A high-stakes game of chess transpired between friends-turned-unwilling foes Matty (Kathy Bates) and Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) in Matlock Season 2 Episode 2, and fans are concerned about where the season is headed because of it. Some are complaining that there were “immature” scenes in the episode, and others are wondering if there’s a bigger scheme at play here that would explain what they view as confusing choices for the characters of Matty and Olympia.
The episode, titled “Another Matlock,” showed Matty and Olympia constantly trying to one-up each other as they tried to get the Wellbrexa study into their possession, or in Olympia’s case, keep it hidden. Matty found the study in Olympia’s safe at her brownstone, took it, and replaced it with a document of equal size but blank pages. When Olympia discovered what Matty did, she told her that the study was a fake generated by AI. The real Wellbrexa study, according to Olympia, was in a safety deposit box in Connecticut, kept there so that Julian (Jason Ritter) wouldn’t be able to find it and destroy the evidence, should he give in to his fearful impulses and commit another criminal offense.
Olympia took a page from Matty’s book when she secretly recorded a tense conversation between them. Olympia triggered Matty’s anger when she threatened to get her and Edwin (Sam Anderson) imprisoned for bank fraud and other crimes, which would leave their grandson, Alfie (Aaron D. Harris), without guardians. Matty practically growled that she’s “untouchable,” and this audio is now Olympia’s leverage over the Kingston family in this Wellbrexa debacle.
Matty had offered to let Olympia attend her meeting with The New York Times in an act of goodwill to signal that she cared about her fate and the fate of her children, but Olympia doesn’t want her ex-husband implicated in this at all; she wants Julian’s father, Senior (Beau Bridges), to take the fall since it was him who ordered Julian to hide the study. As Matty pointed out, Julian didn’t have to follow that order, but he did.
The comments section of our Matlock Season 2 Episode 2 recap showed a dislike for the episode, particularly the Matty and Olympia feud and the scenes between Julian and Billy (David Del Rio), in which Julian snapped over the idea of sharing an apartment building with him.
“Did not like this episode and how it is leading the two main characters down a path of negativity towards one another,” one comment reads. “If this is just going to be a weekly jostle as to which woman gets the upper hand, then the show will become less watchable. Just like the Julien/Billy scenes. That storyline was bad. Too immature.”
One fan feels that Matty and Olympia’s plot in this episode didn’t make sense, arguing that Matty and Olympia love each other too much to be fighting like this, leading them to wonder if the women are laying out an elaborate scheme to take down Senior and Wellbrexa while protecting Olympia’s family.

“I want the Olympia/Matty friendship back. How is that going to happen now?” the comment says. “I just hope this is all some secret mastermind plan between Matty and Olympia set up so Olympia can take control of the narrative without being implicated or suspected by Senior. In the last episode, Olympia asked Matty if she liked theater. Granted, this was about the case of the week, but maybe there was a hint that a bigger performance was about to ensue. To take someone like Senior down, a man above the law, they need to be enemies.”
Olympia taking Edwin on a road trip to the Connecticut safety deposit box, only to leave him stranded in a move against her friend, stood out to another fan.
“I really love Bates and I think she [is] doing [a] terrific job as Matlock, love how she quotes ‘innocent old lady.’ But I can’t agree more how this episode was full of [shots] and upper [cuts], very unrealistic, taking Edwin on the trip to just dump him there, so she can record?” they said. “I’m not sure how Matty and Olympia have a chance to bring back friendship. Or maybe there is an act? But for whom?”
A similar discussion is happening over on Reddit.
“I’m not sure I enjoy the direction the show is taking,” a thread said. “Writing, acting, and direction are all great. Perhaps too good. The whole episode gave me anxiety.”
“I think for me it’s because up until this episode Matty always had the upper hand, and for now it seems the tables have turned,” one reply read. “That in [and] of itself created anxiety for me because I am rooting for her and Edwin. We tend to want the happily ever after, neat and tidy. Things just got real messy.”
One fan said in response, “It is, but I just don’t like the way Olympia is trying to cover for Julian. Yeah, Senior was the [kingpin] but doing what she is doing to protect somebody who did do wrong… I just don’t know. I don’t want to hate Olympia, but right now I do, and it hurts.”
The AI study development stood out to one viewer. They said, “Just a casual observation, as a guy who was working on his laptop while his wife watched this episode: it seemed like every single person on the show was hiding something from someone else, who was hiding something from someone else, who thought someone was on their side but who secretly isn’t because, you know, they’re hiding something…it never ended.”
Back on property, guests tuck into Southeast Asian dishes at the pop-up Lola restaurant, helmed by Filipino-Canadian chef Elmark Andres, where the menu is written in a blend of Tagalog and English, the seafood is locally sourced, and seasonal produce comes from the Bodega Ridge farm. Or they can head to the cedar-shingled Pink Geranium, a bright, sunny all-day café and specialty food store launched in 2024, where lunch might be a warming bowl of tom kha soup (coconut, red pepper, green onion, shimeji and king oyster mushrooms) and freshly baked focaccia with rosemary and garlic confit. Regular community programming runs the gamut from poetry readings to queer opera, and a large stone inglenook fireplace invites curling up with a book and a coffee on brisk winter afternoons.
Food has an outsized importance on such a lightly populated island as Galiano, home to standout restaurants like Oxeye and The Crane and Robin—though most islanders would agree that the fine-dining temple Pilgrimme near Montague Harbour is Galiano’s most sought-after table. At the helm is Winnipeg-born chef Jesse McCleery, who opened the restaurant in 2014 after a stint at Copenhagen’s groundbreaking Noma, alongside his partner, chef Melanie Witt.

