The Power of Events launches into North East with new Leeds region for Schools Engagement Programme

by jummy84 December 11, 2025
written by jummy84

The Power of Events, the not for profit organisation launched in 2023 to provide better understanding, respect and value for the UK Events Industry, is thrilled to announce the expansion of its UK Schools Engagement Programme into the North East with the new Leeds region.

This unique initiative is connecting thousands of young people with the dynamic world of events, providing insights, inspiration and career pathways into the industry.

In its first academic year 24-25, it engaged 106,000+ young people through 350 school visits, across East of England, Birmingham, South Coast and Hertfordshire regions – a Year 1 Report is now published: www.thepowerofevents.org/schools-engagement-programme/

With ambassador registration now live on the Schools Engagement Programme portal www.schools.thepowerofevents.org industry professionals across the UK are invited to sign up and support the next generation of talent by volunteering as little as an hour to the initiative. The first wave of Leeds school engagements will begin in the Spring of 2026 across the region, with the aim of reaching 10,000+ young people in the first year.

This programme expansion for 2026 is made possible with sponsorship from leading event industry organisations across the Leeds region:

  • Leeds Hotels and Venues Association (LHVA), PLASA, Reset Connect, Royal Armouries, Sparq Live, Sterling Event Group, TAIT, The Meetings Show, XSEM

Sam Woodward at TAIT said, “We are delighted to support Power of Events, especially this new initiative on the doorstep of our UK home in Yorkshire – proud to help encourage the next generation of talent to explore the many facets of our industry”

Dan Bardgett, Managing Director at XSEM said, “The events industry reaches into every corner of the economy – from healthcare and technology to sport, culture and beyond. Many of our team began their journey studying event management at university, so we know first-hand how the right encouragement can unlock incredible careers. Supporting The Power of Events programme is a chance to show young people the scale of opportunities waiting for them, and to help inspire the next generation of talent who will shape the future of this industry.”

Rick Stainton, CEO of The Power of Events, commented: “The launch of the Leeds Hub marks a significant progression into the North East for one of our core projects, to engage and inspire young people across the UK about the diverse opportunities within the events industry. With the incredible support of our ambassadors and sponsors, we look forward to developing a lasting impact across the region.”

The Power of Events had already announced 4 new regions coming online in the autumn of 2025 – Manchester/Liverpool/Cheshire, Edinburgh, London and most recently Bath/Bristol, with a projection of engaging over 250,000 young people across the 8 live regions by the end of 2026.

To kick off the Leeds region, The Power of Events will be inviting event industry professionals to an exclusive launch reception in the city in early 2026.

This event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the programme and how to get involved as a volunteer schools ambassador, as well as network with the programme sponsors alongside the wider organisation’s supporters and partners.

Ringo Starr is heading to North American with his All Starr Band for a string of summer 2026 shows.

The Beatles legend will be joined by his regular bandmates – Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette and Buck Johnson – for all of the 12 dates next May and June.

The tour kicks off in Temecula, California on May 28, before taking in cities including San Diego, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Denver and Phoenix, eventually wrapping things up with a date at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on June 14.

Tickets for all shows go on general sale next Friday (November 21) and you will be able to find yours here.

Starr has said: “I am happy to be touring again in the Spring. See you all in June. Peace and love.”

Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band will play:

MAY 2026
28 – Temecula, CA, Pechanga Resort Casino
29 – San Diego, CA, Humphreys Concerts By The Bay
31 – Prescott, AZ, Findlay Toyota Center

JUNE 2026
1 – Salt Lake City, UT, Eccles Theater
3 – Tucson, AZ, Linda Ronstadt Music Hall
5 – Lincoln, CA, Thunder Valley Casino
6 – Paso Robles, CA, Vina Robles Amphitheatre

Elsewhere, it has been confirmed that Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees Of Inisherin) will be playing Ringo in Sam Mendes’ upcoming quartet of Beatles biopics, each of which will focus on a different band member. The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is currently slated for an April 2028 release.

Harrison Dickinson and Paul Mescal will play Lennon and McCartney respectively, while Joseph Quinn is taking on the role of George Harrison. The respective partners have also been cast, with Mia McKenna-Bruce (How To Have Sex) set to play Ringo’s wife Maureen Starkey.

In July, it was reported that Ringo had met Mendes and asked him to change parts of the scripts of the films, offering “extensive notes”, saying the original screenplay “had nothing to do with Maureen and I”.

In September, meanwhile, Jack White joined Ringo on stage in Louisiana to play The Beatles’ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’.

He also described Roger Daltrey as a “little man” after Ringo’s son Zak Starkey was fired from The Who.

Stunning Trailer for ‘The Tale of Silyan’ Doc Film from North Macedonia

“You poor bird. From today on, we will live together.” National Geographic has unveiled the official trailer for one of the best documentaries of 2025 – a film titled The Tale of Silyan, from acclaimed Macedonian filmmaker Tamara Kotevska, best know for her doc Honeyland from 2019. She filmed a farmer for years in a town in North Macedonia following him and his friendship with one of the local white storks. The story follows Nikola, who is unable to sell his land & crops. His family abandons him to look for a future abroad. Nikola gets a job at a landfill, where he comes across an injured white stork, Sylian. Nikola saves the bird, with the two forming a bond. Through folklore, striking images and intimate observation, Kotevska crafts a story about absence and resilience, and about the delicate thread that ties human survival to the natural world. It’s a beautiful, stunning, amazing film about our connection with nature. My rave review from the Venice Film Festival is quoted in it: “a spectacularly cinematic creation it’s almost completely unbelievable that it’s actually a documentary and these are all real people and this is a real story.” A must watch new doc.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Tamara Kotevska’s doc The Tale of Silyan, direct from YouTube:

