Charli XCX Teams Up With John Cale in Trippy ‘House’ Video: Watch

Charli XCX has teamed up with Velvet Underground’s John Cale to create a trippy video for their new collaborative song “House,” which will appear on the soundtrack to director Emerald Fennell’s upcoming big screen adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

The idea was sparked a few years back when Charli saw the the 2021 Todd Haynes documentary The Velvet Underground. “One thing that stuck with me was how John Cale described a key sonic requirement of the Velvet Underground,” she wrote in a note to fans. “That any song had to be both ‘elegant and brutal.’ I got really stuck on that phrase. I write it down on my notes app and would pull it up from time to time and think about what he meant.”

“When working on music for this film, ‘elegant and brutal’ was a phrase I kept coming back to,” she continued. “One day whilst on tour in Austin, Finn [Keane] and I went to the studio and wrote the bones for a song that would eventually become House. When the summer ended I was still ruminating on John’s words. So I decided to reach out to him to get his opinion on the songs that his phrase had so deeply inspired, but also to see whether he might want to collaborate on any.”

They wound up chatting on the phone, and Charli sent over several songs, including her initial take on “House.” “We spoke about the idea of a poem,” she added. “He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was… well, it made my cry.”

The unsettling video shows Charli and Cale isolated together in a remote house, creating the vibe of a horror movie. It includes a spoken-word poem by Cale. “Can I speak to you privately for a moment,” he says. “I just want to explain/Explain the circumstances I find myself in/What and who I really am/I’m a prisoner/To live for eternity.”

“House” is one of several Charli XCX songs that will appear on the Wuthering Heights soundtrack. The project began a year ago when Fennell reached out to see if she’d write a single song for the movie, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

Trending Stories

“I read the script and immediately felt inspired so Finn Keane and I began working on not just one but many songs that we felt connected to the world she was creating,” Charli wrote. “After being so in the depths of my previous album I was excited to escape into something entirely new, entirely opposite. When I think of Wuthering Heights I think of many things. I think of passion and pain. I think of England. I think of the Moors, I think of the mud and the cold. I think of determination and grit.”

The Wuthering Heights soundtrack is one of many projects that Charli XCX has in the works. She’s also star to star in Daniel Goldhaber’s Faces of Death, Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights of Hero, Romain Gavras’s Sacrifice, and Pete Ohs’s Erupcja.

Charli xcx, John Cale Team For ‘Wuthering Heights’

Charli xcx has let the cat out of the bag regarding her contributions to the upcoming remake of Wuthering Heights, for which her songs will also double as her next album. The first single from the project is “House” featuring 83-year-old Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale, which will be out Monday (Nov. 10). The film, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, hits theaters on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14),

“I got a call from Emerald Fennell last Christmas asking whether I would consider working on a song for her adaptation of Wuthering Heights,” Charli wrote on Instagram. “I read the script and immediately felt inspired, so Finn Keane and I began working on not just one but many songs that we felt connected to the world she was creating. After being so in the depths of my previous album [2024’s massive hit brat], I was excited to escape into something entirely new, entirely opposite.”

The artist had separately become “really taken” with Todd Haynes’ 2021 self-titled Velvet Underground documentary and said she kept coming back to a phrase uttered therein by Cale: “any song has to be both elegant and brutal.” “I got really stuck on that phrase. I wrote it down in my Notes app and would pull it up from time to time and think about what he meant,” she recalled.

The opportunity to set it to music came in late April when Charli was on tour in Austin, Texas. “Finn and I went to the studio and wrote the bones for a song that would eventually become ‘House.’ When the summer ended, I was still ruminating on John’s words. So, I decided to reach out to him to get his opinion on the songs that his phrase had so deeply inspired, but also to see whether he might want to collaborate on any,” she said.

After the pair spoke on the phone (“wow … that voice, so elegant, so brutal”), Charli sent Cale sone of the songs. “We started talking specifically about ‘House.’ We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was … well, it made me cry.”

Wuthering Heights is the first of several high-profile film projects in the works for Charli, led by the A24 film The Moment, which is based on her original idea by Charli and will also star the U.K. pop maven. It will feature Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Kylie Jenner, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, Arielle Dombasle and Hailey Benton Gates and is due in theaters next year.

