Hyderabad oncologist explains whether your daily deodorant habit could really cause cancer or if it’s just a myth

Worried your deodorant could cause cancer? Hyderabad oncologist Dr Saadvik Raghuram breaks down the science and explains why the risk is largely theoretical.

We all love starting our day fresh, right? A quick shower, a swipe of deodorant, and we’re good to go. But what if that everyday habit you barely think about could actually be putting you at risk? Dr Saadvik Raghuram, an oncologist based in Hyderabad, shares in his October 28 Instagram post that your deodorant habit could be a hidden cancer risk.

Dr. Raghuram reassures that everyday deodorant use is safe and not linked to cancer risk. (Freepik)

Could your deodorant cause hormonal changes

“Regular deodorants often contain chemicals like aluminium and parabens. When applied, these ingredients temporarily block sweat ducts. Some theories suggest that this blockage could trigger hormonal changes. Since deodorants are applied near the underarm, close to breast tissue, people have worried that this might increase the risk of breast cancer,” he says.

However, Dr Raghuram emphasises that this is largely a theoretical concern. “While the idea is often discussed, research and multiple studies have not found any solid evidence linking normal deodorant use to breast cancer or any other type of cancer. The risk remains theoretical, it hasn’t been proven in real life,” he clarifies.

Is there any link between deodorant and cancer

He adds that it’s natural to be cautious about the products we use, but everyday deodorant use is considered safe. “It’s always good to stay informed and read labels,” Dr Raghuram continues, “but there’s no reason to panic or stress over your deodorant. The science simply does not support a real cancer risk from standard use.”

In short, your daily swipe of deodorant is safe, and worrying unnecessarily can just add stress. Staying clean, confident, and informed is the real key, your deodorant isn’t the hidden culprit some make it out to be.

Drew Barrymore’s Brave Confession! Actress Reveals Frightening Breast Cancer Scare Experience | Glamsham.com

Actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore is speaking out after a recent health scare, where she says she underwent an emergency biopsy following a “bad mammogram.” She shared the story on The Drew Barrymore Show in a candid sit-down with comedian Tig Notaro. In 2012, Notaro had been diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer, and later did a double mastectomy in 2016. She sat down for a candid talk with Barrymore on cancer awareness and women’s health.

“This is something I’ve wanted to risk talking about on this show,” Barrymore said. “I recently had a scare. I’m completely fine, but I did get a bad mammogram. I was taken into that room, had an emergency biopsy, and then waited those five days.” The actress underlined the emotional toll of such waiting for the verdict and added that all this gave her a deeper appreciation for those who face such uncertainty regularly.

Barrymore was notably struck by Notaro’s new documentary Come See Me in the Good Light, which follows poets Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley as they make their way through life following Gibson’s terminal ovarian cancer diagnosis. She was quoted as saying of the film, “It gives such an intimate portrait of what the journey through cancer is like-not heavy, but full of confidence, courage, and humanity.”

The actress, who turned 50 this year, also spoke about embracing aging naturally. “I haven’t done anything and I want to try to stay that way,” she said. “But I also believe everyone should do what makes them happy. The only thing I know is not to judge others — we’re all on our own paths, and we should support each other.”

Fans have praised Barrymore’s honesty, saying the actress is using her platform to bring awareness about women’s health and self-acceptance.

Jessie J forced to cancel tour dates for further breast cancer surgery

Breast cancer has changed my world

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

4 November 2025

Jessie J’s “whole world has changed” since she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Jessie J’s life has been changed by her breast cancer diagnosis

The 37-year-old singer revealed in June that she had been diagnosed with the illness at an early stage and reflected on the implications it has had on her life in an emotional speech at the Music Industry Trust Awards.

Speaking at Monday’s (03.11.25) ceremony in London, Jessie said: “I know I joke a lot, I love to laugh, but in all seriousness, how beautiful is it that we make music?

“And we share it with the world and each and every one of us plays a part in making that wheel keep turning in a world that’s ever changing.

“All of us here are going through stuff in life that we have to carry to work and leave at home or take to work.

“This year has changed my whole world. My perspective, what battles I’m going to pick, when death comes knocking at your door, and you kind of have to answer and f****** kick it away, it just changes everything.”

The Price Tag hitmaker admitted last week that she was “frustrated” after her second breast cancer surgery was postponed – even though she had cancelled her US tour in order to have the procedure.

