David Byrne Performs New Song ‘What Is The Reason for It?’ on ‘Fallon’

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

The new single features on Byrne’s upcoming album, Who Is the Sky?, arriving Friday

David Byrne swapped his big suit for an orange tracksuit on The Tonight Show during an intimate performance at Rough Trade NYC in Rockefeller Plaza.

In the episode aired on Wednesday, the former Talking Heads frontman performed his new single “What Is The Reason For It?” from his upcoming album, Who Is the Sky?. As Byrne sang the chorus, “What is the reason for it? Why is it there? Is it my body or my brain?,” he danced alongside his backup singers and band in matching jackets and pants.

The song is the fifth track on Who Is the Sky?, which is set for release on Friday, and features Paramore’s Hayley Williams. The Kid Harpoon-produced album follows 2018’s American Utopia, and also features contributions from St. Vincent (whom he collaborated with on 2012’s Love This Giant), the Smile’s Tom Skinner, and more.

In a previous statement, Byrne said that the record is “a chance to be the mythical creature we all harbor inside. A chance to step into another reality. A chance to transcend and escape from the prison of our ‘selves.’”

When speaking to late-night host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Byrne said that although he cautioned Kid Harpoon (who has worked with Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, and Maggie Rogers) that his songs were a “little bit left field” compared to music from his previous collaborators, the producer embraced Byrne’s new project.

Just a few weeks after revealing that he is engaged to Mala Gaonkar, Byrne announced that along with his album release, he would also be tying the knot this week, and shared a playlist of instrumental songs that will play at his wedding dinner. The playlist includes 42 songs, and a focus on Latin music, including songs such as “Pa Japón” by El Alfa, “Perfidia” by Café Tacvba, and “Luz de Luna” by marimba-punk group Son Rompe Pera.

Neil Young Officially Releases Donald Trump Takedown “Big Crime”

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

As conspiracy theories swirl around his current health , Donald Trump hasn’t exactly had the best couple of days. Well, Neil Young is about to make it just a little bit worse as he officially releases his latest protest banger, “Big Crime,” to streaming services everywhere.

If you recall, Young and his band Chrome Hearts debuted the song in late August during their soundcheck at Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion. (The show featured something of a “protest medley,” as “Big Crime” was slotted alongside songs like “Be the Rain,” “Southern Man,” “Ohio,” and “Sun Green.”) Check out the music video below, which is a bare-bones performance piece that captures as much ’60s-era defiance as that same era’s robust psychedelic vibes. “Big Crime’ is also available to download via the Neil Young Archives.

Get Neil Young Tickets Here

The stomping anthem calls to “clean the White House out” and takes direct aim at the Trump administration’s takeover of Washington, DC’s law enforcement: “Don’t want soldiers on our streets/ There’s big crime in DC at the White House,” Young sings.

Related Video

In the arsenal of Young’s many potent protest jams, “Big Crime” feels like a proper standout. Admittedly, the lyrics (written out below) aren’t as verbose and mighty as, say, “Rockin’ in the Free World.” However, when you pair “Big Crime” with other recent takedowns like “Let’s Roll Again” and “If You’re a Fascist, Get a Tesla,” we see that Young is trading in some of that wit and nuance for a directness that the MAGA folk need to really get the message.

If you want to potentially stick it to Trump alongside the Canadian crooner, Young has a handful of dates for September. Grab your tickets here.

Neil Young 2025 Tour Dates:
09/04 – Woodinville, Washington @ Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery
09/06 – Burnaby, Canada @ Deer Lake Park
09/10 – Bend, Oregon @ Hayden Homes Amphitheater
09/12 – Mountain View, California @ Shoreline Amphitheatre
09/15-16 – Los Angeles, California @ Hollywood Bowl
09/20 – Minneapolis, Minnesota @ Huntington Bank Stadium (Farm Aid 40)

“Big Crime” Lyrics (Emphasis by artist):

No more great again
No – no more great again
There’s big crime in DC at THE White House

Don’t need no fascist rules
Don’t want no fascist schools
Don’t want soldiers on our streets
There’s big crime in DC at THE White House
There’s big crime in DC at THE White House

Got to get the fascists out
got to Clean the white house out
Don’t want soldiers on our streets
There’s big crime in DC at THE White House
There’s big crime in DC at THE White House

No more great again
No – no more great again
There’s big crime in DC at THE White House
There’s big crime in DC at THE White House

No more money to the fascists
the billionaire fascists
TIME TO BLACKOUT THE SYSTEM
no more great again
No – no more great again

Ernie Isley Honors Legacy For Maui Music & Food Experience: Recap

Ernie Isley Honors Legacy For Maui Music & Food Experience: Recap

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Ernie Isley is the secret sauce of The Isley Brothers, but he’s far from underrated. Just ask him. As a visionary and legend in his own right, the 73-year-old recently co-headlined the second annual Maui Music & Food Experience (MMFE) with funk band, Dumpstaphunk, as part of a tribute to the late, indelible Jimi Hendrix.

