New ‘Star Trek’ Movie in the Works From ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Duo

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the duo behind “Dungeons & Dragons” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” are enlisting in Starfleet. They’ve been hired to write, produce and direct a new “Star Trek” film that will seek to revitalize the franchise after it has languished for nearly a decade without a big screen adventure.

However, as Variety previously reported, the new film will not be a continuation of the J.J. Abrams-led reboot of the series and won’t feature Chris Pine or any of the actors from those movies (Pine starred in Goldstein and Daley’s “D&D” film). In fact, while plot details are being kept under wraps, this project is not connected to any previous or current television series, movie, or prior movie development projects. So you’re out of luck Jean-Luc Picard and Kathryn Janeway!

Since “Star Trek Beyond” opened in 2016, the road to mounting a new film in the franchise has been bumpier than a Klingon’s forehead. Chris Hemsworth almost returned as the (seemingly deceased) father of Capt. Kirk from 2009’s “Star Trek.” Quentin Tarantino almost directed a “Star Trek” movie set in a world of 1930s gangsters. Noah Hawley and Matt Shakman each got so close to directing a “Star Trek” movie that sets were being built, but neither project came to fruition.

In 2024, Variety reported that Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) was writing a draft for the “final chapter” “Trek” movie starring the cast led by Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldaña. And Toby Haynes (“Andor”) had been tapped to direct a “Star Trek” origin story written by Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”). But now both projects appear to be stranded in deep space with life support failing.

Getting a new “Star Trek” out of dry-dock has been a priority for Paramount since David Ellison’s Skydance took control of the company in August, because the series is one of the most enduring properties in the studio’s library. Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are known to Ellison and company, having recently written, directed, and produced the Skydance film “Mayday” starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, which they produced through their GoldDay banner. It will premiere on Apple TV+.

Daley and Goldstein previously helmed New Line’s comedy “Game Night,” and wrote and directed the studio’s “Vacation” reboot. The duo’s additional writing credits include “Horrible Bosses” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.”

Goldstein and Daley are represented by CAA, Fourth Wall Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.

A Biblically Dull Horror Movie About Jesus

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

A hopelessly inert religious horror film based on the apocryphal “Infancy Gospel of Thomas” (as opposed to the four canonical gospels of The New Testament, which are obviously all composed of nothing but hard facts), Lotfy Nathan’s “The Carpenter’s Son” begins with a premise so crystalline that even a skeptical heathen like me can appreciate its truth: It would have been absolutely terrifying if the son of God suddenly rocked up on this mortal coil. Beautiful, too, at times, but also terrifying. For everyone.

For his Mother (FKA Twigs, her power as an artist wasted in a movie that only wants her for her pout), whose steadfast faith in her infant provenance only makes her more afraid of the baby-burning pagans on the highway outside of town. For his Father (Nicolas Cage), a haunted and high-strung craftsman who can’t shake the suspicion that his son might have been sent from below rather than above. For the Boy himself (Noah Jupe, his character unnamed for copyright reasons), whose ability to heal lepers, bring the dead back to life, and — more nefariously — kill people just by looking at them adds an extra dimension to the anxieties of puberty. And for everyone else in the sad Galilean village where Jesus the Boy and his family have most recently taken refuge from the devil in 15 A.D., uneducated idol-worshippers who can’t understand why their local marketplace has become ground zero in the fight over humanity’s future.

Michael Bauman

The only people for whom this situation isn’t terrifying are us, the audience, who feel nothing but the purgatorial torpor of sitting through a movie that’s too afraid of its own concept to do anything truly provocative with it.

Raised in the Coptic Orthodox Christian church, Nathan (“12 O’Clock Boys,” “Harka”) came to the project with an inchoate fascination with the marginalia of that theology, and found that Jesus’ formative years would be ripe material for the ultimate crisis of faith. As the Infancy Gospel of Thomas would have it, the Boy was never more relatable than he was as a horny adolescent who’s starting to feel like his father is the most oppressive force on earth; as a sullen and moppy teenager who’s coming into his full power, and naturally finds himself more compelled by the evil forces that encourage him to use it than he is by his parents who tell him to hide it away.

Will the Boy find the resolve to sacrifice himself for our sins? Or will he be seduced by the Stranger (a scarred and scowling Isla Johnston as the personification of all darkness, her tremulous conviction making it easy to understand why Baz Luhrmann cast her in the lead role of his Joan of Arc epic), who whispers into his ear, “You will die for miserable people, and you will not be thanked”? Spoiler alert: Christianity has since become a very popular religion.