Tucked in a dense forest that looks straight out of a children’s storybook, the restaurant occupies a log cabin decorated with hanging lanterns, antler accents, shearling throws, and a reproduction of Vladimir Tretchikoff’s “Chinese Girl.” It’s cozy and unpretentious, with room for just 16 diners, putting the spotlight on seasonal dishes served on sculptural dishware by local ceramicists like Ilana Fonariov.
The 12-course tasting menu is a love letter to Galiano’s bounty: foraged kelp, sea buckthorn, aronia berries (“I’ve never seen them grow outside Scandinavia,” muses McCleery), and Sichuan pepper leaves. Wild-ferment vinegars made from salal berries and grand fir needles stand in when yuzu, kaffir lime, or other Japanese citrus isn’t readily available from a grower on neighboring Salt Spring Island. True to Galiano form, almost all the fruit comes not from professional farms but from local neighbors and residents.

“There are so many people here with hobby gardens and orchards,” McCleery notes. “People drop by with a massive box of plums or apples, which we’ll trade for a pizza,” he says, referencing his other Galiano project, Charmer Pizza, a pop-up restaurant specializing in 48-hour wild-ferment sourdough made with organic British Columbia grains.

The 60-year-old actress was a guest at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Wednesday (15.10.25) and took a moment before the glitzy event to reflect on the impact the VS brand has had on her.
She told stylist Law Roach during the pre-show: “I probably have probably the same history with Victoria’s Secret that most civilians do which is it’s sort of this fantasy.
“And whether you fit in or not in reality kind of doesn’t matter.
“It’s a longtime brand that’s played a role in a lot of our lives for a really, really long time.”
The Sex And the City legend stepped out in a black Alexander Wang dress she bought “1,000 years ago”, pairing it with a Dolce and Gabbana jacket, and heels from her own shoe brand.
She joked she was “wearing nothing” for the event, describing her outfit as “pieces I’ve had in my closet forever”.
Sarah recently hinted she could still reprise her SATC character Carrie Bradshaw again in the future, despite seemingly saying farewell to her alter ego at the end of sequel series And Just Like That.
Asked about the decision to bring the series to a conclusion, Sarah told CBS Mornings: “I mean, I’m not certain I understand what that decision means, actually.
“Because I could just be on hiatus, you know.”
Sarah did not expand on what she meant with the “hiatus” suggestion but described the “difficult decision” she and showrunner Michael Patrick King made to finish And Just Like That… .
The Mars Attacks! star said: “Michael and I talked a lot about it, and I think it’s out of respect for this really singular professional experience that you have to consider what you want to do (and) have you done it.
“And sometimes it’s best to gracefully walk away when things feel really right and energetic, versus squeezing and exploiting people’s generosity and hospitality.”

The fashion show took place on Wednesday night (October 15) in New York, and marked just the second time in Victoria Secret’s Fashion Show’s long history that the fashion show has featured an all-women performance line-up.
Missy Elliott headlined the performances, playing a medley of her greatest hits. She kicked off her raucous set with ‘Minute Man’, before one of her biggest tracks ever, ‘Get Ur Freak On’. She then put things in reverse for ‘Work It’ and closed the night with ‘Lose Control’.
Prior to Missy Elliott’s set, Coachella 2026 headliner Karol G performed two songs that served as a powerful shout out to her Latin heritage, as she sang ‘Ivonny Bonita’ and ‘Latina Forever’. She also walked the runway towards the end of her set and earned a standing ovation.
Pop star Madison Beer also performed earlier in the show, where she performed ‘Bittersweet’ live for the first time, alongside hits like ‘Make You Mine’ and ‘Yes Baby’. K-pop group TWICE also performed, making them only the second K-pop act to perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after BLACKPINK‘s Lisa last year.

