‘Wicked: For Good’: How to Watch Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s Musical Sequel at Home

by jummy84 November 24, 2025
written by jummy84

I’ve heard it said that Wicked: For Good has finally come into our lives a year after the release of part one. But you probably already know that, given the highly anticipated musical sequel has already surpassed the first Wicked movie with the biggest box office debut for a Broadway adaptation. It’s fair to say Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are pretty popular with the masses…Okay, I’ll stop with the Wicked pun in just a clock tick.

But what if you’ve already paid $20 (plus the cost of popcorn and a soda) during opening weekend or just don’t want to drive to the theater? Thank goodness there are plenty of ways to enjoy the Wizard of Oz origin story based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.

Here’s how to watch Wicked: For Good—and everything you can actually stream at home—right now.

How to watch Wicked: For Good right now:

Wicked: For Good is now in movie theaters. You can check your local listings and buy tickets in advance on sites like Fandango, or directly through AMC and Regal.

When will Wicked: For Good be available to stream at home?

There has been no official announcement, though it will likely follow a similar timeline as the first film, which hit theaters on November 22, 2024, was available to purchase and rent on Amazon Prime on December 31 of that year, alongside a sing-along version, movie commentary, and plenty of bonus footage in the form of deleted scenes and a 40-minute documentary.

As for streaming, Wicked stans were able to watch the movie on Peacock as early as March 21, 2025.

Meanwhile, Wicked is easier to watch than ever right now.

Amazon Prime subscribers are now able to stream Wicked for free, along with all the aforementioned bonus footage. For those without a subscription, you can rent Wicked for $3.99 or purchase the film for $9.99 on Amazon Prime or Apple TV.

On Saturday, singer Rakshita Suresh shared pictures from the star-studded night in Gujarat, where she was seen hugging Deepika and posing with the actor and Ranveer for a photo. Another picture in her post was a selfie with Aamir Khan, who kept it simple for the evening in a black kurta. Singer Pratibha Singh also shared a video showing Deepika and Ranveer vibing to AR Rahman’s song Enna Sona from Ok Jaanu.

Shreya Ghoshal had earlier shared a photo on Instagram Stories of herself, AR Rahman, Neeti Mohan, Mohit Chauhan, Udit Narayan, and flautist Ashwin, among others, preparing for their performance. She wrote, “An unforgettable evening sharing the stage with Rahman sir for a private concert for a very august gathering.”

For the event, Deepika wore a pink saree paired with a pink oversized coat. She completed her look with a bun adorned with gajra. Ranveer, meanwhile, looked stylish in a white bandhgala suit. The couple recently celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary on November 14 and even received a sweet wish from Deepika’s bodyguard, Jalaluddin Shaikh, on social media.

Sabrina Carpenter To Star In 'Alice in Wonderland'-Inspired Musical

Sabrina Carpenter To Star In ‘Alice in Wonderland’-Inspired Musical

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Sabrina Carpenter will return to her acting roots by starring and producing in an as-yet-untitled musical inspired by the Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland. The project will be released by Universal Pictures and both directed and adapted for film by Lorene Scafaria.

Carpenter has never been the top-billed star of a major movie, but spent three-plus years acting in the Disney Channel series Boy Meets World as a teenager and has also appeared in smaller roles in such films as The Hute U Give, Emergency, Tall Girl parts one and two and The Short History of the Long Road.

In September, she signed on to appear in a Muppet Show special helmed by Seth Rogen, which will come out sometime next year on Disney+. Fresh from directing several episodes of and serving as an executive producer on the HBO series I Love L.A., Scafaria will next direct the A24 comedy Jonty, starring Jesse Plemons.

Alice in Wonderland has long proved its mettle as box-office source material, most recently with an eponymous 2010 Tim Burton-directed film that grossed more than $1 billion around the world. A sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, came out in 2016.

