South Park Goes on a Ketamine Bender to Thrash Silicon Valley

by jummy84 August 21, 2025

Warning: Spoilers ahead

While previews of the new episode of South Park showed Towelie heading east to Washington DC, for most of “Sickofancy” the show looked to the west, mocking the egotistical founders and ketamine parties of Silicon Valley.

“Sickofancy” kicked off with another ICE raid, this one among the marijuana crops of the Marsh family’s Tegridy Farms. Only one employee remained: Towelie. Randy and Towelie turned to ChatGPT to help, and wouldn’t you know it, the AI thought all of their ideas were spectacular.

Some of the best early jokes play off the contrast between the way Randy talks to ChatGPT and the way he interacts with his wife. But things really got going as the plan to save the business turned into a LinkedIn fever dream. Tegridy Farms became Techridy Farms, and before long Randy and Towelie were listing buzzwords and microdosing ketamine. And to think, all they have to do is restrict themselves to a microdose! As Towelie put it, “This is going to be easy.”

Meanwhile, the B-plot found business titans and foreign leaders simping for President Trump. As he did in real life, Apple’s Tim Cook presented Trump with glass-and-gold plaque, alongside assurances that the President does not have a small penis. Other IRL bribes also made appearances, including the Qatari government’s definitely-not-bugged Air Force One, and Mark Zuckerburg showed up, too. As we can only assume happened in real life, every one of these rich dignitaries praised Trump’s wee-wee.

But as longtime viewers might have guessed, not even the South Park version of Donald Trump is as exciting as Randy Marsh on a mission. ChatGPT, ketamine, ChatGPT, ketamine: “Sickofancy” mocks both addictions, but saves most of its scorn for the AI. I don’t know to what extent Trey Parker and Matt Stone used ChatGPT for this episode, but the LLM’s business acumen felt realistically stupid, not exaggerated. It’s already programmed to kiss your ass, and if it’s willing to tell you that your dream of selling salads made of french fries is wonderfully exciting and sure to succeed, do the writers even need to write a joke?

Eventually, the big plan is revealed: To save the business, Tegridy just has to sell to more customers. To sell to more customers, all Randy and Towelie have to do is make sure that marijuana is legal in every US state. Easy! Higher than usual, Towelie packed off for Washington DC to tell the President, where he joined a line of dignitaries offering bribes. With a Star Wars reference, Towelie himself was taken by Trump as a gift, to meet a grisly fate

Unfortunately, Randy kicked his ketamine habit before the episode could circle around to Silicon Valley’s No. 1 ketamine plug, but maybe Elon Musk will make an appearance later. Besides, “Sickofancy” had enough plot for half a season of Yellowstone: The episode ended with the Marshes leaving Tegridy Farm, which they had occupied since 2018.

And then there’s Satan. Before the credits rolled, the Dark Lord (who had been unsuccessfully using ChatGPT to get out of a toxic relationship) discovered Towelie in the bathroom covered in white stains. Their final interaction was more ominous than funny, and while Satan has been a minor character throughout Season 27, “Sickofancy” hinted at a bigger role for him to play. As South Park would have it, Donald Trump’s White House is worse than hell.

“Sickofancy” was less political than the last episode’s satire of ICE and Kristi Noem, let alone the genuinely shocking season premiere. But sometimes it’s nice to take a break from politics and do some ketamine. Elon Musk would probably agree.

Everybody “Scream”: Florence + The Machine Ready New LP

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

As tipped here last week, Florence + the Machine will return with a new album, Everybody Scream, appropriately due for release by Republic on Halloween (Oct. 31). The project’s title track is out now in tandem with a video directed by Autumn De Wilde.

The Florence Welch-led group previously teased a clip of the video in which the vocalist, clad in a red dress, digs a hole in a windy, desolate soundscape and screams upon seeing what’s inside. Everybody Scream was written and produced with assistance from IDLES’ Mark Bowen (who also cameos in the video), the National’s Aaron Dessner and Mitski. Bowen previously teamed with Welch to co-produce a cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” fo the second season of the grunge era-set Showtime series Yellowjackets.

Per a statement, the follow-up to 2022’s Dance Fever “treads through womanhood, partnership, aging and dying [and] exposing the murky in the mundane.”

Florence + the Machine have been off the road for almost a year following the September 2024 performance of their 2009 debut, Lungs, with orchestra at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Welch was onstage in June at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival for a surprise performance with the Maccabees.

