Exclusive: Nikkhil Advani Speaks About Sabar Bonda’s Sundance Win: “It Marks a Turning Point”

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Rohan Kanawade’s maiden film feature Sabar Bonda is slated for a theatrical release on September 19, 2025. Executive producer Nikkhil Advani spoke about the movie, its prestigious win at the Sundance Film Festival and more. For those unaware, the movie won the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema: Dramatic category at the festival.

Nikkhil opened up about it, saying, “To become the first-ever Indian fiction feature to win at Sundance is not just a milestone, it marks a turning point for Indian cinema on the global stage.”

He further added, “What Sabar Bonda has achieved is historic. Sundance is where some of the most iconic voices of world cinema – Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, the Coen Brothers were first discovered, and now, through Rohan and Sabar Bonda, India stands on that same map of discovery and credibility.”

He added, “What makes this moment truly special is that the honour has gone to a story like Sabar Bonda, a film that portrays India with rare honesty and affection, an India where tradition and progress co-exist. It is a story deeply rooted in our soil, yet utterly universal in its resonance.”

Talking about the writer and director Rohan Kanawade, Nikkhil said, “Rohan Kanawade represents the very best of a new generation of storytellers. His journey from humble beginnings to the world’s most prestigious stage is a reminder of why we make films: to connect, to move, to endure. As an Executive Producer, I am honoured to back his vision, but more than that, as an Indian filmmaker, I feel immense pride in what Sundance Grand Jury Prize win means for all of us. This is not just Rohan’s victory, it is India’s.”

Interestingly, the trailer of the movie was launched today at a special press event in Mumbai. The film is distributed by Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, which previously distributed the acclaimed Cannes Grand Prix winner All We Imagine as Light in India.

Sabar Bonda

Now, acclaimed filmmakers Nagraj Manjule, Nikkhil Advani, Saie Tamhankar and Vikramaditya Motwane have come on board as Executive Producers for the movie.

‘Adolescence’ & ‘Severance’ Win At Seoul International Drama Awards

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Adolescence and Severance have backed up big nights at the Emmys by securing major prizes at the Seoul International Drama Awards.

Netflix’s acclaimed limited series won the Grand Prize, Best Director for Philip Barantini and Best Actor for Owen Cooper, who made history on Sunday by becoming the youngest ever male winner of a Primetime Emmy. Barantini shared his award with Hirokazu Kore-eda, who won for Asura, the Netflix Japan miniseries about four sisters.

Ben Stiller took home the Golden Bird Prize for Apple TV+’s Severance Season 2, which just won eight times at the Emmys. The award goes to shows have significantly made an impact on the drama industry, and Best Screenwriter. Last year, Park Chan-wook won for HBO series The Sympathizer.

The Seoul organizing committee said that despite being just 15 years old (and 13 at the time of filming), Adolescence star Cooper had “showcased extraordinary acting talent, establishing himself as one of the most promising next-generation actors.”

It added that Stiller’s “creative and outstanding direction best reflects the Seoul Drama Awards’ mission of presenting works that deepen understanding of humanity and inspire reflection on the path toward harmony.” Dan Erickson also won Best Screenwriter.

Severance explores what happens to a person when their identity is split between their ‘Innie’ work self and ‘Outie’ personal self at a creepy biotech company Lumen Industries. Made by Red Hour Productions, Fifth Season, Westward and Animals & People, it stars the likes of Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower and Tramell Tillman.

The four-part Adolescence follows the aftermath of the murder of a schoolgirl on the family of the child accused of the crime, with each episode shot as one continuous take. Cooper stars alongside the likes of co-writer Stephen Graham, Christine Tremarco, Ashley Walters and Erin Doherty. Warp Films is the producer for Netflix.

Pachinko Season 2 made it an ever better night for Apple TV+ by taking home the Best Miniseries and Best Actress for Minha Kim. She shared the prize with Cate Blanchett, for Disclaimer, another Apple show. Best on Min Jin Lee’s book, Pachinko explores the generational experiences of a Japanese family from the colonial period to the present, charting their migration journeys. Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer follows a famed documentary journalist, who learns a dark secret of her own is being fictionalized in a novel.

Elsewhere at the Seoul awards last night, Netflix won several K-drama awards, including Outstanding Korean Drama in the K-Drama Competition category for webtoon adaptation The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call and elevated romance When Life Gives You Tangerines. Ji-hoon Ju won Outstanding Korean Actor for his role in Trauma Code, while IU won the Outstanding Korean Actress award for Tangerines.

