How Sandra Douglass Morgan Brought HBCU Classic To Allegiant Stadium

by jummy84 September 30, 2025

Next month, Grambling State University and Jackson State University will bring the spirit of Historically Black Universities (HBCUs) to Allegiant Stadium for the inaugural Las Vegas HBCU Classic at the venue. The initiative, set to empower the legacies of HBCUs, is spearheaded by Sandra Douglass Morgan, the President of the Las Vegas Raiders.

As the first Black and Asian woman to serve as an NFL team president, Morgan is excited to continue the Raiders’ history of breaking the mold and setting new precedents.

Historically, in 1968, then owner Al Davis drafted Tennessee State quarterback Eldridge Dickey, the first Black quarterback selected in the first round by an NFL team. He also was the first NFL owner in the modern era to hire a black head coach with the appointment of Art Shell in 1989. Additionally, Davis was first NFL owner to hire a Latino head coach, Tom Flores in 1979, and to hire a female chief executive, Amy Trask in 1997. He also refused to have the Raiders play in any city where Black and white players had to stay in separate hotels.

“I mentioned it to our team owner, Mark Davis, [and] said, ‘Hey, there’s a potential for the HBCU Classic. But it would be in the middle of a football season, so we would have to make sure we were at an away game or something.’ And he didn’t even let me finish and said, ‘Get it done. Absolutely.’ I didn’t even have a chance to run through numbers, tickets, anything. He just said, ‘Get it done,’” explained the Las Vegas native during an insightful video chat with VIBE.

“I knew he had a history and the team has had a history and his father’s had a history with Eddie Robinson and Grambling. But for us it was just kind of a no-brainer to want to host this to kind of highlight not just Grambling, but HBCUs in general.”

She continued, “Having this history here and being able to use a world-class stadium that we’re very lucky to play in every week, like Allegiant Stadium, we know this game is about more than football. It’s about honoring the tradition of HBCUs, creating opportunities for visibility, reinforcing our commitment to non-traditional. I think people who have served in different roles at every level of the game. Whether it be a player, a coach, in business operations, in marketing, in finance, that is what I think this game… It represents so much more than a football game. It truly represents Black excellence at every level in the organization.”

While this year is the first HBCU classic at Allegiant, it is hopefully not the last.

“We truly hope that Las Vegas will take advantage of this opportunity and our city and our residents. And even those visiting from afar will take this opportunity to truly understand and learn more about HBCUs, celebrate their tradition, their legacy, and see their excellence first and foremost, right in front of their eyes,” remarked Douglass Morgan.

She later added, “We definitely hope that this is a game that [will] continue, and a movement and a weekend that can continue to grow. I know that there are other HBCU Classics and games around the country. But having it done this way for the first time at Allegiant Stadium, we hope it’ll be incredibly accessible. People love to come to Las Vegas and we hope that they support this weekend. And [we] definitely hope with the turnout over October 25th, that it will be something that can continue to happen and grow in the future.”

Ahead of the main event, there will be a pep rally, and separate alumni mixer providing ticketholders the opporutnity to network with one another, celebrate culture. Preceding the game will be a traditional tailgate experience and after the Sunday after the 5th quarter, a gospel brunch is scheduled, highlighting talented performers from across HBCUs.

Ofiicially, the Las Vegas HBCU classic takes over Sin City from Oct. 24-26. While Douglass Morgan did not attend an HBCU herself, her organic excitement can be attributed to her passion for the Black community and recognizing the importance in supporting the legacies of the historic institutions on a national scale. She is also a member Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., which was founded at Howard University in 1908.

“I just can’t believe it’s around the corner,” she exclaimed. “We just really cannot wait to host two incredible institutions for the first time in Allegiant Stadium, Grambling State and Jackson State. Just such iconic institutions in and of itself and what they’ve been able to do for Black culture, the community, and just higher education in general. It’s just going to be an incredible event.”

Tickets for the inaugural Las Vegas HBCU Classic at Allegiant Stadium and additional events are available on the official website.

John Cleese and Piers Morgan clash over Jimmy Kimmel cancellation: “You flaming old hypocrite”

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

John Cleese and Piers Morgan have clashed on social media over the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the late night talk show had been pulled from the ABC Network, which is owned by Disney, over Kimmel’s comments following the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Right-wing activist Kirk was shot in the neck and killed at Utah Valley University campus on September 10, and, following the incident, Kimmel said that all signs pointed to Kirk’s shooter being a Trump supporter.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterise this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said in his Monday night monologue.

