Was there an expectation for you to attend higher education? Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it?
Yes. It was always expected that my siblings and I would either go to college or trade school. I attended an in-state university and my parents paid for all my expenses. My husband M. went to the same college, and he paid for his education through scholarships, jobs, and with a little help from his parents.

Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parent(s) educate you about finances?
My parents had a lot of conversations with my siblings and me about saving money, living frugally, investing, and planning for retirement. My parents really emphasized good money management habits. As soon as I got my first job, I started contributing to my Roth IRA.

What was your first job and why did you get it?
My first job (besides babysitting local families with my sisters) was as a stocker at a supermarket. I got the job to save money; I was 17 and wanted to have some personal savings before going to college. My parents also encouraged me to get the job so I could contribute to a Roth IRA and so that I could gain work experience.

Did you worry about money growing up?
No, I always felt very financially secure.

Do you worry about money now?
No, I think we are in a good place with our finances and I know we live frugally.

At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net?
M. and I got married a few months after graduating from college, and so I never lived in an apartment alone or had to support myself on my own income. I guess I would say I became financially responsible once I graduated from college, but I lived with my parents until I got married.

Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? If yes, please explain.
My parents paid for my college in full and helped me buy my car. M.’s parents helped him with some college expenses and also helped him buy his truck. My grandparents contributed heavily to my Roth IRA (I don’t know the exact amount) once I had earned income as a teenager, and they also gifted me the majority of what is in our stock account over the years. M.’s grandparents have a trust set up for each of their grandchildren, so my husband will receive $200,000 from that at some point, but not until his own parents pass away. So hopefully we are far into retirement before we have access to it.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Wins Emmy For Scripted Variety

John Oliver once again beat Saturday Night Live.

HBO’s Last Week Tonight beat Lorne Michaels’ NBC show for the third straight year in the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series category.

It comes after the show, which launched on HBO in 2014, previously won seven consecutive times in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category.

John Oliver thanked HBO and his team as well as his family in an incredibly short speech, helping Nate Bargatze’s charity jar, designed to keep the speeches tight and donate money to the Boys and Girls Club of America. After Oliver’s speech, the counter went back to $99,000.

“F*ck you, Nate Bargatze, that is a lot of money for you and you can add a f*ck to the swear jar as well,” he said before racing off the stage.

In 2023, the TV Academy shook up the categories last year, launching Outstanding Scripted Variety Series, alongside Outstanding Talk Series and moved Oliver into the former, going head-to-head with SNL, which had won the award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series six years in a row starting in 2017.

It has been nominated for 73 Emmys and won 30. At the Creative Arts Emmys, though, it failed to win in directing, which went to The Late Show, and picture editing.

Oliver, who is contracted through to the end of the 2026 season, exec produces the series alongside Tim Carvell and Liz Stanton. It is produced by HBO in association with Peyance Productions and Avalon Television.

Your Horoscope This Week: September 14 to 20

Cosmic beings, eclipse season doesn’t mess around… and neither should you. The  recent Pisces total lunar eclipse was part one of this cosmic double feature, and now we’re moving toward the sequel: a partial solar eclipse in Virgo on Sunday the 21st.  Eclipses always come in pairs, and this week is like that quiet but restless pause between acts. You might notice your body craving simplicity, your mind craving clarity,  and your heart craving a reset. That’s because we’re in the “dark of the Moon” phase  — the few days before a new moon when the Universe basically hands you a cosmic Swiffer and says, declutter your life, babe.

Midweek, on the 18th, Mercury shifts into Libra, giving us a breather. Conversations flow more smoothly, debates feel more balanced, and suddenly you might actually want to  hear someone else’s opinion (keyword: might). But just as you’re getting comfy, the  very next day, Venus leaves fiery Leo and enters pragmatic Virgo. If Mercury is passing  you a chilled mocktail and saying “relax,” Venus in Virgo is like, “btw, did you  remember to alphabetize your spice rack?” It’s that classic one-step-forward, one step-back energy, reminding us that eclipse season is not about control, it’s about  surrender, with a side of editing.

But the Grammy winner—who also shares son Wave, 3, and daughter Blossom,12 months, with estranged husband Offset—couldn’t really blame her little girl.

