SNL ‘Veteran’ Ken Aymong Returns to Show After 2021 Retirement

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Ken Aymong, one of a handful of key lieutenants to executive producer Lorne Michaels at NBC‘s “Saturday Night Live,” made a surprise cameo on the program’s latest episode — in the credits.

Aymong, who retired from “SNL” in 2021 after joining the venerable program in the mid-1980’s, has returned to the show as a supervising producer for the show’s current 51st season, according to a person familiar with the matter. His name scrolled by during the show’s credits early Sunday morning as it closed out its second episode. Details on what spurred him to return to the fold could not immediately be learned, but Aymong had been brought back to help out with some of the landmark events in “SNL“‘s 50th season, which included a massive concert at Radio City Music Hall.

Aymong has long been known not for booking guest hosts or writing celebrated sketches, but for something perhaps more important: maintaining the business of the TV institution. ““I always look at the financial perspective of the show,” Aymong said in “Live From New York,” an oral history of the program by Tom Shales and James Andrew Miller. “I want it to go on forever.”

NBC declined to make producers available for comment. LateNighter previously reported on Aymong’s return to “SNL.”

Aymong’s return comes as “SNL” has been giving new duties to some of Michaels’ top deputies. Erin Doyle, a longtime producer, was elevated at the start of the season to the top echelon of senior staff. Erik Kenward, another member of that circle, has taken on head-writer duties this season with a band of other “SNL” veterans. Michaels, who turned 80 in November of last year, has given no signal that he wants to step back from the show he has managed and influenced for nearly half a century, but has given some indications that others will take up day-to-day duties he might once have done himself.

Michaels has developed a coterie of key aides over the years. In addition to Aymong, Doyle and Kenward, they also include Steve Higgins, another top producer who also works on NBC’s “Tonight Show” and Mike Shoemaker, a former “SNL” producer who currently runs “Late Night with Seth Meyers” behind the scenes. Others in the past have included Lindsay Shookus and Marci Klein, both of whom are no longer with the show. Aymong’s duties aren’t the glitziest, but are quite crucial as “SNL” manages its production budget for special effects, set design, and many other elements that help the show stand up under intense linear, streaming and social-media scrutiny week after week.

Charli XCX Makes Surprise SNL Appearance During Role Model Song

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Charli XCX wasn’t supposed to be Saturday Night Live‘s musical guest, but that didn’t stop her from making a surprise appearance on the late night show Saturday night.

Role Model, who served as the official musical guest of the second episode of season 51, hit the stage where he performed a rendition of his track, “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out.” When performing the song at his live shows, the artist typically brings out a special guest of his own, known better to fans as the “Sally girl.”

In the past, Role Model has chosen artists like Conan Gray and Charli XCX’s dear friend and Sweat Tour co-headliner Troye Sivan to serve the role. The two have taken joking jabs at one another on social media due to faux “Sally girl” drama, which included Role Model featuring the “Rush” singer during one of his shows.

However, it appeared Charli XCX and Role Model officially worked it out on the remix (or SNL stage) as she delivered a surprise cameo during his performance of the beloved song. Eagle-eyed fans also pointed out that the “360” singer wore the same shirt Role Model had on during promo shots that were released earlier this week for the episode. The shirt read, “max’s kansas city.”

The “Look At That Woman” singer made his SNL debut on Saturday night, where he was joined by host Amy Poehler. The second episode of season 51 proved to be a star-studded night in terms of appearances, as former cast members Tina Fey and Seth Meyers also made unanticipated cameos.

Charli XCX hosted SNL for the first time last year, where she also doubled as musical guest. The Grammy winner is known to spotlight fans and (sometimes) surprise celebrities during special segments of her concerts. Set to her track “Apple,” Charli XCX regularly picks a concertgoer or public figure to be platformed on the big screen of her shows, where they often recite the popular TikTok dance to the tune of her song.

Her SNL appearance comes amid speculation of an alleged feud with Taylor Swift. The latter singer’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, featured a track entitled “Actually Romantic,” which some fans believe is a response to Charli XCX’s 2024 track “Sympathy is a knife.”