Carpenter is currently touring in support of her latest Island album, Man’s Best Friend, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in August and was just nominated for six top honors at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

Rise Against’s Musical Dystopia – SPIN

by jummy84 November 10, 2025
written by jummy84

“And” is the first word Rise Against frontman Tim McIlrath sings on “Nod,” the opening track from Ricochet, released in August. It’s also the first word he sings on the next song, “I Want It All.” But that wasn’t a deliberate strategy, judging from McIlrath’s surprise when I point it out.

“Oh yeah, I didn’t think about that. That’s funny,” McIlrath says via Zoom outside his Chicago home, wearing a sweater on a brisk autumn morning after returning home from a tour. “That is a good device, especially considering that I think of all the Rise Against records as, like, one big ongoing story. This is just like the latest chapter of it. It’s like, ‘Oh, let’s pick back up, where did we leave off?’”

Since forming Rise Against in Chicago’s hardcore scene in 1999, McIlrath has consistently written socially conscious lyrics about the military industrial complex, climate change, animal rights, and class struggle. And as many of the problems he’s written about have continued to worsen in America and abroad, McIlrath sees Rise Against as less a political band than a “dystopian musical project,” and many of the lyrics he wrote years ago sound remarkably prescient.

“Going back to 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or Margaret Atwood, these things that become timely are almost not an accident, like this is what we were talking about. If we keep going down this road, this is what it could look like, and then sometimes we do keep going down that road,” the singer-guitarist says.

(Credit: Mynxii White)

Ricochet was written before the 2024 election, but songs like “Gold Long Gone” and “Damage is Done” resonate deeply with the parade of grim 2025 headlines. “Sometimes the things that we talk about end up sadly coming to fruition by the time an album actually finds its way to a release.” McIlrath adds, with a self-deprecating laugh, “I would love to have all these songs be irrelevant and I could go be unemployed and have the world be a perfect place.”

Rise Against has sold millions of copies of albums that have spun off more than 20 rock radio hits, making McIlrath the rare straight-edge vegetarian who’s shared stages and radio playlists with the likes of Metallica. That’s led Rise Against to turn down shows or opportunities that any other band at their level would eagerly agree to if they weren’t comfortable with a sponsor, and the band remains aligned on those values. “What I love about my band and the three guys and even our manager and our team is that we never sweated that shit,” McIlrath says. “Having that compass of punk and hardcore made it easier to navigate the murky waters of commercial music and still hold onto our identity and feel good about it. And then in the end, as a lesson to other bands, it didn’t limit us.”

McIlrath has become friends with one musician who’s very familiar with those murky waters. “I was just with Tom Morello last weekend at the Blackhawks game,” McIlrath says. “Tom was talking about Rage Against the Machine fans, and splitting them into different categories—the ones that are deeply involved in the politics of Rage, love it, and the ones that are just kind of like banging their heads along to the song—and just talking about how we need all those fans. We want all of them in the room together, they are all necessary.”

Rise Against's new album, Ricochet.
Rise Against’s new album, Ricochet.

As consistent as McIlrath’s lyrical perspective has been over the last 25 years, he saw the tenth Rise Against album as an opportunity to experiment with the band’s sound. “Most of my favorite bands never made it to 10 records. And so what business do you have making the same exact record a tenth time?” he says. “If you wanna change the meal, you gotta change the recipe.”

The majority of Rise Against’s previous albums were produced by Bill Stevenson, the legendary Descendants and Black Flag drummer, at his studio the Blasting Room. For Ricochet, however, Rise Against chose to work with someone new: Australian producer Catherine Marks, who’s won Grammys for her work with boygenius and has a resume full of indie and alternative bands like Manchester Orchestra and Wolf Alice.

“Catherine just stood out as someone that was I think so far removed from, like, a Rise Against world that it sounded exciting to us,” McIlrath says. “And she brought a female energy to the studio that’s not often there. A little peek behind the curtain of Rise Against, 90% of our personnel is female—our managers, agents, lawyers—those are the people that have always kinda run our team. And that’s been successful, so to recreate that dynamic in the studio was fun and felt pretty natural.”

