Zachary Quinto Talks Wolf and Josh’s Kiss, Carol in Flashforward (Exclusive)

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 2 “The Contestant.”]

It has not been an easy start to the season for Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) on Brilliant Minds. First, his father Noah leaves with just a letter (after Wolf avoided him, despite the other man living in his house). Now, his mother, Muriel (Donna Murphy), has stepped down as CMO of the hospital and will just be his mother. Then there’s the complicated relationship with Josh (Teddy Sears) — the two are trying to just be friends — and the fact that Wolf will be a patient at Hudson Oaks’ psychiatric facility in six months.

First, Quinto is quick to assure us that Murphy isn’t going anywhere, though the show has lost the mother and son working together. “We spent so much of the first season watching Wolf deal with his trauma that originated in his family, his primary family of origin. I think Michael [Grassi, showrunner] wanted to open up some new storytelling landscape for Wolf,” Quinto explains in the video interview above. “And so I think that the vacuum that Muriel’s absence creates at the hospital will be a very interesting thing to chart and to navigate. I also think that it gives space and room for Wolf to become his own doctor in a way that working with his mom always had him maybe up against some degree of expectation that he’s no longer beholden to.”

Pief Weyman/NBC

He also reveals that the line about him looking forward to her being his mom and not his boss was something that they came up with on the day of shooting that scene. “I felt like it was something that Wolf needed to say and that it is nice to consider exploring their relationship from a different angle and not from the angle of Muriel having to be the messenger of the hospital mandates,” he says.

Elsewhere in the episode, Wolf invites Josh out for drinks and kisses him in what Quinto says was “an impulsive, vulnerable moment.” He also says that Josh was right to stop him because it was, in part, an attempt at a distraction from the fact that his father left.

He continues, “I don’t think Wolf is particularly comfortable in his own vulnerability. I think he’s able to show up for other people and their vulnerabilities when he is dealing with his patients. But I think in that moment, he felt like Josh showed up for him, supported him, and he wanted to connect on a level that allowed him to put things behind him that he didn’t want to really look at. And I think rightfully so, Josh interrupts that moment and says, ‘I can’t be a part of your distraction. I can be a part of your support system, but I can’t be a part of your distraction.’ And so I think it’s an attempt for Wolf to avoid looking at the magnitude of the impact that Noah’s return and then immediate disappearance or relatively immediate disappearance has had on his emotional and mental wellbeing.”

Wolf also understands why Josh hit pause on them. “He respects Josh’s boundaries. I think he has to understand that he wasn’t behaving in a way that was particularly respectful or particularly generous toward Josh at the end of the first season, according to Quinto. “I think he realizes that Josh deserves better and maybe in time Wolf will be able to provide that for him, but maybe not.”

In the Season 1 finale, Josh told Wolf he was falling for him. Wolf didn’t respond in kind. Grassi then told us he would in his own unique way. What might that look like?

“I think he finds different ways to communicate the way he’s feeling to Josh throughout the course of the second season,” teases Quinto. “I think part of what he’s learning is how to be present with his feelings and communicate them in real time. I think he’s somebody who’s lived a lot of his life not doing that —compartmentalizing and intellectualizing and processing in different ways. I think one of the catalysts that Josh is for Wolf is to kind of just be more present and be more comfortable in his own vulnerability.”

This episode ends with another flashforward, and in this one, Carol is by Wolf’s side, telling him it’s for the best, as he signs himself into Hudson Oaks, the psychiatric facility run by Amelia (Bellamy Young).

“I think there’s no one that Wolf trusts more than Carol, and probably at this point, including his parents,” Quinto tells us. “And so I think bringing her with him for that moment of surrender is very telling. And I think they have each other’s backs in a way that you can probably rest assured that it is the best place for him to be, at least in that moment if she’s advocating for it.”

Watch the full video interview above with Zachary Quinto about Muriel’s news, Oliver and Josh’s relationship, the flashforwards, Amelia showing up in the present, and much more.

Director Ima Iduozee Talks Series ‘Sneakermania,’ Debuts Trailer

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

“Sneakermania” shows no signs of slowing down.