“I couldn’t even be mad at her because I wanted to see if she was gonna tell me the truth,” the 32-year-old told The Rundown’s Erin Lim Rhodes at Revolve Festival a few weeks later. “I was like, ‘Kulture, did you doodle on mommy’s purse?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah! Did you like it?’”

And while she didn’t dwell on the matter for long, Cardi later admitted that she doesn’t necessarily plan on passing down her collection of designer bags to her kids.

“Sometimes I be like, ‘Yeah, I want to pass this down to my daughters,’” she noted, “but I might just wear it when I’m an old b–ch.”

Spinal Tap’s “Cups and Cakes” with Paul McCartney Is Our Song of the Week

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, our Songs of the Week column highlights the best new tracks from the last seven days. This week, we’re celebrating the newly-released Spinal Tap II and its Paul McCartney-featuring rework of “Cups and Cakes.”

Much like their new movie Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the new album from the greatest fictional rock band of all time draws a lot on the past as well as the future. There are multiple original tracks on The End Continues, but also featured are a few covers of Spinal Tap classics, including Elton John on “(Listen to the) Flower People” and the previously released “Stonehenge,” as well as Paul McCartney leading a new version of “Cups and Cakes” that brings with it a delightful meta element.

“Cups and Cakes” was originally released on the 1984 mockumentary’s soundtrack (though never heard in the film), and in a 2009 interview with The AV Club, Spinal Tap star Michael McKean admitted to being “a little sentimental” about it, referring to the song as “kind of like their string-laden ‘Eleanor Rigby’ sound.” So what could be better than having a gosh-darn Beatle guest on it?

Related Video

The album version is, naturally, much more produced than the rendition heard in the movie, which features McCartney sitting in on a jam session with the band as they squabble over chords. In both cases, though, it’s genuinely delightful to witness one of rock’s great legends engaging with Spinal Tap as if they are the rock legends that… Well, maybe technically, they are. They did just release a new album, after all, their fourth studio album to date, and are still playing together after literal decades. Not so many bands can say the same.

Perhaps part of that longevity is thanks to the band not being too precious about sticking to any specific genre or format: In that AV Club interview, McKean did note that “Cups and Cakes” is “certainly not textbook Spinal Tap,” but it does represent the lads playing around while maybe lightly parodying The Kinks, with all the goofy instrumental flourishes you could ever ask for. It speaks to a massive part of the sequel film’s charm — the way it showcases how McKean, Harry Shearer, and Christopher Guest are still finding the joy in making music together, after these years. (Also, after listening to it more than a few times… I’m now craving a traditional British teatime.)

dust — “Alastair”

Australian rock quintet dust have a gem with “Alastair,” their new song and the latest from their upcoming debut album Sky Is Falling (out 10/10). It starts off in dreamland with crystalline guitars, a winding bass line, and a beach pop feel. They reach their stride in the chorus, oscillating between a more driven approach and a resigned haze. Then, the band collapses into a fraught, fuzzy groove for the outro, the drums escalating in energy while co-vocalist Justin Teale squeezes in one last verse. Even in their sweetest modes, dust have no problem complicating their sound to keep us on our toes. Looking for another great rock band with a saxophonist? They’re right here. — Paolo Ragusa

Rachel Bobbitt — “Hush”

Rachel Bobbitt has shared “Hush,” the latest offering from her upcoming debut album Swimming Towards the Sand (out 10/17). Keeping with the album’s oceanic theme, “Hush” is a buoyant, tender dream pop cut, the wading of waters symbolized by the ebb and flow of Bobbitt’s melodies. Most stark is the chorus, where Bobbitt is surrounded by thick harmonies, too sour for serenity but full enough to elicit powerful emotions. When she enters a full-voiced belt, like when she sings “Eye to eye,” she sounds like no one else. — P. Ragusa

Rapsody, Madlib — “Avon Thru the Wire”

Rapsody has always been in a league of her own. On “Avon Thru the Wire,” a textured, soulful track of pensiveness inspired by the character Avon Barksdale from the revered HBO series The Wire, Rapsody manipulates her voice to tell an evocative story of multiple characters. Opening with a pitched-down vocal, Rapsody takes on the role of a hustler contemplating the consequences of getting caught up in the street life, and expressing appreciation for a longtime friend who reserved judgment. The North Carolina rapper blends the deepened voice with her own natural tone, weaving a narrative of personal reflection and emphasizing the importance of support among people of different trajectories. “It’s for you to believe, it’s for you to achieve/ It’s still time for you/ For your life, I never grieved,” Rapsody spits near the end. Not unlike The Wire itself, Rapsody uses this song to stress the importance of seeing flawed individuals as humans in need of compassion and grace. — Kiana Fitzgerald