His history with the influential guitarist dates back to his youth. Isley met Hendrix at the tender age of 11 when he joined the Isley Brothers’ backing band, the I.B. Specials, for a few years. Hendrix lived in their family home and was “never charged for his room [or] whatever food he ate.” Isley emphasized this tidbit in our conversation, noting that he was the only band member afforded that “privilege.”

Isley praised his talents and couldn’t help, but to smile while reflecting. “Nobody plays like him. He’s left-handed, [and played] the guitar upside down,” he said still in awe, later calling him an “electric guitar deity.”

He remembered the band watching The Beatles on Ed Sullivan with Hendrix sandwiched between him and his brother, Marvin. There was no thunderous applause for him yet, but [O’Kelly Isley Jr.] knew Hendrix was special.

According to Ernie, Kelly declared, “These guys, this English band, that’s legit. It’s not hype. I don’t know what’s going to go on with any of the other American artists, but I think we’re going to be all right because we got Jimi.” Isley recalled, “I looked over at Jimi when he said that, and Jimi was grinning ear to ear because it was true.”

Isley, himself, became a self-taught guitar player at age 16. He played the bass on “It’s Your Thing” and later helped create hits including “Fight the Power,” “The Love of You, “Voyage To Atlantis,” “Footsteps in the Dark”, “Climbin’ Up the Ladder,” and “Between The Sheets.”

“We already know Ronald’s gonna be singing everything, but when you start talking about the songs, [meaning] ‘Where’d the songs come from?’ They say, ‘Oh, a lot of that comes from Ernie,’” he explained.

When speaking on some of those hits, Isley recalled “inspiration comes, however,” but distinctly remembered one moment. “The first time I played ‘Voyage to Atlantis,’” he shared, “I apologized to Kelly and Ronald, because I said, ‘Okay, this isn’t going to sound like ‘For the Love Of You’ or ‘Make Me Say It Again,’ or ‘Hello, It’s Me,’ but it is a love song. And when they heard it, [they said], ‘Oh, how did you come up with that one?’ It turned out to be one of our standard Isley Brothers songs.”

The Maui Music & Food Experience was founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Gary Grube, who also founded the Hua Momona Foundation and Farms. The two-day experience is an extension of both aforementioned endeavors. The farm started to help “donate produce to those with food insecurity and to the homeless shelters prior to COVID.” When the wildfires happened, the Foundation provided 6,000 free hot meals per month to the local community of Lahaina for over a year.

Both led to the creation of the MMFE, which Grube explained is “a multi-year effort to provide an additional source of much-needed funds and to provide some comfort, love, and Aloha to the people of the community.”

Isley fell in love with Maui back in 1999 when he honeymooned there with his wife, Tracy. However, he became particularly fond of Lahaina, a historic town on the coast of Maui that was tragically affected by a series of wildfires in August 2023. For the bassist, he acknowledged the “grief and sadness” that clouded the beautiful city, but welcomed the chance to partake in rebuilding the city through the celebration of music and food.

With Hawaii being such a romanticized destination, though, Grube urges tourists and transplants to first “understand the Hawaiian culture, [which includes] caring for community, family, and the land.” He added, “Helping to preserve that identity is crucial. As a first-time visitor to Maui, you see the unique and diverse beauty and begin to learn about the culture, such as saying ‘Aloha.’ Over time, on return visits, you become more familiar with the community. Everyone has been through a lot with COVID, the fire, and the economy. Living here or visiting here is a privilege, and saying Hawaiian phrases a little more often will make it an even nicer place to be. Like the late renowned chef and restaurateur Mark Ellman said, ‘Practice Aloha.’”

Grube has plans to expand the experience into other cities. Initially, he hoped to bring it to Los Angeles and San Antonio first, but with each city experiencing its own set of natural disasters, he felt “the timing was not right.” However, the first expansion will occur in Chicago this November.