Tamar Braxton Describes Shocking Near-Death Experience

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Tamar Braxton revealed graphic details of a recent near-death experience. The R&B singer took to social media to share that she “almost died” on Sunday. After the incident, the Maryland native has shifted her outlook and launched her “mental health” journey.

“I struggled to write this but everyone keeps calling me and honestly, I can’t even really talk anymore. I’m so weak,” explained the 48-year-old. “I almost died Sunday. I was found in a pool of blood from my friend with a face injury. As the days go by, the worse it is.”

“I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility. The way I look at life now is totally different. As my health is on the mend my mental journey begins.. pray for me for real. I don’t even know what happened to me.”

While the reality star did not explicitly share a diagnosis or treatment plan, she has previously been open about her mental and physical health in the past. According to Deadline, in 2022, the singer publicly shared that she had been hospitalized for the flu.

In 2021, she survived a suicide attempt after what she described being “betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid.”

“Mental illness is real,” the youngest Braxton sister elaborated at the time. “We must normalize acknowledging it and stop associating it with shame and humiliation. The pain that I have experienced over the past 11 years has slowly ate away at my spirit and my mental. I will do everything in my power to aid those who [suffer] from mental illness, including those of us who’s mental illness was only a result from the toxic, systematic bondage that dwells [in] television. It was only God’s grace and his mercy on my attempt to end my pained life that I am here to utilize my voice.”

VIBE has reached out to a representative for Tamar Braxton for an official statement and wishes her a peaceful recovery.

Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards says trauma left her “a wreck” after losing baby at 24 weeks

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards has opened up about the trauma she felt after losing a baby at 24 weeks.

The singer spoke openly for the first time about the miscarriage during a recent appearance on Paul C Brunson’s podcast, We Need To Talk. In the interview, she revealed that she became pregnant just under a year after giving birth to her first child, Axel, in August 2021.

However, when she went for a scan at the five-month mark, she and her partner, former Liverpool footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, discovered that the baby’s heart had stopped beating.

Describing it as the “worst day of my life”, she said: “I remember sobbing. I couldn’t see straight. I was just distraught. We basically lost the baby at, like, 24 weeks.”

She added that the scan felt like “an out of body experience”, and the doctor’s words only began to sink in when Oxlade-Chamberlain “put his hand on my leg and went, ‘Oh no’.”

Her son, Axel, turns four this week, and in the podcast appearance, Edwards also revealed that he was a “rainbow baby” – a term used to describe a child born to a mother who recently lost another child to stillbirth, neonatal death or miscarriage.

“I had a miscarriage very early on with my first ever pregnancy,” she told the host. “I remember finding out I was pregnant [but] I started bleeding not long after, and I went to hospital and I had the scan and they were like, ‘There’s no baby.’

“I was like, ‘Oh, I’ve made this up. Maybe I got a false positive or something.’”

She added that after feeling a sense of confusion around the situation, she booked an appointment with her gynaecologist, who informed her that it was indeed a miscarriage.

The news, she said, was still distressing, but to a lesser extent than the second miscarriage as it came early on during the pregnancy.

“I think because it was so early, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s sad.’ But I think when you’re fully carrying and you’re 24 weeks and you’ve planned out their room and all these things, it’s really hard,” she shared. “I’ve never spoken about it before because I ended up a wreck, and nobody knows other than immediate friends and family.”

Also in the interview, the singer revealed that she had found comfort from Myleene Klass, who was awarded an MBE for her long-running work to increase awareness about miscarriages.

She recalled hearing Klass once say that “the baby stays with” the mother after a miscarriage, and finding the statement “magical” and comforting. “I was like, ‘If I’m blessed enough to have another baby in the future, it makes me feel that they’re still a part of it in some way’.”

As highlighted by BBC, one in five pregnancies in the UK end in miscarriage, and there are approximately 2,000 terminations following a prenatal screening every year.

In 2024, the Department of Health and Social Care announced a series of new measures to provide more awareness, care and support for those who suffer the loss of an unborn child.

L.A. Reid Loses Lawyers Ahead of Sexual Assault Trial

L.A. Reid Loses Lawyers Ahead of Sexual Assault Trial

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

With less than two weeks to go before his trial on claims he sexually assaulted former Arista A&R executive Drew Dixon, music mogul Antonio “L.A.” Reid is effectively representing himself, a federal judge confirmed Tuesday during a status conference in the New York-based civil case.