Turkish drama The Good & The Bad, from Ay Yapim and for free-TV network Show, won Best Series. Starring Aras Bulut Iynemli and Uğur Polat, it follows a genius mathematician struggling to confront his father’s dangerous schemes.

Best TV Movie went to CJ ENM’s The Son, while Outstanding Asia Star went to several actors, including Seonho Kim for The Tyrant and Newtopia, Yu Bair for Bank on Me and Daniel Padilla for Incognito. Youngtak won the song category Outstanding Korean Drama O.S.T. for the contribution to KBS drama For Eagle Brothers.

A ceremony for 20th Seoul International Drama Awards will be held on October 2 via SBS TV and the awards’ official YouTube channel. Jury members this year included CAA agent Nicolas Lafferty, KBA drama producer Sinil Kim, director Yang Leo and TV Globo’s drama exec producer, Luciana Monteiro.

The Bear quickly hit stardom for its raw storytelling of what goes on behind the scenes at a restaurant. Through its mix of tearful scenes to witty moments, the FX and Hulu show has been nominated in the comedy category at the Emmy Awards every year. So, did The Bear win any Emmys at the 2025 awards ceremony?

Was The Bear Nominated for Any 2025 Emmys?

Yes, The Bear was nominated in the following categories at the 2025 Emmy Awards: Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeremy Allen White), Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Ayo Edebiri), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Liza Colón-Zayas) and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Ayo).

Did The Bear Win Any Emmys at the 2025 Ceremony?

No, The Bear did not take home a single Emmy Award this year, but an Emmy win does not make or break a show’s success.

The FX and Hulu series has taken home a generous amount of Emmy Awards in the past in the categories of Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

Television’s biggest night returned with the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, celebrating the best in television from standout stories, performances and creators of the year.

Comedian Nate Bargatze hosted the ceremony for the very first time and he was also nominated for his variety special, Your Friend, Nate Bargatze.

Ahead of the ceremony, Severance dominated the field with 27 Emmy nominations, while The Studio led comedy nominees with a record-breaking 23 nominations — the most-ever for a comedy series in its first season.

Canadian actor Seth Rogen, who co-created the series with longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg, was a triple threat on Emmys night, taking home awards for acting, writing and directing

Rogen took home the first award of the night for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in The Studio.

“I’ve never won anything in my life. When I was a kid I bought a used bowling trophy at an estate sale,” he said during his acceptance speech for his first-ever Emmy win.

Viewers also got a Gilmore Girls reunion as Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham took the stage to announce the award for Best Writing for a Comedy Series, which was awarded to Rogen, Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory and Frida Perez for The Studio.

The Studio continued to dominate as it was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.

“I’m legitimately embarrassed by how happy this makes me,” said Rogen.

Rogen’s four wins, along with nine claimed at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys, broke a record set last year by The Bear with 11 for the most wins by a comedy series in a single season.

Tramell Tillman became the first Black man to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Severance. Backstage, Tillman applauded the scores of Black actors that came before him, including the late Andre Braugher and Michael K. Williams.

“I’ve been taken by their work for years and I’ve borrowed from them, so I’m just honoured to be in the class,” said Tillman.

The six wins for Netflix’s acclaimed Adolescence, the story of a 13-year-old in Britain accused of a killing, included Best Actor for co-creator Stephen Graham, and Best Supporting Actor for 15-year-old Owen Cooper.

Cooper became the youngest Supporting Actor in a Limited Series winner in over 40 years. Roxana Zal was the youngest ever at age 14 when she won Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Special for the TV movie Something About Amelia in 1984.

“I was nothing about three years ago, and now here I am,” Cooper told the crowd. “Step out of your comfort zone a little, who cares if you get embarrassed.”

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (airing on Global on weeknights at 11:30 p.m. ET) took home the Emmy award for Best Variety Talk Series.

Colbert thanked CBS for “giving us the privilege to be part of the late-night tradition, which I hope continues long after we’re no longer doing this show.”

His comments come after it was announced that The Late Show would be ending after a 33-year run next May.

“Stay strong. Be brave. And if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor,” said the 61-year-old comic.

Colbert received a standing ovation for his talk series win and when he was done talking, the crowd got back on its feet.

Jimmy Kimmel walked away with a trophy at Sunday night’s (September 7) 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards and used his acceptance speech to thank the late Regis Philbin.

The late-night host won the Emmy for Outstanding Host For A Game Show for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, beating out Jeopardy!‘s Ken Jennings, Pop Culture Jeopardy!‘s Colin Jost, Celebrity Family Feud‘s Steve Harvey, and Press Your Luck‘s Elizabeth Banks.