2024’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show made its return for the first time in six years, and for the first time ever featured a performance line-up that was entirely made up of women – it featured a bombshell line-up that included BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Tyla and was headlined by the legendary Cher.

“We solemnly swear not to slick-back the hair,” Victoria’s Secret wrote in a recent Instagram Reel weeks before the iconic runway show. Polished, slicked-back styles certainly dominated the looks last year, much to the dismay of fans craving that bombshell, VS Angel-level bounce. Rest assured, the big, sexy blowouts are back this year—just with a modern 2025 edge.
In an interview with Zanna Roberts Rassi backstage, the show’s lead hairstylist Jawara reveals he wanted to create a modern version of the big, bouncy blowout. “It’s a little sleeker than usual,” he shares. “Still voluminous waves and curls, but sleeker towards the ends. [It’s] a bit more modern, [a] bit more sexy.”

To create the look, he first applies thickening spray on models’ roots, then blow-dries hair in sections “against the grain” to encourage volume at the crown. (Translation: Pull each section of hair upwards as you blow-dry.) “Blow it against the root,” he advises, using a “really hot blow-dryer” to ensure a smooth, bouncy finish. (Model Paloma Elsesser is quick to chime in: A good blow-dryer makes all the difference.)

Once the section is completely dry, “Back-comb it a little bit, add texturizing spray, and let it sit,” he shares. After models get their makeup done, he unravels the pins (he decided to use pins instead of rollers tonight, he tells Who What Wear backstage) and brushes out the curls depending on models’ preferred parting: side, center, or fully brushed back. And there you have it! Still classically VS, but with sleeker, more polished ends. A very happy medium, if you ask me.