In the upcoming eight-episode Finnish series, produced by Helsinki-filmi and set to be broadcast on YLE in February 2026, teenage sneakerhead Ola is determined to become a fashion influencer.

With his friend Bee, Ola – who lives for Air Jordan 1 Low OG Chicago – is trying to build a following and grow their TikTok channel. Until his former best friend Jay steals his thunder.

“The story shifts from lighthearted, friendly banter to moments of envy and dishonesty. While the tone often stays comedic, the characters face real challenges: moments that test their morals, motives, and the limits of what they’re willing to sacrifice,” said director Ima Iduozee.

One of the main themes is belonging, he stated.

“The desire to be seen, heard and accepted. Social media plays a central role in ‘Sneakermania,’ offering a space to create your self-image and brand, giving you a sense of autonomy over how others perceive you. For Ola, it becomes a way of gaining motion and respect.”

While there’s “a lot of great stuff coming out of Finland right now,” many stories still wait to be told, stressed Iduozee, also a choreographer for the first Finnish Netflix Original series “Dance Brothers.”

“We have so much more to offer than Nordic noir and detective dramas. I wanted to show a version of Helsinki that felt authentic to me. A generation of young creatives who are bold, self-determined and unafraid to go after what they want.”

Sneaker culture, which has evolved into a global phenomenon, felt like a perfect way in.

The series debuts its trailer here:

“For a massive number of young adults, sneakers are much more than shoes. They are a cultural language representing identity, creativity and community,” said Mia Ylönen, head of drama at Helsinki-filmi.

The company has also showcased anticipated thriller “Icebreaker” – awarded MipDrama’s Coup de Coeur – at the Helsinki industry event Finnish Film Affair. Set on a stranded boat in the middle of icy nowhere, it sees its crew members disappear, one by one.

According to Ylönen, “Sneakermania” taps into fashion, music and social media through its “magnetic lead characters that represent Helsinki in 2025.” “It’s a series about ambition, self-expression, fashion and, above all, a story about friendship.”

Led by first-time headwriter Vilja Keskimäki, the story features tracks from Finnish artists Turisti, Averagekidluke and Bizi.

“We brought fashion stylists, designers, dancers and influencers on board early during the production. It was important for us to collaborate with people who truly live the fashion, culture and music of the sneaker world.”

Ola might be “the beating heart and driving force” of the story, but he’s accompanied by a group of young adults.

“They share his passion for sneakers, DIY culture and creative self-expression, and the thrills of finding their place in the world while navigating friendship and ambition,” said Iduozee.

Ylönen added: “I believe Ima is the next best thing to come out of Finland: a young, creatively unique director whose vibrant vision is something we haven’t seen on Finnish screens before.”

“We were looking for the right project and when ‘Sneakermania’ landed on my table, I knew we had the perfect match.”

written by jummy84

Sunny Leone is set to embark on a pioneering venture, starring in a unique AI film. The film, titled Kaur vs KORE, will feature Sunny Leone in a dual role, playing both a human superhero and her AI-driven avatar, thus merging futuristic narrative with deep human emotions. Apart from its visual appeal, this project represents a significant step into the future of cinema, showing a cultural and technological evolution in the creation and consumption of stories.

The first digital poster of Kaur vs Kore was released in Mumbai today in an event that saw the entire team present. The film is a joint venture between Paparazzi Entertainment and Suncity Endeavours. Ajinkya Jadhav, the founder of Paparazzi Entertainment expressed his excitement and delight to have been part of this project and shared his insights on how judicious use of AI culminated into the making of this film.

Daniel Weber, husband of Sunny Leone, who also owns Suncity Endeavours was also present at the event. He kept his statement brief and mentioned the importance of this project in establishing AI in the cinematic world and expressed his pride in Sunny being a part of it.

The director of this film, Vinil Vasu also chimed in with his opinions. On being asked if introduction of AI is a threat to human creativity, he mentioned how smart use of it can result into many creative realms being explored in the area of filmmaking.

