Lil Nas X hospitalised for possible overdose after charging at police officers in Los Angeles

Lil Nas X has reportedly been hospitalised due to a possible overdose after charging at police officers in Los Angeles.

According to Rolling Stone, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Thursday (August 21) that a man in his underwear was spotted walking down the street in Studio City at 5:50am. Police attempted to approach him, at which point the man charged at them. He was then placed in handcuffs and escorted to hospital to be treated for a possible overdose.

Although LAPD have not named the man, TMZ also shared a video of Lil Nas X walking on the same street in his underwear, speaking incoherently at around the same time.

It is now believed that the rapper – real name Montero Lamar Hill – is being treated in hospital, and could still potentially be charged for a crime by police.

The incident comes just days after Lil Nas X deleted his Instagram history and renamed his account ‘QUEEN MADELINE’. He has since posted a number of images of artwork and shared clips of possible new music.

In April, the rapper suffered partial paralysis in the right side of his face, explaining in a social media post that he had “lost control” of some muscles. A few days later, he said he had regained some of the lost movement, telling fans that he had been instructed to chew gum to strengthen his muscles.

Lil Nas X released the ‘Days Before Dreamboy’ EP in March via Columbia Records. It was intended to be the latest step of a new album campaign that launched in late 2024 with the ‘Light Again’ single, and was then followed by ‘Need Dat Boy’ in November and ‘Hotbox‘.

‘Days Before Dreamboy’ served as a prelude to ‘DREAMBOY’, which has yet to receive a release date but had been expected to arrive sometime this year.

It will be his first full-length album since his 2021 debut ‘Montero’, which included the hit singles ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ and ‘Industry Baby’ with Jack Harlow.

In a three-star review of that album, NME wrote: “Mostly, it’s refreshing to see Lil Nas X in a different, more reflective light, but in asserting himself so strongly as a Serious Artist, he occasionally forgets about the touch of magic that made him one in the first place.”

Mariah Carey Will Receive Video Vanguard Award at 2025 MTV VMAs

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

MTV has named Mariah Carey its 2025 Video Vanguard Award recipient. The seven-time MTV Video Music Award nominee will perform a medley of her biggest hits when the show airs live on CBS from UBS Arena in New York on Sept. 7.

The coveted award will be the first VMA the musician has received in her storied career. Carey is nominated this year in the Best R&B Video category for her action flick-themed video for “Type Dangerous.” It’s her first nomination as a lead artist since she was up for Best Female Video for “Touch My Body” in 2008. Other highlight career moments, including “Shake It Off” and “We Belong Together,” earned nods over the years, but the Moonmen never made their way to her.

The honor comes at a prime time for Carey, who will release her 16th studio album Here for It All on Sept. 26. The record marks her first since 2018’s Caution. Though she has largely kept details about the project under wraps, she did share another preview on her latest single “Sugar Sweet” with Shenseea and Kehlani.

For her Video Vanguard Award performance, Carey has quite a few options. She could dominate the performance on her own, with plenty of solo hits to fill the space, but her collaborative well runs deep, too. There’s Busta Rhymes, Boyz II Men, Latto, Miguel, Jadakiss, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, and more who could join her for the set.

Earlier this year, Carey similarly received her first-ever BET Award when she was honored with the BET Ultimate Icon Award. “My life and career have been quite the adventure,” Carey said during her speech. “It took me a while, but I realized life is far too short to live for anyone else’s approval.”

Trending Stories

Both awards follow Carey’s second shutout from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Carey follows recent Video Vanguard Award recipients Katy Perry, Shakira, Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, P!nk, and Rihanna.

Backstreet’s back, all right. Little People Collector is taking it back to 1999 to celebrate 25 years of the Backstreet Boys’ iconic album Millennium.