Ragana, Drowse — “In Eternal Woods Pts. 2-3”

Labelmates and fellow gloomy music makers Ragana and Drowse have officially joined forces for a full-length project. Their collaborative album, Ash Souvenir, drops November 14th on The Flenser, and judging by the lead single, avant-metal heads are in for a treat. Enticingly titled “In Eternal Woods Pts. 2-3,” the track is crushing, heavy, and incredibly emotive. There are hints of black metal in the tremolo guitars and the guttural screams of the lead vocals, while the back half offers brief glimpses of Drowse’s more atmospheric, slow-core tendencies. All the while, lyrics dealing with loss, love, and sacred places match the instrumental’s epic scope. — Jonah Krueger

Rochelle Jordan — “Sweet Sensation”

Rochelle Jordan is mounting her comeback. The British-Canadian singer-songwriter has been teasing her upcoming album, Through the Wall, since this spring. Her latest offering, “Sweet Sensation,” is yet another instance of Jordan firing a flare gun into the night sky, signaling her highly anticipated return. She hasn’t released an original album since 2021’s Play With the Changes, and prior to that, her breakthrough album 1021 was released in 2014.

Jordan may be sparing in her musical output, but every time she chooses to let us into her creative world, we learn more about what drives her. “Sweet Sensation” feels like an homage to Evelyn “Champagne” King, Cherrelle, and other R&B divas of the ’80s. With West Coast legend DāM-FunK and Jordan’s longtime creative director and executive producer KLSH behind the boards, the song is carried by a rugged bass line, twinkling production, and Jordan’s airy, sensual vocals. Settling squarely in the space of disco-inflected pop&B, “Sweet Sensation” sounds like a summer vibe, despite its near-fall release date. Not to worry: Just play this on repeat for the next 9 months. — K. Fitzgerald

TiaCorine — “Backyard” featuring JID

When TiaCorine released her viral single “FreakyT” in 2022, she put us all on alert and let us know what to expect. On that song, we learned the North Carolina rapper is a grown-ass woman who’s not afraid to talk about her wants and desires. TiaCorine keeps that exact same energy on the JID-assisted “Backyard,” the latest single dropped ahead of her forthcoming album CORINIAN. Over propulsive production that features thrumming bass and a looped soulful interjection, TiaCorine pops her shit about her preferences and capabilities in the bedroom. JID understands the assignment, contributing lyrics like “I stand up in this bih, I’m like the governor in Atlanta/ Put a planet on my wrist, she made a puddle in the passenger.” While the song largely caters to carnal impulses, both artists still find the time to establish themselves as sought-after MCs who can spit amongst the best in their field.  — K. Fitzgerald

Was there an expectation for you to attend higher education? Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it?
Both my parents attended college, chose STEM majors, and graduated top of their class. It was expected that I would do the same. I majored in computer science at a well-respected university in the field. I also received a merit scholarship that covered my entire tuition for all of my years in college. I only had to cover rent and food. For my first year, my parents gave me money to cover these living expenses. During my second year, I worked a part-time job as a software engineer intern and used that income to cover living expenses. I kept this part-time through the remainder of college.

Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parent(s) educate you about finances?
Growing up, my parents spoke about spending habits and the importance of saving. We lived extremely frugal lives and tried to save as much money as we could. For example, nearly all my clothes were bought second-hand, and we tuned our diet for the week based on what was on sale at the grocery store. Still, we were never worried about money. My parents made it clear that our frugal lifestyle was not because we lacked money, but rather we wanted to save for rainy days and future purchases, such as my college and their retirement. After I got my first job, my parents taught me about various investment options, such as CDs, treasury bonds, mutual funds, and day trading. Under their supervision, I placed some day trades to gain familiarity with trading and acclimate myself to the associated risk. If I lost money on some trades, they helped me understand my mistakes and gave pointers on how I could offset the loss. For instance, one of their mantras is that if a stock we buy goes into a loss, unless the company is in dire circumstances (e.g., a lawsuit), it’s usually better to hold. “A high tide in the market will lift all stocks, just wait for it and then settle the trade,” they say.