Sunny Leone, who has a dual role in this film, said, “This was a project that was 8 years in the making. We had shot a promo envisioning this entire universe and created this trailer with the use of VFX and green screen. Me and Daniel met with Paparazzi Entertainment and presented this amazing idea to them and it was indeed a successful collaboration.”

Expressing her excitement, Sunny said, “This project is literally our baby and we are excited to see this dream come true. This film is a proof that if you have genuine and heartfelt ideas, it will always bear fruits despite the journey being tough. Kayla Nicole Talks Steamy Stage Moment With Chris Brown

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

You know it’s real when even Kayla Nicole admits she blacked out — in the best way — mid-grind. During a recent episode of her podcast, Kayla opened up about her now-viral on-stage moment with none other than Chris Brown, and let’s just say… she had some things to clear up, and others she couldn’t even remember.

RELATED: Hol’ Up! Chris Brown Gives Kayla Nicole A Steamy Dance During ‘Take You Down’ Performance (VIDEO)

Kayla Clear The Air & Breaks Down That Breezy Moment

While answering fan questions, Kayla shared how the unexpected moment with Breezy came to be — revealing that she was approached just before the show to see if she’d be down, but didn’t find out she was actually the chosen girl until it was happening live. She also took a moment to shut down rumors that Chris doesn’t pick real fans for his steamy on-stage segments, assuring listeners that, in most cities, he’s pulling fans straight from the crowd. As for burning questions like “Did he smell good?” — Kayla laughed it off, admitting she couldn’t recall a thing because she was too busy soaking up the moment with fine Breezy himself.

Kayla Spilled & The TL Is Eating It Up

Kayla Nicole spilled on her viral Chris Brown moment, and the TL is absolutely eating it up. Folks ran to The Shade Room comment section to say Kayla understood the assignment — period. While some questioned why she even gets hate, others were simply focused on how moisturized and flawless she looked in the clip.

One Instagram user @parissymone__ said, “The Kayla hate is so weird. I like her a lot 🥰”

This Instagram user @therealprettypinkpaid added, “She went up there and did what she was supposed to do !😭”

Meanwhile, Instagram user @officialprettygirlshay wrote, “She did good shit she look like she was part of the show 👏👏👏”

Instagram user @hampagnemami.sja said, “‘I saw lights, I heard screams, I turned into Beyoncé’ 😂😂”

While Instagram user @1onlybrittanyleshae_ shared, “She was the perfect choice….. Assignment understood 🍫”

Instagram user @beadidthat commented, “I love how moisturized she is. That’s all I care about right now.“

Finally, Instagram user @quin_cherrybomb added, “And she ate and left no fawkibg crumbs u hear me !🔥”

The Clip That Gagged The TL & Breezy’s Clap Back

Let’s throw it back to the moment Kayla Nicole is talking about — when she and Chris Brown gave Los Angeles a show not too long ago. Sis pulled up to his ‘Breezy Bowl XX’ tour stop looking too good in an all-black fit and curly bob, but by the end of the night, she was center stage with her legs sprawled as Breezy sang ‘Take You Down’ between them. Roommates, you already know social media was gagged, and now Kayla’s finally giving us the behind-the-scenes tea we didn’t know we needed.

Before stepping away from Instagram, Chris Brown had a few things to get off his chest. After posting a still from his steamy on-stage moment with Kayla Nicole in L.A. — legs up, grind in full effect — Breezy hopped on IG Stories to shut down any colorist accusations, writing, “MISS ME WITH THE COLORIST RAGE BAITING.” He also included a stunning aerial shot of his packed-out venue, lit up with fans and flashing lights, simply captioned with a red heart. Roomies, one thing about Chris… he’s gonna speak on it and keep it pushing!

Taylor Swift Talks ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Vinyl & CD Packaging, Art

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Seated in front of a backdrop reminiscent of a floral watercolor painting — perhaps a reference to artist John Everett Millais’ Hamlet-inspired work “Ophelia,” which fans theorize influenced “The Fate of Ophelia” singer’s pose on her new album cover — Taylor Swift talks about the visual art of upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl in a promo clip released by her Taylor Nation team on Saturday (Sept. 20).