The subsequent fallout saw the show taken off-air indefinitely, a move that sparked a strong response from either side of the political spectrum.

Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA, this caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers. Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?

— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) September 18, 2025

Morgan reacted to the news by posting on X on Tuesday (September 16): “Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA, this caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers. Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?”

US politician Joe Walsh replied to the post, arguing that Morgan had “missed the point”, prompting Monty Python and Fawlty Towers legend Cleese to write: “This from Piers Morgan. Who has made a fortune working for Rupert Murdoch.”

— John Cleese (@JohnCleese) September 18, 2025

Morgan responded to Cleese by posting: “You took Rupert’s money too, you flaming old hypocrite. I’m just proud of it.”

Hostilities continued on Wednesday, with Cleese writing: “I see Piers Morgan says he’s proud to have worked with Rupert Murdoch, the man who had done more to contaminate Britain’s journalism than anyone else. Tells us all we need to know about Piers, whose only talent is associating himself with people much better known than himself.”

Morgan replied with three laughing emojis, writing: “a) Rupert’s much nicer than you.. even your fellow Pythons loathe you. b) I’m way more famous than you, which is why I have nearly twice as many followers.”

It is now believed that Kimmel’s business and legal representatives are in discussions with Disney and ABC executives in the hope of reaching a compromise that would allow for the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

While the move to cancel the show has been celebrated by President Trump, with whom the host has had a long-running feud, many in the entertainment industry have spoken out against the suspension. Almost all of Hollywood’s prominent creative guilds have condemned the decision, while fellow late-night legends Stephen Colbert and David Letterman have also spoken out, voicing concerns over free speech.

Comedian and podcaster Marc Maron also criticised the suspension, saying on Instagram: “This is government censorship. This is the Trump administration coming after people who speak out against him.”

Limp Bizkit Drop New Song ‘Making Love to Morgan Wallen’: Listen

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s been four years since Limp Bizkit last released new music, and the rap-rock behemoths have returned with a song guaranteed to garner attention for its title alone: “Making Love to Morgan Wallen.”

The track itself has nothing to do with the country star — or even really making love. In fact, it opens with a moment of vulnerability from frontman Fred Durst, who says “Damn, I miss you, Chester/Sending love from a bass compressor,” in a nod to late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington.

The song continues as you would expect a Limp Bizkit song to continue: Simmering rap verses giving way to explosive hard rock choruses, with Durst dropping bars about the band’s old foe, Napster, and another about getting “kicked out of the Trump Resort.” The line that ostensibly gave the song its eye-catching title doesn’t come until the outro, when Durst says, “I make this motherfucker diamond-plated/Making love to Morgan Wallen in an elevator.”

Questions, of course, abound, chief among them: Is the narrator of this song making love to Morgan Wallen himself in an elevator, or making love to someone else while Morgan Wallen’s music plays in an elevator? Limp Bizkit, so far, have withheld any answers.

We’ve also reached out to Wallen’s rep for comment, because we couldn’t not.

Trending Stories

It’s unclear if “Making Love to Morgan Wallen” marks the start of a new album cycle for Limp Bizkit, as it was released via EA Games and appears tied to their upcoming release, Battlefield 6. The game’s recent trailer also featured a new remix of Limp Bizkit’s 1999 hit “Break Stuff.”

Limp Bizkit dropped their most recent album, Still Sucks, in 2021, and that album was notably the group’s first in 10 years. Since Still Sucks, the group has been quiet in terms of sharing new music, but they have been involved in a major lawsuit with Universal Music Group over unpaid royalties.

Piers Morgan ‘Uncensored’ YouTube Show Heading To Channel 5

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

In what has been described as the “worlds-first collaboration between a YouTube current affairs show and a legacy broadcaster,” Piers Morgan’s Uncensored show has found a fresh linear home on Channel 5 (now 5).

Piers Morgan Uncensored will be shown as a 90-minute highlights show on the Paramount UK network each week, 5 has just revealed, with the first airing next Friday at 11 p.m. GMT (3 p.m. PT).

Uncensored features Morgan’s take on the week’s news along with high-profile interviews with the likes of Donald Trump, Cristiano Ronaldo and the ‘real-life Martha’ from Baby Reindeer. The show was previously the flagship for Rupert Murdoch’s now-defunct linear network TalkTV, but Morgan took it YouTube-only last year, claiming that he could get far more viewers on that platform. He says that it has picked up more than one billion views in the past three years. Today’s surprise move marks a return to linear for the ex-CNN host who also used to present a morning show on ITV.