But if this story of how generic-brand Jesus came to see himself on the cross is understandably more about the journey than the destination, “The Carpenter’s Son” finds itself at an immediate loss as to how it could meaningfully texture that path. The essence of Nathan’s approach is to approximate how difficult it must have been for ancient peoples to maintain their faith in a world of darkness — a world desperate for even the faintest traces of divine light. It’s an approach that leads the filmmaker to steep this story in an impenetrable air of miserablism; joyless, without shape, and no more textured than the sound of a dull ringing in your ears.

Paranoid before it turns petulant, Cage’s performance eventually gives way to the high rising terminal that has always been his fallback plan in the absence of a real character to play (“My faith has been SHAAAATTTEREEDD because of you!” is the closest he gets to a memorable line delivery here), but his somnambulant opening voiceover sets the tone for the brooding sluggishness of the film to come. “He bears a power he cannot understand,” the Carpenter says of his son as they trudge through the desert in search of a new place to hide. “A power I cannot contain. Calamity follows us.” That calamity is, of course, “Se-TAHN,” who creeps around these characters in the shadows, Simon Beaufils’ rugged but drearily underlit 35mm cinematography offering “the Stranger” plenty of places to hide.

For the most part, however, the Stranger waltzes around in plain sight, adopting the form of an androgynous teen — their scarred face betraying the wounds of Heaven’s rejection — who baits the Boy into indulging his darkest impulses. So what if he sneaks a peek at the beautiful, non-verbal neighbor girl as she showers outside of her house? Who cares if he takes an unholy measure of revenge against the mean-spirited Torah teacher who’s spiteful towards his strange wisdom? These people will crucify him the first chance they get. Might as well spike their food with scorpion venom.

Nathan devotes the brunt of his attention to the torment of a world that has every reason to doubt the mercy of a divine creator. Though he displays a half-developed knack for visiting certain frights upon his victims (the scene in which Lillith is pulled out of her bed with a silent scream is particularly effective), his ambivalence toward embracing the language of a horror film holds “The Carpenter’s Son” back from channeling the holy terror needed to combat its listless approach to characterization. Too heightened to take at face value and too rote to add a lastingly visceral element to this most famous of myths, the scares grow tedious faster than a bad church sermon. (There are only so many times you can watch someone gag on a computer-generated serpent.)

There’s a hint of Luciferean menace to some of the movie’s hellacious imagery (e.g., a hole in the ground revealed to be composed of 1,000 writhing bodies), but nothing Nathan cooks up is even half as unnerving as the reality of the Boy’s zealots. It makes sense: If you heal a leper with your touch, he’s probably gonna show up at your house in the middle of the night hoping for another miracle. But how the desperation of “the unclean” lands on the Boy is hard to parse, as Nathan’s script mistakes droning ambiance for psychological insight, and Jupe’s performance — all roiling teen angst topped with a mop of perfectly angelic curls — is powerless to turn whatever into fine.

Split between probing the Boy’s inner turmoil and testing the Carpenter’s resolve, the movie never finds a compelling way to play one against the other. While there’s a consciously universal quality to all of the father-son bickering that pushes these characters towards the extremes of their beliefs, neither arc is fleshed out enough to carve anything worth keeping from their spiritual battle of wills (a battle that pales in comparison to the tortured stalemate of Johnston’s performance, which rages with agonized hate). At its best, “The Carpenter’s Son” feels like a stolid cross between “Last Days in the Desert” and “Brightburn” — flat, empty, and threatened by the unformed potential of a god’s raw power.

More often, however, the film is as lost and miserable as any of the people in it. Nathan inevitably stumbles upon an answer that tries to make sense of their anguish, but he doesn’t seem to have any real faith in its meaning. He’s as incapable of articulating the Boy’s power as the Carpenter is at containing it, and so “The Carpenter’s Son” never escapes the sacred context of its subject, nor the sense of calamity that seems to follow him wherever he goes.

Grade: C-

Magnolia will release “The Carpenter’s Son” in theaters on Friday, November 14.

Release Date & More of Margot Robbie Movie – Hollywood Life

This isn’t your English class’ reading assignment. Wuthering Heights will reach theaters in 2026, starring Hollywood icon, actress and producer Margot Robbie, and Jacob Elordi. The famous 19th-century romance story written by Emily Brontë has been adapted into a 2026 movie, and the trailer lays everything out on the table. From lust to vengeance, viewers see the two love interests in a different light on the big screen.

Below, Hollywood Life has all the details about the upcoming Wuthering Heights movie.