The Mattel-backed brand dropped a special-edition collector set of five figures depicting Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough holding mics in a Millennium-themed box. The box set currently retails for $29.99 and can be purchased at Target. The collection’s timing couldn’t be more perfect, given the iconic band just added more dates to its 2025 Into the Millennium residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, extending it into 2026. It’s safe to say that if you’re a fan of the boy band or a collector of ’90s memorabilia, then this collection is for you. Lurker Director Alex Russell on Bedroom Pop Thriller Movie

Lurker Director Alex Russell on Bedroom Pop Thriller Movie

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

The new MUBI movie Lurker, from Beef and The Bear writer Alex Russell, explores the relationship between fan and artist from a very modern perspective. “I was interested in this aspect of music-making now where it’s so easy to make a song in your bedroom and upload it, and now you’re all of a sudden on the [artist] side of things,” Russell tells Consequence. “You could start out as a fan of something and then put out your own music — and all of a sudden you have fans.”

When that barrier between fan and artist decreases, it means that the relationship between those roles “starts to blur.” It’s a killer starting-off point for a film that tackles fandom and fame, which kicks off when the well-known musical artist Oliver (Archie Madekwe) drops by the shop where aspiring photographer Matthew (Théodore Pellerin) works. Matthew’s able to use that chance encounter to get closer to Oliver and his entourage — enjoying the perks that come from the rock star lifestyle. And when Oliver starts to pull away, Matthew knows he has to find a way to stay in his orbit… by any means necessary.

Russell makes his feature debut as both a writer and director with the film, after winning an Emmy as part of the Beef creative team and writing multiple episodes of The Bear (including Season 2’s extraordinary “Forks”). While Lurker is described in the official press materials as a “a cat-and-mouse thriller,” in watching it its genre feels a little bit nebulous, playing a bit funnier and a bit more grounded than you might expect.

Related Video

That’s something Russell says wasn’t necessarily planned. “I think it wasn’t as intentional as it was just what I wanted to see happen in the movie. And I really like how it worked out tonally. It feels very me, it feels very my style.”

As he continues, “I don’t think I’m able to write something that doesn’t have any comedic edge to it, and I don’t think I’m able to write anything that isn’t somewhat cynical and dark. So I think I was really just trying to be true to what I found interesting and funny. It has this structure of a common thriller, and we know some of those beats as they start to play out. But some of them will surprise you with a comedic turn.”

Lurker made its debut at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, prior to its theatrical debut courtesy of MUBI, and since then people have made their guesses as to who Russell’s inspiration was for Oliver. While he says that “I think everyone that anyone has guessed has been in the realm of intention,” there’s one star who Russell says isn’t a great comparison: “People have mentioned The Weeknd, and I’m like, no, he was so huge as an artist, so immediately. And so recognizable.”

Instead, he conceived of his fictional pop star as someone who’s “more in a DIY stage of his career. He’s small enough as an artist that he could have his friends doing his album artwork — sort of on that precipice where his production value is about to skyrocket.”

Depicting a musical artist at this turning point, he feels, might have been an unconscious reflection of the mindset he was in while originally working on the script in 2020, just after beginning his career as a television writer. “I felt like I was on the verge of doing what I wanted to do as a career when I wrote this movie,” he says. “Maybe that was what was going on in my mind.”

Russell says creating the original music for Oliver was the easiest part of making the movie, because “I didn’t have to do it myself,” he laughs. That was instead handled by producer Kenny Beats, a friend of Russell’s who “can just make a song of any genre very quickly.” He mentions bedroom pop as one of the closer genres he wanted to emulate, with some rock elements: “It was just kind of like, how can we make this feel like an artist that doesn’t exist, but could exist among those artists, you know? I kind of just let Kenny run with it.”

At the beginning of the soundtrack development process, Russell mentioned a few artists to Beats as potential inspiration, including Steve Lacy, Dijon, and Rex Orange County (the latter of whom Beats brought in to contribute to the soundtrack). But, he adds, at that point the character of Oliver was “still somewhat amorphous” — something that changed after Beats and Archie Madekwe collaborated on a few songs. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s his sound. That’s perfect.’ I had no notes and then we put [the songs] in the movie.”