Greg Freeman: Burnover Album Review

Greg Freeman: Burnover Album Review

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Did you know that Vermont is one of four U.S. states where billboards are illegal? As a result, Upstate New York highways near the Vermont border have tons of billboards: one for a cow-themed country store sandwiched between one for a sex shop and one with a picture of a fetus and a call for sinners to repent. Something haunts these highways and the towns they connect, making the region as surreal as it is scenic. Back when I was going to college in Vermont, frequently traveling between there and Albany, my friends and I would sometimes trek through the snow to the only bar in town, where, on some nights, we’d watch farmers and truckers sing karaoke. I’d heard a rumor that one of our professors was banned from that bar for fighting, and another, less confirmable rumor that the same professor was banned from singing karaoke in the state of Vermont.

These are the kinds of tales that would fit right into a song by the 27-year-old Burlington-based musician Greg Freeman. In his slices of life in unassuming New York locales like Rome and Rensselaer, the greater Upstate area becomes the Wild West, its landscape the backdrop for thrilling road songs, crime dramas, and ghost stories.

Not every great album hits on the first listen, but Freeman’s second record, Burnover, somehow feels like it’s always existed. He draws from many of the same influences as his peers in an indie rock landscape that’s taken renewed interest in country and slacker rock but gives these genres a sense of momentum and verve. Freeman’s take on alt-country amps up the drama, whether he’s trafficking in historical fiction (“Burnover,” “Wolf Pine”) or first-person heartbreak (“Gallic Shrug,” “Sawmill”). To call slacker rock “urgent” or “emphatic” might sound like an oxymoron, until you remember that the greatest works the genre has to offer are ones whose disaffected delivery and seemingly banal details reveal a profound tenderness. Freeman is occasionally nonchalant but never apathetic. His similes likening desire to “a pie on a windowpane” or regret to “a cork stabbed into your wine bottle’s mouth” transcend non-sequitur, becoming momentary worlds unto themselves.

It’s easy to locate Freeman on the map his musical forebears have laid out—not because he’s playing an imitation game, but because of how his songs tap into their most timeless instincts. He’s got Warren Zevon’s savage, thrill-seeking pen and ear for dissonant grooves; Jason Molina’s balance of softhearted blues with rugged outlaw country; Jeff Mangum’s penchant for surrealism and sound collage; Stephen Malkmus’ talent for saying so much like he’s saying nothing; and Bruce Springsteen’s chameleonic magnetism as he morphs from a cowboy crooner to a lounge singer to a world-weary heartland rocker. Freeman has enough swagger to pull off a come-hither line like, “You’re a crescent moon now but I know you, girl/I know your dark majority,” or a “John fuckin’ Henry” namedrop (given the songwriting lineage he’s in, mentioning the legendary steel-driving man is all but a rite of passage). There’s only so much self-seriousness one can maintain while shouting “Guitars! Guitars! Guitars!” to announce a rubber-burning guitar solo that spins out into honking distortion and brass ribbons, as Freeman does on “Gulch.” When faraway keyboard tinkering and mournful strings give way to the outro of “Rome, New York,” his voice grows thinner and more desperate, singing, “Heaven, like a ditch, will sometimes spill into the street at night/To pacify the muffled dreams of the broken-into cars.”

Is Taylor Swift playing the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show? “Maybe”, says NFL commissioner

by jummy84 September 4, 2025

Could Taylor Swift be headlining the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show? “Maybe,” says NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

  • READ MORE: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour comes to an end: a look at its massive global impact

Swift has long been a top contender for a Super Bowl halftime show performance, and speculation that she’ll soon be headlining the coveted slot has picked up steam in recent weeks.

Speaking on the Today Show recently, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if she would be headlining next year’s Super Bowl performance. He responded: “We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent and obviously, she would be welcome at any time.”

When asked point blank if it was “in the works” for the 2026 slot, he deflected: “I can’t tell you anything about that.” When pressed for a firm answer, he coyly replied: “It’s a maybe.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says Taylor Swift doing the Super Bowl halftime show is a possibility.

— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) September 3, 2025

As for when 2026’s performer will be announced, Goodell said he’s waiting on the NFL’s music supervisor Jay-Z to finalise a date. Performers are typically announced between September and October the previous year – Kendrick Lamar was announced in September 2024 to headline this year’s sporting event.

Fans have been speculating that Swift would be headlining the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show in recent weeks. Last month, Swift made her first appearance on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, where she announced her upcoming 12th album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’.