Jessie, who underwent a mastectomy in June in the wake of her diagnosis, said in an Instagram video: “Some of you may know, some of you may not know, I was supposed to have a second breast surgery two weeks ago.

“So a week before my surgery I went to my surgeon and we discussed my surgery and it felt a little more complex than he was anticipating and referred me to a different surgeon who I then saw, had a meeting with who said, I think this can wait a little while.

“Obviously I’d already cancelled my tour so I was obviously frustrated but again it’s out of my control and two different surgeons had two different opinions.”

The Domino singer had returned to the stage just weeks after her first operation to perform at BBC Radio 2 In The Park in her native Essex in September.

Jessie took the chance to open up about her health crisis, telling the audience: “Some of you may know, some of you may not know, but I had breast cancer surgery 11 weeks ago today.

“And the last show I did, I had no idea what was gonna happen, and I’m still very much in the recovery process…

“I’m just so grateful to be here, you have no idea how grateful I am to see so many of you singing along after all these years.

“It truly feels like I’m a little kid. Still doing what I love.”

Doctor who survived stage 4 breast cancer shares 5 powerful foods that can help your body fight cancer: From berries to…

You’ve probably heard the phrase “you are what you eat,” but it’s more real than you think. The right foods can actually help your body ward off serious diseases. From colourful veggies to everyday kitchen staples, some ingredients are loaded with cancer-fighting compounds.

Dr Mussallem reveals that specific foods, including soy and berries, can combat cancer risks.(Pexels)

Dr Dawn Mussallem, a double board-certified physician at Mayo Clinic and a stage 4 breast cancer survivor, shared in an October 23 podcast with American author Mel Robbins the top five foods that can help your body fight cancer and promote long-term wellness. (Also read: Fortis Delhi gastroenterologist says this superfruit ‘is a blessing for your heart’ )

1. Berries

“Research on berries is so exciting, both for breast cancer prevention and for survivors,” says Dr Mussallem. “For every two servings a week, they can reduce the risk of breast cancer, and for survivors, lower the risk of dying from it by 25%.”

2. Purple sweet potatoes

“These purple sweet potatoes have about 150% more anthocyanins than berries,” she explains. “These powerful compounds help turn off tumour genes and activate tumour suppressor genes, essentially putting the brakes on cancer growth.”

3. Cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts)

“These are some of the most powerful vegetables when it comes to breast cancer,” Dr Mussallem says. “They contain an enzyme called myrosinase, which helps the body absorb their cancer-fighting nutrients more effectively. They also help transform estrogen into a form that doesn’t stimulate cell growth.”

4. Beans and other fibre-rich plant foods

“This is an amazing plant protein and you’re not just getting protein, you’re getting fibre,” she notes. “A massive study with 17 million person-years of data showed that fibre can reduce the risk of dying from any cause, heart disease, and even pancreatic cancer. Another review found that fibre can cut overall cancer risk by 22%.”

According to Dr. Mussallem, certain foods such as soy and berries can significantly reduce cancer risks.(Google Gemini)

5. Soy and edamame

“There are very few foods that, if you ever got breast cancer, can actually reduce your risk of dying, and edamame is one of them,” says Dr Mussallem. “Soy is also protective for the prostate and may reduce the risk of lung cancer. The American Cancer Society’s 2022 report showed soy can lower the risk of breast cancer recurrence by 25%.”

Dr Mussallem concludes by reminding us that food truly is medicine. “All these colourful fruits and vegetables are full of phytonutrients that help the body heal. The body has such wisdom to repair itself, we just have to give it the right tools.”

When malignant cells grow uncontrollably in breast tissue, most commonly starting in the milk ducts or lobules, it can lead to breast cancer. Generally, symptoms of breast cancer include lumps.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), breast cancer is the most common cancer globally and in women worldwide, with an estimated 2.3 million new cases diagnosed in 2022. Therefore, women need to be aware of some crucial signs and symptoms, as early detection can save lives.

‘Self-examination saves lives’

Dr Tanaya, an Oxford University-trained doctor, trainee gynaecologist, and embryologist, also known as Dr Cuterus on Instagram, shared a video on October 28 where she talked about the 5 signs of breast cancer no woman should ignore.

Sharing the video, Dr Tanya wrote, “October is breast cancer awareness month. So, this month, why not promise yourself to take good care of your breasts? Every month, a week after your period, be sure to examine your boobs. Look for lumps, skin changes, discharge, or any sudden changes – If something seems wrong, see a doctor, because remember, self-breast examination saves lives.”

