Nas-Backed Casino Approved After Times Square Denies Jay-Z’s Proposal

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

A Nas-backed casino bid in Queens just got the green light to move ahead days after JAY-Z’s Times Square casino dreams were deferred.

On Thursday (Sept. 25), Aqueduct’s Resorts World received preliminary approval from a state siting board to move forward in the race for one of up to three casino licenses in New York. The move felt like a full-circle moment for Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, who couldn’t resist throwing a little shade in Hov’s direction while hyping Nas’ ties to the project.

“There’s a theme in Queens and I know Nas is a part of it. Queens gets the money!” Richards said. Then, with a grin, he doubled down: “Sorry JAY-Z. We win again. I just had to rub it in.”

Nas, who has equity in Genting Resorts World’s $5 billion proposal, has been hands-on about the vision. The plan includes live table games like blackjack, craps, and poker, plus a concert hall and even a sports academy with Queens hoops legend Kenny “The Jet” Smith attached. On Thursday, Richards and five other members of the state’s community advisory committee unanimously voted in Resorts World’s favor.

The “One Mic” MC spoke of his new venture into the gambling world prior, and called it a win for his community. “This is an ambitious project that will give new opportunities to the hard-working families who call Queens home, attract top-tier talent, and build up the next generation of leaders. Clearly, with this project, the world is ours,” he said.

Meanwhile, JAY-Z’s Caesars Palace Times Square bid, with partners SL Green Realty and Caesars, didn’t survive the advisory stage. Every Manhattan casino proposal was struck down amid opposition from the Broadway League and neighborhood residents who made it clear that a new gambling hub in Times Square was likely not happening.

Next up, the statewide Gaming Facility Location Board will review the approved bids before the Gaming Commission makes its final decision. Up to three licenses will be awarded by the end of the year. Other contenders still in the mix include Bally’s in The Bronx, The Coney in Coney Island, and the Mets-Hard Rock partnership eyeing space near Citi Field.

But for now, Queens has bragging rights.

Regina Hall nearly became a nun ‘several times’

by jummy84 September 23, 2025

23 September 2025

Regina Hall has considered becoming a nun “several times” in her life.

Regina Hall has confessed that she nearly became a nun

The 54-year-old actress attended a Catholic school and she seriously thought about becoming a nun before she became a Hollywood star.

During an appearance on the Good Hang podcast, Regina shared: “I went to Catholic school, and so we had the nuns, who I loved. I loved my nuns.”

The movie star always found nuns to be “loving” and she considered following in their footsteps.

Regina explained: “I did [consider becoming a nun]. I did several times when I was in high school. And then again, when I was older, and I was too old.”

The actress considered becoming a nun at 41, two years after the cutoff point.

She explained: “With some orders it’s a sleeping partner number thing — four … Some [orders, it] could be a certain amount of partners, some might be how many attachments that you have [had]. Some you know, in the world — it’s hard — and some is age.”

Regina previously considered pursuing a career in journalism, describing the industry as “interesting”.

The actress told the Today show in 2022: “I was in school and I read a book, it’s called ‘Democracy in America.’ Now, that book really resonated with me that if you do not have the press, if you do not have journalism – a free press – Hothen you cannot maintain democracy.”

However, Regina’s plans changed suddenly after her dad passed away and she needed to find a way of making money quickly.

The movie star said: “I had a friend who was like, ‘If you need to earn some extra money, you could do commercials.’ And that’s how I was introduced to it.

“But my father’s death, I was young. I was 23, so it was sobering and painful, but it sort of redirected my journey.”

Regina enjoyed her career breakthrough in The Best Man, the 1999 comedy drama film. However, she almost missed out on the role.

She said: “I had a move because one of the girls in my acting class used to be an exotic dancer and I said I need to learn a dance and she said, ‘You don’t have to know anything. You have to do this one move and that’s it’. And I did that and they stopped the music. The producers said, ‘Can you do anything else?’ and I said, ‘yes’ and then I just got my clothes and said, ‘thank you’ and I left … because I was like, well, I’m not gonna get it.”

Jay-Z's Times Square Casino Proposal Rejected By Advisory Committee

Jay-Z’s Times Square Casino Proposal Rejected By Advisory Committee

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Jay-Z, SL Green, and Caesars Entertainment’s bid to transform Times Square into the next major casino playground has been struck down. On Wednesday (Sept. 17), the state’s six-member community advisory committee denied the proposal with a 4-2 vote, per numerous sources.

