13 Best White Sneakers for Women 2025, Reviewed by Our Editors

How we chose the best white sneakers

Material: Canvas and leather shoes are durable and easy to clean with a few wipes, meaning they’re good investments. We also love suede for its durability and soft texture; to keep it pristine during rainy conditions, though, you’ll have to use a protective spray.

Comfort: If you’re mostly walking, Chanel Perkins, DPM, a board-certified podiatrist, recommends shoes that offer stiff arch support and flexibility at the forefoot; if you’re shopping for running shoes, look for the opposite. Cushioned soles, memory foam midsole, and thick outsoles are ideal features for nurses’ shoes. Otherwise, kicks that are lightweight and made with breathable materials are great if you’re on your feet all day.

Price: Sneakers must be replaced semi-frequently (podiatrists recommend every six months to a year, and say that if the rubber sole is worn down, it’s time to replace them), which is why we love a relatively cheap pair. But that doesn’t mean a splurge is out of the question—as long as the design and the quality justify the higher price. We split shoes into three categories:

Walkability: We also looked closely at how comfortable these shoes are to walk in. Do they give shoe bites or blisters? Are they uncomfortable to travel with when sporting them for days on end?

Glamour’s white sneakers FAQs

How to choose the best white sneakers for your personal style

Picking the right pair of white sneakers comes down to understanding how you want to wear them. For example, old-school sporty sneakers like Reebok Club C 85s look great with tailored trousers and button-downs. If you’re hunting down a pair that looks good with dresses, pick something a little more minimalist and grounded, like the classic Adidas Sambas. And anyone who wears gym-ready outfits most of the time should have a great pair of workout shoes on hand; we suggest the super-popular Lululemon Beyondfeels.

How to clean white sneakers

If you have canvas shoes, they can be put in the washing machine; if you have leather or suede shoes, stick to spot-cleaning. We recommend using a toothbrush and dish soap for mud, grass, and spills—a little patience goes a long way. But remember, white sneakers often look best with at least a little scuffing and staining.

How to style white sneakers

Styling white sneakers is as easy as throwing them on with whatever you’re wearing—they’re that versatile. But if you’d like to go a little more elevated, the experts have a few tips: “I like to style classic white sneakers with unexpected pairings,” says Caroline Maguire, Shopbop’s fashion director. “For example, I’ll throw a pair on with a white T-shirt, a black tulle skirt, or a midi-length slip dress. I love the contrast and comfort all in one.” (Call it wrong-shoe theory.) Of course, you can also just throw on some trusty leggings and call it a day—we promise you’ll look good.

A Tribute to the White House Movie Theater, Now Demolished

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

The history of movie screenings in the White House did not begin auspiciously.

On February 18, 1915, D.W. Griffith unspooled his three-hour “The Birth of a Nation” in the East Room of the White House to a rhapsodic response. The then-president, Woodrow Wilson, was a defender of the Confederacy and peddled “Lost Cause” propaganda, and he was literally quoted three times in the film itself, including a remark in which he praised the Ku Klux Klan.

It’s generally accepted that after that screening Wilson said of Griffith’s film, immediately controversial upon release as it has been ever since, that it was “like writing history with lightning.” If this choice as the first movie ever projected inside the White House is lamentable, take heart in knowing that there was a previous screening outside on the lawn of the 1914 Italian silent masterpiece “Cabiria” that was the very first movie shown on the grounds full-stop.

Johnny Depp, Ti West, and Andrea Riseborough

These screenings kicked off a history of moviegoing at the White House that has continued ever since, culminating with the conversion of an East Wing cloakroom into the White House Family Theater, an on-site cinema, in 1942.

Well, it was a history that lasted until October 2025. The movie theater was razed this week as part of the Trump administration’s demolition of the entire East Wing to make way for a proposed $300 million ballroom. A lot of history was lost this week, but the movie theater was part of it — and it shouldn’t be forgotten.

Capable of seating 42, the White House Family Theater came about at a moment when the Franklin Roosevelt administration recognized the unique power movies held over the public. This was a time when the average moviegoer went to the cinema twice per week. And as America lurched ever closer to entering World War II, despite national polls showing the American public was extremely isolationist and that Charles Lindbergh’s “America First” rhetoric had taken root, Roosevelt recognized that closer ties with the American movie industry might be in the government’s best interest. When the U.S. finally entered the war, Roosevelt said, “Entertainment is always a national asset. Invaluable in time of peace, it is indispensable in wartime.”

