Robert Carlyle Talks Sherlock’s Reunion With Watson and Pittsburgh Mystery

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Watson Season 2 Episode 2 “Back from the Dead.”]

“My dear Watson…” Sherlock Holmes (Robert Carlyle) is back in Dr. John Watson’s (Morris Chestnut) life, and he certainly owes his best friend an explanation. After all, the doctor thought he was dead all this time!

It takes a while, but Sherlock does finally share how he survived his fall at Reichenbach Falls with Moriarty (Randall Park): He didn’t go over until after Watson went in to save him. Rather, he’d set up his enemies, Moriarty and Stapleton, and they both went in. (Should we believe him?) And it’s not just his friend who has brought him to Pittsburgh. As he shares with Watson in the final scene of the episode, a mystery there has caught his attention, and it’s all part of a bigger project. There’s only one crime that matters: who stole the world. “The whole Jenga tower could use a bit of a rattle,” Sherlock says, and he’s planning “a third act surprise.” With that, he leaves — for now.

Below, Robert Carlyle breaks down this episode, teases what’s going on with Sherlock, talks working with Morris Chestnut, and more.

There is of course, the question of whether Sherlock is truly alive or a hallucination of Watson’s. What can you say about that and why we should be considering both, or should we?

Robert Carlyle: Well, as far as I’m concerned, he’s very much alive. The whole idea of that is kind of like a Sherlock Watson type of thing; it’s a mystery in itself for the viewers to try and figure that out.

Sergei Bachlakov/CBS

Talk about working with Morris on that dynamic between Sherlock and Watson, especially in this episode where it’s really such a two-hander between the two of you, with almost all of their scenes in Watson’s apartment.

Yeah, absolutely. It’s an absolute pleasure working with Morris. What an absolutely lovely guy he is. And he made me feel so welcome coming into the show. And I think that we, hopefully, create a nice, interesting dynamic. There’s a nice chemistry between the two of us. It’s always hard to pick that up right away because of course, these guys have known each other for many, many, many years, so you’re sort of throwing this at the audience. For them, it’s the first time seeing those two together. But we have to try and show, no, these guys are friends who’ve known each other for a long, long time. The writing certainly helped that. And I think that the audience very quickly will understand that there’s a deep and very loving relationship between these two guys.

And you can really feel that in that apartment scenes. There’s a little bit of that dance that we know and love, but also, you can definitely feel that deep emotion of seeing someone who’s meant a lot to you again for the first time in a while.

Yeah, I think so. He’s suddenly back and Watson wants to know why he’s done this, why he’s vanished for the past year. Sherlock kind of leads him on, as you say, a dance through this whole thing before he eventually tells him the truth of what had happened that day at Reichenbach Falls. They’ve missed each other. They’ve really, really missed each other. And I think that you see that once they start talking about Watson’s case, that they work with each other really, really well, very, very quickly. That’s what I was trying to do anyway, was to show how much they enjoyed that and how much they missed that.

There is precedent in the canon of Sherlock Holmes for him faking his death. Sherlock does eventually tell Watson how he survived the Falls, claiming that he only went in after Watson did to save him. But he’s also been deceiving Watson all this time into thinking he was dead. Why should Watson believe him now about all of this? How truthful is he being his best friend?

That’s a really good question. Why should he believe him? I don’t know whether he does. I think by the end of that second episode, I don’t think that’s resolved in any way. I still think that that Watson is very, very wary of what is happening, of what this guy actually is. [Laughs] You’re not quite sure what’s going on there. So I don’t know whether he should believe him, I think, to answer your question, and I think the audience also would be quite right to think, “I’m not too sure. Is this a fake? What’s going on?”

Sergei Bachlakov/CBS

Sherlock is in Pittsburgh because he has plans. How much is it also that Sherlock missed his friend, as he says he did dearly? Would he have revealed himself to Watson even without something else drawing him to Pittsburgh?

Yeah, I mean, this is all just mulling in my mind, my own kind of thoughts, but I think so, yes. I think definitely he would’ve eventually got in touch and told him that he was back. There are things that he’s there for. I don’t know whether it comes up, I think it does towards the end of the episode when he talks about the Pittsburgh mystery, there’s this mural — back in the time of the Great Depression in America in the late ’20s, ’30s, there was a series of public murals that were commissioned by the government in an attempt, an effort to keep people working. So, Sherlock believes there’s one of these murals by this artist called Charles Austin, who was famous back in the day for doing these things. And he thinks there’s one of these present in Pittsburgh that’s been lost that’s been painted over.

He does say that there is a mystery in Pittsburgh that’s caught his attention, and it’s all part of a bigger project, that the only crime that matters is who stole the world. The whole Jenga tower, he says, could use a little bit of rattle. And he’s planning a third act surprise. What can you tease about what he’s up to?