Those four “nay” votes came from reps for Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, state Sen. Liz Krueger, Assemblyman Tony Simone, and Councilman Erik Bottcher, while the governor and mayor’s appointees stood in support with a “yay.”

Following the decision, SL Green CEO Marc Holliday reportedly blasted the naysayers, saying, “Go run and hide. You have to live with that history forever.”

The Broadway League and the No Times Square Casino Coalition have argued that plopping a gaming hub in the middle of Manhattan’s theater district would destroy the magic that draws millions to Broadway every year. Richard Gottfried, former Manhattan assemblyman, stated, “Most residents of the area we heard from are opposed. The Broadway theater industry is adamantly opposed, and they make a strong case that a casino in this area would do major damage to that gem. There’s lots of other places in the city where a casino could thrive.”

Rev. Al Sharpton, who supported the plan, called the decision a missed opportunity. “I was here for Jay-Z,” Sharpton told The Post. “We haven’t seen Black ownership in the entertainment industry in Times Square. I was disappointed that they didn’t break the color line.”

Meanwhile, Jason Laks, president of the Broadway League, celebrated the “safeguarding” of the culture and community. “A vote to protect the magic of Broadway for the one hundred thousand New Yorkers who depend on it for their livelihoods, and for the tens of millions who come from around the world to experience it,” he said. “A casino can go anywhere, but Broadway only lives here.”

While Manhattan has denied a new casino, Queens still has a chance to secure one of those licenses.

Hip-Hop icon Nas has teamed up with Resorts World New York City on a $5 billion expansion plan for Aqueduct Park. If approved, their casino would become one of the largest in the world, featuring a 350,000-square-foot floor, 3,000 units of workforce housing, and 50 acres of new park space.

Nas spoke of his new venture and called it a win for his community. “This is an ambitious project that will give new opportunities to the hard-working families who call Queens home, attract top-tier talent, and build up the next generation of leaders. Clearly, with this project, the world is ours,” he said.

Unlike Times Square, Queens’ community is backing the proposal. Community Board 10 chair Betty Braton praised Resorts World’s track record. “They have been with us in good times and tough times ever since, giving both financial support and their time to this community,” she stated. “I know this partnership will only continue.”

With only three licenses on the table, the stakes are higher than ever.

bitchy | Times: Queen Camilla is also displeased with Charles & Harry’s meeting

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Something which has been glossed over in the past week’s royal coverage is that Queen Camilla was not around for any of the royal maneuvers. Camilla has been hiding out in Balmoral (or Birkhall, more specifically) for the past month. She’s barely been seen after she went on a luxury vacation on a yacht with her family. Camilla did not join her husband in London last week for his day-trip, and she was not around when King Charles met Prince Harry at Clarence House. I think Charles set it up that way on purpose. Despite Camilla’s cozy relationship with the tabloids and the tabloids’ insistence that Charles would do anything to “protect” Camilla from Harry, Charles doesn’t consult with Camilla about every single thing and they spend a great deal of time apart. Which brings me to Roya Nikkhah’s exclusive in the Sunday Times. The piece is called: “Why Prince William can’t forgive Harry.” Roya was told the same thing that every other royal reporter was told, that William is absolutely furious about Harry (but too lazy to do much about anything). Check out the curious mention of Camilla in this piece though.

What will William make of his brother’s return? A royal source said William “has been very jolly all week” but publicly he has made no comment, preferring to focus on his own engagements. He will have kept a close eye on Harry’s coverage and the public’s reaction, though. While his younger brother bounced through balloon fights with children at the WellChild awards and splashy announcements of a £1.1m donation to Children in Need and more than £360,000 for the injured children of Gaza and Ukraine, William dutifully trudged from Berkshire to Lambeth to Cardiff for engagements which also championed young people and mental health awareness.

As much as Harry insists he remains committed to “a life of public service”, the reality is he walked away from the daily grind five years ago, with profound consequences for William and his family. Those wounds run deep.

For all Harry’s assaults on the royal family during Queen Elizabeth’s final years, the missiles fired in his memoir, Spare, the bombshells of the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary and all the interviews in between, friends say it is the fact there is no longer a wingman, a brother to share the present and future heavy load, that has always stung William most. He may never forgive him for the impact that has on Catherine, who is in remission from cancer, and Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, seven, whose future responsibilities may have differed slightly if the Sussexes had stuck around.

As a close friend told me after Harry and Meghan left these shores, William “definitely feels the pressure now it’s all on him. His future looks different because of his brother’s choices. It’s not easy.”

