Welcome to Derry’ Premiere Ratings Score Big for HBO

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

The premiere of IT: Welcome to Derry enticed a lot of viewers back into Pennywise’s clutches.

The HBO series debuted to 5.7 million cross-platform viewers (measured over three days), making Welcome to Derry the third biggest series debut in HBO’s history. It trails only the premieres of House of the Dragon — which had nearly 10 million day-one viewers in 2022 — and The Last of Us, which opened with 4.7 million on its first night in 2023 and moved well past 5.7 million in following the three days.

IT: Welcome to Derry is a prequel to the It movies, which are based on Stephen King’s novel. The show is set in Derry, Maine, in the early 1960s — during one of the “cycles” in which the shape-shifting killer clown Pennywise resurfaces to wreak havoc.

The premiere ends with a shocking bit of violence that upends the way the two movies unfolded — purposely, IT filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti told The Hollywood Reporter (spoilers contained in that link). “We did two movies already. One thing that we didn’t want was to — given that we’re using the same tone and the style as the movies — get people too familiar [with the story mechanics]. We really wanted to create a subversion to get people excited. It has to do also with raising the volume a little in terms of intensity and spectacle.”

As is almost always the case with HBO shows in recent years, the vast majority of Welcome to Derry’s 5.7 million viewers watched the show after its on-air premiere. Nielsen figures have the first airing of the show on HBO at just 334,000 viewers (which is itself up from the 214,000 for Task’s debut in September), meaning that about 94 percent of the total audience came from streaming on HBO Max and on-air replays at HBO.

Is African Beauty the Next Big Global Trend?

by jummy84 October 27, 2025
written by jummy84

The world is waking up to the properties of these botanicals. The global market for moringa, for example — one of Africa’s most popular ingredients — is projected to reach $25.1 billion by 2035, up from $9.7 billion in 2024, according to US-based market research firm Spherical Insights. Cosmetics and personal care is one of the main application segments, underscoring the appetite for plant-based actives from the continent.

African botanicals have been used locally for generations, but the key opportunity for S’Able Labs lies in marrying natural products with cutting-edge skincare formulations to target a broader audience. “Where A-beauty is so well placed is in taking [traditional ingredients] to another level,” she says. “I want to see oat amino acids combined with kaolin clay, or black seed oil with vitamin C and ferulic acid.”

Among the more established players in the A-beauty space is RandR Skincare, founded by Valerie Obaze in Nigeria, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. The brand reimagined shea butter — traditionally sold solid — into a liquid format for ease of use and presented it in ways Obaze describes as “modern and desirable”.

For Obaze, what differentiates A-beauty is its approach to production and community. Many manufacturers of natural ingredients on the continent, particularly in West Africa, operate as cooperatives. RandR purchases from them at a fair price and provides training and financial literacy support to the women involved in production.

Liha Beauty’s core ingredients, including ivory and gold shea butters, are also sourced from cooperatives in Nigeria and Ghana, where the brand says it has built long-term relationships with women-led producers. “These partnerships ensure fair trade and maintain the traditional handcrafting methods that preserve the purity of the shea,” says co-founder Janita Brock.

A-beauty at scale

Scaling is the primary hurdle for A-beauty to reach the same global prominence as K-beauty and J-beauty. Many brands that use ingredients sourced from Africa rely on artisanal or cooperative-based ingredient production, but logistics, export costs and inconsistent infrastructure slow regional trade. Africa’s Continental Free Trade Agreement was designed to ease barriers to intra-continental trade by standardising tariffs. But in reality, implementation has been uneven across the countries that ratified it.

Can Olivia Dean or Kid Cudi Make Big Moves on the Billboard Charts?

by jummy84 October 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Our Billboard chart experts break down whether Olivia Dean’s “So Easy (To Fall In Love),” Kid Cudi’s “Maui Wowie” or Tame Impala’s “Dracula” make moves on the Billboard charts.

Jerah Milligan

‘The Life of a Show Girl,’ “Golden” and “Ordinary” still may be dominating our top 10, but who’s in the mix on the hot 100 this week? Could the resurfacing of Kid Cudi’s classic bring this old song to the charts? Is Olivia Dean stealing people’s hearts and staying on repeat, or will Tame Impala’s new music be a  moment? We’re giving you the rundown on some of the contenders on This Week’s Hot 100 this “Maui Wowie” trend is taking over the internet. Will the song make its debut on the charts 17 years after it first was released?

Treavor Anderson

Kid Cudi’s “Maui Wowie,” which debuts this week in the 70s, really blowing up on TikTok. This is a song from 2008 by the way. So it’s our first time actually seeing Kid Cudion the Hot 100 in a lead role since 2020 so welcome back to the chart, Cudi. But this trend is going crazy. This song is blowing up, so that’s something to watch out for as the streams keep going up, that song could really be a big hit for him.

Jerah Milligan

It’s so easy to fall in love with Olivia Dean that we may see her climb,

Delisa Shannon

Based off of my streams alone, that one is going to have an uptick on the charts. Everyone is excited about Olivia Dean’s ‘The Art of Loving.’ She has this ability with the way that she arranges, her melodies, her vocals. Everyone is excited, myself included.

