Veteran actress Shanthi Priya remembered her first meeting with the filmmaker and how unexpectedly he became involved with the project. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, she said, “First day when he came on set, he was seeing the monitor and we talked, I thanked him for giving me this opportunity. That was the only chat we had. I never interacted with Anurag Kashyap sir but only after the first schedule I come to know that he is showing interest and will come on board.”

Lead actress Anjali Sivaraman also expressed her excitement about having Anurag Kashyap support the film. She shared, “It was a surreal experience, he is a powerhouse in the film industry, people who are highly respected and to see value in our movie, it felt like we were doing something right. With AK sir, he is someone who I have admired and wanted to work with for so many years. For me it was like a dream come true. It was a great feeling that he was so enthugastic and excited about the film.”

With powerful names backing it and heartfelt performances, Bad Girl is a film that promises an emotional and meaningful journey. It is written and directed by Varsha Bharath.

‘After The Hunt’ New York Film Festival Opening “Top 3” Moment

After the Hunt star Julia Roberts has won an Oscar and opened movies that have made billions at the box office.

Yet Friday night’s premiere of the film on opening night of the New York Film Festival, she said, was a top-shelf highlight of her life and career.

“I moved to New York when I was 17 years old, and I’m 57, and this is Top 3 great achievements of my New York life,” she told the crowd at Alice Tully Hall.

Director Luca Guadagnino raved about the filmgoers at NYFF, calling them “the best audience at festivals in the world.” He recalled being an up-and-comer and meeting filmmakers “that I shall not name” who were telling the younger Guadagnino that “cinema is dead. And I was like, ‘Why?’” The New York fest, he continued, “celebrates cinema in a way that makes us know that cinema is actually alive.”

While the 60-second ovation that followed the screening fell short of the 6-minute standing O it received at its world premiere in Venice, the Tully reception was warm and almost all of the audience lingered for a 15-minute Q&A. NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim moderated the discussion with Guadagnino, Roberts, cast members Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri and Michael Stuhlbarg as well as screenwriter Nora Garrett. (Perhaps the most memorable moment was Garfield wincing at the memory of having to act in a sexually aggressive manner toward “National Treasure Julia Roberts” in one scene, which “thank God” was captured in a single take. “It was not, in any way shape or form, pleasant,” he dryly added.)

Amazon MGM Studios will release After the Hunt theatrically in select theaters on October 10, with a wide break the following week.

The 63rd edition of NYFF featured some new personalities delivering introductory remarks. Daniel H. Stern, Chair of the FLC Board of Directors, welcomed the audience. In recent years, the leadoff slot on opening night had been occupied by Lesli Klainberg, president of Lincoln Center, but she departed the organization after last year’s festival.

Stern brought Mariko Stern, who became CEO of Lincoln Center last fall, onstage. Addressing the film community, she thanked “all of you who enthrall us, all of you who lift us, all of you who teach us. It is such a true, deep joy to be here with you.”

In addition to “opening our eyes” to experience new films, she said she would “invite you to also open your ears” because Friday night’s screening was the first at Alice Tully Hall to use Dolby Atmos sound. The new system features 120 speakers spread all over the auditorium. (Guadagnino’s well-tuned ear for his soundtracks, plus a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross helped influence the installation.)

Next, Stern introduced Daniel Battsek, who succeeded Klainberg last April, following executive stints at Miramax Films, Film4 and Buena Vista International. In a field of 100 candidates for the job, from all over the world, “what impressed us was his genuine enthusiasm for our mission and for the future of Film at Lincoln Center, so I think there are great things to come under his leadership,” Stern said.

Battsek kept his portion brief and straightforward, joking that when he has sat in the audience for NYFF premieres as audience member, producer and executive, he has often thought, “When are these damn speeches going to be finished?” Turning more serious, he said this year’s slate of 107 features and shorts from 41 countries “will offer the chance to step into a new world and, I hope, to walk out of the theater inspired, challenged and moved.”

Along with setting the stage for the fest, which runs through October 13, Battsek offered a salute to Robert Redford, who died earlier this month, remembering him as a “fearless champion of independent voices.” Lim also noted that the fest’s printed program features a back page saluting filmmaker David Lynch, who died last January.

ABC Host Met The Moment

From Oscar-envelope SNAFUs, to L.A. wildfire evacuations, to real-time tweet attacks from Donald Trump and advocating for children’s healthcare, Jimmy Kimmel has more than met the moment many times over the years.

Still, with the ABC late-night host’s return tonight after a weeklong benching … Well, as longtime nemesis Trump said on a May 2016 visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!: “You never know what’s going to happen.”

With renewed threats against the Disney-owned network from Trump tonight after the show was taped, and affiliate owners Sinclair and Nexstar still not showing Live! even though ABC brought it back, an initially cosplaying Kimmel (Google it) more than met the moment Tuesday — like we kinda knew he would.

Greeted by a standing ovation and chants of “Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy!” from his studio audience, and revealing news of a German job offer, Kimmel started off with a nod to the great Jack Parr’s return to the air after a corporate run-in of his own in 1960. Warming up, he thanked his fellow late-night hosts past and present, his fans and fans of free speech like “even my old pal Ted Cruz.”

Yet, for all the anger and backlash around Kimmel’s suspension, the longtime host’s deft decision Tuesday was to speak to the conservative activist’s grieving family and the big picture in America right now.

Oh, and never forgetting Live! is late-night comedy, Kimmel turned the spotlight of free speech on Trump and his real-life FCC chair Brendon Carr by showing their own contradictory words and actions vis a vis free speech. In addition, Kimmel got some hilarious help and cultural Kevlar from Robert De Niro played the new sycophantic head of the FCC to seal the deal — cause that’s how the pros do it.