Now the King has taken the first tentative step on the path towards reconciliation, the spotlight will turn to William, along with questions of whether he will, or should, do the same. There will be public commentary, expectation and hope that if a father considers forgiveness, why not a brother? But as another of William’s closest friends once told me, when it comes to relationships with the future king, “it is all about trust and loyalty”. William feels he has lost both with Harry and that may prove too difficult a roadblock to pass.

The King is now back at Balmoral for a few days before returning to London for the Duchess of Kent’s funeral on Tuesday, then hosting the Trumps at Windsor Castle from Wednesday on their state visit.

Charles will have briefed the Queen on his meeting with Harry, who has described her as “dangerous” and “a villain” who “left bodies in the street” in her quest to improve her public image. Camilla could be forgiven for not being jubilant about her husband’s reunion with Harry. As a royal source said: “He has been extremely unkind to her in print and in word and she doesn’t forgive easily.” And as a close friend of the King said: “The royal family make elephants look like they have short memories.” Some members of the family may, in time, forgive Harry for the damage and hurt they feel he has caused, but none of them will forget.

[From The Times]

It’s interesting to consider that Charles might have blown off Camilla and William’s “concerns” by meeting Harry. It’s also striking that this is yet another instance where Camilla and William are on the same side, the side of racism, jealousy, pettiness, hatred and press-briefings. As for the main thrust of this piece, William and his inability to forgive Harry, I actually love how the stories keep changing. There’s never been any consistency with William’s side – he’s been absolutely furious with Harry for years. Years before Netflix, years before the Oprah interview, years before Harry & Meghan dipped. It’s almost like William’s original grievance, the real breaking point between brothers, was the fact that Harry fell in love with Meghan, an accomplished, beautiful, multilingual, kind, gracious American woman. William has not been able to keep his sh-t together for a f–king decade because his brother married a bad bitch. Incidentally, Camilla also couldn’t stand it – it was like Diana all over again.

Jay-Z Defends Times Square Casino Bid As Cultural Investment + Says It’s About ‘Strengthening’ Broadway & Creating ‘Real Value’ Within The Community

Jay-Z is doubling down on his love for New York City by investing in what he calls a “world class destination” in the heart of Times Square. He shared his vision in a new interview with City & State New York.

Through Roc Nation, Jay-Z has partnered with SL Green and Caesars to propose a casino at 1515 Broadway.

“New York City is the entertainment capital of the world,” he said. “Caesars Palace Times Square is an extension of culture.”

He believes the project will support the community and Broadway.

“Casino visitors will buy tickets, fill seats, book dinners before shows, and keep hotels full,” he explained. “This project isn’t about taking away from Broadway – it’s about strengthening it.”

Addressing critics, he emphasized responsible gaming programs and investments in arts and public resources.

“Our goal is to create opportunity and ensure this project delivers real value,” he added.

When asked what he loves most about NYC, he said, “The attitude, the culture, the energy. You can’t replicate New York anywhere else.”

Do you think the casino project is a good idea?

bitchy | Times: Is Princess Kate ‘allowed’ to change up her hairstyle significantly?

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

One of the great things about Princess Diana was that she was both a trendsetter and a trend-follower. She loved the “more is more” ethos of 1980s fashion and styling, and then, right on trend, she went for a cleaner, more minimalist look in the 1990s. Diana switched up her hairstyles with frequency, and so many women copied her hair. Well, the inheritor of the Princess of Wales title is also known for her style and her hair, although the comparisons between Kate and Diana have always been strained, if not completely ridiculous. Well, Kate’s big appearance today in London has got people talking about her hair/wig and what it all means. Is Kate “allowed” to change her hair color this dramatically? Is she the first brunette in her 40s to go with a lighter color? The Times of London had this piece:

On a visit to London’s Natural History Museum today, the Princess of Wales was elegantly put together as always but with one big difference. Kate has gone blonde. In truth, she’s been creeping this way for some time. At first it was “bronde”, a gentle lightening of her dark brown hair; by the time of the French presidential visit in July, it was closer to caramel; now it looks to have edged towards honey blonde. Our first glimpse of her new look came last month, when she was seen with fairer-looking hair in the car on the way to church from Balmoral, though it wasn’t clear if it was just a trick of the light. But today’s pictures are confirmation that she has definitely lightened up.

