“I hope they’re coming to rescue us…” National Geographic has debuted an official trailer for a fascinating rescue documentary film titled Lost in the Jungle, telling a remarkable true story just like the other doc The Rescue before. After a deadly plane crash strands 4 young siblings deep in the Colombian rainforest, a dramatic rescue mission unfolds, uniting Indigenous trackers and the military in a race against time. Four Indigenous siblings survived 40 days in Colombia’s jungle after a plane crash in May 2023. The film shows their story through footage, recreations, and animation, highlighting Indigenous-military cooperation and traditional knowledge. This was also turned in the Netflix doc series The Lost Children already – now here’s a doc film about it. From National Geographic Doc Films and Oscar-winning filmmakers Chai Vasarhelyi & Jimmy Chin, along with Emmy Award-winning director Juan Camilo Cruz, Lost in the Jungle is a gripping tale of survival, courage and hope. Available for streaming in a few weeks on Disney+ after premiering at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival this weekend. A remarkable story with so many elements to it not just a rescue.

Here’s the trailer (+ poster) for Vasarhelyi & Chin & Cruz’s doc film Lost in the Jungle, from YouTube:

Blake Lively To Star In ‘The Survival List’ Rom-Com At Lionsgate

After working with Blake Lively on the Another Simple Favor films, Lionsgate has acquired the Tom Melia spec The Survival List as a starring vehicle for the actress, which she’ll also produce, Deadline has confirmed.

An action rom-com, the film follows Annie, a highbrow reality TV producer who against her wishes, is assigned to a new show hosted by famous survival expert Chopper Lane. However, when a shipwreck strands them on a deserted island, Annie discovers Chopper is a fraud and knows nothing about survival, leaving her in charge of figuring out how to keep them alive. Forced to work together, they begin to discover an unlikely chemistry.

Marc Platt, the Oscar nominee behind the Wicked films and the recent live-action How to Train Your Dragon, is in talks to produce alongside Lively. Scott O’Brien will oversee the project for Lionsgate.

Recently caught up in a legal battle with Justin Baldoni surrounding their hit Sony film It Ends with Us that continues to unfold, Lively has just been seen starring in Amazon MGM & Lionsgate’s Another Simple Favor, where she reteamed with director Paul Feig and co-star Anna Kendrick. The sequel premiered on Prime Video in May after premiering at SXSW.

Set to release sequel Wicked: For Good via Universal in November, after seeing Wicked gross over $756M worldwide, Platt’s other recent global hit How to Train Your Dragon made over $626M in thesters.

Melia is a British writer best known for Rye Lane, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for Outstanding British Film at the 2024 BAFTAs, also scoring 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards. He’s also written for the Sky drama series Brassic, as well as the Sky comedy Bloods.

“Discipline, trust, faith… These are all pillars of a successful young man.” Dark Star Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for an intriguing survival thriller titled The Wilderness, based on a true story, made by filmmaker Spencer King. Executive produced by Aaron Paul, this is set to hit theaters nationwide in October this fall. Kidnapped and abandoned in the Utah desert, a group of troubled boys are forced into a ruthless “Wilderness Therapy” program. Cut off entirely from the world, they must survive both the elements and the mind games of a director who may not be trying to save them at all. What is this survival program really about? Looks like some religious thing that they force upon people to break them down. Based on real life experiences by writer / director Spencer King. The Wilderness stars Lamar Johnson, Hunter Doohan, Liana Liberato, Sean Avery, Vinessa Shaw, Sam Jaeger, Aaron Holliday, Matt Gomez-Hidaka, & James Le Gros. This certainly looks compelling and unsettling, I hope these kids find a safe way home.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Spencer King’s film The Wilderness, direct from YouTube:

The Wilderness Poster

A group of troubled teenage boys are kidnapped from their homes and taken out deep into the unforgiving Utah desert, where they are forced into a brutal and secretive “Wilderness Therapy” program. With no contact with the outside world or any other support, their only way home is to earn the approval of the enigmatic program director—whose motives are far from therapeutic. As the line between rehabilitation and manipulation blurs, the boys must decide whether to survive the program or escape it. The Wilderness is written and directed by American indie filmmaker Spencer King, director of the films Black Petunia and Time Now previously. Produced by Aaron Paul, Amy Berg, Larissa Beck, Lily Blavin, Hunter Doohan, Ali Edwards, & Spencer King. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals, as far as we know. Dark Star opens King’s The Wilderness thriller in US theaters nationwide starting October 17th, 2025 this fall. Want to watch it?