“Jim may be the funniest human I know.” 🤣 Peacock has debuted the trailer for a streaming documentary special titled Downey Wrote That, as part of their ongoing “Saturday Night Live” celebrations. The hour-long doc explores the sketches, contributions and influence of Jim Downey – SNL’s longest-running writer who coined “strategery” mocking President George W. Bush and was once called the “best political humorist alive.” While diving into the storied history of TV’s most iconic & longest-running comedy institution, this will uncover the mastery of Downey’s craft as the show’s behind-the-scenes comedic architect for over three decades. Largely unseen by audiences, Jim is the prolific writer behind many of SNL’s most unforgettable sketches, quotable lines and groundbreaking political satire. This doc features interviews with tons of SNL regulars including Fred Armisen, Dana Carvey, Will Forte, Al Franken, Bill Hader, Darrell Hammond, David Letterman, Jon Lovitz, Seth Meyers, Lorne Michaels, and many more. This looks like a delightfully upbeat & worthy tribute to one of the great comedy writers. We never see them, but they still deserves all the acclaim.

Here’s the official trailer for Brent Hodge’s doc Downey Wrote That, direct from Peacock’s YouTube:

Bad Bunny Addresses Super Bowl Backlash During SNL Season 51 Premiere

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Bad Bunny is back on Saturday Night Live!

The three-time Grammy winner returned for his second time hosting on Saturday night, where he addressed some of the backlash surrounding him being named the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner.

Bad Bunny poked fun at conservative criticism of him being tapped to perform at the big game, noting that everyone is excited about his performance, “even Fox News!”

“You might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show. And I’m very happy, and I think everybody’s happy about it,” which led the crowd to erupt in applause, before he continued, “Even Fox News!”

SNL then cut to a montaged clip of pieced together segments that made out Fox News hosts saying, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician and he should be the next president.”

“I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl, I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy,” to which he then began speaking in Spanish.

“Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors,” he said in Spanish. “It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”

He finished his monologue off by noting in English, “And, if you didn’t understand know what I just said, you have four months to learn!”

Earlier in the monologue, a clip of Jon Hamm (who Bad Bunny called Juan Jamón) dancing to his music at a show was shown. The SNL cameras then panned over to Hamm in attendance at the show.

During the cold open, Colin Jost took the stage where he portrayed U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, where he joked that the military would adhere to the highest standards set by President Donald Trump.

“Our military will now have the same rules as any good frat party,” he said. “No fat chicks. And if you’re a fat dude, god damnit, you better be funny as hell.” James Austin Johnson’s Trump then made his return, where he said he was “just here keeping my eye on SNL, making sure they don’t say anything too mean about me.”

“SNL 51, off to a rough start. 17 new cast members, and they got the ‘Update’ guy doing the cold open. Look at Colin, poor Colin. We knew they wouldn’t let him do the whole open by himself,” he joked.

Johnson’s Trump, too, very briefly touched on the controversy surrounding the Riyadh Comedy Festival, noting he was “surprised Colin’s here, I thought he’d be with his friends at the Riyadh Comedy Festival.”

Johnson’s Trump further poked fun at the brief suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a reference to his “attack dog” Brendan Carr, with Mikey Day making an appearance in the cold open as the FCC chair.

After the news of Bad Bunny being named the headlining act was revealed, Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski said ICE will be in attendance at next year’s Super Bowl. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem further corroborated Lewandowski’s claims, assuring ICE agents would be “all over” the big game.

Before he was named the next Super Bowl headliner, Bad Bunny notably did not have any U.S. dates featured on his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour. He told i-D Magazine this was partly due to ICE concerns.

“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate — I’ve performed there many times. All of [the shows] have been successful,” Bad Bunny said. “But there was the issue of — like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

Elsewhere in the season 51 premiere, EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna, who voice characters in Netflix and Sony Animation’s hit movie KPop Demon Hunters, made a surprise appearance during a brunch-themed sketch. Their short cameo saw Bad Bunny’s character raving over the film, to which they then surprised the audience and gave their first-ever live performance of “Golden.”

Season 51 of SNL comes on the heels of a cast exodus this summer. Five cast members separated the show following its landmark 50th season, including Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow and Emil Wakim.

Other than Johnson’s Trump joking about season 51 featuring “17 new cast members” in the cold open, the cast shakeup was not further addressed.