5 signs of breast cancer

Dr Tanya stressed that women should take the time to examine themselves, because though everyone has heard of lumps, there are other signs also that tell you about breast cancer. Furthermore, she advised women always to examine themselves after 1 week of their period.

Here are 5 signs, as per Dr Tanya, that you should be aware of regarding breast cancer.

1. No discharge from your nipples: Dr Tanya highlighted that if there is some discharge from your nipples, it could be an alarming sign, and you should be getting checked by an expert.

2. No sudden colour changes: There should not be any sudden colour changes in the skin, along with sudden redness and swelling.

3. No texture: Dr Tanya also stressed that there shouldn’t be any texture range on the skin of your breasts. In medical terms, it is known as the ‘peau d’orange’ sign, which is described as a skin texture change characterised by dimpling and thickening, resembling the skin of an orange.

4. No growth: Any new growth, lump, or any sudden changes in the nipples are alarming signs and should be checked by an expert.

5. Check your ABCs: Naming armpits, breasts, and collarbones as ABCs, Dr Tanya stressed that you should check your armpit and your collarbones for any lumps or sudden changes. “You should check your ABCs while examining yourself for breast cancer. If there are any new changes, before googling it, consult your doctor.”

Cancer surgeon shares what average age of breast cancer patients in India is: Shockingly, 15% cases occur in women…

by jummy84 October 28, 2025

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer caused an estimated 670 000 deaths globally in 2022, making this an important disease to be aware of. Dr Sudipto De, an oncologist is sounding the alarm: breast cancer is no longer a disease exclusive to women over 50. Also read | Oncologist shares 6 questions to ask your doctor after an early breast cancer diagnosis

Dr Sudipto De shared that genetic mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2, family history, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, stress, and delayed childbearing are contributing factors to the breast cancer cases in India.(Pexel)

In a recent Instagram post, he shared a stark reality: the average age for breast cancer in India is 45, and cases among women in their 20s and 30s are on the rise. Dr De, who practices at Metro Heart Institute with Multispecialty, Faridabad, highlighted this in an October 27 Instagram post, writing, “Even young women in their 30s can get breast cancer. Awareness can save lives.”

Alarming breast cancer statistics

In the video he posted, Dr De discussed the occurrence of breast cancer in younger women, challenging the common association of the disease primarily with those over 50. He further explained that risk factors for this younger onset include genetic mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2, family history, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, stress, and delaying marriage and childbearing.

According to Dr De, “Breast Cancer in young women is on the rise — even in their 20s and 30s. Nearly 15-20 percent of all cases in India occur under the age of 40. Why? Genetic causes like BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, family history of breast or ovarian cancer, lifestyle factors: obesity, lack of exercise, alcohol, stress, delayed childbirth or no breastfeeding.”

Know your breast cancer risk, take action

What can you do? To combat this higher risk, Dr De urged women to understand their family history, consult with doctors for genetic counseling and testing, and begin earlier screenings if necessary.

He said you should:

⦿ Be aware of your body and any new changes

⦿ If you have a family history, ask about genetic counselling

⦿ Maintain a healthy lifestyle and regular check-ups

According to Dr De, earlier detection through screening is the key to catching symptoms early and ensuring aggressive treatment that leads to favourable long-term outcomes. He concluded, “Early detection saves lives. Even aggressive cancers in young women are curable when detected early. Share this to spread awareness — someone younger than you might need to hear it.”

In the video he posted, Dr De said, “Can breast cancer happen in young people? People mostly associate breast cancer with those who are above the age of 50. But the average age of breast cancer in India is lower. It is 45. And here we are also seeing patients who are in their 30s and 20s. Around 15 to 20 percent of the cases we are seeing today are found below the age of 40.”

“But what is the good news? If you get screened sooner, your symptoms are caught very early, and your breast cancer is also detected in the early stages. Because of this, we are able to make your treatment more aggressive and can give you very good long-term results. So yes, breast cancer can happen in young people too. Know your risk, get screening done, and do not ignore any new changes,” he said.

An uncontrolled growth of cells in the colon or rectum leads to colon cancer. Also known as colorectal cancer, it typically affects older adults, though it can happen at any age. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in 2020, more than 1.9 million new cases and more than 930,000 deaths were estimated to have occurred globally.

According to Dr Sethi, eating a healthy diet can reduce your risk of colon cancer. (Freepik)

Therefore, colon cancer requires as much of our attention as any other type of cancer. WHO says that the colon cancer risk can be reduced with regular screenings, staying physically active, not smoking tobacco, and limiting alcohol. However, your diet also plays a major role.

