‘Boondocks’ Creator Aaron McGruder Joins ‘Last Friday’ Writers Room

In an exciting turn for fans of the Friday film franchise, legendary cartoonist and writer Aaron McGruder has joined the writers’ room for the long-rumored final installment of the series, tentatively titled Last Friday.

Actor and comedian Mike Epps, who has featured in the franchise’s previous entries, revealed the news during his recent interview with Big Boy.

“I just was with Ice Cube, DJ Pooh, and Aaron McGruder, sitting in the room writing this movie,” Epps said of the addition of McGruder, creator of the cult-savvy comic strip and subsequent animated series The Boondocks. “We’re writing it right now, and it’s gonna be crazy.”

Epps further noted that the occasion was the first time that all of the writers of the film were in a room together to trade ideas about the script. “This is the first time we all got together,” the Indiana native said while providing the latest update regarding Last Friday.

McGruder’s arrival is significant: his groundbreaking work began with The Boondocks comic strip—debuting in the student newspaper of the University of Maryland and later syndicated nationwide—then evolved into a sharp, socially conscious animated series for Adult Swim.

Known for its biting commentary on race, politics, and culture, The Boondocks earned a dedicated and critically appreciative fan base. McGruder’s unique voice and fearless satire have long earned him a reputation for mixing humour with provocative reflection.

At the same time, the Friday series’ lead—Ice Cube—has been waging a protracted battle in the background.

Although the original film premiered in 1995 and spawned sequels Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002), Cube has repeatedly lamented that he cannot bring the new movie to fruition because the studio currently holding the rights, Warner Bros. (via New Line Cinema), continues to stall.

“I don’t know. Warner Bros is weird right now… They don’t know what they’re doing. We’d love to have it back,” Cube said in a 2022 podcast appearance, adding bluntly: “I ain’t putting sh*t up for it. F**k no. They need to give it to me.”

He also revealed that two scripts for Last Friday had been submitted and rejected, further fueling speculation that the project was mired in development limbo. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the film is moving forward under the production of Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema.

With Aaron McGruder now at the table alongside Cube, DJ Pooh and Mike Epps, the new draft for the film appears to be gaining fresh momentum. Epps also took a moment to honour Cube’s legacy.
“Shouts out to Ice Cube, the Don Mega,” the comic said while saluting his longtime co-star.

“I always give Ice Cube his props, man, because not only did he walk me in the business, but he walked a lot of young brothers and sisters in the business.”

In short: a landmark cultural creator is stepping into a landmark franchise at a crucial juncture — and if this latest writers’ room has its way, fans of both The Boondocks and Friday might finally get the chapter they’ve awaited.

Disney CFO On YouTube TV Fight

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

“We’re in the middle of negotiations right now. Things are live. They’re happening. Obviously, as we entered the year, we knew this was going to be a challenging battle and we prepared ourselves for it, and we’re ready to go as long as they want to,” said Disney chief financial officer Hugh Johnston on CNBC this morning on the Mouse’s ongoing fight with YouTube TV.

Disney and YouTube have been locked in a carriage standoff for the past two weeks with ABC, ESPN and other networks going dark Oct. 30 on the Google service that is now the No. 3 U.S. pay-TV provider with 10 million subscribers. Industry and subscriber hopes that a second week of Monday Night Football would hasten the end of the clash went by the boards. Thus far, two revenue-rich Saturday slates of college football and two Monday night contests have been wiped out, with a 21% hit to ratings on the November 3 game between the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals.

In an interview on the network just after Disney reported mixed quarterly earnings, Johnston pushed back on comments that YouTube’s parent (Google and Alphabet) may have more leverage in negotiations given the relative size YouTube TV to the overall enterprise.

“This is ultimately about your customers, and, right now, YouTube customers are suffering without this critical content for them, right? Sports in the middle of football season is about as important as you can get. So, I think from that perspective, we perhaps have some leverage as well, because there are other places people can go to get that sports,” Johnston said.