Which may seem like no news at all. It’s usual to see celebrities reveal drastic makeovers: an extreme haircut for a new film role, expensive cosmetic surgery in time for red-carpet season. Kate having a few highlights shouldn’t be a shock. But our expectations of modern royals are anything but modern.

Queen Elizabeth II set the expectations for a royal woman ageing in the public eye: to be always and instantly recognisable to your public. Camilla hasn’t changed her hair in years — it’s just a fraction lighter than it was 25 years ago, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s still using the same round brush to blow-dry those flicky-out ends. Perhaps it’s to ensure consistency on those commemorative plates. Kate was a brunette at her royal wedding, so brunette she must stay.

But she’s also part of a younger generation — mine, actually — though she may seem much more pulled together than most millennials. I was 12 when I first dyed my hair in the bathtub at home; 15 when I had blonde highlights. The temptation to go blonde is strong when pop culture and beauty ideals tell you that you’re missing something; that blondes have more fun, that gentlemen prefer them. I went blonde again in my late twenties, peroxide this time. And since the greys have started peppering my brunette hair, I’ve been discussing with my hairdresser a few honeyish streaks of my own, the better to blend in greys.

That warm, flattering, face-brightening honey shade is a go-to, almost a default, for white women in their forties, fifties and sixties, as much a hair milestone as the new-mum bob or the break-up big chop. With Jennifer Aniston as a poster girl, it’s a transition that many of Kate’s close friends will be making around her. Her mother, Carole, has slices of warm blonde in her bob.

Supporting British fashion houses boosts the economy, but it seems that public opinion deems it undignified for our royals to stray too far into vanity — as if a hair transplant for a receding royal may weaken the empire. Where do we draw the line? Will the Wales children be allowed dodgy teenage hair? Emo side-sweeps, self-cut fringes … not tattoos or piercings, surely? Where do we stand on traintrack braces — and would they be allowed to choose any colour for their elastics, or is there a pre-approved palette?

[From The Times]

Here’s the thing – no reasonable person actually *wanted* Kate to keep the same general hairstyle and color for the rest of her married life. When she brought out the doll-wig extensions in her first year of marriage, it’s like she got addicted to that particular look – the sausage curls, the volume and the length. People who actually like Kate and want her to look her best have been begging her for years to ditch the wiglets and hairpieces and just get a cute shoulder-length bob. I wouldn’t even take issue with the color – and I don’t consider this blonde, it’s caramel or bronde – specifically because this is what so many women do as they deal with grey hair, they go lighter. But they also go shorter too, which Kate seems incapable of. And just to be clear, this was not Kate sitting at a hair salon for hours to achieve this color.

To say that Shah Rukh Khan immortalized Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s Raj as the ultimate symbol of romance is just the bare minimum. In the iconic ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana’ sequence with the superstar’s signature pose, while standing in the Sarson Ka Khet or the train scene in the climax, every die-hard Bollywood romantics gulped every scene and emotion of the movie as passionately as possible. But did you know that Shah Rukh Khan rejected the movie 4 times? Yes, you heard that right.

We almost missed out on the superstar playing the cult character. Reason? Shah Rukh Khan thought he was too ‘old’ to play the role of Raj in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Imagine the King Of Romance wanting to turn down a role like Raj, sounds a bummer, right? But it ended up happening almost 4 times.

Shah Rukh Khan Initially Rejected Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

According to a news report in ScoopWhoop, SRK, in a documentary had said, “I never wanted to do a romantic role. Because by the time I joined films I was 26. Normally, romantic films meant that you started off from a college and then you work your way up into romance and then run away with a girl, or committed suicide with a girl. I thought I was too old to be a romantic hero.”

The actor further said he was keen to take up negative roles like Darr and Baazigar, which he felt gave him more prominence. After repeatedly rejecting Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, director-producer Aditya Chopra offered the role to Saif Ali Khan. But as they say, destiny always finds its way to the things meant for you. Yash Chopra persuaded his son to convince Shah Rukh Khan.

Yash Chopra himself decided to meet Shah Rukh Khan and said, “You must take up romantic roles on the big screens if you want to survive in the industry.” The actor could not refuse the legendary producer and nodded to the movie. And the rest, they say, is history. The movie became one of the most successful films in Indian cinema and the longest-running movie in the country. Most importantly, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge redefined SRK as a milestone actor in romance and charm.

What Next Shah Rukh Khan?

SRK appeared in three back-to-back films in 2023, including Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He also had a cameo role in Tiger 3. The superstar is now gearing up for his next big release, titled King, one of the most-anticipated Bollywood films. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2026.