For some fans, this was confirmation enough that she’ll headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show, because the choice to announce her album on there specifically seemed a puzzling, but perhaps intentional choice. Some have even pointed out potential hints captured throughout the podcast episode – check out “evidence” of this here.

Another act who have expressed their interest in the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show are metal legends Metallica, who noted that next year’s sporting event will take place in their hometown of San Francisco.

Speaking to Howard Stern recently, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich responded when asked if they were keen on playing the Super Bowl next year: “Fuck yeah, of course we would. First of all we would do it. Second of all to do it in San Francisco would be a dream come true and would be the right fit… Certainly as somebody who’s represented San Francisco all over the world and shouted for decades about San Francisco and our love for the Bay Area, that part of it is the right fit. Ultimately it’s not our decision.”

The star said that although it was a difficult decision, she didn’t want to “risk long term or permanent damage” to her vocal cords

Lady Gaga has postponed her show in Miami tonight, citing an “extremely strained” voice and recommendations from both her doctor and vocal coach to rest.

The star called off the show just before it was set to kick off in Kaseya Center as thousands gathered to see Gaga perform. “I am really so so sorry but I need to postpone tonight’s show in Miami,” wrote Gaga in her statement shared to Instagram Stories. “During rehearsal last night and my vocal warmup tonight my voice was extremely strained and both my Dr and vocal coach have advised me not to go on because of the risk it poses.” The singer said that while she wants to” be hardcore and just push through this for you,” she doesn’t “want to risk long term or permanent damage on my vocal cords.”

She reminded fans that she sings live every night and that there is “a significant risk based on all our combined experience with a show like ours.” Gaga said that while it was “a hard and agonizing decision,” she would be “more afraid of the long term implications on my voice.”

Lady Gaga Miami Concert Canceled on Mayhem Ball Tour

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Lady Gaga announced late Wednesday (Sept. 3) that she had to postpone her Mayhem Ball Tour stop in Miami after fans had already packed Kaseya Center for the show.

She revealed that her voice was strained during rehearsals on Tuesday night and that it hadn’t improved during her warm-up ahead of Wednesday night’s show.

“Hi everyone I am really so so sorry but I need to postpone tonight’s show in Miami,” Gaga wrote in an all-caps message posted to her Instagram Stories. “During rehearsal last night and my vocal warmup tonight my voice was extremely strained and both my [doctor] and vocal coach have advised me not to go on because of the risk it poses.”

In her message, Gaga expressed just how “agonizing” the decision was for her to make, but she couldn’t ignore the potential for long-term damage to her voice.

“I want to be hardcore and just push through this for you but I don’t want to risk long term or permanent damage on my vocal cords,” Gaga wrote. “There is a significant risk based on all our combined experience with a show like ours and as you know I sing live every night –and even though this was a hard and agonizing decision I would be more afraid of the long term implications on my voice. I hope you can forgive me and accept my sincerest apologies for any disappointment, let down, inconvenience. I am so so sorry. I tried so hard to avoid this. I take serious care of myself to be able to put on this highly demanding show. I love my fans so much, respect you and hope you can accept my sincere regretful apology.”

To end the message, Gaga assured fans: “We are trying to reschedule the show as quickly as possible.”

Videos on social media showed fans pouring out of Miami’s Kaseya Center after being informed of the last-minute postponement.

Gaga kicked off her Mayhem Ball Tour in Las Vegas in July and has U.S. dates scheduled through Sept. 18 in Chicago. Her international dates — with stops in Europe, Australia and Asia — go through Jan. 30.

Next up, Gaga is scheduled for two more dates at New York’s Madison Square Garden this weekend — on Saturday and Sunday — as well as a performance on Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Earlier Wednesday, Gaga dropped “The Dead Dance,” featured in the second season of Wednesday, along with a Tim Burton-directed music video and a deluxe edition of her most recent Mayhem album.

South Park Answers the Question on Everyone’s Mind

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

*Note: The following article contains spoilers*

Mazel tov to South Park’s favorite new couple, Donald Trump and Satan, who are expecting their first child together!

That was the big pay-off of this week’s episode, “Wok Is Dead,” revealed in the final 90 seconds in humorous storyline that centered on demonic Labubus, tariffs, and Fox News’ obsession with determining whether or not Trump and the Satan are fucking.

The episode’s A plot specifically dealt with the prices being shouldered by Americans due to Trump’s tariffs, experienced through Labubus. After his new “girlfriend” Red demands a rare Labubu as a birthday gift, Butters goes shopping at City Pop Up—formerly known as City Wok—only to encounter sticker shock from the shop’s owner Tuong Lu Kim.