He declined to address particular issues at stake in the talks. “I’m just not going to comment on the various elements of the negotiation. It’s a negotiation. There’s back and forth. They want certain things, you want certain things.”

Johnston will be flanking Disney CEO Bob Iger on a call with Wall Street analysts starting 8:30 ET where the YouTube TV fight will likely come up again.

Fans around the world have been concerned about the health of legendary Indian actor Dharmendra, who has now reportedly been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Several Bollywood stars, including Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Govinda, and Abhay Deol, were spotted visiting him to check on the veteran actor’s condition.

Known for unforgettable performances in classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Haqeeqat, Seeta Aur Geeta, and The Burning Train, Dharmendra’s filmography is filled with iconic roles. However, few know that he was also considered for a major role in Shaan (1980), the star-studded action thriller directed by Sholay director Ramesh Sippy.

Released five years after Sholay and written by Salim-Javed, Shaan featured Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Sunil Dutt, and Shatrughan Sinha, but Dharmendra was almost part of this ensemble. Here’s the interesting story behind which role he was offered and why he couldn’t be in the film.

Why Did Dharmendra Turn Down Shaan?

Although filmmaker Ramesh Sippy initially planned to reunite with the Sholay cast for his next big project, Shaan, fate had other plans. As per a report by News18, Ramesh Sippy wanted to cast Dharmendra, Hema Malini, and Sanjeev Kumar in key roles. However, Dharmendra decided not to be part of the film due to some differences with the director. Following his exit, Hema Malini also chose to step away, and eventually, Sanjeev Kumar too opted out, leading the filmmaker to rework the cast.

Which Actor Replaced Dharmendra in Shaan?

After Dharmendra’s exit from Shaan, there were big shoes to fill. The role eventually went to Shashi Kapoor, who had recently shared the screen with Amitabh Bachchan in Yash Chopra’s 1979 action-drama Kaala Patthar. His effortless charm and strong on-screen chemistry with Amitabh Bachchan made him a fitting addition to Ramesh Sippy’s ensemble.

What Is Shaan All About?

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, this action drama follows brothers Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor), carefree conmen whose lives take a dark turn after their honest brother, Inspector Shiv Kumar (Sunil Dutt), is killed by the ruthless crime lord Shakaal (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Teaming up with a skilled marksman (Shatrughan Sinha), they set out to infiltrate Shakaal’s island fortress to avenge their brother’s death.

Where to Watch Shaan?

Shana is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and MX Player digital platforms in India.

Lone Releases New Single “Sickly, Sweetly Summer Movie”

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Matt Cutler returned last month with “Ascension.png,” his first new song as Lone in nearly two years. The British electronic producer is keeping up that momentum today with another new one called “Sickly, Sweetly Summer Movie,” which, respectfully, is an odd title to give a song you’re releasing in mid-November.

“Sickly, Sweetly Summer Movie”‘s enjoyability isn’t too dependent on warm weather, though, because it isn’t really concerned with the earth realm at all. In a message to his Bandcamp customers, Lone describes the song as “a warped lullaby that descends into a nightmare” evoking some “real fever dream vibes.” There are a lot of celestial synths at play, interrupted only by some nondescript vocals — “me, way past my bedtime,” Lone adds — before its final moments get ever-so-subtly darker. Listen below.

South Park Tackles Deepfakes as Manipulated Videos Hit the Town

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

South Park went deep on deepfakes this week, with dual plotlines in Colorado and Washington centered around the concerning use of false video and the implications of its widespread use — be it for revenge porn or to excuse real footage.

We start this week’s episode with our beloved Butters, feeling like he was used, hellbent on revenge against his ex-girlfriend, Red, over the whole Labubu Satanic ritual incident at her birthday party last season. So the sweet boy decides to create an A.I. deepfake video of her being urinated upon by Santa Claus. Which is bad, but not quite as bad as the video Red makes of Butters having sex with Totoro, the lovable creature from the 1988 Hayao Miyazaki animated fantasy film, My Neighbor Totoro. And, yes, Butters defiling Totoro is something we just can’t unsee.