The Tale of Silyan Doc Trailer

The Tale of Silyan Doc Poster

Via AFI Fest: “Documentarian Tamara Kotevska returns with a poetic & lyrical documentary set in rural Macedonia where family farms are struggling as their traditional way of life has become unsustainable. Looking down on this are the town’s majestic storks perched in enormous nests atop telephone poles while their clattering beaks provide a constant soundtrack. Rooted in the Macedonian myth of Silyan — a boy transformed into a stork after defying his father — [drawing] a parallel to its subject, Nikola, a weathered farmer left behind when his adult son and family depart for Germany in search of a more secure future. When Nikola encounters an injured stork and tends to the fragile bird, a tender bond forms — one that reflects both his yearning for companionship and the looming uncertainty of his vanishing way of life.” 🇲🇰

The Tale of Silyan is directed by acclaimed, Oscar-nominated Macedonian filmmaker Tamara Kotevska, director of the doc films Honeyland and The Walk previously, and a few other short films as well. Produced by Tamara Kotevska, Jean Dakar, Anna Hashmi, Jordanco Petkovski. This premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival this fall (read our review). National Geographic will debut Kotevska’s The Tale of Silyan doc in select US theaters starting on November 28th, 2025 coming soon this fall. Who wants to watch this doc?

Kanye West’s daughter North West has dressed up as BABYMETAL for halloween

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Kanye West‘s and Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West and her friends have dressed up as BABYMETAL for halloween – check out clips of them in costume below.

Earlier this week, North West took to TikTok to share several looks for halloween, one of which sees her and two other friends dress up as Japanese kawaii-metal icons BABYMETAL. Over the course of several posts, West and her friends are seen posing for photos, and dancing along to BABYMETAL’s songs like ‘Chocolate’ and their Lil Uzi Vert collaboration ‘The End’.

Check out the girls in full BABYMETAL regalia below.

While comments have been turned off on North West’s shared account with Kim Kardashian, the official BABYMETAL page on TikTok has reposted all of the teenager’s videos.

North West’s tribute to BABYMETAL shouldn’t come as a surprise though, as her mother Kim Kardashian in 2021 revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that North is a “goth girl” who “listens to Black Sabbath.”

“North is like goth. She’s into Hot Topic,” Kim told Ellen. “She puts fake tattoos on her face and she listens to Black Sabbath. She’s just, like, a full goth girl.”

Back in March 2024, North West announced her debut album ‘Elementary School Dropout’, though the record has yet to be released. An official single has also not been released yet, but the teenager has previously West recorded a rap verse for ‘Vultures’ track ‘Talking’, which she performed with her father in Paris.

In May last year, she was one of several performers at Disney’s live production ‘The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl’, where she performed ‘I Just Can’t Wait to Be King’ from the 1994 Disney film.

As for BABYMETAL, the metal trio released their fourth album ‘Metal Fourth’ back in August. The record scored a three-star review from NME, with Liberty Dunworth writing: “There is no doubt that BABYMETAL are looking to make their biggest statement to date with ‘Metal Forth’, and no one can accuse them of playing it safe. The choice to join forces with so many artists was always a huge risk, and unfortunately, it sometimes ends up dampening the charm that first set them apart from the masses. But in the moments where it does come together, it’s both epic and intriguing as hell. If there is one thing to take from album four, it’s that, even 15 years into their discography, BABYMETAL are not afraid to push boundaries and are still looking to rewrite the rules of metal.”

“The majority of these locations are situated in areas with little to no light pollution, well-distant from urban areas, making them very suitable for astrophotography and tranquillity during the night,” he said. “In other words, regardless of whether you are situated in the snowy desert of Spiti or the golden sand dunes of Jaisalmer, camping here is not just a trip but a spiritual pilgrimage.”

There are some off-beat locations where light pollution is less as they are far from urban areas, making them suitable for camping under the skies, astrophotography and other night activities.

Here are the 5 destinations Ravi recommended, along with why they stand out, the best time to visit and what you can do there:

1. Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

  • Why: Referred to as ‘Little Tibet,’ Spiti has a pure, high-altitude desert with no light pollution and the best conditions for observing stars.
  • What to do: Set up a tent at Kibber or Chicham Bridge, see the Milky Way glitter and visit monasteries like Key and Tabo.
  • Best time: May to September.

2. Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

  • Why: Rishikesh is a commune along the Ganges river on where camping sites are relaxing, and riverside positions are almost untouched by nature and pollution.
  • What to do: Go river rafting, take yoga as your motto at sunrise, or have a bonfire at the riverside during the night.
  • Best time: October to March.

3. Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh

  • Why: Shrouded in the Great Himalayan National Park, the valley is usually referred to as the cradle of nature, a pristine and green one.
  • What to do: Re-experience the wildness of the Tirthan River by trekking, fishing, or simply meditating under a star-studded sky.
  • Best time: March to June and September to November.

4. Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

  • Why: The Thar Desert gives India one of the major places for stargazing, thereby rendering this destination a ‘must-visit’ for astronomers as well as sky gazers.
  • What to do: Other than desert safaris and cultural shows, you can spend a night on the sand dunes gazing at the stars.
  • Best time: October to February.

5. Chopta, Uttarakhand

  • Why: It is also called ‘Mini Switzerland of India’, because of lush meadows and sweeping views of the Himalayas.
  • What to do: Go trekking in scenic trails like the Tungnath Temple Trek.
  • Best time: March to June and September to November.

To rejuvenate, try connecting with nature instead of constantly connecting to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Sometimes the efficient way to recharge is to switch off and go outdoors.