Traditional TV gatekeepers leveraging YouTube was one of the big topics at last month’s Edinburgh TV Festival. However, Morgan’s move certainly marks the first time a show has left linear to YouTube, only to return to a different linear platform.

Morgan said: “I’m really excited our show will be crashing onto British TV screens in a game-changing partnership with 5, bringing viewers the most explosive debates,  jaw-dropping interviews, and headline-grabbing moments every single week.”

5 commissioner Federico Ruiz added: “Being thrilled to have Piers Morgan on 5 doesn’t scratch the surface. Uncensored will be an excellent fit: our viewers love straight talk, big opinions, and unapologetic personalities—and Piers delivers all three and then some. A linear, terrestrial broadcaster partnering with a current affairs YouTube channel is the sort of exciting cross-cultural handshake that marks where the industry is heading. The fuse is lit. We’re braced for impact … Piers is coming to 5.”

With rumors around its future in the Paramount-Skydance era swirling, 5 has had a good week, having struck a new deal for NFL rights last week. Commissioned by Ruiz, Commissioning Editor 5 and Paramount +, Piers Morgan Uncensored is a  Wake Up Production. Executive editor is Alex Campbell.

Paul McCartney Doc Man on the Run: Morgan Neville Interview

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Listening to documentarian Morgan Neville and actor Paul Mescal dive down the Paul McCartney rabbit hole at the Telluride brunch was one of my festival highlights. Both are McCartney experts at this point, as Mescal is returning to rehearsals in London to play Paul in the first of Sam Mendes’ four Beatles movies, and Neville has spent the last three years prepping “Man on the Run,” his post-Beatles portrait of McCartney as he created his solo albums and assembled the band Wings. When I was growing up in ’70s New York, I loved McCartney albums Cherry and Ram, but was never a Wings fan. Now I see how many of his catchy songs have seeped into the culture: I’m adding a bunch to my playlists.

'Wuthering Heights'

“Man on the Run” reveals an artist who must reinvent himself without the Beatles and with his great ally and love, Linda McCartney. But he never fell out of love with John Lennon.

This is a Q&A with Neville by documentary filmmaker David Wilson that took place after the film‘s second screening on September 1. (Full disclosure: My daughter works for Neville’s Tremolo Productions.)

This interview has been edited for clarity and brevity.

David Wilson: You’ve worked primarily in music films, although every time you make a film about music you’re coming at it from a different place. What role did music play in your life growing up?

Morgan Neville: A lot. We had a jukebox in my house. Lot of Beatles 45s. My dad was a music obsessive. He saw the Beatles in ’64 in Indianapolis. I started playing music. I formed my first band when I was 12. My wife and I played in a band together. I just love music. And I love the stories of music, too. And I have made a lot of music films, but to me, they’re all exploring some different thing I’m trying to find out about.

That is a through-line in your films. With all these different subjects, there’s a big idea you’re grappling with. Is that something you think about going in? Or it comes out as you make it?

It’s both for this one. When I first started thinking about it, I started reading that first interview Paul gave, which was the Q&A where he revealed that the Beatles were no more. And you see the woman handing that Q&A out to the press. And that last question: “What are you going to do next?” And he said, “My plan, my only plan, is to grow up.” And I thought, “That’s the question I want to start with. What does that mean when you’ve been a Beatle since you were 17, you’ve been a quarter of this entity that’s gone to outer space and back. And how do you be a person in the wake of that?”

I’ve made a lot of biographical films. The films are always a form of therapy for me, and certainly for the subject. And with Paul, we could talk about that, trying to get him into a certain headspace. But the questions Paul was asking at that time were questions I was always wondering about: “How do you wrestle with your own legacy? How do you stay grounded in show business? How do you deal with being a parent and a father?” All these different questions that I grapple with all the time. So all that was resonating. So even though it’s Paul McCartney, who’s a genius to me, it was this guy who’s just an artist trying to find his way and trying to listen to his gut as much as he can. So “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” which is the flip side of “Mull of Kintyre,” they’re both crazy ideas. One turns out and one doesn’t, but it’s the same impulse, and I totally respect that fearlessness.

McCartney also talks about a quest for “personal peace.”

Yeah, and that quote at the end where Stella [McCartney] says, looking back on it, these were the happiest years of our lives? And I just sent my last child off to college 10 days ago. I get emotional even thinking about it. I don’t think anybody’s ever understood what Linda meant to Paul in all ways. And that’s what my wife means to me: having somebody who can be your wingman in every imaginable way, who has your back, is the greatest thing. That’s what you need to survive.