“The photo shoot that we did with Mert and Marcus [Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott] was so extraordinary and I was so happy with it that I just wanted the fans to have as many images from this sort of world, this album era, as possible,” Swift says in the brief video. “And so I really spent a lot of time figuring out how I could make the best vinyl product and the best packaging and the best CD experience that they could have.”

As Swift explains in the clip: “The CDs all have photo cards in them. The vinyls, they each have a poem inside of them, a unique poem. They’ve got more images than we ever planned to put in there.”

The Life of a Showgirl has so far been made available for pre-order in its standard format on CD and vinyl, and in various special editions — with different covers and extras, like the aforementioned photo cards — in limited (now sold-out) quantities on Swift’s official webstore. Target also released an exclusive edition CD pre-order.

Swift adds of the album art, “We chose this really high-gloss finish which I’ve never done before, and I think it looks so cool. We wanted this album to feel really luxurious and kind of as a nod to the luxury that a showgirl puts on when she’s on stage. Meanwhile, in the quick-change room she’s like [out of breath, breathing heavily] … Maybe that’s just me, I don’t know.”

“It’s all just something I’m really proud of,” says Swift, who on Friday announced her new project is also headed to select movie theaters with The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, a premiere experience that will debut her music video for album opener “The Fate of Ophelia,” behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot, lyric videos and personal reflections on the collection’s 12 tracks. “It took a lot of time to put together, a lot of concentration, a lot of organization, but hopefully it pays off. I hope the fans are happy.”

Also on the Showgirl promotional calendar: an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, set for broadcast on the BBC on her 12th studio album’s release date, Oct. 3.

Riot Mike Talks Riot Fest at 20

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

In 2005, what began as a modest multi-venue, fan-driven punk event in Chicago has morphed into a large-scale outdoor event that continues to mark its territory as one of the most impressive independent music fests in the country.

Over the years, it’s ballooned in popularity thanks to its anything goes and everything happens here reputation. Where else could you see this year’s lineup of Jack White, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Idles, Mac Sabbath, Hanson, and Rilo Kiley play on the same bill? What other event offers carnival rides, a wedding chapel, arcade, wrestling match, and museum to catch in between acts? Who else would stalk John Stamos for 12 years in a bid to try to get the fictional Jesse & The Rippers to reunite? (Organizers played the long game well as Uncle Jesse has finally agreed to make an appearance this year with the Beach Boys.) Riot Fest has led the charge in actual impressive reunions, too, like goading the Replacements, the Misfits, and Jawbreaker to take the stage together again. And they’ve been instigators for a range of exclusive full album plays—this year alone features Weezer playing the Blue Album, the Pogues delivering Rum Sodomy & The Lash, and Bad Religion doing a front to back of Suffer, among a dozen other bands taking part.

This is all to say it’s unfathomable that it almost never happened. Co-founder Mike Petryshyn (aka Riot Mike to many in the music community) can still remember a time when he never saw the homegrown event getting past a year-one fling.

“After 2005 was done, I didn’t want to do it anymore,” he admits during a recent call from Riot Fest HQ on the west side of Chicago. In the beginning, he was just a fan who worked days at a law firm and had a pipe dream to see all his favorite punk rock bands like Dead Kennedys, the Misfits, and the Germs play the same weekend. By the end of it, though, he was exhausted, stressed to the max and wanted out. “I didn’t know anything. I didn’t know the music business. I just did it by cold calling bands,” he adds. But one MySpace message in the spring of 2006 changed everything.

