartwarming video of her young daughter, who is battling cancer, watching the music video for Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia.” In the clip, little Lilah points at the screen and says, “That’s my friend!”

The video quickly went viral, with fans flooding Smoot’s @standwithlilah social media page with messages of love and support for Lilah, who is fighting an aggressive form of brain cancer. Just a few weeks later, on Friday, Lilah received a touching surprise from her “friend” Swift — a $100,000 donation to her GoFundMe for medical care, and a sweet message: “Sending the biggest hug to my friend, Lilah! Love, Taylor.”

The quiet donation from Swift, spotted by Swifties, has inspired other fans of the pop star to follow suit by contributing to the fundraiser, each in increments of $13, in honor of Swift’s favorite number. As of publication, the fundraiser has raised over $167,000 in donations from more than 2,000 people.

After the six-figure donation, Smoot shared a video of herself and Lilah dancing to “The Life of Ophelia,” reacting to the news and sharing their gratitude for Swift’s generosity. “Thank you beyond words, Taylor Swift. We can now just focus on being here with our girl. Truly, we are so grateful… You have no idea what this means to our family,” she captioned the post.

On the page, Smoot has shared her and her daughter’s love for Swift — and how she birthed a “little Swiftie” after attending the Eras Tour while pregnant with her. “Lilah’s name was originally going to be Willow,” Smoot explained in one video, referencing the Folklore favorite. “We were set on that name my whole pregnancy, but ultimately ended on Lilah.”

Trending Stories

On the GoFundMe, which has been running since Lilah started chemotherapy in March, Smoot explained baby Lilah was diagnosed with a “very rare aggressive form of brain cancer” earlier this year after suffering a seizure. An MRI found a stage 4 tumor, which was removed in March, and she has since been undergoing chemo. In an August update, the Smoots updated donors about the treatment.

“After [an MRI and LP], she will start 6 weeks of proton radiation, where our family will have to travel to [Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia] for her to receive,” they wrote. “We will be a few hundred miles away from home. All the donations we receive will help us with travel expenses and paying bills as we are still out of work while Lilah is in treatment.”

“My story is one about happiness – being easier to find once we realize we do not have forever to find it.” Apple TV has revealed the first official trailer for the documentary film titled Come See Me In The Good Light, made by the award-winning doc filmmaker Ryan White (also of The Case Against 8, Serena, Ask Dr. Ruth, Assassins, Good Night Oppy). This doc already won the prestigious “Festival Favorite Award” at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year – making it the favorite of ALL the films at the fest voted by the public. Come See Me In The Good Light is a poignant and unexpectedly funny love story about the poets Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley facing an incurable cancer diagnosis with joy, wit and an unshakable partnership. Through laughter and unwavering love, they transform pain into purpose, and mortality into a moving celebration of resilience. Sadly, Andrea Gibson passed away a few months back at age 49 of ovarian cancer, meaning this doc about her is now being released posthumously. Gibson was appointed as the Poet Laureate of Colorado in 2023. This moving film is not only about the struggles of dealing with cancer, it is also about poetry and hope and progress – and all the beauty that is found in this world thanks to real love.

As mentioned, the outlet noted that the singer died on October 14 in New York City. He was reportedly battling pancreatic cancer privately. Additionally, there are no known details about where he passed and whether he was in a hospital, at home, or with loved ones. Memorial details are not out yet. He has three surviving children, two sons and a daughter, from previous relationships.

Celebs & TSR Roomies React To Singer’s Passing

Twenty minutes after The Shade Room posted D’Angelo’s passing on Instagram, over 10,700 reactions poured into the comment section. Even celebrities shared their shock and condolences, from Nelly writing “Damn” to Joseline Hernandez sharing crying emojis and Porsha Williams opting for broken heart and praying emojis.

An Icon & Legend Gone Too Soon!

As the roomies clearly know, the singer wasn’t anyone to play with when it came to music. Born in Richmond, Virginia, he grew up playing music in the church, starting at age five with the piano, per PEOPLE.

Between cousins and later his brother, he had formed two bands by the time he was 16. That same year, he sang at the famous Apollo during amateur night. He lost but circled back the next year, ate down with the song ‘Rub You The Right Way’ and won first place. The money he won in that competition helped pay for the four-track recorder that later led to his 1995 debut album ‘Brown Sugar.’ Still considered a hit, the project got him four Grammy nods, peaked at #4 on the R&B albums chart, and went platinum in a year. And for most of us, ‘Brown Sugar’ also went triple-platinum in our mothers’, grandmothers’ and aunties’ living rooms!

A few years later, he dropped his sophomore album, ‘Voodoo.’ Not only did it dominate the charts, peaking at #1, but it also earned him three more Grammy nods. That time, he won two, including ‘Best R&B’ album.’ His 2014 album, ‘Black Messiah,’ earned him two more Grammys, marking a career total of four.

“Such a sad loss to the passing of D’Angelo,” DJ Premier wrote on X. “We [had] so many great times. Gonna miss you so much. Sleep peacefully.”

Raised in Richamond, Va., as the son of a Pentecostal preacher, D’Angelo struggled to reconcile his sexed-up musical persona with deeply embedded religious convictions. His 1995 debut, Brown Sugar, was an ode to weed and women, whose organic, throwback grooves owed more to the progressive mindset of late-’80s/early ’90s Native Tongues hip-hop than to the slick, digitized R&B of the day made by Boyz II Men and Keith Sweat.