McIlrath, drummer Brandon Barnes, guitarist Zach Blair, and bassist Joe Principe still play fast and loud for most of Ricochet, but the album is more densely layered and musically varied than any previous Rise Against release, with McIlrath’s voice woven into the guitars rather than shouting above them. Marks’s mentor, veteran British producer Alan Moulder, mixed Ricochet, and the subtle electronics on the title track recall his work with Nine Inch Nails and U2.

McIlrath has always toed the line between singing and melodic screaming, and over time he found it harder and harder to perform some of Rise Against’s songs. “I came out of a punk and hardcore world, which almost by definition is an untrained world,” he says. “I didn’t anticipate doing this on big stages at 46 years old. I was, like, in a Knights of Columbus Hall with my friends, playing and screaming into a RadioShack microphone on a shitty PA.”

Deciding to start meeting with the Chicago-based vocal coach Davin Youngs was a game-changer that helped McIlrath avoid issues like vocal polyps and laryngitis that seem to afflict more and more touring singers these days. “For years, I relied on my adolescence and youthful exuberance to pull it off. And then probably five, six years ago, I hit a point where I was like, ‘This is really fucking hard to do, and I don’t know how I’m gonna keep doing it,’” McIlrath admits. Now, he feels ready to sing any song in the Rise Against catalog and hit any note. “I’m actually a far more competent singer today than I’ve ever been. It honestly changed my life.”

Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa joins Wicked star in animated musical

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Ncuti Gatwa’s post-Doctor Who career has just added another major project, with the acclaimed actor taking a voice role in a major new animated film co-starring Wicked icon Cynthia Erivo.

Bad Fairies is a fantastical adventure slated for release in summer 2027, which follows a group of “delightfully subversive” fairies as they “shake up their magical world” (via Deadline).

Erivo was confirmed to star in the animated musical last month, with Gatwa being the latest addition to what looks poised to be an A-list voice cast; details about his character have not yet been disclosed.

Bad Fairies is written by comedian Deborah Frances-White (The Guilty Feminist), with Megan Nicole Dong (Netflix’s Centuarworld) and Oliver Staphylas (Wish Dragon) sharing directing duties.

Tony Award-winning songwriters Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss (best known for King Henry VIII-themed Six: The Musical) are also aboard the project, alongside composer Isabella Summers (a founding member of indie band Florence + The Machine).

For Gatwa, it marks his first major screen booking since a widely publicised exit from Doctor Who, after which the actor returned to the stage for West End runs on The Importance of Being Earnest and Born with Teeth.

Most recently, he was seen alongside Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in romcom The Roses, and coming up next he has The Queen of Fashion; a biopic about stylist Isabella Blow, starring Andrea Riseborough (Alice & Jack) in the lead role.

No doubt Bad Fairies will be hoping to draw in Wicked-sized numbers on the strength of Erivo’s musical prowess.

After numerous theatre gigs, including Sister Act and The Colour Purple, the British actor moved into film from 2018 with roles in Bad Times at the El Royale, Widows and Harriet, where she was Oscar-nominated for her portrayal of Harriet Tubman.

However, Erivo’s film career has reached new heights in the past year, following her debut as Elphaba Thropp in the blockbuster film adaptation of Wicked.

The first film made more than $750 million at the global box office, with similarly high expectations for the forthcoming sequel Wicked: For Good, which is set to conclude the Wizard of Oz-inspired story later this month.

Further casting and plot details for Bad Fairies will be announced in due course.

Bad Fairies is coming to cinemas in May 2027.

A Fun and Quirky Anime Musical

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Prior to a screening of “The Obsessed,” director Takahashi Wataru highlighted what he saw as a lost sense of selflessness and sincerity in being loving to others. That notion colors undergirds the story of his quirky new film, an anime quasi-musical about a man named Giuseppe who throws himself into every “obsession” with myopic, all-consuming abandon.