“You think I pay tariff? You pay tariff! It’s not me, it’s your government,” Kim tells Butters. “I don’t get fucked by tariff, you get fucked by tariff. In China, we call it hot potato!” We later learn there’s more to these Labubus than meets the eye, as the curse of the tariffs has turned them demonic.

Related Video

All the while, South Park pokes fun at Fox News’ ever-fawning coverage of Trump. After exiting Air Force One, Trump is greeted by a diverse group of reporters composed solely of Fox reporters, who ask the question everyone wants to know: “Are you fucking Satan?” The network later dives deeper into the question with a full-fledged segment that includes Sean Hannity demonstrating the technique of how Trump and Satan might fuck. “The president is doing things no other president has done before,” exclaims a Fox & Friends anchor.

We eventually get our answer when, after the South Park elementary girls perform a Labulus dark ritual to summon Trump and Satan, the couple admits that not only are they fucking, but Satan is, in fact, pregnant. “I am bound to him. Yes, we are together. We’ve been together for months. I want to leave him, but I can’t—because I’m pregnant,” divulges Satan. “I’m forced to stay in this situation for several more years.”

Naturally, Fox News is overjoyed by the news, as is Kid Rock. “I honestly didn’t think the president wasn’t fucking Satan, but now knowing that he was this whole time, I’m just so happy,” Kid Rock said through tears.

Who Is Zu? An Explainer Of August Alsina’s Boyfriend

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

August Alsina and his partner, Zu, are no longer leaving fans guessing about the status of their relationship, as the two have officially confirmed they’re a couple.

While Zu (birth name unknown) has mostly kept a low profile, the 22-year-old upcoming rapper and singer recently addressed the timeline regarding their romance, shutting down speculation about when they first met.

“I met August when I was already of age, an adult. Aug didn’t even know me when I was 16 or 17… not sure where that came from,” he wrote on X after stepping out with Alsina at Club Opium during ATL Pride. “Yeah, there’s a slight age difference, but y’all pick and choose who to judge when it comes to that.”

Alsina first raised eyebrows back in 2022 when he introduced Zu as his “love” during VH1’s The Surreal Life, a moment many viewed as his way of publicly “coming out.”

While the pair didn’t define their relationship at the time, the signs were there: matching fits, cozy photos, joint music ventures, and even intimate moments for Alsina’s Encina Wellness brand.

With so much curiosity surrounding their bond, VIBE has pulled together a few key facts about Zu to give readers a better sense of who he is beyond the romance. Here’s what we know so far.

  • He Has A Huge Social Media Following

Zu currently has over 83,000 followers on TikTok and over 105,000 followers on Instagram. On social media, he shares his music, fitness journey, his outings and sometimes his moments with August. Also he gets plenty of love for his perfectly chiseled face and body to match.

  • He Is A Singer

Zu is a melodic rapper/singer who has released three singles, with his most recent being “Outside.” He has past collaborative songs with August including “2 AM” and “Yeah Yeah.” The couple also appeared in the “2 AM” music video together where they rode around in a car and shared a monochromatic scene.

On the season finale of VH1’s The Surreal Life, August Alsina left fans buzzing when he shared a vulnerable moment while wrapping up his time on the revamped reality series. Seated alone at first, August said, “This experience has taught me love in so many forms and facets. And then what do you know? Love showed up, but in a new way.”

The “No Love” crooner continued, “I want to honor the person that I love, and that loves me back, and who is teaching me so much about love and healing. I want to do that in front of the world because it defies all the constructs of what people say love is supposed to be or look like.”

Moments later, Alsina called someone off-camera to join him and entered Zu. Sitting down beside the singer, Zu was met with a heartfelt “I love you” before the two embraced in a hug. The episode cut off there, leaving viewers debating whether the connection was romantic or platonic.

In a recent rant about his relationship timeline with August, Zu explained their age difference. Zu decided to clarify their relationship after murmurs of when they met resurfaced on social media, with critics speculating that August began dating Zu while he was a minor. According to Zu, that simply isn’t true.

“I met August when I was already of age, an adult. Aug didn’t even know me when I was 16 or 17… not sure where that came from,” he explained. “Yea, there’s a slight age difference but y’all pick and choose who to judge when it comes to that.”

“We will have known each other for 5 years toward the end of the year, so he’s speaking in future terms because that’s where we plan to make it.”