10 foods that can quietly protect you from colon cancer

Dr Saurabh Sethi, MD, MPH, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford Universities, stressed that eating a healthy diet can reduce your risk of colon cancer. In an Instagram post shared on October 25, titled ‘10 Foods That Can Quietly Protect You From Colon Cancer’, the expert listed foods you should include in your daily diet to protect your colon.

Here are the foods he suggested in the video:

  1. Beans and lentils
  2. Broccoli and cruciferous veggies
  3. Berries
  4. Oats, barley, and quinoa
  5. Leafy greens
  6. Garlic
  7. Onions
  8. Tomatoes
  9. Yoghurt and fermented foods
  10. Nuts and seeds

8 warning signs of colon cancer

While improving your diet to reduce the risk of colon cancer is one of the most essential steps, it is also important to know the signs because most colon cancers start silently.

In an October 10 Instagram post, Dr Sethi highlighted 8 warning signs one should look out for to detect colon cancer early, such as persistent bowel changes, constant fatigue, unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain or cramping, and more. According to the gastroenterologist, when caught early, there is a 90 percent chance of survival five years after the diagnosis. Learn more signs here.

Christiane Amanpour Reveals Ovarian Cancer Return

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Four years after she was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Christiane Amanpour is optimistic about her latest bout with the disease.

After being off the air for the past month, the CNN anchor recently revealed the return of her cancer in a “fairly rare” form, encouraging other women to “listen to your body” and get checked out.

“I have it again, but it’s being very well-managed, and this is one of the whole things that people have to understand about some cancers,” she said on the Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story podcast.

“I decided when I got back in front of the camera after four weeks — which included the surgery and a couple of weeks of recuperation before I started chemotherapy — I decided to say something because I actually wanted to do a service,” added Amanpour. “Not just to my viewers, but also to those who might be in a similar situation. And I wanted to say what had happened to me. And I wanted to say listen to your body because part of the reason I got such quick care was because I listened to my body and went straight to the doctors.”

Accompanied by gynecology oncology consultant Dr. Angela George, Amanpour explained that her current cancer has been diagnosed as “stage 1/2,” meaning it’s in its first stage but had “adhered to my pelvis.”

“Angela told me what it was and why I was potentially lucky because there were actually pain symptoms,” explained Amanpour. “There’s often no symptoms so many women don’t know, so I feel that I was lucky.”

Amanpour’s health update comes after she was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, noting at the time that she had undergone successful surgery to remove it, followed by several months of chemotherapy.

Taylor Swift Donates $100K to Young Fan With Brain Cancer

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Taylor Swift is keeping her giving streak going by donating a life-changing chunk of change to Lilah, a 2-year-old Swiftie who’s battling brain cancer.

The pop star quietly contributed $100k to a GoFundMe page raising money for the toddler and her family as Lilah undergoes treatment for “a very rare aggressive form of brain cancer” with only “58 documented cases in the U.S. last year,” according to the fundraiser’s description. Shortly before she received the diagnosis, doctors had removed a mass that turned out to be a stage 4 tumor in her brain.

Along with her donation, Swift wrote, “Sending the biggest hug to my friend, Lilah! Love, Taylor.”

After noticing that the 14-time Grammy winner had donated, a wave of Swifties also joined the cause, leaving $13 contributions and adding supportive messages to Lilah inspired by Swift’s lyrics. “We protect the family,” one person wrote, quoting the singer’s The Life of a Showgirl track “Father Figure.”

“Lilah – Keep dancing through the lightning strikes until your sky is opalite!” another donor commented, referencing Showgirl‘s “Opalite.” “All of us Swifties are [rooting] for you.”

What makes the outpouring of love for Lilah even sweeter is how the little girl’s mom, Katelynn, has previously posted about how much her daughter loves Swift. “Lilah loves Taylor’s music and during her cancer treatment she always found joy in it,” Katelynn wrote on TikTok earlier in October, noting that Lilah thinks of Swift as her “friend.”

Swift is known for shelling out donations to people in need, and in June, she visited patients in a children’s hospital in Florida. Lilah’s treatment also isn’t the first cause the Eras Tour headliner has inspired fans to support. This past month, Swifties helped raise $2 million for the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s otter conservation efforts after Swift sported one of the organization’s vintage T-shirts.