Please Don’t Destroy sketches were also thrown out ahead of season 51, which formerly starred Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy. With the end of the bit, Higgins left SNL, while Marshall now joins as a featured player and Herlihy remains on the show’s staff as a writer. Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson and Veronika Slowikowska were also added to the cast.

Bad Bunny hosted the season 51 premiere of SNL, while Doja Cat served as the night’s musical guest, in her first appearance on the sketch comedy series.

The full slate of host and musical guests for the rest of the season has not yet been revealed, though Amy Poehler is set to host on Oct. 11 with Role Model as musical guest. Sabrina Carpenter will pull double duty in both roles on Oct. 18.

Huntr/x — or EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna — appear in sketch where host Bad Bunny proclaims his love for the hit animated movie

Saturday Night Live took on the pop culture phenomenon that is KPop Demon Hunters with a sketch that featured a surprise appearance by the three singers behind the animated film’s hit songs.

The sketch revolved around four friends — including host Bad Bunny — discussing the movie while eating brunch at a trendy restaurant. Bad Bunny’s character revealed his love of KPop Demon Hunters, which he watches repeatedly despite not having any kids.

“It’s actually not for kids. It’s for smart adults,” Bad Bunny’s Thomas tells his friends. When the conversation drifts toward music, Thomas again proclaims his fondness for KPop Demon Hunters. “In KPop Demon Hunters, songs are not just songs. They are weapons,” he said. “What else is gonna save you from demons, you idiot.”

The sketch continues down this path until Bowen Yang shows up uninvited as one of the demons from the film, possessing Sarah Sherman by singing the hit “Soda Pop.” Thankfully, Huntr/x — or EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna, who voiced the K-pop trio in the film — are also at the restaurant, vanquishing the demon with their song “Golden.”

The surprise appearance of Huntr/x marked the group’s first-ever performance, albeit in abbreviated form. However, on Tuesday, the trio will stage their first full performance together when they serve as musical guest on The Tonight Show.

‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Singers Make Surprise ‘SNL’ Appearance

Saturday Night Live season 51 is off to a “Golden” start.

EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna, who voice the characters of Rumi, Zoey and Mira in the hit Netflix and Sony Animation movie KPop Demon Hunters, made a surprise appearance during an SNL skit in the season 51 premiere. The short performance as part of a brunch-themed KPop Demon Hunters sketch marks the first-ever live performance of the song by the three women.

The ladies of Huntrix are set to make their first official and full-length performance of the song during Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. They’ll also be interviewed together. The news was announced last week, showing Fallon receiving a special invitation from some familiar faces for fans of KPop Demon Hunters.

The animated feature has become Netflix’s most popular title ever. The project — which chronicles the adventures of Huntrix, a K-pop girl group comprised of three members who just happen to also fight monsters from the underworld — has been a surprise hit for the streamer, and its soundtrack has spent several weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. THR has confirmed that a sequel film is in talks at Netflix and Sony Animation.

In August, Huntrix ended Alex Warren’s long-running No. 1 streak to take the top spot on the chart. After a flip-flop the following week, the song returned to No. 1, where it remains. Two other songs from the film are in the top 10 of the Hot 100. “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop,” sung by the film’s fictional boy group Saja Boys, sit at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. Six other songs from soundtrack, including Twice’s “Strategy,” are also charting on the Hot 100.

Following the appearance, EJAE, who also served one of the film’s key songwriters, announced her debut solo single, “In Another World,” which is set to be released on Oct. 24. “I’m so humbled and grateful for the love I’ve received as a songwriter and the singing voice of Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters. Getting so much exposure so quickly has been strange, exciting, and truthfully a little scary,” she said in an Instagram post announcing the song.

“People keep referring to me as an ‘artist’ or a ‘star’ — which is everything 11-year-old EJAE dreamed of, but over the years, I became comfortable behind the scenes and I didn’t think I was meant to be an artist,” she continued. “Writing this song helped me through a hard time, and I hope that sharing it can help others too.”

Benicio Del Toro Makes Surprise Cameo In ‘SNL’ Skit About Spanish

by jummy84 October 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Benicio Del Toro made a surprise cameo appearance on Saturday Night Live tonight, joining host Bad Bunny and frequent collaborator Marcello Hernandez in a sketch spoofing the idiosyncrasies of the Spanish language.

Set in a medieval Spain, Bad Bunny and Hernandez were seen explaining to a cohort of scholars the reasoning behind why certain nouns were masculine or feminine.