For example: The character’s interest in grasshoppers leads him to practice hopping, which then sees him become a professional triple-jumper. Each of these new hobbies, lifestyles, and professions are abandoned for the next the moment that inspiration strikes, as we see when Giuseppe leaves behind a burgeoning athletic career because he suddenly feels like being a private detective. And then a sculptor. And then a welder. And so on. Since his first passion is for singing, “The Obsessed” takes on the characteristics of a musical, as our hero expresses his mercurial feelings through song (much to the annoyance of his boss at the restaurant where he works).

"Little Amélie or the Character of Rain"

When Giuseppe turns his fleeting attention to a balloon seller named Pechka, his romantic obsession takes more of a philanthropic turn than anything else: He simply dedicates himself to making her life better in every way possible. Wataru and his team of artists depict this as an odyssey, one which takes Giuseppe to increasingly outrageous extremes as he does everything to please his crush short of actually spending time with her.

The deliberately wonky, angular line-work of Arakawa Masatsugu’s character designs contrasts sharply with the film’s painterly backgrounds, which smudge together generic European geography with specific British architecture so that the Alps seem to exist just north of a town that visibly resembles London. The film’s stylized, childlike drawings not only reflect Giuseppe’s highly mutable nature, but also his innocence and naiveté as well. He can be an incredibly frustrating character to watch, even if sometimes by design; his excitability over new things can make him seem a bit tactless, and audiences can’t help but fear that his obsession with Pechka might disappear as fast as it materialized. Intentional or not, Sano Masaya’s voice performance in the lead role is sometimes a bit too breathless and whimsical for the material at hand.

Giuseppe understands how things work (and even how to communicate with mice, as his rodent friend Cielo sometimes occasionally narrates the film and rides around in Giuseppe’s hair a la “Ratatouille”), but he’s  fundamentally disconnected from the world around him. That disconnect can be traced across the character’s interactions Pechka. Algebraic symbols appear when she speaks, but her immediate and material needs are easy puzzles for Giuseppe to solve, whether that’s caring for her hospitalized mother or digging out of debt from the (ridiculous) gangster Mr. Twist, named for how much he likes that style of dance.

Wataru’s has contributed to a dozen “Crayon Shinchan” feature films across nearly three decades at Shin-Ei Animation, and his experience with absurdist mayhem reveals itself in delightful ways throughout “The Obsessed.” His talent for such things is most clearly expressed through wild digressions, such as the inexplicably action-packed and technically impressive car chase sequence in which the aforementioned Mr Twist floors it across town in his fancy coupé. Sometimes, Wataru’s talents are displayed via small and silly little touches, like a hospital war where everyone is coughing at the same time.

In any case, the film feels as excitingly changeable as its art style, something which pushes into more emotionally fraught territory during its last half hour. Giuseppe begins to take his attempts to fix everything too far as he tries to heal the old wound of a lost love, an effort that’s both selfless and self-centered in equal measure. It’s interesting that the peril of the film’s final stretch is almost entirely self-inflicted, which makes the occasional shrug around Giuseppe’s obsessions feel a little out of step with the rest of what would otherwise be a rather emotionally mature arc. Even so, the project’s visual craft keeps its surprisingly spiritual finale afloat. The background art, which is in flux throughout “The Obsessed”, moves further into abstraction as the once vaguely natural tones of buildings and landscapes are deconstructed into white lines on purple-tinged paintings.

If only the music were able to keep pace with the dynamism of the film’s visual design. Unfortunately, the songs have a tendency to drift towards a very similar sound, which stands out in the context of a project where everything else is so imaginative. Still, there are bright spots in that score: Pechka’s final song brings things home, and leaves Wataru’s film on a high note. And, as with some of the conflicting writing around Giuseppe, it’s very easy to forgive any minor trespasses in “The Obsessed,” a film which flaunts its immense visual creativity at every turn, and finds something new to obsess over wherever Giuseppe happens to look.