What Is Wuthering Heights About?

The story follows a “foundling” — an abandoned child — named Heathcliff in 19th-century England, who is taken in by the Earnshaw family at Wuthering Heights, where he grows close to Catherine Earnshaw. However, Catherine is set to marry Edgar Linton, Heathcliff’s polar opposite.

Catherine and Heathcliff’s love story is central to the first volume, while his revenge against Edgar and the consequences of her actions to marry the latter unravel.

How Does the Wuthering Heights 2026 Movie Compare to the Book?

Almost any film adaptation tends to stray from the book’s core due to production runtimes and projected interest among viewers, and previous Wuthering Heights films didn’t include all the details from the original novel. Perhaps the most famous adaptation was 1992’s Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, which marked Ralph Fiennes‘ film debut.

The cast and crew of the 2026 movie have yet to explain their version of the classic, but the trailer revealed a modern twist. Charli XCX contributed original music to the film, as heard in the teaser that was released in September 2025.

The 2026 adaptation also appears to highlight more sensual moments between Catherine and Heathcliff, with some viewers comparing it to Bridgerton and even Fifty Shades of Grey.

Who Is in the Wuthering Heights Cast?

Margot is playing Catherine Earnshaw, and Jacob is portraying Heathcliff. They’re accompanied by fellow cast members Charlotte Mellington (young Catherine), Owen Cooper (young Heathcliff), Hong Chau (Nelly Dean), Vy Nguyen (Young Nelly), Shazad Latif (Edgar Linton) and Alison Oliver (Isabella Linton).

Wuthering Heights 2026 Release Date

Wuthering Heights will be released on February 13, 2026, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Ice Spice Drops New Single ‘Big Guy’ for ‘The SpongeBob Movie’ Sequel

The rapper will also voice a character in the animated film, set for release on Dec. 17

Ice Spice shared a new single, “Big Guy,” written and recorded for upcoming animated sequel The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants. A video for the spit-fire track will follow later today.

“Off the wake up, I’m feeling my best/ Big things ’bout to happen today,” the rapper intones on the upbeat single. “I bend over, I do my lil’ stretch/ I woke up feeling a brand new way/ Ain’t a jellyfish, but I’m the catch.”

“Being part of the SpongeBob soundtrack is such a full circle moment for me,” Ice Spice said in a statement. “It’s crazy to see my music in a movie that’s been part of so many people’s childhoods, including mine.”

Along with creating an original track for the film, Ice Spice voices to one of the characters in the movie, marking her first-ever voice cameo.

“Big Guy” follows on the heels of Ice Spice’s recent singles, “Pretty Privilege” and “Baddie Baddie.” The latter song marked Ice Spice’s first solo release since she dropped Y2K!: I’m Just A Girl (Deluxe) last December. It was produced by the rapper’s longtime collaborator RiotUSA and samples M.I.A.’s 2012 hit “Bad Girls.” She later dropped an Evil Twins-directed music video for the track.

Trending Stories

Since releasing Y2K!: I’m Just A Girl (Deluxe), Ice Spice collaborated with several artists. Earlier this year, she teamed up with Latto on “Gyatt,” which marked the first collaboration between the two rappers and effectively squashed rumors of the pair’s feud. She also made her film debut in Spike Lee’s most recent film, Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington and A$AP Rocky.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants hits theaters on Dec. 17. The film’s official synopsis notes, “Desperate to be a big guy, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following The Flying Dutchman – a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate – on a seafaring comedy-adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no Sponge has gone before.”

Lone Releases New Single “Sickly, Sweetly Summer Movie”

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Matt Cutler returned last month with “Ascension.png,” his first new song as Lone in nearly two years. The British electronic producer is keeping up that momentum today with another new one called “Sickly, Sweetly Summer Movie,” which, respectfully, is an odd title to give a song you’re releasing in mid-November.

“Sickly, Sweetly Summer Movie”‘s enjoyability isn’t too dependent on warm weather, though, because it isn’t really concerned with the earth realm at all. In a message to his Bandcamp customers, Lone describes the song as “a warped lullaby that descends into a nightmare” evoking some “real fever dream vibes.” There are a lot of celestial synths at play, interrupted only by some nondescript vocals — “me, way past my bedtime,” Lone adds — before its final moments get ever-so-subtly darker. Listen below.

A thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried sounds like a dream, and it has come true! The A-list actresses will lead Lionsgate’s movie The Housemaid. The Euphoria star will play the role of Millie, and the Dropout alum will play the character Nina.