Something I can genuinely tell you: I have no idea. I really don’t know what’s going on there. I think it is the way that these TV shows are put together, that there’s a general overall kind of idea. But I think that the writers in the writers’ room start to write this stuff as they go, seeing what the actors bring to it and what they can actually stretch out of this. So, I have absolutely nothing on paper to tell me what the third act surprise is, but we can be sure that there is one for sure.

Sherlock tells Watson goodbye for now. How often are we going to be seeing him around?

I can tell you that he appears in [Episode] 5. And then I think it’s 8, certainly 10, which is the mid-season finale, which is the one that we’re shooting at shooting at the moment. This is where things begin to really ramp up, and there’s a problem with Sherlock. I can tell you that there’s a problem with Sherlock, and Watson wants to try and help his friend through this.

In last season’s finale, Watson, in dealing with Moriarty, ultimately caused their nemesis’ death. How much does Sherlock know what Watson did, and how would he feel about it if he had all the facts?

That is a good question. I don’t actually know how much he knows. I think Sherlock believes that Moriarty is gone. But you never know.

In the world of Sherlock Holmes, as we’ve seen in every iteration, you never know.

You don’t know. He could be back. Is it possible for Sherlock to have a life without Moriarty? I mean, he talks about that. I can’t remember [which] episode, but he talks about, the life that he’s led has been difficult, and with a nemesis lurking in every alleyway and stuff like this. And Episode 10, it is really, really beautifully written that he talks to Watson and tells him how it’s not been easy. What he says is, “Look, I’m Sherlock Holmes. I can solve any crime. I’m not afraid of anything. It’s not been easy.” This thing has taken its toll on him. Maybe this whole life of catching criminals and solving crimes and stuff has taken a toll and maybe ultimately all of this, what has all this been for? And it happens. I mean, I understand that in my age as well because I’m in my 60s now; when you start to get older, you think, what are you leaving behind? And with Sherlock, it’s like, “Well, what is it I’ve actually achieved?” There’s a beautiful, beautiful bit in Episode 10. And he says, “One thing’s for sure. At the exact literal moment of my death, someone somewhere will murder somebody else. So what’s it really all for?” That’s where his mind is. He’s not what he was. He’s older and he’s thinking about his legacy and whether that’s worth anything. Maybe this Pittsburgh mural is actually worth more than all these crimes that he solved in the past.

And mortality is obviously a looming presence, a constant weight on your shoulders, really, no matter how old you are.

Exactly, exactly. That’s what Craig [Sweeny] and the writers are trying to do with Sherlock.

What does Sherlock think of Watson’s life as it is now?

I think he’s saddened that he’s not with Mary Morstan [Rochelle Aytes]. I think he’s saddened by that because he thought those two would’ve been together by now. The fact that there’s someone else, I don’t think he’s very happy about that.

Yes. He seems skeptical of Laila (Tika Sumpter). Why is that? Is he just a big Watson and Mary stan at this point?

[Laughs] That’s exactly what he is.

How intrigued do you think Sherlock is by someone like Ingrid (Eve Harlow)?

Well, who knows. I mean, at this point he’s only going by what he hears and what Watson’s telling him. I think it’s very funny when he calls her your nemesis. I love that. So, I don’t think he trusts her at all.

Watson, Mondays, 10/9c, CBS

Watch Waxahatchee join Rilo Kiley for ‘With Arms Outstretched’ at final reunion tour show

by jummy84 October 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Rilo Kiley brought out Waxahatchee to round out their reunion tour with a version of ‘With Arms Outstretched’ – check it out below.

Jenny Lewis and co. have been playing the ‘Sometimes When You’re On, You’re Really Fucking On Tour’ in the US this year, their first extended run of shows since 2008, although they did play a one-off gig for a livestream benefit in 2021.

The final date in the run came on Saturday night (October 18) at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, and Waxahatchee – aka Katie Crutchfield – served as the opening act, having been a self-confessed superfan of the group.

Together, they sang ‘With Arms Outstretched’, a fan favourite track from Rilo Kiley’s second album ‘The Execution Of All Things’, released in 2002. Watch footage of the collaboration here:

Rilo Kiley played:

‘The Execution Of All Things’
‘Spectacular Views’
‘Paint’s Peeling’
‘The Moneymaker’
‘Dreamworld’
‘I Never’
‘Glendora’
‘Close Call’
‘It’s A Hit’
‘Does He Love You?’
‘Ripchord’
‘The Good That Won’t Come Out’
‘Silver Lining’
‘With Arms Outstretched’ (with Waxahatchee)
‘A Better Son/Daughter’
‘Portions For Foxes’
‘Let Me Back In’
‘Breakin’ Up’
‘Pictures Of Success’

Jenny Lewis told NME in 2019 that she was open to getting the band back together, and then in 2023, the singer spoke to NME again about the prospect of a Rilo Kiley reunion, dismissing immediate hopes by saying: “I’ve got a lot on my plate […] We’re not talking about it, but it’s not off the table.”