She has additional acting roles in Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex and a remake of the 1978 schlock horror classic Faces of Death.

Lorde Brings Out Charli XCX for ‘Girl, So Confusing’ in L.A.: Watch

The singers delivered the song’s remix at Kia Forum on Saturday

Lorde and Charli XCX worked it out on the remix live last night, with a surprise performance of their collaborative version of Charli XCX’s “Girl, So Confusing.”

At Lorde’s Ultrasound World Tour stop at Kia Forum in Los Angeles Saturday, the singer invited Charli XCX out during the encore. Lorde gave the audience a clue what was coming when she wrote the word “Girl” and underlined it on the palm of her hand, as fan footage shows.

Appearing on a small platform in the middle of the audience, Lorde started singing the song as a video displayed on the main stage screen showed footage of Charli, who turned out to be on the Kia Forum’s main floor. Charli then launched into her first verse. She walked through the audience and made her way to the platform, where the pair performed the Brat and It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat track together, delivering an energized, dance-fueled performance.

The duo previously performed the remix together during Charli’s co-headlining Sweat Tour with Troye Sivan in 2024, and earlier this year, they teamed up to perform it during Charli’s appearance at Coachella in April.

Trending Stories

A year after the remix’s release, and the song’s complicated female friendship narrative, which they address in their confessional collaborative version, continues to resonate not only between the artists and their fans, but with other female artists, too. In September, Hinds, who has been covering the remix version on tour, released a video for their spin on the track.

Lorde’s tour continues through the U.S. with three more stops — she plays Berkeley tonight before continuing on to Portland and Seattle. She then heads to the Europe and the U.K. She concludes the 2025 portion of the tour with a pair of shows in Brooklyn at Barclays Center on Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.

Charli xcx Hits the 2025 Academy Museum Gala—and the Lorde Show—in One Night

She’s everywhere, she’s so Julia!

It doesn’t take an LA geography whiz to know that Charli xcx covered a lot of ground this past Saturday night, shuttling between The Kia Forum and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Before her surprise performance of “Girl, so confusing” with Lorde at the Kiwi singer’s Inglewood show, Charli stopped by the 2025 Academy Museum Gala—in custom Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, no less.

“It was sort of like back and forth from The Forum to the gala, which was a bit hectic,” Charli says. The soundtrack to her whirlwind getting-ready process inside the Forum? The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

While Charli recently attended the premiere of Erupcja at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Academy Gala unofficially signifies her movie star turn. (Also on the docket is her forthcoming A24 film, The Moment, a fictionalized account of Brat Summer, co-starring Alexander Skarsgård.) As anyone who follows her Letterboxd knows well, Charli is an avid cinephile. Her favorite recent watches? Jim Jarmusch’s Permanent Vacation and the forthcoming Marty Supreme “I will say Marty Supreme is the best film I’ve seen recently. Hands down,” she says. “It blew me away. It’s a film with so much passion. I was completely knocked out by it.”

What better way to mark her movie star style in the nexus of the film industry than in a custom gown based on Saint Laurent’s fall 2025 collection, complete with a sheer lace top and drop-waist leather ball skirt? “My stylist Chris Horan and I knew we wanted to work with Anthony on a dress for me with that kind of shape—we were just looking for the right moment,” Charli tells Vogue. “When the Academy Gala came up, we immediately thought of the shape but we all decided that to make the dress out of leather would be this extra unexpected twist on top. I completely love it.”

Here, Charli xcx brings Vogue along for the ride from The Forum to the 2025 Academy Gala.

Charli XCX Makes Surprise SNL Appearance During Role Model Song

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Charli XCX wasn’t supposed to be Saturday Night Live‘s musical guest, but that didn’t stop her from making a surprise appearance on the late night show Saturday night.

Role Model, who served as the official musical guest of the second episode of season 51, hit the stage where he performed a rendition of his track, “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out.” When performing the song at his live shows, the artist typically brings out a special guest of his own, known better to fans as the “Sally girl.”

In the past, Role Model has chosen artists like Conan Gray and Charli XCX’s dear friend and Sweat Tour co-headliner Troye Sivan to serve the role. The two have taken joking jabs at one another on social media due to faux “Sally girl” drama, which included Role Model featuring the “Rush” singer during one of his shows.