Creating a Bureau of Motion Pictures, Roosevelt also transformed part of the White House’s East Wing in order to screen films as a way of gauging the national mood. As the White House Historical Association puts it, “In 1942, Roosevelt ordered an East Terrace cloakroom called the ‘Hat Box’ converted into a movie theater. Here the president enjoyed watching newsreels and took special interest in the battles fought in Europe and Asia.”

Since then, films screened in the White House Family Theater have been a matter of public record. The Washington D.C. rare books store Second Story Books has a handwritten log of many of the movies screened during the FDR, Truman, and Eisenhower administrations, and it’s an eclectic list. FDR watched Paul Robeson in “The Emperor Jones” along with many Marie Dressler comedies. Many Disney films were screened for younger members of the Roosevelt family. And he even took movies on the road, including the 1943 version of “The Phantom of the Opera” to that year’s Cairo Summit, and Howard Hawks’ masterpiece “To Have and Have Not” to Yalta. The final film FDR watched before his death was the Charles Laughton noir “The Suspect,” screened in March 1945 and with Crown Princess Juliana of Holland in attendance.

Decades before President Obama made the reveal of his favorite movies each year an annual event, a kind of White House to Oscars pipeline took hold, starting with a White House screening of 1948’s eventual best picture winner “Hamlet.” Eisenhower’s screening of “High Noon,” which he later declared a personal favorite, established that movie as a go-to answer for presidents or aspiring presidents when asked their favorite movie.

The D.C.-Hollywood connection was then forever set during the Kennedy Administration. On November 20, 1963, two days before his assassination, JFK watched the last movie he’d ever see, the second James Bond entry, “From Russia with Love” — he had declared Fleming’s original novel one of his top 10 favorite books.

Subsequent administrations would go so far as to keep official screening records of all the movies watched at the White House Family Theater in their respective presidential libraries (though the University of Chicago Press compiled all of Nixon’s screenings, which featured some contemporary titles but veered more toward Old Hollywood throwbacks). There are publicly accessible archives online through these libraries where you can see what exactly was screened for POTUS during the Reagan administration, Bill Clinton’s, and George W. Bush’s.

Jimmy Carter saw about 480 movies at the White House during his four-years in office, including a pre-Cannes screening of “Apocalypse Now” in May 1979 with Francis Ford Coppola in attendance. One screening of Ingmar Bergman’s “Autuma Sonata” apparently drew 48 White House staffers, beyond the Family Theater’s capacity. Carter’s moviegoing even extended to Camp David, where he arranged a screening for Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat of “Star Wars” that they watched together in the leadup to the historic summit that led to peace between Egypt and Israel. Paul Schrader’s “Hardcore”? Screened at the White House.

Moviegoing at the White House Family Theater arguably hit an all-time high during the Reagan years, not surprising given that the White House’s occupant was a former Hollywood movie star himself. But Reagan went a step further than his predecessors by leaving mini reviews of the movies he screened, as recalled in the memoir of his press secretary Mark Weinberg, titled “Movie Nights with the Reagans.” Reagan’s taste could be pretty wide-ranging, and for as much as he was a staunch anti-communist Reagan told Warren Beatty he wished his movie “Reds” had a happy ending.

Later on, Gwyneth Paltrow says that Bill Clinton dozed off and snored loudly during a screening of “Emma,” while Roland Emmerich recalled to THR how Bill Clinton watched the White House get blown up for a screening of “Independence Day.” George W. Bush took the White House Family Theater so seriously that he actually had the whole thing redecorated in movie theater red to look like an old movie palace. Barack Obama screened “La La Land,” and Donald Trump‘s first movie he watched there was “Finding Dory.”

Now, the White House Family Theater is no more.

bitchy | Donald Trump forgot to say that he’s demolishing the entire White House East Wing

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Months ago, Donald Trump announced his plan to build a gigantic, gaudy new “White House ballroom” on the east side of the WH campus. He actually said, repeatedly and on the record, that the plan was to build a big ballroom adjacent to the existing structure, and perhaps attach the ballroom to the mansion via some kind of breezeway. Like everything that comes out of that ugly orange man’s mouth, all of that was a lie. Several days ago, construction started on the ballroom. Scratch that – construction has NOT started, because they’re too busy demolishing the White House’s East Wing. On Wednesday, the White House confirmed that the entirety of the East Wing will be demolished by this weekend.