At the end of the 30-minute video hearing, U.S. District Judge Jeannette A. Vargas referred to Reid as “pro se,” meaning a party moving forward without an attorney. The comment came after the judge granted a renewed request by Reid’s lawyers to be relieved “unconditionally.” In filings, the lawyers previously told the court that Reid — who helmed Arista, Island Def Jam, and Epic Records during his heyday — hadn’t paid them since February. They said while it’s true Reid owns a mansion in Los Angeles’ ritzy Bel-Air neighborhood, he hasn’t been able to sell it, even after slashing the price by several million dollars.

During the hearing, the outgoing lawyers from the prominent California-based firm Kinsella Holley Iser Kump Steinsapir LLP promised to work with any new attorneys hired by Reid, to help them “get up to speed.” They also promised to “facilitate” ongoing communication between Reid’s business managers and Dixon’s legal team. (The judge previously asked the lawyers to stick around to handle discovery issues leading up to an Aug. 25 status conference.)

“If he does not obtain counsel, what is his current intention, with respect to the final pre-trial conference?” Judge Vargas asked Tuesday, referring to the Aug. 25 hearing. She warned that Reid’s “failure to appear could result in default.”

The lawyers said Reid was on notice that he was required to appear himself if he did not have counsel. Judge Vargas also asked the lawyers to supply Reid’s personal phone number and home address to court staff. In a minute order after the hearing, she again referred to the Sept. 8 trial date as “firm.”

In her 2023 lawsuit, Dixon alleged that Reid started sexually harassing her “almost immediately” after he assumed the CEO role at Arista in 2000. She said the harassment turned physical when Reid allegedly cornered her on a private plane in 2001, forcibly kissed her, and “digitally penetrated her vulva without her consent.”

Editor’s picks

Dixon alleged Reid attacked her again a few months later, forcibly kissing and groping her in the back of a private car with his driver present. She claimed Reid retaliated when she spurned his advances, blowing off potential artists she brought to Arista Records for auditions, including a young Kanye West and Grammy-winner John Legend.

Trending Stories

“Reid adamantly denies the allegations,” his lawyers wrote in a court filing last May. They argued that while the Adult Survivors Act made it possible for Dixon to revive her decades-old claim of sexual assault, her claims of lost commissions related to West and Legend were beyond the statute of limitations.

In a ruling two weeks ago, Judge Vargas said Dixon would not be barred from at least seeking lost commissions if she did so under a cause of action covered by the revival statute. The judge said it wasn’t clear if Dixon would succeed. “Whether the loss of commissions can be fairly traced to any of the asserted causes of actions under traditional principles of causation has not been adequately addressed by the parties,” she wrote in her ruling.

Gina Michelle DeBose Dies at 57

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Ariana DeBose is mourning the death of her mother, Gina Michelle DeBose, who died on Aug. 17 at age 57 after battling Stage 3 ovarian cancer.

In a touching post on Instagram on Tuesday (Aug. 19), DeBose wrote: “At 10:28 am on August 17th my gorgeous, hilarious, outspoken, warrior queen Mother – Gina Michelle DeBose – passed away due to complications with stage 3 ovarian cancer. I couldn’t be more proud of her and how she fought this insidious disease over the past 3 years. She was 57 years young.

“She was my favorite person, my biggest fan and toughest critic. My best friend. She was my date to every important moment in my professional and personal life – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It had always been the two of us for as long as I can remember. Through lean times, and there were many of those & green times. She fought like hell to give me a good life, a good education and every opportunity in the world. I wouldn’t be where I am without her. I meant it when I said my Oscar “is just as much hers as it is mine.”

DeBose did say that when she won an Oscar for best supporting actress in 2022 for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s reboot of West Side Story. “I’m gonna wrap this up and talk about my family. My mother, who is here tonight. Mama, I love you with my whole heart, and this is as much yours as it is mine.”

DeBose had earlier received a Tony nomination for playing “Disco Donna” in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical in 2018. She also hosted the Tony Awards three years running from 2022-24. She was the first person of color to host three times in the show’s history, which dates to 1947.

In her post, Ariana DeBose, 34, said her mom’s “life’s purpose, aside from being my mom, was educating young people. She passed just shy of delivering 30 years of service as a public school teacher (most currently 8th grade social studies). And, my god, did she thrive in a classroom. Her creativity knew no bounds. She was beloved and incredibly respected by her colleagues and students alike.”

