Teyana Taylor & Leonardo DiCaprio’s Film ‘One Battle After Another’ Faces Massive $100 Million Box Office Loss Despite Critical Praise

Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor’s new film “One Battle After Another” is being hailed by viewers but it’s struggling to make its money back.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the Warner Bros. drama reportedly cost around $130 million to produce and another $70 million to promote. So far, it’s earned about $140 million worldwide, falling short of what’s needed to turn a profit.

“These prestige-type movies have failed to create a sense of FOMO among audiences,” says Fandango box office analyst Shawn Robbins in a statement to Variety. Warner Bros. pushed back on reports of a $100 million loss, saying, “Films across the studio’s slate, including ‘One Battle After Another,’ have achieved financial reward in 2025 with more than $4 billion earned to date.”

Despite the numbers, “One Battle After Another” is generating major Oscar buzz for its emotional storytelling and standout performances by DiCaprio and Taylor.

Anubhav Sinha Criticizes Bollywood's Obsession with "Fake" Box Office Numbers

Anubhav Sinha Criticizes Bollywood’s Obsession with “Fake” Box Office Numbers

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has voiced strong criticism regarding the entertainment industry’s excessive focus on the business and box office performance of films, arguing that this obsession distracts from the actual purpose of cinema: the audience experience.

Sinha claims that the financial metrics being discussed are often unreliable and misleading. “The numbers are about what budget films are made on and the business they do. Dono ankdey jhoote hain! (Both figures are fake!),” the director stated emphatically.

He explained that while people in the industry generally avoid discussing this convoluted truth, “a lot of it isn’t true.”

Sinha believes that the audience should be entirely removed from financial discussions, which he feels are irrelevant to their role as consumers.

“Honestly, that is not the audience’s business; it should be whether they liked the movie or not,” he asserted. He drew a compelling analogy to consumer goods: “Do we ask a biscuit company about their ROI (return on investment) before consuming it?”

The director suggested that the public, and by extension the media, enjoys talking about failure too much. “We are discussing too much, and people talk and enjoy discussing failures. As humans, we like celebrating ruins and talking about them.” He stressed that while a film may be broadly labelled “bad,” the individual who saw it may have genuinely enjoyed it.

Facing Industry Challenges and Finding the Audience Gap

Sinha, who recently wrapped up a courtroom drama starring Taapsee Pannu, admitted that the film industry presents significant, even devastating, challenges for creators.

He confessed to facing a major professional hurdle after his 2011 film Ra.One underperformed commercially. “Logon ke ghar bik jaate hain (People lose their homes). Today, people call Ra.One a cult film, but it did not do well. After that I had a very tough three or four years with no work,” the 60-year-old filmmaker revealed.

Feeling the need to “reinvent and update” himself, Anubhav Sinha embarked on a journey he called “Chal Picture Chalein,” travelling across cities including Lucknow, Delhi, and Jaipur.

His travels highlighted a significant disconnect between filmmakers and their audience. He concluded that the audience is not boycotting theatres altogether, but they are highly selective. “The audience is willing to go to theatres, but they’re particular about what they choose to watch. If they feel a film is worth spending money and time on, they do watch it,” he observed.

Anubhav Sinha attributes this gap to the geographical reality of many in the film industry. “Most makers are immigrants in Mumbai, uprooted from our hometowns,” he shared. He argues that by living in this “bubble,” filmmakers are failing to witness and understand the changing tastes and evolving expectations of audiences in other parts of the country. His travels were an attempt to bridge this critical gap and reconnect with the real pulse of the nation’s movie-goers.

Jennifer Lopez Confirms Midi Pencil Skirts Are the Star of Fall’s Best Office Looks

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Elegance has always been part of Jennifer Lopez’s aesthetic, but she seems particularly determined to establish herself as our main source of inspiration for work-related dressing.

Over the past few weeks, the “On the Floor” singer has been seen in various styles of blazers, which she has paired with vests, wide-leg pants, as well as pencil skirts. Her penchant for this style only denotes what the Saint Laurent, Gucci, and Ferragamo runways predicted: executive formality will be the key to looking elegant this fall.

The return of ‘80s power dressing that began last year has had time to evolve, and without a doubt, the 56-year-old actor shos us the most modern and sensual versions of the ensemble. According to her lessons, sunglasses and pumps are a must to complete the look, which she’s continued to elevate during her Kiss of the Spider Woman press tour.