Core to the idea of Lurker, in the end, is how the mystique that surrounds musical artists is a level of stardom with its own set of rules, well beyond the way things work for successful actors in Hollywood. “Actors have to be punctual, they have to be on time — they’re not going to put their sunglasses on and forget to come today,” Russell says. “But musicians can kind of be like, ‘I don’t care about any of this.’”

“And then,” he continues, “everyone still loves them.”

Lurker stalks into theaters on Friday, August 22nd. The movie will be available on MUBI at a later date.

Mastodon Co-Founder Brent Hinds Dies In Motorycle Accident

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Mastodon co-founder/guitarist Brent Hinds died last night (Aug. 20) after his motorcycle was hit by a car in Atlanta. The musician, who left the band under tumulttous circumstances in March, was 51.

Hinds was reportedly struck by a BMV SVU that failed to yield at an intersection. Local police are investigating the accident.

In announcing Hinds’ exit from the band he co-founded in Atlanta in 2000, Mastodon said the move was mutual and they wished “him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.” The group quickly replaced him with guitarist Ben Eller, who has since been replaced by Nick Johnston.

Hinds disputed his former band members’ version of events, at one point calling them “horrible humans” on social media.

This is a developing story.

India.Arie Talks Being Overlooked, Kehlani Gives Singer Her Flowers

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

India.Arie is one of the most influential vocalists of the 21st century, and yet her legacy is often overlooked. With Kehlani acknowledging the Grammy-winner in a recent interview — where her name went unspoken among her contemporaries — the musician took to Instagram to share her thoughts on being skipped over when it comes to conversations surrounding R&B.

During a discussion on the most important figures in Neo-Soul, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and Lauryn Hill were mentioned as the top three by host Nyla Symone before Kehlani was sure to add India.Arie’s name to the Mt. Rushmore convo.

“Yeah, but then you have to add the fourth, and that’s India.Arie,” the “Folded” singer began. “Why do people leave her out of that four? Because we always go, ‘Jill, Lauryn, Erykah,’ but then we forget India.”

India.Arie reposted the interview along with a thank you to the Oakland-native and an open invite to collaborate on a future song, resulting in Kehlani swooning over one of her biggest inspirations within her comment section.

“I love you! i adore you! you have given so much! you gave us confidence, grace, real love, blueprints on walking with God… so much! I WILL GIVE U FLOWERS TILL THE DAY IM GONE I AM SO GRATEFUL I GOT TO GROW UP TO YOUR ART [10 flower emojis] THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU’VE GIVEN!!!!”

The “Steady Love” singer went on to explore being overlooked within the industry in a series of Instagram Stories she later shared to her main page. She began by addressing journalist Touré’s recent YouTube upload dissecting the history of Neo-Soul, with India noting, “he never once mentioned my name.” She proposed that it could be because her music didn’t fit his exact definition of the genre, but it was the closest term she could use to describe her sound from a marketing perspective.

She also noted that her debut album, 2001’s Acoustic Soul, spawned a sub-genre and Spotify playlists that she’s not even on. “BUT I DO HEAR MY DNA ALL UP IN THRU THERE. I KNOW MY CHILDREN WHEN I HEAR EM,” she wrote of her musical offspring.

The songwriter went on to say that the “old familiar pain” of being overlooked “just isn’t there” anymore, adding that she’s fully aware of her accomplishments and influence, even if others aren’t.

Jack White Responds to Trump Official Calling Him a “Washed-Up, Has-Been Loser”

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Jack White is a longtime critic of President Donald J. Trump and his administration, and the musician has even taken legal action against the politician and his campaign. The latest chapter in the saga of White vs. White House came earlier this week when the White Stripes rocker insulted Trump’s redecoration of the Oval Office, saying that it now looks like “a vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler’s dressing room.” The barb elicited a response from Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, who told The Daily Beast that White is “a washed up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career.”