It was from Eric Spicer, drummer of Naked Raygun, Chicago’s legendary punk rock band whose influential sound—a blend of near-hardcore and melodic hooks with an underbelly of lyrical realism—helped develop a local breeding ground, extending its tentacles in Pegboy, the Effigies and Steve Albini’s Big Black while fostering a future line of descendants like Rise Against, Fall Out Boy, and Alkaline Trio. “They were the most important band to ever come out of this city. … And they changed the trajectory of Chicago music. One case in point is me,” says Petryshyn. When he got the memo from Spicer, Petryshyn recalls, “I didn’t believe it was real. He was like, ‘I saw what you did last year. I thought it was pretty cool. Would you ever consider Naked Raygun for it?’” At the time, the band had been dormant since 1992. But within a few months, Spicer, vocalist Jeff Pezzati, guitarist Bill Stephens and late bassist Pierre Kezdy were rehearsing again and Riot Fest was back on. “Without them, there’d be no Riot, nope. Zero chance,” says Petryshyn. “I would have never done year two.”

Riot Mike is just one of a handful of card-carrying members in the Naked Raygun fan club. Another is Dave Grohl. In his Sonic Highways documentary, Grohl tells of catching a pivotal 1982 show from the punk rockers at Chicago’s Cubby Bear club, which laid the seeds for his own music career. “And Billie Joe,” pipes in Petryshyn. “Every time Green Day plays Chicago, it’s always, ‘This song goes out to Naked Raygun.’”

When it comes to the band’s legacy, which will be told in a forthcoming biography on PM Press in 2027, Petryshyn has his own point of view. “They are one of the smartest bands I’ve ever seen. What I love about Naked Raygun is that you could always tell who wrote the song. I mean, clearly you have Jeff who’s the main songwriter. But Eric’s songs are phenomenal. Pierre’s songs are deep and a lot are not what you think they’re about. But besides that, they have their own sound. Nobody sounds like them … it was very experimental and when you hear [albums] All Rise and Understand? and Jettison, they sound like Chicago.”

He adds, “In many ways, there’s this parallel to Minneapolis, and not that they sound like the Replacements or Hüsker Dü, they really don’t. But that same kind of feeling, like we’re not from L.A. or New York … They are of a working-class kind. They’re from Chicago. It’s tough. Chicago has always been an island. But the influence lived on years later into Nirvana, to Jawbreaker, because the music resonated. … Before anybody knew what Riot Fest was in the early years, if a band or somebody heard about Naked Raygun, it was like, holy shit that’s cool.”

Naturally, the punk vets will help fete Riot Fest’s milestone year this weekend with a just-announced closing night after show at Chicago’s Metro on Sunday. “There was no better way to end it than with the band that really started it all,” says Petryshyn of the full-circle moment, which truly began when he first heard their music after picking up their CD at Home of the Hits in his native Buffalo, New York. “Daryl [Taberski] from Snapcase was working there because the band was in between tours. I went in and was like, ‘I’m tired of everything I’m listening to. Give me something different.’ And he was like, ‘You gotta listen to Naked Raygun.’” Years later, Petryshyn’s first time seeing the band live was their very first Riot Fest rehearsal in 2006, and it’s the only band he’d proudly tell the tale of breaking some ribs for while stage-diving.

“We did a couple of legendary secret shows. I saw [Pegboy’s] Larry Damore show up and stage dive. And he’s big, he’s like a linebacker. … So when he dove and he got caught, I’m like okay, I’m gonna pick my spot,” Petryshyn recalls. “One of my favorite songs is ‘Treason’ and when it gets quiet into that guitar solo … the best guitar solo in punk rock, that’s when I was like I’m going to do this. But yeah, nobody caught me and I slammed right into that hard floor at [Chicago’s] Cobra Lounge. I didn’t know right away that I broke anything. It wasn’t until the next day I went to the hospital and got an X-ray because I was having trouble breathing.” But if you ask Petryshyn if it was all worth it—the broken bones, the 20 years of making Riot Fest the unique unicorn it continues to be, he’s quick to answer: “Oh, absolutely.”

Dasha Talks ‘Cutthroat’ Women, Men Who ‘Can Do No Wrong’ in Country

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

When it comes to men and women in country music, the playing field is far from level. During this week’s episode of Rolling Stone‘s Nashville Now podcast, singer-songwriter Dasha shares her firsthand experience with the uneven balance of power in Nashville, especially when it comes to what artists can and cannot say.