Grade: B

“The Obsessed” screened at the 2025 Tokyo International Film Festival. It is currently seeking U.S. distribution.

Brandi Carlile Returns to ‘SNL’ As Musical Guest

Brandi Carlile returned to Saturday Night Live on Nov. 2 with a commanding performance of “Church & State” and “Human,” both from her newly released solo album Returning to Myself.

Explore

See latest videos, charts and news

This marks Carlile’s fourth time as musical guest on SNL and her second appearance this year, following an April duet with Elton John promoting their joint project Who Believes in Angels?. On Saturday’s show, she took center stage solo, delivering two emotionally charged performances.

Opening with “Church & State,” Carlile sang of a “failing empire” and sociopolitical unrest in a haunting arrangement co-written with producer Andrew Watt and longtime collaborators Phil and Tim Hanseroth.

She followed with “Human,” a soaring ballad that reflects on vulnerability and resilience — also the name of her upcoming Human Tour, which kicks off in February 2026.

The two songs are from Carlile’s eighth studio album, Returning to Myself, released Oct. 25. It marks her first solo LP since 2021’s In These Silent Days, which peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200, topped the Rock and Americana/Folk charts, and won multiple Grammy awards, including Best Americana Album and awards for “Broken Horses.” It also received seven Grammy nominations overall.

Since her last solo project, Carlile has remained a central figure in American roots and rock music — curating music festivals (Girls Just Wanna Weekend, Echoes Through the Canyon), forming the country supergroup The Highwomen, and collaborating with legends like Elton John, Joni Mitchell and Tanya Tucker.

Her SNL appearance follows a busy October that included performing at Mitchell’s Joni Jam at the Hollywood Bowl and announcing her return to Europe in fall 2026 after the North American leg of her tour.

Carlile also appeared in the episode’s promos, stealing the scene with a joke about noticing co-star Ashley Padilla’s haircut before Top Gun: Maverick actor Miles Teller, who hosted this week’s episode. “The second I saw you, I knew you had that new-haircut glow,” Carlile deadpanned — leading Padilla to declare her the new host.

Bonkers Trailer for ‘Chainsaws Were Singing’ Estonian Horror Musical

by Alex Billington

“The blood-soaked musical of your dreams!” Dark Star Pictures has revealed the bonkers official US trailer for a wicked crazy, one-of-a-kind, indie horror creation called Chainsaw Were Singing from Estonian filmmaker Sander Maran (who did all the VFX & SFX in addition to directing). Yes, indeed, this is a horror musical riff on Texas Chain Saw Massacre and other slashers. “Nearly 10 years in the making, this bastard child of Stephen Sondheim and Lloyd Kaufman is an utterly indescribable Estonian odyssey.” It premiered at many genre film festivals in 2024, including at Fantasia & Fantastic Fest, and it will be out on VOD in the US this November. A zany, gonzo, blood-soaked musical about lovers split up by a chainsaw-wielding killer. Over a decade in the making, this colorful murder-fest is part gory horror movie + part ridiculous musical. Along the way, they encounter some trigger-happy, pastry-loving cops, a helpful little hedgehog, a shitload of exploding cars + a cult that worships a talking fridge full of nauseating contents. Starring Karl-Joosep Ilves, Laura Niils, Janno Puusepp, Martin Ruus, Rita Rätsepp. It’s described as “Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Monty Python in [an] award-winning wacky Cannibal Musical.” Looks like a blast! Ahaha.