Cheung further defended his boss’ aesthetic choices, telling the outlet: “It’s apparent he’s been masquerading as a real artist, because he fails to appreciate, and quite frankly disrespects, the splendor and significance of the Oval Office inside of ‘The People’s House.’”

The war of words continued yesterday (August 20), with White sharing a lengthy statement against Trump and his administration on Instagram. White criticized Trump’s “blatant fascist manipulation of government, his gestapo ICE tactics, his racist remarks about Latinos, Native Americans, etc. his ridiculous ‘wall’ construction, his attacks on the disabled, his attempted coup and mob insurrection and destruction of the sacred halls of congress,” and plenty more. He went on to use Cheung’s words against Trump, writing that the president “is masquerading as a human being,” and “masquerading as a christian, as a leader, as a person with actual empathy.”

Several artists—including Margo Price and Michigander’s Jason Singer—have supported White in the comments on his post. “You hit a fuckin’ nerve ‘cuz they don’t put out statements this length for earthquakes and shootings,” Patton Oswalt wrote. “Keep going.” Cat Power’s Chan Marshall added, “LOVE YOU JACK❤️‍🔥.”

Drake and Adin Ross to cover funeral costs of Kick streamer who died mid-livestream after “10 days of torture”

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Drake and Adin Ross are reportedly going to be covering the funeral costs of a Kick streamer who died during a livestream.

The streamer in question was 46-year-old Raphaël Graven, was was found dead at a home near Nice, France on August 18. He was best known by the moniker Jean Pormanove, and was said to have been in the middle of a 10-day streaming marathon when he passed.

Authorities in France have confirmed that there will be an investigation into his death due to claims that he had faced “humiliation” and “mistreatment” during the livestream. Various French outlets have also claimed that Graven had been subjected to sleep deprivation, violence and the “ingestion of toxic products” during the 10 day livestream, while people watched live.

News outlet Nexta claims that the livestream saw him “beaten, choked, and sprayed with paint for donations”. It is understood that he died in his sleep while the livestream continued.

News of his passing was shared by Owen Cenazandotti – a fellow streamer who goes by the name Narturo. In a statement with Safine Hamadi, the two shared: “We’ve laughed together for six years, we’ve given each other blow after blow… Six years of memories. I’ll miss you. I love you. Rest in peace, my brother.” They also asked people to not reshare any clips of Graven dead or unconscious.

Following news of his death, tributes have poured in online, and popular streamer Adin Ross has claimed that he had Drake – the rapper who is an ambassador for the Kick streaming platform – have decided to cover the costs for his funeral.

“This is horrible and disgusting. Whoever was a part of this deserves to face severe consequences,” Ross wrote on X, referring to the allegations of violence towards Graven. “I just spoke with Drake. Drake and I will be covering the funeral costs, this won’t bring his life back, it’s the least we can do. Prayers go out to Jean’s family.”

The Canadian rapper has yet to share a public statement about Graven’s death.

Talking to X, French digital technologies minister Clara Chappaz shared her condolences and confirmed that the incident had been referred to Arcom, France’s media regulator. “The death of Jean Pormanove and the violence he endured are an absolute horror. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” the tweet read, adding that the streamer was “humiliated and mistreated for months live on the Kick platform”.

“The responsibility of online platforms regarding the dissemination of illicit content is not optional: It is the law,” she added, sharing that she had contacted Kick for an explanation. “This type of failure can lead to the worst and has no place in France, Europe, or anywhere else.”

In a statement, Kick said (via ITV): “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jean Pormanove and extend our condolences to his family, friends and community. We are urgently reviewing the circumstances and engaging with relevant stakeholders to investigate the situation.

“Kick’s community guidelines are designed to protect creators, and we remain committed to upholding these standards across our platform.”