However, it appeared Charli XCX and Role Model officially worked it out on the remix (or SNL stage) as she delivered a surprise cameo during his performance of the beloved song. Eagle-eyed fans also pointed out that the “360” singer wore the same shirt Role Model had on during promo shots that were released earlier this week for the episode. The shirt read, “max’s kansas city.”

The “Look At That Woman” singer made his SNL debut on Saturday night, where he was joined by host Amy Poehler. The second episode of season 51 proved to be a star-studded night in terms of appearances, as former cast members Tina Fey and Seth Meyers also made unanticipated cameos.

Charli XCX hosted SNL for the first time last year, where she also doubled as musical guest. The Grammy winner is known to spotlight fans and (sometimes) surprise celebrities during special segments of her concerts. Set to her track “Apple,” Charli XCX regularly picks a concertgoer or public figure to be platformed on the big screen of her shows, where they often recite the popular TikTok dance to the tune of her song.

Her SNL appearance comes amid speculation of an alleged feud with Taylor Swift. The latter singer’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, featured a track entitled “Actually Romantic,” which some fans believe is a response to Charli XCX’s 2024 track “Sympathy is a knife.”

Watch Role Model Bring Out Charli XCX for ‘Sally, When the Wine Runs Out’

by jummy84 October 12, 2025

Role Model debuts on the late night show performing his viral hit with help from the British pop star, plus another song from his latest album

Singer-songwriter Role Model debuted as Saturday Night Live musical guest with two songs from the deluxe edition of Kansas Anymore, his second studio album, which he released in February.

After an introduction from SNL host Amy Poehler, the 28-year-old Maine native opened with “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.” In live performances of the indie pop hit, Role Model has often invited a fan, another musician, or some other special guest to play the part of Sally. Here, it was Charli XCX.

The British pop singer—SNL‘s musical guest last November—received wild screams of approval from the audience. After dancing and swirling her hair to the song’s bridge, she slid her sunglasses onto Role Model’s face, blew him a kiss, then strutted away.

Role Model’s second performance was of the more mellow “Some Protector.”

The artist, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, has said his latest album, which follows 2022’s Rx, is a big step forward.

“I think the one thing I wanted to prove when I first put it out was my growth — my songwriting and my taste in music had matured, and I had also matured as a person,” he told Rolling Stone in a revealing April interview. “It felt like a big shift in the way I would talk about things and write about them, and a big part of that was just me getting to a place on guitar where I could play well enough that I could write songs by myself on it.”

Role Model, who opened for Gracie Abrams last year and then headlined his No Place Like Tour this spring, will be one of the four artists at Rolling Stone‘s Musicians on Musicians live event Oct. 23 at New York’s Beacon Theatre. He will be paired with María Zardoya of the Marias, while Jack Antonoff will join Hayley Williams with Bleachers, for conversations and collaborative performances on stage. SNL‘s James Austin Johnson will host.

Role Model begins a stretch of European shows next month.

The A24 film The Moment, which is based on an original idea by Charli XCX and will also star the U.K. pop maven, has revealed its additional cast. Due in theaters next year, the movie will feature Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Kylie Jenner, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, Arielle Dombasle and Hailey Benton Gates.

The Moment is directed by Aidan Zamiri, who is making his feature debut after previously working with Charli xcx on such videos as “Guess” and “360” and helping steer the overall look of her BRAT campaign. He also wrote the screenplay in tandem with Bertie Brandes. The score was penned by A.G. Cook., who will act in the film with fellow artist Shygirl.

Per Deadline, The Moment “follows a rising pop star as she navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena-tour debut.”

It joins an impressive roster of upcoming film projects for Charli XCX, including acting roles in Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex and a remake of the 1978 schlock horror classic Faces of Death. The artist will also contribute original songs to a remake of Wuthering Heights, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.

Is Charli XCX About to Drop a Taylor Swift Response Song? Fans Think So

by jummy84 October 6, 2025

Sympathy is a knife—and Charli XCX may be sharpening hers. On October 4, the 33-year-old pop star shared a clip that has fans bracing for more Taylor Swift discourse.