We’re at a riverside club near her Oxfordshire home for our photoshoot and interview and it’s nice to be greeted by a woman with perfect manners, who looks as pleased to see you as she would when lifting a perfectly cooked chicken out of the oven. In her 91st year [her 90th birthday was on 24 March], she’s here with Freddie, one of her two working cocker spaniels, who, despite already having had an hour-long walk in the countryside, looks up at her imploringly. I know how you feel, Freddie. We all want to have a bit of attention from Dame Mary.
I first met her 31 years ago when she was plain Mrs Berry and I attended an Aga cookery course at her home. Three decades on, she’s as beady as ever, inspecting what she’s about to wear and complimenting her assistant on her pink jumper. She’s filmed a new six-part series, Mary at 90: a Lifetime of Cooking, in which she looks back at her long career on television, as well as concocting modern twists to some of her own favourite recipes, with six famous faces, including Jamie Oliver, Gabby Logan and Tom Allen.
ITV footage from the 70s shows Mary demure, round-faced, with perfect RP, in a chintzy blouse. But behind those periwinkle eyes and that fluting voice lies ferocious drive. “Life is competitive. And whether you’re going for a job, or playing a sport, it’s good to do everything well,” she says now.
She is also a culinary time capsule, noting (and using) the advent of five spice, fennel, fresh ginger. She can pinpoint the arrival of tin foil. “I was working for Home and Freezer Digest, and I remember the editor coming in and saying, ‘Look what’s arrived from America!’ The first thing we said was, ‘Do we use the shiny side or the dull side? Does it matter?’”
Today, she has written more than 70 books that have sold over five million copies. Despite her drive, it was Delia Smith who pointed out, years ago, visiting Mary and her husband Paul Hunnings at their home, that she was underpaid. “Oh, Delia was absolutely brilliant. She came to stay with her husband Michael and we chatted about all sorts of things. I mean, you should never discuss money, sex or religion. But we did discuss money. She said, ‘You’re not being paid enough for your writing. I know an agent, Felicity Bryan, and I’ll ring her tonight.’ And the next day I got a postcard from Felicity saying, ‘Can we meet?’ And I’m still with her agency for my books.” [Bryan died in 2020.]
Looking back at the archive footage, it’s clear that TV chefs today don’t know how lucky they are. Mary recalls her first appearance in the mid-70s on Good Afternoon, ITV’s magazine show, in which she was to demonstrate the principles of a freezer. “I wrote a book for Marks & Spencer about how to freeze things well, because if you put something in the freezer which is grotty, it will come out grotty.
“There was no background help [for the TV appearance]. I had to bring in everything, every pot, pan, knife. All the food, vegetables, fish, mince, seasoning. I would be picked up in a taxi in the dark and arrive at Thames Television, where the tables were still set with newspapers from last night’s bulletin. They’d build a kitchen, and stick a clock on the wall, but the drawers didn’t open. There was no drain; water from the tap would empty into a bucket beneath my feet. If I turned the tap on too strongly, to wash a cabbage, say, and got carried away chatting to Judith [Chalmers, the Good Afternoon presenter], the bucket underneath would overflow and we would be paddling in water.”
After her initial invitation, Mary became a regular, standing alongside Chalmers, showing viewers how to cook. She could hardly have known it, but her first job for the Electricity Board in Bath, demonstrating how electric ovens can create the perfect sponge, was ideal training.
Watching herself back, Mary is helpless with laughter. “My voice! It was so high-pitched. But I had one aim. And that was to get people to cook and enjoy it as much as I did.” Recipes would be provided for viewers, but only ones who bothered to send in that historical artefact, a stamped addressed envelope. “Ask young people today what an SAE is, and they just look at you,” she marvels. As for brand Berry, was there a specially curated look? Zero attention. “There was no make-up. No wardrobe. You just arrived in your own clothes. And I would bring in daisies I’d picked from the garden.”
When Mary made her debut on The Great British Bake Off in 2010, it cemented her name with a new generation. She landed the job after an audition, “But I said, ‘I do need someone with a second opinion, and [a rare moment of vulnerability] I’m really not very good at bread. It’s not my forte.’ So that’s how Paul Hollywood came. And gosh, he was very different from me. I don’t want tears. So, if something had collapsed in the middle, I’d say to a contestant, ‘Do you know what you could do with that? You could just scoop a little bit out, fill it with fruit and cream, and you’ve got a pudding.”
Later, when Bake Off moved to Channel 4 in 2017, she stayed with the corporation. “I feel very cherished by the BBC, and it was quite right I stayed with them,” she says. And so, Mary’s TV career continued, with series such as Classic Mary Berry and a plethora of Christmas specials.
Away from the screen, she likes to play croquet, read, walk her dogs and cook with her grandchildren. She is trim but doesn’t go to the gym. “Why go to the gym when you can walk a dog for an hour?” She has kept up with new food trends (she has a lot of plant-based recipes in her latest show) and technology. “You have to go with the trends, and yes, we are on Instagram.”
She regrets her parents weren’t around to see her being made a Dame at Windsor Castle in 2021. “I am a great believer in genes. And my father was a remarkable man. My parents set an amazing example to me. When I found that I was going to be made a Dame, I couldn’t ring and tell them, but they are up there and looking down on me, and I know they’re quite pleased,” she says, smiling. “Your own children don’t notice, of course.”
Mary enjoys a positive attitude, which helped following the death of her son William, who was killed aged 19 in a car crash in 1989. It was after this tragedy that she started teaching Aga courses at her home, although I recall there was no indication that she had been bereaved. She was just as charming and chirpy as she is today. Perhaps the whole routine helped keep up her morale.
“I think of William every day. Of course I do. And if he were to walk through that door over there, I would say, ‘Where the hell have you been?’ I’m still very proud of him. I think of the joy he gave us. He was a lovely child, but you have to step back and think – I had wonderful parents, I’ve got two more children, Annabel and Tom, and my grandchildren. I mean, it would be devastating if you only had one child. I am very fortunate. And I have a husband who is 93.”
She says the recipe for her marital success is that she steps out of the house when she can see an argument brewing. “Paul always says that the secret to our long marriage is his saying, ‘Yes, dear’ to everything, and then going his own way. But we don’t argue. If any disagreements come up, I open the back door and just go out and maybe pick some flowers or get some apples. It’s amazing if you can walk away.
“Of course, if I was living in a top-floor flat, that would be difficult. But we respect each other. And I’m very lucky. He has mellowed in his old age and he’s become very appreciative of me. So I look after him, and it’s a great pleasure. That’s what I promised to do. For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer. And we are very happy in our dotage.”
Not that I can see Mary having an argument about much, with anyone. She is totally charming and enjoys a good relationship with all her guests in the new series, particularly Jamie Oliver: “I didn’t get any school qualifications, and neither did he,” she says.
Which of her guests learnt the most from cooking with her? “Oh, Alan Titchmarsh,” she says immediately. “We made spaghetti with salmon, and he hadn’t a clue. But he was so keen. To me, the huge reward was that 10 days after we recorded the show, he sent me an email with a picture of a table, all laid with the pasta dish and a glass of red wine. He said, ‘I did exactly what you said, and I’m very proud of this.’”

Holding a bouquet of flowers, his ring was clearly visible on his finger, which further fueled rumors that the couple had indeed gotten engaged. Despite the lack of an official announcement from either Rashmika or Vijay, sources close to the couple have confirmed the engagement to media outlets. The intimate ceremony reportedly took place at Vijay’s Hyderabad residence, with only close family members in attendance.