Led by the provocative, nearly nude video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” 2000’s Voodoo was a very different story. It evolved from more than three years’ worth of sessions, mainly at New York’s Electric Lady Studios, and featured an impressive roster of soul, funk, and jazz players such as Roots drummer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, who became D’Angelo’s musical copilot, keyboardist James Poyser, guitarist Charlie Hunter and trumpeter Roy Hargrove.

“What was cool about it,” Thompson told SPIN in 2008, “was D had the A room [of the studio] on lockdown, and Common had the B room. Then Common brought [producer] Jay Dee inside, and next thing you know, both camps are working in each other’s studio.” Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli and Mos Def visited frequently, creating a ground zero for what Thompson called “a left-of-center” black music renaissance.”

The Roots Picnic set was to have been only D’Angelo’s second full concert since 2016. “Due to an unforeseen medical delay regarding surgery I had earlier this year, I’ve been advised by my team of specialist[s] that the performance this weekend could further complicate matters,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “It is nearly impossible to express how disappointed I am not to be able to play with my brothers the Roots. And even more disappointed not to see all of you.”

“I’m so thankful to my beautiful fans for continuing to rock with me and I thank you for your continued support,” he added. “I’m currently in the lab and I can’t wait to serve up what’s in the pot.”

Thompson was instrumental in coaxing D’Angelo to release the 2014 album Black Messiah after a nearly 15-year hiatus. The path to that project, and the aftermath of the success of Voodoo, were chronicled in the 2019 documentary Devil’s Pie: D’Angelo, directed by Dutch filmmaker Carine Bijlsma. It also addressed the artist’s struggles with substance abuse, the loss of family members, fame and his recovery from a major car accident.

“Black Messiah is both ancient and fresh — a surging mass of old blues and new soul built from classic thought and rebel spirit, unending angst and beautiful struggle, sunshine and moonlight and cynicism and sex and fighting and loving and losing and praying and cussing and hating and hoping,” SPIN wrote in its contemporary review of the album.

D’Angelo’s only on-stage appearances since concluding promo work behind Black Messiah were at a 2021 Verzuz show at New York’s Apollo Theater and at that year’s Tribeca Film Festival, plus an April 2022 cameo with Questlove and Raphael Saadiq while covering Sly & the Family Stone’s “Babies Makin’ Babies” during the Netflix Is a Joke festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Saadiq previously told Rolling Stone that D’Angelo was actively working on new music, but nothing has come to light beyond “I Want You Forever,” his Jay-Z-assisted contribution to last year’s The Book of Clarence soundtrack.

D’Angelo is survived by three children. The mother of his first son, fellow R&B singer Angie Stone, died in a car accident in March.

Cancer specialist warns how consuming too much dairy regularly may raise cancer risk: ‘People who consume…’

Dairy products are a common part of diets worldwide, often praised for their calcium and protein content. However, like many foods, moderation is key. Consuming certain dairy products excessively may pose health risks. Dr Sharmin Yaqin, M.D. (Oncology) and cancer prevention specialist based in Dubai, shared in her October 2 Instagram post how too much dairy could increase cancer risk and shares tips for making safer dietary choices. (Also read: Cancer specialist says adding these simple foods to your plate could naturally lower your risk of cancer: ‘Fruits and…’ )

Dairy products may heighten cancer risk, says oncology specialist Dr. Sharmin Yaqin. (Shutterstock)

How does dairy affect cancer risk

Dairy is a staple in many diets, but according to Dr Sharmin Yaqin, it may not be as harmless as it seems. She highlights the potential risks of consuming dairy, particularly its link to cancer.

“Dairy is an inflammatory food, and any products made from cow, buffalo, or goat milk are considered inflammatory. They cause inflammation, and inflammation plays a major role in cancer,” explains Dr Yaqin.

She stresses that this applies to everyone, regardless of whether a person currently has any illness. “Dairy impacts inflammation, so it should be avoided, whether or not someone has a medical condition,” Dr Yaqin adds.

Which dairy products are linked to prostate cancer

In particular, research has shown a connection between dairy consumption and prostate cancer. “For example, in the case of prostate cancer, studies indicate that people who consume dairy daily are at a higher risk. Whether it’s paneer, processed cheese, yoghurt, milk, or cream in any form, dairy can be harmful,” she says.

Dr Yaqin advises that being mindful of dairy intake and choosing anti-inflammatory alternatives can play a key role in reducing cancer risk and supporting overall health.

Diane Keaton, recognized for her iconic on-screen performances in various films, died on October 11, 2025, at the age of 79. She is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke. Her death appeared sudden to fans, most of whom wonder what happened to Keaton in her final days. Some weren’t aware of her health history with skin cancer, which the late Oscar winner opened up about in the past.

Below, Hollywood Life breaks down what we know about Diane’s health and the last few months of her life.

Did Diane Keaton Have Health Issues Before She Died?

Yes, Keaton previously battled skin cancer. The late Annie Hall star was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma when she was in her 20s and was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer years later. She underwent two surgeries to combat the second diagnosis, per the Los Angeles Times.

During a 2015 interview with the Times, the late Something’s Gotta Give actress noted that the illness ran in her family.

“It’s a family history,” she explained. “I remember my Auntie Martha had skin cancer so bad they removed her nose. My father had basal skin cancer, and my brother had it. It’s tricky with this skin cancer. That’s why you’ve got to put the sunblock on.”

Shortly after People broke the news of her death, the outlet reported that The Godfather star’s health had “declined very suddenly” during her final days.

“She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her,” a friend of Keaton’s told the publication. “It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”

The friend added that Keaton did not tell some of her friends about her condition during the last few months of her life.