What was your first job and why did you get it?
My first job was a part-time software engineering internship I took at college. I took the job primarily so I could show something on my resume when applying for summer internships.

Did you worry about money growing up?
No, I knew my parents had a good grasp on our finances. While our lifestyle was modest, they ensured I had everything I needed. They also reassured me that we had enough for rainy days. I remember there were a couple of months where my dad was out of work, yet they never showed any signs of stress or shared any concerns about money. “This is part of life”, they said, “we have saved enough for such rainy days, so don’t worry. And remember, this time will pass, and it’ll be back to normal.”

Do you worry about money now?
Kind of. I have a solid job, decent savings, and with my frugal/minimalist lifestyle, I am not worried about money in the short term. Long-term is another story. With the rise of AI, it’s uncertain if software engineering is a good, sustainable career. If AI replaces my job or reduces my earning potential, I would definitely be in trouble, and that’s my greatest worry. Consequently, I am constantly worried about saving for the future.

At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net?
I am still not financially independent. I live with my parents, and while I do pay the bills, I know they will happily cover for me if needed. Thus, I don’t feel the same level of responsibility as someone living by themselves. I do have a financial safety net; I have enough savings to cover my living expenses for a few months. Plus, I know my parents will help me out if needed.

Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? If yes, please explain.
My parents gave me $10,000 when I started college. I used some of that to cover my living expenses the first year of college and put the rest in a savings account.

bitchy | Princess Kate wore an ‘MM’ apron for one of her photo-ops this week

Here are more photos of the Princess of Wales out and about on Thursday. She did TWO events, y’all! First, she visited the Sudbury Silk Mills, then she visited Marina Mill. At Marina Mill, they let Kate do some silk-screening skits for a good photo-op and she really enjoyed it. Somewhat hilariously, she was given a Marina Mill apron for her skit, only the aprons are emblazoned with the mill’s initials: MM. She’s actually “MS” for Meghan Sussex now, Kate!!

As I said yesterday, I actually liked Kate’s Bella Freud suit. It was a good cut for her figure, it looked unfussy, clean and modern. I ended up liking the look so much more without the jacket though – Kate removed her blazer and revealed her slim-cut black sweater, and she should absolutely wear outfits like this more often – a good pair of trousers with a fitted sweater. It’s such a nice business-casual look.

If you’re wondering if Kate’s fans or supporters are still infantilizing her to a crazy degree, look no further than the reaction to Kate pulling back her hair at Marina Mill. She didn’t want her weave hanging down for her photo-op, so she quickly pulled her hair back in a loose chignon. Like millions of women do multiple times every day. The “trick” of it was that Kate apparently didn’t use a clip or a hair tie. She literally just used her too-long extensions to “tie” her hair back. They’re acting like she turned water into wine.

The Princess of Wales tries her hand at silk screen printing – she popped on an apron, tied her hair ip (without a band – how?! ) and then got stuck in! It shows just how much work goes into the handmade fabrics here at Marina Mill in Kent. pic.twitter.com/oJFAqjRWYF

Our desi girl, aka Priyanka Chopra, and her husband Nick Jonas turned heads and set major couple goals with their charming appearance at New York Fashion Week 2025. The power duo recently attended the Ralph Lauren show, where they instantly became the center of attention. Dressed in perfectly coordinated brown ensembles, Priyanka and Nick looked effortlessly stylish as they posed for the cameras and mingled with the fashion elite.

Even while attending one of the world’s biggest fashion events, Priyanka proudly carried her Indian roots. A video from the evening shows her greeting photographers and fans with a warm “Namaste” as she walked hand in hand with Nick. This simple yet graceful gesture won hearts across social media, with fans praising her for staying connected to her culture even on such a global stage. The clip of her sweet greeting has since gone viral, with viewers calling it both classy and adorable.