The White House is demolishing the entirety of the East Wing to make way for President Trump’s $200 million ballroom, a construction project that is far more extensive than he initially let on, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.

The tear-down should be finished by this weekend, according to the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the plans. When Mr. Trump first announced his plans for the ballroom, he pledged that the East Wing wouldn’t be touched by the construction.

“It’ll be views of the Washington Monument. It won’t interfere with the current building. It’ll be near it but not touching it,” the president said. “And pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of.”

But, upon further evaluation, the White House determined it was cheaper and more structurally sound to demolish the East Wing to construct the ballroom, rather than build an addition, the official said. The new structure will also have enhanced security features, the official said.

[From The NY Times]

The few wide-perspective shots of that side of the White House already showed just how extensive the project is, but it’s pretty crazy that Trump has been lying his ass off for months, and then mid-demolition, he’s like “oh year, we’re taking this whole thing down.” Historic preservationists are really upset, obviously:

Photos of construction teams knocking down parts of the East Wing, first revealed by The Washington Post on Monday, shocked preservationists, raised questions about White House overreach and lack of transparency, and sparked complaints from Democrats that President Donald Trump was damaging “the People’s House” to pursue a personal priority.

“They’re wrecking it,” said Martha Joynt Kumar, a political scientist and professor emeritus at Towson University in Maryland. “And these are changes that can’t be undone. They’re destroying that history forever.”

A White House spokesman said that the “entirety” of the East Wing would eventually be “modernized and rebuilt.”

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a nonprofit created by Congress to help preserve historic buildings, sent a letter Tuesday to administration officials, warning that the planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom “will overwhelm the White House itself,” which is about 55,000 square feet. “We respectfully urge the Administration and the National Park Service to pause demolition until plans for the proposed ballroom go through the legally required public review processes,” Carol Quillen, National Trust’s CEO, said in a statement, citing two federal commissions that have traditionally reviewed White House additions.

White House officials dismissed the criticism as “manufactured outrage,” arguing that past presidents had pursued their own changes to the executive campus as necessary. They said that the privately funded ballroom will be a “bold, necessary addition” to the presidential grounds.

“For more than a century, U.S. Presidents have been renovating, expanding, and modernizing the White House to meet the needs of the present day,” the White House’s rapid-response team posted on social media, listing examples of prior campus construction.

The Treasury Department on Monday evening instructed employees not to take or share photos of the construction project without permission, according to a person who spoke on the condition of anonymity to detail an internal email. The Treasury headquarters is next to the White House, with some of its offices providing a close view of the East Wing. But areas where the demolition is viewable are closed to the public, fueling criticism about the Trump administration’s lack of transparency.

One of the people who witnessed the demolition Tuesday said that views of the site from Treasury headquarters amplify the demolition, but a large part of the structure remained by late afternoon. However, it appeared that what remained was also headed for demolition, with no evidence that the structure was being protected and only jagged damage visible in the exposed building.

[From WaPo]

“U.S. Presidents have been renovating, expanding, and modernizing the White House to meet the needs of the present day.” Yeah, during the Cold War, the space UNDER the White House was dug out and filled with rooms/shelters and tunnels which could conceivably survive a massive bomb or terrorist attack. We’re not talking about security upgrades, nor are we talking about “Michelle Obama adding a vegetable garden.” Trump didn’t consult with anyone before ripping out the entire East Wing of the People’s House.

White House Rejects Report Trump Is Considering Commuting Diddy’s Sentence For ProStitution-Related Convictions

The #WhiteHouse is saying not so fast.

#Trump’s administration has denied a TMZ report claiming the president is considering commuting Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison sentence. The denial follows the publication’s citation of a “high-level White House official” who allegedly said clemency was being weighed for the Bad Boy Records founder. As reported, #Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in pro$titution; he was acquitted in July on the more serious s3x trafficking and racketeering charges.