“Especially in the country world, men, for the most part, can do no wrong. The more they’re outspoken and the more they express their opinions and go outside the lines, the more someone’s like, ‘Oh, he’s so cool,’” Dasha says.

But were a woman dare to be outspoken, she’d expect blowback, often from the genre’s very fans.

“Women are so cutthroat. If I saw a woman breaking the rules online a bit, in the country world, wearing some shorts that her cheeks are out, I’d be like, ‘Go queen!’ But they’re like, ‘You stupid bitch,’” Dasha says of online commenters.

After some therapy, Dasha says she’s able to better deal with the comments she receives. In the past, she’s read them and tear up. “Now, when I see those comments, I’m like, ‘Thanks, Karen from Minnesota, you’re feeding my algorithm. Appreciate you, girl.’”

Malaika Arora Talks About Being Judged for Her Career, Clothes and Relationships

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Malaika Arora has often been on the receiving end of judgment, and recently, the actress opened up about it in a heartfelt interview. The actress was previously married to Arbaaz Khan and was dating Arjun Kapoor after their divorce. However, Arjun and Malaika broke up last year.

Opening up on the judgment, she told Hindustan Times, “It was tough because people love to tell you what you should or shouldn’t be. I was judged for my career, my clothes, my relationships – you name it. But the day I stopped explaining myself was the day I felt free. My biggest takeaway. The only narrative that matters is the one you write for yourself.”

Malaika further stated that she has been called too bold and outspoken, but she wears it like a crown now. The actress continued, “I’ve been called too bold, too outspoken, too everything. And honestly, I wear it like a crown now. If I am too much for someone, they are probably not enough for me. Whether in fashion, fitness or just film choices I’ve made, I’ve never followed a formula. I’ve always believed that real confidence comes when you stop performing for the world and start living for yourself.”

Malaika Arora

She then revealed that there are days when she questions herself, but she has learnt to meet those moments with kindness rather than criticism. Meanwhile, on the work front, Malaika Arora is set to make a special appearance in a song in Thama. The Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna starrer will be releasing in October this year. She was previously seen in the song Majha Yek Number from the Marathi film Yek Number. She is also known for her dance numbers Chaiyya Chaiyya with Shah Rukh Khan, Gur Naalo Ishq Mitha, Kaal Dhamaal and Munni Badnaam Hui.

It’s no mistake that JADE’s debut solo album THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! is a thoroughly poptacular affair. “I live and breathe pop, I always have done,” she tells the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast (listen to her full interview, below). “I just am obsessed with it.”

Billboard has called the album “a distinct, dazzlingly ornate record” that takes sonic cues from divas like Diana Ross, Madonna and Janet Jackson, and demonstrates the breadth of her “taste as a pop student and skills as a wide-ranging vocal dynamo.”

JADE first made her mark on the pop landscape as Jade Thirlwall, a member of the British girl group Little Mix. The ensemble was formed in 2011 on the U.K. reality competition program The X Factor and notched numerous hit albums on both sides of the Atlantic, including a whopping 19 top 10-charted hits on the U.K. Official Singles Chart. In 2022, the act went on hiatus while the individual members explored solo endeavors.

Fast-forward to 2024, and JADE’s debut solo single “Angel of My Dreams” hit No. 7 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart. She followed it with another top 40 hit in “FUFN (F— You For Now)” this past March, and won her first solo BRIT Award for Best Pop Act that same month. Through the summertime, JADE played major festivals including Glastonbury, and opened for Chappell Roan in Edinburgh. Her THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! – THE TOUR kicks off Oct. 8 in Dublin and continues on into the U.K. through Oct. 22 in London, which she has “hope” will come to the U.S.

The Billboard Pop Shop Podcast caught up with JADE quite literally a few hours before THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! was released on Sept. 12. Here are some excerpts of her chat with the podcast, which you can listen to in full below.

On when the writing process for the album began.

The album writing process started, I think, like three years ago now, right off the back of the Little Mix hiatus. I went straight into the studio, writing nonstop, figuring out what my sound was on my own. And then I think just over, maybe, a year and a half ago was when “Angel of My Dreams” was written. And I think once that happened, that kind of became the catalyst for what the album would be, and everything just fell into place from that point onwards.