Alia Bhatt & Chamunda: The Mystery Unfolds! Amar Kaushik’s BIG Statement! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

Alia Bhatt continues to dominate Bollywood with an impressive lineup of upcoming projects. After Jigra, the actress is gearing up for YRF’s spy thriller Alpha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War. Now, reports suggest that Alia might soon collaborate with producer Dinesh Vijan for Chamunda, a new addition to Maddock Films’ expanding Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU).

Director Amar Kaushik, who has helmed several MHCU films, recently addressed the speculation in an interview with Filmfare. He said, “When it happens, everyone will know. I’m not denying or accepting anything right now. We focus on the story first and think about casting later. Thankfully, we don’t write scripts based on actors.” He added that the team strives to maintain honesty in filmmaking: “We make films for the audience. If we make a mistake, tell us on Instagram or anywhere else. We just want to keep it pure, like our first film, Stree.”

According to a Pinkvilla report, Alia is enthusiastic about partnering with Maddock for the project. A source revealed, “Alia has been in talks with Dinesh Vijan for a while. She’s loved a psychological supernatural thriller, which could be her next after Love And War. Talks are on, and things may be finalized by early 2025.”

Earlier reports also suggested that Shah Rukh Khan was approached for Chamunda alongside Alia. However, Bollywood Hungama reported that the actor declined, as he preferred to start a new cinematic universe with Maddock and Kaushik instead of joining an existing one.

Meanwhile, the latest MHCU film Thamma, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, recently hit theatres. The film introduced Aneet Padda as Shakti Shalini, replacing Kiara Advani in the role.

Hit-Boy, Alchemist, Big L, Nas, Megan Thee Stallion

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Mac Miller, Young Thug, VisionPlay, Moneybagg Yo & G Herbo, BabyChiefDoIt, and more stars also dropped new tunes.

Today is Friday, which means there are a ton of new releases to look forward to from some of your favorite Hip-Hop artists. To help you unwind and enjoy the weekend, check out VIBE’s picks of songs and albums you should hear and add to your soundtrack of weekend festivities.

  • Hit-Boy, The Alchemist – ‘GOLDFISH’

With GOLDFISH, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist prove that Theodore & Andre was only the opening act for something more ambitious. The new full-length builds on that foundation with a sharper focus on dual artistry — two producer-turned-rappers who refuse to treat the mic as a novelty.

From the introspective “Celebration Moments,” where Alchemist declares, “Was once a student, my job is now to teach,” to Hit-Boy’s tightly wound bars on “Business Merger,” every verse feels deliberate, not decorative.

Conway the Machine’s fiery guest turn on “Mick & Cooley” adds an East Coast edge, while Boldy James and Big Hit help round out a lineup that feels both familial and formidable.

Supported by the Isaac Garcia–directed video for “Ricky” and Abteen Bagheri’s cinematic GOLDFISH short film, the album expands beyond music into a fully realized vision.

In an era where producers increasingly try their hand at rapping, Hit-Boy and Alchemist stand apart — treating the craft not as a side hustle, but as an art form with purpose and precision. “Two of the best on the coast of the West,” indeed – Preezy Brown

  • Big L Featuring Nas – “U Ain’t Gotta Chance”

Big L Featuring Nas - "U Ain't Gotta Chance" Cover ArtBig L Featuring Nas - "U Ain't Gotta Chance" Cover Art

“U Ain’t Gotta Chance,” the lead single from Harlem’s Finest: Return of the King, is nothing short of a lyrical epic — a collision of two masters at their sharpest.

Over haunting, cinematic production from G Koop, 2one2, Al Hug, and Mike H, Big L’s venomous bars — “139 is where I’m from, bro… findin’ you with shells from my 9 in you” — crackle with that unmistakable Harlem grit.

Nas matches the energy with cerebral precision, weaving legacy and business acumen into his verse, rhyming, “I’m the first in rap to form a venture cap’… My voice a needle in wax, gets the Devil attacked.”

The result is a track that feels timeless — both a tribute to hip-hop’s golden age and proof that L was years ahead of his era.

With Harlem’s Finest dropping on Oct. 31, the date feels poetic: Halloween for a rapper who made horrific acts and the ills of urban decay sound like art.

  • Megan Thee Stallion – “Lover Girl”

Megan Thee Stallion - "Lover Girl" Cover ArtMegan Thee Stallion - "Lover Girl" Cover Art

Megan Thee Stallion slides back into solo mode with “Lover Girl,” a sultry, hypnotic groove that reimagines Total’s 1996 R&B classic “Kissin You” through her signature Houston flair.

Produced by Jacobdior, the track folds in bounce-heavy energy from HaSizzle’s “Bounce It” and silky vocal textures from BJ So Cole, creating a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh. Meg leans fully into her sensual side here — confident, playful, and effortlessly magnetic.

Following April’s “Whenever,” “Lover Girl” feels like a smooth, slow-burn reminder of why The Hotties stay devoted: Megan knows how to make heat sound like honey. – PB