After collecting the trophy, Kimmel praised Millionaire‘s original host, Philbin, who won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host back in 2001. Kimmel said Philbin, who died in 2020, was “watching over all of us right now,” per Deadline.

He spoke more about Philbin backstage, telling the press, “Regis was the best at this. I don’t think the show would still be on the air if Regis hadn’t hosted it to start with. He was such an unusual pick at the time. I don’t think people remember that because it became such a big sensation, not just a hit, but like a cultural phenomenon. So people didn’t think about how Regis was a very unlikely choice.”

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host went on to say how Philbin was “always nice” to him, adding, “It’s exciting to have this [award] and to know that he has this same Emmy somewhere in his family’s collection as well.”

During his speech, Kimmel also thanked the show’s executive producer, Michael Davies, who was also the producer on Win Ben Stein’s Money, the late 1990s Comedy Central game show that won Kimmel his first Emmy.

In recent years, Kimmel won Emmys for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for his Live in Front of a Studio Audience collaborations with Norman Lear. The specials saw recreations of some of Lear’s classic sitcoms, including All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, The Facts of Life, and Diff’rent Strokes.

When asked backstage whether he would do another Live in Front of a Studio Audience, Kimmel suggested it wouldn’t feel right to do it without Lear, who passed away in December 2023. “It would be too emotional to do it without Norman Lear, you know, I don’t know if my heart could take it,” he shared.

Kimmel, who signed a three-year deal with ABC in 2022, was also asked about his future in late-night and whether he’s thought about retirement.

“I’m not prepared to answer that question,” he responded. “It’s something I think about a lot. Things have changed a lot over the last few years, over the last nine years, I guess, and each day is a new adventure, and I kind of take them as they come.”

Unless you don’t have a TikTok account, you probably know that Cardi B was on trial against a security guard over assault allegations — and the court case has gone viral on social media. The 32-year-old music artist didn’t hold her tongue while testifying, and her sassy remarks made headlines. As fans wait for updates on the case, the jury reached a verdict in the afternoon on September 2.

Hollywood Life has the latest updates on Cardi B’s trial verdict below.

Why Was Cardi B on Trial? Attack Allegations Explained

Cardi B was accused by security guard Emani Ellis of assaulting her in 2018 at an obstetrician’s office in Beverly Hills, California. Cardi  alleged that Ellis was recording her without consent in the office and instead there was no physical altercation — only a verbal argument. At the time, the “WAP” rapper was pregnant, and she wanted to keep it private.

“She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her,” Cardi claimed on the stand. “She didn’t touch me. She was going to touch me, but she didn’t get to touch me.”

Ellis denied filming Cardi B and claimed the argument turned physical, alleging that Cardi spat on her and cut her cheek with her fingernails. Ellis is suing Cardi for $24 million in damages.

Can I Watch the Cardi B Trial Live?

Yes. While major cable news networks are not livestreaming the trial, multiple livestreams are available on YouTube.

Cardi B’s Trial Verdict: Was She Found Guilty?

Rolling Stone reported on September 2 that a verdict had been determined in Cardi B’s case, but the details are still unclear at the time of publication. Per the publication, the jury — consisting of six men and six women — began deliberations at 2:15 p.m. that day and submitted a note at 3:15 declaring they had reached a verdict.

The jury found Cardi B not liable on all charges in the civil suit, according to ABC News.

Cardi B’s trial went viral on TikTok after she mouthed off on the stand more than once. Fans especially cackled at the moments when she held nothing back, including profanities, while repeating what she allegedly said to Ellis.

“I said b**ch get the f**k out my face. Why are you in my face?” Cardi said. “Why are you recording me? Ain’t you supposed to be security?”

After being questioned why she felt worried during her argument with Ellis, Cardi claimed it was because “this girl’s about to f**king beat my ass! Hello?”

The Grammy Award winner’s facial expressions and reactions also sparked laughter in the courtroom, as seen in multiple TikTok clips. One of the most viral moments came when she corrected a lawyer who asked why her hair had changed from black to platinum blonde. After chuckling for a moment, Cardi said, “They’re wigs.”

When Is the Cardi B Trial Over?

The trial was expected to end sometime in the second week of September. However, since a verdict was reached by the afternoon on September 2, the trial should end this week.

Naomi Osaka Defeats Coco Gauff At US Open, Scores Major Win

Naomi Osaka smiled before her US Open showdown against Coco Gauff began on Labor Day (Sept. 1) — and after it ended. Between points, Osaka patted her left thigh and quietly told herself, almost in a whisper: “Come on. Come on.” Ultimately, that encouragement led her to reach her first major quarterfinal in over four and a half years.