In case you haven’t listened to this year’s most-streamed album in a single day on Spotify or been on the internet over the weekend, here’s a brief rundown on what you need to know: Back in the summer of 2023, Swift briefly dated Matty Healy who is in The 1975 with Charli XCX’s husband, George Daniel. A year later, Charlie XCX released the Brat track “Sympathy is a Knife,” which grapples with her insecurities over the success of another female artist in close proximity.

“Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show,” she sings on the track. “Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick.” Another line from the song:

At the time, Taylor Swift publicly praised Charli XCX for the success of the album, but fans of both artists think her new song, “Actually Romantic,” reveals bad blood. For example, Swift sings that her subject “wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face” and “high-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me.”

There seem to be more connections between the two songs, which you can read about here.

Reaction to the supposed diss track have been mixed, with some criticizing Swift for “missing the point” of “Sympathy Is a Knife,” while others have defended Swift, suggesting there’s more to the pop stars’ complicated history than a single song. You can read about all that here.

Now that you’re all caught up, let’s get to the update. On October 5, Charli XCX posted an image of a recording studio alongside five seconds of sharp, ominous audio. She didn’t add any more context, simply captioning the post with a heart.

Charli XCX Posts Cryptic Video Amid Rumored Taylor Swift Feud

by jummy84 October 5, 2025

The opening song on Taylor Swift‘s The Life of a Showgirl references the character Ophelia from William Shakespeare‘s Hamlet, who faces a tragic fate.

According to the song’s lyrics, Taylor “might’ve drowned in the melancholy” if she hadn’t been saved by her true love.

“I heard you calling / On the megaphone,” Taylor sings. “You wanna see me all alone.”

The lyrics appear to be a nod to Travis Kelce calling Taylor out on his New Heights podcast for not meeting him at her Eras Tour, which is how their romance began.

“I swore loyalty to me, myself and I,” the lyrics continue. “Right before you lit my sky up.”

Before meeting Travis, Taylor was fresh off a breakup from Matty Healy, having declared herself one of the “independent girlies” in July 2023.

But after Travis went to her concert in Kansas City that same month, sparks began to fly.

Now, Taylor’s fiancé is even in on her Easter egg game, teasing “The Fate of Ophelia” lyrics on Instagram back in July. (Had some adventures this offseason,” he captioned pics with Taylor, adding, “Kept it [100].”)

How does that connect to Taylor’s song? Well, as the lyrics go, “You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia / Keep it one hundred.”

Song name – Sympathy is a Knife
Singer – Charli XCX

Check out Sympathy is a knife Song Lyrics by Charli xcx

I don’t wanna share the space
I don’t wanna force a smile
This one girl taps my insecurities
Don’t know if it’s real or if I’m spiraling
One voice tells me that they laugh
George says I’m just paranoid
Says he just don’t see it, he’s so naive
I’m embarrassed to have it, but need the sympathy

‘Cause I couldn’t even be her if I tried
I’m opposite, I’m on the other side
I feel all these feelings I can’t control
Oh no, don’t know why
All this sympathy is just a knife (Why?)
Why I can’t even grit my teeth and lie (Why?)
I feel all these feelings I can’t control (Why?)
Oh no, don’t know

Why I wanna buy a gun
Why I wanna shoot myself
Volatilе at war with my dialogue
I’d say that there was a God if thеy could stop this
Wild voice tearin’ me apart
I’m so apprehensive now
Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show
Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick

‘Cause I couldn’t even be her if I tried (Why?)
I’m opposite, I’m on the other side (Why?)
I feel all these feelings I can’t control (Why?)
Oh no, don’t know why
All this sympathy is just a knife (Why?)
Why I can’t even grit my teeth and lie (Why?)
I feel all these feelings I can’t control (Why?)
Oh no

All this sympathy is just a knife (Why?)
All this sympathy is just a knife (Why?)
All this sympathy is just a knife (Why?)
Yeah, all this sympathy is just a knife (Why?)
Oh no, oh no
Why is all this sympathy a fucking knife? (Why?)
Yeah, all this sympathy is just a knife (Why?)
Couldn’t even be her if I tried
Oh no, oh no