Here’s the official US trailer for Sander Maran’s horror film Chainsaws Were Singing, from YouTube:

Chainsaws Were Singing Poster

Via Fantastic Fest: “Maria is having one of the worst days of her life. Her parents died. Her dog, too. She was fired from her job. She was beaten by thugs in the street. But all of her troubles melt away when she locks eyes with Tom in the midst of his suicide attempt. Soon, the gobsmacked young lovers are hand-in-hand, bounding across sun-dappled meadows & expressing their undying love in song. Their courtship is cut short when a spree killer with a chainsaw and his own musical backstory takes Maria captive to feed his grotesque family of cannibals, consisting of his overbearing mother, artistically inclined little brother, and incestuous cousins Pepe and Kevin. Vowing to come to his lady’s rescue, Tom teams up with Jaan, a goodhearted, goofy passerby with nothing but time on his hands and a song in his heart. The two head deep into the woods, embarking on a madcap quest full of blood, guts, and toe-tapping show tunes.” 🎵 🩸

Chainsaws Were Singing, also known as Mootorsaed Laulsid in Estonian, is written & directed by Estonian filmmaker Sander Maran, making his feature directorial debut after many other short films. From a story by Sander Maran & Karl Ilves. Produced by Kaur Maran, Sander Maran, Karl-Joosep Ilves, Jan Andresson & Peeter Maran. This initially premiered at the 2024 Haapsalu Horror & Fantasy Film Festival in Estonia, and also at Fantasia and Fantastic Fest that year. 20 Of TV/Film’s Most Random Musical Guest Appearances

by jummy84 October 30, 2025
written by jummy84

The golden era of TV and film partially gained its descriptor because of the surprise musical guests that appeared on your favorite sitcom.

Typically, we’d see an artist at their peak become an even bigger household name when they popped on the silver screen. From Lena Horne and Tupac on A Different World to Tevin Campbell on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air and the Notorious B.I.G. on Martin, the list of musical guest appearances that live rent-free in our minds is a lengthy one.

Most notably, that nostalgia was evoked when Jill Scott appeared on Abbott Elementary back in April. She played herself and performed “Golden” to raise money for the school. Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph) was the one to secure the headliner while Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) was revealed to be Scott’s crazed fan who steals her things as memorabilia.

This feeling was also conjured up during the era of Insecure as stars like Gallant, Aminé, and Vince Staples all made cameos. So, VIBE strolls down memory lane to reflect on 20 of the best and sometimes random guest appearances by a musical artist on a TV show or movie.

  • Lil Kim in ‘Juwanna Mann’

As news of the Juwanna Mann sequel gets confirmed, let’s reminisce on Lil Kim‘s brief albeit memorable role in the 2002 original. The Brooklyn-bred pioneer played the girlfriend of Jamal Jefferies (Miguel A. Nuñez Jr.), prior to his Juwanna Mann transformation. During Jefferies’ downfall after disgracing the league, Kim let it be known that he wasn’t a mediocre lover and she was only using him for her own come-up—an unapologetic Queen.

  • Bow Wow on ‘Moesha’

    Season 6, Episode 15: “That’s My Mama”

When Ray J joined formally the Moesha cast as her cousin-turned-brother, Dorian, he went on a mission to piece together the parts of his life that were kept hidden from him including meeting his birth mother and other siblings. Bow Wow appeared during the sitcom’s final season as Dorian’s half-brother. The episode also connected Mara Brock Akil‘s cinematic universe because Maya from Girlfriends played their aunt.

  • Busta Rhymes On ‘The Steve Harvey Show’

Season 3, Episode 8: “Everybody Loves Regina”

Busta Rhymes‘ guest role on The Steve Harvey Show came during the series’ third season when Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell reprised their guest roles as boys being mentored by Steve and Cedric. The Brooklyn rapper played Thompson’s older brother, Zack, who briefly dated Regina (Wendy Raquel Robinson) to make Steve jealous while he dated a younger woman who worked at the local coffee shop.