De Niro went straight into regulatory character to hit all the right notes.

“It’s just me Jimmy the chairman of the FCC, gently suggesting that you gently shut the f*ck up,” De Niro declared in the pre-taped bit. “But you can’t say that, that’s a violation of free speech,” Kimmel protested. “Oh, yeah, about that speech? It ain’t free no more,” De Niro replied, making it perfectly clear what was on the table.

Was it the greatest late-night show ever? No. Was it the greatest TV comeback ever? No. Was Kimmel weak for not coming out screaming that he was leaving ABC for the greener and likely less restrained pastures of Netflix or YouTube? Not at all. Kimmel has been doing late-night a long long time, decades in fact, and he knows that the way you win is playing the long long game — which is what we saw, as we have from him numerous times before.

If you were expecting an apology, this wasn’t the comeback where you were going to get it. Kimmel’s knee did not hit the studio floor Tuesday. Also, if you couldn’t watch because you lived in one of those markets ruled by Sinclair and Nexstar, Kimmel had some advice: streaming.

In a sweet extra to the whole thing, Trump’s outdated shivs of Kimmel having low ratings are going to look even more tin-eared in the next day or so when the numbers come in. Even with nearly 20% of ABC’s linear reach off limits thanks to Nexstar and Sinclair’s continued preemptions, they should be big.

One-liners, a hug from Guillermo and defending the First Amendment aside, there was, as one would expect after a week in which a late-night host going dark put where America is now in stark perspective, some tears Tuesday. In that vein, Kimmel’s voice broke a few times, especially when speaking of widow and now Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk for the undeniable grace and forgiveness she displayed this past weekend towards the man who killed her husband. Kimmel’s own grace under pressure was on display with his dedication to his craft and POV.

There was also a talk show to put on and the Live! team did just that tonight too.

Glen Powell was on to talk to Kimmel at the desk and charmingly promote his new September 30-debuting Hulu football series Chad Powers. Hot off pulling the plug on performances at the September 21 premiere of ABC News and Hulu’s Lilith Fair documentary in solidarity with Kimmel and his show, Sarah McLachlan provided the tunes tonight with something from her new album Broken Better. There was anticipation that the often outspoken songwriter would say something, as she did just a few days ago at they Lilith Fair: Building A Mystery screening, but, like the pro she is, McLachlan stuck to the task at hand and saw the bigger picture.

That ethos, after the necessary points were made, was at the heart of tonight’s Live! to everyone credit — and probably to ABC, Disney, Iger and Walden’s relief. That became all the more stark after Trump went online Tuesday after the slightly late-running show was taped and before it aired on the East Coast, huffing and puffing as usual.

“I think we’re going to test ABC out on this,” Trump wrote, handing Iger and Walden a redemption in so many ways. “Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers!”

“I think we’ll see you tomorrow, good night,” the clearly winning Kimmel said at the end of tonight’s show. To that, Ethan Hawke and Abbott Elementary’s Lisa Ann Walters are the scheduled Live! tomorrow, with Yungblud as the musical guest — cause that’s how the pros do it.

Kayla Nicole got her entire life this week as a guest on the Breezy Bowl stage, becoming Chris Brown‘s chosen paramour during his performance of crowd-favorite slow jam, “Take You Down.”

While Brown, 36, has invited plenty of women on-stage for the performance throughout the tour, Nicole’s appearance at his Los Angeles stop has become a hot topic, thanks in part to her past relationship with football star Travis Kelce, who is currently engaged to pop superstar Taylor Swift. Nicole was involved with Kelce from 2017 to 2022.

It also caught fans’ attention due to Nicole’s uninhibited stage presence, as she matched Brown’s sensual energy with her own.

Nicole, 33, has since taken to Instagram to share her experience with followers, posting a clip of her night out at Breezy Bowl alongside a lengthy caption.

“Well, that was fun,” she began, adding a coy emoji. “Had to really do it for the teenage me blasting CB in her bedroom. For the mini me who saw him at one of her first concerts. For the woman who sometimes feels like she has to be a monolith instead of multi-layered. I did it for the smart girls, the cool girls, the sexy girls, the fun girls— for all of us who are all of those things at once.

‘She couldn’t look at the camera and was crying’

He wrote, “My wife and I were married for almost 15 years. High school sweethearts. The world has been so unkind to her, and she is such a good person. She developed a drinking problem that was going to take me down and ruin both of our lives. Eventually, I had to file for divorce. She is doing much better now, but we haven’t spoken in a few months. The Zoom hearing was this morning, as we both live on opposite sides of the country now. It took 5 minutes. She looked beautiful, but she couldn’t look at the camera and was crying.”

‘It was the worst experience of my life’

Despite the necessity of the divorce, the man shared that he felt broken and alone, indicating the depth of emotional investment in the relationship. He wrote, “I cried the entire time, and then they just declared you divorced and ended the Zoom. We talked on the phone for an hour afterwards, and it felt like the old us. We said we loved each other, and I feel so f***ing broken and alone now. It needed to happen, but it was the worst experience of my life, and it changed me forever, whether for the better or worse, I don’t know yet.”

His post touches on the challenges of navigating a divorce, especially when both parties have a deep emotional connection. It’s a reminder that even when a divorce is necessary, it can still be a painful and transformative experience.

Many responded to his post, with one Redditor commenting: “Mine was also just weird. I waited for six other Zoom divorces and then my soon-to-be ex popped up on the screen. I hadn’t seen him in a while, and this was the finality of 25 years together. It was informal and cold.”