Had you met Paul before this project?

Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, John Lennon

I met him once for a shoot on another documentary years ago. And then I met him again when we talked about the film, and he was, “Okay, this sounds great.” The first interview, we did in London at his office. He had a sound man in the Bates Studio in the basement. He said, “My guy will set up some mics.” So I show up, and there are two mics in this tiny love seat in his office. I’m sitting close. Okay, you have to forget it’s Paul McCartney and just go for it. And Paul’s great at helping you forget he’s Paul McCartney, because he’s been Paul McCartney for a very long time. For somebody like him, who’s been public for so long, who’s talked so much, to not do the jukebox of greatest hits, of things he says about albums or songs, and trying to really break that, was great.

I did many audio interviews, but I wanted to have conversations with him. So we started talking about ideas. We talked about painting, we talked about all different kinds of things, because I wanted to get him to be thinking and speaking in the present. That helped. He recognized in the conversations he would get carried away. We ended up having seven sessions of interviews over more than a year.

The Beatles are famously difficult interviews, right? Was there a moment with him, as you were in those sessions, where you thought, “Oh, this is something new. I’m getting a side of Paul that wasn’t there.”

I like to think so. When he would get excited about things, we were doing one interview at his house, and he’d run over to the piano and start playing, show me stuff. And then he’d go on about getting high with Fela Kuti. It was helpful to get him in a certain headspace. He hadn’t talked about Linda in any deep way in decades. I just showed the film two weeks ago. He had a little family screening with his family and all the grandchildren, and invited my wife and my son. All the grandkids are sitting in front of me. Stella’s son said, “I’ve never heard my grandmother’s voice before,” and that punched me. And then I heard another grandson say, “Grandpa went to jail?”

Was there a moment where you thought you would go all the way up to Linda’s death?

I always felt like that decade and the bookends of McCartney, one and two: leaving the Beatles and John’s passing, and running away from the Beatles and what he had done for that decade. And I definitely thought about Linda’s death and we played with it, but it just felt extraneous in a way that Linda did live on for another 17 years past this time. And when I showed Paul the film, he said, “I’m so glad that you left Linda at the end of the film like that.”

It’s something I’m piecing together from talking to Paul again just a couple weeks ago, in the beginning of the film where he said, “I thought myself as the bastard, when people blame me for all this.” He internalized it, and that period of ‘Let It Be,’ and then suing the band was so painful. And the “Get Back” project actually opened up something in him, saying it wasn’t all bad. Everybody said everything was horrible, but actually it was much more nuanced. There was love, there was tension. And that process of self-forgiveness was the reason this film happened: if that wasn’t that bad, maybe I should think about this other period that I’ve also pushed out of my head in a lot of ways. And that’s amazing that still 50 years later, that’s still going on.

The parallel love story here, obviously, is him and John. Do you think that “Get Back” experience opened up his ability to talk about him and John?

In watching ‘Get Back,’ which I devoured as soon as it came out, you see how much real love that he still has, to the point where John is in his life every day. And I’m not exaggerating. I have no doubt he thinks about John every day, if not many times a day. So it’s not something that’s distant to him. It’s something that he holds onto.

When you’re digging through an archive and trying to find something usable, and then this clip rises up to the surface, what were those clips for you?

God, there’s so many. Paul has an amazing archive. He married a photographer, so that was convenient, all of Linda’s negatives of that entire decade, which is just incredible. There are so many things in this film that have never been seen. And there’s so many tiny things from the way people talked about Paul in the press at the time. I love that little clip of the reporter going back to the Cavern Club to interview the young punk girl about the Beatles. The best thing is the home movies. Who documents themselves that much? Now, we maybe do with phones, but you see Paul filming with a 16 camera. And Linda’s taking pictures of Paul taking film of her.

There are so many great shots in this film of the actual construction of songs, where you’re in the studio, and you’re seeing them work through something. Was that something you specifically went looking for? How much did you want to have that behind the scenes?

I geek out on that stuff. And hearing the studio chatter. You can hear him orchestrating this stuff in his head in real time, which is what makes him Paul McCartney. And we have fragments of so many different songs in here. I loved the Beatles, but Wings were the band that were putting out albums when I was a kid, and that’s what I was buying. And I loved Wings. There’s so much interesting, good work through that decade that people don’t think about that much. He put out 10 records in 10 years. One of the happiest things was after I showed my son the film two weeks ago, I saw that he quietly added a whole bunch of Wings songs to his playlist on Spotify.

One of the joys was every three minutes there was hit after hit song that has been a part of the fabric of our world. Even if we didn’t identify with them the same way that we did with The Beatles.