Priyanka and Nick’s fairytale romance is no secret to their followers. The couple first crossed paths at the Met Gala in 2017, where they walked the red carpet together as guests of designer Ralph Lauren. At the time, Priyanka believed Nick had placed her firmly in the friend zone, especially since she arrived nearly an hour late to meet him. However, fate had other plans. Shortly after the event, Nick slid into her DMs, and their friendship soon blossomed into a full-fledged love story.

By July 2018, the pair were inseparable and took a romantic trip to Greece, where Nick proposed. Their whirlwind romance led to a spectacular wedding just a few months later in December 2018, held in India with both Hindu and Christian ceremonies that beautifully blended their cultures. Today, Priyanka and Nick are proud parents to their adorable daughter Malti Marie, who was born via surrogacy in 2022.

Priyanka Chopra proves brown is back and beautiful at New York Fashion Week

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

When Priyanka Chopra Jonas stepped into the Ralph Lauren show at the New York Fashion Week, she proved that brown is anything but basic. She walked in wearing an oversized blazer in warm, rich brown tones with strong structured shoulders and a deep plunging neckline, tailored yet daring. The blazer was belted at the waist to cinch the silhouette, giving a striking contrast between boldness and refinement. She paired it with a floor-grazing maxi skirt featuring tiered panels that created beautiful movement with each step. The monochrome brown outfit ranged from chocolate to chestnut hues, and she kept her accessories minimal: simple hoop earrings, gold rings, loose natural waves, and a bronze-toned makeup palette.

Priyanka Chopra shows why brown is the best shade to stand out at New York Fashion Week((Instagram/ jerryxmimi))

Her look was about texture, silhouette, and confidence. In one outfit, she showed us how brown can turn heads, set trends, and become the statement piece of any wardrobe. Here’s why brown is now your must-wear shade, and how you can style it like Priyanka did.

1. Rich earth tones = Instant elegance

Brown in shades like chestnut, cocoa, and caramel brings warmth and luxury without shouting for attention. Priyanka’s ensemble did this masterfully, structured yet soft, polished yet approachable.

How to channel it: Try tonal dressing: Pair a brown blazer with a matching skirt or wide-leg pants. Pick rich fabrics like wool blends or silk-satin for added depth.

2. Monochrome magic with layers and panels

Her tiered maxi skirt with matching blazer created flow, texture, and depth while sticking to one colour palette. It’s a masterclass in how layering and paneling can elevate monochrome dressing.

How to channel it: Look for outfits with tiered hems, pleats, or panels. Or layer a long skirt under a blazer in the same shade to mimic methodical layering.

3. Belt it to define waist and shape

The belted blazer introduced shape, defining Priyanka’s waist amidst the oversized structure. It balanced the strong shoulders and roomy silhouette with femininity.

How to channel it: Even when wearing boxy tops or oversized items, use belts, wide leather belts or chain belts to add structure. Especially if you’re doing a monochrome look.

4. Keep accessories minimal

She paired her power look with minimal gold hoops, rings, and loose hair—letting the outfit be the star. The bronze makeup said “glow,” not “glare.”

How to channel it: If your outfit is statement enough (texture + colour), go simple with accessories: one or two pieces (earrings or a ring), nude shoes, natural hairstyle.

5. Brown loves bronze makeup and shine

Her bronze makeup look complemented the brown tones, bringing warmth to her face and harmonising the whole look. When your clothes are rich and deep, your makeup can echo them subtly.

How to channel it: Use bronze or earthy eyeshadows, warm highlighter, brown or nude lips. Skip heavy contouring, let warmth lead.

6. Movement matters: Flow over structure

The tiered maxi skirt wasn’t just for show, it moved. When Priyanka walked, the skirt panels created a flow that made the outfit feel alive.

How to channel it: Choose skirts or dresses with panels, ruffles, or pleats. Even trousers with a wide leg or flowy fabric can give your outfit movement and drama.

7. Match your co-wearers

She and Nick Jonas wore matching tones, which elevated the power couple moment. Coordinating shades with your partner or group adds polish.

How to channel it: If you’re attending an event with someone (friend, partner), coordinate tones, not necessarily identical but complimentary: mocha + tan, chocolate + beige, etc.

Priyanka Chopra’s NYFW look brought brown back and made it unforgettable. With structure, texture, layers, and the right accessories, brown becomes a statement. Next time when you want to stand out without screaming for attention, wear brown. Watch the room quiet down in the best way possible.