DeBose concluded her salute by saying: “For the record: my greatest and most proud achievement will always be to have made her proud. I love you mommy. Now travel amongst the seas, the winds and the angels as I know you always loved to do.”

I “Bawled My Eyes Out for Hours” Upon Learning of Ozzy Osbourne’s Death

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford was extremely saddened to learn of Ozzy Osbourne’s passing, revealing, “I just curled up in a ball and bawled my eyes out for hours.”

The singer spoke about his reaction to Ozzy’s death in a new interview with Detroit radio station WRIF (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), recalling, “Oh, man. I got a call the day [Ozzy’s death] happened. I just put the phone down in my hotel room in — I think I was in Leeds, in England, and I just curled up in a ball and bawled my eyes out for hours. I just couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it now. I’m still grieving, like so many people.”

He continued, “And then we had a show the next day. So, God, how do you process all of this tragedy, all of this love, because I’ve never seen such an outpouring of love. And we did the show and we came to the song that we’ll be playing when we come to see you guys — it’s called ‘Giants in the Sky,’ from the Invincible Shield album — and that song talks about people that we love in music that have moved on to this beautiful place. We reference Lemmy and Ronnie [James Dio] and Paul Di’Anno [of Iron Maiden] and Jill [Janus from] Huntress and Chris [Cornell] and all of these greats, Janis Joplin, Freddie Mercury. And then for that show we added Ozzy at the end.”

Halford added, “And I said to everybody, this just so much to try and comprehend and so tough, but Ozzy would say, ‘Let’s party. Let’s rock and roll. Let’s live it up. Let’s enjoy.’ That was in his heart, his soul, and his spirit.”

The Judas Priest singer further stated that it was important to preserve the legacies of artists like Ozzy and others. “”So it’s great that we are talking about him now and we should keep talking about him forever, like I always talk about Ronnie, I talk about Lemmy,” Halford said. “These are all friends of mine. And we have to celebrate — we have to celebrate. That’s the way of helping you through the grief. You think about the memories, you think about the joy, you think about the good times, and that’s what we will always do with Ozzy.”

Judas Priest were invited to take part in the “Back to the Beginning” concert featuring the final performances of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, but had already committed to playing Scorpions’ 60th anniversary show on that same day. In lieu of their absence at the historic event, the band recorded a cover of Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

“We used to text occasionally,” said Halford of his interactions with Ozzy. “‘Cause he’s another guy I was in awe of. I’m still in awe of Alice [Cooper]. [Laughs] ‘Oh my God. He’s Alice Cooper.’ And I used to feel the same whenever I was in Ozzy’s presence, because he had this larger-than-life personality. It’d been a while since we’ve been in touch. But, again, I just have the wonderful memories of the two opportunities I was able to sing for him with Sabbath. And then this recent opportunity to cover ‘War Pigs,’ which we still play at the start of our show, which is one of the greatest metal songs ever written. So that connection will never be severed in that respect.”

Halford famously stepped in to front Black Sabbath at a show on Ozzfest 2004 when Ozzy had bronchitis. He also fronted Sabbath for a couple shows in 1992 when then-Sabbath-singer Ronnie James Dio refused to open for Ozzy.

Judas Priest are set to embark on a co-headlining North American tour with Alice Cooper this fall, with tickets vailable here. Watch Rob Halford’s interview with WRIF below.

Wham Bam, Thank You Glam!

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

The modern glam rock resurgence can be attributed to a few bands, though it was The Darkness in the early 2000s that gave the movement weight. While bands like Starcrawler, Maneskin, and Temples are continuing what The Darkness started, it’s Britain’s The Struts that are igniting the real fire in the genre.

The Struts formed in Derby, England, in 2012 and became known for their outrageous live shows, where band leader Luke Spiller—donned in flamboyant, glitter-clad costumes, makeup, and heavily-teased hair— conjures a mix of Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson, dancing and prancing around the stage, perhaps, at times, drunk, high, or both. They were invited to open for the Rolling Stones before 80,000 people in Paris, and toured the U.S. with them. (They’ve also toured America with Guns N’ Roses and The Who.)

More from Spin:

“That was one of the real life-changing moments in our career where we had been really sort of blowing up in France, for reasons that at the time we couldn’t quite understand…” says Spiller. “Our performance wasn’t particularly breathtaking. In fact, we had the plug pulled out when we went over by about three minutes. When they [the Stones] took us to the United States…it all created this really healthy bit of synergy that we used. And we’re still sort of feeling it now.”