We put that tiny snippet of “Wonderful Christmastime” in there, because in the midst of all that other stuff, that was a tiny single he threw out at the end of the year in 1979 which was a footnote, but a song that for better or worse we hear every year. It’s both the contextualizing and rediscovering of a lot of the songs we know, a deep dive, going through some of these records. And Ram is one of my favorite albums. It’s amazing how reviled that album was, again, you see the savage Rolling Stone review by Jon Landau, who went on to manage Bruce Springsteen. And now Ram is one of the top 500 Albums of All Time, according to Rolling Stone. So it’s that long game: Let’s not pay attention to what people want this week, this year. Let’s just make music that works for us.

How can people tell their friends to go see this?

Amazon/MGM bought the film and it’s not going to come out till February. Six months from now, hopefully you will hear all about it. We’re going to do a theatrical release, and then it will eventually stream. It’s coming.

Morgan Wallen & ‘I’m The Problem’ Will Not Be Submitted for Grammys

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

As Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem sits at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the 11th non-consecutive week, Billboard has learned that his team will not submit the album, any of the 37 songs on the voluminous set, or Wallen for consideration for the 68th Grammy Awards, to be held Feb. 1, 2026.

See latest videos, charts and news

Hits Daily Double broke the news earlier Tuesday (Aug. 19) that the album would not be submitted, but Billboard understands that the action goes further and includes not putting Wallen forward in any category, such as best country solo performance, or any of the seven songs that he co-wrote in any song categories in any genre or general field.

However, Wallen and his camp are not stopping the other songwriters from submitting their works from the album, which has already spawned four No. 1s on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart and three chart-toppers on the Hot Country Songs chart. It has also generated one No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100: Wallen’s duet with Tate McRae, “What I Want.”

Wallen, whose 2021 Big Loud/Republic album Dangerous: The Double Album is Billboard‘s No. 1 album of the first 25 years of the 21st century, is removing himself from consideration from an awards body whose voters have almost totally ignored his musical contributions.

The only nominations that the country superstar has received in his nearly 10-year career were for his work on Post Malone’s F1 Trillion album. Their chart-topping duet, “I Had Some Help,” received nods for best country duo/group performance and best country song for the awards presented this past February. Wallen has never received any nominations for any works from his solo albums.

As of this week, Wallen has logged 40 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — a total matched or exceeded by only eight artists in the chart’s nearly 70-year history. All eight of those artists have won multiple Grammys.

Additionally, Wallen is one of only 19 artists to log 30 or more weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Wallen and The Monkees are the only artists with 30 or more weeks at No. 1 who have not won a Grammy.

First-round voting for the Grammy Awards runs Oct. 3-15 with nominations due to be announced Nov. 7.

Wallen’s action is extraordinarily rare, but not unprecedented among superstars. Both The Weeknd and Drake previously decided not to submit in the Grammy process. Their actions also followed years of feeling under-recognized.

The Weeknd decided to boycott the ceremony following his controversial shut-out at the 2021 ceremony. The R&B superstar was thought to be a strong contender for album of the year for his fourth LP After Hours, which spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as well as for record and song of the year for his smash hit “Blinding Lights,” which became Billboard ‘s biggest Hot 100 song of all time. But when the 2021 Grammy Award nominations were revealed, The Weeknd’s name was nowhere to be found.

The Weeknd initially expressed his frustration toward the Recording Academy by tweeting, “The Grammys remain corrupt.” In his second Twitter missive, he wrote that he went from planning a Grammys performance to being “not invited.” The Weeknd later stated in a Billboard cover story that his snub in the top categories felt like “a sucker punch.”

Like The Weeknd, Wallen may find himself nominated despite his decision not to submit, for example, if McRae’s team submits their duet. The Weeknd was up for three awards at the 2022 ceremony thanks to his contributions to recordings by Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Doja Cat.

Drake blasted the Grammys following The Weeknd’s surprising shut-out at the 2021 Grammys. “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones that come after,” he wrote on Instagram. “This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”

Leading up to the 2022 Grammy Awards, Drake was initially announced as a nominee for best rap performance (for “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring Future and Young Thug) and best rap album (for Certified Lover Boy), but asked to have his name withdrawn from contention for both awards on Dec. 6, 2021. The Recording Academy honored his request and officially removed his nominations for both awards.

Since then, Drake has received eight nominations – all for collaborations with other artists.

Wallen’s representative declined to comment. Representatives from Big Loud, Republic and the Recording Academy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