While the White House has denied the claim, TMZ is standing by its story, updating the article with, “The White House Communications Office is saying our story is not true. We stand by our story. Our story is accurate.”

bitchy | Donald Trump ripped out the White House’s East Wing to make room for his ballroom

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

This year has been full of so many castrophically evil stories, almost all of which are happening because of Donald Trump and his fascist minions. It feels weird to complain about issues which are somewhat superficial, but I still find this stuff extremely depressing. Trump already paved over the White House Rose Garden, turning it into an outdoor dining pavilion similar to something you would find outside of a mall food court. But Trump’s biggest change to the White House is the destruction of the East Wing, all to build a massive “ballroom” on the White House complex. Well, Trump announced the ballroom plans months ago, and they broke ground on Monday.

President Donald Trump has begun demolishing the traditional work space of First Lady Melania Trump and her staff to make way for his “big, beautiful” ballroom. Two months after unveiling plans to build the 90,000-square foot ballroom, construction crews have begun tearing down the covered entrance of the East Wing, with cranes and backhoes attacking window frames and knocking away parts of the exterior cladding. Dramatic photos and videos revealed the first stage of the transformation on Monday, showing windows of the historic building smashed and ripped off their hinges.

The new ballroom is being built in the East Wing, which has long housed the offices for the first lady, whose staff have been temporarily relocated to other parts of the White House complex. The Daily Beast has reached out for confirmation as to where they are currently working from.

The former upper floor of White House calligraphy office now has a massive hole, while trees and shrubs have also been cleared from the White House South Lawn to make way for construction.

Trump acknowledged the project at an event in the East Room on Monday afternoon honoring the Louisiana State University baseball teams, telling his guests: “right on the other side, you have a lot of construction going on.”

He later posted on Truth Social declaring that “ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build the new, big, beautiful White House Ballroom. Completely separate from the White House itself, the East Wing is being fully modernized as part of this process, and will be more beautiful than ever when it is complete! For more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House to accommodate people for grand parties, State Visits, etc. I am honored to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project underway — with zero cost to the American Taxpayer!”

However, critics have noted that the ballroom, which is expected to cost at least $250 million, is being built at a time when many Americans are still struggling with cost-of-living pressures – something that Trump promised to fix.

[From The Daily Beast]

What I keep thinking about is the history, and how presidents for the past century have been so conscious of the unique history of the White House, and they see themselves as caretakers to the historic property, if nothing else. Sure, some of them made smaller renovations – I remember President Obama talking about how Harry Truman added a private balcony on the top floor, and it was one of Obama’s favorite spots. But none of them would have ripped out the East Wing and built a gaudy, tacky f–king ballroom. Even Trump’s hero Richard Nixon was in awe of the White House’s history and he took pains to never damage or disrupt the actual structure and the museum-quality pieces around the house.

Andrea Bocelli Serenades Trump, Will Return to White House in December

Back in 2016, Donald Trump tapped Andrea Bocelli to perform at his first inauguration before abruptly rescinding the invitation, reportedly to shield the famed tenor from backlash. On Friday, Bocelli stopped by the Oval Office and serenaded the US president, who announced the singer will return to the White House in December.

Trump advisor Margo Martin shared footage of the visit on social media. In typically gaudy fashion, Bocelli’s own music was blasted throughout the White House and even the Oval Office. The president then coaxed him into singing along, presumably without giving the opera star a chance to warm up.

Trump is a longtime fan of Bocelli’s work, having previously booked him to play a private party at Mar-a-Lago in 2010.

Bocelli’s White House performance is set for December 5th, two days ahead of the revamped 2025 Kennedy Center Honors. Trump will host that event, recognizing honorees including George Strait, KISS, Sylvester Stallone, and Gloria Gaynor.

Prime Video has officially released Red, White & Royal Wedding, the long-awaited sequel to its worldwide LGBTQ+ rom-com success Red, White & Royal Blue. After the original received a tidal wave of fan affection, the follow-up will further explore the touching romance of Prince Henry of Britain and Alex Claremont-Diaz, the United States’ First Son.

Actors Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine will reprise their fan-favourite roles as Alex and Henry, while director Jamie Babbit — known for But I’m a Cheerleader — steps in to helm the project. Matthew López, who directed the original film, returns as co-writer and producer, alongside bestselling author Casey McQuiston and screenwriter Gemma Burgess.

The original movie was a cultural hit, admired for its humor, emotional resonance, and affirming queer portrayals. Viral moments, fan illustrations, and TikTok edits propelled Red, White & Royal Blue into one of the most-viewed Amazon Prime romantic comedies, particularly in India.