Two years later, the group released its first album, the critically acclaimed Everybody Wants. The record’s first single, “Could Have Been Me,” was certified Platinum.

Since then, the Struts have been selling out shows worldwide, and producing great rock records, including 2018’s Young & Dangerous and 2020’s Strange Days. They have garnered more than 850 million streams, propelling them to reach No. 1 on Spotify’s Viral Top 50, and collaborated with Kesha, Tom Morello, Robbie Williams, Def Leppard — Def Leppard! — among others.

The Struts most recent single, “Can’t Stop Talking” is about a cokehead, Luke Spiller explains, adding that it was “autobiographical, but also character driven” and came from observing a cokehead. It’s mid-morning California time and he’s just gotten out of bed, and is wearing a purple, long-sleeve Madonna T-shirt. His hair is disheveled, and he has a cigarette in his hand. Not particularly glam, if one was to comment on that sort of thing. “When you do that drug… you can tell someone who’s on it and they just absolutely start chewing your ear off,” he says, redundantly.

Not that Spiller knows anything about that, personally; though he admits that the band has partied a lot.

The Struts are now based in LA. They released their fourth studio album, Pretty Vicious, in November 2023 and headlined a 28-city tour in 2024 to promote it.

After “Can’t Stop Talking,” Spiller spent the year-end holidays playing a few shows with pianist Mike Garson — who’s played with Bowie, the Smashing Pumpkins, St. Vincent, and Nine Inch Nails — at The Sun Rose, an intimate venue on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. He’s also working on new songs. “There’s such a demand for new material, so I’m trying to accumulate as many demos as I can,” he says.

While the band’s larger-than-life shows (like driving a Harley-Davidson across the stage underneath dazzling pyrotechnics) have cemented them as a must-see act, the group’s weekly podcast, The Struts Life, connects them in a much more intimate way with their fans. “We thought it would be a great way to really engage with the diehard fans,” says Spiller. The behind-the-scenes podcast includes news about tours and releases, interviews with band members, and personal stories from their family and friends.

“I’m really enjoying the way that it’s growing,” Spiller says about the podcast. “I’m essentially in the business of making people happy and bringing joy. And from what I can gather, it’s definitely giving people a lot of joy.”

Audra McDonald Shares Fan Followed Her Home After Final ‘Gypsy’ Show

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Broadway legend Audra McDonald recently issued a PSA to fans after being followed home by an entitled stranger.

On Sunday (Aug. 17), the actress recounted the terrifying event in an Instagram video captioned, “Some thoughts on boundaries.”

Following her final performance as Mama Rose in Gypsy, McDonald shared, “Last night, someone—I don’t even know if they did the stage door or not—but they snuck around and found me the way I had exited from the theatre.” She explained that the fan followed her to where she was staying, “came into the building, and was uncomfortably close.”

Broadway Star Audra McDonald Said A Fan Followed Her Home Because They Thought They “Deserved” An Autograph, And People Are Scared For Her

— Bulletin (@agent_bulletin) August 17, 2025

She was able to get help from security, but the fan responded, “‘Well, hey, I’ve come all the way,’” she recalled. “They named some town, some city that they’ve come all the way from. They wanted an autograph and felt that they deserved an autograph.”

McDonald admits that she doesn’t always hang around post-show to preserve her vocal health, “whatever energy I have,” and to get home to her young daughter. For other actors, she cited anxiety, health concerns, exhaustion, and more as one of the reasons why they may not greet fans after a show. However, the 55-year-old acknowledged that this restricted access is a boundary that needs to be respected.

“That is crossing a big old boundary,” she emphasized. “I just want to call that out, that’s a big no-no. That’s now messing with my safety. It’s not right.”

As a message to other fans, she urged, “When you see an actor leave the stage door, if they don’t stop, leave them alone. There is a reason that they’re not stopping, and it has nothing to do with you. It’s them protecting their space and peace, whatever that may be.”

After her final performance, McDonald shared, “Saying goodbye to Rose and to my incredible @gypsybway family. I couldn’t have wished for a more brilliant, fierce, joyous, kind and loving group of souls with which to travel this road. I don’t even have the words to express how much I love them all. My head is full of gorgeous memories, my body is tired, and my heart is full of nothing but gratitude and love.”