What Naomi Osaka Said After Winning Against Coco Gauff

Once the ball was in play, Osaka’s strokes were loud and on-target. According to the Associated Press, the tennis champ had the confident, consistent, and power-swinging tennis that carried her to four Grand Slam titles and the No. 1 ranking. Monday’s game was Naomi’s biggest statement yet that she is back on top of her game. She’s previously taken time for her mental health and new motherhood.  In the Labor Day US Open match, Naomi Osaka eliminated Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

“I was super locked-in, to be honest. I was really locked in,” Naomi Osaka said. “I felt like everyone wanted to watch a really great match, and I hope that’s what you got.”

Details About Each Player’s Game Energy

According to the AP, Naomi Osaka brought her A-game in Monday’s match, while Coco Gauff was on B-game. Coco, for example, made repeated mistakes on the court that cost her. She finished with 33 unforced errors — way more than Naomi Osaka’s 12.

Additionally, her body language was reportedly different from Osaka’s. Coco Gauff came out jittery at the start. Her problematic serve was fine; other strokes were the problem. Also, Gauff repeatedly put her palms up, covered her face with a hand, or gestured toward her team in the stands. At points, she looked confused or upset.

Meanwhile, Osaka’s serving and returning were terrific. She won 32 of the 38 points she served — 15 of 16 when first serves landed in. She also never faced a single break point and converted all four break chances she earned.

Ultimately, AP writes that the key difference between the tennis players is that Naomi Osaka used her big forehand, her best stroke, to go after Coco Gauff’s forehand, her worst stroke. The strategy clearly paid off. By the end of the first set, Coco Gauff had made 16 unforced errors and Osaka only five. By the end of the match, 20 of Gauff’s unforced errors were off the forehand side.

Naomi Has Won Against Coco Before

It was at the French Open in 2021, after the Australian Open, that Naomi Osaka helped spark a global conversation about mental health. At the time, she revealed she felt anxiety and depression and took a series of breaks from the tour.

Before winning against Coco, Naomi’s most recent trophy at Melbourne Park was the last time she had made it to the fourth round at any major in recent years. The first came at Flushing Meadows in 2023, and the second at the French Open this June. Osaka returned to the tour last season after a 17-month maternity leave. Her child, Shai, was born in July 2023.

“I’m a little sensitive, and I don’t want to cry, but, honestly, I just had so much fun out here,” said Osaka.

Naomi Osaka first played Coco Gauff back at the 2019 US Open and won that one, too.“I was in the stands like two months after I gave birth to my daughter, watching Coco. I just really wanted an opportunity to come out here and play,” Osaka told the crowd on Monday. “This is my favorite court in the world, and it means so much for me to be back here.

Coco Gauff Says Simone Biles Inspired Her US Open Win

Coco Gauff is one of the sports world’s most prominent rising faces, and she further cemented her star power at this year’s US Open. The Georgia-born talent won her second round match in straight sets against Donna Vekić on Thursday (Aug. 28) and said fellow athlete Simone Biles was her inspiration through the tough matchup.

During a difficult first set, Gauff was left in tears as she fought through the building pressure. The world No. 3-ranked player pushed through and wrapped the match up 7-6(5), 6-2. She became emotional again during her her post-match interview and took the time to acknowledge and thank Biles who was watching in the stands.

“She helped me pull it out. I was just thinking if she can go on a six-inch beam and do that under all the pressure of the world, then I can hit the ball on [this court],” Gauff said.

She said thinking about the trials and tribulations the Olympic gold medalist went through was what gave her the motivation to secure her victory. “It brought me a little bit of calm, just knowing her story with all the things she went through mentally, so she’s an inspiration surely and her presence definitely did help me today,” she added. The camera then panned over to Biles in the crowd who cheered and shouted, “Love you!” Watch the moment below.

During her road to becoming one of the most decorated gymnasts in the world, Biles faced her own set of peaks and valleys. In 2021, she withdrew from several individual events at the Tokyo Olympics after she decided to prioritize her mental health.

Gauff currently leads the WTA Tour with 320 double faults so far this season. She told reporters that she’s feeling confident her performance will be on an upwards trajectory moving forward. “It’s been tough doing it all over and kind of refactoring everything, a motion that I knew very well,” she said, per CNN. “But I know for the future this is the right step forward, and this is the biggest test of them all. It will only get easier from here.”