Red, White & Royal Wedding follows the next chapter of Alex and Henry’s journey to forever as they dive into royal customs, self-discovery, and the scrutiny of life in the public eye.

Director Jamie Babbit stated, “After But I’m a Cheerleader, I’m delighted to return to queer love stories. We all need this type of optimism and gay joy.” López further stated, “It’s been a pleasure to co-write the next chapter. Jamie brings the perfect mix of wit and heart.

Author Casey McQuiston revealed, “Jamie has the sensitivity to care about Alex and Henry’s tale. I am waiting for the fans to see what’s next.”

As a celebration of love without borders set to be, the sequel reiterates that romance, even between politics and royalty, is always worth fighting for.

7 Best Sheer White Nail Polish Shades, Loved By Manicurists

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

When it comes to nail polish, sheer nail colours are my thing. Nail trends may come and go, but a sheer white nail polish has become my default manicure. The reason being? It looks timeless, chic and brightens your hands without being stark as opaque white nail polish. Like sheer pink nails, it transcends trends, and when I clock someone with a milky manicure, I instantly know they’re chic. IMO, there’s no classic nail colour you can wear.

Given my obsession with them, I’ve spent a lot of time researching and testing some of the best sheer white nail polishes. From OPI Funny Bunny to Essie Allure, there are so many types of sheer white nail colours. Some offer just a tint, while others have more of an off-white hue that is subtle and natural-looking (think of them like a skin tint for nails).

I’ve rounded up some of the very best sheer white nail polishes below, alongside pictures of the exact colours from my Saved folder so you can see the shade for yourself.

1. OPI Funny Bunny

We can’t talk about sheer white nail polishes without talking about OPI Funny Bunny. Available as both a gel polish in salon and in nail polish form to use at home, it’s one of the best sheer whites around. You can layer it up in thin coats for more opacity, and many like to layer it with OPI Bubble Bath as a classic OPI nail layering combination.

2. Essie Allure

Essie’s Allure Nail Polish is one of my regular go-tos when I’m craving a sheer white manicure. It’s very sheer, and more of a bone colour that is much softer compared to the brightness of Funny Bunny. Below, I’m wearing two thin coats paired with Essie Gel Couture Top Coat (which genuinely makes my nail polish last for over a week), and it gives me natural-looking nails that look neat and manicured.

3. Manucurist Active Bright

Looking at Mateja Novakovic’s understated manicure with the Manucurist Active Bright (I’m also a big fan of Active Smooth) hue has 100% convinced me to buy it. It’s a sheer white with subtle flecks of shimmer that give the nails a luminous glow. You can layer it up for more coverage, but it’s a speedy way to make your nails look neat if you only wear one coat. It’s also a nail strengthener, too, so it helps your nails grow long and strong as you wear it.

Nail Polish in Marshmallow

Marshmallow is one of my favourite Essie nail polish shades. Compared to the natural sheerness of Allure, this one has a milkier look and leans slightly pink to make your nails look bright while still letting your natural nail bed peek through.

5. Bio Sculpture Sea Foam

A manicure by @paintedbyjools wearing Bio Sculpture Sea Foam

I audibly gasped when I saw this stunning manicure by Julia Diogo, and I just had to find out the shade. It turns out it’s Bio Sculpture’s Seafoam, a cloudy, milky white that I’m desperate to try next. What’s great is that Bio Sculpture offers it in gel form through salons, but you can also pick up the nail polish version in the exact shade if you’re painting your nails at home.

6. Westmoreland Cosmetics Vanilla Gloss 1

Ever since I heard that manicurist Harriet Westmoreland was launching her own range, Westmoreland Cosmetics, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. She’s perfected the milky manicure, and her Vanilla Gloss collection features this stunning shade (No.1), which may be one of the best sheer white nail colours I’ve ever seen. It comes in both Glass Gel and Glass Polish form, too.

7. Bio Sculpture French Blanc

A manicure by @raelondonnails with Bio Sculpture French Blanc

Another Bio Sculpture nail colour I’ve fallen for is French Blanc—and isn’t it the dreamiest milkshade shade you’ve ever seen? This natural off-white shade is like a tulle manicure, cloaking the nails in a sheer veil while making the nail plate look healthy and glossy. I’m obsessed.