  • Boyz II Men On ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’

Season 4, Episode 13: “‘Twas The Night Before Christening”

For Baby Nicky’s Christmas Eve Christening, the family was determined to gift the youngest Banks with the ultimate present. In true fashion, Will set out to out-gift everyone by having Boyz II Men sing at the gathering. He snuck into their recording session, and like any sitcom, even the most outlandish wishes get granted in the spirit of the holidays.

  • W.C., Ice Cube, And Mack-10 On ‘The Jamie Foxx Show’

    Season 1, Episode 17: “Westside”

The Jamie Foxx Show is one of the most underrated sitcoms and its slew of guest stars remains undefeated. During this episode, Jamie finds it hard to follow Junior and Helen’s hotel rule to not host wild parties while they’re out of town and Westside Connection—W.C., Ice Cube, and Mack-10—comes to stay.

  • Bobby Brown In ‘Two Can Play That Game’

When most people reference Two Can Play That Game, they usually highlight Gabrielle Union’s villain origin story within Vivica A. Fox and Morris Chestnut’s love story. However, a lot don’t acknowledge the hilarious moments at the hands of Bobby Brown. The Don’t Be Cruel crooner played the boyfriend of Shanté’s (Fox) best friend, Karen (Wendy Raquel Robinson), who went from a scrub to a stud and became a playboy after realizing how attractive he was after she upgraded him. Dermot O’Leary’s bestselling children’s book series is leaping from page to stage in a new family production featuring puppetry and original songs.

Little Angel Theatre, Mercury Theatre Colchester and Mayflower Southampton have unveiled the world premiere stage adaptation of “Toto the Ninja Cat and the Great Snake Escape,” based on the popular children’s book by broadcaster Dermot O’Leary and illustrated by Nick East, published by Hachette Children’s Group.

The “Toto the Ninja Cat” series, based on O’Leary’s real-life pets, has sold more than half a million copies globally and been translated into 17 languages.

The story follows Toto, an almost completely blind cat with incredible ninja skills, who must use her courage and cunning to stop a deadly King Cobra that has escaped onto the streets of London, alongside her cheeky brother Silver.

The stage rights were acquired from Hachette Children’s Group in a deal negotiated between Sarah Lennon Galavan, head of licensing for Hachette Children’s Group, and Samantha Lane, artistic director of Little Angel Theatre, and Natasha Rickman, artistic director of Mercury Theatre.

The production will be adapted and directed by Lane, with music and lyrics by Barb Jungr. The duo previously collaborated on “The Smartest Giant in Town,” which received an Olivier nomination for Best Family Show in 2023.

Set, costume and puppet design will be by Little Angel associate director Oliver Hyman, who recently won a special Fringe Theatre Award for exceptional services to puppetry. Lighting design is by Sherry Coenen.

O’Leary, who currently co-presents ITV’s “This Morning” on Fridays, is best known for hosting “The X Factor” from 2007 to 2018. He also presents BBC Radio 2’s Saturday morning breakfast show.

“I’m over the moon to see my book brought to life through puppetry,” said O’Leary. “Toto is currently fast asleep, blissfully unaware of all the attention, but speaking on her behalf, she’ll be thrilled to bits that her adventures are about to come to life, in theatres to audiences all around the country.”

Lane and Jungr added: “It’s such a joyful, funny, and heartwarming story, and we can’t wait to bring Toto’s world, full of courage, friendship, and adventure, to life on stage. Led by a stellar creative team, the production promises brilliant songs, imaginative puppetry, and an abundance of surprises for audiences of all ages.”

The musical will open at Mercury Theatre Colchester April 2-18, 2026, followed by runs at Little Angel Theatre London (May 16-July 19) and Mayflower Studios (July 23-26). Additional tour stops include Bristol Redgrave (July 28-30), Birmingham Town Hall (Aug. 15-16), Weymouth Pavilion (Aug. 18-19), Guildford Yvonne Arnaud (Aug. 20-23) and Capital Theatres (Oct. 23-25), with further dates to be announced.