Between wide-legged tailored pants by Ralph Lauren and ensembles by Willy Chaverría, Dior, and Harithan, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but the title definitely goes to the Tom Browne look she wore that afternoon.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Box Office

In its first week alone, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has earned an impressive US$1.75 million (Rs 15.6 crore) abroad, highlighting Dhawan’s expanding global popularity. Notably, as per sources close to the production, its steady performance in North America saw the second Friday’s collections match those of the first, indicating strong word-of-mouth and repeat viewings.

The film has also outperformed several recent major releases across the UK, UAE, and Australia, including Param Sundari, Yoddha, Sky Force, Chandu Champion, Baaghi 4, and Metro In Dino. This robust overseas success not only marks a significant milestone in Dhawan’s career but also cements his status as one of Bollywood’s most bankable international stars.

Critics and fans alike have praised Dhawan for his impeccable comedic timing, expressive acting, and signature dance moves. His vibrant energy brings Sunny Sanskari to life, making the character both relatable and charming.

Adding to the film’s appeal are its hit songs, Panwadi, Bijuria and Ishq Manzoor which have become global sensations. Rs 40 Crore And Counting: Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’s Box Office Journey Continues | Glamsham.com

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s latest romantic drama, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, may have opened to favourable reviews and decent initial buzz, but the film’s box office journey tells a different story. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions banner, the film also features Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra in key roles. It hit theatres on October 2, aligning with a major festive week, which initially seemed promising for its commercial prospects.

The film had a respectable opening day, earning around ₹9.25 crore, and wrapped up its first weekend with a total of approximately ₹30 crore. However, the momentum began to fade rapidly during the weekdays. According to data from sacnilk.com, the film collected just ₹2 crore on Thursday, marking its lowest single-day earnings since release. As of now, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has amassed around ₹40.75 crore in eight days.

Trade analysts attribute the film’s lukewarm performance to stiff competition from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, which has emerged as a nationwide blockbuster. The Kannada-language epic has already crossed the ₹100 crore mark, dominating screens and audiences across multiple states. Its mass appeal and strong word-of-mouth have left little breathing room for other releases, including this glossy romantic comedy.

Despite its charming leads, vibrant music, and high production values typical of a Dharma outing, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari appears to be losing its grip on the box office. Industry experts now estimate the film’s lifetime earnings could wrap up between ₹50–60 crore — a figure considered underwhelming for a project of this scale and backing.

The film follows Sunny (Varun Dhawan) and Tulsi (Janhvi Kapoor), two individuals nursing broken hearts after being dumped by their partners Ananya (Sanya Malhotra) and Vikram (Rohit Saraf). When they cross paths, they decide to fake a relationship to incite jealousy in their exes, only to find themselves caught in a whirlwind of unexpected emotions.

While the film may not have struck gold commercially, its cast has promising projects ahead. Varun Dhawan is set to star in Border 2 alongside Sunny Deol, and Janhvi Kapoor is busy with her South Indian venture Peddi, co-starring Ram Charan. Whether Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari gains momentum through streaming platforms remains to be seen.

Box Office ‘Self-Booking’ Is Defaming Industry: Karan Johar Slams Producers, Star Entourages

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Veteran filmmaker Karan Johar, who recently partnered with Adar Poonawalla by selling a 50% stake in Dharma Productions, has never been one to shy away from candid discussions about the inner workings of the film industry. In a recent conversation on the show Game Changers, Johar spoke frankly about two major, interconnected issues plaguing Bollywood’s economics and ethics: the rising practice of manipulating box office figures through “corporate bookings” and the inflating costs associated with large star entourages.

The Problem of ‘Self-Booking’

The term “corporate bookings,” referring to producers allegedly buying large blocks of tickets for their own films to inflate opening weekend numbers, has become a troubling staple in recent industry discourse. Johar didn’t mince words when addressing this practice, preferring to call it “self-booking.”

While he adopts a mock-indifferent tone toward the individuals engaging in it, his underlying concern for the industry’s integrity is palpable. “Everybody does what they have to. If I decide to give myself ₹1 crore, and then I celebrate, have a party at night that I have earned ₹1 crore. Am I a fool, or am I an intelligent man? I leave that for you to decide,” he commented. He added that if a producer is happy spending their own money to achieve a temporary high or a social media post, they should proceed. “You are spending on yourself, so why should anyone judge you for spending your own money?”

However, Johar stressed that this tactic fundamentally harms the entire ecosystem. He believes the industry itself is “defaming itself” by peddling these fabricated figures. The key distinction, he argued, is that the audience cares only about the quality of the film, not whether the box office success is “corporate or desperate.”

He acknowledged that “self-booking” can sometimes offer a much-needed “kickstart energy” to a movie. He even suggested that what is now unethical manipulation might someday evolve into an accepted promotional tactic. Yet, he concluded with a timeless truth: “If the film has to work it will work. That is the bottom line, if it’s good, it will anyway work.”