The plotline thickens surrounding Eric Cartman and Peter Thiel’s trip to Washington to battle The Antichrist — a kidnapping that is being covered up with deep fake AI videos of the young resident obnoxious anti-hero — as the boys’ mother starts asking questions of the local police. But Detective Harris is more concerned with the apparent series of rapes at South Park Elementary, and are soon questioning Butters about his relationship with Totoro (referred to here as “hat forest dwelling piece of shit”). And that’s when goons from Studio Ghibli in Japan show up, calling B.S. on the hard-earned work of animators being easily copied by AI deep fakes. They are soon thrown into South Park’s jail.

In Washington, Vice President J.D. Vance is getting a tongue lashing from President Trump over his meddling in his personal life, namely the baby he is expecting with Satan, aka the Antichrist. Trump fesses up that he doesn’t want the baby, as the little bundle of hellfire will cramp his social life. So Vance suggests a gunman he knows in Colorado who can take care of things. Satan walks in on the Veep and Prez in the White House hot tub, hatching the plan, but yells at Trump and runs off. At that point, Trump and Vance seem to have a moment in the hot tub… and end up making love in the Lincoln Bedroom — in a scene that goes on and on and never gets comfortable to watch.

Talk about a speedy trial. After the act break, the A.I. The video revenge situation at South Park Elementary is soon on trial — with animated favorite Bluey on the stand to testify about the bad things Kyle, Stan and Kenny made her do in a deep fake that she wasn’t even paid for. By episode’s end, it;s discovered that the videos of Cartman were fake and he’s rescued and as always, ungrateful of his mother’s love (“When’s the last time you saw me eat a pot pie?” he asks his relieved mom.

All’s well that ends well for Detective Harris, who believes that he busted a huge community of online rapists named after a popular AI tool. However, Trump is in hot water when Lincoln Bedroom surveillance footage of him getting freaky with Vance leaks to Fox News; the network issues a despondent, defeated report on the tryst; it’s so sad you can almost feel bad for the network and its Trump-loving staff. That is, until Trump clears the air by telling Fox anchor that, duh, of course that lengthy — too lengthy — sex scene with his veep was fake as hell. Satan seems skeptical but remains in Trump’s bed as the arrival of The AntiChrist gets closer…

Dakota Johnson Upgraded Her Leggings With The Chicest Trainer Trend

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

For their unmatched comfort, sleek silhouette and easy styling, I’ll never not have a space in my wardrobe for leggings. Still, I often find myself approaching them with a little caution—because without the right outfit ingredients, leggings can quickly lean too casual, even undone.

I find myself feeling this way whenever I try to style my leggings with white trainers. As much as I love white trainers (and believe me, I really do), I find that the combination can feel a little too relaxed. Still, I’m not about to retire my leggings-and-trainers combination altogether. Instead, it’s about making a few smart swaps that elevate the formula without compromising on comfort.

My first suggestion? Swapping your white trainers for a fresher pair, just as Dakota Johnson did earlier this week. Instead of reaching for minimalist kicks, Dakota swapped them out for a sleek, metallic-emblazoned pair. Wearing Nike’s V2K trainers with silver detailing, the actor styled them with tall black socks, high-waisted black leggings and a bright pink sports bra, creating a sporty, off-duty look that felt polished, directional and far from boring.

Of course, white trainers are a forever wardrobe staple, and I’m not suggesting you purge your collection anytime soon. But when it comes to leggings, a metallic trainer offers an instant update—adding contrast, shine and interest to an otherwise pared-back outfit.

Inspired by Dakota’s styling, I’ve rounded up an edit of the best black leggings and metallic trainers below. Read on to discover my picks.