Garbage May Not Play in ‘Many of the Cities’ on Their Tour Again

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

“Everything must change. All beautiful things come to an end,” the band wrote on Instagram

Garbage‘s forthcoming U.S. tour may be the last time the rock band performs in “many of the cities.” The group shared a post on Instagram confirming that they are “going out in style.”

“Yesterday saw the commencement of rehearsals for our last North American headline tour,” the band wrote. “We haven’t played an extensive headline tour like this one in the States for almost a decade. If the truth be told, it is unlikely we will play many of the cities on this tour ever again.”

They continued, “We are going out in style and we hope you will join us. That’s life my friends. Nothing stays the same forever. Everything must change.  All beautiful things come to an end. We love you.”

The tour kicks off on Sept. 3 in Orlando, with dates scheduled around the U.S. through November. The band will perform at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on Nov. 5 before heading to Mexico City for Corona Capital on Nov. 14. The extensive run comes after the band were forced to cancel their 2024 dates last August when front woman Shirley Manson required “surgery and rehabilitation” after breaking her hip.

Trending Stories

“To be able to headline our own shows for the first time in nearly 10 years feels very special,” Manson told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “Because we are so much older, every time we get to go out and play together on a long tour, it feels like an enormous privilege, because you just never know when it’s going to come ’round again.”

Garbage’s latest LP, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, arrived in May. Manson said the title was inspired by the film All That We Imagine as Light, which came out last year. “I have not even seen the movie, but that title lodged itself in my brain,” she told Rolling Stone. “When we were working on [‘Radical’], I’d already sung, ‘All you’ve got to do is save a life,’ and then I started singing ‘Let all that we imagine be the light’ in the second half of the chorus. It fitted in with the music perfectly. It just seemed like such a perfect encapsulation of where my mind was at the time.”

Oasis Release Live ‘Wonderwall’ From Dublin, Plan Limited Ticket Release

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

With just a few days to go before Oasis kick off the North American run of their Live ’25 reunion tour in Toronto, the band offered fans two surprise gifts on Wednesday (Aug. 20). The first was a live rendition of their beloved 1995 single “Wonderwall” from one of their recent shows in Dublin, Ireland, where the band returned to perform for the first time since 2008.

The footage from Croke Park finds singer Liam Gallagher crooning the yearning ballad in fine voice in one of his signature anoraks over a hoodie, which he has pulled up tight over his head so his eyes are barely visible. Brother/songwriter Noel Gallagher provides the propulsive acoustic guitar backing as he gazes out at a massive stadium lit up by fans’ waving cellphone flashlights.

In addition, they posted a “Postcards from Dublin” compilation video of their double-down on Aug. 16 and 17, with film of a young fan in homemade Oasis shirt and bucket hat selling waters outside the venue, a man in official gear holding up his baby in matching shirt and hat, the excitement outside the venue as well as the earth-shaking, full stadium hopping up and down from the crowd inside and clips from several songs.

So far, the band has offered up a number of live tracks from the reunion shows in the U.K. and Ireland, including “Slide Away” from the kick-off in Cardiff, Wales, as well as “Cigarettes & Alcohol” from their home town of Manchester and “Little By Little” from their London run.

But perhaps the biggest gift of all is a note that went up on Wednesday announcing that some last-minute seats for the North American shows will be released in the coming days. According to a post, “as the North American shows are getting closer, Oasis promoters may be able to release a very limited number of additional tickets for sale once final sight lines are checked and the production is fine tuned. These final production releases will happen over the coming days.”

That’s great news for those who haven’t yet scored tickets as the North American run is slated to kick off on Sunday (Aug. 24) at Rogers Stadium in Toronto — where the band will play again on Monday (Aug. 25) — before moving on to Soldier Field in Chicago (Aug. 28), then MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. (Aug. 31, Sept. 1), the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. (Sept. 6, 7) and Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City (Sept. 12, 13); Cage the Elephant will open all the North American dates, with Cast joining for the N.J. and California shows.

Find out how to score those tickets below.