How she’s staying in the moment and celebrating the album’s arrival.

In the next few weeks, I just want to be super present with this record. It’s something I’m so proud of and waited a long time for. And I want it to feel like a celebration between me and my fans and see as many of them as possible. And I think in this job, in this music industry, you’re constantly on the move, and you can easily just sort of get swept up in all the politics and the promotion and marketing and all that stuff. And just forget that actually it’s really f—ing cool. And you are able to just make an album, and you should take time to be proud of that and be present for it.

On how SHOWBIZ has an “element of chaos.”

And then I think the album itself has an element of chaos to it, just sonically. And each song is different to the next. I consciously didn’t want it to be a super cohesive or conceptualized album, because the truth is that I was experimenting for this and trying different sounds, figuring out who I am. So I wanted the album to literally sound like that. And with songs like “Angel of My Dreams” or “It Girl,” and, you know, even to “Fantasy,” every song has its own identity. And I guess that’s where the kind of chaos of the record lies. I feel like you can hear it … so that day she was, she was trying this sound, and she was merging these genres. It’s a very sort of experimental pop record, I would say.

On JADE’s love of pop music.

I live and breathe pop. I always have done. I just am obsessed with it. And I’ve done a lot of research. Ever since I was a little girl, it’s always been something I’ve been obsessed with — not just the music, but, like, just every part of it. Like, I’d have the dolls of my favorite artists, and the CDs, and I’d open it up, and I’d look at all the credits and the lyrics and take it all in and study the artwork and the videos. So for me, the best pop artists are the ones that don’t just focus on the music and they see it as a whole brand, I suppose. And so I have a lot of fun with that. And, you know, making a pop record that feels very visual, too. So, yeah, I always knew, and I always will be like a pop girly. But, it was interesting, and it was essential to sort of find out what the JADE sound is. And, like, how do I stand out and make my mark in the pop world?

Did the genesis of SHOWBIZ begin before Little Mix went on hiatus?

I think, like musically, I kind of had an inkling of where I might go. There was a song I wrote for the girls on our fifth album called “Wasabi,” and it kind of became a fan favorite, and it became almost known as like, as my song within the group. And so, I kind of knew that that would be a good starting point. But I think lyrically, it wasn’t until after, I think because I was so used to writing lyrics that were very universal or very relatable for everyone, because in a group you can’t be too personal. It’s not just about you. So, it wasn’t until afterwards, when I was in rooms on my own, and getting more confident and sort of realizing, oh, I actually can just literally write about anything now, and I can be, almost uncomfortably honest at times with, like, my own experience.

On her love of Madonna.

She is one of the best pop stars we will ever get. She reinvents herself with every era, which I find hugely inspiring. As someone that wants a long career, for me, Madonna is the epitome of longevity as a pop artist, and I think that’s when you are so sure of who you are, and you speak up and speak out for things you feel passionate about. I watched her documentaries as a teenager, and I always respected that she wasn’t afraid to be controversial, or afraid to stand up for what she thought was right. So, I’ve took that with me as a solo artist.

On what to expect from her THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY! tour.

I think my THAT’S SHOWBIZ BABY concert will play on that sort of theatrical theme. And I’m actually really excited to be in theaters, because it means I can really delve into taking advantage of those stages and making it almost feel like a musical theater production or a cabaret show. So I’m very excited for that. And, all the songs are all very different. So it’s going to make for a, well, a show that won’t be boring. (Laughs.) You know, obviously I love to go in with the costumes, and we’ll have the band and the choreography. So, yeah, I’m really working hard with my creative director on how we make this smaller stage feel like you’ve entered my world and you leave there being like, ‘Oh, fuck, you know, she really made that work.’

Could the tour visit America?

I think so. Yeah, I hope so. We hope so. We’re all putting our heads together of how to make this work. Because I really, really want to get over to the U.S. and do shows there and in Europe and just everywhere. You know, it’s always been a dream of mine to be able to say that I’m doing my own headline show, whatever that is.