Johar also questioned the logical sustainability of these costly manoeuvres. “How much will you do, after all? I can’t do it for every day. Can do it say for weekend, then for the first Monday… But at some point I’ll run out. I have to stop. If the film doesn’t have legs, it’s going to fail anyway.”

The Ethical Problem of Star Entourages

Shifting focus, Karan Johar tackled another growing financial drain: the exponential costs associated with large star entourages. While he admitted that these expenses are a relatively small part of a colossal film budget, he views the issue as an ethical problem rather than a financial one.

He pointed to exorbitant charges for hair and makeup artists, joking that he’d prefer his own children, Roohi and Yash, take up the profession because “they are making more money than a lot of other people.”

Johar outlined his stance on what producers should and shouldn’t cover. “I have an ethical problem with entourages, not a financial one. We set a fixed budget for such needs,” he explained. He asserted that actors should pay for anything beyond that fixed amount, such as personal trainers or specific dietary requirements, unless it is a necessary part of the film’s creative demand, like a sports drama requiring a specific physique. For a “regular hero,” Johar stated, their job is to look good and fit, and they should personally manage the associated costs of healthy living.

The Call for Producer Unity and Actor Grace

When questioned about how producers are attempting to curb these rising costs, Johar admitted that a lack of unity is their greatest challenge. “The producers are not united. We often discuss these matters, but no one follows through.”

However, he shared a sign of change, noting that the industry is now pushing back by capping budgets for necessities like hair and makeup. “We tell them upfront this is all we can offer. If you want anything extra, please handle it yourself.” He showed respect for the many actors who are now paying for their own additional hair and makeup.

His final appeal was to the actors, urging them to show some restraint and gratitude. “My problem is with actors who are getting mammoth payments and still expect the producers to pay for their basic needs. Show some grace.” He expressed bewilderment that these “small issues” often become points of contention, especially questioning the necessity for some actors to travel with a massive entourage of six to eight people.

Johar’s dual concerns highlight the precarious balance of Bollywood economics, a challenge he is currently navigating. While a recent production of his, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, struggled at the box office, another Dharma production, the critically acclaimed Homebound directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, has earned widespread praise and was selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars this year. His comments serve as a clear call to action for the industry to prioritize ethical filmmaking and long-term credibility over short-term vanity metrics.

₹400 crore; beats Kantara, Vikram”>

Updated on: Oct 08, 2025 09:23 am IST

Kantara Chapter 1 worldwide box office collection day 6: The Rishab Shetty film is now the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time.

Kantara Chapter 1 worldwide box office collection: Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 continues to steamroll past milestones and landmarks each day it spends in the theatres. The Kannada period action film has now crossed ₹400 crore worldwide, eclipsing the lifetime collection of the first Kantara film in the process.

Kantara Chapter 1 worldwide box office collection day 6: Rishab Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth star in this blockbuster.

Kantara Chapter 1 box office update

Kantara Chapter 1 had a very strong opening weekend, particularly in India. It has since carried that momentum on to the weekdays, showing just a small drop on Monday, and then managing to climb back on Tuesday. So far, the film has earned ₹290.25 crore net ( ₹348 crore gross) in India in its six-day run at the box office.

Overseas, Kantara Chapter 1 has not set the cash registers ringing quite at the same level as the Indian market, but it has done well. In its first six days, the film has collected over $7 million in international territories. This takes its worldwide collection to ₹414 crore with a couple of days still remaining in its first week at the ticket window.

Kantara Chapter 1 becomes second-highest-grossing Kannada film

On Sunday, Kantara Chapter 1 had gone past the lifetime collection of KGF Chapter 1. On Tuesday, it surpassed the first Kantara as well. The 2022 sleeper hit had earned ₹408 crore worldwide, which Kantara Chapter 1 has now surpassed. It is now the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, behind only KGF Chapter 1 ( ₹1250 crore). On Tuesday, Kantara Chapter 1 also beat the lifetime haul of other recent hits like Kamal Haasan’s Vikram ( ₹413 crore) and the Bollywood horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 ( ₹411 crore). It now has a chance to be the first Indian film to breach ₹1000 crore this year.

All about Kantara Chapter 1

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 is a prequel to the 2022 sleeper hit Kantara. Set a thousand years before the events of the first film, it shows the tussle between the residents of Kantara and a neighbouring kingdom that wants to annex their lands and resources. Apart from Rishab in the lead, the period action drama also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in the lead roles. Kantara Chapter 1 has received glowing reviews from critics and fans alike.