Although live shows have been few and far between since 2011, Rilo Kiley did reissue their 1999 self-titled debut album in 2020 and made it available on streaming services for the first time.

As for Waxahatchee, her sixth studio album ‘Tigers Blood’ was released last year, which NME awarded the full five stars. “These songs offer a more adult and grounded perspective than ones like ‘Lone Star Lake’ and ‘Evil Spawn’; they’re about the person who feels like home rather than the one who gets your blood pumping,” the review read. “It’s a nice counterweight that feels emblematic of ‘Tigers Blood’ — it’s a burning fire, and it’s a warm summer evening at once.”

It was later named as one of NME’s 50 best albums of 2024.

Prime Video has officially released Red, White & Royal Wedding, the long-awaited sequel to its worldwide LGBTQ+ rom-com success Red, White & Royal Blue. After the original received a tidal wave of fan affection, the follow-up will further explore the touching romance of Prince Henry of Britain and Alex Claremont-Diaz, the United States’ First Son.

Actors Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine will reprise their fan-favourite roles as Alex and Henry, while director Jamie Babbit — known for But I’m a Cheerleader — steps in to helm the project. Matthew López, who directed the original film, returns as co-writer and producer, alongside bestselling author Casey McQuiston and screenwriter Gemma Burgess.

The original movie was a cultural hit, admired for its humor, emotional resonance, and affirming queer portrayals. Viral moments, fan illustrations, and TikTok edits propelled Red, White & Royal Blue into one of the most-viewed Amazon Prime romantic comedies, particularly in India.

Red, White & Royal Wedding follows the next chapter of Alex and Henry’s journey to forever as they dive into royal customs, self-discovery, and the scrutiny of life in the public eye.

Director Jamie Babbit stated, “After But I’m a Cheerleader, I’m delighted to return to queer love stories. We all need this type of optimism and gay joy.” López further stated, “It’s been a pleasure to co-write the next chapter. Jamie brings the perfect mix of wit and heart.

Author Casey McQuiston revealed, “Jamie has the sensitivity to care about Alex and Henry’s tale. I am waiting for the fans to see what’s next.”

As a celebration of love without borders set to be, the sequel reiterates that romance, even between politics and royalty, is always worth fighting for.

Diane Morgan’s new BBC sitcom lines up Motherland reunion

With her only son, Michael, about to move out—again—to repair his marriage, he brings his mother a gift to help her live independently: a second-hand AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot, called Linda, played by Morgan.

Designed to keep the ageing population company and take the pressure off the NHS, it’s Sue’s worst nightmare—an overly attentive, socially inept pain in the backside.

But Sue quickly discovers she can use her new companion to her advantage, settling scores and ticking off tasks her son never quite gets round to. What emerges is a charming buddy comedy between an older woman and her robot, who may be technically brilliant but socially clueless.

“In a world where AI is looming larger and ever-present, Ann Droid asks the question: what is replaceable and what is not?” reads the logline.

“As funny as it is poignant, Ann Droid tells the story of an unlikely friendship between Sue and Linda, a social humanoid robot created to keep elderly people company and monitor their health.”

Read more:

And if that wasn’t enough to get you on board, Morgan’s Motherland co-star Paul Ready plays Michael, while the iconic Sue Johnston (True Love, The Royle Family) leads the cast as Sue.

“I don’t know much, but I do know that if you get a chance to work with Diane Morgan, you take it. Immediately!” said Ready. “Can’t wait to be reunited and bring Michael to life in her brilliant comic series.”

Johnston echoed his excitement: “I’m thrilled to be back in the heart of BBC comedy. Diane and Sarah have created a show that will resonate with lots of different audiences, for different reasons, and I cannot wait to get started.”

Rush Announces Reunion Tour To Celebrate Life Of Drummer Neil Peart

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, co-founders of the classic rock band Rush, have announced the band’s first tour in 11 years. The 2026 “Fifty Something” tour will, in the words of the band, celebrate Rush’s “music, legacy and the life of late drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.”

The tour, with German musician Anika Nilles taking drum duties, launches Sunday June 7 at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, the first of two nights there.

See below for full tour itinerary.