“Yes, the ocean is a boy because it is fun, but sometimes, for no reason, it kill you,” Hernandez said.

Kenan Thompson then made the conclusion that a “girl word is a girl thing.” For example, dress would be feminine. “No, dress [vestido] is a boy,” Bad Bunny clarified.

Meanwhile, the word Bible is feminine “because it’s beautiful,” Bad Bunny said, and “also because, the Bible, everything you wanna do, it say no,” Hernandez added.

The Barcelona delegate, as portrayed by an overly ceceando Mikey Day, suggested skipping the tiresome lecture, only to be taken off camera to be beheaded.

At this point, Hernandez introduced his cousin to list “a few more rules that you’ll only need to remember for school but will be totally useless in real life.”

Enter stage left: Del Toro, fresh off his press tour for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.

“Listen carefully. We will do also formal and informal, like you or You,” he began, drawing the difference between the informal tú and formal usted, both Spanish pronouns for second-person singular.

He continued, “What if the letter ‘r’ lasted a really long time? Like errrrre,” joking about the Spanish rolled R, or trill as it’s known in English, and vibrante múltiple, as it’s known in Spanish.

Watch the sketch above.

‘SNL’ Books Bad Bunny, Role Model, Sabrina Carpenter

Artists both familiar and new will be on display when NBC’s Saturday Night Live returns for its 51st season this fall.

Bad Bunny will serve as host and Doja Cat as musical guest for the debut episode on Oct. 4. Bunny is about to wrap a historic residency in his home country of Puerto Rico in support of his latest album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, which is up for 12 Latin Grammy awards. Doja Cat’s new album, Vie, is due Sept. 26.

Role Model will perform on the Oct. 11 episode, which will be hosted by former cast member Amy Poehler. The singer/songwriter broke through last year with his album Kansas Anymore and enjoyed a high-profile opening act slot for Gracie Abrams. His song “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” recently topped Billboard‘s Adult Alternative Airplay chart.

Sabrina Carpenter will host for the first time and perform for the second on the Oct. 18 edition, five days before the start of a new North American leg of her massive Short n’ Sweet Tour. Carpenter’s second album in a year, Man’s Best Friend, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 earlier this month.

Bad Bunny and Carpenter both participated in specials celebrating the 50th anniversary of SNL earlier this year, with the former performing two songs at a music-focused Radio City Music Hall event and the latter duetting with Paul Simon on Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound” during a retrospective taped in the fabled Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center.

Bad Bunny also served as the musical guest for the 50th season finale episode in May, hosted by Scarlett Johansson.

New ‘SNL’ schedule features Sabrina Carpenter as both musical guest and host

Sabrina Carpenter will pull double duty as both host and musical guest when Saturday Night Live returns next month.

Off the back of her new album ‘Man’s Best Friend’, the pop star will appear on the third episode of the iconic show’s 51st season on October 18. It will be the first time she has hosted but she was previously a musical guest on season 49. She was also part of the show’s 50th anniversary celebrations back in February, at one point appearing in a sketch where she sang an off-key version of ‘Espresso’.

The season 51 premiere has Bad Bunny booked to host on October 4, while Doja Cat will be making her SNL debut as musical guest. SNL alumna Amy Poehler will return to host on October 11, with Role Model as the musical guest.

Carpenter has also been announced as one of the headliners of next year’s Coachella alongside Justin Bieber and Karol G. After days of speculation, she was confirmed to be closing out the Friday night of both weekends at the desert music festival.

Coachella 2026 will take place between April 10 and 12, and again on April 17 to 19. As for tickets, you’ll be able to get yours here.

‘Man’s Best Friend’ scored a four-star review from NME, with Nick Levine writing: “Musically, this album isn’t markedly different from its predecessor, though it has a few more country-leaning cuts sprinkled among the daytime disco and featherlight funk.

“It also sticks to Carpenter’s winning formula of pairing sticky melodies with pithy lyrics about the flaws and allure of inadequate males. If there were a Bechdel Test for pop albums, ‘Man’s Best Friend’ wouldn’t be in danger of passing it.”

Meanwhile, Carpenter recently joked that her label “really didn’t give a fuck” about her after learning there were only 200 copies of her debut album made for vinyl.