Hollywood Life has rounded up everything you need to know about Amanda and Sydney’s new movie, The Housemaid.

What Is ‘The Housemaid’ About?

The Housemaid follows a struggling young woman named Millie, who gets a fresh start by working as a housemaid for wealthy couple Nina and Andrew. Per the film’s logline, “Millie soon learns the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.” The movie is based on the bestselling book of the same name.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman released a statement to Deadline about the project, which read, “Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina – they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away. We’re thrilled to team them with [director] Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”

“A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start,” Adam added. “My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”

‘The Housemaid’ Movie Cast

Sydney and Amanda are playing Millie Calloway and Nina Winchester, respectively, and they’re joined by Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, Michele Morrone as Enzo, Elizabeth Perkins as Evelyn Winchester, Indiana Elle as Cecelia Winchester, Mark Grossman as Scott Crawford, Hannah Cruz as Lexi, Megan Ferguson as Jilianne and Ellen Tamaki as Patrice.

Adele to make acting debut in new Tom Ford movie with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, Nicholas Hoult and more

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Adele is set to make an acting debut in a new film from fashion designer Tom Ford.

The project will mark the third film from Ford, following on from 2009’s adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s novel A Single Man, and the 2016 crime thriller Nocturnal Animals, which starred Amy Adams.

According to reports from Deadline, the upcoming movie will be an adaptation of the 1982 Anne Rice novel, Cry to Heaven. It follows an unlikely duo – a castrated maestro and a Venetian noble – who work together in the hopes of leaving their mark on the opera world.

The outlet reports that Adele is set to make her acting debut in the film, and she will star alongside huge names like Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Thandiwe Newton, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and 15-year-old Owen Cooper. The latter had his breakthrough earlier this year in Netflix’s drama series Adolescence, and went on to become the youngest male Emmy winner.

Adele is currently on hiatus from music after completing a huge residency in Las Vegas and playing a handful of sold-out shows in Munich last year. She has hinted at a shift to acting before, previously suggesting that she was going to take part in the 2018 film The Death and Life of John F Donovan.

Starring Game Of Thrones actor Kit Harington, the drama was written and directed by Xavier Dolan, who had worked with the singer before on the music video for her hit single, ‘Hello’.

“I’m sure I’ll get some flak for this, but I actually would like to act after working with Xavier… I would be in a film for him, definitely,” she said at the time (via The Guardian). She would later have her music feature in the soundtrack, but did not take on an acting role.

Tom Ford’s Cry To Heaven is reportedly in pre-production in London and Rome, with shooting set to begin in the new year. The movie is expected to arrive in cinemas later in 2026.

While the ‘Rolling In The Deep’ singer has not lined up any live performances since completing her residency shows, she did get fans talking back in February when she posted a video of her singing along to Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean’s performance at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary concert.

ADELE JUST POSTED ON HER STORY 😭 pic.twitter.com/q4SRbzRRTV

— Josh (@adelesjosh) February 15, 2025

Before then, she left Rachel Chinouriri speechless after sending a bouquet of flowers in congratulations of her BRIT Award nominations, and also “scared off” potential buyers of her former £6million mansion by claiming it was “haunted”.

More recently, Adele had one of her musical records broken by Taylor Swift, following the release of the latter’s ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’.

For the past decade, the London singer has held the record for largest opening week for an album, with her ‘25’ album debuting with 3.378million copies sold. In October, it was reported that ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ sold 3.5million album units in the US alone during its opening week.

“Waahoo!!” Universal Pictures + Illumination have revealed the first official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the animated sequel to the first epic The Super Mario Bros. Movie from 2023. Ready to join Mario & Luigi on another adventure? This next one lands in theaters April 2026 around the world next spring. Looks even wilder and more ambitious than the first advenutre! This follow-up sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a continuation of this story with all these characters. But it sounds like they’re mixing things up just like the original video games. The first NES game was called Super Mario Bros. (1986) with two sequels – later on in 2007 Nintendo released a game called Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features the same co-directors from the first film back again. The voice actors include Chris Pratt as Mario again, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. This trailer also introduces Bowser Jr, who looks a bit like Wario, coming for his papa. It should be a fun time! Dive in.

Here’s the first full official trailer for Illumination’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, from YouTube:

To the Movies) and Michael Jelenic (a producer on Teen Titans Go!, ThunderCats Roar and other animated series) both of the first Super Mario Bros Movie. The screenplay is again written by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Minions: The Rise of Gru). Based on the video game series from Nintendo, originally created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Gunpei Yokoi in 1983 as an arcade game. Produced by Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto.