In a lengthy statement (read it in full below), Lee said, “It’s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of RUSH alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil. A lifetime’s worth of songs that we had put our cumulative hearts and souls into writing, recording and playing together onstage. And so, after all that has gone down since that last show, Alex and I have done some serious soul searching and come to the decision that we fucking miss it, and that it’s time for a celebration of 50-something years of RUSH music. So in 2026, my BFF Lerxst (aka Alex Lifeson) and I are going to hit the road once again to pay tribute to our past and to Neil by performing a vast selection of RUSH songs in a handful of cities. No small task, because as we all know Neil was irreplaceable.”

Peart died in January 2020 of glioblastoma.

The 2026 tour is being undertaken with the full support of Peart’s widow Carrie Nuttall-Peart and daughter Olivia Peart, who said in a statement, “We are thrilled to support the Fifty Something tour, celebrating a band whose music has resonated and inspired fans for generations, and to honor Neil’s extraordinary legacy as both a drummer and lyricist.”

After the two dates in Los Angeles, the Fifty Something tour will then go to Mexico City for one show, followed by two-night stands in Fort Worth, Chicago, New York and Toronto. The tour ends on September 17 with a single concert in Cleveland.

The band also announced today a 50-track super deluxe anthology, RUSH 50, available in five distinct configurations, including the (1) Super Deluxe Edition, (2) RUSH Store Exclusive Super Deluxe Edition, (3) 7-LP Deluxe Edition, (4) 4-CD Deluxe Edition, and (5) Digital Edition. The career-spanning anthology includes the first-ever reissue of their 1973 debut single and concludes with a live recording the final song Lee, Lifeson, and Peart played together during the 2015 R40 Tour closer at The Forum.

Among the band’s many hits are “Tom Sawyer,” “Fly By Night” and “New World Man.”

Here is Lee’s full statement:

“It’s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of RUSH alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil. No small task, because as we all know Neil was irreplaceable.

“Yet life is full of surprises, and we have been introduced to another remarkable person; an incredible drummer and musician who is adding another chapter to our story while continuing her own fascinating musical journey. Her name is Anika Nilles, and we could not be more excited to introduce her to our loyal and dedicated RUSH fanbase, whom, we know, will give her every chance to live up to that near impossible role. Before we hit the stage, we also hope to add another musician or two to expand our sound a wee bit and free up Alex and I, in order to show off some of our new fancy dance steps.

Lerxst, Anika and myself, along with many of our longstanding crew members have been hard at work rehearsing and designing the kind of RUSH show you’ve grown accustomed to expect from us. We dearly hope you will come along and help us celebrate our history together.”

And here is the Carrie Nuttall-Peart and Olivia Peart statement:

“We are thrilled to support the Fifty Something tour, celebrating a band whose music has resonated and inspired fans for generations, and to honor Neil’s extraordinary legacy as both a drummer and lyricist.

“Neil’s musicianship was singular. Compositions of intricacy and power that expanded what rhythm itself could express. As both drummer and lyricist, he was irreplaceable. Inimitable in his artistry, and unmatched in the depth and imagination he brought to the lyrics that inspired and moved so many, he profoundly shaped how fans connected with him and the band, giving voice and meaning to their own lives.

“As the band enters this new chapter, it promises to be truly unforgettable. We are excited to see how their new vision unfolds, and to hear this legendary music played live once again.”

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor were recently caught at the Mumbai airport, and a short but endearing encounter between the two has gone viral on the internet. In a now-famous video, the ex-beau couple are seen leaving the airport, Deepika slightly ahead. Ranbir shouts after her, utters, “Deepika, bye, I’ll see you around,” and hugs her warmly before parting ways.

This shocking twist has left viewers nostalgia-stricken about their legendary on-screen chemistry. Social media was abuzz with tweets by fans wishing for the on-screen reunion of the duo. One of them posted, “Bunny and Naina… Don and Mona darling,” while another wrote, “Ek hi dil hai, kitni baar jitoge!” Others called them the “best on- and off-screen jodi ever in Indian cinema” and asked for a new movie together, posting, “Do a movie together, plz… RK DEEPU!”

Deepika and Ranbir have appeared together in three iconic films — Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), and Tamasha (2015). Their chemistry as characters such as Bunny-Naina and Ved-Tara made them one of Bollywood’s most loved on-screen couples.

In the meantime, Deepika Padukone has made news recently due to her exits from big projects. It was recently announced that she will not be featured in the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD. Rumor has it that the move was made due to unsatisfied demands, which included a salary increase, fewer working hours, and special provisions for her crew.

Likewise, her walkout from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit was unconventional. Reasons given included her asking for sharing of profits, a reduced daily work schedule, and an exorbitant hike in salary.

All this notwithstanding, there’s still hope for the Deepika-Ranbir on-screen reunion among fans.
